Once your application is submitted and processed, you will receive an email with your login to the StartSBU portal.

If you would like to be considered for more than one program, such as both the Basic Baccalaureate and the Accelerated Baccalaureate or the Basic Baccalaureate program and Health Science major, you will be able to select both the Accelerated Baccalaureate and another program on the SUNY application.

• Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended must be uploaded with your application 
• Transcript(s) must include completed or in-progress required prerequisites.
• All outstanding prerequisite coursework must be posted on the official transcript(s) and your transcript(s) must be submitted and evaluated prior to the first day of classes.

Additional Requirements

There are additional prerequisites required for the upper division nursing programs and must be completed prior to the application deadline.

Admission to the Nursing program is highly competitive. Meeting minimum criteria for admission does not guarantee acceptance. The School of Nursing reserves the right to make final decisions based upon the applicant pool each year.

The School of Nursing reserves the right to change admission and program criteria to meet prevailing accreditation and registration requirements.

School of Nursing Program Requirements

Basic baccalaureate prerequisites (for applicants without a bachelor's degree) open accordion.

• Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.8 is required
• Completion of three prerequisite sciences by the application deadline
• 57 credits with a grade C or higher in the following courses

*Stony Brook University students who satisfy the language requirement (communicate in a language other than English) will fulfill the foreign language admission requirement for the School of Nursing. However, the number of required elective credits must increase from 9 to 12 in order to meet the minimum requirement of 57 credits.

**You must have completed 3 out of 4 sciences prerequisites by the application deadline. The 4th science prerequisite can be “In Progress” OR “Plan to Take” as long as the course is completed before the program's start term.

These courses together with the School of Nursing curriculum satisfy Stony Brook curriculum requirements and  provide our students with a diverse educational foundation that will facilitate lifelong active and adaptive learning and inspire engaged global citizenship.

• Bachelor's Degree

RN to Baccalaureate Program Prerequisites (for applicants with an A.S. in Nursing) Open Accordion

• A current unencumbered New York State RN license (or recently graduated nurses who will be licensed within 6 months of the start of the program)
• Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5
• All pre admission coursework must be completed with a grade C or higher

If your native or primary language is not English, you must take an English proficiency test. To be considered for admission, an applicant must present an acceptable score on the TOEFL test. The minimum internet scores are a total of 90 with a minimum score of 22 on each section.
