TEXT TO SPEECH SYNTHESIS FOR GHANAIAN LOCAL LANGUAGES (Twi)

Abstract Businesses in Ghana do communicate with each other through letters, telephones, fax, and emails. Due to the growth of technology, most of these businesses are providing their services online to make it convenient for customers. However, these mediums of communication have some limitations when it comes to language. In the instance where the parties involved in the communication speak and understand different languages, it becomes difficult to understand. Businesses would like to reach out to these people in a language they can understand. Statistics have shown that almost half of the Ghanaian Adult (15 and above) population are illiterates however they also need to do business as well to take care of their family. The challenge is that due to their inability to understand the message, either in text or audio, they tend to be left out in this age of technology growth. As a solution, this paper intends to develop a text-to-speech application system in Twi which can be used to develop prompts for Interactive Voice Response.

Is Kamala Harris going to be president? 'The Simpsons' writer reacts to viral 'prediction'

speech writers in ghana

" The Simpsons " fans love a show "prediction," and the latest theory surrounds Vice President Kamala Harris ' future in office.

President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he is  ending his bid for reelection  amid intense pressure from Democratic leaders, who had been sounding the alarm that his path to beat  former President Donald Trump  in November had vanished.

Biden quickly endorsed  Vice President Kamala Harris  as the Democratic nominee in a  separate statement  on X. Harris responded that she was honored to have Biden's endorsement and that her "intention is to earn and win this nomination."

. @TheSimpsons “prediction” I’m proud to be a part of. pic.twitter.com/ZvkqotRpsn — Al Jean (@AlJean) July 21, 2024

Following the historic bombshell, longtime writer and showrunner for "The Simpsons" Al Jean posted a viral side-by-side photo of the animated character Lisa from the Season 11 episode "Bart to the Future" when she became president, and Harris in 2021 when she was sworn in as the first female vice president of the United States.

"@TheSimpsons 'prediction' I’m proud to be a part of," Jean wrote on X Sunday.

The comparison made rounds in 2021 because Lisa's outfit in the episode features her in pearl earrings, a pearl necklace and a purple blazer — just like Harris wore during Biden's inauguration.

Fans of "The Simpsons" have long thought the show has predicted future historic events, including Trump's 2016 election, the  Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol  and Queen Elizabeth II's death .

Celebrities back Kamala Harris for president after Joe Biden drops reelection bid

The show's creators, though, have refuted the idea that it can predict the future.

Bill Oakley , a former showrunner, said in a  2020 Reuters interview , "I would say in general when people say 'The Simpsons' has predicted something, it is just that we were satirizing real-life events from years before, and because history keeps repeating, it just seems like we were predicting things."

This Crew Is Totally Beatable

Democrats just need to believe they can do it.

A photo of Donald Trump addressing the RNC

A t the climax of the Republican National Convention last night, former President Donald Trump’s nomination-acceptance speech was a disheveled mess, endless and boring. He spoke for 93 minutes, the longest such speech on record. The runner-up was another Trump speech, in 2016, but that earlier effort had a certain sinister energy to it. This one limped from dull to duller.

Somebody seems to have instructed Trump that he was supposed to have been spiritually transformed by the attempt on his life, so he delivered the opening segment of his address in a dreary monotone, the Trump version of pious solemnity. After that prologue, the speech meandered along bizarre byways to pointless destinations. A few minutes before midnight eastern time, Trump pronounced a heavy “to conclude”—and then kept going for another nine minutes. Perhaps it was the disorienting aftereffect of shock, perhaps the numbing side effect of painkillers.

Whatever the explanation, Trump demonstrated in Milwaukee that President Joe Biden is not the only national politician diminished by the years. Trump too is dwindling into himself, even more isolated from such facts about the external world as elapsed time and audience impatience.

Read: The new Trump is always the old Trump

Formless and digressive as it was, the speech did have one major theme—a theme that underscores why and how the Democrats should be winning this race.

Trump stood on the podium in Milwaukee to sell nostalgia for his term in office. In fact, the Trump presidency ended in disaster, by many measures the worst fourth year of a presidency since Herbert Hoover’s in 1932: pandemic, mass death, economic collapse, rioting, and a surge in violent crime. By contrast, Biden’s presidency is delivering the best fourth year since … whose? Bill Clinton’s in 1996? Ronald Reagan’s in 1984? Calvin Coolidge’s in 1924?

Unemployment has reached the lowest level in more than half a century. The post-pandemic inflation has stopped and gone into reverse. The stock market has soared to record highs. Social indicators too are improving from the chaos left behind by Trump. In each year of the Trump presidency—not just in pandemic 2020, but for each of the three years before that—the rate of marriages and childbirths in the United States dropped. Under Biden, marriages and childbirths are rising again. Drug-overdose deaths are decreasing. The Trump-era violent-crime wave is receding at last.

The contrast could not be starker. Yet, if the polls are correct, it’s not helping Biden.

The Trump theory of his presidency is that Trump deserves credit for the good times of 2017, 2018, and 2019 and no discredit for the crisis of 2020. But both halves of that are backwards. The economy started growing fast in 2014, so Trump arrived in office just in time to claim credit for work that had been done by his predecessors. Managing crises is what Americans hire presidents to do, but Trump’s crisis management was almost uniquely bad. He responded to the pandemic with a blend of denial, callousness, and quackery; then he responded to 2020’s nationwide spasm of riots and the crime spike that occurred on his watch by casting blame upon others.

One of Trump’s skills is that he is a superb marketer of terrible products. Anybody can promote a great steak or an elegant hotel, but Trump’s a genius at touting bad steaks and tacky resorts as if they were actually quality items. He’s doing the same with his record as president. He wants accolades for the strong economy in place when he arrived, while he effaces the memory of the wreck he bequeathed.

The truth is that Trump’s record as president was the same as his record as a businessman: rich until the inheritance ran out.

W hy can’t Democrats make more effective use of the catastrophe left behind by the Trump presidency? Two reasons: one incidental, the other arising from defects in the party’s values and organization.

Here’s the incidental reason: The job of defining what a presidency is all about—in other words, what it wants to do and what it has accomplished—is inescapably the president’s and his alone. If he cannot do that, he concedes the game before it has started. Trump was an unfathomably lazy president. He idled away the equivalent of almost a full year of his presidency on golf courses. When not golfing, he wasted hours upon hours watching—and complaining about—cable news. But however little time he committed to work, one task he did not shirk: demanding and getting credit for good news on his watch.

Come a strong jobs report or a new stock-market record and Trump would boast and brag and ballyhoo. Nothing positive went unadvertised by a president who understood mass media better than the mass media understood themselves.

That has not been Biden’s way. He has seldom succeeded in directing the nation’s attention where he wanted to go. Frequently, he did not try to do so. He worked more than Trump, but somehow mattered less. Jobs and wages might go up; voter opinions about the economy went down. By last summer, real wages were rising faster than at any time under Trump. Yet Americans continued to express negative assessments of the economy deep into 2024. The Biden presidency has too often disappeared into that gap between perception and reality, a gap that a different president might have closed.

Compare two election-year State of the Union addresses: Clinton’s in 1996 and Biden’s in 2024. Clinton began his economic report within the very first minute of his speech:

The state of the Union is strong. Our economy is the healthiest it has been in three decades. We have the lowest combined rates of unemployment and inflation in 27 years. We have created nearly 8 million new jobs, over a million of them in basic industries, like construction and automobiles. America is selling more cars than Japan for the first time since the 1970s. And for three years in a row, we have had a record number of new businesses started in our country.

Biden also had good news to tell:

I inherited an economy that was on the brink. Now our economy is the envy of the world! Fifteen million new jobs in just three years—that’s a record! Unemployment at 50-year lows. A record 16 million Americans are starting small businesses and each one is an act of hope. With historic job growth and small business growth for Black, Hispanic, and Asian Americans. Eight hundred thousand new manufacturing jobs in America and counting. More people have health insurance today than ever before.

But Biden took a quarter of an hour to get to that news.

This Clinton-Biden disparity reveals something bigger than a difference in presidential style. The Democratic Party has profoundly changed since the 1990s. Today, tremendous power within the party has been amassed by groups and factions that speak for grievances. Good news is contrary to their principles and their purpose. Nobody can be happy if anybody is unhappy. They seem to believe that the way to reelect an administration is to detail all the things still wrong after four years of holding office. Here’s the advice Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut was offering Biden on the eve of his disastrous first debate with Donald Trump: “You should spend 80 percent of the time telling the story of how the drug companies screwed people, and 20 percent of the time explaining the solution. We do the opposite.”

Last year, The Washington Post ’s Paul Waldman remarked upon the Biden administration’s “fear of being seen as out of touch—or their fear of being scolded by participants in an elite debate that is invisible to most of the electorate.” That latter observation was exactly correct. Above all else, the Biden administration feared scolding by progressive interest groups. Those groups gain clout within the Democratic universe by accusing and disparaging. They imagine that the same techniques might work for an incumbent Democratic president with a record to defend, seeking to persuade swing voters. They don’t, and they won’t.

T he Republican National Convention cast a bright light on the party of Trump’s weaknesses: its extremism, its cultishness, its lack of welcome to the majority of Americans. The central idea implicit in the vice-presidential nominee’s speech was the superior Americanness of those with seven generations of ancestors buried in U.S. ground over those whose ancestors are buried in other places. The central idea in the presidential nominee’s speech was “me, me, me, me, me” for more than an hour and a half.

This crew is as beatable as any reactionary minority faction ever was beatable.

Read: The Democrats aren’t even trying

Democrats seem to be convinced by the hope that the way to inflict the beating is to change leadership. But the biggest defect of the present Democratic leadership was imposed by the Democratic followership: the reluctance to accept the fact that four years of non-Trump leadership have accomplished an enormous amount that is worth defending.

With a predator’s cunning, Trump has always understood that the first step to winning the confidence of others is to project confidence in oneself. Trump has used that understanding for his own crooked and criminal purposes. But the same understanding can be put to good use by better people.

Believe! Or lose.

'Worst president': Donald Trump reacts to President Joe Biden dropping out of 2024 election

"Biden was not fit to run for President," he wrote.

Former President Donald Trump swiftly reacted to President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 election , saying his former opponent was "not fit to run."

Trump issued his statement on Truth Social, writing, "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was!"

He continued, "All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t."

Trump went on to bring up some of his regular campaign talking points, slamming Biden over the border before adding, "We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

At the start of his statement, Trump also called Biden "the Worst President, by far, in the History of our Nation."

The former president's campaign immediately began a new fundraising push following Biden's announcement, writing, "But RIGHT NOW, he just quit the race in COMPLETE DISGRACE!"

House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote on X , "At this unprecedented juncture in American history, we must be clear about what just happened. The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election."

He also called for Biden to resign.

"If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough," Johnson posted on X.

Sen. Josh Hawley quickly reacted to the Biden news, calling for the president to step down.

"Then RESIGN your office. If you can’t run a mere political campaign, you can’t be President," he wrote in response to Biden's statement.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise wrote on X , "Democrat party bosses just proved that they have absolutely no respect for their own voters. After lecturing others about democracy, they just forced Joe Biden off the ticket—trashing the primary choice of 14 million of their own voters.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement , reacting to Biden's announcement, "For four years, the American people have faced historic inflation at home, chaos at the border, and weak leadership on the world stage. Our nation is less prosperous and less secure than it was in January, 2021. We cannot afford four more years of failure.

“Unfortunately, the Democratic Party has been busy in recent weeks trying to upend the expressed will of the American people in primary elections across the country. Washington Democrats have not proven themselves any more capable than the President of delivering the secure borders, safe streets, and stable prices that working families deserve. They are selling open borders, higher prices, climate radicalism, and soft-on-crime policies, and the American people are not buying," McConnell's statement concluded.

Trump campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, on behalf of the former president's campaign, issued a statement slamming Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Crooked Joe Biden is a complete fraud and a disgrace to our Country," they said in their statement. …

They continued, "And during this entire term, Kamala Harris – as well as every other Democrat in Washington, sat by and did NOTHING. They are all just as complicit as Biden is in the destruction of our once-great Nation, and they must all be thrown out of office."

They also questioned Biden staying in office following his decision not to run.

"The question then to Kamala Harris is simple: knowing that Joe Biden withdrew from the campaign because of his rapidly deteriorating condition, does Harris believe the people of America are safe and secure with Joe Biden in the White House for six more months?"

In a statement on Sunday, Biden announced he was withdrawing from the 2024 election.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," he said in his statement.

The president immediately threw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

"My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made."

"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year," Biden said in a post on X. "Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

Biden said he plans to address the nation later this week with more details on his decision to leave the race.

RNC speakers told to leave speeches unchanged in wake of Trump assassination attempt

MILWAUKEE — Speakers at the Republican National Convention have been given specific advice about how to handle their speeches in the wake of Saturday’s attempted assassination of Donald Trump: Change nothing.

Trump aides and convention leadership have not told those speaking at the weeklong convention in Milwaukee to alter their original speeches after the shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump did not want to show signs of weakness or signal that the shooting affected the long-planned convention, according to seven people who are either set to give RNC speeches or their aides.

“It seems people are just going to talk about what they were going to talk about,” a source familiar with the speaking arrangements said. “Trump is setting the tone, and the tone is business as usual.”

The one issue that has been discussed is which specific speakers will bring up the assassination attempt. There was concern that the topic would come up in every speech, which organizers wanted to avoid.

“Only thing that we were told is they are going to figure out who they want to talk about it,” said a scheduled speaker, Matt Brooks, the executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition. “It was to avoid having 100 speakers saying the same thing.

“In terms of substance, nothing else has changed,” he added.

An aide for another speaker said: “That tracks with what we have heard.

“The guidance has been not to change speeches,” the person added.

Neither Trump’s campaign nor the Republican National Committee responded to requests seeking comment.

There was a sense, according to the people interviewed by NBC News, that Trump and the convention organizers did not want the appearance of being weak in the face of the assassination attempt.

“Project confidence,” a speaker said of what they are being told. “Keep the status quo.”

Though speakers are being told to maintain their original plans, the impact of an assassination attempt on the party’s presumptive nominee will be felt in Milwaukee.

NBC N e ws re ported Sunday that in the day since the assassination attempt, there has been renewed energy and a sense of enthusiasm among many Republicans attending the event.

“What was already going to be a significant moment of unification behind President Trump will now become the most unified and vocal support for a presidential nominee this nation has ever witnessed,” said Trump-endorsed Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Cabrera.

The convention officially kicks off Monday, and more than 80 speakers are scheduled throughout the week.

'A night of hope': JD Vance speech transcript

speech writers in ghana

Editor's note: The following is the pre-released prepared GOP Vice Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech delivered by U.S. Sen. JD Vance of Ohio at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

My fellow Americans, my name is JD Vance , from the great state of Ohio. Tonight is a night of hope. A celebration of what America once was, and with God’s grace, what it will soon be again.

And it is a reminder of the sacred duty that we have to preserve the American experiment, to choose a new path for our children and grandchildren.

But as we meet tonight, we cannot forget that this evening could have been much different. Instead of a day of celebration, this could have been a day of heartache and mourning. For the last eight years, President Trump has given everything he has to fight for the people of our country. He didn’t need politics, but the country needed him.

Prior to running for president, he was one of the most successful businessmen in the world. He had everything anyone could ever want in a life. And yet, instead of choosing the easy path, he chose to endure abuse, slander, and persecution.

But don’t take my word for it, go and watch the video of a would-be assassin coming a quarter of an inch from taking his life. Consider the lies they told you about Donald Trump. And then look at the photo of him defiant – fist in the air.

When Donald J. Trump rose to his feet in that Pennsylvania field – all of America stood up with him.

Even in his most perilous moment we were on his mind. His instinct was for US. To call us to something higher. To something greater. To once again be citizens who ask what our country needs of us.

He called for national unity, for calm. He remembered the victims of the terrible attack, especially the brave Corey Comperatore , who gave his life to protect his family.

And then President Trump Flew to Milwaukee and got back to work.

Letter to the editor: JD Vance is no hillbilly – and knows nothing about real conservative values

Who is JD Vance? What to know about Donald Trump's VP pick

Who is JD Vance's wife? Here's what we know about Usha Chilukuri Vance

That is the man I’ve gotten to know personally over the last few years.

He is our once and future president future president of the United States.

And I want to respond to his call for unity myself.

And my message to my fellow Americans is: shouldn’t we be governed by a party that is unafraid to debate ideas and come to the best solution?

That’s the Republican Party of the next four years: united in our love for America and committed to free speech and the open exchange of ideas.

So tonight, I stand here humbled, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude, to say..

I officially accept your nomination to be vice president of the United States of America.

Never in my wildest imagination would I have believed that I could be standing here tonight.

Who is JD Vance? Ohioans have not-so-pretty things to say about Trump's VP pick.

I grew up in Middletown, Ohio, a small town where people spoke their minds, built with their hands, and loved their God, family, community, and country with their whole hearts.

But it was also a place that had been cast aside and forgotten by America’s ruling class in Washington.

When I was in the fourth grade, a career politician by the name of Joe Biden supported NAFTA , a bad trade deal that sent countless good American manufacturing jobs to Mexico.

When I was a sophomore in high school, a career politician by the name of Joe Biden gave China a sweetheart trade deal that destroyed even more good middle class jobs.

And when I was a senior in high school, Joe Biden supported the disastrous invasion of Iraq.

And at each step of the way, in small towns like mine in Ohio, or next door in Pennsylvania, or in Michigan and other states across our country, jobs were sent overseas and children were sent to war.

Somehow, a real estate developer from New York by the name of Donald Trump was right on all of these issues while Joe Biden was wrong. Donald Trump knew, even then, that we needed leaders who would put America First.

Thanks to these policies that Biden and the other out-of-touch politicians in Washington gave us, our country was flooded with cheap Chinese goods and cheap foreign labor… And in the decades to come, deadly Chinese fentanyl.

Joe Biden screwed up, and my community paid the price.

Now, I was lucky. Despite the closing factories and the growing addiction in towns like mine, in my life, I had a guardian angel by my side. She was an old woman who could barely walk but was tough as nails.

I called her “Mamaw,” the name we hillbillies gave to our grandmothers.

Mamaw raised me as her own as my own mother struggled with addiction.

Thanks to Mamaw, things worked out for me.

After 9/11, I did what thousands of other young men my age did in that time of soaring patriotism and love of country: I enlisted in the United States Marines.

I left the Marines after four years and went to the Ohio State, and then to law school at Yale—where I met my beautiful wife—and then started businesses to create jobs in the kinds of places I grew up.

My work taught me that there is still so much talent and grit in the American heartland. But for these places to thrive, we need a leader who fights for the people who built this country.

We need President Donald J. Trump.

Some people tell me I’ve lived the American Dream, and they are right.

But the American Dream that always counted most was not starting a business or becoming a senator or even being here with you fine people, it was becoming a good husband and a good dad, and of giving my family the things I never had as a kid.

And that’s the accomplishment I’m proudest of.

That tonight I’m joined by my beautiful wife, Usha, an incredible lawyer and a better mom, and our three kids — Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel—hopefully in bed.

Things did not work out well for a lot kids I grew up with. Every now and then I will get a call from a relative back home who asks, did you know “so and so.” And I’ll remember a face from years ago. And then I’ll hear, “they died of an overdose.”

As always, America’s ruling class wrote the checks; communities like mine paid the price.

For decades, that divide between the few, with their power and comfort in Washington, and the rest of us only widened.

From Iraq to Afghanistan, from the financial crisis to the Great Recession, from open borders to stagnating wages, the people who govern this country have failed and failed again.

That is, until President Donald J. Trump came along.

Donald Trump represents America’s last best hope to restore what – if lost – may never be found again.

But my fellow Americans, this moment is not about me, it’s about all of us, and who we’re fighting for.

It’s about the auto worker in Michigan, wondering why out of touch politicians are destroying your jobs.

It’s about the factory worker in Wisconsin, who makes things with their hands and is proud of American craftsmanship.

It’s about the energy worker in Pennsylvania and Ohio, who doesn’t understand why Joe Biden is willing to buy energy from tinpot dictators but not hard-working Americans right here at home.

BUCKEYE STATE: JD Vance would be first Ohio resident to be vice president, is first in 80 years on ticket

And, it’s about single moms like mine, who struggled with money and addiction but never gave up.

And I am proud to say that tonight my mom is here, 10 years clean and sober.

I love you, mom.

It's about grandparents all across this country, who are living on Social Security and raising grandchildren they didn't expect to raise.

Joe Biden has been a politician in Washington for longer than I've been alive.

For half-a-century, he's been the champion of every major policy initiative to make America weaker and poorer.

In four years, Donald Trump reversed decades of betrayals inflicted by Joe Biden and the rest of the corrupt Washington insiders.

He created the greatest economy in history for workers. Just imagine what he can do with four more years in the White House.

Months ago, I heard some young family member observe that their parents’ generation—the baby boomers—could afford to buy a home when they first entered the workforce. “But I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to afford a home,” they said sadly.

The absurd cost of housing is the result of many failures of America’s leadership class. And I can tell you exactly how it happened.

Wall Street barons crashed the economy and American builders went out of business.

As tradesmen scrambled for jobs, houses stopped being built.

The lack of good jobs led to stagnant wages.

Then Democrats flooded the country with illegal immigrants.

So citizens had to compete – with people who shouldn’t even be here – for precious housing.

Joe Biden’s inflation crisis is really an affordability crisis.

Many of the people that I grew up with can't afford to pay more for groceries, more for gas, more for rent, and that's exactly what Joe Biden’s economy has given them. So prices soared and dreams were shattered.

And China and the cartels sent fentanyl across the border, adding addiction to the heartache.

But that’s not the end of our story.

We’ve heard about the villains and their victims. But let me tell you about the future.

President Trump’s vision is simple - we won’t cater to Wall Street, we’ll commit to the working man

We won’t import foreign labor, we’ll fight for American citizens. We won’t buy energy from countries that hate us, we’ll get it right here from American Workers. We won’t sacrifice our supply chains to unlimited global trade, we’ll stamp every product Made in the USA. We will build factories again, put people to work making real products for American families, made with the hands of American workers.Together, we will protect the wages of American workers—union and non-union alike—and stop the Chinese Communist Party from building THEIR middle class on the backs of our hard-working citizens.Together, we will make our allies share in the burden of securing world peace: no more free rides for nations that betray the generosity of the American taxpayer.Together, we will send our kids to war only when we must.

ELECTION 2024: What has JD Vance written about state, national issues?

But as President Trump showed with the elimination of ISIS, when we punch, we will punch hard.Together, we will put the citizens of America first, whatever the color of their skin. We will, in short, make America great again. I am married to the daughter of South Asian immigrants to this country, incredible people, people who genuinely have enriched the country in so many ways. And of course, I'm biased, because I love my wife, but I believe that it's true.

When I proposed to my wife, we were in law school, and I said, Honey, I come with $120,000 worth of law school debt, and a cemetery plot on a mountainside in eastern Kentucky. That cemetery plot in Eastern Kentucky is near my family’s ancestral home. Like a lot of people, we came from the mountains of Appalachia into the factories of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. This is Kentucky coal country, by the way, one of the 10 poorest counties in the entire United States of America. They are very hardworking people, and they're very good people, and they would give you the shirt off their back. The media call them “privileged” and look down on them. But they love this country, not only because it's a good idea. But because in their bones, they know that this is their home, and it will be their children's home, and they would die fighting to protect it. That is the source of America's greatness.

As a U.S. senator , I get to represent millions of people in the state of Ohio with similar stories, and it’s the great honor of my life.

But never forget that the reason why this united Republican Party exists, why we do this, why we care about all those great ideas and that great history, is that we want this nation to thrive for centuries to come.

Eventually, in that mountain cemetery, my children will lay me to rest. And when they do, I would like them to know that thanks to the work of this Republican Party, the United States of America is as strong and as proud and as great as ever. And the thing that we have to do, right now, to make that happen, is to re-elect President Donald J. Trump!Mr. President, I will never take for granted the trust you have put in me. And what an honor it is to help achieve the extraordinary vision you have for our country.

I pledge to every American - no matter your party, I will give everything I have to serve you and to make this country a place where every dream you have for yourself, your family, and your country will be possible once again.

And I promise you one more thing - the people of Middletown, Ohio, and all the forgotten communities in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and every corner of our nation…

I promise you this - I will never forget where I came from.

And every single day for the next four years, when I walk into that White House to help President Trump,I will be doing it for you and for your family and for your future.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

JOSEPH R. BIDEN, JR. July 21, 2024 My Fellow Americans, Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation. Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We've made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We've provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today. I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We've protected and preserved our Democracy. And we've revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world. It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision. For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me. I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America. Bular
