short and sweet movie review

Shubham Production’s Sshort And Ssweet (Marathi) is about a young man who longs to meet his father, but when he finally does meet him, it’s a question of whether he will be able to accept him as a father.

Sanju (Harshad Atkari) has been brought up by his mother, Tanvi (Sonali Kulkarni). He yearns to meet his father. One day, when he does come face-to-face with his father, he is dumbfounded. Is he able to accept the man as his father? Why did his mother not reveal his father’s identity for so many years?

Swapnil Baraskar has written a story and screenplay which may have shock value but they lack the entertainment quotient. In a way, they are quite depressing too. His dialogues are okay.

Sonali Kulkarni does a fine job as Tanvi. Harshad Atkari is alright as Sanju. Rasika Sunil, Shridhar Watsar, Onkar Bhojane, Tushar Khair and Ajit Bhure provide average support.

Ganesh Dinkar Kadam’s direction is so-so. Santosh Mulekar’s music is functional while his background score is okay. Mangesh Kangne’s lyrics are alright. Rahul Janardhan Jadhav’s camerawork is average. Anant Sutar’s art direction is nothing to shout about. Deepak Marou’s editing is loose.

On the whole, Sshort And Ssweet is a flop show.

Released on 3-11-’23 at Plaza (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru August Entertainment. Publicity & opening: weak.

Short, sweet -- that's my movie career

short and sweet movie review

Now I know why directors have so many takes and retakes in movies. Thanks to that, I finally have a movie career. Better yet, I even have a speaking part.

I had two words make the big screen: "That's right.'' How that happened is a product of a director's diligence.

Last fall, I was summoned to Boston to be part of the movie, "The Game Plan," a Disney comedy scheduled for release Sept. 28 featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, a former college football player. It's amazing enough to see my mug on a big HDTV screen, but to see it on the big screen at a theater is pushing it a bit.

My scene is in one of those news conferences in which producers bring in real-life reporters to provide an air of believability to a sports movie. The Rock plays an egocentric quarterback, Joe Kingman, a T.O.-type figure for the Boston Rebels.

Obviously, the Rebels are supposed to be the New England Patriots, but producers Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray didn't secure rights to use Patriots uniforms for a couple of reasons. First, the NFL licensing expenses probably were too costly. Secondly, they spent enough time around Gillette Stadium last year that they probably found all of Bill Belichick's spy gear.

Let's set up the scene. Kingman is an aging quarterback trying to win his first Super Bowl. That window is closing. One day, he gets a knock at the door. It's a daughter, Peyton Kelly, he never knew he had. Because of his ego and passion for football, Kingman was about as suited to be a dad as the Browns' offense is to score 24 points.

As he's getting to know his daughter and fumbles along in the relationship, he hosts a big restaurant party, leaves the restaurant, realizes he forgot Peyton and punches out one of the many photographers who capture him returning to the restaurant. Kingman has to explain himself the next day at a news conference.

Kingman and Peyton had to face an ambush of reporters. Director Andy Fickman assembled five of us for this scene. He told us the story line. From an acting standpoint, we didn't have to worry about motivation. This was the 2006 season and Terrell Owens was in the headlines every week. Put T.O.'s image over The Rock's face, and we're ready for acting.

This was Scene 49, and, as fate or scriptwriters would have it, this was the turning-point scene in the movie. It airs about 40 minutes into the picture. Not giving away too much plot here, but Kingman was trying to twist the perception about himself now being a good father. Peyton Kelly tries to win over the reporters with her wit and charm.

That's where your 35-year NFL veteran reporter comes in. Fickman called an audible and gave us speaking parts. We fired out questions to Kingman about his disregard for teammates and his daughter. I didn't need to carry a small snapshot of T.O. to prepare for this inquisition.

Because this was my first -- and probably only -- movie role, I am amazed by the obvious. The director kept ordering take after take. Johnson and Madison Pettis, who plays Peyton, had to nail their lines every time and did. A scene like this may take up only two minutes of the movie and only two pages of the script, but it often takes one day to shoot it because of the many takes.

A professional director such as Fickman is about as comfortable running a movie as Peyton Manning is running his no-huddle offense. He must be disciplined in getting the prioritized shots along with calling enough audibles to get a shot or two that sells that section of the movie.

The stand-ins had the toughest jobs on the set. They had to hold the actors' positions in order to make sure the lighting is right. Even during breaks, they had to stand. Peyton had a short, older woman sitting in her seat when she wasn't present. As the long day of shooting progressed, I wondered if Peyton had aged into an older woman during the shoot.

But it was that extra attention to detail that gave me the speaking part. My question was the third of about five or six impromptu questions. Knowing that Kingman shunned his team at training camp to do a toothpaste commercial, I asked, "Why do you treat your daughter as bad as you treat your teammates?''

The chance of that third question making it wasn't good. The director's cut turned out to be 2 1/2 hours. It needed to be 1 hour, 45 minutes. The quick pace of the questions added energy to the news conference and sparked a good reaction from Dwayne Johnson, but something has to go in trimming the length of the movie.

If you wonder why movies take more than a year to go from concept to seats, you have to understand that the editing process takes six months and is the key to the movie. Fickman does his director's cut in about three months. The final editing process takes another three months.

One of the great parts of this movie is how it's fast-paced and the timing is exceptional. That's a credit to Fickman. He was making a comedy. He has the timing of Dwayne Johnson and Peyton Kelly down to a science.

Imagine Fickman's job. He must look through every shot filmed. The volume is incredible, and who knows? Maybe he stumbled across Belichick tapes of Dolphins defensive assistants signaling zone blitzes that had to be edited.

Late in the editing, though, Fickman came across a shot in which I leaned back in my chair. Following his instructions, I was supposed to turn my disgust of Kingman's arrogance into a warm reaction to Peyton. They needed to show Peyton was winning over the crowd. As she spoke of how her dad was learning the father business and was going to be better, I muttered two words: "That's right.''

That's it, folks. That's my speaking part. Two words . To make sure it was audible, Fickman set up an audio feed so I could mutter the same words about 100 times in about 100 different styles. The words made the movie. I'm an actor ... kind of.

This was quite an experience. I spent close to an hour in makeup next to Dwayne Johnson as he quizzed me on Dennis Erickson and all of his other former coaches at the University of Miami. Because we hit it off, I almost got him in trouble for being late to a script meeting. For whatever reasons, Dwayne got the makeup and I didn't.

Short and Sweet

A look at the animated short films nominated for an oscar.

By Paul Constant

Short and Sweet

H ere comes a controversial statement. Are you ready? Here goes: Even the worst animated short film is more inherently watchable than a good live-action short film. This is because an animated movie creates a whole universe with its own internal logic; while short live-action films must spend most of their running time creating the world of a story, we can grasp the concept and themes of an animated film within seconds. The novelty of animation — a visual trick that our dumb monkey brains fall for, every single time — helps to usher us into a suspension of disbelief that far surpasses the spell cast by live-action film.

Happily, there's only one truly bad animated movie in this year's roadshow of Oscar-nominated animated short films. It's one of the additional, non-Oscar-nominated shorts included to fluff out the program to feature length — a French student project titled Catch It . In it, a group of meerkats try to get a piece of fruit back from a vulture, and the forced wacky hijinks only serve to remind audiences that for whatever reason, computer animation has never truly been able to capture the madcap elasticity of the hand-drawn Looney Tunes shorts that Chuck Jones directed more than a half-century ago.

The other non-Oscar films are flawed but well worth the handful of minutes they demand of your attention. The Short Story of a Fox and a Mouse is slight, but features one of the most handsome animated foxes put to film since Disney's dashing Robin Hood . The Loneliest Stoplight , directed by animation god Bill Plympton, is narrated by the titular traffic light (Patton Oswalt), who falls into disuse after a freakishly large freeway bypass is constructed a few miles away. If I Was God is a memoir about the weird power trip delivered upon schoolchildren when they dissect their first frogs.

Short and Sweet

The Oscar-nominated short films display a wide range of craft and topics. The most challenging and least successful of the lot is Prologue , a gorgeous hand-drawn short depicting a battle between Spartans and Athenians in a field more than two millennia ago. With its full-frontal male nudity and copious bloodletting, Prologue is the least kid-friendly film of the show, and its message — war is hell, and women have been putting up with men's shit for, like, way too long — is facile.

If you're an animation aficionado, you've likely already seen Sanjay's Super Team , the excellent Pixar short that was paired with the hugely dull The Good Dinosaur last fall. The most memoirish work Pixar has ever released, Super Team rewards repeat viewing with its complex juxtaposition of cartoon superhero imagery and faith.

Short and Sweet

The other three Oscar-nominated shorts on the program — World of Tomorrow , Bear Story , and We Can't Live Without Cosmos — are top-notch entertainment. Cosmos depicts the friendship between two cosmonauts-in-training with slapstick and a surprising tenderness. Bear Story is a gorgeous and heartbreaking film about a bear who peddles an autobiographical clockwork peep show to children.

Don Hertzfeldt's World of Tomorrow is the best film in the show, a science fiction story about a toddler who is visited by the time-traveling clone of the clone of her clone. Tomorrow repeatedly tosses off a spray of high-concept sci-fi delights — roaming moon robots who write poetry! — that would leave Kurt Vonnegut dizzy with laughter. In fact, I'd stack Tomorrow up favorably with most of this year's Oscar-nominated feature films; it's two hours of humor, pathos, tragedy, and high-concept crammed into a breezy 17 minutes. ♦

32 Really Great Movies That Aren’t Even 90 Minutes Long

Short, sweet, and spectacular!

Woody and Buzz in Toy Story.

Film critic Roger Ebert once said that, “No good movie is long enough and no bad movie is short enough.” Well we’re about to put that first half to the test, as we’ve got a list of films that pack a ton of quality into a running time of under 90 minutes. So if you want a good movie in a seemingly short time, the titles we’re about to share fit the bill!

Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams in Red Eye

Red Eye (2005)

Wes Craven ’s air travel thriller sees a seemingly cute encounter between two passengers ( Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy ) pivots into a taut fight for survival. In a short span of time, charm turns to cruelty, and flattery turns to fear, as McAdams and Murphy match wits while confined on an airplane. And yes, this is the same Wes Craven that made horror hits out of Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street .

Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O'Connell, and Corey Feldman in Stand By me

Stand By Me (1986)

One of the greatest Stephen King movies of all time, Stand By Me follows Gordie (Wil Wheaton) and his best friends on a journey through the woods. Of course, this is King Country, and this adolescent dramedy is a mix of bonding and danger, all sparked by a body found in the woods.

Fantastic Mr. Fox cast

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Wes Anderson ’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox is lighting quick with its wit and action. But believe it or not, this 2000s family movie /comedy gem led by George Clooney comes in under the 90 minute mark; which allows every gag and every set piece to really pack a punch.

Robert Hays in Airplane!

Airplane! (1980)

Surely the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams’ Airplane! isn’t shorter than 90 minutes? Well, indeed it is, despite this classic comedy being so packed full of gags the chaos feels a bit longer. And don’t call us Shirley, but do check out this parody of the very serious drama Zero Hour!

Colin Farrell looking out of the booth suspiciously while on the phone in Phone Booth.

Phone Booth (2002)

Colin Farrell goes through the worst day of his life in Phone Booth, and the tension is so spectacular that you’d be inclined not to notice that it’s a pretty brief run. Who knew that Kiefer Sutherland’s threatening voice, and the confined location that gives the movie its title, would be so effective?

Gary Cole as Bill Lumbergh in Office Space

Office Space (1999)

You may not have the minimum pieces of Flair, and you may have forgotten the cover sheet to your TPS report. But if you’ve got time for a slightly extended lunch break, you’ve got time to watch Mike Judge ’s Office Space .

Buzz falling with style.

Toy Story (1995)

“To Infinity, and Beyond!” seems like a long time. However, in the world of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story , it all happens in just a little over an hour. So if you or any other friends and family members need a shortcut to adventure, you’ve got a friend in this title accessible through a Disney+ subscription .

Franka Potente in Run Lola Run

Run Lola Run (1998)

If you think about it in the right context, you’re getting three movies for the price of one with Run Lola Run , aka Lola Rennt . As Franka Potente relives her efforts to try and stop her on-screen boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) from robbing a supermarket, each runthrough has its own challenges. Fate is fickle, and each pulse pounding variant makes up a third of this brief but fantastic film.

The Rope cast

Rope (1948)

Alfred Hitchcock ’s title as the “master of suspense” is absolutely enforced in Rope , as the director of Psycho and The Birds made what looks like a single take movie. Through clever edits, and taut performances by Farley Granger, John Dall, and Jimmy Stewart, this howcatchem drips with nerves and style.

Rob Reiner in This is Spinal Tap

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Prepare to crank your day up to 11, dear readers. This Is Spinal Tap’s classic mockumentary about the band that gave its name to rock and roll history is another member of this very specific club. Whenever you’re not laughing, you’ll probably be singing along to the stellar rock-based soundtrack of the band's original works.

John Boyega Attack the Block

Attack The Block (2011)

Believe, Bruv! Attack the Block lives up to its reputation as a non-stop crowd pleaser, and it does so in a relatively short length of cinema. Joe Cornish’s sci-fi/comedy, with John Boyega leading the charge, speeds along its merry way, with plenty of menace and laughter to spare.

Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder in The Producers

The Producers (1967)

How lucky is any director to have a feature length debut like Mel Brooks’ The Producers ? From start to finish Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder’s antics only get more frantically funny, with new players adding something to the recipe as they come on board. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted from the movies.

Brad Dourif as Chucky in Child’s Play

Child’s Play (1988)

At the start of Charles Lee Ray’s reign of terror, Child’s Play delivered a horror movie that actually hid his presence for quite a bit of its under 90 minute runtime. Even if you’re a die hard Chucky fan, it’s still amazing to revisit this suspenseful fright-time classic and imagine how audiences must have felt when the other Good Guy branded shoe dropped.

Lizzy Caplan in Cloverfield

Cloverfield (2008)

If you’ve ever wanted the Cloverfield timeline explained , a good place to start is the 2008 titan that started it all. Director Matt Reeves’ introduction to the world of Large Scale Aggressors kicked off an anthology/multiverse, and it did so with a close to real time struggle to escape New York.

Groucho Marx smiling during the mirror scene in Duck Soup.

Duck Soup (1933)

Between shorter lengths and black and white images, movies like Duck Soup are sometimes seen as quaint artifacts of a bygone era. And yet, the Marx Brothers legacy of lunacy continues to survive because not only did they understand comedy, they wielded that genre like an expert sword handler. Except replace that sword with a bicycle horn.

Belle with the Beast

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Falling in love happens pretty quickly in a Disney fairytale, and Beauty and the Beast only proves that. This landmark animated film that became the first of its medium to be nominated for Best Picture, it’s not hard to see just why that was the case. A tale as old as time, it has earned the place of holding such historic feats.

Satsuki and Totoro in My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

Acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki has been known to blend whimsy and realism in his films, with the results yielding classics like My Neighbor Totoro . You won’t be checking your watch as you get drawn into this gorgeous world, but trust us when we tell you it’s actually a pretty speedy movie. Heads up though: your plushie collection stands a good chance of expanding each time you watch this one.

Michael Jai White wears a serious look and a leather jacket in Black Dynamite.

Black Dynamite (2009)

Playing like an Airplane! style take on the blaxploitation genre, Black Dynamite sends up movies like Shaft , while also paying tribute. Michael Jai White’s title-inspiring crimefighter is one tough mother, but he isn’t above pulling some ridiculous stunts and gut busting dialogue.

Wallace and Gromit holding mugs of tea in Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the WereRabbit (2005)

Aardman Animation’s classic Wallace and Gromit series was built on short journeys into high adventure. So the fact that Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit went feature length, but didn’t forget its charms, speaks volumes to the benefit of quicker paced movies that do it right.

A little chick snuggles with its parent in March of the Penguins.

March of the Penguins (2005)

The good news is that not only is March of the Penguins adorable, it’s a quick sit. The bad news is that with all of the fuzzy cuteness and Morgan Freeman’s expert narration there are bits of sadness. So goes the world of nature, but that’s part of why this documentary is so impactful with viewers.

jack the nightmare before christmas

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Is it a Halloween movie? Is it one of the best Christmas movies ? Who cares when Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas runs only a little longer than a broadcast TV special. Only instead of commercials, it’s songs and striking visuals that see the adventures of Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon) clocking in a bit longer than traditional competitors.

The boys in Chronicle

Chronicle (2012)

Found footage seems to lend itself well as a genre for quick, intense filmmaking. Chronicle shows us the super adventures of Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell), and Steve (Michael B. Jordan), after they gain random superpowers. The scale and scope of this Josh Trank directed film made an impressive debut back in the day, and it still holds up.

Jim Carrey with mussed hair and a look of madness in Liar Liar.

Liar Liar (1997)

It’s hard to keep track of time when you’re laughing so hard it hurts. Already a blazing hot talent when he made Liar Liar , Jim Carrey delivered an amazing performance reminiscent of a Looney Tunes cartoon. So if you need a really good laugh in under half an hour, this recommendation should please the court.

Kristy Swanson wears a questioning look and a letter jacket in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992)

Before Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer became an iconic TV series, it was a movie that showed the world a very different version of Sunnydale’s protector (Kristy Swanson). Whether you consider it canon or not, you can’t go wrong with Paul Reubens goofing off as a vampire who seems to take a lot longer to die that his brethren.

Kevin Conroy in Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie, full stop. Operating in the realm of The Animated Series , this sub-90 minute drama keeps all the superhero action, and amps up the emotional stakes. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Dana Delaney couldn’t have done it better.

Orson Welles sits in a courtroom looking concerned in The Lady From Shanghai.

The Lady From Shanghai (1947)

Orson Wells’ noir thriller The Lady From Shanghai is a twisted web of deceit in which an Irish sailor (Wells) is roped into what’s supposed to be a fraudulent murder. The reality becomes something new altogether, leading to a literal funhouse maze of an ending, sharply concluding this criminal entertainment.

Mrs Frisby stands in awe in a cavern of candles in The Secret of NIMH.

The Secret of NIMH (1982)

Don Bluth’s animation style and panache are in full effect with The Secret of NIMH . As Mrs. Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman) embarks on an epic quest to save her sick son Timothy, her adventure into the worlds of animals and humanity is as surprising as it is beautiful. Lush and haunting, this is one of those non-Disney animated classics that just might surprise you.

Tyler Labine tends to Alan Tudyk's wasp stings in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. (2010)

You know the supposed mountain folk that are typically the menace behind any teen horror drama? Tucker & Dale vs. Evil challenges us to imagine a pair of such people (Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk) as a kinder, gentler sort of cabin dweller who just happen to have their supposed victims stumble into danger. In other words, you’re kind of rooting against the kids in this one.

Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station

Fruitvale Station (2013)

The true life death of Oscar Grant III (Michael B. Jordan) is chronicled in director Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station . Chronicling the last day of Grant’s life, this historical drama captures a real tragedy through the lens of cinema in heartbreaking detail.

Eric and Ariel about to kiss in The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid (1989)

Believe it or not, it may take more time to work out your rankings of the best Little Mermaid songs than to watch the actual movie itself. Though you could also use some of that time to argue whether or not “Les Poissons” deserved to be cut from the live-action remake; as this movie is the only one that has it.

James Woods in Videodrome

Videodrome (1983)

David Cronenberg is known for some of the most horrific body horror known to our species. Videodrome is perhaps one of the cruelest, as a television executive (James Woods) gets drawn into a world of conspiracy, death, and seduction. Prepare for some of the trippiest visuals, and a couple of gross outs here and there.

Bruce Campbell holding a lantern while walking down the stairs in The Evil Dead.

The Evil Dead (1981)

Hail to the king, baby! The Evil Dead runs a tight and bloody ship through its brisk clip, as Bruce Campbell’s Ash is introduced to the world of the Deadites. The most deadly serious of the series, the frights come fast and steady; even without as much quippy action from Ash in his origin story.

The next time you want to be entertained in a pinch, fear not, as there’s always a movie that could get the job done. Though if you want a really great film to accomplish that task, look no further than the library of wonders we’ve provided above.

Mike Reyes is the Senior Movie Contributor at CinemaBlend, though that title’s more of a guideline really. Passionate about entertainment since grade school, the movies have always held a special place in his life, which explains his current occupation. Mike graduated from Drew University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, but swore off of running for public office a long time ago. Mike's expertise ranges from James Bond to everything Alita, making for a brilliantly eclectic resume. He fights for the user.

One Piece Officially Teases a Big Development For Zoro That Will Fix His Disappointing Wano Arc

One of shonen jump's best-selling manga ever only has 16 chapters, & i wish everyone could read it, one piece episode #1111 release date & time, quick links, blue lock the movie - episode nagi works when it’s doing something new, blue lock’s animation is no better or worse in film, blue lock’s first movie fails as an adaptation, blue lock the movie - episode nagi’s pacing & direction ruin its story.

  • Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi fails to live up to its expectations due to poor pacing, lackluster animation, and baffling direction.
  • The film does offer some new scenes and increased character depth, but it cuts out significant content from the manga, leaving Nagi and others feeling shallow.
  • Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi 's poor production and direction make it a disappointing adaptation, even for diehard fans of the franchise.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi. Shortly after Blue Lock finished its first season, two new projects were announced to be in development: Blue Lock season 2, and a film adaptation of Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi . Episode Nagi is a spinoff manga centered around Seishiro Nagi, and in addition to showing new events, it also shows how some stories played out from Nagi’s perspective as a means of further fleshing out his character.

Unfortunately, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi doesn’t live up to its hype or the hype of Blue Lock , in general. The film isn’t without its good moments, mostly when it sticks to its premise of showcasing Nagi’s perspective, but through a combination of bad pacing, lackluster animation, and overall baffling direction, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi largely fails as both a Blue Lock story and an adaptation, in general .

Only someone who’s truly a diehard fan of Blue Lock is bound to get something out of the film, and even then, it probably won’t be that much.

Blue Lock’s Supporting Cast Gets New Depth

Blue Lock - Episode Nagi ’s biggest selling point is retelling the story from Nagi’s perspective, and Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi is at its best when it sticks to that idea. Episode Nagi features many new scenes with Nagi from before his time in Blue Lock, the most notable being Nagi’s first soccer match and the revelation that Nagi knew about Isagi from the very beginning of the Blue Lock program . Those moments do a great job of fleshing out both his character and Blue Lock , as a whole, and overall, they’re some of the biggest highlights of the film.

The increased focus on Nagi’s character also shines when the story finally gets to the Blue Lock program. Once the story got to that point, Nagi received even more development with the increased focus on his gradual growth into an egoist, and that leads to a complete reworking of one of his most selfish moments when it’s revealed that Nagi only abandoned Reo in the second selection because he thought it would help their shared goal of becoming the best . Moments like those were highlights of the Episode Nagi manga, and it was great to see them translated into animation.

Telling things from Nagi’s perspective also allowed for additional focus on characters involved in Nagi’s arc. Zantetsu receives a lot of development to explain his motivations for playing soccer and why Nagi and Reo care about him, and for Reo, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi goes into his perspective on Nagi abandoning him to show just how hurt he was by it , which made his attitude in their reunion all the more understandable. Moments like those truly make the movie’s hook of retelling Blue Lock from a new perspective shine, and they’re easily the best parts of the film.

Blue Lock Still Falls Short in Its Visuals

Nagi playing soccer

Unfortunately, the character writing is essentially the only place Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi shines, as is a tradition for a franchise that has redefined many shonen tropes . Everything else about the film largely falls flat. Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi ’s animation, for example, is no better or worse than the Blue Lock anime , as while there are a few moments of standout visuals and animation, most scenes are marred with lackluster visuals made even worse with still shots and ugly 3D models. Anime films typically have better animation than their TV shows, so Episode Nagi not having that is disappointing to see.

Episode Nagi ’s animation also spells a bad sign for Blue Lock season 2 . An uptick in animation was the biggest thing people were hoping to see in season 2 after season 1 repeatedly fell short in that regard, but if Episode Nagi ’s animation was only on par with season 1 at best, then that means Blue Lock season 2 might not have the improved animation people were hoping to see . There hasn’t been a trailer for Blue Lock season 2 yet, so it might be too quick to judge, but it’s a bad sign of what to expect, regardless.

Original Manga Written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro & Illustrated by Kota Sannomiya

Episode Nagi volume 1

Another point against Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi is how much it fails as an adaptation of the Blue Lock - Episode Nagi manga. While the biggest hallmark of the manga is retelling the story from new perspectives, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi cuts out a lot of the manga’s take on the story , whether it’s what Nagi and Reo were doing before Blue Lock or what they were doing during. Even for people who didn’t read the manga, it leaves Nagi feeling notably shallow as a character, and that’s supposed to be what the movie was avoiding.

Going off of that, one of the best parts of the manga was how it showed what Nagi, Barou, and Chigiri did after losing Isagi to Rin’s team, but Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi skips over everything Nagi’s team did in the second selection just so the film can end where season 1 did. At only 90 minutes, there wouldn’t have been time to adapt everything in the manga, but if that’s the case, then it would have been better to stop at a point that didn’t leave out so much content.

Blue Lock’s Film Ruins a Great Manga

Nagi in Episode Nagi

What ultimately killed Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi , though, was its poor pacing and overall direction. Going along with how the film cut out a lot of content from the manga, once Nagi and Reo get into Blue Lock, Episode Nagi speeds through the story to get to the same place Blue Lock season 1 ended , with the characters and story receiving no more depth than what was presented in the anime as a result. There are a few moments in the first half that avert that, but once the second half starts, things start to become incredibly tedious.

The poor direction of the film doesn’t help with matters, either. While there are a few creative shots and camera angles now and then, for the most part, the film does nothing different from the anime and even reuses shots from the anime at various points with little to no difference. Oftentimes, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi feels less like an adaptation of the manga and more like a compilation film of season 1 created to get people ready for season 2, and with how much the spinoff manga added to the Blue Lock franchise, that’s nothing but disappointing.

Overall, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi falls short in almost every regard. There are many good moments of animation and character work to be found, but the poor handling of the source material leaves Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi feeling incredibly shallow as a film, even though the point of the story is to add more depth to the franchise. Someone might get something out of it if they’re a diehard Blue Lock fan, but even then, Blue Lock The Movie - Episode Nagi ’s poor production and direction hardly makes it feel like it was worth the wait.

Blue Lock TV Series Poster

Blue Lock is a sports-centric animated series based on the manga series of the same name. The show follows the Japan Football Association trying to recover from their poor showing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup by hiring a football genius, Ego Jinpachi. With his new intense training regimen, Jinpachi invites the best football players in Japan to compete to become the team's new star player - and high school student Yoichi Isagi may be exactly who he's looking for.

So far so good…kinda

I wanted to give them 5 stars but they just shortened the videos per day from 20 to 15 without notice. I mean, I guess it’s still generous but not I have to wait longer. Also I think they upped the videos that don’t work with ads, you actual have to use coins to pay for them. One more thing, when the actors kiss, it sounds disgusting when they break the kiss, any way to edit that out? Now that I have the cons out of the way, here are some things I love. They have great content, although I wish there was more wolf stuff. You can basically see most of the content for free if you are patient. If you are extra patient you CAN see it all for FREE! The acting by some is extra cheesy but the fact that they are willing to act out the dialog that is written, is cool. Also, even though it’s new they have quite a bit of content. I hope they make more. I would even donate to have them make more content. That’s the thing, when a company isn’t forcing you to buy, to see their content, it makes you want to help them succeed. UPDATE: Guess what? Now we lose bonus coins we earned from watching Ad Videos after 5 days! Ridiculous why even bother checking in and watching the ads if you don’t plan on using the coins until your ready. I guess I should Watch something, use all my coins, and forget the app, which I’d hate to do because this company is usually pretty fair, what happened?

This app ate and left like 3 crumbs😌😂

I didn’t expect to enjoy this app as much as I did. The stories are so intriguing and I was a little shocked to see K-dramas. I do wish that some of the K-dramas weren’t voiced by English actors though. I prefer just reading subtitles. It gets irritating when the mouth and words don’t match. I’m not the biggest fan of the ad situation, but I also don’t mind it either. I wish every episode was 2 minutes long and that there wasn’t a recap at the beginning. I noticed there aren’t many shows but I don’t know how long this app has been a thing so I hope more are to come. Overall I love the app. The acting is cringe at times but not as bad as some reviews make it seem. I can tell there’s a low budget so I wouldn’t expect too much anyway. Plus I feel like bad acting can make shows funnier. Still this app eats every show it puts out. I get so invested off of just a trailer. I feel like the use of adds and coins brings back what it felt like to watch shows on cable TV. Sometimes the anticipation made the show better. I also loved commercial bathroom breaks. At least I’m not waiting for a 1-2 minute clip everyday. I only have to watch an ad.
Thank you for your feedback and we very appreciate that. Could you please tell us which show has the problem of discrepancy between the mouth and the words? We will convey your suggestion to relevant department and improve it. Please stay tuned for our new version. Thank you for your support.
Normally I do not leave reviews especially negative ones. These shorts are really entertaining and I ultimately enjoy watching them. However, I am very disappointed and upset that each “short” takes up a various amount of your coins. I started out watching every ad to get my coins for the day which landed me just over 230 coins. So I was a bit excited to watch more of the series I have been trying to get through. I figured that I would be able to watch at least 4 to 5 shorts (5 minutes or so of the series for the day) but I didn’t even get that. I was able to watch two which were less then a minute long. Afterwards it says I do not have enough coins. I would give this app a 5 star review if it wasn’t for the fact that somehow the price for each short adjusts based on how many coins you have. On top of that you cannot see the price of how much each episode costs until you are out of coins. Yesterday, the next episode said it was 58 coins. Today I had over 230 coins and was only able to watch two episodes? In other words one episode cost 58 coins and the next one took the rest. It seems like a major scam to get people to really fork out the money for the game without realizing what is going on. If the company fixes the issues then I will come back and update my review. If not my review will stay. Thank you for reading. Again this is not something I do in fact this is the first review I have ever done but I would hate to see people get scammed.

Russia Sends Waves of Troops to the Front in a Brutal Style of Fighting

More than 1,000 Russian soldiers in Ukraine were killed or wounded on average each day in May, according to NATO and Western military officials.

The rusted out top of a Russian tank with a tree, a green field and cloudy sky in the background.

By Julian E. Barnes ,  Eric Schmitt and Marc Santora

Julian E. Barnes and Eric Schmitt reported from Washington, and Marc Santora from Kyiv, Ukraine.

May was a particularly deadly month for the Russian army in Ukraine, with an average of more than 1,000 of its soldiers injured or killed each day, according to U.S., British and other Western intelligence agencies.

But despite its losses, Russia is recruiting 25,000 to 30,000 new soldiers a month — roughly as many as are exiting the battlefield, U.S. officials said. That has allowed its army to keep sending wave after wave of troops at Ukrainian defenses, hoping to overwhelm them and break through the trench lines.

It is a style of warfare that Russian soldiers have likened to being put into a meat grinder, with commanding officers seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are sending infantry soldiers to die.

At times, this approach has proved effective, bringing the Russian army victories in Avdiivka and Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. But Ukrainian and Western officials say the tactics were less successful this spring, as Russia tried to take land near the city of Kharkiv.

American officials said that Russia achieved a critical objective of President Vladimir V. Putin, creating a buffer zone along the border to make it more difficult for the Ukrainians to strike into the country.

But the drive did not threaten Kharkiv and was ultimately stopped by Ukrainian defenses, according to Western officials.
