About us 

ICMR School of Public Health (ICMR SPH) is the academic division of ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology. ICMR SPH offers training for two-year Master of Public Health in Epidemiology & Health Systems and M.Sc. in Biostatistics , PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics , certificate program in field epidemiology and short courses. The MPH (EHS) is a professional degree in advanced field epidemiology awarded by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, since 2011. The M.Sc. (Bio-statistics) degree is awarded by Periyar University, Tamil Nadu, since 2016.

The PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics is geared towards students and professionals who wish to pursue a career in teaching and/or research in universities or research organizations. The institute is recognised for PhD in Epidemiology by The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University and University of Madras and for PhD in Biostatistics by University of Madras . ICMR-SPH offers two-year certificate course in field epidemiology as part of the India-Epidemic Intelligence Service programme (EIS) in collaboration with National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi and CDC-India. The division also runs several short-term courses on research methods, public health surveillance, outbreak investigation, and epidemiological data analysis.

Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University (popularly known as MGR University) is located in Chennai and has been functioning since 1980.   The university aims to prepare the students for a better career by engaging them in courses including experimental medicines, epidemiology, dental, and allied health sciences.

It is interesting to note that the university is trying to spread awareness among the students by offering Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy Courses. The offered courses include BDS, MDS, BAMS, BNYS, BSMS, BHMS, B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharmacy, B.Pharmacy, and medical allied courses. Before being admitted, students must submit an application and the MGR university eligibility certificate that has been issued by the institution.

TNMGRMU Admission 2024-25 Latest Updates

• The application deadline will be 31 July 2024* for the MGR University Admission 2024-25, and the students must apply before the deadline with the registration fee of INR 2,000. 
• TNMGRMU will open admissions for UG, PG, and Certificate courses soon. Students  who are  interested in applying for these courses should submit their applications before  31 July 2024* .
• TNMGRMU is open the application form for students for the PhD course admission. The last date for PhD application form is 15 July 2024* .

MGR University Admission 2024-25

MGR University offers admission to various UG and PG courses such as BSc, MSc, MBBS, MDS, PhD,  and nursing programs for the academic session 2024-25. The last date to submit the MGR University Admission form 2024-25 is 31 July 2024* . Students can fill out the registration form online by visiting the official web portal @drmgrdu.ac.in .  Students who are willing to get MGR admission have to apply by visiting the university's official website.

TNMGRMU admission 2024-25 offers UG Courses, PG Courses, and doctoral-level courses. If the student wants to take the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University Admission 2024 then it is compulsory to clear the entrance exam that is conducted by the university. Admission to UG Courses requires a 10+2 passing certificate from a recognized university. 

Eligible students can apply for MGR University Admission 2024-25 on the university's official website. This university is also providing MBBS and BDS degrees. If the student wants to take admission in this course then the candidate needs to complete the 12th class in Biology subject. The university decides the admission of the student based on the entrance exam that is conducted by the university.

TNMGRMU UG Admission 2024-25

TNMGRMU UG Admission 2024-25 is being offered in medical, dental, medicine, homeopathy, and allied health sciences fields through the NEET-like entrance test. Students can apply for the concerned mgr university admission 2024-25 department of the of the university. Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University UG admission 2024 last date is  31 July 2024* . Admission doors are open for BSc cardiac technology, BSc dialysis technology, BSc medical sociology, and BSc physician assistant courses. All these four-year courses have been structured under medical, dental, medicine, and allied health sciences departments.

The minimum eligibility for the MGR University Admission UG degree is HSC. However, students who are enrolling from states other than Tamil Nadu will need to submit the eligibility certificate to the Department of Admission. Its UG application form fee is INR 100, and the deposit can be made by NEFT or other digital options through the payment gateway of TNMGRMU.

MGR University PG Admission 2024-25

TNMGRMU PG admission 2024-25 in guided department courses e.g., MSC clinical nutrition/human genetics/Optometry/Bio-Statistics, and MPH clinical society work is open for this academic session. The programs will be taught in dental, medicine, medical, allied health sciences, and homeopathy departments. The course registration will be done for an entrance test. The entrance fee for MSC public health is INR 118. MGR University PG Admission 2024-25 last date is 31 July 2024* .

Completing a bachelor's degree from Tamil Nadu will exempt an individual from the eligibility certificate requirement. The students who have completed the UG degree from any other university in the state would need to submit the eligibility certificate. Still, one has to attain the relevant degree in the science or related stream for the concerned course. The application fee for admission to MGR University is INR 200, and it can be paid online.

MGR University PhD Admission 2024-25

TNGMRU  Offers admission to PhD courses and the application form is available on the university website. Candidates who have qualified for a post-graduation degree with the minimum passing marks can apply for the course. TNGMRU Ph.D. admission  is based on an online procedure as there is an option for students to visit the campus of the university. TNMGRMU PhD Admission 2024-25 has been started and the last date is  17 July 2024.

Candidates can secure admission with Rs 2000/- application form fees . The application  process is available in Online mode, and candidates can fill it out by visiting the Official website.

Students have to pay a fee of INR 1600 for the Application and eligibility certificate. The payment can be made through Credit/Debit cards or Internet banking. NRI Students completing an advanced level qualification and central board examination abroad can also apply by paying the required fee by the university. The origin of applying student should be Indian, who has settled abroad or should be born to parents of Indian origin abroad. Dr. Bu: A Global Journey in Engineering and Logistics, from Xinjiang to PhD Success

Dr. Bu will be starting his position this fall as Assistant Professor within the IMSE department.

Dr. Bu received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2024. His research focuses consist of Economic Analysis, Intermodal Transportation, Decision Models & Decision Analysis, Freight Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Date Science with Machine Learning. 

Originally from Shehezi City, Xinjiang, China, Dr. Bu navigated his way to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication Engineering from the Beijing Jiaotong University, and then his Master of Science of Engineering Business management from Warick University in 2014.

His dissertation, titled “Feasibility Assessment and Container Traffic Forecasting of Inland Waterway Container on Barge Transportation,” earned him his PhD in the summer of 2024. His accolades consist of coming in 1st Place in 2023 for the Jack Buffington maritime Transportation Research and Education Center Outstanding Student Poster, among various other honors.

Dr. Bu is not only passionate about his engineering career, but also about cooking. He grows plants, specifically herbs like basil or cilantro. This not only serves as a hobby, but also enhances his culinary endeavors. Dr. Bu also states that, “I also go fishing occasionally, finding it both relaxing and rewarding.”

Primary Academic Title

Assistant Professor of Genetic Medicine

Xiao Peng, M.D., Ph.D., is currently Assistant Professor and Director of the Genetics of Blood and Immunity Clinic in the Johns Hopkins Department of Genetic Medicine. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Peng also completed a combined residency in pediatrics and medical genetics, followed by a year as Genetics Chief Resident and research fellow supported by a National Institutes of Health T32 grant.

Dr. Peng’s clinical focus is on patients with suspected inborn errors of blood and immunity. She is co-author of multiple book chapters, several key reviews and scientific articles of the condition, and is a founding member of the Center for Immune-Related Disorders, a multi-disciplinary consortium of providers developed to help establish better resources for diagnosis and treatment of patients with suspected immune-related disorders.

Dr. Peng graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in chemistry with honors from Caltech and then worked as a research assistant, sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, in the Cancer Genomics program at the Broad Institute of Harvard/MIT. During this time, she participated in many published basic science and translational medicine projects. At the Broad Institute, Dr. Peng also gained extensive experience in genomics and other cutting-edge technologies.

She graduated with an M.D., Ph.D. from the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Memorial Sloan-Kettering Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program in 2017, where she continued to pursue her interest in fundamental biological processes by studying the interface between DNA replication/repair, transcriptional regulation and post-translational protein modification pathways. She also published additional research in immunology and developmental gene regulation.

Since being at Johns Hopkins, she has adapted her basic science background into an innovative and mechanistic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of human disease. Her teaching and research interests in have synergistically converged with her passion for the care of patients with disorders of immunity and hematopoiesis. She continues to teach courses on immunity, genetics/genomics and their interface to trainees at many levels.

What is the procedure to get transcripts from dr. mgr educational and research university.

Then start your preparation for GRE/TOFEL. You can take coaching, or study on your own. Once you get your GRE score, you can start your admission process. 

You can go for further studies abroad, even if you don’t have a decent GRE score. There are many alumni of Dr. MGR University, who have successfully completed their masters from abroad and working there. Get in touch with them for inputs.

What happens inside the counselling hall for admission to an MBBS course at The Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University?

The counselling usually takes place at Govt. Omandurar Medical College, but there have been plans of making it online.

Here's how counselling usually takes place:

• You will be given a tentative time slot for your rank. For example, if you come under state rank 1–500, your time slot will be from 9 AM to 11 AM, and so on.
• You will wait in the tent until your time slot. 
• Screens inside the tent display the number of seats available in each college and the students who have been alloted to each college.
• When your time slot comes, you will be given an ID card and will be allowed to take 1 parent inside. 
• Once inside, there will be an IOB (Indian Overseas Bank) to take a DD to pay for counselling fees.
• You continue to wait until they call out your rank. Usually they call 10–20 ranks at a time. 
• Once inside the counselling hall, you will be given a form to fill the basic details (name, contact, etc). 
• The parents are seated separately. You must carry your folder containing all documents. 
• For document verification you will be called to a table where government officers sit and scrutinize every single document. 
• Once you submit the copies of the original documents, show the originals and answer their questions, you will be stamped clear for college selection.
• After all this, you will be directed to a person who will lock your college when the time comes. 
• You tell them what college you choose and when your rank comes they lock your college. 

But counselling does not end here. For post counselling formalities, you will be given a receipt. You have to go to another room where they stamp that receipt. You have to pay the fees in the counselling hall itself. Again you go to the IOB counter, get a DD for the fees specified and produce the DD at another counter, where they give you an admit card. 

You have to report at your college within 3 days. If you are from a CBSE or ICSE school, you have to get an eligibility certificate from MGR Medical University showing your admit card there. To avoid the crowd reach as early as possible.

How do I apply for transcripts from TN Dr MGR Medical University Chennai for the WES process?

According to one of my friends it is quite a tough procedure to get transcripts from MGR Medical University. He tried a lot to get one from the university for WES evaluation but was not able to reach them at all.

He then came across MailTranscripts. They were offering transcripts services which you could apply through them without even visiting the university that got the transcripts. Transcripts were sent directly by the university to WES within a short period of time. 

He said he came across such a trustworthy company and was very satisfied with the kind of service that they provided. Therefore, it is suggested that if you need to acquire transcripts go with MailTranscripts, as you are sure to get a  good experience and customer service.

What is the process of counseling for an MBBS in CMC Vellore for a sponsored student from another state? How can we get the eligibility certificate from Dr. MGR University?

You will need to register with Tamil Nadu Selection Committee for management quota seats. Next, participate in the counseling. If you have a good score within your diocese, you will be shortlisted and get an admission letter. After that, you will need to visit CMC Vellore to complete the admission process. 

To get the eligibility certificate from Dr. MGR University, you can visit the campus with all required documents and make the payment at the bank counter there. You can also apply for the EC online. EC is not needed for counseling. But you will need it to complete your admission.

Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering

Students typically complete the Ph.D. degree requirements in three to five years. Early in the program, students focus on course-work that enhances their knowledge as they prepare to conduct research.

Within one year, students must pass the departmental qualifying exam, an oral exam that tests research skills and knowledge of a core mechanical engineering subject area.

Student research forms the core of the Ph.D. program. Research involves active student-directed inquiry into an engineering problem, culminating in a written thesis and oral defense.

Ph.D. Financial Support

The majority of full-time Ph.D. students accepted through the standard application process receive fellowships that cover full tuition, the technology fee, and a stipend for living expenses for up to five years, as long as sufficient progress is made toward degree completion. These awards are sufficient to cover all expenses for the year (including summers). Students are required to pay for health insurance, the transportation fee, the activity fee, books, and course supplies. Off-campus housing is available within walking distance of campus. At least one year of residency is required for the Ph.D. We offer two ways to enter the Ph.D. program.

Advanced entry Ph.D.

The advanced entry Ph.D. is for students with an M.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent field.

Direct Ph.D.

The direct Ph.D. is for students entering the program with a B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent field.
