Our Earth, Our Responsibility: A Speech on the Environment for Students

The environment is the fountain of life. It is made up of all life forms and their surroundings. It determines our growth and development and directs it. Human beings depend on the environment that surrounds us for water, shelter, food, and various other things. A balanced natural cycle exists between the environment and all living creatures. Humankind plays a crucial role in the degeneration of the natural environment that affects lives on this planet. Here we have provided both Long and Speech on Environment for reference.

Long and Short Environment Speech in English for Students and Children

Long speech on environment for students.

Good morning respected Principal of the school, teachers and my dear friends. I, (your name), of Class (your class)  is going to talk about our Environment. The environment plays a pivotal role in the existence and development of all living things on earth and, above all, in the daily life of mankind. For the quality of life that people lead, the condition of the environment is very significant. Environmental abuse has recently been a hot topic for discussion. The most important factors causing harmful environmental effects are various human activities and the high growth of population groups.

Let's explore some of the destructive activities of mankind: humans have always cut down trees to make way for agriculture, wood and use of plants. There are a few great forests left, namely the Amazon and the large forests of Indonesia. These are threatened by people who exploit them for logging or to clear them for palm oil production, which is highly valued worldwide. The international community should assist Brazil and Indonesia to save these precious resources from deforestation.

Humanity is filling the atmosphere with greenhouse gases such as CO 2 and other harmful industrial and fossil fuel emissions. Global warming is caused by hydrofluorocarbons and CFCs from refrigeration found in air conditioners. Plastic waste, which causes sea life like dolphins to die from stomach problems, pollutes the oceans.

What are the imminent dangers: According to the official NASA website, staggering CO 2 emissions are greater than the previous 400,000 years. The earth has heated up by 0.8 degrees since 1880, with other harmful emissions such as greenhouse gasses released by coal and natural gas and HFCs. Some scientists believe that by the end of the century, the earth may warm up by an incredible 6 degrees, according to Business Insider and NASA. Under the Paris Accord, nations have promised to keep global warming down to 1.5 per cent. The most recent warming on record has been in the last 20 years.

For life on Earth, what does this mean? To say the least, the outlook is gloomy unless attitudes change.

The best way to protect and save the environment is to make people aware of the fact that what the environment provides us with and the impact on us that will be caused by environmental degradation. The warming of the earth by human activities is a major cause for concern. If nothing is done, illness, hunger and flooding will be a major problem this century as the earth gets hotter, ice melts and water levels rise. Large chunks of agricultural land will be flooded.

We can actively participate in the campaign to save the Earth when all human beings learn the importance of the environment.  We can cease using plastic bags and reusable plastic straws on a personal level. When we go shopping, we can use fabric and other reusable bags. With palm oil, we can try to use fewer products that cause widespread deforestation. By eating less meat, we can reduce our carbon footprint; large-scale farming generates enormous amounts of CO 2 from cattle emissions and maintenance. I hope that if each of us has decided to make the environment good, then for the next generation, we will be able to pass on a green environment.

Short Speech on Environment for Children

Good Morning Everyone. I am (your name) representing here Class (your class) is going to deliver a short speech on the Environment. The environment is precious and has existed to enable humans to thrive in a remarkable state. For our basic needs, we are dependent upon the environment. There is a balanced natural cycle between the environment and human beings that exist.

Human beings have begun to overuse natural resources, and this natural balance has been broken. Human societies play a vital role in disrupting wildlife conditions and the well-being of the environment which enables people, sea life and mammals to thrive. The result is deforestation, pollution, extinction of different species and rising temperatures in the world in which we live. An ecological crisis has led to the indiscriminate exploitation of the environment. The interaction with the environment has shifted with the improvement of technology and medical care.

The ability of humanity to stop the problem is in its power. First of all, a change in attitudes will be required. In some countries, populations are growing at rapid rates, adding to the sad plight of the environment in general. Natural resources have depleted with population growth. This will cause an enormous problem for our generations to come. Some of the effects of this are soil erosion, underground water depletion, lack of fresh drinking water, atmospheric temperature rise, ice cap melting, sea-level rise, and the list goes on.

Effect on people: Human beings are inherently affected by the deterioration of the environment. The ozone layer depletion triggers skin cancer. Besides, excess pollution leads to multiple respiratory problems, such as asthma or lung cancer. It is also said to affect farming. I would like all of you to consider contributing to the protection of the environment and to make other people aware of this as well. You can help save our environment.

10 Lines for Short Environment Speech in English

For the existence of all living beings, a clean environment is essential.

Some laws to reduce environmental pollution should be encouraged by members of society.

Policies should be made by the government to minimize activities that affect the environment.

One of the excellent sources for spreading the importance and awareness of the environment is electronic media.

Some enforcement of regulations should be raised against the use of plastic. We can save our environment in such a situation.

One of the hazards to our environment is vehicle pollution.

A clean environment must be given priority by everybody. They also need to plant more trees and spread knowledge about the need for a clean and green environment.

One of the best ways to keep our environment clean is to use materials from recycled products.

We all know that the 'blue planet' is popularly known as Earth. Then it's the only one that sustains life, again.

We must avoid the use of certain resources, such as oil, natural gas, coal, etc. We can use renewable resources such as wind, biomass, and sunlight instead of using exhaustible resources.

The Symphony of Environmental Challenges:

Deforestation: The lungs of our planet, our forests, are being felled at an alarming rate. Each towering tree that falls whispers a tale of lost habitats, disrupted ecosystems, and precious biodiversity vanishing. This deforestation not only endangers animals but also disrupts the delicate balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide, leading to climate change.

Pollution: From the choking smog in our cities to the plastic-choked oceans, pollution paints a grim picture. Industrial waste, vehicle fumes, and our throwaway culture spew toxins into the air, water, and soil. This contamination poisons our food chain, endangers wildlife, and threatens the very air we breathe.

Climate Change: The Earth's temperature is rising, a fever fueled by our dependence on fossil fuels. Melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events are just the harbingers of a climate crisis that threatens to reshape our planet and our lives.

Remember, every action, however small, has the power to create a ripple effect. Together, we can turn the tide against environmental challenges and build a future where our children inherit a planet teeming with life, a symphony of harmony echoing across its vibrant landscapes.

Let us not be remembered as the generation that plundered and polluted. Let us be the generation that rose to the challenge, the generation that healed the Earth, the generation that wrote a new chapter of sustainability in the history of our planet. Let us be the generation that answered the call of our environment, not with indifference, but with action, not with despair, but with hope. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, and together, we can dream of a world where our Earth thrives, a world where every breath is a testament to our responsibility, a world where every generation sings a song of gratitude for the gift of life. Let the symphony of change begin, here, now, with you and me.

1-Minute Speech on Environmental Awareness

‘Good morning to everyone present her. Today, I stand before you to present my speech on environmental awareness. Environment refers to the world around us. If we have to keep ourselves safe, we must keep our environment safe. Therefore, environmental awareness is an important topic and we must take our decision in the right direction.

Overpopulation, degradation of the natural environment, pollution of rivers and water bodies, deforestation, etc. are major factors affecting our natural environment. Nature is paying the price of careless human activities.

From individuals to large organizations,  everyone must work hand in hand to enact and enforce policies that prioritize environmental sustainability. Using public transport can help reduce air pollution. Using the blue dustbin for dry waste and the green dustbin for wet waste can help in waste management. Avoiding single-use plastics, switching off appliances when not in use, using renewable energy like solar and wind energy, and planting more trees can greatly improve environmental health.’

‘So let’s take care of our mother nature and work on a greener, healthier, and sustainable environment because our environment’s health is our health.’

2-Minute Speech on Environmental Awareness

‘Good morning my teacher and my friends. Today, I stand before you to present my speech on environmental awareness. We only have one home; our environment. Yet, we are damaging it at an alarming rate. According to a report released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 881 animal species have gone extinct since 1900.’

‘Environment awareness is important because it helps us understand the current state of the environment, including the causes and consequences of environmental problems, is fundamental to environmental awareness.’

‘The environment is losing its natural strength. The average surface temperature is rising, trees are cut down, animal habitats are lost, and smoke is released into the air and water bodies. Our environment has gifted us with everything we needed; food, clothes, shelter, etc. Yet, today, we are the biggest threat to the natural environment. It is all because of our careless attitude towards Mother Nature.’

‘Taking care of our natural environment is our primary responsibility. Small steps like banning single-use plastics, switching off-lights appliances when not in use, closing water taps, etc. Also, adopting sustainable practices in daily life, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, using eco-friendly products, and supporting environmentally friendly initiatives can significantly improve environmental health.’

In 2019, the government of India banned single-use plastics like polyethylene bags and plastic bottles. Experts suggest that instead of using plastic bags, we can look for alternatives and eco-friendly options like paper bags or jute bags.

‘In the end, I would like to conclude by saying that adapting to environmentally friendly activities should be our top-most priority. By polluting the air that we breathe, water that we drink, and food that we eat, we are not only damaging the environment but our health too.’

Long and Short Speech on Environment in English

Environment speech 1.

Good Morning Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As today, the whole school has been assembled here for this beautiful occasion of World Environment Day that is celebrated on 5 th June every year; I would like to say a few words dedicated to the environment.

The environment is the surroundings made from five elements namely- Air, Water, Land, Sky, and Fire for us to flourish. It has been always said that only earth has the most favourable climatic conditions that help us to survive. We should be very grateful towards the earth that we have been provided with such a great environment that has everything in its nature which helps us to thrive. But day by day we are ruining it on the highest pitch that will eventually lead us towards our destruction.

We should understand the importance of the natural environment and try to deduce our non-eco-friendly activities and imperatively plant as many trees as we can and save water that is the two biggest issues.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Environment

Environment Speech 2

Hon’ble Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As this special assembly has been called for addressing the biggest issue these days regarding our environment, I would like to express my views on it. It has been recognized by the entire world that our environment is not as it was before. There are drastic changes that have been occurred since few years such as climatic changes, increment in natural disasters, etc all due to our changing lifestyle.

Our environment consists of 5 elements- Air, Water, Land, Fire and Sky and we have disturbed the process of entire ecosystem by cutting the vast amount of trees who contributes the most in balancing the environmental cycle, installment of large polluting industries, hunting/poaching of animals leading towards their endangerment, etc.

Out of this, the question arises is that what kind of future we want or what kind of future we are going to hand over to our next generations? Is this the kind of development we all have dreamt about? Walking with a mask on our faces, struggle in floods and earthquakes, destruction of animals who aren’t even aware of what’s happening around.

Now this is the high time where we need to recognize the importance of our natural environment and try every possible action towards saving it from saving water to planting trees.

Environment Speech 3

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. The topic of my speech is Environment. Environment is the surrounding in which we live. It is the source of life. Our whole life is dependent to the environment. It directs our life and determines our proper growth and development.

Good or bad quality of social life depends on the quality of our natural environment. The need of human beings for food, water, shelter and other things depends on the environment around us. There is a balanced natural cycle exists between environment and lives of human beings, plants and animals. Human society is playing vital role in degenerating the natural environment which in turn negatively affects the lives on this planet. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem.

All the actions have brought a big change in this planet which resulted in many environmental problems. Increasing demand of technologies and industries in the modern time impacts the nature. The increasing invention of new technologies has changed the interaction of people with environment which permits more population to grow.

The modern technologies have immense power which has altered the whole environment in an unimagined way. The indiscriminate use of environment is the root of ecological crisis. Such continuous increase in the technologies and human behaviour are correspondingly very serious. Such amazing technologies have become the reason of economic growth in 20 th century however it had dramatically affected the natural resources.

Some of the environmental problems are rapid growth in world population, deteriorating natural resources, diminishing forests and wetlands, erosion of soil and coral reefs, depleting underground water, regular shortage of fresh drinking water, vanishing plants, salinization in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East. Some other issues are loss of biodiversity, rapid extinction of some important animal species, collapse of fisheries, rising air and water pollution, rise in atmospheric temperature, thinning of ozone layer, spoiling rivers, seas and underground resources.

Even though science and technology have radically altered the terms of adaptation to the nature, we still need to adapt to the environment. Human society is embedded in an environment. We must not forget that the human being is first and foremost an animal, sharing living space with other animal species in an environment on which they are mutually dependent. It is our responsibility to save our environment and earth and make the possibility of healthy and happy life here.

Environment Speech 4

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech over Environment. To run the life in healthy happy way, we all need a healthy and natural environment. Continuously increasing human population adversely affects the forests. Human beings are cutting forests to a great extent for making their home to live securely however they do not think of the problems arises due to the lack of forests.

It completely disturbs the natural cycle between environment and life on the earth. Because of the over-population, the number of various chemical elements is increasing in the atmosphere which ultimately causes irregular rainfall and global warming. We cannot imagine the negative effects of global warming over the climate and lives of human beings and other living species.

According to the research it is found that the perennial snow mountains of the Tibet were totally covered by the thick snow in the past however those thick snows are getting very thin day by day over last few decades because of the global warming. Such condition is very dangerous situation and indication of end of life on earth which needs to be taken very seriously by all countries worldwide. It is very true that climate change goes very slow however slow continuous process is very dangerous.

Because of the regular changes in the environment physical structure of the human beings and other living species has been changed from generation to generation. Increasing human population needs more land for agricultural cultivation and living purpose which force them to cut more trees and forests so the deforestation has its own dangerous side effects.

Increasing level of industrialization has countless harmful effects on the atmosphere because of the poisonous chemical emissions and dangerous wastes drainage in the big water resources such as Yamuna, Ganga, and other rivers. The ever changing (negatively) environment is not the issue of only some countries or government; it is the issue of whole human fraternity because we all are the reason of this negatively declining environment so we all are responsible to save our natural environment for the healthy survival of life on the earth.

Protecting the atmosphere is the matter of high importance for all the present and future generations of mankind. The main purpose of my speech today over the environment is only to increase the public awareness among common people about the reasons of declining environment as well as need of healthy and natural environment for the life on earth. So, it is my humble request to all of you that please contribute to save your environment.

Environment Speech 5

Good morning to my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech on the Environment to increase awareness among public about the negatively changing environment. An environment is the natural surrounding which covers and protects us from the natural disasters.

However, our healthy and natural environment is getting worse day by day and taking the form of demon affecting everything from non-living to living beings. What we know is two types of environment called natural environment and built environment. The natural environment is one which exists naturally and the one for which man is responsible such as cities etc is called built environment. There are many natural and unnatural factors polluting the whole natural atmosphere.

Some of the natural factors like volcanoes, flood, etc are the reasons of declining environment. However, manmade reasons are more rampant caused due to the reckless and the caustic human nature are highly responsible for the environmental pollution. Self centred human activities are highly responsible for the destruction of the environment. Other environmental threats like forests degradation, global warming, pollution, etc are the reasons of environment degradation. Continuous increasing temperature of the earth surface in the atmosphere because of the many human made and natural means calls to the various natural calamities causing disturbance to a great extent to the healthy and common life of human and all other living beings.

Our natural environment has become hugely changed in the last few decades and has taken form of big and powerful demon affecting the lives of people every single moment. Nature has made everything to run in balance with the natural cycle however many factors causes environmental corrosion. The factors like population growth and economic advancement are considered as the major factors giving rise to many other secondary factors.

We must understand the importance of ecological balance and try our best to run it naturally in order to prevent the effects of environmental disasters and promote the existence of healthy environment. We should promote common public in our surroundings for the clean and green environment to prove the meaning of proverb like “We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment”.

Environment Speech 6

First of all I would like to say good morning to the Excellencies, respected teachers, and my dear friends. As we all know that we have gathered here to celebrate this auspicious occasion, I would like to speech over the environment in order to make you aware of our continuously declining environment so that we all together can be successful in saving our environment by taking some effective steps. As we know that we live on the planet of earth having different types of surroundings called environment within which we can eat healthy, breathe freshly, and live safely.

However, what happens to our lives if any means of natural or manmade causes of environment degradation takes place, we cannot imagine the extent of loss to the human and other living beings existence. The ecology balance and natural cycles has become disturbed which is very hard to bring back and give it a natural shape. However, there is a common saying that “prevention is better than cure”, so we never gets tired of trying our best to save the environment.

Physical environment on this planet provides all of us a favourable required condition and supports the existence and growth of various forms of life here. Natural or physical environment is provided by the nature however all forms of the living beings together constitute another environment called biological environment. Both of the environments are closely connected to each other and make a unique natural system for the life survival. If the biological environment gets disturbed, physical environment automatically gets disturbed and both hugely affect the human lives together.

Another environment which is completely depending on the human is socio-cultural environment made by the human beings. Whatever environment is, it must be healthy, safe and secure to continue the evergreen life on the earth in present and future.

We should realize our mistakes and concern about the environment in order to keep it clean, safe and secure for the healthy life. Many of the human activities like deforestation, industrialization, technological improvements and so many are leading our environment towards danger and keeping lives at risk by influencing the growth, development and survival of all organisms.

Various types of environmental pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc are disturbing the ecosystem and causing variety of health hazards to the human beings and animals. Environmental pollution is damaging the ecosystem and destroying the delicate balance of the natural ecosystem. So, now-a-days environmental pollution is the matter of great concern and consideration for which we all together follow some effective steps and carry on until problems gets solved completely.

SPEECH WRITING ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

Let’s break this speech writing guide on the environment into four different sections:

1. Tips to Remember Before You Write Your Speech

2. speech writing lessons on the environment: complete guide , 3. drawing inspiration from ‘great speeches on the environment’  , 4. a sample speech on the environment .

Hold on till the very end of this blog as we have a bonus tip to simplify this process, just for you.

1. Tips to Remember Before You Write your Speech

Crafting a movie requires the crew to plan everything with utmost precision and that’s exactly where the pre-production stage comes to play.

Likewise, before drafting a speech on the environment, you need to focus upon a few things to enhance the speech’s impact on your audience.

At the same time, these tips will help you to stand out in the crowd.

A) Understanding your True Purpose

know your true purpose as a speaker

You possibly cannot deliver a speech about the environment without feeling deeply about the issue.

Firstly, start by questioning yourself, ‘Why should I be concerned about  our environment ?’

Now, start looking for even the slightest changes in your lifestyle in terms of the environment.

These changes can be as evident as the scarcity of water and as ignored as the less appreciation of nature by humans.

This will provide you with the reasons as to how is the issue affecting you?

These reasons can be listed by you during the course of your speech to establish trust, credibility and relatability factor.

Get yourself aware of the urgency of the situation

Go on the internet, research the issue at hand and make yourself aware of the worst-case scenario, that is, ‘what would happen if human beings do not respond now?’

This way, you will connect with the issue emotionally and this will reflect in your voice as you deliver your speech.

You simply cannot expect your audience to feel deeply about the issue unless you yourself feel that emotional connect.

Because somewhere down the corner, we all are responsible for environmental degradation in our own ways.

This realization must first hit you before you convey this idea through your speech.

This emotional connect will reflect in the form of:

  • the content of your speech
  • vocal variety
  • body language

B) Brainstorming Session

mind mapping technique

A speech as informative as this needs to have right facts in just the right amount and at the right places.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches is that the right facts are not incorporated in the right way.

  • So, begin with researching the issue and note down the environmental facts.
  • Prepare a mind map to better organize your thoughts . Jot down the main points and make a rough skeleton of your speech.
  • Once you have done this, try thinking from an audiences’ perspective . Ask yourself, ‘If I were the audience, what would be my expectations from a speech about the environment?’ Note down those thoughts as well.

Try not to be generic while doing the brainstorming session, include the pointers other speakers have missed out on.

In order to stand unique as an orator speaking about the environment, one must learn from the mistakes made by other speakers.

Understand what exactly is your audience looking for and frame your speech accordingly.

We have written an article on How to add facts in a speech? Check it out to balance your speech about the environment with just the right facts.

C) Who is your audience?

audience analysis

A speech about the environment has a dynamic audience . Thus, it can be delivered at a school, college or even a workplace for that matter.

Understand the demographics of your audience, like age and level of education, to mold your speech accordingly.

For instance, if you are delivering a speech about the environment at school, you might want to include less jargon and break down the content in a much simpler way for the students to understand.

Similarly, if you are delivering an environmental speech at a workplace, you can incorporate jargon along with relatable lifestyle experiences to convey your ideas better.

In a nutshell, formulate the content of your speech according to the audience you are catering to.

D) Duration of the speech

Instead of beating around the bush, a good orator tries to make a long-lasting impact without taking too much time of the audience.

Thus, try to keep your speech short and precise without falling into the trap of possible digressions.

After listening to so many speeches on the environment, we all know our expectations from the next speech we listen about the environment.

Thus, most important of all, prioritize the information and interestingly present that information. This way, you give away the essential information while retaining the attention of your audience.

We have written an article on How to deliver a 1-minute speech: Tips, Examples, Topics & More . Have a look at it to make your speech memorable within a short time frame.

Once you’ve learned this, the next step is to have smooth transitions in your speech. This is done to avoid any sort of blabber and convey the ideas effectively.

To know more about smooth speech transitions, check out Effective Speech Transitions: How to Make Your Speech Flow .

A) Out-Of-The-World Title

A speech about the environment can create a certain monotony in the minds of the audience, even before you actually deliver it.

As an audience, we expect that monotony in the environmental speeches.

Thus, a boring speech title can bore your audience to sleep.

Many a times, we stumble upon a speech title we haven’t ever heard of and are naturally drawn to know more about the speech.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches in current times is a boring title. Titles like  Speech on Save Environment and Speech on Environmental Degradation  can seem pretty daunting to the audience and might disinterest them.

Instead, consider having a thought-provoking title that doesn’t give the speech idea away so that when the audience actually listens to your speech, they pay more attention and start connecting the dots.

This way, something unusual yet related to your speech can assist you to hold the attention of your audience.

Let’s look at a few interesting speech titles. All based on the environment!

Admit it, we’ve grown old reading that water is an essential pre-requisite for the crops to survive and grow.

But, what happens when a speech title tells you otherwise? You obviously get drawn to listen to the speech.

I’m sure after reading this speech title, you are now wondering, ‘which country is she talking about?’

So, the moment you come across a speech title like this, a sense of conflict has been created in your mind and you naturally want to know more about it.

B) Catchy Introduction

A catchy introduction begins with a strong opening line while bringing into light the main idea of the speech.

The attention span of the audience is at its peak at the beginning of a speech. So, now that you know this, make sure you capitalize it!

Instead of starting your speech with something as bland as a  Good Morning , attempt hitting new approaches to grip the attention of the audience throughout the speech.

The last thing a speech topic as common as the environment needs is a bland introduction.

Thus, working on a strong beginning is the most crucial element when it comes to speech writing about environment.

Here are a few interesting ways to jump start your speech:

Start with a story

We all love listening to stories! Be it fictional or real . It’s a personality trait which we all share in common.

You can start your speech on the environment with a story inspired from your own personal experience or you can create your own story.

But, remember even while creating a story from scratch, you need to sound realistic and establish relatability . So, it’s ideal to avoid any sort of exaggeration on your part.

Once you have decided on the story you wish to tell, remember to connect your story with the environment, in general.

To assist you in this process of crafting a story, we have written an article on 9 Storytelling Approaches for Your Next Speech . Check it out to know more!

In this TED Talk, the speaker begins by telling a story about camping by revisiting his childhood days. This gripped the attention of the audience all the way more.

Bringing the Element of Creativity

Use of adequate props and placards can assist you to add real value to the audiences’ experiences, particularly in a speech about the environment.

Think out-of-the-box and bring this element of creativity the next time you deliver a speech.

By bringing this visual element, you make your speech all the more memorable.

Let’s understand this better with the help of an example.

In this TED Talk about the environment, the orator decides to begin her speech by bringing a small jar. Have a look at how well she connects this prop with the essence of her speech.

C) Relatable Anecdotes

Well, what is the point of delivering a great speech if your audience can’t relate to it?

By stating relatable life experiences, you sound more realistic and believable . As a result, the audience starts respecting your thoughts.

For instance, while delivering a speech about environmental problems and solutions, start discussing how the environmental problems have affected you and your family and what solutions you are considering to deal with it.

Essentially, convey these anecdotes in the form of a story and make sure that these anecdotes are relatable.

D) Body of the speech

Here lies the main purpose of your speech!

It is at this point that you start supporting your ideas with relevant facts and evidence .

In this case, while delivering a speech about the environment, be aware of the real purpose of your speech.

If your speech about the environment is required to list down the solutions to save the environment, try leading the solutions with the micro-level steps which we all can practice in our day-to-day lives and then move onto the solutions at a community level.

Because the major flaw with most of the environmental speeches is that we focus a lot more upon the changes at a government level rather than bringing into light the changes at the individual and community level.

It all begins at home and then the awareness is spread at a community level.

Steer clear of stating the obvious while citing supporting shreds of evidence and think innovatively to come up with information that can actually add value to audiences’ experiences.

E) Drafting a Memorable Conclusion

A captivating conclusion keeps your speech alive in the minds of the audience.

First things first, avoid ending your speech with a bland ‘thank you’.

Instead, in the concluding statement, sum up the gist of your speech and provide the audience with a key takeaway.

To maximize the impact of your concluding remarks, end your speech with a poem or an intriguing question, and leave your audience awestruck by providing them with something to ponder upon.

Check this article to learn effective ways to end your speech with maximum impact.

F) Set the Right Mood

Setting the right tone of the speech is extremely crucial.

This way, you guide your audience to perceive your thoughts in just the intended manner.

You can set the right tone with the help of effective body language , facial expressions and voice modulation.

For instance, while delivering a speech about the environment which demands you to cite the solutions, a sense of hope must be reflected throughout the course of your speech. You can achieve this by sounding optimistic in your voice and having open body language.

In a similar fashion, a speech about the environmental problems would require you to sound empathetic in your voice.

4. A Sample Speech on the Environment

“Why should I be studying for a future that soon may be no more, when no one is doing anything to save that future?”, asked Greta Thunberg, and I’m sure we all are in search of an answer to this question, more so in these unprecedented times when the entire world is at a standstill. Environmental depletion, a term we take so lightly, has been increasing with each year passing by. This year (2020 as of writing), Earth Overshoot Day was observed on August 22, exhausting nature’s budget for the year in just seven months. Even as I speak and you listen to this speech, The residents of Goa are raising their voices against an infrastructure plan which is all set to cut through Mollem National Park and destroy the habitat of thousands of animals. Even as I speak, 10,000 clothing items are being sent to landfills every 5 minutes. All because of Fast Fashion! Even as I speak, more than 80 percent of the world population is living under light-polluted skies. All because of light pollution!  And, when we actually reflect upon all of these things, there’s no one to blame but us.  Yet, we choose to remain silent.  So, I ask you today,   Why are we silent? Why don’t we care about the planet we live on?  I believe that by choosing to remain silent over the environmental issues, we are doing a disgrace to the very act of humanity.  Ain’t we ought to save this environment while we still can?  I know that since time immemorial, we have grown up learning about sustainability. In the most literal sense, we PREACH sustainability. But when it comes to bringing that into practice, our values shy away.  All of a sudden, we start to run short of time. You know why? The reason is we don’t appreciate our environment, anymore. And, that’s the root cause that is holding us back in the pathway towards sustainability.  I still remember when I was 10 years old, my father and I had this really nice ritual of going to the park for evening walks. Back then, it just didn’t matter what headspace we’re in, the air of calmness that surrounded the park would just put us at ease. It was THAT therapeutic!   But, coming back to this so-called modern mechanized era, we’ve parted our ways with this ritual. Now, in these times, even the thought of going to a park sounds cliché to all of us!   We need to learn to appreciate, nurture, and love our environment in order to save it. Because it all begins at home! You and I CAN make the difference and now is the time to inculcate sustainable lifestyle habits. The first step here can be as simple as cutting down the waste we produce in the environment. Be it in terms of buying packaged fruits and vegetables from a farmers’ market or making the area you live in litter-free. Moving ahead, the next step might sound a bit difficult because let’s face it- We ALL love shopping! But, when it comes to leading a sustainable lifestyle, minimalism is the key. Start prioritizing every single time you shop for something. When you do this, you value things you own and don’t end up wasting so much.  Gladly, to our relief, the world isn’t that pessimistic. In this age of globalization, we now have people as ‘environmental influencers’ initiating a call for action. Let’s shower our love and support towards them by drawing inspiration from them.  Therefore, I now say,  Let’s pledge to align our values and actions.  Let’s pledge to spend more time in nature.  And most important of all, let’s pledge to save this planet while we are on this planet.

Speech on Climate Change for Students in English

August 10, 2021 by Sandeep

Speech on Climate Change: The earth’s temperature has slightly risen above the normal range due to climate change and global warming. It causes the greenhouse effect and affects biological and geological elements on earth. Heat distribution, erosion of surface vegetation, and disorientation of mountains are some of the adverse effects of climate change. The ecosystem patterns experience disturbance life forms of various species also experience drastic changes.

Climate Change Speech

Below we have provided Climate Change Speech in English, written in easy and simple words for classes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 school students.

Good morning to everyone. I am here to present a speech on climate change. The climate is the environment we live in, directly connected with the sun, earth, ocean, wind, rain, snow, forest, desert & everything we do. Say today’s climate here can be described by temperature, humidity & rainfall, etc. The biggest threat is this fast-changing climate which is getting even worse day by day.

One of the scariest realities is that we humans have contributed the greatest to climate change. Over the last several decades, the change is very significant & leading us towards a darker future. Global warming is a phenomenon that results in a gradual increase in temperature over some time. Earth’s atmosphere always worked as a greenhouse which captures the heat & energy required from the sun for supporting life on earth.

However, the increase in greenhouse gases due to several human activities has led to a situation that resulted in the warmest years in history since recorded. After 2010 there has been five warmest year. Another concerning problem is the increase in sea level on a global scale due to ocean temperature. Due to which the ice glaciers, ice caps are melting much faster than the natural pace.

According to scientists, the frequency of drought has increased tremendously due to the uneven rainfall in several areas, which is relatively less than the expected rainfall & the situation will worsen in the coming decade. Rainfall will no more be a seasonal activity; it will be very severe whenever it rains, leading to floods in several modern cities worldwide. The consequences of climate have been neglected for a long, but if we continue to do so, we will end up in a situation where survival on earth will be difficult.

Human activities like industrialization, population explosion, exploitation of natural resources, urbanization & many more activities have landed us in a situation like this. It has forced several animals & birds to change their habitat or incomplete loss of habitat, which has further aggravated the condition for species extinction.

Tackling climate change must be our primary goal & responsibility before we damage it more. Already many steps have been taken on a global scale, but we are still far away from achieving our goals. The best enemy is our ignorance & negligence of climate change. We all must be aware of all the activities which are adding to the cause & must try to avoid all such things. Because if we live as we are doing, we will land up in a disastrous condition. So be responsible & be aware.

Short Speech on Climate Change

“If we do not act together, we will surely perish” by Leonardo DiCaprio.

A very warm morning to everyone here. I think my opening statement has made it very clear about what I am going to speak up about today, a very important topic, i.e., Climate change. We are already at that point of time where we are already experiencing the warmest years, worst rainfall, drought & many more. According to the scientists, the worst is yet to arrive if we keep our activities as same without any constraints.

Global climate change is a concerning matter & a lot of submits as well discussion is already around. Is it that serious of a matter? Yes, it is more severe than even we can even think of. The average temperature has been in an increasing trend for the last few decades. The summers are getting more & warmer day by day. Winter will be colder. There will be no balance in the seasons we feel now, or maybe there will be no seasons.

Rainfalls will be very scattered & severe, with no water availability when required. The reliability in rainwater is also decreasing with the chances of an increase in acid rains. The melting of ice & glacier is increasing the sea level at a much faster rate than expected. Many more problems are surfacing day by day, which we even never thought of.

Human activities like industrialization, population growth, urbanization & many more are the leading causes that have aggravated the situation to that extend that if we do not control our activities now, the earth will no more be a place where survival of living beings is possible. Whenever anyone talks about climate, the first thing which comes to our mind is climatic change. Everyone is responsible for climate change; we all must watch & restrict the activities that have contributed to the cause.

English Summary

3 Minute Speech On Climate Change In English

Good morning one and all. Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends, it is my pleasure and privilege to stand before you today. I am honored to have this opportunity to speak to such a distinguished audience.Today on this occasion, I would like to talk about and bring your attention to the causes and impacts of climate change.

The earth’s climate is changing at a drastic rate and the far reaching impacts are catastrophic. The cause of this alarming change is human activity. Regardless of the fact whether we accept or deny, undoubtedly each one of us is somehow responsible for this miserable state of our planet.

However, all hope is not lost. Even now there is time to take the right actions and slow this adversity and even reverse the effects. If everyone unites, we can reduce our carbon footprints by using cycles or walking or even taking public transport instead of private vehicles.

The most important factors are awareness and action. I have attempted to make you aware , now it lies the collective responsibility of all of us to take appropriate actions and save our planet. Thank you.

Speech on Air Pollution

Good Morning Class Teacher and All My Dear Friends! Today, as you all know is Wednesday and the speech giving day and my speech topic is Air Pollution.

Since air pollution has become an alarming issue these days; air pollution is defined by W.H.O. (World Health Organization) as “the presence in air, of substances put there by acts of man in concentrations sufficient to interfere with the comfort, safety, or health of man or with the full use or enjoyment of his property. The presence of contaminants in the atmosphere is considered to be in sufficient quantities and duration, to cause them to be injurious to human health, animal and plant life and reduce welfare in general.”

There are two main causes of air pollution, i.e. Man-made Cause and Natural Causes.

Man-made Causes:

a) There are several factors affecting air pollution, such as we have chemical factories, refineries of petrol, industries of textile, paper and pulp, etc. Besides, the industries as small as that of the brick making as well as foundries also play a huge role in causing air pollution.

b) Several pesticides are spread on the fields. This spraying of pesticides increases the level of chemicals in our atmosphere and causes pollution in the atmosphere.

c) Increase in the number of vehicles on the road is yet another major cause of air pollution, particularly in the big cities. There are other major causes, such as old, worn out vehicles running on the road, long-minute traffic congestion, uneven roads and improper traffic management authority.

d) Those people who in slums or small towns do not have properly ventilated homes and when they use such methods of cooking as wood and coal in their household stoves – they further contribute in causing air pollution. And this happens in the underdeveloped nations. We shouldn’t have smoky indoor air for an obvious reason that it would affect the health of both small children and adults.

e) The power stations are mainly run on petroleum or coal so that they can generate power and heat which in turn emanates sulphur dioxide (SO2) along with smoke. As per the studies, the thermal power stations release nearly 2/3 rd of the total SO2 released in the atmosphere. These gases are really toxic for our atmosphere and causes air pollution.

f) As a matter of fact, mining activities is also one of the major factors causing air pollution because the underground activities such as these generate a lot of dust. During mining, dust gets released from stockpiles, blasting excavation, transportation of ore, crushing, etc. The situation is further aggravated when wind blows and it takes away the dirt from one place to the other.

Natural Causes:

Just like man-made causes, there are natural causes of air pollution too, such as dust storms, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, spores of fungus, flowers’ pollen grains, etc.

However, we can control air pollution through various means, such as Plantation, i.e. by planting more and more trees and secondly by using compressed natural gas (CNG) and unleaded petrol. We can also look for some alternate energy sources which are environment friendly or causes little harm.

With this I bring my speech to a close, thanks everyone for patiently listening to me!

Speech on Air Pollution 2

Hello Friends – Welcome to yet another speech giving assembly!

Hope you all are doing well! As we know that the topic which needs to be addressed today is Air Pollution and I want the participation of each one of you because everyone, including me is responsible for causing air pollution.

We do not live and breathe in a pure environment – the air is polluted, water is contaminated, food is polluted and what not! And unfortunately more than the natural factors, it’s the human agency which is primarily responsible for causing air pollution. The air that we breathe has become so toxic these days that half of the illnesses caused to us is primarily due to the polluted environment.

The human agencies responsible for causing air pollution can be divided into various categories, but those chiefly responsible are those caused by the automobiles and the industries.

Automobiles are a serious threat to our environment and in the last decade the pollution caused due to these vehicles has increased manifold in the Metropolitan cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. The exhausts that are emitted from the vehicles are particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and unburnt hydrocarbons, including a few carcinogenic organic compounds, such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons and benzene – which cause a serious impact on our health.

The government should encourage the use of public transport and there should be a separate lane for the bicycles to ply. People should be urged to walk a few kilometers rather than riding a personal vehicle. These small, small measures can cause a significant change in the quality of air.

But did you know that there are certain other conditions affecting the emission of gases from the vehicles and lead to more air pollution. These are lack of maintenance of these vehicles, when they are old and obsolete, due to cramped roads and also because of poor management system.

The pollution is increasing not only because of the increasing number of vehicles on the road, but also due to the reasons mentioned above. It is therefore required of us to ensure the maintenance and inspection of these vehicles from time to time in order to keep a check on the emission rate when the vehicle is out on the road. There are certain testing centers, such as AETCs, i.e. The Auto Emission Testing Centers that play a significant role in keeping a check on the emission rate of the in-use automobiles.

Industrial pollution is yet another major source of air pollution. Industrial pollution not only causes water pollution, but also deteriorates the quality of air. It is because of the huge expansion of the industries and machines replacing the manual labour that the quality of air has become even worse.

Immediate steps need to be taken to combat the situation of rising air pollution otherwise a time will come when we will not even be able to breathe and no life would be imaginable on this planet. So let’s save our Mother Earth and prevent the air from becoming further toxic.

I hope, through my speech, I could stir the sentiments of a lot of people and make them realize as to where we are going wrong.

This is all from my side, thank you!

Speech on Air Pollution 3

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen – It’s good to see you all for this national conference.

However, before we begin this conference, I would like to take a few minutes of yours and address a very important issue which is in fact a point of discussion today, i.e. Air Pollution. Air pollution is no longer a problem of our country, but has rather become a global phenomenon and we human beings are majorly responsible for this disaster.

Please let me be very honest and say that we are the most selfish race on this earth as we only think of ourselves and work towards making our lives comfortable. We have constructed these big factories to manufacture products and also vehicles in order to travel faster from one place to the other. Technology is really a boon for us and they have made our lives comfortable; however the cost that we have paid in return is really massive.

Ladies and Gentlemen, air is the most abundant natural resource available to us and we are not able to assess its worth so much so that we pollute this very air which we breathe. This is the reason why air pollution has become a huge concern these days. Government and environmentalists are trying their best to bring down the level of air pollution, but this is not an overnight change as it’ll require both time and efforts on their part to bring about a change in society and make people adopt a pristine lifestyle which our ancestors lived.

Other than emission from the vehicles, there are several other man-made activities that heavily contribute towards air pollution and global warming, such as Deforestation, Mining, Agriculture, power plant which we run on fossil fuel, etc. In fact, smoking also significantly contributes towards causing air pollution. Don’t be surprised? A smoker is responsible for adding nearly 40 carcinogens to the environment using only one smoke. Even though it’s a micro level pollutant yet its harmful effects are no way less than the macro level pollutants.

It’s an alarming time now as air pollution has become one of the chief reasons behind the declining health status of the people. Right from causing respiratory problems such as COPD, i.e. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder to bronchitis, cancer, heart ailments, skin cancer, allergy, asthma, etc pollution has caused a great havoc in the lives of the people.

Cough, cold and pneumonia are some of the diseases which almost every other man suffers with, your next door. Isn’t it? Pollution is also slowly and gradually destroying our immune system so much so that we have become prone to various other health problems.

The time is demanding and we must adopt some concrete measures in order to check air pollution and improving life on earth. With this I rest my speech!

Now may I please request our board of director Mr. …… to come on the other side of the podium and say a few words in this regard.

Speech on Air Pollution 4

Respected Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends – Warm Greetings to one and all!

I – Sakshi Tanwar from Class-XII (B) – welcome everyone to our school auditorium. As you know that today we are celebrating the World Environment Day by planting more trees and putting up banners around our school in order to spread the awareness about how important it is for us to protect our nature and save the environment from the rising pollution.

However, as I stand today in front of you, I wish to deliver a brief Speech on Air Pollution. The issue of air pollution has become a global concern now as it has reached an alarming stage and this is not a good news particularly for those suffering from certain respiratory conditions, such as asthma or those who are above 65 years of age.

Other than anthropogenic (man-made) activities which are responsible for causing air pollution; the season of summer has also a major role to play. As the temperatures soars, exhaust from cars, trucks and buses, including the common air-borne particles from power plants react with sunlight and heat to produce ground level ozone. Ozone as we all know poses a serious issue to our health, especially those who are heart patients or are suffering from respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma.

Air pollution can exacerbate the problem of asthma or even can aid in its development in people who aren’t suffering from it. Isn’t that worse? Ozone acts as an irritant which can further impact the functioning of the lungs of those who are already suffering from certain respiratory conditions. One more important fact to note that the particulate matter and Nitrates which are a byproduct of combustion engines, found particularly in trucks and buses can cause severe asthma attacks.

The quality of air is deteriorating day by day and more so because we are chopping off trees which release oxygen in the atmosphere. We are not just cutting these trees, but effacing from the earth a vital source of life on earth. Deforestation is happening for many reasons such as for commercialization, urbanization or industrialization – reason could be many, but we are causing a serious harm to our environment and are also putting our lives in danger.

On the top of it, when our farmers burn the waste crop, they also contribute a lot to the rising air pollution by releasing harmful gases to the environment. Likewise, we also have the cases of unlawful burning of garbage.

All these activities are really threatening for our environment and the government needs to take strict measures in order to combat the situation. This is all from my side!

Now may I please invite on stage Mrs. ………… who is our Social Science Teacher and I am sure she must have something really useful to share with us today. Everyone please welcome her with a huge round of applause.

Thank you for being such a wonderful audience, enjoy the day with us today!

1, 2, 3 Minute Speech on the environment Day

Greetings to all. Today is World Environment Day, a time to honour and save the planet that serves as our home. We must all take responsibility for protecting the environment because it is essential to our health. There are many ways we can help the environment, such lowering our carbon footprint by taking the bus or using a fuel-efficient car, preserving water by stopping leaks and taking shorter showers, and lowering waste by recycling and composting.

However, we also need to consider the wider picture and push for legislative changes that will have a long-term effect on the condition of our world. Supporting environmentalist politicians and groups can be a part of this, as can adopting minor lifestyle adjustments like picking out eco-friendly goods.

So let’s use World Environment Day as a chance to think about how we can conserve the environment and pledge to do our part to keep it that way for future generations. I’m grateful.

Quotes of some internationally famous personalities for Speech on Speech on environment Day

  • Mahatma Gandhi : “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”
  • Greta Thunberg : “You are never too small to make a difference.”
  • David Attenborough : “The natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”
  • Barack Obama : “We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.”
  • Jane Goodall : “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
  • Nelson Mandela : “Our world faces a true planetary emergency. I know the American people care about this as deeply as I do. But we also know that caring is not enough. We must all do our part to fight climate change.”
  • Rachel Carson : “In nature, nothing exists alone.”
  • Al Gore : “The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.”
  • Wangari Maathai : “It’s the little things citizens do. That’s what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.”
  • Pope Francis : “The Earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth.”

5 Minutes Speech on the environment

Greetings to all.

I want to discuss with you today the significance of preserving our ecosystem. The natural world provides us with so many things as humans, including the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the surrounding beauty. But because we frequently take these things for granted, we risk harming the environment.

Climate change is one of the most important environmental problems we now have. The greenhouse gases that we have been putting into the atmosphere are largely to blame for the worrisome rate at which Earth’s temperature is rising. These gases trap heat and warm the globe, which brings about a number of issues such as rising sea levels and more frequent extreme weather occurrences.

The decline in biodiversity is a significant environmental concern. Due to habitat degradation, pollution, and other human activity, many plant and animal species are becoming endangered or even extinct. This not only has a terrible effect on these species, but it also imperils ecosystem equilibrium and has a knock-on effect on the rest of nature.

What can we do, then, to safeguard the environment? We can lower our carbon footprint as one easy step. This entails conserving energy, utilising fuel-efficient vehicles, and promoting renewable energy. By being aware of the things we purchase and their production processes, we may also decrease our resource use and waste generation.

Additionally, we may help groups that fight for environmental protection by advocating for laws and policies that give the environment top priority. Every small action counts, and it is up to each of us to contribute to protecting the environment for future generations.

I appreciate your attention.

Speech on Water Pollution for Students and Children

Speech on water pollution.

Water pollution is a very serious environmental issue that we are facing right now. Water gets polluted when the physical, biological and chemical properties deteriorate due to human activities. Further, water pollution is responsible for impacting the lives of humans and animals as well. It is extremely hazardous to the environment and must be curbed right away. You might think that the water you drink daily is clean but it contains pollutants. Thus, we need to adopt measures that will help prevent water pollution on a global level for a healthier lifestyle.

speech on water pollution

Critical Concern

As mentioned above, water pollution is a significant threat to the ecosystem and the sustenance of life. The major cause responsible for water pollution is definitely the industries that dump waste into water bodies. They do not properly treat the waste and directly dump the harmful toxins in the water.

Thus, it hampers the quality of aquatic life badly. The aquatic species consume the harmful chemical which is present in the water and die because of it. Consequently, it is a huge threat to the ecosystem whether on land or water. Moreover, these chemicals also reduce the oxygen content in the water bodies.

Further, we see that the brutal use of fertilizers and pesticides that are done in the agricultural sector pollutes the water bodies greatly. When the discharge is not regulated and sanitation is not proper, it contributes to water pollution. Moreover, the humans and animals who consume this water from the polluted water bodies have a negative impact on their health.

Besides, these polluted water bodies have become home to bacteria and germs. Thus, they cause waterborne diseases and epidemics like diarrhoea, cholera, and more. Similarly, they also contaminate underground water when it seeps through the soil.

Thus, we need to prevent water pollution by adopting proper waste management policies. A single organization, government or individual won’t be able to accomplish this task. We need to do it collectively.

Ways to Prevent Water Pollution

We can all collectively control water pollution to a large extent. We need to realize that pollution’s solution is dilution. There are several methods through which one can control water pollution. To begin with, the sewage pollutants contain a lot of toxic materials. So, they must be chemically treated in order to make them less toxic.

A factor which contributes to this pollution is organic insecticides so we can reduce it by using less stable chemicals in their manufacturing process. Further, there must be regulation of industries, as they shouldn’t be allowed to dump the waste into water bodies.

Similarly, there must be proper sewage treatment plants in every city. This will allow using the same water in factories and also irrigation. Moreover, this water can also serve as a great fertilizer. In addition, we must also adopt measures to reduce the occurrences of oil spills.

On an individual level, we can also do our bit to prevent water pollution. Begin by saying no to plastic as it remains in our oceans for thousands of years. Reuse the items so there is less waste production. Try limiting the use of detergents and bleaches, and if necessary, use environment-friendly detergents.

All in all, it is very essential for all to start practising a lifestyle which does not contribute to water pollution. We need water to survive and there won’t be life without it. Thus, to make the world a better place for the upcoming generations, we must start working from now.
