Scientific name of horse is Equus Caballus. It is one of the two subspecies evolved from the Equus Ferrus , which are existing till date.

Such is the fame of power and endurance of horse, that it has become a unit of measure; Horsepower equivalent to 745 watts.

Because of the special qualities of horse like, swiftness, speed, strength, humans got attracted and attached to this animal by way of domesticating them. Domestication of horse by humans started 6,000 years ago. And since then, they have been in our vicinity as our true companions.

Other than these domesticated horses, there also exists a truly wild subspecies of horse named as Przewalski’s horse, which is an endangered horse species now.

Life and Characteristics of Horse

Horse Characteristics

The height of horses, (which is usually measured in hands, in British Isles) can vary between 60 to 70 inches, i.e. 15 to 16 hands. And, their weight, which may vary across breeds and also because of the nutrition they get, can be between 500 kg to 1,000 kg, the drawing breeds (mainly used to carry burden) being heavier and taller.

Horses have very balanced physique, which help them run swiftly and escape the predator, while in wild. Perhaps this is the quality, the speed, which got humans attracted towards this fabulous animal, the most. They don’t just run fast but gallop, which is to leap forward.

They become even more attractive by the fact that they comes in variety of beautiful colors, white, black, grey, brown, maroon and so on. They have distinctive markings too.

Ponies are near relatives of the horse, the main differentiating factor between them is height; an animal of this genus below the height of 57 inches is considered as a pony, while the one who is above it, as a horse.

Horse, being animals of prey, lives in large herds led and dominated by female horses; Mares. They can sleep while standing or lying down, during this, other members of the herd provides them security. Of all the terrestrial mammals, they have the largest eyes, which helps them keeping track of their predator and as well as the terrestrial routes they pass by.

Besides, they have great sense of smell, and very good balance over their body.

Breeds of Horses

Horse doesn’t have many existing species, other than Equus Caballus, but it has various varieties called Breeds.

These breeds of horse can be broadly categorized as:

(i)  Hot bloods – they are the best variety with excellent speed and strength.

(ii) Cold bloods- they are mainly used as the ‘beasts of burden’, that is, to carry loads of goods as well as passengers.

(iii) Warm bloods- this variety of horses has been developed by crossbreeding of   hot bloods and cold bloods, created to serve specific purposes.

We have various breeds of horses like, Thoroughbred, Standard bred, American Quarter horse and so on, falling in these broad categories, all developed for specific purposes.

Horse breeds of some regions of world are superior then others, like horses of Arabia and central Asia are considered to have more endurance than other breeds, partially because of the adversarial climatic conditions they have been evolving through. And for this reason they used to be in great demands in all over the world.

Where are they Found?

Horses are found almost everywhere in the world, from regions of shivering cold to temperate, to the warm and humid tropical regions. They are found mainly in the areas like grasslands or woodlands, having small shrubs and sparsely located trees, instead of dense forests.

In Ancient Mythology

Possession of horses was used to be a sign or display of power & authority in many ancient human civilizations. In the ancient Roman and Greek civilizations, so important the horse was, that his body used to be laid down besides his master’s, inside the grave.

The Centaur, a beast depicting half-human and half-horse, is a very prominent creature in Greek mythology. Again, the Unicorn- a mystic, mythological creature representing body of a horse with a tail of lion and a single spiraling horn at its forehead, although finds its mention in the mythologies worldwide, but specifically in Greek natural history and Indian mythology it gets mentioned many times, as a symbol of purity (as it was considered that a Unicorn could be tamed by a virgin only). It also finds its mention in the holy Bible.

An ancient seal depicting unicorn was found from a site of Indus Valley civilization in India. Moreover, there’s worshipped a horse-headed deity called ‘Hayagriva’, in Hindu culture.

From past to present context

Horse

Horse is supposed to be first used by Central-Asian tribes, living across the Steppes (temperate grasslands) and since then it has evolved to its present form.

They were put to use in ancient warfare by these warrior tribes like Mongols, Uzbeks due to their swiftness, agility and sensing the danger and act accordingly, which made them best warfare implement of a warrior. Besides, horse is a very faithful and an intelligent animal as well. It has the ability to serve his master, even if it costs him his own life sometimes.

There are various legends of horse & human companionship, depicting his devotion towards their master. Famous of them being Alexander and his horse Bucephalus, whom Alexander the great would tell all his secrets, and great Hindu warrior king Maharana Pratap and his horse Chetak, who saved his masters life by riding him across a large water body, before Maharana Pratap could even realize

With the advent of modern era, before the discovery of modern means of transport, horse was widely used to draw heavy loads of goods as well as passengers, but especially was the royal carriage of monarchs, kings and queens.

Horses have also been used for their meat, hides (as leather sheets to prepare boots, purses etc.), tail hairs (in musical instruments) etc. The nomadic tribes of west & central Asia and Mongolia living in rugged mountainous and desert terrain used to drink horse blood to keep them fill while on long journeys.

In the present times also, weather its adventure sport like, horse-racing, Polo sport etc. or keeping the public security up to date in collaboration with their human colleagues, like in some European countries, horses are always besides the human.

Since time immemorial, we the humans have been taking services of horse for fulfilling various needs. First we used them to carry loads, then for riding difficult terrains in shorter period of time, then for warfare, then to make products like, accessories, medicines etc.

And now, apart from these, we have been using them to amaze, entertain and amuse us with their, intelligence, acrobatics and maneuvering feasts, respectively.

Recently, in the year 2016 a Hollywood movie named “The Revenant” won 3 Oscars. The movie very beautifully depicted the emotional relation being shared between a horse and his master- The revenant, for whom he sacrificed his life and even after death, his carcass provided shelter to his master, keeping him alive in lethal blizzards. Although fiction, but it’s not unusual. Several such incidents have taken place in the past.

My Horse riding Experience

I always used to love horses. I first saw a real horse when I was at the age of eight. I watched horse-themed movies, listened to stories about them, and read books about them. My first ride on a horse will always be memorable. I thought that riding horses would be easy, just like kings on television. Then I realised how mistaken I was.

I was down in Hyderabad with my relatives, and we decided to go horseback riding. We were thrilled and booked four horses at a riding school. The man at the school showed us how to rid the horse. After a while, the horse started moving slowly toward a field. I thought I was wobbling at first because it was my first time, but I kept my balance. The horse picked up the pace. The horse soon began to run faster and faster, and I began to lose control of it. I lost my left stirrup and began to slide down. The next thing I knew, I fell off the horse and landed in the mud. But apart from this, it was the best experience I had.

I have been taking lessons to ride a horse for 7 years, and now I teach others to ride. Horses are my favourite animal. Interesting Facts About Horses

For me, my favourite animal is the cat because they are so cute and make adorable pets. Bella is the name of my pet cat, and I love her white and black fur, small paws, tiny claws, and a cute little tail. Bella was a stray cat we adopted when she was just three months old. Bella does not want much attention, but she enjoys being around us. She enjoys all types of fish, and her favourite is tuna. She is either in bed or spends the entire day lying on the couch. Her way of expressing affection is unique.

Dogs are well-known for their loyalty, making them kids’ favourites. This short essay on the topic of my favourite animal dog will help children learn how to write an essay for class 3:

My favourite animal is a dog. Dogs are known for their friendliness and loyalty, and nothing can beat a dog’s devotion to their master. These are furry creatures found in various species, such as German shepherds, Pomeranians, Labradors, and others. Even I have a pet dog whose name is Rocky, and he is a German Shepherd with golden brown fur. He enjoys being around us and is extremely friendly. When I take him for a walk, that is his favourite time of day. He enjoys meeting new people and barks at other dogs he sees in the park. We adopted him when he was five months old and he is now four years old. He tries to keep us safe and never harms us.

Cats are small creatures that humans love. They come in a variety of colours, including white, black, and brown, and their small twinkling eyes make us adore them even more. Cats are known for their dislike of human contact, but they do show affection in other ways. Lucy is the name of my cat. She enjoys eating fish, meat, mashed eggs, and many other foods. When I get home from school, she rushes up to me and starts licking my hands. She recognises my sad mood and continues to sit beside me as if she is offering me support. We play on weekends and holidays, and she has a great time.

Elephants may appear to be enormous, but they are completely harmless. They have a playful nature; I have seen them in movies and videos splashing water from their trunks. The relationship between humans and elephants has been well known for a long time. Films have also been made about them, such as Haathi Mere Saathi. I have often seen the small and adorable baby elephants running around and playing in the zoo. Elephants eat plants, leaves, fruits, etc. Elephants are some of the most intelligent creatures on Earth.

Horses are extremely powerful and swift. Despite their thin legs, they are well-known for their running speed and are frequently used in horse races. Horses are obedient and friendly. Most of us have probably seen a horse in the hilly areas where they transport people from one location to another, and soldiers previously used them to fight in wars. Horses are herbivores that eat mostly grass. They can become extremely loyal to their master if properly trained. A horse’s average lifespan is 25-30 years. However, it may differ depending on their living circumstances. I once went to a horse race and witnessed them galloping with all their might. They are also among the most beautiful animals due to their silky hair and tails.

In an Indian household, the importance of a cow cannot be neglected. Cows have been given the status of mother and are referred to as “Gau Mata” in Hindi. A cow in the house is a common sight in rural areas. Many households rely on cows for a living. Cows produce milk, which is high in calcium and protein. Cow’s milk is used to make various dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt. Cows are herbivores that primarily eat grass, husk, vegetables, and grains. Cow dung is known for its antibacterial properties and is used as plant fertiliser. My grandparents’ house has four cows. I play with and feed them whenever I visit them on vacation. They are gentle creatures. I have fun spending time with them.

India’s national animal is the tiger. They are large cats that are mostly orange with black stripes. They are known for their strength and are associated with the Goddess Durga. They are carnivores that feed on small animals such as deer and antelopes. They are commonly referred to as man-eaters but do not unnecessarily prey on humans. Tigers are often hunted for their skin, nails and bones. During my summer vacations, I went to Sunderbans with my family, which is home to a variety of tigers. The Sundarban National Park and Tiger Reserve India aim to protect endangered species of tigers from extinction. The Indian government is also doing a lot to protect tigers!

Animals are a very important part of our surroundings, and this favourite animal essay will teach the children about them. They are innocent creatures who need love, and this essay might make the children more empathetic towards them. They will also learn about different animals and their features.

The Lazy Horse Story: A Short Story for Kids

The lazy horse story is about a horse who does a lot of tricks to avoid working. The horse wanted to avoid work, so it kept playing tricks with its master. This story teaches kids that:

If you are lazy, you will never be efficient at your work.

If you are lazy, you will end up affecting your life negatively.

An Overview of the Lazy Horse Story

Kids, do you prefer to read a story on laziness? Then buckle up. We have a very good short story for you. The story we are about to provide you is about a lazy horse who always tries to avoid tiresome work by playing different tricks with Tom, its master. The horse always threw the salt and made the sack lighter. Tom understood that and put some cotton into the sack so it became heavier when wet.

Reading the lazy horse story to kids or asking them to read it can help them understand that being lazy is not a good characteristic and one should try to be hard-working.

The Lazy Horse

The Lazy Horse

The Story of a Lazy Horse

Once upon a time, there was a boy who traded goods to the market. His name was Tom. He was very kind and understanding. He mostly traded salt. Tom always took the salt on horseback and returned home after selling it. But the horse was lazy and always wanted to avoid tiresome work.

One day, Tom was preparing to go to the market to sell salt. So, he put a sack of salt on horseback. The horse started to walk, but Tom was busy collecting food. After a few hours of walking, the horse reached a bridge. Suddenly, it slipped down, and salt started falling off the sack. Immediately the salt sank into the water. The horse started to scream for help. “Please help me. Someone, please help me.” After some time, when the horse returned from the water, the salt dissolved into the water, and the sack became lighter than before.

Tom reached the bridge after collecting food. When he weighed the salt, he saw it weighed half a kg less than before. At first, he thought that he probably weighed it wrong. But the same incident kept happening for two more weeks. Tom was getting suspicious of the horse.

One day, Tom put salt into the sack and put the sack onto the horse’s back. But this time, he did not stop anywhere to collect food. Instead, he started following the horse. He saw that when the horse reached the bridge, it tipped, and the sack of salt went into the water, causing the salt to get dissolved. So, Tom decided to teach the horse a lesson.

The next day, Tom became a cotton trader. So, he put some cotton into the sack and put the sack onto the horseback. The horse kept on walking. It slipped down when it reached the bridge, and the sack went into the river. As a result, the cotton became heavier after absorbing the water.

The horse was sinking and started shouting again, “please help me. I am getting suffocated here. Someone, please help me.” When the horse went up, Tom came to the bridge and said, “horsey, now I hope that you have learnt your lesson.”

The next day, Tom put some cotton into a sack again and kept it on the horse’s back. The horse started walking and put some cotton into the river. Then it started to run as fast as possible. After some time, it threw all the cotton somewhere and hid. When Tom returned, he got very angry to see that all the cotton was on the ground. But he was a kind-hearted fellow, so he just scolded the horse.

But Tom understood that the horse would not stop doing its trick just because he was now a salt trader. So, he started trading salt again. This time, he trained the horse properly and told it not to be up with any tricks. But the horse was still trying to trick Tom.

One day, the horse tripped and fell into the water. It started shouting for help. “Please help me. Tom, please help me.” Tom heard the horse screaming for help. So, he ran as fast as he could to save his horse. This time, Tom brought a rope and told the horse to hold the rope and come out of the water safely. The horse learned its mistake. After that day, Tom packed salt in the sack and traded salt forever without being a victim of any trick.

Moral of the Story

The moral of the Lazy Horse Story is: “Laziness cannot solve any problem.”

In this paragraph, we will discuss the history, biology, and social significance of the cow.

Essay on Cow in English for class 4 & above:

This is a separate Essay on Cow in English for class 4 students. Don’t be sad if you read in class 5 or class 6, you can also use this essay on cows in English. If you are a 10th-class student then it will also be your ideal essay on cows for class 10 .

Introduction:

The cow is a domestic animal. It is a very useful animal. It gives us milk, butter, ghee, and many other products. It is a gentle and quiet animal. The cow has four legs, a tail, and two horns on its head. It has a large body and a short neck. The cow is usually brown or black in color. It has a long face and big, round eyes. The cow is a herbivore, which means it only eats plants. It likes to eat grass, hay, and grains. It also needs to drink a lot of water to stay healthy.

History of the Cow:

Cows are descended from the aurochs, a species of wild cattle native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Aurochs were large, aggressive animals that were hunted for their meat and hide. Over time, humans began to domesticate the aurochs, breeding them for traits that were desirable for agriculture, such as reliability and the ability to produce large amounts of milk. These domesticated cows, also known as Bos taurus, spread throughout the world and became an important source of food, clothing, and other resources for humans.

Cows are known for their gentle nature and ability to form strong bonds with humans and other cows. They are social animals and prefer to live in groups, known as herds. Within a herd, cows have a complex social hierarchy, with a dominant cow acting as the leader. Cows are also intelligent animals and can learn and adapt to new environments.

Biology of the Cow:

In terms of biology, cows are mammals and belong to the Bovidae family, which also includes goats, sheep, and antelopes. They are ruminants, meaning they have a four-chambered stomach that allows them to digest plant material more efficiently. Cows are herbivores and feed primarily on grass and other types of vegetation. They are also known for their ability to convert inedible plant material such as hay and straw into nutritious food through the process of rumination.

The social significance of the cow:

Cows are an important food source for humans, and their meat and milk are consumed worldwide. In many cultures, beef, also known as beef, is a staple food, and cow’s milk is a popular source of protein and other nutrients. Cows are an important source of leather, which is used to make a variety of products, including clothing, shoes, and furniture. Besides these practical uses, cows have also played an important role in religion and culture. In Hinduism, the cow is considered sacred and a symbol of wealth, power, and maternal love. In many parts of the world, cows are also used for farming fields and transportation.

In recent years, there has been much debate about the environmental impact of cows and their role in climate change. Cows produce methane, a greenhouse gas, as a byproduct of digestion, and the production of beef and dairy products is linked to deforestation and water pollution. However, it is essential to note that cows can have a positive impact on the environment. For example, cows can help maintain grasslands and prevent soil erosion and can be raised using sustainable practices that minimize their environmental footprint.

Conclusion:

Despite the controversy surrounding cows, it is undeniable that they have played an important role in human society for thousands of years. As a source of food, clothing, or cultural significance, cows have had a lasting impact on the world. As we continue to grapple with the challenges of feeding a growing population and addressing environmental concerns, it is important to consider what role cows can play in a sustainable future.
