Professional Resume Writing Service Cost in 2024

8 min read · Updated on January 15, 2024

Marsha Hebert

Your resume is arguably one of the most important financial documents you own

Most people don't think about their resume being a financial document. However, without it, you can't land your dream job to pay bills, plan vacations, or save for retirement. Hiring a professional resume writing service is often a great way to invest in your future.

The good news is that you don't have to shell out $1,000 for a resume writer. Of course, you can, but generally, the cost will be much lower than that. So, how much does a professional resume writing service cost in 2024?

Here are the main things you'll want to consider before you decide to hire a professional resume writing service:

The “why” behind hiring a resume writer

Scams, red flags, and poor quality services

The company or writer's reputation

Whether the process, including turnaround time, aligns with your schedule and expectations

How you will be expected to communicate with your resume writer

The professional resume writing service cost - of course!

Why should you hire a professional resume writing service?

It doesn't seem that writing a resume is rocket science. When you think about it, all you're trying to do is summarize your career for a new company to obtain a job. However, with the rampant use of Applicant Tracking Systems, or ATS , and the sheer competitiveness of the job market, hiring a professional resume writer can help you to stand in the sea of sameness.

Take the resume writers at TopResume, as an example. Each one has a wealth of experience, plus insight into how you can write an ATS-optimized resume and impress a hiring manager. On top of that, you can rest easy knowing that you'll get something that's specifically tailored for your career goals, based on your individual history.

Professional resume writers  are not only great at culling out the appropriate achievements from your career, but they have the right industry knowledge to ensure that your resume is relevant.

Here are some tips for when you're considering which professional resume writing service to hire:

1. Do some research - discover reputation, red flags, and scams

The first step in finding a great resume writer is research. Whether you end up hiring a company or an individual, perform some due diligence. Read reviews on third party sites like Google, TrustPilot , or SiteJabber. Don't simply rely on customer feedback listed on the company's website.

This research will help you to determine whether the person or company you're hiring produces high-quality resumes. Sadly, there are a lot of bad resume writers out there who simply rewrite the content they're given.

A bit of research can help shine a light on red flags and help you to identify scams before you fall victim. You're trying to put your best foot forward during your job search, so you want the company or person you hire to do the same. If you see the word “affordable” in pricing, you should probably avoid them.

Also try to find out whether you're going to be working with a specific writer within the company or if they outsource. Sometimes, writers will outsource their projects to freelancers via platforms like Fiverr or Upwork. If that ends up being the case, you could end up with a cookie-cutter resume that doesn't truly reflect your career accomplishments.

Not only that, when you work with someone who outsources your resume writing project, there's a great chance for communication breakdowns as the person who is actually writing your document has no access to ask you direct questions.

Make a list of a few companies you find that have good reputations and then make your decision based on the services they offer or guarantees they have.

2. Check out which resume writing services or packages are offered

Since your resume is only one tool in your job search toolbox, check to make sure the resume writing service you hire offers additional services. Most people who are searching for a job need a cover letter and an optimized LinkedIn profile . In fact, your LinkedIn profile is almost as important as your resume.

Does the resume writing service offer these additional services? You don't want to have to bounce from one writer to another just to get what you need.

3. Understand the resume writing process

Once you've decided on a company or person to write your resume, there are several how-it-works type questions you need to ask.

What is the turnaround time?

How much does the entry-level resume writing service cost?

How much does the professional resume writing service cost?

How much does the executive resume writing service cost?

Does the writer have any certifications, like accreditation from the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC)?

What is the resume writing service guarantee? Is there a guarantee at all?

How will I communicate with my writer?

Do I get any revisions on the resume produced?

You'll often find that the turnaround time is about 5 business days. That's because writers spend a lot of time on a single resume - well, the good ones do anyway. It can take approximately 10 hours to produce a new resume, when you consider the time spent analyzing your career history, having a conference with you to learn about achievements, and writing the new document.

One thing that's critical to understand is that most resume writers perform their services virtually. This means that you'll do everything via email, telephone, or video conference. The key, though, is highly collaborative communication. If there's a breakdown in communication with your writer, that's a huge problem and needs to be addressed right away.

You should always be allowed to make revisions and have some type of back-and-forth exchange with your writer. Even though resume writing services like TopResume employ writers who have experience writing resumes for a range of industries and professional experience levels, the writer isn't a mind reader. It's up to you to point out things that need to be corrected.

Communication is also important when it comes to leveraging any guarantees offered by the company. You'll never find a resume writing company guaranteeing that you'll get a job with your new resume, but you should see something in the way of a guarantee. Usually, it's a certain timeframe for landing interviews.

How much do professional resume writing services cost?

When you feel like you've found a couple of companies you could work with, it's time to dig into how much they'll charge.

Keep the old adage that you get what you pay for in mind when comparing professional resume writing service costs . You should expect to spend somewhere between $200 and $1,000 - sometimes more, depending on the resume writing service you need.

There are three basic ranges to consider when looking at professional resume writing service costs:

Entry level: This is for anyone new to the job market or someone who has less than 5 years of experience. You should expect to pay around $200.

Professional level: If you're approaching 10-15 years of experience, you'll need someone with more experience who can concisely summarize your career with relevant keywords. For this range, your resume writer will likely charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 - $400.

Executive level: As you might expect, someone seeking a senior-level management or C-suite position will need a more experienced resume writer. Executive services range from $350 - $700.

If you need a cover letter, professional biography, thank you or follow-up notes, or a new LinkedIn profile, the rates will be higher as each service is usually priced individually. Though many companies do have bundles, not all bundles will contain all services.

How do resume writing companies justify their fees?

Professional resume writing service costs are built around more than a person sitting at a computer typing words onto a page. It's about how much time is spent on each resume writing project. The average resume writing project consumes up to 10 cumulative hours.

When an order is received, someone has to make sure all of the documents, intake questions, and job target links are received.

The writer then goes through everything to compare what was received with the sample job links to formulate a plan of action. Sometimes this period of time also includes a conference call with you, the client.

Once the writer begins working on your project, they'll perform more research into your background and what prospective companies look for in job seekers.

After the first draft is delivered, you'll be expected to go through it with a fine-toothed comb to notate any revisions you deem necessary - remembering that your resume isn't a chronicle of everything you've done during your career but a summary of your achievements as they pertain to a particular job.

Finally, the resume writer reviews your suggested edits and acts as an advisor on whether the changes should be accepted.

Most resume writing projects take one week from start to finish, although some can take longer depending on how quickly you and your writer collaborate. But, if you want your resume to pass the 6-second test , having a professional resume writing service in your corner can be the difference between winning your job search and losing.

TopResume would love to help you through the next steps of your career journey. We have a large network of professional resume writers ready to work with you.

How Much Do Resume Writing Services Cost in 2024?

Marsha Hebert, professional resume writer

If you're considering hiring a resume writing service in 2024, you're likely wondering how much it will cost. The truth is the price can vary widely depending on your level of experience, industry, and the specific services you need. While some writers charge as little as $5 for a basic resume, others may charge upwards of $1,000 for a comprehensive package.

However, the cost isn't the only factor you should consider when choosing a resume writing service. A professionally written resume can make all the difference in landing your dream job, so it's important to choose a service that meets your needs and budget.

In this article, we'll explore the cost of professional resume writing services in 2024 and break down what you can expect to get for your money. We'll also discuss the various factors that can impact pricing and provide tips on choosing the right service for your career goals. Whether you're a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, this guide will help you make an informed decision about your resume writing needs.

Cost of resume writing service

Your resume is the first impression you make on potential employers, and investing in a professional resume writer can make all the difference in landing your dream job. Whether you can only spend up to $100 or find yourself able to invest in the $400 and up range, there are resume packages available to fit your needs.

As you consider your options, remember that a professionally written resume is an investment in your future. A well-crafted resume can open doors to new opportunities, increase your chances of landing an interview, and even boost your starting salary.

So whether you're just starting out in your career or looking to take the next step, finding the right resume writing service is an important step in achieving your professional goals. Let's break down what you can expect in different price ranges, so you can make an informed decision and invest wisely in your future .

Resumes up to $100

Despite the low price point, you may be surprised by the quality of services you can receive. From basic resume editing to customizable templates, resume packages in this budget-friendly range can deliver what you need. However, you have to be careful.

Generally speaking, any resume package under $100 is a red flag and should really be avoided. It’s really hard to find someone to write a quality resume for that price. A lot of cheap services on the web also outsource their work to inexperienced or low-quality writers focused on quantity instead of quality.

If you really don’t have the money to spend on a resume service, you’re better off writing it on your own with help from guides and other trusted resources. There is a ton of information out there to support a DIY approach: head over to the ZipJob blog to get started!

All of that being said, not all services in this price range are created equal. With careful research and consideration, you may be able to find a service that delivers a quality resume without breaking the bank.

Next, let’s explore the options available for resume packages between $100 and $400, which may offer a better balance of affordability and quality.

Resumes between $100 and $400

In the $100 to $400 price range, you can typically find a resume-writing service that delivers quality results without breaking the bank. With this budget, you can expect a professional resume writer to edit and optimize your existing resume or create a new one from scratch.

It's important to note that prices can vary depending on your level of experience and career goals. Recent graduates or those with little experience may only need a basic resume and can find a quality writer for around $100 to $150.

However, if you're an experienced professional or looking to make a significant career change, you may need a more comprehensive package that includes additional services such as LinkedIn profile optimization, cover letter writing, or job interview coaching . In this case, you can expect to pay a bit more, ranging from $150 to $400.

When considering a resume writing service within this price range, it's important to do your research and compare services to ensure you're getting the best value for your money. Look for a service that offers personalized consultations, a proven track record, and a satisfaction guarantee.

You should also consider the credentials of the writers, such as industry experience and certifications, to ensure they have the expertise to effectively market your skills and experience to potential employers. Stay tuned for more tips on choosing a resume writing service.

Resumes from $400 to $1000

When it comes to resume writing services in the $400 to $1000 range, you can expect a premium level of service and attention to detail. This price range is typically for executives, senior-level managers, and those with specialized experience or in highly competitive industries.

At this level, you can expect more than just a basic resume. Services in this range often include a comprehensive branding package that goes beyond simply writing a resume. This could include a cover letter, LinkedIn profile optimization, networking and interviewing tips, and more.

With a higher price point comes access to experienced, certified, and often highly specialized resume writers who have extensive experience crafting resumes for senior-level executives. These writers have a deep understanding of what hiring managers in your industry are looking for and can craft a resume that highlights your unique skills and experience.

It's important to note that $400 is the average price for a professional resume, and prices can go up from there depending on the level of service and expertise required. For executives, prices may be higher due to the additional time and effort required to brand a senior-level manager and highlight their unique value proposition.

Resumes in the $1000 plus range

While it's understandable to want to invest in your career and find the best possible service, paying over $1000 for a resume is often unnecessary and even downright insane. Prices at this level are often inflated due to factors like celebrity endorsements, aggressive marketing tactics, and overly complicated packages that may not even be relevant to your needs.

It's important to remember that the quality of a resume isn't necessarily tied to its price tag. In fact, some of the best resume writers may charge less than $1000 and still deliver exceptional results. It's always a good idea to research your options and read reviews before committing to a service at any price point.

Top 3 tips for choosing a resume writing service

Now that we've covered the different price ranges for resume writing services, it's important to know how to choose the right service for your needs. After all, you want to make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck. Here are the top three tips for choosing a resume-writing service that will help you stand out in the job market.

We also wrote a more detailed post on how to choose a good resume-writing service .

1. Do your research

Do your research to ensure you go with a reputable company. This is best done using third-party review sites and seeing what other customers had to say. Also, check to see if they have a contact number or live chat available. Not having a way to contact the company or the writer is a good sign that you’re going with a low-quality or outsourced service.

2. Choose how to communicate with your resume writer

How do you want to communicate with your writer?

To collaborate on a high-quality resume, you need to communicate with your writer about your past work experience, skills, qualifications, and the type of position you’re targeting. If the process is simply submitting your resume and the type of job you want, you’ll usually end up with something that doesn’t match your goals.

Different resume-writing services offer different communication channels. Many resume writers work through email or other text-based messages, but some offer phone calls, video calls, or in-person meetings.

Make sure your preference is offered by the service you’re considering before you buy!

3. Be ready to collaborate

Your writer can only work with what you give them. Many people make the mistake of thinking they can submit their outdated resumes and sit back while the writer does all the work.

You need to keep in mind that you need to put in the effort to give the writer everything they need. A good resume writer should be asking you details about what you did and where you’re going, so be prepared to answer any questions.

Investing in a professional resume-writing service can be a game changer in your job search. With the help of a skilled resume writer, you can highlight your strengths and achievements in a way that catches the attention of hiring managers. Remember that when it comes to choosing a resume-writing service, it's important to do your research and read reviews to ensure you're getting the best value for your money.

Whether you're a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, there are resume writing packages available to fit your needs and budget. Don't let a poorly written resume hold you back from landing your dream job. Take the first step towards success by investing in a high-quality resume writing service today.

If you’re wondering how much the average resume writer costs, then you’re in the right place.

We researched the prices of 90 resume writers to find the average cost of professional resume writing services in the US.

These are the results…

How Much Does a Professional Resume Writer Cost?

The average cost of a resume writer is $527, based on data from 90 professional resume writers. The cost of resume writing does vary significantly, from below $200 to multiple thousands of dollars. For example, we saw professional resume writing priced at $2,275, $2,450 and $3,000. However, these higher prices are typically reserved for high-end or executive resume writing.

Deals can be found if you’re at the earlier stages of your career (not an executive, manager, etc.) and looking for budget resume writing services.

For example, TopResume is a large, reputable resume writing service (and one of the resume writing services we recommend ) with writing services starting at $149.

What Determines the Cost of a Resume Writing Service?

When we looked at the cost of various resume writing services, we noticed multiple factors that seem to correlate with cost…

1. Location of the Resume Writer

Professional resume writers located in areas with a higher cost of living tend to charge more.

If you’re looking for a good deal on a resume writing service, you may be able to find a very skilled resume writer who simply lives and works in a less expensive city/state, and therefore charges less. For example, the typical resume writer in Milwaukee is going to be charging a lot less than in New York, even with more experience.

However, if you’re applying for finance positions in New York, you’re probably better off with a resume writer who knows that market! So be careful – cheaper isn’t always better.

2. Writing Experience

The next factor that determines the cost of a professional resume writer is their experience. Resume writers who have been working for more time tend to charge higher rates.

3. Certifications

On average, we saw resume writers charging $100-200 more than their peers if they possessed one or more professional resume writing certifications.

It may be worth paying extra to get a resume writer who’s certified by a large organization like the Professional Association of Resume Writers .

4. Add-Ons/Packages

For this study, we looked at just the cost of a resume, not LinkedIn profile writing or cover letter writing.

However, add-ons and extras did influence the average cost of resume writing that we found, because some resume writers include a LinkedIn profile or other extras with their “base” service offering for no extra charge. (Or another way of looking at it: You’re paying for it, but it’s already built into the price).

5. Notoriety/”Fame”

Some resume writers have been featured in large publications like Forbes, or have large followings on social media . This often means they’re quite busy and can charge more. More demand for their services leads to higher rates.

Whether these resume writers are the most skilled at delivering a great resume for your job search is a difficult question to answer. Some are among the best, and some aren’t. You should evaluate them the same way you’d assess any resume writer before hiring them (keep reading for tips on how to choose a great resume writer for you.)

The same holds true for lower-cost services. There are many good low-cost resume writing services online. However, some do not deliver a good result.

So here is our top choice for a low-cost professional resume writer online:

Low Cost Resume Writing Service: Our Top Choice

The best low-cost resume writing service we found is TopResume.

Their resume packages start at just $149 , which is a bargain considering how much experience they have in the resume writing industry.

We don’t recommend going lower than this price point for a resume writer, because you’re running the risk of getting a sub-par result or hiring someone without adequate knowledge/expertise to deliver an effective resume.

Resources for Writing Your Own Resume

One other option you have is to write your own resume. While this can be difficult if you’ve never worked as a recruiter or hiring manager, there are plenty of good resources online.

Now that you know the cost of professional resume writing, I want to leave you with some DIY resources in case you decide the cost is too high and you need to do this yourself.

First, I’d recommend this article on what to put on a resume. It will walk you through each major part of your resume and how to organize it.

Then I’d recommend reading these articles on the most important resume sections (where hiring managers look first):

  • Your resume summary paragraph
  • Your resume work history
  • Resume skills section

Finally, after you’ve written your resume, you want to put some of the same key info onto your LinkedIn. Most hiring managers are looking at LinkedIn even if you applied elsewhere. Here are 5 other reasons you should use LinkedIn , too.

Here are some of our top articles about LinkedIn to help you transfer your resume info over:

Is Hiring a Professional Resume Writer Worth It?

Now you know how much a professional resume writer costs, and you have some resources above that will guide you through creating a winning resume yourself if you’d rather not pay.

In the end, the choice is yours. There’s always some risk with hiring a professional. You may hire the wrong person, and get a poor result. However, if you ask some good screening questions, or better yet, ask your network to recommend a resume writer they know and trust, you’re likely to get a great result.

Professional resume writers stay in business for a reason – they’re often VERY skilled at translating your past experience and qualifications into what employers are looking for in your next ideal job.

If you have the budget to pay for the cost of resume writing services, they can be a very good investment for your career.

Every week you’re out of work costs you money (lost potential wages), and if a resume writer helps you land a higher-paying job, the service will essentially pay for itself.

The bottom line is: You just need to be careful in making sure you’re selecting a very good resume writer.

If you want more help deciding, we’ve published a list of our top 6 professional resume writing services here.

You can download the resume you create for $3 (which starts a 14-day trial for Resume Genius Pro), or $8 (which kicks off a monthly subscription plan). However, if you fail to cancel your trial before the 14 days are up, you'll be billed $25 every four weeks ($95 annually), according to the site.

Best free iOS resume builder

Resume star 2: pro cv designer.

Resume Star 2 isn't the most visually stunning resume design app for iOS, but it gets the job done. To use, tap each section of the resume, fill in your information and it will fill in a traditional template (you only get one layout). The app offers some example resumes you can start with and edit as needed, including job-specific ones for a: cashier, dental hygienist, receptionist, waitress, mechanic and senior manager.

You can add or delete any sections you like without needing to hit save every time you add in information, and you can see your resume update as you go. The autosave feature makes it easy to toggle quickly between the different sections as well. At the end, you'll have a basic resume ready to go. The app's interface doesn't offer as much guidance about how to write your resume or what types of information to include. If you need extra help, tap the information icon in the bottom left and choose the Resume Writing Guide. This will open up a crash course on resume writing in your mobile browser. It also includes a job search feature.

The app collects payment via donations after you use the service -- you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to. The app connects to iCloud, and you can export your resume as a PDF to any location on your device(s). If you are happy with the service, you can choose the $6 "helped a bit" tier, a standard donation of $10, or the "really helped me" tier for $25.

Resume Star 2 has a 4.8 out of 5 rating, and more than 1,800 ratings in the App Store . The first version, Resume Star: Pro CV Maker, which is the same except for the iCloud connection, had a 4.9 star rating and more than 16,000 reviews. The site does not collect personally identifiable information without user consent, which seems to make it one of the more secure options available.

Best free Android resume writing service

Resume builder app.

Intelligent CV's Resume Builder App offers 42 resume templates and allows you to change font colors. Each resume section appears on a list, and you can move through sections in whichever order you choose, save and go on to another. You also have the option to add, delete or rearrange sections such as education, experience and skills. There’s a Help icon in each section for a little bit of extra guidance. Once you're finished, you can download your document for free as a PDF, which you can then save on your device or send via email or text.

On the downside, the app is ad-supported and ads for other resume creators do pop up, which can get confusing. The app also offers less guidance than some of the other services, which means it's not a great option if you're new to resumes.

Resume Builder App has one of the strongest privacy policies of the bunch. The app does not collect personally identifiable information , though third-party services (including Google Play services and analytics firms) may collect information. The app has 4.7 out of 5 stars and more than 361,000 Google Play Store ratings and is free to download.

How we tested resume sites and services

When we evaluated the different resume templates and builders, we looked at how each site or app allowed you to create new resumes, browse templates or upload and edit existing resumes. We also looked at how easy or hard it would be to customize different templates and sections, how much guidance was available, how user-friendly it was to navigate, plus reading and understanding each company’s privacy policies.

Some of our picks are free, some enlist the help of professional writers and some require a subscription or one-time payment. When it comes to premium or paid services, we evaluated how inclusive its packages were compared to basic or free versions. In many cases for the professional writing services, these paid tiers included more guidance and additional job search support like cover letter and LinkedIn editing, suggested jobs to apply to and interview coaching.

Factors to consider when choosing a resume writing service

This was a key factor when compiling this list. Whether you’re looking for a free service to boost your current resume or interested in professional editing services, there’s something for everyone’s price range.

Ease of use

When looking at each website, we looked at how easy it was to navigate, browse templates, and add, edit or remove different sections. We also considered whether you can download and share your resume for free and in what format.

Customization options

Customization options were essential, as everyone’s resume is going to look different. Having easy user control over your resume helps you create a resume that meets your industry’s standards and showcases your professional experiences.

Privacy policies

Privacy policies were the final important factor to consider, as many of these are websites and apps that have the ability to collect and store your personal information. All of the services and websites included on this list have decent privacy settings, and we noted which ones have exceptionally clear use cases and account deletion policies.

How Much Does a Resume Writer Cost (And Should I Use One)?

Thinking about hiring a resume writer? Here’s everything you need to know, including how much it costs and whether it’s really worth it.

2 years ago   •   8 min read

Writing a resume is the first — and often biggest — hurdle in any job search. That’s part of what makes resume writing services so appealing — after all, if you could simply remove that hurdle, why wouldn’t you?

For starters, the cost of removing that hurdle might be steeper than you think — and we’re not just talking about money. But since we're here: Let's talk about money.

How much does a resume writer cost?

Standard resume writer rates are between $200-$300 for a basic entry-level resume and rising to upwards of $2000 for executive or senior-level resumes .

Found a much cheaper service? We'll explain why that's a bad idea later.

What determines the cost of a resume writer?

Why such a big range? Just as there's no "one size fits all" resume solution for every job, the cost of hiring a resume writer will depend on a host of different factors.

  • What stage of your career you're at
  • What kinds of jobs you're applying for
  • How many jobs you're applying for
  • Whether you're applying for more than one type of job
  • How much experience your resume writer has
  • How much personal input you want
  • Whether you're hiring a writer directly or going through a resume writing service

That's a lot to consider! Suddenly, writing a resume from scratch isn't looking that bad.

The cost of different resume writing services

Still curious about hiring a professional resume writer? Here's some insight into different types of resume services, what they involve, and how much they're likely to cost.

How much does an entry-level resume cost?

The good news is, an entry-level resume is going to be fairly cheap compared to other options — think around $100-$200. The even better news is, if you're entry-level, you don't need to hire a resume writer.

It might feel tricky to put together a resume without any experience, but all you really need is a simple resume template , a few highlights from your education, activities, or volunteer work, and the right skills and keywords .

How much does a mid-career resume cost?

If you're looking for a professional resume writer for most non-executive roles, you're looking at between $300-$500. This could be more or less depending on the exact length and nature of your experience and the type of jobs you're currently applying for.

How much does an executive resume cost?

For an executive resume, you'll probably end up paying $1000+ (and possibly as much as $3000). While that might not seem like much compared to an executive salary, it's still more than you need to spend. Instead, try investing a little time into reading an executive resume guide that can help you put together a professional-quality resume for a fraction of the cost.

How much does it cost to hire a resume editor?

If you're just looking for someone to help edit and polish your resume, that's likely to be a little less expensive than writing a resume from scratch — but not by much. If you only need a little bit of work, consider looking for resume editors who offer an hourly rate (and agree on the number of hours upfront).

How much do resume screening services cost?

Resume screening services shouldn't be expensive.

  • If all you need is a quick once over, you can upload your resume to an ATS resume scanner for free
  • If you want extra support, choose an ongoing service that can help you throughout the whole duration of your job search — you can upgrade to Resume Worded Pro for as little as $19/month.

More than you bargained for? That's okay! You don't need to hire a resume writer to get a professional-looking result.

How to DIY your resume for free

Heard the saying, “if you want something done right, do it yourself?” Unfortunately, that’s often the best advice.

If writing your own resume seems daunting (or simply too time-consuming), here are some quick steps to get you started. If you're absolutely sure you need your resume written by someone else, create a first draft using the tools below in just an hour — doing so will make sure you have a starting point, and will help you learn about what to look for when hiring a resume writer.

  • Start with an ATS-ready resume template . These templates are already optimized for resume screeners (both real and automated) and can save you time when it comes to structure and formatting.
  • Write your accomplishments in bullet point format. Short on time or inspiration? Here are some resume bullet points you can copy and paste.
  • Once you have a draft ready, upload it to a resume optimizer for a free resume review .
  • Make any changes suggested and reupload. You’re aiming for a score of 90 or above.
  • Tailor your resume to individual jobs by using a targeted resume tool, which will tell you exactly how to tailor your resume in less than five minutes.
  • You’re done! Congratulations — you just saved $500 and ended up with a better resume than a resume writer could have provided for you.

Here’s an example of an optimized resume that doesn’t require the help of a professional:

An example of an ATS-ready resume template that you can create without the help of a resume writer

Once you’ve created your first draft, upload your resume to the tool below — it’ll scan it for any glaring mistakes, quantifiable accomplishments, transferable skills and tell you if your resume satisfies the key criteria recruiters look for.

The real cost of hiring a resume writer

Decided to hire a professional to help you with your resume? Look out for these common pitfalls (aka. "Here's how to not get scammed").

The high cost of cheap resumes

Found a resume writing service advertising significantly lower prices than those listed above? Like anything in life, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Cheap services are often outsourced to beginners or to non-English speaking countries.

More money ≠ better quality

If cheap resumes are bad, more expensive services must be better, right? Not necessarily. There's a limit to how much bang you can expect from your buck, even from high-end services. Above a certain price range, paying more isn’t going to get you a better service, just a more expensive one.

You'll neeed more than one resume

If you think hiring a resume writer will somehow land you with a single, perfect resume you can use for the rest of your career, think again. Tailoring your resume to the job you’re applying for will net you better results than having a polished but generic resume, which means you’re looking at paying extra for each resume you need. Depending on how widely you’re casting your net, this can really start to add up!

The information on your resume may not be accurate

On one hand, good resume writers will always take the time to understand your background and represent it correctly. On the other hand, others may choose to take a shortcut and insert extra information just because it sounds good. If that happens, you'll most likely be caught and immediately rejected. It doesn't matter that you didn't lie deliberately — you're responsible for the information on your resume, so always check it thoroughly before you hit "submit."

Money back guarantees aren't always what they seem

Some resume writing services will offer a 'guarantee' as a way of putting your mind at ease. Despite appearances, this isn't actually a good thing. Nobody can guarantee that you'll land a job, or even an interview. In most cases, a 'guarantee'  only means that they’ll keep rewriting your resume if it doesn’t land you any interviews — but if they aren’t successful the first time, it’s unlikely they’ll magically improve the second or third.

It isn't 100% above board

Some recruiters might not care that you hired a third party to write your resume, but others may see it as cheating or plagiarism. If in doubt, it's best to make sure that all the materials you submit as part of the hiring process — including your resume — are your own original work.

The benefits of hiring a resume writer

It might sound like there's no benefit to having your resume professionally written, which isn't entirely true. It's more accurate to say that the costs of hiring a resume writer probably outweigh the benefits .

It can help you get started … but it’s not the only way

Professional resume writing services can help if you’re completely stuck, or if you’re looking for a raise or promotion and really need to optimize your resume. But even though they’re an option, they should never be your default choice. You can also:

  • Follow the steps above to write your own resume — it’s easier than you think!
  • Browse online resume examples for ideas
  • Upload your resume to an online resume checker to get detailed suggestions for revision
  • Get someone else — particularly someone who's working in the field you want to join — to look over your finished resume and provide some light editing or a final polish

Best of all? All these ideas are free!

If you’re not sure how to tailor your resume to the job you’re applying to, use the tool below to search for skills and keywords related to the job and it’ll give you a list of relevant ones.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a resume writer take.

You can expect it take at least a week or two. Want a rush job? You’ll likely be paying more for it and getting something that’s significantly lower quality in return.

What do resume writers do?

Generally, hiring a resume writer will involve:

  • The initial search
  • 1-2 phone calls with your resume writer
  • Negotiating and signing a contract
  • Follow-up questions through phone or email
  • Multiple revisions
  • Final acceptance and payment

If you're looking at hiring a resume writer who proposes skipping any of those steps, consider it a red flag.

How do I choose a resume writer?

If you do hire a resume writer, make sure they’re legitimate. You’re looking for people with a background in hiring or recruitment, and ideally in your exact industry. Resume writing qualifications like CPRW don’t tell you anything about a writer’s industry qualifications, so do your due diligence before you commit.

Always ask for past samples or to see a portfolio so you can judge the quality for yourself. Upload their samples to a tool like Score My Resume to get a transparent, AI-backed understanding of whether they’re any good.

Is TopResume any good?

TopResume is a resume writer marketplace with hundreds of writers, which means there are a mix of good and bad writers on the site. First, use the free tools at your disposal — like Score My Resume — to evaluate whether you need to hire a resume writer in the first place (you probably don’t!), and then set up a phone call directly with your writer to see if they’re the right fit.

Can you pay someone to write your cover letter?

Absolutely not. A cover letter needs to be personalized and give the hiring manager a real sense of who you are. If you can't be bothered writing one, you're still better off jotting down a couple of quick lines — or even skipping it entirely — than outsourcing it.

What if I get caught?

That depends. It isn't illegal to hire someone to write your resume or cover letter, but there may still be consequences. Depending on the views of the company and the hiring manager, they could:

  • Give you a chance to resubmit
  • Reject your application

If the information on your resume isn’t accurate , that’s always a big deal, and can result in you being removed from consideration or even fired if you already landed the job.

If a hiring manager thinks you’ve plagiarized , that’s ground for immediate rejection. Whether resume writing services constitute plagiarism is subjective, which means it’s probably better not to take that chance.

How We Chose The Best Resume Writing Services

  • We first sought out reputable resume writing services that tout proven results, and assessed whether the price, turnaround time, professionalism, customizations and guarantees meet our standards.
  • We then evaluated each service on our initial list side-by-side to determine which performs better at writing a robust resume in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Everyone has unique needs when it comes to searching for a job, so we made sure to recommend options that span different career goals and budgets, whether that includes getting career consultation or polishing up an existing resume.
  • All the services we recommend have a majority of positive customer reviews.

What To Look For When Choosing The Best Resume Writing Service

Resume writing services come in a wide range of prices, and the best options for you will largely depend on your needs and budget. Affordable services like ResumeCompanion offer a step-by-step process for building your own resume for $8 a month, while more premium packages like ResumeSpice provide consultations and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)-optimized, custom resumes for $479.

Turnaround Time

If your job application has a set deadline, take a look at the service’s turnaround time before committing. Most services take anywhere from two days to two weeks to provide a finalized resume. Some promise a draft in 24 hours, like Craft Resumes .

Ease Of Use

When deciding on a resume writing service, take a look at how easy the website is to navigate. Is it difficult to browse different templates, download your files or customize your resume? The job application process is often stressful, so a resume writing service should alleviate—not contribute to—some of that stress.

Customization Options

A resume needs to accurately reflect your unique qualifications, skills and industry standards. For this reason, consider which customization options the service provides. Many of our recommendations use writers, recruiters or HR professionals to tailor your application documents to your unique needs.

Writer Qualifications

With AI solutions like ChatGPT readily available, you’ll want to check whether or not your resume writer is qualified to provide the help you need. To do this, take a look at the service’s writer qualifications. Some services use writers certified by the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches (PARWCC) or National Resume Writers Association (NRWA), while others are run by recruiters or HR professionals.

Is It Worth Paying For A Resume Writing Service?

Professionally-written resumes through a reputable service can help you stand out from the competition. They’re often designed to highlight your best qualities, and are keyword-optimized for most applicant tracking systems. If you’re struggling with employment gaps or career changes, a resume writing service can help give you a leg up. And some services will also provide reviews for custom cover letters, Linkedin profiles, interview prep and career coaching.

How Much Does A Resume Writing Service Cost?

More basic resume writing services cost around $150, and typically include a professionally-written resume that’s customized based on your skill level and industry. Some services also offer cover letter writing, interview prep and career coaching. Packages that include these services typically start around $250-$300.

What’s The Best Resume Writing Company?

The best resume writing company is affordable, offers high-quality review and writing services and is easy to use. Our top pick overall— TopResume —provides the professionalism and quality most mid- to high-level job seekers need, from its free resume review to its customizable options.

In an increasingly competitive job market, seeking the best resume writing services is vital. While individuals and businesses still offer those services, some job seekers use AI resources as a shortcut. In fact, according to a recent study by MIT’s Sloan School of Management, using AI to help with overall help with resumes increased hiring odds by up to 8%.

Resources like ChatGPT are growing in popularity to help generate resumes and cover letters outright. However, many job searchers know that while they can use AI to formulate a generic resume for free, it is a tool that cannot fully replace a specialized, personal touch from a long-time professional. In this round-up, we review our choices for the best resume writing services to recommend the option that can best aid you in your job search.

how much do resume services cost

Best Overall: TopResume

Offers free resume reviews

60-day interview guarantee

Able to customize resumes by industry

2x more interviews or will rewrite resume for free

Limit of two revisions

Results might be disappointing if not willing to buy highest-priced package

TopResume is a popular service providing free critiques of existing resumes and a relatively low starting cost for a new and customized resume. The process works by first having you answer a detailed questionnaire and then matching you with an experienced professional knowledgeable of your industry who assists with customizing your resume accordingly. TopResume employs a network of 1,200 writers.

Your document gets carefully written to pass through applicant tracking systems, or ATS, to provide the best chance of getting your documents in front of a hiring manager and increasing your interview odds. In addition to resumes, TopResume also writes cover letters and LinkedIn biographies. You should expect your first draft back within a week. TopResume offers a maximum of two rewrites.

While TopResume aims to get things right the first time, the service provides up to two rewrites if you aren’t satisfied with the result; while this is a good start, those in highly specialized or less common fields may not have access to as wide a pool of experts as others. If you are willing to pay top dollar for the most expensive plan, your access to writers with specialist knowledge will likely expand.

TopResume’s pricing plans work for professionals at all levels, making it the ideal service for the broadest range of job searchers.

  • Pricing: Service starts at $149.
  • Turnaround time: Average of seven to ten days; possible 48-hour window if you pay to expedite service.
  • Customization options: Resumes are created based on the information you share in a questionnaire; you then get paired with a resume writer knowledgeable about your industry.
  • Writer qualifications: TopResume works with United States-based writers who have experience in human resources, career coaching, recruiting, and job search strategies.
  • Customer support: Support is available by submitting a contact form on the website, emailing [email protected], or calling 1-800-604-1929 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST.
  • Additional services: TopResume also provides cover letters and LinkedIn page biographies. Elite Executive Priority Package customers also get interview prep sessions.

Best Budget: TheMuse

Free resume templates and samples

Coaching is available for as low as $56

Options for all career levels

Job board with positions across various industries

Not a straightforward resume writing service

Slightly longer turnaround window than alternatives

No refunds for final resume or cover letter

TheMuse may primarily be known for sharing available jobs across multiple industries, but it is also a coaching and mentorship resource for job seekers. You not only have the chance to get your existing resume rewritten, but you can chat with a coaching professional by phone or Skype for 30 minutes; if unsatisfied, you get at least one round of edits.

In addition to tailored resumes, TheMuse provides coaching sessions, updated LinkedIn bios, and more. The service offers a combination of services meant to fit every budget and level of need. It’s easy to select only the features you need and avoid overpaying.

Although TheMuse provides valuable resume writing services, it does emphasize its coaching services over its resume and cover letter resources. TheMuse also works to update your existing documents instead of aiming to provide a resume built from scratch. If you already have a good foundation to work from, these services can be very useful for polish, but you may want to consider another service on this list if you are looking to start from the ground up.

Also be aware that you must be mindful of any errors in the draft as, aside from correcting spelling and grammar, no refunds get issued for final resumes or cover letters. You may be entitled to a single rewrite or unlimited rewrites depending on the service package you select. However, if you are simply displeased with the final version of the product for non-grammatical reasons, then it’s unlikely a refund will get issued.

  • Pricing: Packages with resume rewrites start at $139.
  • Turnaround time: Turnaround is about 7 to 14 business days.
  • Customization options: Resumes are tailored to your specific needs and industry.
  • Writer qualifications: Service tiers are divided based on the level of experience. Those at the “mentor” level have a few years of relevant experience, while master coaches have the most experience working with senior-level professionals.
  • Customer support: TheMuse website has a chat tool and a support ticket system; you can also email [email protected].
  • Additional services: Job board postings, career coaching, cover letters, LinkedIn profile updates, interview preparations.

Craft Resumes works with people worldwide, so they are ideal for people seeking employment outside of North America.

Let’s Eat Grandma’s main selling point is that it is not a budget resume writing service and is best suited for those seeking a premium, expert-level experience. Best for Federal Government Jobs: Federal Resume USA

Plans are specifically available for those seeking government jobs

Also provides resume services for military spouses

Plan options for veterans

Range of affordable plan options

Website is a bit dated

Payment plans and pricing a little confusing

Federal Resume USA is a resume writing service that is specifically tailored towards supporting those seeking government and military positions. It differs from practically every other resume writing business reviewed in that it is primarily government-focused. Federal Resume USA works with customers trying to obtain a government job or who are transferring away from federal and military roles and need a civilian or private sector-friendly resume. The pricing varies from around $100 for a critique to $300 for resumes tailored toward GS-14, GS-15, and SES PO positions, putting the pricing plans within the budget of most potential customers.

Though Federal Resume USA may be a service that is ideal for government job seekers, it is hard to ignore how dated the website is. It can be hard to distinguish one pricing plan from the next, raising the risk of customers accidentally opting for the wrong plan. Though the pages lack a modern charm, the service is well-suited to customers who want writers specifically familiar with creating resumes for federal government and military jobs.

  • Pricing: As low as $99.95 (for resume critiquing)
  • Turnaround time: Between three and five days; offers same-day “rush order” service.
  • Customization options: Can convert federal military resume to civilian or private sector resume.
  • Writer qualifications: Certified professional writers who have worked with more than 800,000 clients.
  • Customer support: You can contact customer service by phone or by emailing [email protected].
  • Additional services: Besides critiquing and writing resumes, the service also provides cover letters and thank you letters.

Following a phone call with your resume writer, where you further explain your career goals and further expand on your questionnaire, the writer will get to work on your resume. ResumeSpice shares that first drafts are usually completed within two business days.

If you aren’t satisfied with the final product, ResumeSpice will rewrite your resume at no additional cost. The brand will also rework your resume if you fail to get a single interview within 60 days of working with them. The Bottom Line

Resume writing services remain a valuable resource for job hunting, whether you are unemployed or presently employed and seeking a move elsewhere. For those lacking resume writing experience, these services can help you connect with someone able to take your work experience or accomplishments and present them in a streamlined manner while representing your best qualities.

Unlike utilizing AI alone, working with a person or team of people allows you to prep for interviews, acknowledge and work on any professional setbacks, and get used to comfortably collaborating with other people. The best resumes go beyond SEO and keywords – they empower you to self-advocate. The best resume writing services empower and coach you in ways only possible when humans are involved.

Things To Consider When Looking for Resume Writing Services

Hiring the best possible resume writing service comes down to a core group of considerations, each contributing to the increased odds of landing your ideal job. Here’s what to look for in a great service.

Experience level and writer certifications: You should aim to work with a writer with at least a few years of resume writing experience. Be sure to look for a resume writing service that is open about its writer’s qualifications and willing to showcase its team members.

Be wary of businesses that make lofty, general claims without any verifiable output or customer testimonials. As Sarah Johnston, expert resume writer and owner of Briefcase Coach, notes, “Reviews can be faked, and follower count is not a direct correlation of quality of service.” Popularity alone is not always enough to indicate future satisfaction. Johnston recommends a closer look at the process and an eye toward “how the company is extracting your career narrative.”

In addition to considering resume writing experience, opting for certified resume writers is also best for increasing your odds of getting a good result. Certifications through the National Resume Writer’s Association (NRWA) or the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) are the most widely sought and respected. If you are seeking a verified resume writing professional or service, check to see if they are certified through these or similarly reputable organizations.

Pricing and value for the money: Consider everything that’s provided as part of the service when comparing plans or getting a quote. Are you only getting a resume written, or will you also receive a cover letter? Will you be speaking to someone over the phone or via video conferencing? The more features that come with the service, the more you can expect the price to rise. That said, receiving a valuable series of services that will strongly assist you in finding a new job should be considered good value for the money.

Entry-level jobseekers with a small budget may be more concerned with affordability, sticking to plans that provide just the necessities. However, a senior employee seeking an executive-level role will more likely seek higher-tier premium packages that offer far more than a well-written resume. Good value for money here will include high-caliber coaching, extensive interview preparation, and ensuring their resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile are all flawless.

It is a good idea to aim for the best quality service you can afford, instead of prioritizing services strictly by which ones cost the least.

Combines AI with human expertise: While some services think of AI as something that could usurp their customer base, it has the strong potential to be a reliable resume-writing tool when combined with an organization’s pre-existing expertise and skill. Says Johnston, “AI can shorten the writing time, which, as a result, should decrease the cost of service.” As such, she says it makes sense for more price-conscious consumers to opt for a company that leverages AI.

Still, when it comes to AI, there should be a balance. For instance, some websites rely entirely on artificial intelligence or automation to construct a resume. You would input all the relevant information and generate a document. While that may be fast and convenient, there’s always the risk that you get left with something generic that doesn’t highlight your unique qualities as an employee or contractor. By working with a resume writing service, you are more likely to be paired with an expert who will showcase your best qualities.

Turnaround time: The turnaround period refers to how long it typically takes a service to receive your questionnaire, existing resume, or instructions and then return a first draft. The average time among top-tier resume writing services is typically 7 to 10 business days; some brands will skew slightly faster or slower depending on their experience, the type of resume work requested, or their workload. In some cases, especially if you only need a critique or a single-page resume, you might come across a service offering a window of one or two days.

Please note that turnaround time isn’t strictly about how fast you can get a draft back; it also demonstrates how thorough a service is with your case. When considering a resume writing business, you should know how long it should take to get back a first draft and how long it should take to complete any necessary revisions. If you are in a hurry, check to see if the resume writing service will expedite the process, but be prepared to pay an extra fee in exchange for getting your documents back within a notably shorter window.

Customization and personal approach: There are resume writing services that use the same formatting and font for virtually every resume they create, which could be an issue if your goal is to stand out. Having a resume that is visually forgettable and features the same jargon and keywords as everyone else’s will ultimately work against your chances of getting selected for a role.

To avoid falling behind, you should seek out a resume writing service that provides custom resumes and takes a personal yet professional approach to formulating your documents. For example, Johnston shared that she and her team spend an average of 15 hours on each executive resume. “The whole goal of a resume is to demonstrate to the reader that you, as the candidate, are the solution to their pain points.” Johnston notes that jobseekers have a habit of trying to tell a “kitchen sink” story with their resumes, throwing in everything without much regard to how naturally items fit. As Johnston puts it, “[Resume writers] help refine their messaging, so it resonates with their target audience.”

How We Chose the Best Resume Writing Services

At U.S. News 360 Reviews, our writers and editors combined consultations with industry experts, including a former recruiter and executive-level resume writer, with in-depth research to curate a list of high-quality resume writing services. We formulated a methodology based on the most relevant features that jobseekers often look to when deciding on a reliable resume writing service.

We considered affordability and value for the money, turnaround time, customization, and even what services are best according to where one finds oneself in their career path. With these features in mind, we narrowed our list down according to the resume writing services we felt best fit each category and so are most suited to your specific needs.

WHY SHOULD YOU TRUST US?

Our contributors and editors each have years of experience with product research and testing and are often directly knowledgeable of the topics they write for us. For instance, Toni Matthews-El, the writer of this article, has years of experience drafting resumes and cover letters. She not only wrote and critiqued resumes for numerous clients, but she also earned a professional branding certification through Randstad RiseSmart.

Even if writing your own resume or using an AI-based generator saves money, there’s a good chance there are crucial qualities you may fail to include because you don’t think of them as essential or feel awkward promoting your achievements. As Johnston notes, “The majority of people are quite terrible at tooting their own horn. It truly helps to have an external party unearth your story. “

A high-quality resume writing service is staffed by professionals who’ve spent years polishing professional careers to achieve the highest luster so your resume shines when placed in front of a hiring manager. And as competition for roles tightens, it will take more than the right keywords to impress. Many top resume writing services also provide interview preparation and one-on-one coaching.

Finding an affordable resume writing service that provides a low-cost first draft and at least one rewrite is very easy. While it is tempting to go the free route to save money whenever possible, premium resumes and cover letters help you put your best foot forward in the job market.

If you are worried about not getting the best value for the money, check confirmed reviews of past customers. You should also ensure the service has a money-back guarantee, draft rewrites, and is willing to provide refunds to unhappy customers.

Whether resume writing services help with cover letters usually depends on your purchase package. In researching this article, the author found that some services had plans that only created or updated resumes and other upgraded packages that handled both. Some services bundled resumes and cover letters, while others offered the items separately. Because many companies often request a cover letter with a resume, it is generally a good idea to combine both items when possible.

If you opt for freeware or a resume generator, then there is a good chance your resume is the result of automation or AI rather than an actual person’s work. If you work with a reputable writing service, then there is almost always at least one confirmed human behind the process, especially if the writer or coach emails you directly to begin putting the resume together.

It is important to note that top-tier resume services are increasingly using AI as part of the writing process, which isn’t something to automatically be afraid of. “If you are a price-conscious consumer,” says Johnston. “It might make sense for you to use a company that leverages AI. AI can shorten the writing time, which as a result, should decrease the cost of service.”

Johnston recommends seeking resume writing services that are transparent regarding how much AI figures into the overall process. “My company does not use AI for our document creation. I have concerns over data privacy and limited control over content. “

If you don’t like the resume the service writes for you, make a note of everything you have an issue with. Are there numerous spelling and grammatical errors? Highlight them and ask that they be corrected.

If it is a matter of incomplete or incorrect professional information, or dissatisfaction with the formatting, make detailed notes and ask if the writer can make changes so that the final product will be in line with your preferences. It is important to be aware of how many rewrites you are entitled to and to ensure that you make every desired change with the allotted drafts; a final version may not be entitled to the rewrites you desire.

If the problems involve poor spelling and grammar, you might be entitled to a refund or extra rewrite for an otherwise final draft. It is best to check the resume writing service’s FAQs or terms of service to know exactly what you are entitled to. If it is a matter of preference, there is a chance that refunds aren’t available. If that’s the case, your best recourse is to note everything you didn’t like in the first draft and work carefully with the writer to get it to align with your preferred version.

How Much Do Resume Writing Services Cost?

how much should a resume writing service cost

One of the worst mistakes job seekers can make is underestimating the importance of their resume. It’s central to everyone’s ability to build a successful career and pay bills. You can’t hope to get a well-paying job without a good resume, which means no financial security. How much resume writing services cost is nothing compared to the payoff.

A lot of job seekers also believe that writing s resume is easy. They spend an hour or so updating their decade-old resume and think they’re ready to apply for jobs. But that’s a losing strategy.

Such an approach doesn’t take Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) into account. And seeing as the majority of top companies use this technology to filter job applications, neglecting it isn’t something that candidates can afford.

There are many more reasons why hiring a resume writer is critical for maximizing one’s job opportunities. And luckily, it’s not even that expensive—you can get a professionally written resume for a very affordable price.

How Much Should a Resume Writing Service Cost?

The range of prices is extensive. How much resume writing services cost depends on the provider and the level of service you require. You can expect to pay as low as $50 to over $1,000.

Remember that a well-crafted resume can help you get your dream company to employ you. So, while it may seem like a lot of money to pay in times of limited job security, the potential benefits of a great resume are worth the cost.

Why Skillhub Is the Best Resume Writing Service?

If you don’t want to spend too much time researching the market of resume writing services, trust our expertise and go with Skillhub. We’re one of the leaders in the industry, and our writers will maximize your chances of getting employed. Here are a few reasons why Skillhub is worth your attention:

  • We have all the required certifications and a large team of writers competent across various industries.
  • Given the high quality of our services, our prices are more than affordable.
  • We have a friendly and reliable support team happy to help our clients anytime.
  • Skillhub is very easy to use.

Cost of Resume Writing Service

Interested in the cost of resume writing service providers? We’ve got you covered. First, you need to know that a lot of factors affect the price, such as the status of the service in the market, the qualification and work experiences of the writer, the client’s seniority level, how in demand the company they’d like to become an employee at is, and more.

But we’ve thoroughly researched the market and done our best to offer you a detailed explanation of the range of prices for resume services. This article will help you ensure that the service you’re considering isn’t overcharging its clients.

Cost from $400 to $1000+

There are quite a few services that charge $400 and up. Such a rate is more common for senior- and C-level resumes, but not always. If you’re willing to cash out, you can go with the resume writing price of $1000 (or even higher).

Keep in mind, though, that the price isn’t always evidence of quality. The most expensive service isn’t necessarily the most competent one. You can get a resume to help you land your dream job for less money.

Still, here are a few pricey services to consider:

  • Great Resumes Fast;
  • iCareer Solutions;
  • Scientech Resumes;
  • Exclusive Executive Resumes;
  • Find My Profession.

Cost between $100 and $400

This is a much more standard price range in the resume-writing market. Many great services deliver top-notch resumes that meet all clients’ demands for just a little over $100. Some of them, including Skillhub, are among the industry's leaders.

So don’t let the price fool you. A service can have professional writers (with all the necessary training and credentials) and deliver job-winning resumes in a matter of hours while remaining perfectly affordable.

Here are a few great options:

  • Resumes for You;
  • Resume Prime;
  • Capstone Resumes.

Free Resume Writing Services

There aren’t traditional free resume writing services. Even the most naive applicant can’t expect a professional writer with years of relevant work experiences to prepare an entire job application for them free of charge.

That being said, there are a lot of fantastic (and completely free) resources that can help you write a resume yourself. Some offer resume writing advice or templates; others give job seekers a chance to have their resume checked automatically for a surface-level analysis.

If you’d like to get some assistance with your resume without paying, consider these resources:

How Much Does a Resume Writing Service Cost?

Experts engage in heated debates when it comes to the question of resume writing services cost. Some believe affordability is key to equal opportunity (since a professionally written resume increases candidates’ chances by over 30%). Others disagree and argue that even a resume a job seeker has written themselves can land an interview.

As is the case with basically any industry, the resume-writing market regulates itself. Someone willing to pay over $1000 for a resume can do so. A more frugal job seeker can find a professional writer who charges only $100. But the “fair” price is probably between $100 and $300.

Average Costs for Resume Writing

The average cost for resume writing services is between $200 and $400. The number depends on such factors as the writer’s skills, the job seeker’s seniority level, the employers and positions they’d like to apply for, and so on.

Still, this is the price range for which most individuals seeking professional resume help aim. And it’s also where the majority of services fall. So if you’d like to get a well-written resume that will meet all of your requirements without costing a fortune, go with the market average and consider one of these services:

Entry-Level Resume Service Costs

One’s seniority level is among the key things that affect how much the services of a professional resume writer cost them. That’s perfectly understandable. Someone at the C level of their career has more accomplishments and work experience, and they’re also counting on a much higher salary. Their resumes also tend to be longer.

On the contrary, an entry-level professional (in any career field) can get a much cheaper resume. If you’re just starting your career journey, consider one of the more affordable services, such as:

  • Career Perfect;

Mid-Level Resume Service Costs

The average resume writer cost increases with the client’s seniority level. If an entry-level employee can get a well-written resume for a little over $100, a middle-level worker should expect to pay between $300 and $500 (or more). Their resume includes more data, and they can also afford to pay more.

So if you’ve been in the job market for a while and have achieved quite a lot, it makes sense for you to hire one of the more expensive services. They include:

  • Let’s Eat, Grandma;
  • Quality Resume Services;
  • Resume Right;
  • Written By A Pro;
  • ResumeZest.

Senior-Executive Resume Service Costs

Finally, a senior-level resume takes the most time and effort to write, reflected in the price. If you’ve reached the heights of your career and have a lot of accomplishments to impress any recruiter with, you’ll need to hire a writer for a senior-level resume.

Those are much more expensive than entry- and even middle-level resumes. You can expect to pay up to and even over $1000. But the end resume is typically worth it.

When it comes to resume services, the best options for a senior-level job seeker are:

  • Executive Resume Writer;
  • Get Hired Stay Hired;
  • Resume Pilots;
  • The Writing Guru.

Top 3 Tips for Choosing a Resume Writing Service

No matter your career field and seniority level, choosing the best resume writing service to get you happily employed can be challenging. There are many pros and cons to weigh and factors to consider.

To help you avoid choice overload and make a carefully thought-out decision when choosing a resume writer, here are the three key tips:

  • Pay attention to the certifications that the service and writer have.
  • Don’t neglect to check other clients’ reviews and testimonials.
  • Always ensure that the service you’re considering offers all the necessary guarantees.

If you do, you should be fine, no matter which service you trust.

Research for Service with Certified Resume Writers

You wouldn’t entrust your health to a doctor without a license, right? The same should be the rule in the resume-writing industry. Always choose a certified resume writer, even if this means that their services cost a little more than those of an unlicensed freelance.

There are a lot of relevant certifications in the resume writing market. The bare minimum every job seeker who’d like to invest in their career growth should expect are the Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and the Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC). But shy’s the limit. Some services, including Skillhub, have numerous relevant certifications, including the MRW, CARW, RWA, and ACCS (among others).

Check Reviews and Testimonials

No matter how appealing the website looks and the pricing is, never trust a resume writer before you’ve read their previous clients’ reviews and stories. The number one reason why a professional resume service is a good investment is that it helps a job seeker land a good job and negotiate a high salary.

But you’ll only reach this goal if you hire a reliable service. The resume service cost isn’t the only information you should consider. Look through other people’s reviews—and you’ll instantly know whether or not the writer is with your trust and money.

Check Resume Guarantees

Once you’ve looked through the reviews and decided that you’re happy with them, check the list of resume guarantees the service offers. If there’s none, you’re better off with a different writer. A service that doesn’t promise to increase your chances of landing good jobs isn’t trustworthy.

At the very least, make sure that the service you’ve selected guarantees the following:

  • An interview guarantee within a specified time frame (for example, a 4-week interview guarantee);
  • A money-back guarantee;
  • Unlimited revisions.

Otherwise, you risk ending up with a poorly written resume with zero chances of getting your money (and missed job opportunities) back.

Consider Resume Packages

One more recommendation can help you find a way around the range of prices in the resume writing market and get the best result for your money. Many resume services offer “packages,” fixed-priced deals that include a few extra features on top of a professionally written resume.

For example, Skillhub has three packages: Basic, Standard, and Premium. If you choose the Standard one (with a starting price of only $124), you’ll get a resume and a cover letter on top of all the guarantees. As almost any recruiter expects to see a cover letter in your job application, it’s a good investment.

Key Takeaway

Ultimately, there’s no uniform answer to the question, “how much do resume writing services cost?” As discussed, a lot depends on the industry, positions, what the service offers, and so on. The range of prices for resume services is extensive, which is clear from the varying averages for different seniority levels.

It’s all about setting the criteria that match your unique needs and demands. For example, one of the most significant benefits of Skillhub is that it’s highly competent and affordable. You can get a perfectly-written resume that’ll convenience your dream company to recruit you without breaking the bank.

Top resume services like Let’s Eat Grandma, ResumeZest, and ResumeGo have competent writers to help you fulfill your career dreams. But they’re less affordable, which is often a problem for candidates, especially those beginning their professional journeys.

Most importantly, remember that, despite the guarantees, a professionally written resume doesn’t mean you’ll land your dream job. A lot depends on the interview, salary expectations, and other factors. So it’s up to you to decide how much you will pay to perfect your resume.

How Much Do Professional Resume Writers Charge?

how much do resume services cost

We Explain How Much a Resume Writing Service Costs & Why

Resume writing services can vary widely in price. Top executive resume writers charge $750-$2,000+ for a resume. You can also find more affordable resume writing services that cost $150-$450. A service's fee structure tends to reflect the level of quality and client service you are likely to receive.

Given the hundreds of resume writing services available, we know that narrowing down the best option for you can be overwhelming – especially if you have never worked with a resume writer before.

In this article, we answer the following questions to help you understand how the resume writing industry operates and what you can typically expect from given pricing tiers:

How much does a resume writer cost?

  • Should I pay someone to write my resume?

Why should I be skeptical of “affordable” resume writing services?

What qualities should i look for in a resume writer.

  • What red flags should I watch out for?

You can expect to spend $750+ on a top executive resume writer or $150-$450 on an entry-level resume writing service. The fees a given writer charges are driven by their experience and education level, quality of deliverables, and amount of time spent on your document.

Experience and Education Level

In the resume writing industry, there is a close correlation between price and quality.

If you work with an experienced resume writer who graduated from a top university, you can expect their fees to be in the range that other professional service providers would charge.

To put it in perspective, accountants and lawyers charge between $75-300 an hour for their services. You can expect to pay a similar hourly rate for a highly-qualified resume writer.

Depending on where you are in your career and the quality of service you expect, you'll want to carefully consider who will be writing your resume.

Quality and Results They Deliver for Clients

Professional resume writers add value to their clients, and their documents can cut down the time it takes for you to secure a new role.

By choosing a reputable service, you won't end up with a low-quality document that leaves you frustrated and that you will ultimately have to fix yourself.

For best results, look for an in-depth, personalized writing process that includes a phone consultation and one-on-one communication with your writer.

Resume Writing Process

As Jenny Foss  explained in a LinkedIn post, "there is (quite literally) no barrier to entry [in the resume writing industry]."

"I reviewed quite a few 'expert'  resumes in recent days -- resumes that people paid money they cannot afford to throw away right now…. [they were delivered with] typos, grammatical errors, filled with cliches," she said.

To avoid disappointment, be sure to thoroughly investigate the company you choose to work with.

Amount of Time Spent on Your Document

You know how much time goes into preparing a resume.

It's simply not a quick process – and we wouldn’t recommend working with a writer who turns it into one.

Below, we outline how much time we devote to crafting a single resume: the end-to-end writing process takes the equivalent of a full working day.

How Long Does It Take to Write a Resume?

By nature, resume writing needs to be high-touch to be effective, which takes time.

Keep in mind that the value-add of working with a resume writer is not only their writing ability but also their ability to ask the right questions.

A service that relies on both written background materials and a phone consultation is more likely to result in a well-written, achievement-based document .

If you are only looking for copy editing or feedback on your resume (not an end-to-end rewrite), you can expect to pay less.

Should I pay someone to write my resume? How much should I spend?

Think of hiring a resume writer as an investment in your career. If you are having a hard time crafting your resume, are in a time crunch, or could use the help of a 3 rd party to help you identify what is most important to highlight, working with a resume writer can be a great option.

How much you spend on your resume will depend on how much you value quality and your budget.

We'll argue that it's worth spending about 1-2% of your annual salary on a quality resume.

To put this amount into perspective, consider that wealth managers charge (at least) a 1% fee to manage your investment portfolio, which typically provides an 8-10% annual return.

Would it be reasonable to invest 1% of your annual salary into getting a document that could very well open the door to a higher salary?

For either investment, results aren't guaranteed.

However, they are likely based on historical performance.

Simply put, if a writer charges under $200 for your resume, they would be making around minimum wage after taxes, business expenses, and marketing costs are factored into account.

It is just not a feasible pricing model.

If this business model works, it's probably because the company is either cutting corners or outsourcing its writing internationally:

Cutting corners

Some resume writers reuse significant portions of your existing content and/or do not provide a one-on-one consultation. Instead, all of your communication with your writer will be via email.

If you would like to work with a resume writer but don’t mind putting in additional legwork on your end, a lower-priced service could be an option.

However, if you are looking for a truly bespoke service that will add value by helping you brainstorm content and rewrite your entire document from the ground up, you may be left disappointed.

Outsourcing

Given their fee structure, many low-priced resume writing services outsource their writing to non-native English speakers abroad. While we don’t view this to be an ethical practice, it is an unfortunate reality in the industry.

If you come across a company that is quite inexpensive and does not allow a phone consultation, it could potentially be outsourcing its writing abroad.

When choosing a resume writer, consider whether they have relevant certifications, positive reviews, strong writing samples, and have worked with clients of your experience level.

Consider the following questions:

  • Is the company or writer a member of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches ( PARWCC ) or National Résumé Writers' Association ( NRWA )?
  • Do they have positive reviews from previous clients on third-party review sites such as Trustpilot and Google? Are there any “red flags” that clients consistently mention?
  • Are their writing samples reflective of the type of work you would like to receive? Do their formatting and writing style align with recruiter expectations?
  • Have they worked with clients of your experience level ? If you are a busy senior executive, for example, will the service have the ability to evaluate your accomplishments to best highlight how you drove results?
  • Who will be writing your document? Do they have a strong academic and writing background?
  • What does their writing process look like? Will you get to work with your writer one-on-one?

What are red flags I should be aware of?

We strongly advise steering clear of resume writers that charge rates that seem “too good to be true,” utilize tacky formatting , or do not have an established online presence with a proven track record.

Before you hire a resume writer, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does the amount you pay reflect a reasonable hourly rate given the caliber of writer you want to work with?
  • Do the company's writing style and design appear natural so the resume doesn’t look like it was prepared by a resume writer? Do their resume templates utilize excessive colors and formatting features that may put off discerning executive recruiters?
  • Does the service have a pattern of negative reviews?
  • Are you comfortable only working with your writer over email, if they do not provide a phone consultation?
  • Had the company been around for multiple years? Does the service have a consistent track record with a credible website and LinkedIn presence?
  • If the service is not a member of a qualifying industry body, what other factors attest to their quality?

About Professional Resume Services

Professional Resume Services is a woman owned company that offers resume writing services to professionals of all career levels, from entry-level to CXOs and board leaders.

Erin Kennedy , a highly experienced, multi-credentialed, and award-winning resume writer, founded Professional Resume Services in 2001.

Before she founded the company, Erin had been writing resumes and providing career coaching service since 1999.

Currently, Erin Kennedy has a team of certified and experienced resume writers, career coaches, and LinkedIn profile writers working with her at Professional Resume Services.

Let’s dive right into some of the pros and cons when it comes to working with Professional Resume Services.

Professional Resume Services Pros vs Cons

As with any company, there are pros and cons. It’s up to you to determine what is a “must-have” and what things you can live without.

  • 20+ years of resume writing experience.
  • 3 resume writing certifications including CPRW, CMRW, and CERW.
  • 8+ Toast Of The Resume Industry awards and nominations received.
  • Featured on Forbes, Flexjobs, Resumes For Dummies , and more.
  • Satisfaction guarantee is provided on all resumes.
  • Expensive resume service costing as much as $3,995.
  • Very few online reviews for a 20+ year old company.
  • Turnaround time is not provided on the website.
  • Website offers no information about the resume writers.
  • Information about the resume editing process is not available.

If you are looking for a resume writing service, Professional Resume Services is a good option, but it is worth exploring other alternatives to find the best fit for your needs.

One such alternative is  Find My Profession  who has a team of certified resume writers, has been featured on reputable sources like Forbes, Inc., and CNET, and includes a 60-day interview guarantee with all of their resumes. However, Find My Profession differs from Professional Resume Services in that they have a quick 3-5 business day turnaround time, are transparent about their writers, and resume services begin at $395.

Professional Resume Services Customer Reviews

quote icon

Our Certified Professional Resume Writers have rated Professional Resume Services a 60/100. Additionally, Professional Resume Services has received customer reviews of 3.7/5 on Facebook. We consider this to be about average for the industry. However, we would have liked to see reviews across other platforms like Sitejabber, Trustpilot, Yelp, and BBB.

Facebook shows 3 reviews with an average rating of 3.7/5. These reviews might be fake, considering there’s no comment at all attached to any of them.

Professional Resume Services

Two reviews are far from enough to get a proper estimate of the overall satisfaction ratings for Professional Resume Services.

However, Erin Kennedy and other writers on her team have plenty of recommendations on LinkedIn.

As with anything, it’s important to take each review with a grain of salt. Additional research should be done beyond reading the reviews that are found online.

Professional Resume Services

Professional Resume Services Writer Credentials

As mentioned earlier, the resume writing team at Professional Resume Services is the strongest attribute of the company.

The company’s CEO, Erin Kennedy, has won five Toast of the Resume Industry (TORI) awards and five nominations.

She has also contributed to 16 best-selling career books and appeared as a subject-matter expert in publications such as Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, and Mashable.

Erin is a multi-certified resume writer and career coach. Her certifications include Certified Master Resume Writer (CMRW), Certified Executive Resume Writer (CERW), and Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW).

Although the company website offers no details about the other resume writers on the team, we went ahead and searched on LinkedIn. We found 15+ resume writers and career coaches there.

All the writers on Erin’s team are highly experienced and certified resume writers. Even the least experienced writer holds at least eight years of resume writing experience.

Professional Resume Services is also the first company that 7 members of its team have been nominated for the T.O.R.I awards. Three of them received the award, while the remaining 4 were runners-up.

Professional Resume Services Resume Writing Process

Professional Resume Services follows a straightforward and simple operating procedure for getting your resume written.

Let’s look at the steps taken in Professional Resume Services’ resume writing process below:

  • Initial consultation to identify your goals, strengths, and career needs.
  • Get matched with a certified resume writer based on your background.
  • The writer crafts your resume and sends it over to you.

The website doesn’t offer any information on the editing process of the resume. It also doesn’t provide any information about the turnaround time for resume writing.

However, the “Refund Policy” page states that they offer a satisfaction guarantee. “PRS does offer a Satisfaction guarantee. If a client is unhappy with the resume, let your writer or client care coordinator know and you will be contacted to discuss next steps.”

Stressed about your resume? Here are 5 things to know before hiring a resume writing service

thumbnail

Whether you're merely updating your resume or creating an entirely new one, resume writing can be a very stressful task. That's why many job seekers resort to hiring a resume writing service.

As a founder of multiple resume writing services who has been in the recruitment industry for more than 20 years, a question I get asked all the time is, What are the downsides of using a professional resume writer?

Here are five little-known facts to know before using a resume writing service:

1. The process may take longer than you expect

It's natural to think that if you're forking up money for a resume service do all the heavy lifting, things will be done before you know it. But writing a quality resume takes time, especially with so many people on the job hunt today. Many resume writers require about week or longer, depending on factors like how much revision is needed, their bandwidth, or your job experience level. In some ways, using a resume service actually means you're prioritizing quality over speed, so keep this in mind if application deadlines are on the horizon.

2. The writers aren't always as qualified as you think

Many services offer unbelievably low rates — but only because they need to in order to sustain a profitable business model. This is usually a red flag. More often than not, a low rate means you're getting an inexperienced writer who is willing to be compensated for much less. (Believe it or not, some services even hire a fresh-faced grad straight out of college.)

Services typically charge anywhere from $100 to $400, depending on how advanced your resume needs to be. Another trap to avoid is the "$25 resume and a 24-hour turnaround time." Remember, the writer's job is to create a compelling document that's more than just a history of your career, and if they're not spending more than a few days on your resume, expect to get something very crappy.

To avoid getting an inexperienced writer, do your research on the service. It also helps to call them to ask for samples and confirm that your assigned writer has had some sort of formal training on resume writing, especially in your industry.

3. The process is not as easy as you may think

A common misconception about resume writing services is that they do all the work for you. But the reality is that they can't even start working on your resume until you've filled out an extensive form detailing all the necessary information about your work history, skills and professional achievements.

Also expect to do a lot of back-and-forth collaboration with your writer via phone and email. And remember, you'll have to offer them feedback once they send you their first draft. It may take a few rounds before you agree on a final version.

4. You might be misled if you don't read the fine print

Many services provide some sort of guarantee, whether it's doubling your interviews , offering unlimited revisions or giving you a refund if you're unhappy with the turnout. While these promises may sound reassuring, it's important to read the fine print, as these guarantees are often not as amazing as they sound.

For example, an "interview guarantee" usually means you'll get a chance to have your resume rewritten, not that you'll somehow get an interview no matter what. However, if the company did a poor job writing your resume the first time, chances are the quality won't improve the second time around. Similarly, a promise of "unlimited revisions" is often void after a predetermined deadline has passed.

5. You probably don't need one

Hiring a professional resume writing service isn't always the best choice for everyone. It really depends on how much experience you have and what you're looking for. If you're unsure, consider the questions below:

  • Are you qualified for the position you want next? A resume writer isn't a magician — he or she can't make you stand out if you don't have the skills to begin with.
  • Are you looking for a raise or promotion? Hiring a professional writer is a good idea if you're looking for more money, responsibilities and a higher title. Since there's a lot of competition out there, you'll want your resume to stand out and use all the help you can get.
  • Do you make more than $40,000 a year? It's important to consider where you're putting your money and whether it's a smart financial decision. If you've just graduated and are applying to a very entry-level job, you won't have a lot of experience to deck out your resume — and that's okay.
  • Are you good at writing? Resume writing is, in its purest form, a lot of writing. You don't have to be an incredibly talented writer, but if you have low confidence in your skills, especially when it comes to elaborating on your skills, it's best to have someone else do the work for you.

How Much Do Resume Writing Services Cost?

We all want the perfect resume…but at what cost?!?! Resume services are all over the place when it comes to pricing. Some claim to only be $5 while others are priced at $1000. Let’s get down to the bottom of how much you should really be paying.

how much do resume services cost

We get it, resume writing isn’t easy and not everyone can do it. That’s why there’s a growing number of resume writing services out there ready to assist you within minutes. Depending on several factors, a resume could cost you anywhere from $100 to $1000.

These factors include the credentials and expertise of your writer, how in-depth the company’s writing process is, and your current career and where you want to be.

The price range is broad, so let’s break it down a bit more. We’ll examine the various categories to get down to the bottom of how much it costs to have a resume professionally written.

The “Too Good To Be True” Range: $100 and Under

A quick search online reveals that certain resume writing services will offer their entire service for a small fraction of $100, and I mean a really small fraction. Like the cost of a coffee from your local coffee chain for a resume.

Unfortunately, there’s always a catch.

More often than not, these services outsource their work to inadequate writers who do not even have adequate grasps of the English language. You might also end up working with a resume “factory” that produces cookie cutter, unoriginal, and lackluster content.

You’re better off spending a few hours writing your own resume, and saving that money.

Remember, any company charging less than $100 will value quantity over quality. If your budget is tight, we recommend that you try to utilize some online tutorials or tips. Many of these resources are available for free. Chances are, your writing will be better than what the service provides anyways.

At the end of the day, no matter the price, there’s no point in paying someone to write a resume that will never come in handy.

The Optimal Range: $100 to $500

This is the range that most reputable and genuinely professional resume writing services offer.

If you’re a recent graduate without many experiences, you will be paying at the lower end of the range. The opposite is true for experienced workers that may be trying to land an executive position such as upper management or CEO.

Make sure to look around before deciding on your writer. Ask questions during the interview process and don’t be afraid to ask for samples or testimonials. This price range is more than enough to pair you up with an experienced writer who will produce a high-quality resume. At this range, many will also be experienced with ATS software and work with you on that.

What About $500 to $1000 and Beyond

More often than not, the previous price range is already enough to find yourself a great deal. There are some exceptions though.

If you’re more interested in an advanced leadership position at a company, this range might be expected. Many services will charge in this range. This is reasonable because resumes tailored towards executive positions require more back and forth communication, research, and time. Even more, services will often have their strongest and most experienced writers working on these executive resumes.

Another reason you could be spending in this range rather than the previous one, are the bundles that are offered. These executive resume bundles offer many add-ons, but to no one’s surprise, end up being pricier.

Some of these extras may include:

  • Faster delivery time
  • Several (or even unlimited) rounds of revisions
  • Phone consultations
  • Cover letter
  • Interview coaching
  • Career advising
  • LinkedIn profile

These bonuses are good to have, but we do not consider them to be necessary by any means.

For both professional and executive resumes, there is no point in spending beyond $1000. There aren’t enough benefits to be investing all that money, and should be put towards something else.

One Thing to Consider: Do Your Research

Price is not the only thing that you need to consider. Especially with the growth of work at home trends, you need to be extra cautious of new resume writing services. Simply because they charge you lots of money does not make them qualified, or even legit.

Before opening your wallet, make sure to do your own research. Here are some important questions to consider.

  • Are there samples on their website?
  • Is contact information readily available?
  • Is it easy to contact a live person?
  • Is their public image and relationship positive?
  • Do they have any testimonials or reviews?
  • Do the reviews seem natural and not paid for?

If you end up answering no to any of these questions, be cautious.

Just stick with the most reputable and popular resume writing services if this is something you’re concerned about.

Most people will be satisfied with spending around $200 or so, depending on where they are in life and what the resume is tailored towards.

The happy medium is the $100 to $500 range. With this amount, your wallet will be okay, and you will get an effective resume that will do wonders for your career. Resume writing services are well worth it as long as they are reasonably priced and of value to you.

How Much Do Resume Writing Services Cost?

In today’s economy and job market, one of the most important tools a person can have is a well-written resume.  Hiring a professional resume writer can give you the advantage you need when applying and interviewing for a new position.

Working with a professional resume service will get you the writing skills and objectivity to determine the right focus of your situation.  This is a skill that is critical to landing a job in any field.

How much do resume writing services cost?

The price of a resume can vary depending on the type of job you are applying for.  A resume written for an entry-level position will cost much less than a resume written for an executive position.   Depending on the position, plan on spending anywhere from as little as $250 to more than $1,200.   Refer to our chart below.  What we did was call up a few resume services online and asked them what they would charge us.  We didn’t list the company, but rather, listed what we told them.

According to blueskyresumes.com , there is no blue book to tell you what you should be paying.  She notes, in her personal opinion, that it should cost somewhere between $600 to $900.

Noted below are price ranges for some of the most popular resume services, according to Google searches:

Resume writing services overview

First, the service will gather your information either through email, over the phone or in person.  With the information they receive, they will be able to write the resume based on what type of job you are seeking and what type of experience you have.  Most of the time, if you choose a reputable service, they will match you up with a writer who has similar to experience to yours since they will know the industry’s “buzz” words and trends.

Editing the resume will usually include the basic editing techniques as well as the polishing or changing some wording if necessary.

Package deals will include extras such as a cover letter, a follow-up thank you letter and delivery.

Interview coaching includes things like job-specific sample questions, salary negotiation strategies, and email follow-ups.

What are the extra costs?

Add-ons, such as writing a cover letter, can cost more due to the fact that this is separate from the resume.  This can be an additional $50 to $100.

Adding the resume to a CD can be an additional $10 to $20.

Rush orders that need to be done in 24 hours can cost up to $100+ more if the service is available.

Editing down the road once the resume has been accepted can be an additional expense.  Keep in mind that many services will be more than happy to edit during the initial purchase.

Questions to ask:

Do you have any type of certification?  What is your educational background?

What kind of credentials do you have?

May I see some samples you have written in the past?

Do you offer a 100% guarantee?

How can I save money?

The cheapest way to use a resume writing service is to collect and compile all of your own information and then only have them edit and polish it.  This is usually the cheapest service; however, it will take a lot more work on your part.

Most services provide package deals which include more than one service.  This is usually the cheapest per-service price.

You may also want to consider picking up some Resume books  and learning the art of creating a resume.  Some websites, such as themuse.com , state you shouldn’t hire a professional because recruiters are able to spot professionally written resumes from a mile away.  The reason?  They tend to be boring and filled with fluff that the average applicant usually won’t include in their resume.

If choosing a service, consider a package that puts everything together such as a resume, cover letter and thank you letter.  This is a great way to save money on a bulk order, rather than purchasing them individually.

How to compare prices:

When searching for a resume writing company, use services such as best10resumewriters.com to compile a list of suggested companies.  Services that make a list such as this, however, will quite often be more expensive than a less popular company.

Most resume writing websites offer samples of their work for you to read.  When looking at these samples, pay close attention to the quality.

Another thing to look at is the market strategy the company uses.  Pay close attention to their website and see what kind of tactics they use.  Is the website up to date?  Is it modern and well maintained?  Remember that this company will be marketing you, so you will want to make sure they are up to date on trends.

What Is Respite Care and Where Can I Find Respite Caregivers Near Me?

Respite care offers home caregivers a chance to relax, regroup and replenish their energy. Learn more about the types of respite care, how much respite care costs and where to find respite caregivers.

This article is based on reporting that features expert sources.

Respite Care

Nobody can function in any role 24/7 without a break. Yet, that’s what some family caregivers do. Taking time away from the immense responsibility of caring for a loved one seems like a luxury: hard to afford and nearly impossible to manage.

“Everyone deserves the dignity of aging well in the place they call home,” says Diane Ty, the Washington, D.C.-based managing director for the Milken Institute Future of Aging.

But can aging in place come at the cost of caregiver strain and burnout? Finding a way to take a brief respite is necessary for caregiver physical and mental health. Moreover, the family member receiving care benefits from having a better-rested, reinvigorated caregiver looking after them. See what short-term respite entails and how to find respite care.

Key Takeaways:

  • Respite care provides short-term relief for caregivers, allowing them to feel refreshed and avoid burnout.
  • There are a variety of respite care options available, such as adult day care centers, home health care or temporary stays at an assisted living community.
  • Costs of respite care can vary, depending on the option you choose, but you may be able to use benefits from Medicare, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage to help pay. Private funding may also be available.
  • There are multiple resources available for caregivers from organizations like the ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center, the National Adult Day Services Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.

What Is Respite Care?

Respite care is any type of short-term relief for caregivers. While that respite care definition sounds simple, respite can take various forms.

It can mean a few short hours without caregiving responsibilities and worries while a sibling steps in or an in-home caregiver takes over. Respite could involve dropping a parent or spouse off for adult day services. Respite might mean a long weekend away for caregivers during their loved one’s temporary stay at an assisted living facility.

Any successful respite involves some planning and preparation to enjoy that period of comparative freedom and downtime.

Respite Care Types

Respite care can take place in a variety of settings, including:

  • Adult day care centers.  Also called adult day services, these programs offer assistance and supervision for older adults during the day. Adult social day care offers respite care, meals, recreation and  social activities  and may include some health services. Adult day health care provides respite care and more intensive therapeutic, health and social services for older adults with serious medical conditions who otherwise might need  nursing home care .
  • In-home caregiving.  In-home respite care brings professional caregivers such as certified nursing assistants or, when needed, a visiting nurse to provide care where the older adult lives. In-home services can encompass help with preparing meals, personal hygiene, toileting and other needs, depending on the individual. This respite could encompass a few hours during the day or overnight stays.
  • Assisted living stay.  Family caregivers can arrange short-term stays in some  assisted living communities , to go on vacation or attend an out-of-town event, for instance. Medication assistance, meals, help with activities of daily living and a variety of social activities are all included.
  • Informal family respite.  Siblings or other relatives, friends and volunteers through community networks like CaringBridge   let people pitch in to give the primary caregiver a break. There are other respite care resources like churches and senior centers, says Peter Ross, the co-founder and CEO of Senior Helpers, a Baltimore-based organization that facilitates nonmedical in-home care for seniors. "They are usually volunteers, so you need to be careful about who comes into your home," he adds.
  • Home health care . Ross explains that home health care provides certified nurse aides for short assignments paid by Medicare under a doctor's order, but not much coverage is provided.

Respite Care Costs

Respite care can be expensive. While rates vary by type of care and location, these are average costs:

  • Adult day services.  The average daily rate for up to eight hours in U.S. adult day care services is $95, according to the  2023 Cost of Care Survey  conducted by Genworth Financial.
  • Assisted living facilities.  The average rate for one day of assisted living community care is $176, according to the Genworth survey. However, respite care might not be offered on an occasional, short-term basis, and there may be a minimum stay requirement.
  • In-home respite care.  The average cost for a home health aide is $33 an hour, or $207 per day, according to the aforementioned Genworth survey.

Ross says the best way to check the cost of respite care near you is to contact a home health agency in your area. A respite care provider will determine cost based on an assessment and work with you to create a respite care plan.

Who pays for respite care?

Before you feel the cost of respite care is too prohibitive, consider some of the following programs that are available to help you pay for respite care.

  • Medicaid. Medicaid state waivers may help you pay for respite services. Contact your state's Medicaid office to learn more about how to access this benefit where you live.
  • Veteran's Administration. As a veteran or dependent of a veteran, you may qualify to apply for benefits through the VA to pay for respite care. "A home care agency should be able to help you through this process," Ross explains. Ty suggests looking into the Program of Comprehensive Assistance to Family Caregivers.
  • Medicare Advantage. Some Medicare Advantage plans may offer respite care or personal care services as a supplemental benefit. Contact a member services representative for your plan to learn more.
  • Medicare. "Finally for Medicare recipients, starting in July, if your loved one has any form of dementia, respite care will be available through the Medicare GUIDE program ," Ross says. Contact your provider or Medicare to see how you can request this $2,500 per year benefit.
  • Vouchers and stipends . Many states provide respite vouchers and stipends. A few of these assistance programs include the Lifespan Respite Program and local Area Agencies on Aging directed by the National Family Caregiver Support Program . To find an AAA in your community, search "area agencies on aging + your state's name."
  • Private companies. Private funding is available through grant programs administered by organizations like Hilarity for Charity , the National Organization for Rare Diseases, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and even by faith-based organizations, such as Lutheran Services in America .

How to Find Respite Care Near Me

These are good starting points for family caregivers seeking respite care and support:

  • ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center . Funded by the Administration for Community Living, ARCH offers the  National Respite Locator  among myriad services for family caregivers.
  • National Adult Day Services Association.  The  NADSA directory  lets users find adult day services throughout the country.
  • Eldercare Locator and call center.  The  interactive tool  connects caregivers and older adults to their AAA, which can direct users to local services, including respite care. You can also call 800-677-1116   to speak with an agency staff member.
  • Disability services.  To ask about services like respite for caregivers of younger people who have a disability such as a cognitive or mobility impairment, call the Disability Information and Access Line at 888-677-1199.
  • Alzheimer’s Association.  For caregivers of a family member with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia, these are helpful  respite-related resources .
  • Department of Veterans Affairs.  VA medical centers can give the  veteran’s caregiver  a break by taking over that care for a limited time, for up to 30 days in a calendar year. This respite care may be provided at the VA medical center, in a community facility or in the veteran’s home.

A geriatric care manager can be a professional ally for family caregivers, with extensive knowledge of local options. Also referred to as aging life care experts, geriatric care managers work with older adults and their families to identify needs, make a care plan and find services in the community, according to the National Institute on Aging.

When People Seek Respite

Respite care is a popular resource for caregivers associated with the National Family Caregiver Support Program , established by Congress in 2000 as part of the Older Americans Act. In 2023, Congress increased funding by $2 million compared with fiscal year 2022.

It's clear that the need for respite care is so great because of the impact it has on families and caregivers.

“Most family caregivers don’t identify as caregivers, so oftentimes people don’t search for things like respite until they are overwhelmed and stressed,” says Sandy Markwood, the CEO of USAging, based in Washington, D.C.

She adds that “caregiving often extends beyond an episodic event into months and years. So, caregivers find that trying to continue to maintain that level of support over time becomes difficult, the families find. It’s one thing if Mom and Dad are returning from a hospital stay and they need help for a couple of weeks, or maybe a month or so. But if it’s three or four years? It’s a different situation.”

Markwood suggests looking into online communities like CaringBridge, where family members can all pitch in, for instance, when a loved one is recovering from a fall .

Respite care plays a crucial role in maintaining a caregiver's well-being by offering vital breaks to combat burnout and alleviate stress , says Shanna Grayson, the vice president of care management at Homethrive, an Illinois-based health tech company tackling the caregiving crisis.

"These breaks provide opportunities for rest, rejuvenation and the strengthening of bonds with loved ones," she notes.

Advantages of Respite Care

Respite offers advantages to the person receiving and giving care.

  • More present caregiving . “It’s having a caregiver who is refreshed,” Markwood says. “One who is able to care, and able to be there and be present.” When a caregiver has a chance to take a breather, “it’s renewing on both sides,” she adds.
  • Reduced caregiver burnout . With respite, family caregivers can make it to their own doctors’ appointments, go to the grocery store or watch a child’s soccer game, Markwood says. Respite means “just making sure that their loved one is safe and secure so they can go off and do things that are important in their lives, but not worrying the whole time about the care their loved one is getting,” she points out.
  • Change in scenery for the care recipient . In some cases, respite care might feel disruptive for the person receiving care, especially if they have dementia or a memory condition. But for others, the change of pace and sharing their story with a new caregiver is a welcome change in routine.

Respite Care Challenges

People may push back at being attended to by anyone other than their comforting family caregiver, at least at first. That reluctance can be heightened when respite involves a short stay in an assisted living facility . Challenges can include:

  • Difficulty trusting a new caregiver . Consider your loved one's cognitive status and understanding when arranging respite care. They may need days or even weeks of mental preparation for the anticipated schedule and care change. For individuals that don't have full cognitive understanding, work preemptively with the respite caregiver to ensure a smooth transition. For example, if your loved one has a specific preference in their daily routine or a snack they like to take with their medications.
  • Cost of care . Cost is a barrier for many individuals seeking respite care. Look into assistance programs to help with the cost. You can also compare quotes for multiple respite services before choosing.
  • Finding a reputable respite care program . To ensure your loved one will be receiving high-quality care, have a discussion with your anticipated care team to discuss their qualifications and licensing. It's also important to consider the religious, personal or cultural needs of your loved one when matching them to a respite service.

Hiring in-home care may be a simpler possibility. As with most aspects of caregiving, there aren’t cut-and-dried answers or solutions.

Consumer price growth accelerated in March, adding to cloudy picture for U.S. economy

Inflation remained elevated once again in March, adding another round of price increases to Americans' already-strained wallets.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 12-month price growth accelerated from 3.2% in February to 3.5% in March, matching consensus forecasts among economists.

Excluding food and energy, which represent commodities with more volatile prices, the so-called core 12-month reading was unchanged in March at 3.8%.

Customer looks at deli meat section at grocery store.

Some of the items seeing the largest 12-month leaps in price gains included auto insurance, which soared 22.2%; domestic services like home cleaning, up 10.9%; baby food and formula, up 9.9%; and outpatient hospital services, up 8.3%.

If there was any relief, it was in grocery prices, which were up just 1.2% on the year. And prices for new and used vehicles fell.

But Greg McBride, chief financial analyst at Bankrate, put the situation succinctly in an email following Wednesday's release.

“There is no improvement here, we’re moving in the wrong direction,” he said.

On paper, the U.S. economy has looked solid. The unemployment rate has now remained below 4% for the longest stretch since the 1960s. Stocks have been at all-time highs. The economy continues to add jobs.

But since the start of the pandemic, Americans have seen average prices increase more than 20% overall — giving people a sense that the cost of many goods and services, not to mention housing, has surged to unreasonable levels.

When will prices come down?

So what will cause price growth to finally slow down to the Federal Reserve's 2% target?

Unfortunately, it usually takes a major economic crisis for broad categories of prices to reverse. Instead, the best that consumers can hope for is that they stop going up so fast.

While there are some signs that it's happening — grocery price increases, for instance, have finally fallen below 2% after surging during the pandemic — economists say it's likely to still take some time for inflation to truly subside.

Complex economic forces, they say, continue to keep price growth elevated.

A significant worker shortage sparked by the pandemic — especially for front-line service employees — helped push hourly pay higher. But this resulted in pushing up prices on the consumer side, since labor costs represent a significant portion of the overall cost of given goods or service.

Meanwhile, supply chain disruptions that emerged during the pandemic have yet to fully subside, said Sarah House, a managing director and senior economist at Wells Fargo.

She pointed to automobile prices, which have surged more than 20% since the start of the pandemic for new vehicles and more than 30% for used vehicles. While the pace of their price increases has abated, difficulties in sourcing auto parts, plus the loss of experienced technicians, have pushed vehicle prices higher.

This, in turn, has pushed auto insurance rates higher — and it turns out that car insurance commands a significant percentage of the overall increase in consumer prices.

“The services side is where we’re continuing to see stronger [price] growth,” House said. “That’s where we’re still getting an elevated degree of inflation from.”

Stagnant pay and higher borrowing costs

Americans’ pay has barely kept up with the price increases. While federal stimulus at the outset of the pandemic helped give people a cash cushion during the worst of it, there is an emerging consensus that this same cushion helped drive prices higher by giving people money to spend.

On net, Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows that the effect of inflation has caused Americans’ average hourly pay to rise by just a few cents compared with where it was at the start of the pandemic.

The Federal Reserve, which is in charge of taming price growth, in part by raising interest rates, has sought to fight fire with fire. By raising the cost of borrowing money, the central bank has tried to reduce demand for goods and services, ultimately pushing price growth down.

The Fed’s interest rate hikes have indeed caused borrowing costs for everything from credit cards to automobiles to homes to climb to levels not seen in years.

For many Americans, that’s meant getting locked out of the housing market, not to mention paying credit card rates above 20% and auto loan rates above 8%.

But inflation has persisted, surprising many economists. At the start of the year, the consensus forecast was for economic growth to slow, allowing the Fed to start cutting interest rates this spring, with a total of three cuts for 2024.

But a growing number of analysts now say that, at a minimum, rate cuts will be delayed. Still others say there won’t even be three cuts.

Despite all the challenges, the risk of a recession that would lead to significant job losses remains low. Yet there are signs that consumer jitters are accelerating. The New York Federal Reserve reported Monday that fears of job losses are climbing and that workers who are already out of a job say getting hired is now more difficult than it was prior to the pandemic.

While about one-quarter of Americans report their household financial situation to be better than a year ago, about one-third report being worse off.

It all adds up to a precarious situation. In a speech last week, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell called the economic outlook "still quite uncertain."

"The job of sustainably restoring 2% inflation is not yet done," he said.

  • The Vaccinations Your Cat Needs
  • Core Vaccination Costs
  • Optional Vaccination Costs
  • Additional Vet Service Costs
  • Low-Cost Vaccination Clinics
  • Pet Insurance

When you initially hold that precious fuzzy feline face between your hands, you make a vow to ensure their well-being for life—and that means covering cat vaccination costs.

You'll always pay a little more in the first year of a kitten's life. The initial cat vaccinations cost from $100 to upwards of $200 depending on your kitty's initial health as well as the prices in your region—but it's worth it to make sure they are protected from diseases.

With your veterinarian, you'll then create a preventative care plan for your cat depending on their age, current health, and how much time they spend outside. These annual and regular cat vaccinations can cost anywhere from $20 to $200. While you are budgeting for shots, be sure that annual exams are part of your overall pet healthcare budget, too. A veterinarian will want to make sure your cat is as healthy as possible before they administer the shots.

Which Vaccinations Does My Cat Need?

Most kittens receive their first round of vaccinations and will last until they're 16 weeks old, depending on how many more boosters or additional vaccines they need. A booster is an additional vaccination given after a previous vaccination to help maintain or increase a protective immune response. This schedule is imperative because kittens gradually lose the protection of their mother's antibodies. Once they're one year old, your vet will implement a different vaccination schedule.

Your cat's vaccination schedule is based on whether kitty spends their time indoors, outdoors, or both , according to Bonnie Bragdon, DVM, MS, co-founder and president of the Independent Veterinary Practitioners Association . Neutered , vaccinated cats who mostly stay inside are unlikely to get infected with disease. Meanwhile, she says vaccines might not be enough to protect mostly outdoor kitties, who may come into more frequent contact with other cats and face higher exposure to infection.

Bragdon recommends the following vaccinations for both indoor and outdoor cats:

  • Feline leukemia (FeLV) , is one of the most common infectious diseases for cats, and it's also a primary cause of cancer . Infected kitties often develop leukemia and lymphoma, and it's incredibly contagious, passed between cats through grooming, bites, and from a mother to her offspring in utero and during nursing.
  • The FVRCP vaccine series, referred to as the "3–in–1 vaccine," protects against seriously contagious and potentially deadly viruses: calicivirus , feline panleukopenia ( distemper ), and herpes , also known as viral rhinotracheitis.
  • Rabies , a zoonotic disease , is transmittable between animals and humans, and cats are the most commonly reported rabid domestic animal in the United States, according to the CDC . Bragdon adds that even indoor-only cats should be vaccinated against rabies. "If your cat ever bit a human and wasn't vaccinated for rabies, there could be dire consequences, including euthanasia, to test for rabies infection," she says.

How Much Do Cat Vaccinations Cost?

Precalculating the total cost of cat vaccinations can be difficult, as it depends on the cat: which shots do they need (Have they already had some shots? Do they need non-core vaccines?) and where you live (cat vaccine costs vary depending on location). That said, for your kitten's first year of shots, you can expect to pay a low average of $115, a middle average of $160 and a high average of $210.

Here's what you should budget for cat vaccines in the first year of a kitten's life:

  • Feline leukemia: $25–$45
  • FVRCP: $20–$40 (and again for follow-up applications within the first year)
  • Rabies (one year): $20–$30

Keep in mind you'll also pay an average of $30–$50 for a general exam when your kitten goes in for the first round of vaccines.

Shortly after their first birthday, cats switch to annual adult exams, which include core vaccine updates. If your pet stays indoors, Bragdon says two- or three-year updates on most vaccines are fine. However, if the kitty is outdoors a lot, your vet will likely recommend annual boosters. State laws also dictate certain vaccine requirements. For instance, some states permit rabies updates every three years, while others require them once a year. Those boosters cost $35–$50 per shot.

Optional Cat Vaccinations Costs

Vets often suggest the following non-core cat vaccinations if you plan to let kitty outside frequently, board them, or have a clowder of cats. Note the following vaccines are typically only used as part of a control program in a multi-cat household where infection is already confirmed.

  • Bordetella , another zoonotic disease, is a highly contagious respiratory infection known as kennel cough that cats transmit between each other and even catch from infected dogs. If left untreated, bordatella could cause pneumonia . The vaccine is frequently administered in stages or as one shot with annual boosters. Cost: $10–$30 per treatment
  • Feline chlamydia , a bacterial infection that causes numerous eye problems in cats , such as conjunctivitis . Cost: $20–$40 per treatment

Cost of Additional Vet Services

In addition to cat vaccines, you'll want to budget for additional vet services throughout your kitty's life.

For example, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a serious cat–to–cat contact disease that compromises their immune system and puts them at risk for other infections. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a vaccine. Bragdon says there used to be one, but it was taken off the market because it wasn't effective against all strains. Instead, some vets do a "combo test" of FeLV and FIV at the same time.

If a cat tests positive for FIV, there isn't a cure, but depending on the stage of illness, they can still live long, happy lives indoors, so long as there aren't FIV-negative cats in the house. Your veterinarian may then recommend twice-per-year visits for infected kitties to make sure they stay ahead of any problem that could develop.

Additionally, during your kitten's first or second visit, your vet will recommend additional treatments, such as flea and tick protection, and a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms . If you live in the southern U.S., it's also possible your vet will also suggest heartworm testing.

Here's what you can expect common additional vet services to cost:

  • Fecal exam: $20–$40
  • FeLV/FIV combo test: $40–$80
  • FIV test only: $30-$50
  • Flea and tick prevention: $40–$200
  • Heartworm prevention: $25–$120
  • Deworming: $25–$130 (many vets still deworm as not all fecal exams show parasites even when present)
  • Heartworm test: $25–$50 (if necessary)

Not all of these additional services are required annually. During their adult exams, your kitty will receive a check-up, core vaccination updates, a fecal exam, and possibly blood work.

Are There Low-Cost Cat Vaccinations Near Me?

When you adopt a cat from a rescue or shelter, they've usually received at least the first round of basic vaccinations (make sure you have that paperwork for your vet!). However, shortly after you bring them home, plan to take them to your family vet to have a thorough exam and complete the vaccine schedule, if necessary. Some organizations may provide a voucher that allows you to do this for free or direct you to a specific clinic to have them performed at a discounted rate.

Bragdon also recommends researching local municipal animal control services and private nonprofit organizations to see what short-term cost assistance might be available. Sometimes, local rescues provide free basic services as part of community outreach programs , partnering with veterinarians for special events a few times a year.

You can also consult a nearby veterinary school to see if it offers free or low-cost vaccination clinics as part of the training curriculum. And many vet offices now offer "vaccines for life" easy-payment programs with prior enrollment. Additionally, The Humane Society of the United States provides an extensive list of resources that could help with cat vaccination costs, including discounted veterinary care and sliding-scale income programs.

Does Pet Insurance Help?

Pet insurance is a terrific option to reduce the high price of emergencies or surgical procedures, and the monthly premiums are generally affordable. However, few policies provide for vaccination costs. Here are two other possibilities: Create a separate savings account for pet healthcare expenses or consider getting a pet wellness plan , .which helps cover preventative care like cat vaccinations.

The cost of health services vary within America's major cities—here's where they differ the most

How much do prices for health services vary within a city.

Health care prices are notoriously opaque in America. A 2022 InstaMed survey reported that 71% of consumers found their medical bills confusing, while 76% received an unexpected charge.

Congress introduced a number of reforms in recent years designed to help people figure out how much various medical services actually cost. As of Jan. 1, 2021, hospitals must publish how much they charge for various services online, in formats that are easy for both consumers and machines to read.

This data, compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services , reveals prices can vary immensely from provider to provider. Care Better created its own database, based in part on CMS data, to make sense of these numbers.

Care Better data shows prices can vary drastically from doctor to doctor for the same services even within a single city, which is a compelling reason to shop around before committing. For the sake of simplicity, this data analysis focuses on new patients visiting doctors at their offices, on visits that lasted between 30 and 44 minutes. The analysis includes data through August 2023, for the 25 largest cities in America.

Internal medicine practitioners were the most common type of specialist seen by patients. On average, internal medicine doctors at the 25th percentile of costs charged around $107 for a typical office visit, while doctors at the 75th percentile of costs charged around $130. Based on this data, setting aside factors such as a doctor's popularity, or how high their reviews are, a consumer can easily save over 20% on doctor visits just by shopping around within the same city.

Care Better

Prices vary more in some cities than in others.

Looking again at internal medicine specialists, the price gap between more expensive doctors and more affordable ones was especially big in Denver. Internal medicine specialists in the Mile High City at the 75th percentile of cost charged around $123 for a 30- to 44-minute office visit, while their counterparts at the 25th percentile of cost only charged around $94. Nashville and Dallas had similarly large price gaps.

In contrast, San Francisco had the most competitive market. Internal medicine doctors at the 75th percentile of cost charged an estimated $117 for a typical office visit, while their less expensive colleagues charged about $115. In contrast to Nashville and Dallas, shopping around for doctors in the City by the Bay would seem to make little difference to patients' pocketbooks.

Prices vary a lot by specialty

Prices can vary a great deal within other specialties, too. Looking just at data from New York City, family medicine practitioners had the largest spread when it came to cost. Costlier family specialists (at the 75th percentile of prices) charged about $142 per office visit, while lower-cost family specialists (at the 25th percentile) charged about $109.

There was hardly any difference in what emergency medical practitioners charged: Doctors at the 75th percentile of priciness charged an average of $120, just about $11 more than their peers at the 25th percentile.

Data on health care prices will likely get better over time. Though price transparency regulations have improve, so far not all hospitals have complied. On Dec. 11, 2023, the House of Representatives passed the  Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, which gives the government more power to enforce transparency laws, while also requiring a broader range of health care providers, such as imaging service providers, to publish their prices. Health care pricing will still be complicated, but it is welcome news for price-conscious patients.

Stamp prices poised to rise again, for the 2nd time this year

By Kate Gibson

Edited By Anne Marie Lee

April 10, 2024 / 10:19 AM EDT / CBS News

When it comes to stamps, the word "forever" on first-class mail doesn't apply to prices.

The U.S. Postal Service is signaling that the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp will increase to 73 cents on July 14, 2024, up by a nickel from the 68 cents one currently costs.

When first introduced in 2007, a Forever stamp was 41 cents. The stamps were named as such so one knew they could use the stamp "forever," regardless of when it was purchased.

The latest proposed changes — to be reviewed and approved by the governors of the Postal Service — also include a nickel hike to the price to mail a 1-ounce metered letter, to 69 cents, the postal service said Tuesday in a news release .

Mailing a postcard domestically will run you 56 cents, a 3-cent increase, while the price of mailing postcards and letters internationally are both rising by a dime to $1.65.

All told, the proposed changes represent a roughly 7.8% increase in the price of sending mail through the agency.

Notably, the price of renting a Post Office Box is not going up, and USPS will reduce the cost of postal insurance 10% when mailing an item, it said.

The cost of Forever stamps rose to 68 cents in January,  from 66 cents .

The increases, part of the Postal Service's 10-year plan toward profitability, are hurting mail volume and USPS' bottom line, according to Keep US Posted, a nonprofit advocacy group of consumers, nonprofits, newspapers, greeting card publishers, magazines and catalogs.

The group called for the proposed increases to be rejected and for Congress to take a closer look at the Postal Service's operations, citing findings by NDP Analytics in March.

"If rate increases continue to proceed at this frequency and magnitude without critical review, it risks plummeting volume further and exacerbating USPS's financial challenges," according to the report commissioned by the Greeting Card Association and Association for Postal Commerce.

USPS in November  reported a $6.5 billion loss for fiscal 2023, and is projecting a $6.3 billion deficit in 2024.

How much does Prime Video cost around the world?

Published on April 13, 2024

Amazon Prime Video stock image 2

Whether you’re after blockbuster movies like Inception or original series like The Boys, Amazon Prime Video is one of the top streaming service options on the market. It costs $8.99 per month in the USA, which is fairly standard for one of the premium services, but that’s not how much you’d pay in another country. The price of the monthly plan changes significantly depending on your home nation, which made us wonder where it might be cheapest and most expensive. We decided to investigate how much Prime Video costs around the world. You’ll find the answers below.

It’s important to note that Prime Video isn’t the same thing as Amazon Prime , but you do get the former included when you subscribe to the latter. You can pay a separate, lower price to get Prime Video on its own in many countries, which is what we’re looking at in this article. There are some nations where Prime Video is available but not as a separate service, meaning you can only get it with a full Amazon Prime plan.

We’ll reveal the prices in each country and then answer some other questions that they might pose in your mind.

QUICK ANSWER

The monthly price of Prime Video varies from $0.61 in Egypt to $8.99 in the United States.

JUMP TO KEY SECTIONS

How much does a Prime Video subscription cost around the world?

Should i use a vpn to get prime video from another country, why is prime video cheaper in some countries and more expensive in others.

The table below shows how much Prime Video costs in 28 countries. While the prices are charged in the local currency of each place, we’ve converted them to the equivalent US dollar value on the date of publication, then ordered the table from cheapest to most expensive.

The difference in the price of the monthly plan around the world is pretty huge, and we’ll go into why this is the case later on. Of the countries we surveyed, Egypt has the cheapest Prime Video plan at the equivalent of just $0.61 per month. Turkey and Nigeria are the next cheapest, respectively, both paying under $2 per month for the subscription.

Depressingly but unsurprisingly, the $8.99 per month that you pay in the US is the most expensive Prime Video plan of any country. That means that Americans are paying more than ten times that of Egyptians for the service. The other places at the pricey end of the list are all held by Western European countries.

What are we missing?

Unlike the full Amazon Prime service, Prime Video is available in over 200 countries. It would take us all day to write and bore you to read if we had checked them all, so we took a representative sample from some of the biggest markets in every corner of the globe. We can’t definitively say that there are none cheaper than Eygpt or more expensive than the US, but it is likely that most would be in the range from $3 to $7, like most of the places in our survey.

We also didn’t include the cost of the annual plan, as this was only available in about half of the countries we looked at. To give you an idea, it’s around eight or nine times the cost of the monthly plan in most cases, so you’re getting a few months for free by committing for 12 months. There are exceptions — the annual subscription in Poland is only around five times that of the monthly plan, making it a no-brainer to sign up for the year.

The picture gets more complicated in some instances. For example, you can’t separately sign up for Prime Video in some countries, with Amazon requiring you to get a full Prime membership in order to access the streaming service. Saudi Arabia falls into this category. India does too, although it also has an option called Prime Lite, which is cheaper and includes Prime Video. You can only pay for Prime Lite by the year, and if we had divided this annual cost by 12 to represent the monthly cost of Prime Video in India, it would have been the second cheapest on the list at $0.80 per month.

Aside from workarounds like that, we listed the cheapest monthly plans in each country. There are some places, such as the UK and Mexico, where you can pay a bit more to get an ad-free version of Prime Video.

Prime Video cost around the world with a VPN.

Those familiar with VPNs may have seen the rock-bottom prices in other countries and wondered if they can game the system.

Amongst many great perks, a VPN can spoof your location and make it appear as if you’re in a different city or country. This can allow you to get around geo-restricted content in some cases. Indeed, we had to use a VPN to find out the cost of Prime Video in each nation, and you might be considering taking it one step further and trying to sign up. We would advise against it, and it may not be that simple in any case.

Were you to give it a go, we suspect you’d get as far as the online checkout. Amazon almost certainly requires you to use an address and payment method based in the country you’re representing yourself as accessing the service from. The address might be easy enough, but a foreign bank might raise suspicion, and it’s unlikely you have a payment source in that country.

Aside from running the risk of committing some sort of fraud in this type of plan, you’re also likely to be in violation of the Prime Video terms of service. You wouldn’t be the first person to try this scheme, and Amazon will be constantly trying to root out VPN users trying to save money. As and when you’re discovered, you’ll lose your membership as a minimum. It’s not worth all this risk and hassle to save a few bucks a month.

Prime Cideo cost around the world.

Before we get into the market forces at play, we’ll acknowledge that converting all of the prices into US dollars impacts this survey. It helps us make a comparison, but exchange rates are dynamic, and the global economy has been more than a little turbulent over the past decade. If a currency falls sharply against the dollar then it’ll move up in the table, which would look different if we conduct this experiment in another six months or a year.

This is particularly stark when a country is experiencing extremely high inflation, as Argentina has in recent years. It’s still one of the cheapest countries on the list, despite Amazon hiking the cost of Prime Video there in recent months, but it certainly isn’t getting any cheaper for Argentinians.

More objectively, Amazon would probably point to the difference in content on the service in each part of the world. Since a lot of the movies and shows on Prime Video are produced for a western, English-speaking audience, it’s no surprise to see America as the most expensive country. But there are other factors at play.

At the end of the day, a big reason for price differences will be the costs to Amazon and the profit it wants to make. Related to the above point, it costs more to run Prime Video in some countries than others, including paying to license certain content. Then there’s the consumer spending power to consider and the revenue Amazon’s finance experts think can be extracted from each market. Business is business, and Jeff Bezos is one of the richest men in the world for a reason.

Egypt has the cheapest Amazon Prime Video plan at the equivalent of $0.61 per month.

Yes, if you have a Prime Video subscription and you travel to another country, you’ll be able to use it. The caveat is that you’ll see the content available in that nation, which may be different from what is on offer back home.
