As going online has completely revolutionized communication, it is possible to accomplish so many things online. There is something on the internet that everyone can benefit from. But believe it or not, there are people who have lived without wi-fi to this very day. Have you ever thought about what their lives look like?

Reimagining Work Life without the World Wide Web

In the absence of going online, simple and speedy communication would no longer exist. Relaying and receiving messages would be a lot slower, so business transactions would definitely be affected. People would have to resort to traditional communication channels such as telephones and snail-mail. We all know how tedious both of these are. Business decisions will take longer to make, and ordering and delivering products will have longer lead times.

Without the Internet, digital media and marketing would no longer exist. Again, marketers would have to go back to older means of promoting products, such as direct marketing. Holding meetings would go back to physical spaces as video conferencing will no longer be possible without going online.

Yes, all of these methods are of a much slower pace, but surely people would adjust. They were able to thrive using those methods in the past before the internet was born, so they can do it again.

In terms of relationships and socialization, the non-existence of the internet means the disappearance of social media sites. Instead of searching for and adding old acquaintances, people would have to go the longer route of checking the phone directory to find them. Keeping in touch with friends across the globe will likely be as difficult, as people would rely on snail-mail to reconnect and have conversations. Without social media, keeping up with people’s lives will be close to impossible.

Having said that, going online is a double-edged sword. While its pros and benefits are undeniable, there is much to be said about negative exposure. Young people gain access to a host of data that may not be appropriate. Pornography is a profitable business, thanks to the World Wide Web. Also, cyber-bullying emerged as one of the top issues young kids and young people alike face. It’s true that the internet connects people, but it also disconnects them, depending on how it is used.

One could say that a life without going online could be more peaceful. Without unnecessary exposure to information, you may not even need to know, you could enjoy life in your personal bubble. You won’t have to obsess over something that’s not relevant to you.

However, with the internet, need-to-know news is made readily available to you. When something important is happening across the world, you won’t have to wait for your relatives from that country to send you an update through the post. You’ll be notified of all related news items the moment you are online. You could say that it’s the pace and speed of the arrival of information that gives the internet an edge.

At the end of the day, with today’s hustle and bustle, we have learned to treat the internet as an essential tool for going about our days. Taking that convenience away would definitely slow things down. While this sounds unattractive to some, there is an opportunity here to innovate and to come up with other ways to speed things up without going online. People would have to relearn new ways to shop, bank, and work on relationships. At the same time, brands will be challenged to meet people where they are when these changes occur. They have to be ready with an alternative experience that’s just as appealing.

The biggest downside of living without the internet is slower access to information. We would lose the benefits of getting updates on the latest news events that could transform mankind’s history at the click of a mouse. It would be difficult to know on the spot what’s been happening in other areas of the world. Communication during crises would prove challenging. We may have to wait for months on end to hear back from family and friends who are hit by calamities or political events. Bank and retail transactions would go back to brick-and-mortar structures, so the risk of experiencing long lines is high. Businesses would lose their online presence, as the website as we know it would cease to exist.

Dear Diary,

I just spent 24 hours entirely without the internet for the first time I can remember in my adult life.

I think there are two kinds of people who live with technology constantly in their face: people who freak out when they're forcefully separated from their devices or connectivity, as if their arm has been cut off, and people who feel really chill when they're forcefully separated from their devices or connectivity, as if they've been let out of prison. I've spoken to many of both kinds as I've prepared for leaving the internet, and thankfully I fall in the latter camp.

I've lost my phone for weeks at a time before (in my pre-iPhone days), and let my current dumbphone run out of charge numerous times, and I always feel at peace knowing nobody can call me and demand anything of me. I know it's really frustrating for people who do want to reach me, and I'm always in danger of missing out on a party or failing to make a rendezvous, but overall I feel like it's a positive.

I felt like school was out for the summer

The moment I reached down and unplugged the ethernet cable from my computer, I felt like school was out for the summer, and the simultaneous relief and boredom that last bell brings. I stood up, and I realized that I'd been anticipating this moment for ages, but for some reason I hadn't made any plans. It was a stark contrast to the hectic day I'd just experienced, which had culminated in a 3-hour, ultra-insane livestream of myself playing StarCraft and Minecraft simultaneously while Skyping with friends and playing jams in Turntable.fm.

I stood up, stretched, and then played local-multiplayer video games in the office for a couple hours, naturally. All that was missing was a beanbag and string cheese and I would've been 12 again.

To get my PC rig home I took a cab. Since Jordan, one of our video producers, was following me with a camera, recording this momentous evening, my cab driver asked me what we were shooting.

"Oh, I'm leaving the internet for a year," I said.

"Why?" he asked.

It was a good question, and he didn't seem to find my answer very interesting. Our conversation ended there.

I deleted the app, tweets unseen

At home I listened to records with my roommate and the peaceful boredom continued. I found myself really engaging in the moment, asking questions and listening closely, even more than if I'd just closed my computer or locked my phone, because I knew neither of those things could demand anything of me. Not tonight, and not for another 364 nights.

My first major temptation came the next morning, when I pulled out my iPad. I had forgotten to turn my iPad's Wi-Fi off for about five minutes after midnight, so I knew there were post-disconnect tweets cached on there. They'd be about me. They would stoke my ego, or maybe deflate it. I was very curious.

I deleted the app, tweets unseen. In fact, I've been keeping my internet-reliant apps in a folder on my iPad, so I deleted all of those. Twitch.tv: I'll miss you most of all.

I went into the office a couple times for various errands, and heard snippets of news, but didn't stay long. I'll let the second-hand information stream start some other day. I heard something about a "BlackBerry 10" and something about Diet Coke that I plan on searching for in the next issue of my daily paper. More interesting to me was hearing Joshua Kopstein talk about some of his first-hand experiences that day with the Occupy Wall Street crowd. I guess I'm a bit of a first-hand fanboy right now.

It's almost intimidating to have someone be that attentive to you

I spent much of the day catching up with a friend from out of town. He's actually a major authority on limiting phone-based distraction. He doesn't text, and his phone is often off. While I had to field a bunch of calls the whole time we were hanging out, he wasn't interrupted a single time by any of his gadgets. It's almost intimidating to have someone be that attentive to you.

The whole day was really refreshing. All my internet-based social engagement the day before had been about how what I was doing was "brave" or "insane" or "inspirational" or a "publicity stunt" or "stupid" or "a waste of everyone's time," as if I was planning on going on a hunger strike or basejumping off the Empire State Building. But while hanging out with a fellow Luddite, it felt like my undertaking is the perfectly natural thing.

I haven't settled into a rhythm yet. In fact, I haven't even made a new schedule for myself. I've done a little writing, a little reading, and a lot of chilling. I don't really know what the next days and weeks are going to look like. All I know is that so far I'm loving it.

What Would a World Without Internet Look Like?

A thought experiment

Not long ago, browsing the Internet, I happened to stumble on a list titled, "The Best Sci-Fi Books of All Time, According to the Internet."   Like most lists of its kind, it was subjective and far from definitive, but still, it represented an interesting challenge. As someone who reads for pleasure as much as for job security, I decided to finish as many of the titles as I could handle.

After completing over a dozen (and taking in many of the film adaptations) the following occurred to me: Not one of these acclaimed futuristic stories—at least none of the many I was exposed to—took place in a world with any version of the Internet. All instances of published media, daily communication, romance—all offline.

In part, this has to do with the constraints of narrative writing, explains the technology writer Clive Thompson. “A lot of science fiction was primarily focused on moving people and things around in exciting ways,” he says. “These forward-thinkers were using flashy visuals to hook their readers, while understandably overlooking non-sexy things such as inaudible conversations.”

And inaudible conversations are the bread and butter of the world wide web. As Jon Stewart once put it, the Internet today “is just a world passing around notes in a classroom.”

But my experience led me to an interesting thought experiment: How might we live without the world’s largest note exchange? Or, in other words, what would the world be like today if the Internet ceased to exist?

The easiest starting point may be to just look back at life before 1990—a time of landline telephones, 9-to-5 work schedules, and VHS-rental stores. But that historical reality doesn’t really answer the question, because in an alternate history, we wouldn’t have known what we were missing. “The Internet has so permeated our lives that its influence is becoming impossible to see,” says the philosopher Clay Shirky . “Imagining today minus the Net is as content-free an exercise as imagining London in the 1840s with no steam power, New York in the 1930s with no elevators, or L.A. in the 1970s with no cars. After a while, the trellis so shapes the vine that you can’t separate the two.”

For the sake of this exercise, though, let’s try. As an example, let’s look at the life of Brian Lam, the former editorial director of the technology site Gizmodo . In 2011, Lam quit and moved to Hawaii to found the gadget-review blog The Wirecutter , a move that redefined his professional relationship to the Internet.

“As a business owner, I couldn’t do what I do today without the Internet,” Lam says. “My team and I would be forced to live in a big market, probably New York. Consequently, I’d have less access to the outdoors, no access to the global talent I currently employ, and a narrower perspective.”

But in some cases, he acknowledges, the digital age hasn’t been as kind to workers. Rather than use the Internet to offer their employees more flexibility, some employers may use it to more easily exploit them, demanding more work or longer days without paying overtime.

In addition to blurring (or obliterating) the lines between work and home life, the Internet has dramatically changed our cultural conception of patience. “Without it, we wouldn’t expect instant gratification as often as we do,” notes Michael Calore, a senior editor at Wired magazine. “Not just the ability to get an online answer immediately, or same-day delivery. Because of the Internet, the anticipation of waiting for things is largely gone.”

When Steve Case co-founded America Online 30 years ago, just 3 percent of Americans were online (mostly academics). Before the web was invented, these early adopters spent less than an hour a week online (mostly email). Today, 85 percent of Americans use the Internet.

“We designed it to connect people with shared interests and ideas, to produce more durable offline relationships,” says Case, who’s now the CEO of the investment firm Revolution LLC. “We tried to level the playing field by reducing the cost to communicate and increasing efficiencies so that more voices and greater perspective could be found.”

How have those voices and perspectives changed, though? In a recent column in The New York Times , Sherry Turkle, an MIT professor who researches online behavior, argued that having the Internet in our pocket has fundamentally altered how we form relationships. She pointed to a recent University of Michigan paper that reviewed past studies on empathy in college students, and found a 40 percent decline over 30 years, with most of the drop-off taking place after 2000.

“Across generations, technology is implicated in this assault on empathy,” Turkle wrote. “We have found ways around conversation that is open-ended and spontaneous, in which we play with ideas and allow ourselves to be fully present and vulnerable.”

Lam has mixed feelings. “I wouldn’t be happy without the Internet,” he says, “but it does make me miserable at times.”

But antisocial behavior existed well before the Internet did. Thompson believes the ills of compulsive Internet use have been greatly exaggerated. “I’m not convinced it’s the epidemic it’s made out to be,” he says. “It’s called frequency illusion. In this case, seemingly obsessive phone use understandably annoys us, so we notice more than it actually occurs.”

“Truth is, we had this same argument with the telephone.” he reminds me. “That it would reduce total social encounters when, in fact, it facilitated more of them.”

Shirky, meanwhile, believes any attempt to separate the Internet from everyday life is futile. “The only credible post-Internet visions are all tied to civilizational collapse: zombie apocalypses, global pandemics, nuclear catastrophes,” he says. “The hidden message in all of those scenarios is that if the only way to convincingly imagine a world without an Internet is to imagine a world without civilization, then to a first approximation, the Internet has become our civilization.”

Without email, social media, and messaging apps, staying in touch with friends and family would be much more difficult. Long-distance relationships would be particularly challenging, as it would be hard to stay connected without the ability to communicate instantly online. People would have to rely on snail mail or expensive long-distance phone calls to stay in touch, which would be much less convenient than the instant communication we are used to with the internet.

In addition to communication, the lack of internet would also have a significant impact on entertainment. Without streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, people would have to rely on physical media like DVDs and CDs for their entertainment needs. Gaming would also be limited to offline games, as online multiplayer games would not be possible without the internet. Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram would not exist, so people would have to find other ways to connect with others and share their lives with friends and family.

Another major impact of life without the internet would be on work and education. Many jobs today rely on the internet for communication, research, and collaboration. Without the internet, people would have to rely on physical documents and face-to-face meetings to get work done, which would be much less efficient than the digital tools we have today. Education would also be impacted, as students would not have access to online resources and tools for learning. Online classes and remote learning would not be possible, so students would have to rely on traditional classroom settings for their education.

Overall, life without the internet would be drastically different from the world we live in today. Communication would be slower and less convenient, entertainment options would be limited, and work and education would be much more challenging. While it is hard to imagine a world without the internet, it is important to remember that people lived without it for centuries and still managed to thrive. Perhaps a life without the internet would force us to slow down, connect with others in a more meaningful way, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life that we often overlook in our digital age.

In conclusion, life without the internet would be a major adjustment for most people in today’s society. While the internet has revolutionized the way we live, work, and interact with one another, it is important to remember that we are capable of adapting to new circumstances and finding alternative ways to communicate, entertain ourselves, and get work done. While the internet has become an essential tool in our daily lives, it is not the only way to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. A world without the internet may be challenging, but it could also present opportunities for us to reconnect with ourselves and others in a more authentic way.

Do you ever get tired of facing the constant tug-of-war that exists between you and the web? High speed internet is an amazing tool that can contribute to our lives. But it’s also something that can quickly get out of hand in the home!

Several years ago, my man and I decided to live without internet for 12 months while we built the Mountain Cottage. And today, I want to share 9 lessons I learned in that time, both as refresher to myself and an inspiration to you!

Benefits of Living Without Internet

Before I get into this, I want to point out that I’m not anti-internet. At this current time, we do have high speed internet in our home.

I know from personal experience that blogging + no internet makes things very difficult. So I’ve developed ways and means of keeping things somewhat under control.

That being said, if I wasn’t into blogging, I seriously doubt we’d have internet in our home. Yes, I really do feel that strongly about it!

Let’s get into lessons I learned (and try to remain aware of today).

Lesson 1: Living Without Internet Gives You More Time in Your Day

As a homemaker, have you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? When we had high speed internet in our home, I faced this dilemma.

Where did the time go?!

When we gave up the internet, that all changed. Because I wasn’t cluttering spare moments with online activity, I discovered I actually gained about 2 hours per day. Time I could put toward resting, reading or learning new skills that could benefit my home!

What a wake up call.

Lesson 2: It Gave Me the Desire to Create with my Hands

When I gave up internet and my eyes and ears weren’t being constantly entertained, my creative side suddenly came to life. I felt like learning how to knit. I wanted to hand stitch new tea towels. My brain began engaging in a whole new way and everywhere I looked, I saw opportunities to create.

And I have to say there was something refreshing and rewarding about using my hands more often. I felt more alive as a woman and as a homemaker.

Lesson 3: No Internet Relieved the Pressure in my Mind

I never realized that having internet (and particularly apps on my phone) created a slight tension in the back of my mind. There was always a nagging sense that I should be checking the internet because…well…w hat if I missed something?If a blog reader left a comment? Or someone needs my help?

Slight though it was, this pressure went everywhere with me. When washing dishes, folding laundry, cooking a meal or even reading a book with my man, I felt the need to pop online and just “check on things.”

You can imagine how giving up internet nipped this one in the bud! Even though I didn’t really have access to the online world, I still felt pressure for the first 2-3 weeks.

I think it’s fair to say I was addicted to the internet, without even knowing it!

But after the pattern was broken, it felt wonderful to live without that weight and pressure in the back of my mind.

Lesson 4: Living Without Internet Gave Me a Sharper Mind

I’ve never been the type to retain lots of memories. But after about 12 weeks of living without internet, the memories suddenly came flooding in!

Somehow my head was clearer and my mind, sharper. Instead of dwelling on whatever I had recently consumed online, my own thoughts filled my head in a natural, healthy way.

My mind grew steadier and my thinking, more linear. Very interesting to observe!

Lesson 5: No Internet Lead to More Physical Activity

Not having entertainment at my fingertips, I felt “bored” more often. Which led to more physical activities out-of-doors!

I hadn’t realized that internet had inhibited my levels of physical activity. Even though I would often do a short workout in the mornings, I found myself getting even more exercise after we gave it all up.

I took longer walks. Explored more places surrounding my home. I spent more time in the gardens and received more fresh air and sunshine. The extra activity even helped me lose a bit of weight!

Lesson 6: All That Internet Stuff Wasn’t as Important as It Seemed

In spite of the fact that we didn’t have internet in our home, I was going in to our local library 1x a week to schedule new posts on the blog and social media. I also tried to do a weekly youtube release of our home build .

When you have an agenda and only a few hours to spend online, the important things rise to the surface. My blog posts (of course). Emails from family. Writing that friend back. Research for the next project we wanted to do on our land.

All those youtube videos from my favorite online personalities? The bloggers I’d faithfully followed? Scrolling on social media? Things I’d just pop online to check 1-2x a day?

I realized these things just weren’t as important as I thought. Because my life (and blog) went on just fine without them!

Lesson 7: No Internet Created More Intimacy in My Marriage

Before we gave up internet, I would have said that I have a close relationship with my man. He’s one of the best gifts God has given to me, and I like him more than anyone in the world!

Before we did our year without internet, I also would have told you that having Wi-fi in our home really didn’t effect our closeness as a couple.

Boy was I wrong! At the end of the year, we both looked back and realized that living without internet had done something special in us. We had spent far more time together. Real, quality, engaged time!

Instead of having our faces buried in a screen after supper and giving a half-hearted “ uh-huh” to the other person’s questions or comments, we read books together. Played games together. Planned together. Took walks together. Worked together.

There was an engagement and focus on one another that hadn’t previously existed. And we liked it a lot!

Lesson 8: It Revealed Our Need for Other People

Internet didn’t just effect our marriage! Living without screens in our lives, we notice that we wanted to be with other people more often.

In spite of the fact that I’m an introvert, I felt that something was missing if we didn’t see other folks at least 2-3x per week.

It was the natural outcome of living without internet.

What a wake up call it was! Neither of us wanted to live a life where screens shoved other people out. And we knew that if we returned to the internet scene, we needed to make sure other people still had priority in our lives.

Lesson 9: I Had More Internal Peace

As I look back over that time, I realize I felt more in tune to myself. Instead of filling my day and head with internet stuff, things slowed down. And I was in touch with my thoughts, feelings and the inner workings of my soul in a whole new way.

And I have to say it: I felt more at peace than I had in a long time. Yes, we were working hard to build the Mountain Cottage. Working our fingers to the bone! But part of the reason that time was so special is because we lived without internet.

In Conclusion

One of the benefits of running a blog is that it’s also a documentation of my life. Living with internet once again, I find it helpful to return to the lessons I learned in the past.

And if I’m perfectly honest, there’s still a part of me that wants to rip all the “internet riggings” out of our home and once again live in that quiet simplicity. I want to live in that space where it’s easy to prioritize the important things in life.

I do have a trick up my sleeve that helps. And I’ll tell you about that one soon!

But for now I just want to inspire and encourage you in your at-home life. And I want to ask “are you using your internet wisely, or is it stealing from the richness you and your family could otherwise be partaking of?”

We have to be so careful of the things of this world we have become so dependent on. I remind myself that only a few years ago we did not have internet. People lived without internet for thousands of years and we did just fine. It is not a necessity. Build yourself a good, well-stocked library with books on all sort of topics. Those will be your go to for information. And you can also call different people for information as well. I do that anyway. I make a telephone call to a plumber, electrician, etc. and I can get information from them that is often not even on the internet. Also, many organizations have booklets they give out for free to help people. And don’t forget about attending workshops. They can show you how to develop new skills and you get to meet new people. A hand written letter is a wonderful thing to receive in the mail and you can include a photo (a real photo!) and even a pressed flower, a recipe, or whatever will fit in a little envelope or even a parcel. A slower life can be a much more peaceful life and we realize what is important in our lives.

Reading your post, as I am trying to figure out this same thing, I was drawn to the idea of a snail mail newsletter for homemakers. Something we could savor and read, yet not be online. A way to write in an article to “contribute” or just a way to connect with other like minded women….but not online.

My husband works from home so we have to have internet, but the cord strapped down to the floor that goes across the LR to my computer?? I want to make plans for how I can remove this and go to the library in town once a week to post on my blog. It seems like scary yet the freedom as you describe of gaining time back to do my basket weaving, crocheting, actually iron my husband’s shirts….hmm.

Because you lived in a quiet zone, where Wi-Fi is both unavailable and banned and where cellphone signals are nonexistent.

GREEN BANK, W.Va. — Viral dance memes and dance challenges on TikTok largely bypass Green Bank, W.Va. So do viral sensations like augmented reality filters on Snapchat and Instagram. And when a Facebook fad had people all over the globe dumping ice water on their heads a few summers ago, Charity Warder, now a senior at Pocahontas County High School, was late to the game. Sure, Charity has an iPhone, but she uses it mostly as a clock and a calculator. She makes phone calls from a landline, and she rarely texts her friends. Texting and driving? “It’s not a thing here,” she said. When Charity wants to get online at home, she sits at her family’s desktop computer, which has a broadband connection that is so sluggish, it takes minutes to load a YouTube video. “We fight over the computer,” said Charity, 18. “That’s actually a thing here.”

A World Without Internet

This essay will speculate on the societal, economic, and technological impacts of a world without internet. It will discuss how the absence of internet connectivity would affect communication, information access, business operations, and social interactions. How it works

On the street is the 21st century. Almost all people on our planet have access to the Internet. And they are actively using it. But they forget that they use it almost around the clock. From watching the weather in the morning to texting on social media in the evening. Instead of writing an essay by hand, a modern student simply downloads it. As the BBC notes, the network was a curiosity, it was used mainly in the West. Now more than four billion people have the Internet, and this number is increasing by ten people every second. According to a survey by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) * (published on January 27, 2016), 87% of Russians believe that, in general, the invention of the Internet has brought people more good than bad, 10% found it difficult to answer, and only 3% believe that on the Internet more bad than good. As the positive aspects of the Internet, 60% of respondents noted:

• “a lot of useful and publicly available information”,
• 31% – “ample opportunities for communication between people”,
• 8% – “entertainment, new forms of leisure activities”,
• another 8% – “quick access to information “,
• 7% -” new opportunities for work, study “,
• 6% -” broadening one’s horizons “,
• 4% -” the possibility of remote purchases, paying bills “

• Using the Internet to manipulate the minds of children and adolescents (propaganda of extremist, antisocial behavior, suicides, involvement in dangerous games). “Unfamiliar friend” on social networks
• Security of access to the Network and theft of personal data by technical means
• Illegal collection of personal data of minors and (or) their dissemination in the public domain
• Viewing sites for adults

A world without internet

What will happen if, as a result of a global technical catastrophe, the operation of the Network is not only disrupted, but it stops working altogether? The world will be thrown into chaos. And it will be more serious than a small inconvenience. People will wander the streets, without GPS they will not know where to go or where to go, they will not be able to pay for food and clothes with their credit card. Offices of companies and institutions are returning to faxing telephone conversations, regular paper slow mail is replacing fast and convenient e-mail.

Electronic commerce will disappear, any business based on the Internet or dependent on the Net will cease to exist. The work of transport and power supply will be disrupted. What will happen if, as a result of a global technical catastrophe, the operation of the Network is not only disrupted, but it stops working altogether? The world will be thrown into chaos. And it will be more serious than a small inconvenience. Using a questionnaire, I tried to show the role of the Internet for my classmates and compare the data of their survey with the FOM research.

The data processing shows that

• the majority of the respondents spend most of their time at the computer;
• prefers communication via the Internet to real;
• cannot imagine his life without the Internet.

Everything in our life should be harmonious. Of course, thanks to modern advances in science and technology, our life has changed dramatically, but do not forget about such eternal values of life as direct, live communication with friends, walking in the park, reading a good book. In any case, the Internet can be used for good – to enhance your work, self-education, and close communication with friends.

Be it an office employee or a school student, everyone needs a phone to stay connected with their family, friends, work and school. If someone loses their mobile phone, it feels as if they have lost an organ. 

A hundred years ago, people wouldn’t have imagined that today, we will have so many gadgets to help us with our daily life. Life without technology seems impossible today, but one must make sure to strike a balance between depending on technology and doing their work themselves. Only when things are well-balanced, technology will prove to be a boon and not a bane for us. Otherwise, it wouldn’t take long for us to lose ourselves in gadgets and the virtual world and destroy our health and peace of mind.

Life Without The Internet

What would life be like today without the Internet? It’s an interesting question to consider. There would be no Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube. No Google, Bing or Wikipedia. There wouldn’t even be email. The Internet has become part of every single aspect of our life from relationships and communicating with family and friends, to education and business (all of us at Bask would be out of a job if there was no Internet). It’s safe to say that life would be extremely different with the World Wide Web, but how exactly would it be different?

We had a hard time trying to imagine an Internet-less world, so we decided to pose the question to our followers on Facebook and Twitter (of course we had to use the Internet to do this). Here is what we received.

These followers feel that either they or the world wouldn’t be able to handle not having the Internet:

Sydney, known on twitter as @SydneyyyGraceee stated “Life without the Internet would just be absolutely horrible. I cannot personally live one day without Twitter.”

Thomas, @thomascossey14 similarly replied “I don’t think anyone could survive without it to be honest.”

And @TylerGregory36 thinks “Honestly I don't think this world could make it without Internet”

Matthew @galligan_122 “The Internet is a global connection for business, social media, information, education ect. Without it the world would crumble!”

Other replied with comments that weren't as extreme, but they did feel no Internet would make life much more difficult, especially not being able to connect with others and access information as easily as we do today:

@ShinyyTweets Thinks that if there was no Internet, we wouldn't know what is happening around the world and that “Life would suck :P”

@jennyskes14 “In my opinion, nobody can deny the useful of the Internet in our life. It led people who had the same points to approach together… I think it's bridged the gap between human & human. The Internet provides to the people a huge fund of knowledge. Personally I'm a student & I use the Internet for many purposes education, communication, entertainment & commerce.”

Omar @Paxsonhr replied “In my opinion poor communications is a disaster for companies that import and export around the world, Internet is a tool today.”

@BenjaminArd feels we would be much less connected, “With the Internet we can know about friends and family that we otherwise speak with only on rare occasions.”

Without the Internet we definitely would spend more time outside. Maybe America’s health problems has more to do with the Internet than we ever thought?

Epidemics in depression & anxiety like never before I believe it stems from here. We weren’t created 4 cybership. Harry, @cow12377 simple thinks life without the Internet would be “Better so people wouldn’t be so fricking distracted.”

@SevenSilvasy put is this way, " If the Internet never existed, I think society as a "whole" would be benefit greatly from far more developed social & interpersonal skills…especially benefiting from a huge increase of face to face contact. For example, I feel there would be more "real like friendships" rather than that competitive obsession of how many "fake or imaginary friends one has on Facebook, etc" Instead of spending hours updating one's "status of what he/she just ate for dinner, etc" hopefully people would be able to LIVE more "IN THE MOMENT" with face to face interactions."

To learn new things, they went to libraries and looked through many books. Without the internet, we might spend more time with our families, telling stories, and making things with our hands. It’s different, but still full of fun and adventure!

Imagine a world where the internet doesn’t exist. You wouldn’t be able to click on a screen and talk to your friend who lives far away. There would be no online games to play with other kids from around the world. Instead of watching funny videos on a tablet, you might play more outside or draw pictures with crayons and paper. To talk to someone, you would either meet them in person or write a letter that takes days to reach them. Birthday wishes would come through cards in the mail, not messages on the phone. Shopping for toys would mean a trip to the store, not clicking on a website. Life would be slower and maybe a bit harder in some ways, but it could also mean spending more time with family, making stuff with your own hands, and having adventures outside. Even without the internet, the world would still be full of fun and exciting things to do and discover.

Imagine a day-to-day life with no internet. Think about how different things would be! Right now, we can talk to friends, find any fact, or watch videos with just a few clicks. Without the internet, we would have to do all these things in old-fashioned ways. To chat with someone far away, we would write letters or just call them on the phone. If we needed information for homework or were curious about something, we’d go to the library and look through books. Instead of streaming movies or playing online games, we’d borrow DVDs or play board games. It might sound like fun for a little while, like when the power goes out and we tell stories by flashlight. But after some time, many of us might miss the quick and easy ways the internet helps us. We would not be able to ask Google or Siri to answer our questions instantly. News would travel slower without online updates, and we would wait to hear about events from newspapers or TV. Shopping would mean going to stores instead of clicking buttons. Without the internet, we might spend more time outside, talk face-to-face more, and learn things from direct experience rather than just reading about them online. Life would surely move at a slower pace, and while some might enjoy the break from the constant buzz of online life, others might find it hard to manage without the convenience that the internet has brought into our lives.

A lmost all the world today , one of the important   essential  that  people  use  everyday without knowing is  using  the internet. The internet is a powerful tool that tells you what the weather would be like  outside  today , how your friends and family from out of town are doing, or searching up a simple  definition  of a word. But what would the world be like without the internet ?   S ome people would freak out just thinking about how would been if the internet have never existed. But in reality, people could and had lived without internet in the past.   But life without internet would be a lot more different than it is  today . For starters many more people would  communicate  face to face more. For example ,  the social network Facebook, people post photos of their  newb orn  child, how they spend the day in the park, or tell other happy birthday through the internet. Without the internet, people would met up in a public or in a party, they would be more verbal about how their everyday life went.  People  would not know what happen to person life .   I nstead of reading a couple of text on their screen, they would be more cooperative to each other, would met up more, have long phone calls with each other. Email wouldn’t exist anymore. Email means internet mail. Without the internet, there will be no email. Of course people would still do the old fashion way of sending a postcard to each other to  communicate , and it will take longer to responded but people did send mail through pigeons back in the 1900s. People would rely on books for almost everything. Student main resource today when finding out an answer that they need or need to learn use the internet to aid them. Without the internet, student would go the local library and find a book about the subject they need to do. E  ven at the time of the internet, people rely  heavely  on books.   Also more  dictionary  would be used more. A simple person could find a  defin i tion  of a word by using the  website Google to search the word up . But before the internet people would buy a dictionary to help them either write an essay or a  definition  of a word. Most the technology today that we use was help by the internet. People wouldn’t have the highest class end phones,  TV , or laptop anymore. People would be using a regular phone that only makes calls and text message. P eople  would have a regular  TV  that only show two local channel. People  woul d  have a  typewriter  instead of a computer. In this world today, people do not realize how powerful the internet help them in their life. The internet gave them an advantage of life when people didn’t have the  acce ss  of the internet at a time. Without the internet, I wouldn’t be typing this essay. The internet gave us a new way to live a simple life.

I think you are young which is lovely but the internet has only been around 16 years. I assure life without the internet was not at you describe, it was boring, we knew so little about the world. We relied on newspapers or books which you had to buy and they were censored or written from one point of view only. Few wrote letters or even postcards. The internet is wonderful, dozens of points of view, millions of images, some much information at the touch of a button. No visiting a library with restricted hours, limited books I am over 70 yrs and have no idea how I existed or worked before. it.
