If someone is not satisfied with any service or the product he or she ordered or bought, one can always go for a request for refund . For claiming a refund, one needs to write a letter to the responsible authority about the product and explain particularly which performance he or she was not satisfied with. The authority will then verify the customer’s claim and then process the refund procedure as per the customers eligibility. Although the refund request can be raised through verbal discussion, a written letter has a higher impact.

For many reasons, one need to write a refund letter.  Sometimes students who take admission to school or colleges, may need their refund and they claim to the school or college management. In those situation one should follow some tips to request for a refund.

First of all, the purpose of the letter should be mentioned. Whether it is a refund or reclaim the same service but in better quality. Secondly, the dissatisfaction should be clearly stated, like which particular area or service the requester was not enough satisfied with. Keep a sharp eye on your email inbox in the coming days and weeks, student loan borrowers. Buried amongst the spam mail and coupons may be the latest information on debt forgiveness.

The Biden administration has taken its next steps toward a solution for borrowers after his initial forgiveness plan was struck down in the Supreme Court in June 2023. The new initiative could provide relief for millions of Americans and even total cancelation of repayment for some.

Originally announced back in April, the White House said that , if implemented as proposed, the plan "would bring the total number of borrowers getting relief under the Biden-Harris Administration to more than 30 million."

Now, roughly 25 million borrowers are expected to receive emails with the next steps starting this week, the U.S. Department of Education announced on Wednesday.

“Starting tomorrow, the U.S. Department of Education will begin emailing all borrowers with at least one outstanding federally held student loan to provide updates on potential student debt relief,” the department said in an announcement.

The emails will also provide information on how to opt out if they do not want to receive relief. People looking to opt out will have until Aug. 30 to contact their loan servicer and will not be able to opt back in, according to the department. They will also be temporarily opted out of forgiveness due to enrollment in income-driven repayment plans until the department can automatically assess their eligibility for further benefits.

Eligible Americans will receive a follow-up email with additional information after the rules of eligibility and forgiveness are finalized in the fall.

"The rules that would provide this relief are not yet finalized, and the email does not guarantee specific borrowers will be eligible," the announcement also warned.

How will be eligible for relief?

Under the rules drafted in April, the Biden administration named four specific classes of borrowers who would be eligible for relief under the proposed plan. These include:

◾ Borrowers who owe more now than they did at the start of repayment.  Borrowers would be eligible for relief if they have a current balance on certain types of Federal student loans that is greater than the balance of that loan when it entered repayment due to runaway interest. The Department of Education estimates that this debt relief would impact nearly 23 million borrowers, the majority of whom are Pell Grant recipients.

◾ Borrowers who have been in repayment for decades.  If a borrower with only undergraduate loans has been in repayment for more than 20 years (received on or before July 1, 2005), they would be eligible for this relief. Borrowers with at least one graduate loan who have been in repayment for more than 25 years (received on or before July 1, 2000) would also be eligible.

◾ Borrowers who are otherwise eligible for loan forgiveness but have not yet applied.  If a borrower hasn’t successfully enrolled in an income-driven repayment (IDR) plan but would be eligible for immediate forgiveness, they would be eligible for relief. Borrowers who would be eligible for closed school discharge or other types of forgiveness opportunities but haven’t successfully applied would also be eligible for this relief.

◾ Borrowers who enrolled in low-financial value programs . If a borrower attended an institution that failed to provide sufficient financial value, or that failed one of the Department of Education's accountability standards for institutions, those borrowers would also be eligible for debt relief.

“No application will be needed for borrowers to receive this relief if these plans are implemented as proposed,” said the announcement.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said in a statement that the current administration made a commitment to deliver relief to followers and the department nearing the "end of the lengthy rulemaking process," leading them "one step closer to keeping that promise.”

“Today, the Biden-Harris administration takes another step forward in our drive to deliver student debt relief to borrowers who’ve been failed by a broken system,” he said. “These latest steps will mark the next milestone in our efforts to help millions of borrowers who’ve been buried under a mountain of student loan interest, or who took on debt to pay for college programs that left them worse off financially, those who have been paying their loans for twenty or more years, and many others."

Homeowners and renters in New Jersaey are eagerly awaiting news on when the next ANCHOR property tax benefit is coming.

While there’s no official word yet, based on past payments, it should be very soon.

The ANCHOR benefit , which will cover the 2021 tax year, was funded in the record $56.6 billion state budget that was signed earlier this summer by Gov. Phil Murphy .

Eligible homeowners will receive up to $1,500 and qualifying renters will get $450, and senior homeowners and renters will be paid an extra $250.

Last year, on Aug. 15, the state Treasury Department sent notification letters telling some 1.3 million residents that their applications for ANCHOR would be filed automatically. That was the kick-off for that year’s ANCHOR season.

If you don’t receive the letter, you may instead receive an application packet in the mail — green for homeowners and purple for renters — which last year were sent out at the end of August.

Those who don’t receive a packet will be able to download the paper application from the state website once the ANCHOR website is updated for the 2021 benefit year. Residents can then also check the website to see whether their application has been filed and if the benefit was paid or is still pending.

If your situation has changed, such as if you had a name change, a change in marital status or a change in living situations, you probably need to file a paper application.

Then it will be time to look out for your payment. Last year, the state said most people would get their payments by Nov. 1, which was notable because it was just six days before an election in which all 120 seats in the state Legislature, controlled by Democrats, were up for grabs.

The first ANCHOR payments were made by direct deposit on Oct. 12 . Then the Treasury Department continued sending out new rounds of payments, both by check and by direct deposit.

For the 2020 benefit year, the state paid out nearly $2.2 billion to more than 1.85 million residents.

There could be big changes for the ANCHOR benefit next year as it is coordinated with the state’s other property tax breaks — the Senior Freeze and the new Stay NJ benefit for seniors . That benefit isn’t scheduled to make its first payouts until 2026, but before that can happen, it will need to be funded next summer in the next state budget.

When does Texas tax free weekend start? Prepare with list of items for Aug. 9-11

Students and teachers who have returned for another school year can look forward to some savings with the upcoming tax-free weekend.

Texas' tax free weekend, which removes sales tax on school supplies and clothes, will be Friday through Sunday, Aug. 9-11. This will be the 25th year of Texas’ oldest sales tax holiday. Stores have back-to-school deals to help families.

The Texas Comptroller’s office estimates that shoppers will save $143.4 million in state and local sales tax during this year's sales tax holiday.

Malls like Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso will celebrate the holiday with Back-to-School events with activities for families, including fashion shows.

Here is what you should know about the upcoming tax-free weekend.

When is tax-free weekend in Texas 2024?

The 2024 sale tax holiday begins Friday, Aug. 9, and goes through midnight Sunday, Aug. 11. Qualifying items will be exempt from sales tax when purchased Friday and over the weekend. The holiday saves shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Most shoes, clothes and school supplies under $100 will be tax-free over the weekend. Shoppers have no limit on the number of eligible items they can purchase.

Senator JD Vance of Ohio accused Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota on Wednesday of quitting the Army National Guard two decades ago to avoid being deployed to Iraq and of exaggerating his service record to claim falsely that he had served in combat.

Both provocative charges amounted to some of the sharpest Republican attacks yet on the Minnesota governor, and appeared aimed at disrupting what has been a run of positive news coverage of the Democratic ticket since Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Biden as the party’s nominee.

The accusations by Mr. Vance, who served a four-year active duty enlistment in the Marine Corps, about Mr. Walz, whose career in the national guard spanned 24 years, also served to pit the military records of the two major party’s vice-presidential candidates against each other.

Speaking at the police department in Shelby Township, Mich., on Wednesday morning, Mr. Vance said Mr. Walz had effectively deserted his fellow soldiers to avoid serving in Iraq because he retired from the National Guard in May 2005, several months before his artillery unit received orders to deploy there.

“You abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq,” Mr. Vance said.

Mr. Vance based his accusations on a Facebook post from 2018, and a paid letter to the editor to The West Central Tribune that same year in which the writers, Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr, both retired command sergeant majors in the Minnesota National Guard, accused Mr. Walz of “conveniently retiring a year before his battalion was deployed to Iraq.”

The criticisms were first leveled by Mr. Behrends and Mr. Herr during Mr. Walz’s first campaign for governor.
