Ph.D. in Health Policy and Administration

Designed for students who want to pursue research careers in both academic and non-academic settings, the Health Policy Ph.D., is a doctoral degree focused on the organization and financing of health services, as well as the statistical methods required to do state-of-the-art empirical work in health policy, health administration, and related disciplines.

Upon completing one year of the program, you’ll select from one of three specialized tracks: health economics, healthcare management and organizations, or population health and demography. You can also complete graduate minors in gerontology or demography, or earn your dual-title Ph.D. in Demography. Recent Health Policy Ph.D. graduates have obtained tenure-track faculty positions at major research universities, opted for private research organizations, found employment at government agencies, or are currently working for private-sector firms.

Regent University is a privately-owned and run Christian university that has a suburban campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was founded in 1977, originally as Christian Broadcasting Network University and is affiliated with the Interdenominational Evangelical company.

In 1990, the university changed its name to what it is now. On average, there are about 8,600 students enrolled. About 3,900 of these are postgrads.

Rivier University is a privately-owned and operated university with a suburban campus in Nashua, New Hampshire. It is affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Rivier University was established in 1933 by the congregation, the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary as an all-female college. Their first location was in Hudson but was then moved to Nashua where it is now. It was only in 1991 that the college started accepting male undergrads.

Today, there are over 2,200 students enrolled, of which are 850 postgrads.

Rosalind Franklin University, or RFU, is a privately-operated graduate school with a 97-acre urban campus in North Chicago, Illinois. It traces its origins to the establishment of the Chicago Hospital – College of Medicine, its predecessor.

The university was only christened its present name in 2004 after a series of name changes throughout the years. RFU has around 2,100 students enrolled.

RFU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Rush University is a privately-operated university with an 8-acre urban campus in Chicago, Illinois. Rush University traces its beginnings to 1837 when the Rush Medical College was chartered by Illinois. However, it was only in 1843 that the college was officially opened to 22 students in a 4-month course.

Today, after 175 years, there are now, on average, about 2,000 students enrolled.

Trident University International is a privately-owned and run online university operating out of Cypress, California. It was established in 1998 as the Touro University International, a member of the Touro College and University System. In 2007, the university was acquired by Summit Partners and split from the Touro College and University Systems to stand as an independent institution.

TUI offers superior online education because it is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges. On average, TUI has about 6,100 students enrolled.

Trident University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission.

The University of Alabama – Birmingham is a public research university run by the state of Alabama. UAB, as it is fondly called by its students, has a sprawling campus in the downtown Birmingham area that spans over 100 blocks. It was founded in 1969.

On average, it has about 22,000 students, about 8,000 of which are postgrads.

Their DSc program is offered through an interdisciplinary approach that includes the school of Health Professions, the School of Business, Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing.

The University of Bridgeport is a private university in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with an annual enrollment nearing 5,500. UB offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies to a student population consisting of learners from 80 countries and 46 states.

Founded in 1927, University of Bridgeport maintains a campus featuring Victorian homes built by historic business owners like P. T. Barnum.

The  University of Bridgeport  is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The University of Illinois at Chicago is a public research university run by the state of Illinois. UIC has a 244-acre urban campus in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1982, but its origins date about a hundred years back to several privately-run health science colleges.

UMMC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The University of North Carolina, or simply UNC, is a public university system that operates multiple campuses sprawled across 17 locations in the state of North Carolina. UNC also offers fully online programs for students. Its origins date back to 1789 with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

About the Master of Health Administration Program

The MHA is a professional degree, preparing future health care executives for management and leadership positions dedicated to improving health and health service delivery across all sectors. The Hopkins program focuses on the U.S. healthcare system and is well-suited for early careerists interested in managerial and leadership positions within hospitals and health systems, the health insurance industry, and consulting firms.

The accelerated two-year residential cohort program is designed specifically for the early careerist. The curriculum includes one year of full-time academic coursework followed by a full-time, 11-month compensated administrative residency with faculty preceptors designed to provide direct experience through hands-on learning. Administrative Residency Requirement

The full-time residential program has a required administrative residency component during the second year of the program. The program has partnerships with local and national organizations providing the full-time paid residency positions, many exclusive to JHU students. However, because many of the residency sites have rules prohibiting placement of non-U.S. citizens and non-permanent residents, the program cannot guarantee placement of international students and thus the ability to successfully complete the degree program requirements for graduation. Therefore, non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. permanent residents should carefully consider these possibilities before applying to or accepting an offer of admission from the full-time residential program.

Standardized Test Scores

Standardized test scores are  not required and not reviewed  for this program. If you have taken a standardized test such as the GRE, GMAT, or MCAT and want to submit your scores, please note that they will not be used as a metric during the application review.  Applications will be reviewed holistically based on all required application components.

The Master’s Tuition Scholarship is available to students in good academic standing in the two-year, full-time residential master’s program. The MTS is a 75% reduction in tuition for year two of an eight-term program. Students have the option of distributing the scholarship entirely in their second year of study or receive a 25% reduction in tuition their first year and 50% in their second year.

At YSPH you can really explore your horizons, and that allowed me to branch out and develop expertise in multiple areas. Being able to now combine that expertise and have it coalesce has already served me well, and I expect it will continue moving forward.

PhD in Health Policy and Management

The doctoral program in Health Policy and Management (HPM) is designed to develop scholars that are able to apply theoretical frameworks from the social sciences (such as economics, political science, organizational theory and management, sociology) to address pressing health policy and management research questions. The program is purposefully interdisciplinary and seeks to prepare students for research careers in academics as well as in public and private sector agencies and organizations. Students complete courses in a broad set of health policy and management areas, biostatistics and econometrics, and a selected area of depth (i.e., economic theory and application, political and policy analysis, and organizational theory and management). Students in the department of HPM take qualifying examinations in:

• health policy and management
• quantitative methods
• their chosen area of depth.

In addition, students work directly with a specific faculty member on an individualized readings course on which they will also take a qualifying examination. The program typically requires 4-5 years to complete, including 2 years of coursework followed by 2-3 years to complete and defend the doctoral dissertation. Individuals applying to this program usually have a master’s degree and/or relevant research experience, however the minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree.

This program requires General GRE test scores. Please send them to institution code 3987 (there is no department code).

What are the dha admission requirements.

Applicants must provide the following information for  admission  to Capella programs and specializations:

• A master’s degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or from an internationally recognized institution
•  Your official master’s transcripts, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• A valid, government-issued form of photo identification

GRE and GMAT are not required for admission.

If you completed your most recent academic coursework, degree, or credential at an institution outside the United States, regardless of your citizenship or where you currently live, you are considered an international applicant.

Biden Approves $5.8 Billion in Additional Student Debt Cancellation

The incremental relief brings the canceled total to $143.6 billion for nearly four million Americans.

The Biden administration continued its effort to extend student debt relief on Thursday, erasing an additional $5.8 billion in federal loans for nearly 78,000 borrowers, including teachers, firefighters and others who largely work in the public sector.

To date, the administration has canceled $143.6 billion in loans for nearly four million borrowers through various actions, fixes and federal relief programs. That’s the largest amount of student debt eliminated since the government began backing loans more than six decades ago, but it’s still far less than President Biden’s initial proposal, which would have canceled up to $400 billion in debt for 43 million borrowers but was blocked by the Supreme Court.

The latest debt erasures apply to government and nonprofit employees in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which can eliminate their balance after 120 payments. The P.S.L.F. program, which was plagued with administrative and other problems, has improved in recent years after the administration made a series of fixes .

“For too long, our nation’s teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters and other public servants faced logistical troubles and trap doors when they tried to access the debt relief they were entitled to under the law,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said.

Since those October 2021, more than 871,000 public service and nonprofit workers have received debt cancellation totaling $62.5 billion; before that, just 7,000 had reached forgiveness since the program was created more than 15 years ago.

Starting next week, borrowers who are set to receive the latest round of debt cancellation through the P.S.L.F. program will receive an email notification from Mr. Biden — a reminder of his administration’s work just eight months before the presidential election.

An additional 380,000 federal borrowers in the P.S.L.F program who are on track to have their loans forgiven in less than two years will receive emails from the president notifying them that they will be eligible for debt cancellation if they continue their public service work within that period.

Many of these borrowers have been helped by programs that tried to address past errors that may have failed to credit individuals for payments. As a result, many borrowers received account adjustments, or additional credits, pushing them closer to the repayment finish line.

Millions of borrowers with certain types of loans are still eligible for some of those adjustments, but they will need to apply to consolidate those loans by April 30 to qualify.

“There are a lot of people who need to consolidate by this deadline to benefit and potentially access life-changing student loan relief,” said Abby Shafroth, co-director of advocacy at the National Consumer Law Center. They include borrowers with privately held loans in the Federal Family and Education Loan , Perkins Loan and Health Education Assistance Loan programs, she added. (People with direct loans or loans held by the Education Department don’t need to do anything to have their payment counts adjusted; it happens automatically.)

Besides P.S.L.F., the administration has extended relief through a variety of other federal relief programs: About 935,500 borrowers were approved for $45.6 billion in debt cancellation through income-driven repayment plans, which base monthly payments on a borrower’s earnings and household size. After a set period of repayment, usually 20 years, any remaining debt is erased.

Another 1.3 million people had $22.5 billion wiped out through the federal borrower defense program, which provides relief to those defrauded by their schools.

The administration’s latest round of completed debt relief comes on the heels of its bungled rollout of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, which was supposed to simplify the process. Instead, technical and other problems have created delays, leaving colleges without student financial information that they need to make aid offers. Students have been left in limbo, unable to make decisions on where they’ll attend college.
