How to write a Pharmacy Assistant cover letter
A simple step-by-step guide to writing your very own winning cover letter.
Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message
When you send a cover letter with a job application, you should always write your message into the body of your email – or the body of the messaging system if you are sending via a job website.
Why do this?
Simply because you want to get your message seen as soon as the recruiter opens your application.
If you attach the cover letter as a separate item, this means the recipient will have to open it before they can read it – slowing down the process and potentially causing frustration along the way.
So, write your cover note in the body of your email/message to ensure you make an instant connection with the reader.
Start with a friendly greeting
To start building rapport with the recruiter or hiring manager right away, lead with a friendly greeting.
Try to strike a balance between professional and personable.
Go with something like…
- Hi [insert recruiter name]
- Hi [insert department/team name]
Stay away from old-fashioned greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very formal companies – they can come across as cold and robotic.
How to find the contact’s name?
Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try to uncover it via these methods.
- Check out the company website and look at their About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
- Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.
Identify the role you are applying for
Once you’ve opened up the cover letter with a warm greeting to start building a relationship, it is time to identify which role you want to apply for.
Recruiters are often managing multiple vacancies, so you need to ensure you apply to the correct one.
Be very specific and use a reference number if you can find one.
- I am interested in applying for the position of Pharmacy Assistant with your company.
- I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 406f57393)
- I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
- I saw your advert for a junior project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability
The sole objective of your cover letter is to motivate recruiters into to opening your CV. And you achieve this by quickly explaining your suitability to the roles you are applying for.
Take a look at the job descriptions you are applying to, and make note of the most important skills and qualifications being asked for.
Then, when crafting your cover letter, make your suitability the central focus.
Explain why you are the best qualified candidate, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.
This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider you for the job.
Keep it short and sharp
A good cover letter is short and sharp, getting to the point quickly with just enough information to grab the attention of recruiters.
Ideally your cover letter should be around 4-8 sentences long – anything longer will risk losing the attention of time-strapped recruiters and hiring managers .
Essentially you need to include just enough information to persuade the reader to open up your CV, where the in-depth details will sit.
Sign off professionally
To round of your cover letter, add a professional signature to the bottom, giving recruiters your vital contact information.
This not only gives various means of contacting you, it also looks really professional and shows that you know how to communicate in the workplace.
Include the following points;
- A friendly sign off – e.g. “Warm regards”
- Your full name
- Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
- Email address
- Profession title
- Professional social network – e.g. LinkedIn
Here is an example signature;
Warm regards,
Gerald Baker Senior Accountant 07887500404 [email protected] LinkedIn
Quick tip : To save yourself from having to write your signature every time you send a job application email, you can save it within your email drafts, or on a separate document that you could copy in.
What to include in your Pharmacy Assistant cover letter
Here’s what kind of content you should include in your Pharmacy Assistant cover letter…
The exact info will obviously depend on your industry and experience level, but these are the essentials.
- Your relevant experience – Where have you worked and what type of jobs have you held?
- Your qualifications – Let recruiters know about your highest level of qualification to show them you have the credentials for the job.

Here’s a pharmacy assistant cover letter example that hits the right notes:
Dear Dr. Philpott, Having worked in both local pharmacy and hospital pharmacy settings for the past four years, the role as pharmacy assistant with Hilltop would allow me to continue my pharmaceutical journey alongside my Pharmacist degree studies. Although the majority of the role is operational and non-prescribing activity, I relish the chance to work alongside pharmacists and see who I will be at the end of my course. This year will focus on dispensing, and I welcome the chance as advertised in the job description to assist in that respect where required. My retail skills are finely tuned – my last pharmacy served over 600 customers a day and I am at home stocking shelves, overseeing orders, taking over the cash register or advising customers. As a student, I am always clear about my knowledge base, but there are many occasions when I am able to help and take the pressure off my colleagues. I am currently hitting 84% on my university assignments, putting me in the top 10% of my class and I am always keen to study the operational side of a pharmacy as well as the scientific side of the academics that we cover at university. In my previous two roles I made operational improvements to my employers that equated to $600k in extra sales and 14% in saved management time. I am constantly seeking efficiencies in everything that I do. The cover letter header is the attractively designed space at the top that contains your name, occupation, address, phone number and email. You can also choose to add a link to a website that focuses on your professional qualifications, like a LinkedIn page.
It’s important to choose a design that looks great and creates an eye-pleasing visual impact. You have a fair amount of creative freedom in the header for imaginative use of typography, layout and color. Don’t make it loud or gimmicky, but strive for a presentation that’s both professional and good-looking.
Your best bet is to use a professional template where the design is already done for you. Take some time to look through the free cover letter templates at Resume.io, find one you like and make it your own.
The cover letter greeting should ideally be addressed by name to the individual responsible for hiring decisions: “Dear Ms. Schumacher,” “Dear Mr. Gonzales,” etc. If you don’t know the name of the appropriate person, try to find out. If that turns out to be impossible, then go with a more generic greeting like “Dear XYZ Corp. Hiring Team.”
Here’s an appropriate greeting from our pharmacy assistant cover letter sample:
Dear Dr. Philpott,
The cover letter introduction should make a strong opening statement that you’re the candidate the company is looking for. Lead with your most impressive qualifications – ideally your relevant work experience. Or if you’re new to the job market, you may choose to lead with your education, training and/or certifications.
Avoid bland language and cliches, and hit the ground running with compelling language about what makes you an excellent pharmacy assistant. Take a look at the introduction of our cover letter sample below.
Having worked in both local pharmacy and hospital pharmacy settings for the past four years, the role as pharmacy assistant with Hilltop would allow me to continue my pharmaceutical journey alongside my Pharmacist degree studies.
The middle paragraphs of your cover letter, the body, should present a make-or-break case for your candidacy. Elaborate on your work experience, mentioning not just where you’ve worked but what you achieved at past jobs and how you brought value to previous employers.
Be specific, using facts and figures where possible, like the number of prescriptions you filled per day or the revenue growth you helped achieve for the pharmacies where you worked. You can also mention your education and any certifications you hold in this section, if you haven’t already.
Try to say something about the company you’re writing to, explaining why you want to work there and not just anywhere. Let the employer know that you’re not just mass-mailing multiple copies of the same cover letter. See the body section from our cover letter example:
The cover letter conclusion needs to contain a call to action, suggesting that it’s the employer’s turn now to get back to you. Mention that you’re always available for an interview or even an informal phone call, and say you are looking forward to a reply. Be sure to strike the right tone here – you don’t want to sound arrogant or presumptuous, but you want to project confidence and eagerness to take the next steps. Check out the conclusion from our cover letter sample below.
I have over 20 references from past colleagues and customers and would be happy to either come in for an interview or alternatively do a trial day’s work. I hope that my solutions-focused attitude will prove popular with your pharmacy clientele.
The sign-off is the line that says “Sincerely,” “All my best” or something similar. Add a space below this line and type your full name, as in the cover letter example below.
Sincerely, Simona Goss

Writing a Cover Letter for a Pharmacy Assistant Job
You could have myriad opportunities to apply for a pharmacy assistant or pharmacy technician job. Based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projections, pharmacy technician jobs are expected to grow at a rate of just 4 percent through 2030. In a competitive job market, well-written cover letter for a pharmacist assistant job should compel the reader to review your resume and invite you to come in for an interview.
Cover Letter Introduction
The introduction to a cover letter for a pharmacist assistant should be succinct and should capture the reader's interest in two to three lines. Write a short paragraph that describes the position you're applying for, where you saw the job advertised and if your letter has attachments, such as a resume or copy of your state certification. If you were referred by an employee of the company, include the employee's name in your introduction so the reader knows that you have a personal referral.
Pharmacy Assistant Qualifications
More for you, ermegency room pharmacist job description, what does an intern pharmacist do, how to become a patient care technician, what is a residency for a pharmacist, how much do pharmacists make a month.
The second paragraph of your letter should focus on your functional skills, which consist of your technical expertise in providing assistance to pharmacists. If you're an experienced and certified pharmacy tech, describe the settings in which you've worked, such as a hospital or retail pharmacy. If you're applying for your first job as a pharmacy assistant or tech, describe your training and certification. List courses that you performed exceptionally well in and include the state where you earned your certification.

Identifying Job Responsibilities
Include your job knowledge related to privacy laws, communicating with patients and customers, and procedures for preparing medications, such as measuring processes and inventory control. Pharmacy assistants must have strong customer service skills; therefore, write a couple of sentences about your previous work in customer-facing roles. This is especially important when writing a cover letter for a pharmacy assistant with no experience in the field. Some employers will train the right candidate.
By studying the job announcement, you can see how your background fits. For example, you could say, "My background includes two years in providing assistance to full-time pharmacists at ABC Drugstore, a busy retail pharmacy that filled approximately 125 prescriptions each day. I handled customer follow-up and provided private counseling to patients about their medications. My performance in technical areas, such as packaging and labeling customer orders and preparing elements for pharmacists to fill prescriptions, has been rated 'superior' throughout my work history."
If you have expertise in handling controlled substances, monitoring inventory for hazard chemicals or medical equipment that patients use for self-medication, include that in your letter.
Core Competencies
Your core competencies are broad-based skills that enable you to perform your job tasks. They include communication and organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to use critical and analytical thinking skills in applying appropriate HIPAA and patient privacy laws. Because many hiring decisions are based on whether the candidate is a good fit for the organizational culture, do some research on the work environment.
Write a sentence about your professional values and that you want to work for an organization where your values are aligned with the employer's. You can even use such a statement if writing a cover letter for a pharmacy equipment with no experience. For example, if you're applying for a hospital pharmacy assistant role with one of the leading outpatient pharmacies in the area, incorporate that knowledge into your paragraph about values by saying that you want to become an employee of a world-class leader in health care support and a pharmacy that meets the needs of all its patients.
Summarizing Your Qualifications
Like your introduction, the concluding paragraph of your cover letter for a pharmacist assistant should be brief. Restate your interest in the pharmacy assistant or pharmacy tech job. Tell the reader that your skills are ideally suited to the job requirements and that you would like to meet inperson for an interview. Include your contact information in the body of your final paragraph and at the top of the page below your inside address.
There are a number of online resources that can help you write a cover letter. The employment website Indeed offers a number of examples. Don't copy word for word, but use the examples as your guide.

HR Assistant Cover Letter with No Experience Sample
Writing a cover letter when you have no experience can feel like an overwhelming task, especially for an HR Assistant position. I’ve helped friends and clients craft successful HR Assistant cover letters despite lacking direct experience, and today, I’ll share that approach with you. Drawing from my experience, I’ve created three unique templates to get you started, along with tips to make your cover letter stand out.
A strong cover letter with no experience isn’t about trying to hide what you don’t have; it’s about showcasing the transferable skills you do have and positioning them effectively for the role. In my experience, using the right structure, language, and persuasion can make all the difference.

Use relevant skills from other experiences, like communication and teamwork.
Emphasize your passion for HR and willingness to learn.
Personalize your cover letter for the specific job and company.

Keep the letter structured with clear paragraphs. |
Why Writing a Cover Letter Without Experience Works
When you don’t have direct experience in HR, it’s crucial to focus on transferable skills. I’ve written numerous cover letters for people who were in the same boat, and they successfully landed interviews by highlighting skills such as:
- Strong communication: Whether it’s from a retail job or a school project, you likely have some experience communicating effectively with others.
- Organizational skills: Any job or volunteer work that required you to organize tasks or manage time is a valuable asset in HR.
- Customer service experience: HR involves interacting with employees and solving problems—skills you may have developed in a customer-facing role.
Here’s what I found works best: instead of apologizing for lack of experience, lean into your potential. Employers in HR are looking for individuals who can work well with people, handle confidential information, and keep organized. If you can demonstrate those traits, you’re already ahead.
