Short answer

What do all successful pitch decks have in common?

6 things successful startup pitch decks have in common:

  • They showcase a market gap
  • They present a unique solution
  • They include a synergetic and capable team
  • They outline a solid business model
  • They deliver impressive (realistic) financial projections
  • They wrap it all up in a "before-and-after" narrative with the startup as the disruptive force behind the change

Why do most pitch decks fail?

99% of startup decks fail to secure funding . But that doesn’t have to be you.

Most founders make bad pitch presentations because they fail to communicate critical information investors need to qualify them. Which means they are automatically disqualified.

If you look at the best pitch decks (those that managed to get noticed and get funded), they all use a similar content structure.

It’s the same pitch deck template advised as a winning outline by Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital .

Don’t invent the wheel. Just learn from other’s successes and failures.

Let me show you some enviable pitch deck examples, and see why they worked so well.

Let’s go!

21 Successful pitch deck examples to learn from

It’s a basic fact that some pitch deck presentations work better than others.

I’m not gonna go into how to make a winning pitch deck here, but here’s the jist According to Naval Ravikant , Angellist co-founder and former CEO.

A fundable pitch deck showcases a fundable startup. To do this you need to demonstrate that you have 3 critical things 100% of investors are looking for: (1) exceptional team, (2) exceptional product, and (3) exceptional traction.

All the examples I’ll bring you here do this . Learn from them and make the adaptations to your own startup pitch.

NOTE: the deck presentations on this page are remakes of the original decks, using the orignial content but made interactive with Storydoc.

The originals would look quite old to you by now, and these interactive versions would most likely work better. Our data backs this up every day.

Airbnb startup pitch presentation

The Airbnb pitch deck is almost the perfect pitch deck in my opinion (that’s why it’s number 1 on the list). And now that we gave it an interactive remake I think it’s perfected.

This investor deck example covers everything an investor would need to want to get in on it.

The deck showcases a great product, market size and opportunity, business model, traction, competitors and competitive advantage, a serious team, financials, and even user testimonials.

It presents a broad (and universally felt) problem in simple terms, it presents the solution just as simply. And I love how it shows how the product is used in action in such simplicity. Makes it seem effortless.

Uber funding pitch deck

The Uber pitch deck example does everything right.

It grasps the transformation it promised to do in just 4 words “Next-Generation Car Service” (though I would replace “car” with “transportation”). It has a clear and crisp description of the problem in a single paragraph.

It outlines a massive market that they mean to disrupt. They present an evolving 4-stage revenue model far into the future (Uber Cab > Uber Driver > Uber Delivery > Uber Pay), and they present amazing traction.

No wonder Uber was so successful at raising money .

Netflix startup deck

Netflix had a great idea but they also weaved it into a great problem-solution narrative pitch deck. The problem? Outdated entertainment distribution. The solution? Streamed entertainment that’s accessible, personalized, and ad-free.

The Netflix pitch deck example also uses their team to “sell” their dream by playing on Netflix’s strong company culture .

This pitch deck could have been slightly better if it had a comprehensive outline of the market gap.

Tinder pitch presentation

Tinder's pitch deck is a masterclass in simplicity .

Starting from their title: “The dating game: it starts with a swipe”. Which wasn’t true at the time but is now (like it or not) the new normal.

And down to their summary of the user flow: “Match. Chat. Date.”

Simple, yet super clear.

Tinder’s deck is also one of the most fun decks I’ve ever seen . I’ve breezed through it maybe a dozen times but still, it gets me excited about the app every time.

WeWork startup pitch deck

The WeWork pitch deck example is probably the most famous on this list. What makes it so great (beyond its fundraising success) is that it managed to sell a great vision.

WeWork’s deck is all about its grand vision - “Empowering Tomorrow's World at Work”.

They only topped it off with a bit of promising financials to quiet an uneasy investor’s mind.

After all, WeWork managed to sell a low-return real estate company as a fast-growing high-tech solution.

Slack company intro deck

Slack’s startup company intro deck uses a transformational narrative framework to take potential investors from Slack’s history to Slack’s future and tempt investors to join the journey.

The snappy and descriptive title for the deck and company - “Collaboration platform for 21st century” encapsulates this contrast between past and future.

It’s a beautiful piece of copywriting.

The transformational narrative sets the stage for winners (who embrace the change Slack represents) and losers who stay behind.

This plays on an investor’s biggest fear - missing a great opportunity and staying behind.

Dropbox pitch deck

The DropBox pitch deck is another example of a very well-made pitch deck. So it’s no surprise they were backed by Sequoia .

They did great work in applying Sequoia’s pitch deck template with an emphasis on “ why now? ” and “ why you? ”.

But they did even better. The deck includes a crisp and simple breakdown of the problem and their groundbreaking solution, and an attractive product demo.

If I may say so, I think we improved the deck by turning bullet points into dynamic content and adding their amusing and tempting video in their “about us” slide.

Tesla investor deck

The Tesla pitch deck is unique on this list because of its emphasis on the team and product specifications rather than the “big idea”.

The reason for this is that Tesla did not invent the wheel (or the car rather). Their success relies on their technological superiority in the automotive industry rather than a completely new solution.

Tesla’s deck focuses on showing a strong team with Elon Musk at the helm, a growing engineering corp, a growing client base, and the technical specifications and features that ensure Tesla will win the race (pun intended).

YouTube product pitch deck

The YouTube pitch deck is a classic winning startup deck. It has all 6 aspects that make a pitch deck fundable (which we’ve covered above). But it does it effortlessly, without fuss.

YouTube’s investor deck introduces the problem they solve in the context of an emerging market gap (“why now?”). They also position themselves as the first solution to market and have amazing traction stats to back it up.

It just immediately looks like a great opportunity, and it was.

Y Combinator seed deck template

The Y Combinator pitch deck example is not really a pitch deck but rather a mock seed deck that follows the content template recommended by YC .

The guys at YC had some fun with it and filled the deck with sarcastic comments and ridiculous emojis.

It’s a top-notch example of content structure , but I wouldn’t recommend emulating the playful (borderline mocking) tone of voice or the reckless use of emojis.

Sequoia pitch deck template

The Sequoia pitch deck example , much like the Y Combinator example is not a real pitch deck. It’s Sequoia Capital’s pitch deck template which they advise startups to use when they pitch their idea in their Sequoia application .

Sequoia’s deck includes their signature slide “why now” which some of the other decks on our list apply. But also has another important slide “ the ask ”, where you’re supposed to ask how much money you need and how you intend to put it to good use.

This particular pitch deck is for the healthcare industry , but the template can be used cross-industry.

Adunify AdTech investment deck

This deck by Adunify is a powerful example of how a small up-and-coming startup can use the winning content framework to look like an exciting game-changer .

Adunify built their deck along the transformational narrative framework . This lets them present a dry (though innovative) marketing solution as a tool for changing users’ lives for the better.

They start with the vision and go through the established problem-solution presentation and market analysis, but throw in proven results, customer testimonials, and their manifesto as reinforcement.

Cannasoft medical cannabis pitch deck

The Cannasoft startup investor deck was built with interactive storytelling in mind by a Storydoc client.

It pitches Cannasoft as the CRM Platform for the Medical Cannabis Market and demonstrates why they are positioned to become the industry standard.

The deck makes full use of Storydoc’s scrollytelling capabilities which breaks down complex information into simple and easy-to-understand bite-size morsels.

Just take a look at how they present their market fit, roadmap, product advantages, and financial forecast. Pure storytelling gold.

Crypto pitch deck

This blockchain technology startup pitch deck is a made-up template based on some of our best-performing client crypto pitch decks.

The s tructure follows the winning formula as all the rest and the beautiful designs were generated or selected by our AI design engine.

Physical product pitch deck

Pitching a physical product is harder than pitching a SaaS product.

Most products of this kind have established alternatives so it’s very important to give some technical explanation of how you’re doing it better.

But the most important aspect here is showing your product rather than telling investors about it.

People find it easier to understand objects through seeing and (better yet) touching them.

This physical product pitch deck was designed to help you demonstrate your product visually in with high-resolution videos and images.

You can go here to check out more product presentation templates .

This VC pitch deck example follows the optimal structure and narrative approach you should use when pitching a VC.

It was built and perfected based on feedback from our clients, our platform’s engagement data, and input from VCs.

I recommend this VC pitch deck template to use in your next round, unless you’re pitching Sequoia, in which case we have a specific template for that.

AI technology investment deck

This pitch deck for AI technology grabbed my attention because it takes a no-image approach to design.

It’s very easy to fall into cliches when making a deck about AI, with visuals of astronauts, robots, or magic wands. But you can be sure every other AI presentation does the same thing.

That’s why no-image will seem to investors like a breath of fresh air, and would likely make you stand out.

But most importantly, this deck gives you the winning content framework to present your complex technology in a flowing, easy-to-follow interactive narrative that investors won’t get bored of mid-way.

Start-up business plan

This pitch presentation example is useful during your 3rd meeting with VCs , after you’ve introduced your company and your big idea.

This deck takes what you covered in the subsequent intro deck and product deck and goes deeper into the plan with more detailed growth strategy, product roadmap, and projections.

One of the nicest additions this deck introduces is personalization . Since you know who the reader is by this point, you can address them by name with a personal message.

Startup company overview presentation

This example pitch deck is great for more established startups that have some clients and traction to show for.

It’s meant to be used for corporate partnerships, series B and C investment rounds , or with investors who are already acquainted with the company.

The deck provides solid numbers of the company's activity, traction, and customer feedback.

Startup executive summary one-pager

This executive summary example is exactly what it sounds like - a summary of the points covered in your investor pitch deck.

This deck is used after your meeting with Angel investors, VC, or private equity to briefly recap what you presented in your pitch deck.

You should make adaptations to your startup executive summary so that it includes the information and covers the issues that investors were most interested in during your pitch presentation.

We also have executive summary slide templates if you want to take a look...

Post-round investor newsletter by Xtend

I thought that ending the list with this example would be poetic since this startup deck is a post-round newsletter to investors.

The point of this deck is to communicate the contribution of investor’s backing to the success of the company.

This deck does 2 things really well:

First, it gives voice to the startup leaders to speak directly to investors about the impact their money has made, thereby deepening their connection to the company and making future investments more plausible.

Second, the deck gives shape and form to the cutting-edge physical product the startup produced, which makes its success feel more tangible than words, numbers, and graphs.

12 Startup Pitch Deck Examples [+ Template]

pitch-deck-template-hero

A great startup pitch deck is an integral part of launching a business. This deck is presented to prospective investors to convince them to invest and help you grow your startup . The trick to having the best pitch deck possible is to include enough information to explain your goals and methodology without losing your audience’s interest.

Pitch decks are usually in PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, or Google Slides to make them easier to present to potential investors. However, the deck can also have an alternative format like a Word document or even a video. For inspiration, let’s go through some successful startup pitch deck examples and discuss what they got right.

Pitching_to_Investors

Pitch Deck Basics

There are some overarching characteristics that make for a great pitch deck. While we’ll go through what a deck typically includes and some relevant business pitch examples, you can pick and choose certain elements as long as your startup pitch deck has the following basic qualities:

  • Design-forward: Customers expect a better experience with your product and that’s achieved through better UX and graphic design. Show your team’s design chops with thoughtful deck design and mock-ups.
  • Comprehensive: Be prepared to answer any questions from potential investors. Your slides should cover enough so if they check back for reminders after the presentation, they’ll find the most important information.
  • Engaging: A startup pitch deck inevitably includes some boring elements. Your job is to keep it exciting and break up information-heavy slides with features like illustrations and block quotes.
  • Straightforward: It’s easy to get caught up with sharing every detail, but it’s more important that your potential investors understand your pitch. For more complicated slides and ideas, pare down your pitch to make it easier to understand.

1. Problem Slide

Your pitch deck should open with a key problem — this is the whole justification for your business and why consumers will find it valuable. A common structure for this slide is to bullet pain points and create a story your potential investors can relate to.

The problem slide is the basis for your presentation. Creating a relatable story makes for an engaging presentation that’s easy to follow and understand.

Uber Example

Why it works : Although it’s not the most visually engaging, Uber’s business pitch example clearly explains how Uber solves key issues with traditional cabs. Uber’s deck is broken down into multiple slides to deliver all the necessary information without overwhelming the audience.

2. Solution slide

After presenting the problem, you should follow up directly with a solution. An effective solution slide structure covers current industry solutions and identifies the gaps your startup fills. This slide has a general overview of any proprietary technology, covers basic product features, and includes relevant interface mock-ups to show investors what your product will do for consumers.

Intercom Example

Why it works : Intercom’s solution slide is simple but effective. While some extra design could elevate this slide, the bullet points are easy to understand and effectively explain Intercom’s unique selling proposition (USP) in the SaaS market.

3. Market validation slide

Market validation is especially important to investors because it shows proof that there are people who will purchase your product. This slide should include any relevant statistics for current sales if your startup has launched or competitors’ sales if it hasn’t. Don’t forget to cover basic information about your target market, their purchasing power, and their habits in your industry. This slide is especially important if your prospective investors aren’t familiar with your product or industry.

LinkedIn Example

Why it work s: At 37 pages, LinkedIn’s pitch deck is longer than we’d recommend.  But what it lacks in brevity it makes up for with powerful market validation using clear data from top competitors. It also breaks down barriers to growth and revenue for these competitors and shows how LinkedIn would improve their models.

4. Market size slide

Market size goes hand in hand with market validation. Once you’ve confirmed your target market has enough purchasing power, you need to justify your product’s longevity.

Focus on continued sales. The two most common elements to ensure your startup brings in long-term revenue are:

  • A very large market
  • A business model built for continuous purchases (e.g., subscription models)

Facebook Example

Why it works: Facebook is the poster child for successful startups. Its market size slides effectively communicate how Facebook’s initial launches succeeded and justify further growth. The slides with market statistics about college students also explain clearly how Facebook will create revenue.

5. Product slide

The product slide is your chance to nail your pitch and sell your vision to investors. This slide should center your value proposition. A popular strategy for this section is to pose a few questions about your industry and show how your product is the answer. Take the time to craft this slide carefully, polishing it up from the copy to design details.

Dropbox Example

Why it works: Dropbox’s product slides are effective because they show how Dropbox truly innovates over other file sharing services. They justify why now is the time to launch and why consumers will choose Dropbox over competitors.

6. Business model slide

The business model slide covers how the startup will run and launch its product for sustainable growth. This section can compare your startup to other businesses or use internal data if the product has launched.

Moz Example

Why it works : While some of these slides can look busy, Moz’s business model was ahead of its time by calling out why organic marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) have untapped potential. This deck does a good job of explaining the business model to investors who might not be SEO savvy.

But wait...there's more!

7. market adoption slide.

It’s important to show some proof that your target market has interest in purchasing your product, especially if there are other competitors in the market. This is a lot easier if your product has already launched because you can include sales data. If your startup is pre-launch, showing potential market adoption can be tricky. In this case, you can use social proof from similar competitors. If you do this, it’s also important to note how your product differs from these competitors, especially if you can resolve a customer’s complaint. If possible, include case studies in the market adoption slide. These show proof that you can use investments to increase the reach of your startup.

Buffer Example

Why it works : Buffer’s market adoption slides show social proof through key statistics outlining Buffer’s success so far. With an extremely high profit margin and growth rate for their user base, Buffer shows off why their product will offer a larger ROI for potential investors.

8. Competition slide

Many investors look at your competition to help contextualize your startup. If an investor has little or no experience in your vertical, showing competitors they’re familiar with gives them real examples of success. This slide should cover the following topics related to your competition:

  • Revenue data
  • What competitors do well
  • What competitors don’t do well
  • How your startup bridges product gaps

Mint Example

Why it works : Mint’s competitor slides are effective because they show current competitors along with future projections for these competitors. This slide effectively shows how Mint creates more value for customers over time and uses competitors as inspiration in their defensive strategy.

9. Team slide

A team slide helps investors get to know the minds behind your startup. Include information about founders, leadership, and top existing investors to show why your team is qualified to launch this startup. Any evidence of past successes with your leadership, consultants, or investors is important to include, as it shows new investors that you have relevant experience to launch your startup. If there’s any relevant history about your startup, such as a higher ROI than expected for a former investor, be sure to include this in your pitch deck.

Contently Example

Why it works : While Contently’s team slide has a lot of information, it’s all relevant to potential investors. In addition to founders and investors, Contently includes top employees, proprietary technology, advisors, and the amount they’ve raised so far. This, along with their financial model slide, show potential investors that Contently will make good use of their investment and even make them some profit.

10. Press slide

The press section of your startup pitch deck is a great opportunity to show off any buzz and get your investors excited about your business. Focus on positive reviews or attention related to your product. Stay away from negative press unless you can show you’ve changed those negative opinions. Make sure to keep these slides focused and succinct. It’s easy to get caught up in showing off product buzz, but press slides should always demonstrate potential for a more widespread product adoption.

Snapchat example

Why it works : Snapchat was in a unique position at the time this deck was created, as its press slide has strong social proof. Snapchat calls out popular users, including press and media sources, that are already using the app. The wide variety of users, including household names like MTV, shows how Snapchat is a well-known social media platform.

11. Testimonial slide

Testimonials give investors insight into what existing customers really think about your product. Testimonials can also shed light on the public perception of your product, especially compared to competitors.

Seventy-two percent of consumers only take action after reading positive reviews. You can use this logic with your potential investors, too.

Positive testimonials show that your customers have brand loyalty and that users are satisfied with the product and customer service. This section of the startup pitch deck is only possible for startups that have launched their product.

AirBnB Example

Why it works : Not every pitch deck includes testimonials, especially if the startup hasn’t launched, but it makes sense to include feedback for Airbnb. Showcasing new users makes this slide simple yet effective. It could also benefit from including average Airbnb ratings for stronger evidence of positive reception.

12. Financial model slide

The financial model slide shows how your product creates revenue. For example, if your product is a subscription-based service, has premium features, or other horizontal integration, you’ll explain that model on these slides. Potential investors should walk away from your presentation knowing exactly how your startup creates revenue and understand any plans to ensure a steady stream of income.

Shopify Example

Why it works : Shopify offers a great pitch deck example of when breaking some pitch norms can work in your favor. Although it’s nearly 30 slides, the entire deck is informative and engaging. The financial model slides work well because they show how Shopify and its past investors turned a profit. Not only do they explain their current financial model, but Shopify also covers their plans for future growth to reassure investors they’ll make a profit, too.

What should you avoid putting in a startup pitch deck?

The best pitch deck is completely tailored to your startup. While there’s no hard-and-fast rule about what you shouldn’t include, make sure everything you’re presenting is relevant to potential investors.

How do I present my startup pitch deck to investors?

It’s almost always better to present a pitch deck live to investors. Designate one member of your leadership team, ideally a founder, to present your deck to investors.

Following a script can come across as disingenuous, but using notes is OK, so get lots of practice in before you present to investors.

What should a startup pitch deck include?

A typical startup pitch deck template includes the following slides:

  • Market validation
  • Market size
  • Business model
  • Market adoption
  • Competition
  • Testimonials
  • Financial model

However, every pitch deck is different, so your final pitch might skip some of these topics or use multiple slides to expand on certain sections.

We can almost hear the faint echo of Scooby-Doo’s “ Ruh Roh! ” from the startup scene.

meme Scooby-Doo

But worry not. Renderforest knows the reliable formula for creating a winning pitch deck – even if you have only 2:42 minutes to present the whole thing.

In this thorough guide, we’ve collected everything you need to nail that pitch deck – from the ABCs to the actual examples of winning decks and templates .

  • the best pitch decks of all time and their recipe for success,

Anatomy of an Effective Pitch Deck for Startups

Investor and serial entrepreneur Alejandro Cremades claims around 10 slides are enough for a winning investor pitch deck . Among these, the three most crucial slides that investors usually pay attention to are Financials, Team, and Competition – the core aspects that help them understand your startup’s potential for success.

This can be considered the raw ingredients of a successful pitch deck. However, your recipe might have different proportions and additives depending on the round of financing you’re raising, the sector you’re pitching in, the size of your business, and the current market trends.

Here’s how you should approach the process to find out what to include in the deck to match your specific needs.

Understanding the Purpose

Switch off your marketing hat and put on the investor one. Ask yourself: “ What’s in it for them? “, “ Would I be impressed with this idea as an investor? “

If you feel your initial pitch deck structure can leave investors on the fence, and if the hook is not strong enough, it’s time to rework the structure and add more relevant details that will make them feel invested.

There’s a formula that works in 99.9% of cases. It’s called being concise, relevant, and clear .

You should cut to the chase and transfer the most important information with a few words.

  • What’s the problem your startup is trying to solve? ( Think twice, triple, or more to be absolutely confident the problem touches a wider audience )
  • How is your startup going to solve this problem? ( Ensure it’s not a “We think that’s going to work” type of solution but rather a “This is how we are going to do it” approach )
  • Spice up your declarative statements with numbers . ( Nothing personal, but if numbers don’t back up your statements – your statements won’t back you up )

To recapitulate, find that hook, that point that will make investors believe in the potential of your startup and the necessity of your product. Then formulate it in the clearest way possible.

Here’s how AirBnB once did it .

Structuring Your Pitch Deck

As said before, the best pitch decks rotate around 10 slides. Usually, the must-haves include the following.

  • Introduction
  • Problem and solution (can be merged or separate)
  • Numbers, Figures, Statistics
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Market Analysis
  • Financial Projections
  • Team Profile
  • Conclusion/Thank You Page/Contact

Structure your pitch deck now

The business world considers these to be the key elements for a successful pitch deck, as by including them all, you cover the entire story of your startup. So, while you can modify your brand deck structure according to your needs, take advantage of everything crucial.

On top of that, feel free to restructure your order of slides if it helps you to make a better flow.

For example, if you’re raising money for a product already on the market, it might be better to start with your product and team info instead of the problem. On the contrary, if you’re pre-launch, it is better to start with the problem and focus on your product afterward, as investors need to understand why your solution is necessary and how you will solve the problem before they even learn what the solution is.

Design Principles and Best Practices

Because human brains are wired to process visuals faster than text, visuals are considered to be 50 times more memorable than textual content . So, your key figures and core messaging should be presented as infographics, charts, diagrams, and illustrations to capture the necessary attention.

We won’t go into much detail about styling pitch deck visuals here, as you already have a huge library of pitch deck templates by Renderforest already designed according to the best practices of corporate design.

pitch deck example

Instead, here are some tips on which colors and fonts work best based on the most effective pitch deck examples.

White, gray, and blue are considered to be one of the most suitable color palettes for corporate-style presentations . Best pitch decks use these colors as a background and accentuate the key points with bright or dark accents, as these neutral tones are associated in human brains with reliability, trust, intelligence, balance and other positive features.

Scientists have found the highest correlation between Times New Roman and Helvetica fonts and the formal, legible perception of the text . And the font psychology says Sans Serif fonts such as Square, Humanist, Grotesque, Geometric and similar are very suitable for modern devices . These fonts associate with clean-looking, clear, and efficient content. Meanwhile, San Serif fonts’ letters require less space and are better displayed on desktop and mobile screens.

These rules are not set in stone, but the best pitch decks follow them, so it’s recommended to keep them in mind.

Best Startup Pitch Decks

Here’s a classic version of the startup pitch template with a minimalistic design with a white background and turquoise-green accent. This pitch deck pack features 24 scenes you can filter to collect the needed slides.

The font color is dark blue – the ideal color for presentation titles and subtitles, as it is associated with intelligence and trust. Scenes include minimum visuals, yet the arrangement of elements and the font choice is completely eye-catching, leaving you enough space to focus on the content.

There are all standard pages that the best agency pitch decks are expected to have – competitor analysis, team, user feedback, service popularity with numbers, etc. So, this could be a great choice if you need to create a comprehensive yet classic and minimalistic presentation. You will have no shortage of slides to present your entire story. Meanwhile, slides are not visually heavy, so you can be sure the audience won’t get overwhelmed with information.

A minimalistic cover with dark blue background features the project title and a short description. If your company is established and has already made some noise, you can add the company logo here. If you need to showcase anything more, you can upload it on the cover – the overall formal impression will remain intact.

Corporate Pitch Deck

If you need a more customizable pitch deck template that gives you more creative opportunities, this is your best choice. This pitch deck corporate presentation includes 235 scenes ( no typo, the number is real ) for companies with a lot to share or those needing a huge pool of design ideas to mix elements until they come up with the best look.

This pitch template is more dynamic in terms of colors – white background, green and purple accents – a combination that works perfectly for creative industries. This color blend catches the eye and adds some playfulness to the formal corporate look.

The pack includes different styles of pitch deck examples to choose from. There are text-heavy slides, image-heavy pages, and more balanced, minimalistic designs that leave space to relax the eyes of the viewers.

As the best pitch decks are about the right balance between text and visuals, you’ll have plenty of choices here to create the perfect look for your presentation.

The cover is very minimalistic – plain white background and the company title. This simplicity can make an even bigger statement about your startup.

Professional Pitch Deck

Need a more pastel-colored, creative investor pitch deck that features soft colors and is not afraid to have many team members’ photos? This professional pitch deck includes 120 scenes with a light pink and blue pastel color palette that works great for creative industries and startups.

Thanks to a milder design, this pitch deck template is attractive to the audience but still keeps the professionalism and trustworthiness of a corporate presentation. However, though the common rules of formal approach are kept, these brand decks will better suit companies in creative industries or services closer to consumer psychology.

Why? Because pink usually speaks about playfulness, nurturing, and romantic feelings, and these are hardly the feelings you want to evoke if your startup, let’s say, is in the AI industry. However, if you are in the fashion industry, for example, this pitch presentation will work perfectly!

120 scenes are more than enough to collect your desired pitch deck structure. And with the cover design options focusing on the startup’s team photos, you can emphasize the human side of the business and build trust among potential investors.

Business Plan Pitch Deck

Closing the list of the best investor pitch decks from Renderforest with a business plan with a deck pack that features a gradient purple and peach color palette that softens the visual impression. That’s a basic pitch template – consisting of only 17 scenes and containing only the very necessary slides, such as vision, mission, goals, business plan, and questions.

Who can this brand deck be most useful for? It’s a great choice for those who don’t have so much content to share yet need a full-fledged presentation. Short but informative, this business plan is best used for sharing an idea with potential investors at the early stages of the product.

A potential drawback is the lack of slides with rich figures and data, as other pitch deck samples of this list have. However, if you’re still in the early stages of your project and still need to get all the data to share, this template can be your best choice.

1. Facebook

Facebook Pitch Deck

Back in 2004, when Facebook was not what it is today, the company owners had a crystal-clear understanding of their potential customers. Who are they? What’s their purchase power, and which part of their budget is reserved for the service? All these questions were answered in their pitch deck in great detail, awakening trust in the company’s success.

Additionally, Facebook had a clear action plan of what they were going to do and how. That’s one of the best pitch decks for a reason – it ensures the investors that their money isn’t going to be lost on a project without an action plan.

  • Even if and especially if your startup is bringing an innovative product, be confident in your statements and ensure you transfer your detailed plan of action to make that revolutionary idea well-accepted by the public .
  • Have detailed and realistic calculations behind your statements. Let data speak for itself.

The first slide is a brilliant trigger for an investor pitch deck. Storage is a mess – at times, Dropbox was launching its solution, and this messy picture was relatable to almost everyone. The rest is even more convincing – as the company has a very detailed analysis of the current market situation – what consumers are looking for and what currently exists from the competitors’ side.

We especially loved how clearly Dropbox explains its features – no extra words to distract the attention, just a few points that make them stand out. That’s a great way to present your unique selling propositions and add more weight to the investors’ decision-making.

  • Work well on your brand deck hook. Ensure your highlighted problem triggers people at once .
  • Know your customers and competitors well. Be fully acquainted with every nuance of your niche to prove you can improve it.

TouristEye Personalizing The Travel Experience

Did we already say Airbnb has one of the best pitch decks of all time? We want to state that again!

Showing 560M serviceable available market out of 2 billion + available total market is an undeniable statement of how great a potential Airbnb has. It also has an impressive competitor analysis – a creatively pictured visual graph with few words which clearly highlight the gaps Airbnb is going to fill.

And we loved the closing. Here they have a clear dialogue – we need a precisely estimated amount of money for specifically planned results.

  • Try to present your research results and findings in a format other than words – be creative and use original graphs, charts, or any other visual tools.
  • Be absolutely precise about the capital you need and estimate which real results you can show investors with that money .

UberCab pitch deck

The famous taxi company did a good trick. It looked at the market gaps and inconveniences from two sides – from the perspective of clients and drivers. That’s one of the best pitch decks that justifies the urgent need for the product from both sides.

What’s unique among the best pitch decks presented in this list so far is that Uber presented potential outcomes of their business plan – best-case scenario, realistic scenario, and worst-case one. That’s an inspiring way to demonstrate how well the team thinks through their idea and is ready for any possible outcome.

  • Try to have a comprehensive look at all the stakeholders that are going to be impacted by your product – clients, employees, affiliates and the public.
  • Show your responsible approach by having your action plan’s possible outcomes well estimated . Be prepared to act in any situation.

Buffer pitch deck

One of the best SaaS pitch decks –  Buffer’s one is the closest to what we describe as a golden standard of modern-day presentations. It has 13 pages, is well structured, and contains only the key points needed to put the idea out there.

One of the best startup pitch decks – Buffer’s presentation- contains detailed milestones of what the company has achieved and intends to do next. This detailed timeline with dates and numbers helps to build trust in the team’s proficiency and the journey they have ahead.

  • Try to accommodate all your important points in 10-15 pages at most. If you can say it in fewer words, do it . Short pitch deck examples are more inviting to read.
  • Clearly document all your important achievements so you can further present a clear and detailed history of your progress. Record dates of important events and the results you achieved.

MatchBox ex tinder Pitch deck

Tinder wasn’t always called Tinder. When it started as a Match Box, the company made one of the best startup pitch decks, which is out of the ordinary in its structure and flow.

Instead of the standard problem-solution scheme ( the effectiveness of which we do not underestimate ), the company starts its brand deck with the story of Matt – a guy that’s a prototypical representative of Tinder’s target audience. He wants to talk to a girl at the party, but he’s shy – all the traits that this niche audience can easily relate to.

  • Don’t be afraid to go out of the box with your brand deck structure . If your creative juices are flowing and you can describe your suggested product and why it’s so necessary for a specific target audience group with an inventive approach, don’t limit yourself to standard slides.

WeWork Series D Pitch Deck

Well, WeWork is considered one of the best pitch decks due to its robust analytical and research data. It’s very detailed in its explanation of how it is going to change the office rental industry as a whole and what kind of services it will provide.

WeWork has done an excellent job of outlining the global market for co-working spaces and how it is set to grow exponentially. Just looking at this investor pitch deck is enough to realize this company knows what it’s doing. It also shows a detailed plan with costings and the 5-year projection.

  • That’s not a common rule for every company ( and actually, you need a company with a good history to do it ), but if you can thoroughly analyze all data pertaining to your business, do it . Not only will you impress investors, but the company will have a clear path for the next years with a good chance of success.

TikTok Pitch Deck

The widely embraced social media phenomenon, TikTok, had its product developed in every detail when preparing this investor pitch deck. This allowed them to focus on the user experience and present a detailed explanation of how their product works and why it has the potential to become one of the most popular apps on the market.

Having screenshots of the final product with elaborate descriptions of the design and features is a winning play as it gives investors a taste of what the app offers and how it can be profitable.

  • Again, this depends on which product development phase you apply for the investor’s pitch. If you have a finished product or can include at least a prototype for investors to see , that’s a great way to show the potential of your product.

9. BuzzFeed

Buzzfeed pitch deck

The next on our list of the best pitch decks is BuzzFeed. What we loved about their investor pitch deck was the competitor analysis presented with the Venn diagram. This approach is a great way to compare the company’s product with similar products already on the market and show their intersecting points.

BuzzFeed also does a great job explaining its key differentiators and the development perspectives – where we are, where we are headed, and how big this can become. This cascading down from a big picture to the specifics is very helpful for investors to understand how this product can become profitable.

Lastly, they didn’t mention only founders or CEOs in the team slide as many others do. The list goes down to advisors, developers, designers, and editors, which, in our view, shows a more human-centered approach that is very inviting.

  • Get creative with competitor analysis. Use diagrams and charts to cut through the noise and clearly present all positions.
  • Go beyond the founders and CEOs of your startup when introducing the team .

SEOmoz Pitch Deck

We are in love with the initial statement on Moz’s pitch template’s cover. This brief sentence conveys a wealth of information about the company’s previous journey and where it’s heading now + it adds much confidence to the team and their project.

Further, they did a great mix of storytelling and a truly deep analysis of their industry, competitors, and the existing market. We especially liked the detailed breakdown of Moz’s target market and its distribution.

And the unique point – Moz presents potential acquisitions that could take place in the future as part of their roadmap.

  • Work hard on how you first introduce your startup to investors . Start your brand deck with an impressive statement that succinctly introduces you and awakes interest.
  • Some say storytelling is dead – but it’s only if there’s no data to back it up. Moz did a great analysis of all the aspects that investors must consider .

11. LinkedIn

Linkedin Series B Pitch Deck

What a brilliant problem slide – LinkedIn lists three popular ways of professional people search at the moment and how they are inefficient. Further, they nailed it by presenting LinkedIn as a Professional People Search 2.0, comparing it to the successful companies of other fields that transformed how things worked before.

These parallels are drawn throughout the whole pitch deck that makes its main point clear: LinkedIn will be the next generation of professional people search focused on user-based networks, a model that is already proven to work in the examples of Google, eBay, and Paypal.

We also loved how detailed and structured LinkedIn presents its superiority over its competitors. No loud words – just realistic calculations and comparisons showing their leading position creates high barriers to entry for the competition.

Key Points

  • Proving your chosen model works as others do is a great way to convince investors . Of course, you must ensure this comparison is accurate and relevant to your product.
  • Don’t get unnecessarily shy when it comes to bragging about your achievements. Highlight your competitive advantages and put them in the context of real numbers that investors can understand.

12. Coinbase

Coinbase Pitch Deck

Here you can see one of the most concise pitch decks where the team is super laconic in presenting their project. The winning maneuver here is tying the first part of the brand deck to Bitcoin – a global currency, the popularity of which is growing exponentially.

Further, the company merges the Bitcoin potential and its product by presenting Coinbase as the easy-to-use Bitcoin wallet compared to all other complex solutions existing in the market.

And the cherry on top? It draws a parallel between the connection of Coinbase and Bitcoin and iTunes and MP3 to create associations of success and reliability.

  • Less is more, and we can’t state that enough. Your presentation can become one of the best pitch decks, even if it’s very simple and succinct in its wording .

13. Foursquare

Foresquare pitch deck

We give the awards for the “most detailed and clear explanation of the product” to Foursquare. This is one of the best startup pitch decks if your startup is at the beginning of its journey and has just released the product’s first version.

If you are at your starting point, this type of detailed brand deck can help you fully reveal the whole idea of the company. We recommend you take their writing style and the construction of the slides if there is a need to present your idea from scratch, and the lack of details can work against you.

  • If your startup is a complete novice and needs to build its reputation from scratch, create a detailed deck that will fully explain your vision .

14. Snapchat

Snapchat business pitch deck

More a user-centered presentation of how the product can be used rather than a pitch deck for investors, Snapchat’s presentation anyways finds its place in our list of best pitch decks. Why? Because they are mastering the art of product demonstration – you feel like you are about to use the product already when you see their slides.

What’s the secret behind it? Very personal and honest style of sharing information + the team behind Snapchat developed a great philosophy before they launched the product – embracing the moment and unguarded conversations.

  • Come up with a deep and well-thought-out idea that will support your product. It will create a strong foundation for your communication with potential users or investors.
  • Tie your tone of voice to the philosophy of the product to create a comprehensive picture and make users feel like they are a part of the story.

15. YouTube

Well, YouTube’s early-stage presentation is not as visually appealing and modern-looking as others in our best pitch decks list. But we want you to look at it from another perspective – how with just an idea and a few slides, the YouTube team managed to convey their vision of how the product will look at its full capacity.

Here, the emphasis is mostly on the genius idea behind the startup – videos exist as isolated files, and something should be done with that. The team behind YouTube managed to find the right pain point that triggered many in the gradually growing digital era. And if your idea is worthy, it can win over investors even without an outstanding presentation. Just a clear presentation of a great idea.

  • Without underestimating the importance of a good presentation, don’t forget that a worthy idea is what lies at the core of success . So be sure to think it through and come up with something unique that will spark interest.

16. Crunchbase

Crunchbase Pitch Deck

Well, here’s another great example of mixing creative and analytical approaches – the Crunchbase pitch deck. They perfectly promote their value as a private company prospecting space with a hook – the public company market is shrinking, while private companies are the way to go. Meanwhile, many professionals strive to get opportunities in the private market. Added the thoughtfully picked visuals of ice fissure – and the viewers fall into the feeling of the cold inaccessible world of private companies where they need help.

It’s also worth mentioning Crunchbase is the first in our list of best pitch decks of all time that presents a growth engine. It’s a great way to demonstrate the effectiveness of your project and show investors how it can reach its full potential.

  • If your muse just woke up, complement your statements with visuals that strengthen the emotional impact of your project . Visuals are a universal language that can help you win the hearts of many.
  • Design a growth engine that is achievable and based on real numbers and projections.

17. Peloton

Peloton Pitch Deck

Here’s something new we haven’t talked about before. Peloton has one of the best investor pitch decks due to the detailed brand wheel on which they built their whole presentation.

The brand wheel is a clear graph showing the core four aspects necessary for investors to understand the whole idea of the product and how it fits into the market. In more simple terms, the brand wheel shows the brand-customer relationship from many angles – from what the startup team tries to convey to how it’s perceived by their customers.

We liked the brand strategy Peloton has – they have very detailed demographics and psychographics of their target audience. Consequently, they know which messaging and visuals are the most suitable for their potential customers.

  • Have a brand wheel to track the unnoticed areas of your consumers’ behavior . Knowing what your target audience wants and needs is the key to success in many marketing campaigns. And if you can prove to investors you have the key to your target audience’s hearts, the chances your startup will get investments are much higher.

18. Wayfair

Wayfair Pitch Deck

The pitch deck of Wayfair awakes emotions of comfy home life, as the colors and visuals bring a feeling of warmth and coziness to the viewer. That’s this investor pitch deck’s first success as Wayfair transforms how people shop for home furnishings and decor. So, if their presentation design alone can set the right emotional background, their desired impression is half made.

What further caught our attention were the detailed financials. Reconciliation of adjusted EBITDA, free cash flow, and illustrative customer acquisition cost – all of these elements are a great way to demonstrate how the company is developing and growing in the language of numbers that investors understand the best.

  • Leverage the power of financials to give the most real-life demonstration of the development and success of your company.
  • Play with colors and design elements in the background to convey the desired impression of your project.

19. Walmart

Walmart Flipkart Pitch Deck

Another one of the best startup pitch decks – Walmart shows the effectiveness of their investment in Flipkart Group. This eCommerce company can open new doors into an online market for Walmart.

This presentation demonstrates the effectiveness of the synergy between the two companies – Walmart brings its offline network and expertise. At the same time, Flipkart Group provides an online presence and knowledge of the market.

Slide 7 is a good way to present your startup’s growth opportunity in a specific market. You can see Walmart included all the key metrics that comprehensively overview current and future opportunities. It’s a good example of deep analytical data that shows the growth rate in the market, added detailed data about potential customers and their characteristics.

  • If you aim to show the investment potential of your company or project, break down all the key metrics into small pieces and demonstrate them clearly. Your investor pitch deck should show what each cooperation party brings to the table .

Bliss.ai Initial VC Raising Pitch Deck

Coming to Bliss, here’s one of the pitch decks with a great approach to justifying why they need the finance they need and why investors should pay attention now and not later.

Their financing slide is a good example of giving investors the WHY behind their investment. Here, Bliss provides precise data on when they can reach certain milestones and how their decisions will affect the company’s future. Isn’t it more impressive than just showing the number of cash they need?

We also love Bliss creating urgency by emphasizing engineering talent’s poor adaptability to the increasingly remote world. They provide investors with a clear understanding of how their investment can help them to bridge the gap between current and future states.

  • Create a sense of urgency explaining why the specific project is the right one to invest in at this particular moment .
  • Give the investors an understanding of what their investment can bring to the company and how it will lead to success. Show how your raised money will help you to reach the desired future state .

21. Launchrock

LaunchRock Pitch Deck

Best pitch decks can break the rules of standard structures, and Launchrock’s example is great proof of it.

There is no standard problem/solution slide that explains the pain point and how the product solves it. Instead, Launchrock used an unconventional approach – they just listed their key achievements so far (users, shares, etc.) and some examples of how customers use them.

Actually, it’s not about the standard structure that matters but the effectiveness of presenting your value and how it can be used. Launchrock was a successful example of this approach – they showed what they did and how it worked.

This investor pitch deck is wrapped up by a large team of investors and advisors – a great way to show the engagement of people who believe in your idea.

  • Rethink the structure of your pitch deck – don’t limit yourself to the traditional structure . As long as your presentation effectively conveys your project’s value, it’s all good.
  • If investors already believe in your project, include them in your brand deck to create a feeling of community .

22. Intercom

Intercom Pitch Deck

In contrast to the previous brand deck, Intercom’s presentation is a very standard one. That’s one of the best pitch decks that helped them raise funding for further development. Though you may find the content too plain and simple – that’s what made it effective.

The startup team tried to avoid overwhelming investors with complex information. You can see only the most critical information without further details or explanations.

What we loved a lot ( and that’s not the first time it proved effective ), they included very detailed expectations from investors in the presentation. There is a clear amount of money needed, a timeline, and even special conditions if the company can meet its own goals.

  • Investors make decisions easier if they see a clear structure and expectations from the team. Plan how your expected sum will be used and how long it will take to show some results to investors . With that roadmap at hand, they are more likely to trust you.

23. Shopify

Shopify Investor Deck

It seems it’s the first investor pitch deck that includes a success story of an existing client who already benefits from their product. DODOCASE’s use case illustration reveals Shopify’s value and effectiveness without any further explanations from the startup team. And what was a smart move, in our opinion, is that Shopify showed the gradual success of their client when they first Shopify’s standard version and then moved to Shopify Premium, boosting their results even further.

That’s a good trick to show well-structured subscription models and which benefits each user level gets.

What else? We also loved growth vectors, a specific way to demonstrate the key directions for the company’s development in terms of products and markets.

  • Have success stories of clients? That would be your best proof that the product is working and delivering results . If your startup doesn’t have one yet, you can run a few pilot projects and tell the stories of these clients in your pitch deck.
  • If your project is multidimensional and there are different stakeholders ( buyers, merchants, etc., like in the case of Shopify ), have clear growth vectors that show which areas you’re focusing on .

24. Mattermark

Mattermark pitch deck series

Oh, how much we love clearly formulated slogans. Mattermark presents itself like a Google for business people, and that first-slide-first-impression vibe is hard to forget. Further, they show how Google addresses business people’s needs regarding information about investments, partners, and competitors, emphasizing the gaps in the market. That’s a good way to present a problem your startup is trying to solve.

This brand deck contains robust graphs and charts – something that shows the deep financial expertise of the team. The company’s previous performance and future development plans are illustrated with the help of very informative visuals.

  • Have advanced financial analytics to show a deep understanding of the market and your ability to forecast . Elaborate charts and graphs will leave no investor indifferent.

25. Biogrify

Biografy Pitch Deck

Another nonconformist pitch deck example – no financials to demonstrate the company’s performance, no case studies, and no detailed problem statements.

Instead, Biogrify made a nice presentation with real examples of how the product looks and works in different scenarios. You can get the first impression of the product and how it works without a single word – just an example of posts shared on their social network.

We liked the colors and the creative examples of the platform, which were picked carefully to show the universal nature of the product. Overall, a great way to hook investors in the first slides – even without many statements about the potential of your startup.

  • We have talked about it before. Real examples of a product’s usage are better than any words as they provide real context and show how the product works without further explanation.

Piccsy Pitch Deck

Did we say short and concise? Piccsy heard that. This investor presentation has only four slides with the most straightforward structure.

First, what’s the problem? The problem slide is very comprehensive. A detailed bubble chart shows all the possible directions where the Piccsy team can move, and the simple pictorial illustration of each direction makes understanding easy. This slide shows the team’s clear vision and understanding of the market they are entering.

What’s coming next? Solution! That’s not as robust as the problem slide, but quite impressive in its way. There is a straightforward intro of the main directions where this social network can help users stream their desired content.

The last slide is about the team behind Piccsy. Short. Quick. That’s all you need to know.

Well, it would be honest to say that presentations this short are not the best idea for early-stage startups. And don’t forget about the +- 10 pages standard that prevails among investor pitch decks.

Still, that’s one of the best pitch decks in history, thanks to its straightforward language and the ability to say more with less.

  • We probably highlight here the problem’s slide structure which can be very useful for any startup . Show the market you’re entering and what possible directions your team can take in an advanced way.

27. Fyre Festival

Fyre comes with a big announcement. Their pitch deck promotes and announces the Fyre Festival along with product marketing, showcasing how deep the company’s roots are with music and influencers and the community-driven approach they had from the very beginning.

The style of the presentation deserves special attention. The slides are very minimalistic and with all the elements of high-class aesthetics. They perfectly translate the niche where Fyre positions itself – confident, stylish, and up-to-date.

And Fyre’s community of the most renowned artists of the time presented in the beginning. That’s a boom – speaking louder than any words.

  • Choose font colors, tone of voice, and composition of each slide with extra care to position your brand correctly . The correctly chosen design and writing style can hypnotize your investors, making them instantly feel the vibe you want to create.

28. TouristEye

TouristEye Personalizing The Travel Experience

Hmm… Not sure if we recommend you opt for the aggressive competitor comparison TouristEye did in its first slides, but they could display what they do unique in the competitive market, which is one of the key tasks of a good pitch deck.

The app’s screenshots demonstrate its features and user-friendly design without benefits-driven language. This approach is proven to be effective, and that’s not the first time we see it in successful startup presentations.

There is no team slide here, and that can be the approach that drives investor attention more to the product than to the team behind it.

  • Screenshots of the app in action are one of the most obvious and effective ways to demonstrate how your product works and what problems it solves . That kind of insight can instantly attract investors without explaining a lot.

29. Kickfolio

Kickfolio pitch deck

What about listing only the key things you want to share about your company without much detail? Kickfolio makes it, and that’s a good example to show how best pitch decks can also be concise.

It has a unique structure – very short in words and explanations; this investor pitch deck looks like an infographic with the key points about the company’s performance, team, and product features.

They start with the problem statement, continuing with the progress and reviews of users after Kickfolio’s launch and first success, and wrapping up with a laconic statement of how much money Kickfolio is looking to raise.

Though there are no case studies or detailed analytics, this pitch deck is still very powerful. It conveys the essence of Kickfolio and provides enough information for investors to get a general idea about the project.

And what we like about it the most – there are many user reviews about the product, which is not typical for a pitch deck – yet they speak louder than many case studies or graphs.

  • Include customer reviews or peer testimonials if you have them . If your product already has positive feedback, it will make the perfect addition to any startup pitch deck.

30. Mixpanel

Mixpanel Pitch Deck

Two problem statements – one better than the other – catch the attention from the very first slide. Mixpanel pitch deck clearly explains its mission and its product’s place in the market by touching on the pain point we all can relate to this or that way – making business decisions underlooking the importance of data.

Mixpanel’s brand deck has one of the most detailed performance slides we have ever seen. They show their sales and marketing KPIs and have a great expansion plan showing their way to conquer the market.

Seeing forecasted metrics, a timeline of their product development, and the relevance of their product to the industry make this pitch deck worth every second.

  • As much relevant data as possible – numbers, metrics, graphs – can help investors decide whether it’s worth investing . Show your product’s progress and forecasted performance through the years to impress investors.
  • Have an achievable expansion plan to show that you can grow and develop your product in a way that will get you more investors and customers.

Key Takeaways

Well, let’s wrap up this journey through the best pitch decks.

  • Though there are established standards that best pitch decks follow at some point, the most important standard for each investor pitch deck is to be comprehensive and convincing . Whatever creative approach you take, ensure your pitch deck leaves investors with an understanding of who you are and what you do. How to do a Pitch Deck Presentation (plus free templates!)

Carla Albinagorta

If you are in any kind of business or enterprise, you’re probably looking for every chance to make your company grow. Sadly, such opportunities don’t usually just fall from the sky. You need to convince your potential investors, clients, or partners to get the resources you need. And how do you convince them? With a Pitch Deck Presentation .

Here you can find a step by step guide on what your Pitch Deck should include. But since it is not always easy to do everything from scratch, here you can also find amazing templates, completely free. Their amazing visuals and diagrams will assure that you don’t only get your point across, but that you also stay on the mind of your audience after the presentation has already ended.

What is a Pitch Deck Presentation?

To get the funding you need for your company, you should look for investors. Now, there are thousands and thousands of businesses looking for wealthy investors. The way to stand out among all those other competitors is making them aware of your business potential. And how do you do this? Through a Pitch Deck.

A Pitch Deck is a brief presentation that you give to potential investors to convince them to bet their money in your company. It can be used face-to-face, or online. You can make a Pitch Deck presentation for a customer, or a client, or even a partner. The objective is to showcase your business plan, your product, and your over-all growth projections. In other words, you have to sell to your audience not only what your product is, but also what it could be .

investors pitch deck

You should plan carefully your Pitch Deck presentation. For a truly great presentation you’ll need a good understanding of both your own business and your potential investors. Consider the things that could be interesting for them. Maybe it is something that shows your business’ stability. Maybe it is the business model you’re going to implement. Or the expected ROI. But also consider the things about your company that are astounding and that differentiate it from the competition.

What to include in a Pitch Deck Presentation

There is some debate on how long a Pitch Deck presentation should be. Some say 10 slides should be more than enough to give a brief look over your business. Some say it should be 12. Others say 20 slides should be the absolute limit. So, which one is it?

One thing is for certain, it should not feel long. After all, you can have 40 slides and go through them faster than a 7-slide presentation filled with text. But, most likely, if anyone sees a 40-slide presentation their reaction will be of complete dread.  Boring your public even before you start is the worst idea, so try to keep it short and sweet as much as possible.

startup pitch deck template

I suggest a 12-sections for an ideal Pitch Deck. This will allow you to give a complete overview of your business without being overwhelming. Ideally, each of these sections should have each one slide. However, this is not a rule written in stone. Maybe it is worth to expand a little more on a specific topic. The golden rule is to keep one idea per slide , even if that means making more slides. This way it will clearer for your audience, and it will be easier to keep their attention right where you want it.

On the opposite side, you don’t need to make a slide for every single one of these sections. Maybe some of these won’t apply to your business. Consider these sections more as a guideline of what you can use to show your company’s potential. Take, for example, the famous early Facebook Pitch Deck .

Early Facebook Pitch Deck from Ilya Friedman, CFA

As you can see, this Pitch Deck has no “Problem” or “Solution” sections. This is because Facebook wasn’t tackling any existing problems, but creating a new necessity. Focusing on a non-existing problem would have been useless to justify its importance. Instead, what they do is focus on what it does have: market validation. They expend several slides going through media data that shows how incredibly popular they are and their users’ demographics.

1- Introduction

Your introduction should be able to catch your audience’s attention from the get-go. Look at the Facebook Pitch Deck. Their introduction is just a quote. But it is a quote that presents them as a revolutionary idea that is changing the way people interact. This is what you should look for an introduction. A short way to present your business in a forward way, while also leaving your public wanting more. Storytelling can be a great tool for this.

Not every Pitch Deck includes a Team slide, but it can be extremely useful. Presenting the people making the decisions and showcasing their previous achievements can make investors more at ease. If you have members in your team that add a plus on how execution will be managed in your business, it can certainly be a good idea to dedicate a slide to it. Of course, it is up to you to decide if it’s useful or not. You can even change where exactly the slide should go, depending on which topic you feel it connects better.

team powerpoint templates

This is a vital slide in (almost) any Pitch Deck Presentation. As Forbes mentions, it is more likely for an investor to bet on you if he can relate to the problem you are putting on the table. Or, in any case, if you can explain it well enough so he can understand its importance. The more inescapable a problem is, the more likely a solution for it will have a big demand.

4- Solution

This slide needs to be as concise and clear as possible. It should answer directly to the problem. Try to avoid offering different solutions. Even if you have a multi-faceted project, simplifying the solution you’re offering will make you look more focused and more trustworthy. Afterward, in the product description or the business model, you can elaborate on what else makes your product or services so special, but here, try to keep it as straightforward as possible.

There is also the possibility to join the problem and the solution in just one slide. You can see that in some of the templates below. This can be useful to show the direct relationship between the two of them. You can always do that, just remember that the priority is to be as clear as possible.

5- Product/Service

Here you can show your product in action. Show how it implements your solution and its effectiveness. The Facebook Pitch Deck is a great example of that. Even if there is no solution in this presentation, it makes an awesome job of portraying its product uniqueness. From its users’ profile to the networking value it offers, it gives the public a short but complete overview of what the product is about.

6- Traction and Market

This slide should also be straight to the point and data-based. There is nothing speaks better of growth and traction than a data-based graph. Slides such as this one are great to show everything you need with very few words. This is the moment to show your business is already successful, and that, with enough resources, it can become even bigger.

growth powerpoint templates

You should have done a good in-depth research on your target market before your Pitch Deck presentation.  Your market can determine your potential exit with investors. The market’s size, its willingness to expend their money can be a key factor when deciding where to invest. Showing statistics and customer feedback can be very useful to show how successful your product already is. Just check out the Facebook Pitch Deck. Many of its slides are focused on showing their popularity and reach. This is, after all, what attracts investors.

7- Business Model

This slide is not a requirement, but if done well, it can be a huge plus in your presentation. Show your audience how you are planning to make money. Proving that you have a concrete idea of how your whole business will operate will give you a great image in front of investors and clients. For this, slides with graphs such as funnels can be a great option to display how you plan your business to work.

business funnel template

8- Financial Forecasting

This section is where you show your projections to where you see your business going in the future. For example, you can present the expected growth in 3 or 5 years. Sometimes this section can be directly related to the investment section and how would you invest the money to make your company grow.  As always, this depends on your own presentation and the order you want to give it. Just remember that having a realistic, transparent approach to what to expect in the future can really make a difference for your audience.

9- Competition

Even if your idea is great, it is highly unlikely that you are the very first person who came up with something like that. In most cases, you’ll have to deal with some competitors offering similar products or services to the same target market. It is important that you have a deep understanding of your business and its differential value. Only then you can really show investors what makes your business unique and why they should be on you instead of any of the others. Yo need to know where you are standing on compared to your competitors and diagrams are a great way to showcase that. SWOT analyses are also a great way to convey both yours and your competition’s strengths and weaknesses.

10- Desired Investment

Even if everything else is great, your Pitch Deck won’t be really successful until you actually get the fundraising you need. And to get it, you have to eventually ask for it. Presenting a plan of what you expect to do with it and how it will be used to grow the business will show your audience how grounded the management is.

11- Closure/Contact

Finally, you should invest some time in making a good closure for your presentation. In Facebook’s Pitch Deck, is another great quote, that makes the presentation end at a high note. You should certainly aim for that. But even if it’s not possible, you should at least have a slide dedicated to contact information. After hearing your presentation, your audience should be completely clear on how to invest and what would be the next steps. At the bare minimum, they should know how to contact you again. After all, the whole purpose of the Pitch Deck is to build relationships with potential investors.

It has a market segmentation slide, great to introduce your segment to your traction/market section. There are many different aspects that can be part of your differential value. One thing that can distinguish yourself from other competitors can be the way you present yourself to your potential customers. That is why a slide for your Marketing Strategy can be so important.

creative pitch deck template

Making Your Own Pitch Deck

So, which one should you use? Sadly, there is no easy answer to this question. How long your presentation should be, and what slides you should use for your Pitch Deck depends entirely on you. It depends on what you believe are your strengths, what do you think your differential value is, and so on. It depends on what numbers you have that could be eye-catching for potential investors.

Good thing is, there is no wrong answer either. Think carefully about what you want your audience to get out of it, and what specific information will convey this idea the best. Do you think one of the best things your business has is its stability? Then showing a graph of steady growth might be a good idea. Or maybe the best aspect is that there is a huge market to tap on. Then making an extra effort in the market slide is a must. Really, really knowing your business is the only way to make a truly great Pitch Deck presentation.

And, as always, remember that the slides are just a tool. There is a limit on how much a good presentation design can do when the speaker is not at their best. The delivery is a vital part of every presentation, and even more in this kind of presentations. A Pitch Deck should be highly persuasive. Whether it is to an investor, a client, or a partner, the challenge is to convince them of the potential of your business. To make them see not only what the company is but what it can become (with their help). This is why the speaker should be someone who believes in the product and is passionate about it.

legendary startup pitch decks and what you can learn from them

A startup pitch deck is a brief presentation that provides investors with an overview of your new business and/or startup idea through presentation slides.

It usually focuses on showcasing your product, sharing your business model, giving a look into your monetization strategy, and introducing your team.

When it comes to startups and entrepreneurs, getting that first big deal can be tricky. It can be hard to put your business idea forward in a way that’s going to convince potential investors or partners. This is where pitch deck presentations come in handy as they are often short and precise. The goal is to explain your idea in a way that gets straight to the point and is easy to understand. These quick, punchy presentations are critical for those looking to make a strong first impression and secure funding for their business venture. Let’s talk about what a pitch presentation is and how you can create one with the help of Prezi.

What is a pitch presentation?

To get a better understanding of what a pitch presentation really is, let’s look at some of the important elements that make one:

Conciseness: It’s typically short, usually 10-20 slides. This fast pace enables the presenter to captivate the audience and maintain attention.

Clarity: The aim is to keep the content clear and straightforward, avoiding complicated jargon so that the message is understood.

Powerful storytelling: It will often tell an interesting story about the problem being solved, the solution offered, and the potential market opportunity.

Key information: Because of its fast-paced nature, it will often be packed with vital information like the business model, financial projections, and the unique value proposition of the product or service being pitched.

Appealing visuals: Like other styles of presentation, having visuals that can draw in the audience is a must. Pitch deck presentations will often use graphics and minimal text to convey information better.

To get a visual understanding of what a pitch presentation is, explore the following pitch presentation:

The evolution of pitch presentations: a look back and ahead

Ever wondered how pitch presentations became such a big deal? They started as simple PowerPoint slides but have evolved into something much more dynamic. This journey reflects changes in business, technology, and what investors look for. In the early days, pitch decks were pretty straightforward – just a few slides outlining a business idea. But as technology advanced, so did the expectations. Now, we see pitch presentations with interactive elements, attractive visuals, and even storytelling elements. This evolution shows how we’ve learned to communicate complex ideas more effectively. Understanding this history helps us understand how pitch decks have evolved into what they are today.

Is a pitch deck the right presentation style for me?

A pitch deck is perfect if you’re looking to present a business idea, especially if you’re aiming to attract investors or partners. It’s designed to be concise yet impactful, focusing on the key aspects of your business or project. Think of it as showcasing your business- you’ve got a limited amount of time to make a strong impression. So, if you’re in the early stages of a startup, seeking funding, or trying to win over some stakeholders with a clear, compelling story about your business or idea, a pitch presentation could be just what you need.

People who might also benefit from pitch presentations

Pitch presentations are a versatile tool that can greatly benefit a wide range of individuals and organizations. We’ve discussed the role of pitch decks for startups and entrepreneurs, so let’s look at some other instances where these presentations might be particularly useful:

  • Business executives: Established business owners can use pitch decks to propose new projects or strategies to stakeholders, boards, and investors.
  • Sales and marketing professionals: To pitch products or services to potential clients or partners, highlighting their unique selling points.
  • Non-profit organizations: For presenting their mission, impact, and funding needs to donors, sponsors, or grant agencies.
  • Researchers and academics: To secure funding or collaboration for research projects, especially when presenting to funding bodies or at academic conferences.
  • Inventors and innovators: To attract investors, partners, or attention to their new inventions or innovations.
  • Freelancers and consultants: To pitch their services and unique value proposition to potential clients or agencies.

What makes a good pitch deck presentation?

When we talk about pitch presentations, it’s important to compare the differences between a great pitch deck and the ones that just don’t hit the mark.

What a pitch deck should look like

A successful pitch deck should have a clean, uncluttered design . This way your audience can take in the information without being distracted by over complicated slides. Any images used should be of high quality, and be relevant to the text. A pitch presentation should flow logically , so the information provided tells a story about what you’re aiming to achieve.

The colors used should match that of your brand, often logos and fonts will correspond with the theme of the brand, organization, or company. This is a great way to reinforce who you are and what you stand for. A good pitch presentation will captivate the audience by using each slide to convey a single key point, this way, the message is concise and easily absorbed.

Pitfalls to avoid

Now, let’s talk about what a pitch presentation shouldn’t look like. If you want to entice your audience, don’t cram too much information onto your slides . This is going to overwhelm your audience and make their attention span drop. Don’t stray away from key points by including irrelevant information. You want your pitch deck to persuade people to take action and have faith in you and your product, so don’t go off on a tandem.

Use a language tone that’s relatable to everyone – don’t use overly technical terms or industry-specific jargon. This can be off-putting for potential investors who don’t work in your field. One of the biggest mistakes you could make is to be inconsistent with your theme, color, and fonts. Remember, the idea is to appear professional, and inconsistency screams amateur.

Things to consider when preparing to create your pitch presentation

Although it might be appealing to dive straight into making your presentation, there are certain points you should consider to get the best out of your pitch. Here are some things to think about when planning:

Know your audience

Consider who you’re presenting to and include criteria that are going to be appealing to them. For instance, what resonates with venture capitalists may be different from what appeals to potential partners or customers.

Engaging storyline

You want to hold your audience’s attention throughout the whole presentation, so tell your story in a way that builds anticipation and makes them want more.

Keep each slide simple. Your audience will respond better to clear, concise content that’s not too busy and complicated. Keep text easily readable and appropriate for all levels of knowledge.

Key messages

Plan out the purpose of each slide beforehand, that way you can be sure the key messages come across well.

You can include things like graphs or charts to simplify complex data, but do this in a way that doesn’t overcrowd the slides. Remember to stay consistent with colors and fonts to reinforce clarity.

Data and validation

Do your research when preparing to make your pitch presentation. It’s crucial to back up your claims, such as market research, growth projections, or case studies. Using real-world examples is a good way to back up your credibility.

Business model

Think about how you’re going to explain your business model in a way that comes across clearly. Always be honest about your revenue streams, pricing strategies, and your position in the market.

Investors often invest in people as much as they do ideas, so think about how you can highlight the strengths of yourself and your team.

You need to clearly state what you’re asking for. Whether it’s funding, support, or a partnership, make sure your audience knows what you need from them.

Practice your pitch so that it flows well and fits with the time constraints. Rehearsals are great for realizing flaws, which means you can rectify where needed to ensure the best possible pitch on the day. Be prepared to answer questions and address potential concerns- you can do this by listing some possible queries and preparing an adequate answer.

Beginning and ending

How can you draw the audience in from the minute you start speaking? A successful pitch presentation often starts with a bang, such as a powerful punch line, a vibrant image, or a brain teaser. When it comes to ending your pitch, summarize the main points and offer a chance for discussion.

Presenting your pitch deck presentation

Your presenting skills must be just as effective as the pitch presentation you’ve created. Imagine spending all that time and effort on making each slide perfect, to go and blow your opportunity by poorly presenting it. Here are some tips to help you own the stage for your pitch:

Body language

  • Posture: Stand tall and proud. A good posture reflects confidence and keeps you physically engaged.
  • Gestures: Gestures should be natural and purposeful. For example, you might use hand gestures to emphasize important points. Avoid being overly dramatic with gestures as this can be distracting.
  •  Movement: Moving can add energy to your presentation, but be careful not to pace around the stage, as this can make you appear nervous. A simple step forward when you’re reaching the punchline of your story can elevate impact. Similarly, turning your body to face different sections of the audience can make everyone feel included.

Facial expressions

  • Eye contact: Make eye contact with your audience, and maintain it. Don’t just focus on one area, move your gaze around the room to add a personal element to your presentation. This is going to help you build a connection and keep them engaged.
  • Smiling: Smile where appropriate. This is going to make you seem approachable and passionate about your subject. However, you don’t want to unnerve your audience by wearing a forced smile throughout the whole presentation.
  • Expressiveness: Your facial expressions should match the tone of what you’re saying. They can be a powerful way of transporting emotions from the screen onto the audience.

Voice control

  • Volume: You want everyone in the room to hear you, so speak loudly, but avoid shouting.
  • Pace: Remember that your audience needs to clearly hear every word for maximum impact, you can do this by keeping a moderate pace throughout. Speaking too fast can be hard to keep up with, and talking too slowly can become boring.
  • Tone: Use a varied tone to maintain interest, as monotone speech can be disengaging. For instance, you could change the pitch and intensity of your tone when discussing something positive or exciting.
  • Duration: Stick to the allotted time for your pitch presentation. Running too long can lose your audience’s interest, while cutting it too short may not deliver enough information.
  • Pauses: Pauses are handy for creating suspense, or allowing key points to sink in. They can also be helpful for a smooth transformation from one topic to another.

Dealing with nerves

  • Practice: The more familiar you are with your content, the less nervous you’re going to be. Practice your body language cues, speaking clearly, and using the right facial expressions.
  • Visualization: Envision a successful pitch presentation. It’s when we worry about the things that could go wrong that causes anxiety to kick in.
  • Relaxation techniques: Before taking the stage, simple techniques can help with nerves, such as mindfulness practices and progressive muscle relaxation.
  • Deep breathing: Practice deep breathing to control nerves and keep a steady voice. This helps in delivering a calm and confident pitch.

If you’re struggling with nerves, watch the following video on how to not be nervous for a presentation:

Audience interaction

  • Question prompts: To make your pitch presentation more interactive, encourage audience participation and questions.
  • Read the room: Always be aware of the audience’s reactions and adjust accordingly. If they seem disinterested, you might need to change your approach or pace.

As a pitch deck presenter, your role is to deliver your content in a way that makes an impact. Mastery of body language, voice, and timing all play a crucial role in yielding the results you want.

Successful business pitch presentation examples

Many well-known companies famously used pitch decks in their early stages to secure funding and partnerships. Here’s some you may know:

Back in 2008, Airbnb was just starting out and needed funding, so they created a pitch deck. This wasn’t just any pitch deck—it was really clear and straightforward, showing off their business model and what they hoped to achieve. They ended up raising $600k from an angel investment round. Their pitch presentation was so successful that people still talk about it today. It’s a classic example of how a good pitch can really set a company on the path to success.

Did you know about Uber’s beginnings? On their ninth anniversary, Garrett Camp, one of the co-founders, shared their first pitch deck. It was a 25-slide presentation that they used way back when they were just starting out. This pitch presentation was a major part of their strategy and really helped in the company’s early growth and evolution. It’s pretty impressive to think how those early slides contributed to making Uber the giant it is today.

We all know how significant Facebook is when it comes to social media platforms, but it’s all down to their original pitch presentation back in 2004 that propelled them into such success. The pitch deck contained mix-and-match slides for summarizing Facebook’s value proposition, key metrics, and audience demographics. Shortly after the launch of facebook.com, Eduardo Saverin, who was 21 at the time, took their presentation to New York. He was there to pitch Facebook’s Ad platform to potential clients. Now, fast forward to today, Facebook for Business has grown massively. It’s the second biggest digital advertising platform, just behind Google, and holds more than 25% of the market share.

These examples are not only inspirational but show just how important pitch presentations are. A strong pitch is critical for making a good first impression, forming business relations, and opening up opportunities for scaling your business.

Final thoughts on pitch deck presentations

To wrap up, pitch decks are more than just presentations; they’re your chance to make an impact. They’re vital for anyone looking to get their idea off the ground, especially in the startup world. So when you’re putting one together, keep it straightforward, focus on your key points, and make sure it reflects what you and your business are all about. A well-crafted pitch presentation can open doors, attract investment, and set the stage for your future success. Remember, simplicity and clarity are your best tools. Good luck, and here’s to making your ideas shine!

1. Business pitch deck templates

A business pitch not only sets the tone for successful presentations but is also valuable beyond the scope of a boss or consultant.

They’re about drumming up new clients, making sales, pitching a partnership or trying to convince new vendors or suppliers to work with you.

In this section, we’re going to look at pitch decks that are not geared towards raising money from investors. That said, any of the templates in this post can be customized for your specific needs.

Client marketing pitch deck template

Marketing, branding or other creative agencies need a pitch deck that’s out of the box.

A subtle way to do that is to pick a creative design motif to use throughout your presentation . Your motif could be something like a recurring shape or a recurring object (like a leaf for growth).

For example, this business pitch deck template uses circles as the main design motif throughout the presentation.

2. Investor pitch deck templates

Investor pitch decks are a critical document along with your presentation, they help an investor decide whether to keep considering your business for investment–or take a hard pass.

Make sure your content flows well and don’t fixate on your technology. During pitches, investors will also want to hear about the market, your operating principles, potential outcomes etc. You also need to tell a compelling story about your company.

In sum, a pitch deck needs to be just engaging enough for an investor to take the next step: due diligence , meaning reviewing factors such as your business model and management team.

Investor pitch deck PowerPoint template

This pitch deck format is so popular because it manages to explain Airbnb’s business plan in an incredibly straightforward and simple manner.

We’ve reimagined their famous investor pitch deck format in this template that can be customized and exported to PowerPoint:

Innovative Airbnb Pitch Deck Template

Just so you know, all of our templates can be exported in PowerPoint format and presented using PowerPoint using Venngage for Business .

Investor pitch deck outline

Another investor pitch deck outline you can refer to is Guy Kawasaki’s 10-slide outline based on his 10/20/30 rule of PowerPoint .

Using this outline will force you to focus only on the most important concepts in your business plan.

It should also help keep investors and VCs engaged during your presentation. For one of the presentation examples in our list, we’ve reimagined Kawasaki’s outline in this clean, crystal clear template you can edit to make your own.

Other ways to add variety to your slide include swapping out the background image, or inverting the colors.

You could also use different types of charts–as long as the charts you choose effectively communicate your information.

Minimalist Marketing Presentation Pitch Deck Template

Franchise pitch deck template

Here’s a pitch deck template that grabs your audience’s attention and sparks excitement about your business from the very first or second page.

Set the scene by identifying a problem and how your business plans to solve it. Keep it short –tell your story in one slide, like in the example below.

Franchise Marketing Pitch Deck Template

Pick your words carefully–they should be precise and compelling. Use visuals like photos, charts and icons to illustrate the problem and solution and appeal to your audience’s emotions.

For example, this business pitch deck template uses a call to action right off the bat to engage the audience.

3. Startup pitch deck templates

A startup pitch deck outlines a business’s key elements, value proposition and growth potential to secure investment and partnerships.

Your pitch deck isn’t the place to go into the nitty-gritty of your business. That’s what due diligence is for–the “audit” of your business post-pitch. BetaKit has a great guide on how to prepare for due diligence.

That being said, if there’s a core process that you think will help sell your business, then you may want to summarize it in your pitch deck.

Startup pitch deck outline

Uber’s startup pitch deck has an outline well worth copying.

With sections such as key differentiators, operating principles, environmental benefits, market composition and future optimizations, you’ll be answering investor and VC questions upfront.

We’ve reimagined the Uber pitch deck format in a new sharp, modern template you can customize yourself.

How to create a pitch deck for clients

Crafting a compelling pitch deck for clients can turn a meeting into a successful partnership. Follow these steps to create a pitch deck that showcases your value:

1. Know your audience

Before diving in, research your potential client. Understand their industry, challenges and goals. This will help you tailor your pitch to their specific needs.

2. Structure your narrative

Craft a clear narrative with a problem/solution or opportunity structure by:

  • Highlighting a common pain point your client faces and present your product or service as the solution.
  • Identifying an opportunity for growth in your client’s business and showcase how your expertise unlocks that potential.

3. Personalise your pitch deck

A generic one-size-fits-all pitch deck can be unconvincing. Here’s how to personalize it for each client and make it truly shine:

  • Keep your presentation sweet and simple within 10-12 slides to make it easy for your audiences to digest.
  • Use high-quality visuals, charts and icons to break up text and engage the audience.
  • Back up your claims with statistics and data relevant to your client’s industry.

4. Clearly explain your marketing strategy

To explain your marketing strategy in a way that resonates, be sure to include:

  • Overview : Briefly outline your main goals and objectives.
  • Target audience : Describe who your marketing efforts will focus on.
  • Channels and tactics : Explain the methods you’ll use to reach your audience.
  • Content plan : Summarize the type of content you’ll create and share.
  • Differentiation : Highlight what makes your strategy unique.
  • Metrics : Share the key indicators you’ll use to track success.
  • Budget and timeline : Provide an overview of resources and deadlines.
  • Risk management : Address potential challenges and your plan to handle them.
  • Conclusion : Recap your strategy and invite questions.

5. Refine and practice

Before your big pitch, run your slides by a colleague to help you spot anything confusing and practice your presentation to make sure you feel confident delivering it.

Business pitch deck design best practices

Creating an effective business pitch deck involves several key design practices to capture attention and convey information clearly. To help you navigate through this process, here are some best practices:

Start with a template slide layout and vary the design

A business pitch deck template can be a lifesaver if you’re new to designing presentations.

The slide layouts , font sizes and image suggestions are all there–all you have to do is insert your own text and customize the design elements like logos , photos,  fonts , icons and  colors .

Blue Creative Investor Pitch Deck Template

Keep you pitch deck relatively short

Some experts argue your pitch deck should be as short as 10 slides , while others will recommend somewhere in the 15-20 slide range .

It’s generally considered best practice not to go over 20 slides;  most people probably won’t have the attention span for more.

Dedicate each slide to only one topic

Airbnb Tech Pitch Deck Template

Here’s the #1  presentation design tip  you need to know: don’t try to cram too much information into one slide!

If you were presented with a slide showing a wall of text, would you actually read the whole thing?

Even if you did, you might not get a chance to finish before the presenter moves on.

Pick one focused topic for each slide and stick with it.

For example, dedicate one slide to summarizing the problem your business is aiming to solve. Then, focus one slide on summarizing the solution your business offers.

Remember: you should only include your most compelling information in your pitch deck. You can go into more detail in your speech.

Visualize information using charts, icons and infographics

Simple Red Investor Pitch Deck Template

Want to avoid text? Use visuals to present information.

Visualize data using charts,  infographics  and pictograms  (“picture charts”). Keep the charts relatively simple. A complex chart will be hard for your audience to read and understand while you’re presenting.

Use charts to present key metrics like traction your business has gained, or your profit growth. You can use an infographic to visualize a process or to break down concepts. Our post on picking charts will help you decide what chart is best for what data.

Here’s a business pitch example that uses charts and diagrams to present metrics in an engaging way.

Use icons to reinforce points

Iconics Pitch Deck Template

Icons can be used as symbols or visual cues to guide your audience’s eyes towards specific points on your slides. That’s why it’s often effective to put an icon beside a header or beside a key metric.

Simple Business Pitch Deck Template

When picking icons for your slides, make sure that the icons have a consistent style throughout the presentation. That means sticking to flat icons, or sticking to line art icons.

Take a look at the icons in this business pitch deck example. They all have the same line art style, which pairs well with the thin decorative header font.

Make bold design choices that show confidence in your pitch

Bold Marketing Pitch Deck Template

To convince people to hire you, invest in your business or join you as a partner, they need to feel confident that your business will deliver.

A confident pitch deck design is one way to do this. For example, using punchy, concise phrasing using bold fonts will help make an impact on your audience. An intense color scheme will grab your audience’s attention and show you’re not shy about your pitch.

Take this business pitch deck template. It doesn’t mince words and the bold fonts and color scheme convey confidence.

Show your business’s personality in your design

Sponsorship Nonprofit Pitch Deck Template

Telling your business’s story means showing what makes your business original and likeable.

What is your brand’s voice? Are you reliable and traditional? Are you innovative and forward-thinking? Are you trustworthy and comforting?

Incorporate your business’s personality into your pitch deck designs. Pick fonts, colors and images that suit your brand’s voice. Think about your target audience: what is most likely to appeal to them?

For example, this pitch deck for a nonprofit that helps children incorporates comforting, childlike design elements like playful fonts and pastel colors.

Simple Business Sponsorship Pitch Deck Template

Use consistent design elements

While this may seem like an obvious point, it’s surprising how often people overlook consistency in their design.

Business Pitch Deck Templates1

Your business pitch deck should look polished and professional. An important part of that is making sure your header fonts sizes and styles are consistent, the icons and images you use are the same style throughout, and the colors you use are cohesive.

Don’t overburden your slides with text

Look for ways to combine concise, punchy text with visuals. Make sure your text is no smaller than 30 point font.

If you find your slide getting too crowded, break the information up into several slides or look for a way to condense what you’re writing.

Download your pitch deck as a PDF

It’s considered good practice to send your pitch deck to investors before your actual meeting.

Rather than sending your pitch deck to them them via Google Docs or a file sharing services like WeTransfer , reduce the risk of them not opening your pitch deck by sending it to them as a PDF.

Download your pitch deck as a PDF

With Venngage, you can download your pitch deck in high quality PDF format, as well as in interactive PDF format.

Now you have the tools to create a business pitch deck that will make an impression on investors . It’s time to get started:

Business Pitch Deck FAQ

What is a business pitch deck.

A business pitch deck is a presentation that provides an overview of your business plan to your audience. Typically, you would present a pitch deck to potential investors, business partners, board members and potential clients.

What should be included in a pitch deck?

  • A clearly defined problem your business will solve (this could also be your “mission”).
  • A clearly defined solution your business will present.
  • Metrics that validate your business (your business model and previous successes).
  • Who your key team members are and their credentials.

How you tell your business’s unique story is up to you. In fact, while it’s good to look at other pitch decks to get a sense of the format and types of information to include. Our post on the best pitch decks is a good place to start.

That said, your pitch deck design should cater to your niche and target audience .

Creative Pitch Deck Templates and Design Best Practices

Identify your business’s unique value proposition and emphasize that in your pitch deck.

How long should a pitch deck be?

You should have no more than 10-20 slides in your business pitch deck.

Each slide should be purposeful and targeted towards a specific goal in mind. Your investors will not be able to retain too much information in just one meeting. Make sure you strategically explain your business pitch without losing your audience because your focus is off.

Your goal should be to prompt interest in your business pitch, not to over explain every aspect. You want to win that second meeting.

Having a limited amount of slides will force you to condense your information and concentrate on what is most important in your business pitch deck.

Here is a general outline of how long your pitch deck should be:

Slide 1: Title to introduce your business.

Slide 2: The problem you are trying to remedy.

Slide 3: Value that you will provide to your customers.

Slide 4: The solution that your product will provide. Use a flow chart template to help.

Slide 5: Business model where you are identifying your sources of revenue.

Slide 6: Management team that will be responsible for the business.

Slide 7: Marketing Strategy that you will use to reach your customers.

Slide 8: Key Metrics and Projections for the next 3 years.

Slide 9: Competition, describe your competitive landscape.

Slide 10: How you plan on using your funds for your business.

How to Make Winning Pitch Decks in 2024 With PPT Templates (+Video)

Andrew Childress

  • Bahasa Indonesia

Do you need to use a pitch deck for your presentation?  If you're starting a company or business and need support from others, pitching a business idea in PowerPoint is commonly expected in meetings.

PowerPoint Pitch Startup Deck

Pitch decks  have exploded in use alongside the startup boom in recent years. You'll most often find pitch decks from startups and small businesses seeking to gain support from investors.

In this tutorial, I'm going to teach you to use pitch deck templates to rapidly build a winning pitch deck. You'll learn more about the right deck format for a pitch presentation PPT and use a pre-built theme to speed up the process. We'll start by answering the question: what is a pitch deck?

Guide to Making Great Presentations ( Free eBook Download )

Before you read on, grab our free eBook:   The Complete Guide to Making Great Presentations . It'll help you master the presentation process, from: initial idea, through to writing, design, and delivering with impact.

Now, let's look at how to make winning pitch decks:

What Is a Pitch Deck?

The term "pitch deck" can mean a variety of things. Most often, the idea is that the pitch will lead to investment in your company in exchange for a piece of it. But, that's not the only time that you can use the pitch deck format.

In general, think of a pitch deck as inspiring action for your business. You could be pitching for new business, investment in your company, or even new employees to come on board. The point is that you share the vision you've got for what you do with the audience and inspire them to join you.

How to Structure Your Pitch Deck (Make it Awesome)

Sequence and structure matter. Tell the punchline for a joke at the beginning of the tale, and you're bound to lose your audience's attention.

The same is true for a pitch deck. If you show data too soon, your audience might not understand the "why" for your new concept. Learning how to make a pitch presentation is easier when you spend time on the presentation's structure.

Presentation structure photo

Here's a tried-and-true structure to remember as you learn how to make a pitch presentation PowerPoint:

  • Grab your audience's attention . It's not always easy, but you've got to find a way to establish attention and excitement. Tell the story of an existing customer and the problem you solved, for example. This sets the tone for all future points.
  • Describe the problem . What problem does your company solve? Pitching PowerPoint presentations are all about showing that you've found a problem that needs your help.
  • Explain the market . How widespread is the problem you seek to solve? Investors need to understand the "total addressable market," or the potential number of customers you might seek to serve.
  • Describe the solution . Whether it's an app, storefront, or new product, the bulk of your presentation should focus on your solution. That helps investors imagine throwing support at your company and being a part of the growth story.
  • Make an ask . Whether that's funding or a recruiting pitch for new teammates, most pitch presentations result in asking for the support you need to grow.

Each of these key steps might include multiple slides to drive the point home. But it's crucial to follow these principles so that your pitch doesn't wander through multiple ideas and steps.

5 Visual Design Tips (For Better Pitch Decks)

Building your next business pitch PowerPoint doesn't have to be so daunting! With a few key tips, you can remove the anxiety from designing slides and refocus your energy on the pitch deck's content. Cut down on the design work and get prepared for your big pitch.

Let's look at five of my favorite tips that'll help you build great-looking pitch decks in less time than ever before:

1. Outsource the Design Work

If there's only one tip you remember from this article, make it this one: use a business pitch template to skip far ahead in the design process.

There's nothing wrong with turning over the design work to others. Using a pre-built business pitch PowerPoint template doesn't exclude you from adding customization and design elements that bring your idea to life.

The round-up below has options (free and premium) to take great pitch decks and make them your own:

example business pitch presentation

2. Use Infographics to Illustrate Key Processes

An infographic is a visual that helps you show off processes or key data. It breaks from traditional charts like line graphs or bar charts with more custom visuals that explain a concept.

Take, for example, the slide below. You could just as easily show market sizes with bullets on a slide. But with these overlapping circles, you have room to explain the size of a market in an intuitive format.

Steart presentation

Use an infographic to explain the steps in your business or how the parts of your company fit together. Check out infographic elements and chain them together to jazz up a presentation.

3. Add a SWOT Slide for Visual Strategies

One of my favorite visuals for a pitch deck is a SWOT slide. This type of analysis includes highlighting your  s trengths,  w eaknesses,  o pportunities, and  t hreats. Use pitching PowerPoint slides to show all four.

When you're giving a pitch, you want the potential employer or investor to know that you've considered the challenges that lie ahead. It's also important that they know that you understand your strengths. That's why including a SWOT is a great visual for your next presentation.

Learn how to build an excellent SWOT slide that you can include in your presentation in the tutorial below:

4. Fewer Elements Lead to More Attention

I love PowerPoint as a tool to build exciting pitch decks. But the key to making them noticeable to an audience is to strip out the elements that aren't the focus of your slide.

It feels like a bit of a shortcut but try removing any element on your slide that  isn't  crucial to understanding. Convert a few visuals to speaking points and ease the visual burden of your slide.

Fewer Elements Slide

Learning how to make a pitch deck sometimes means doing  less.  You don't have to explain all the details of every part of your business. Slim down your slides, focus on the big picture, and pitching in PowerPoint is easier.

5. Tell Stories with Data

Here's another recommendation for pitch presentation PowerPoints. Use data to tell stories about your business. Big tables of data or statistics will quickly cause most audience members to glaze over!

Luckily, many sets of data convert beautifully to charts. Taking numbers and statistics and putting them in a chart or graph will drive the message to your audience and create an understanding.

If you want to know how to make a pitch presentation that wins support, remember the importance of data. Use the tutorial below to craft visual showcases of your data for your next pitch deck:

5 Pitch Decks (Example PPTs) in Action

There are plenty of successful investor-ready pitch decks that have helped launch companies by making a strong impression. As you learn how to make a pitch presentation PowerPoint, follow great examples!

Let's see some of the top pitch decks (example PowerPoint PPT presentations) used by companies for a pivotal round of fundraising and investor support. These sample pitch deck PPTs show you the way to create one of your own:

Known as AirBed&Breakfast at the time, this pitch deck is an early look at how Airbnb became one of the leading ways to book accommodations. Let's take a look at the Airbnb pitch deck :

One thing I love about this deck is that the idea is summed up in one sentence on the opening slide: "Book rooms with locals, rather than hotels." The simplicity of this pitch deck sample PPT shows why minimalism wins.

This deck does a great job sizing the opportunity that exists in the rental market by showing how many trips are booked. It also shows the competitive advantages that exist for Airbnb, illustrating why they're worth and investment.

Mint is one of the most popular personal finance and budgeting tools, and it's easy to see that the vision was crafted early on in this pitch deck. Here's Mint's pitch deck :

The strongest part of this deck is illustrating how Mint differs from other tools (slide 6.) Compared to other tools, Mint offered a unique feature set that no other single tool could offer.

3. Mixpanel

You might not have heard of Mixpanel, but it's carved a cornerstone in the analytics race like few other companies. Let's examine the slide deck from Mixpanel :

Not only does this pitch presentation PPT deck show past accomplishments, it also has a very clear goal for where the company is going. Investors can easily see how their capital will be deployed to grow Mixpanel.

Canvas (now called GoCanvas) really nails one of the key principles for creating a pitch presentation: showing the total market. This company's purpose is to help other companies transition to a paperless workplace.

Here are the top slides that Canvas has used  in a pitch deck sample PPT to raise over $9 million.

Everyone can relate to having too many printed documents. Investors are sure to salivate when they see the market size that exists for a company.

Learning how to navigate search engine optimization (SEO) is a multi-billion opportunity. Truly, where a website ranks has a major impact on the success of a business.

That's why SEOMoz has such a compelling business case . With the help of the slides you see below, they frame themselves as an authoritative voice. That helps build credibility in not only the market size but in this specific solution.

A pre-built theme offers many advantages. If you're a startup preparing for an upcoming pitch, it's likely that time is in short supply. Using a theme allows you to start with a basic template and swap in your own content.

Using the startup PowerPoint template  Pitch Werk , we're going to build out a sample pitch presentation PPT deck for a fictitious business. Let's create a classic pitch deck style presentation to ask for funding from potential investors. We'll take existing slides and rework them for our own purposes.

1. Introduce the Team

It's often said that investors don't invest in ideas, they invest in teams. Reviewing the credentials and accolades of your team will build confidence in your abilities. So put your best foot forward by using one of the team PowerPoint templates from Envato Elements.

Many investors believe that if you put the right team around an idea, creative solutions will arise. It makes sense to start off by introducing the team that you've put together to work on your product.

For this slide, I really like  slide 19.  Each one of these boxes could be used to list a team member and their role at the company.

19-Before sample pitch deck slide

In my sample pitch deck, I decided to use the top boxes for employee photos and the bottom box to share more about them. In the screenshot below, check out how I simply removed the image placeholders and used those spaces for team descriptions.

19 after sample pitch deck slide

When you use a startup pitch PowerPoint presentation template like Pitch Werk, remember that you can customize each starter slide. It doesn't matter if there's no "Team" slide built in. Find something with the placeholder boxes you need and drop in your own content.

Another  pitch deck template PowerPoint  slide choice: slide 30 has a more traditional approach to listing team members.

2. Describe the Problem That Exists

Even the savviest investors don't know every market opportunity that may exist for a new business. Part of a well-constructed pitch deck consists of making the audience aware of the problem at hand.

If you've got data and statistics about the size of the market that your business will be in, feel free to share those statistics. When companies are valued and opportunities are scoped, it helps investors to understand what size market that this potentially services.

Slide 14 is a great choice for this purpose. With concentric (overlapping) circles, you can describe the various markets or niches for the problem at hand. Use the circles to describe the size of the market (potential revenue) that you may be able to garner.

14 before sample pitch deck slide

More important than describing the problem: shape it as an  opportunity.  Opportunities are how you create new businesses. When investors or potential advisers see that there's a legitimate need for what your company will offer, they'll be more inclined to get on board.

Another slide choice: slide 15 is a similar "opportunity sizing" approach, but with a different presentation.

3. Offer a Solution

So, you've set the stage for the problem that currently exists that your team is working on. By now, the potential investors should have an idea of both the problem that exists, and why it's a compelling area for a company to solve.

Now, it's time to offer up a solution. For your idea to be a compelling business, you've got to find the intersection of opportunity and possible tools to bridge the opportunity.

When you propose a solution, there are really two key parts that people need to see:

  • How you're different . Solutions have been attempted for practically every problem, but that doesn't mean they worked. Why will your solution to the problem work if others have failed?
  • Why you're the right team to do it . What makes your team different? If those teams have already failed at solving a problem, why is the team that you've assembled more fit to solve it than those in the past?

Both points are key reasons when investors or potential employees are deciding to back your mission and vision. When it comes to slide design, we really could use many of the slides that are built into Pitch Werk.

Let's use slide 85 for this purpose, since we're showing off an app that provides a solution. I'll simply drop in a preview image and update the points to match the goal.

85 sample pitch deck slide

Another slide choice: slide 90 is a more minimalist choice for showcasing your product.

4. Offer the How

If you're raising funds, investors are betting on your solution to a problem. If you've defined the problem and the solution, they're likely interested in the mechanics of how you'll accomplish the solution.

In this slide, it's time to pull back the curtain a bit and share at least some of the upcoming plans for how you'll accomplish the goal.

For slides like this, I recommend slide 24  in Pitch Werk as the best way to show the path that your company is taking. Each of the steps could describe a milestone that you've already accomplished. You could also use several of the points on the timeline to show potential future objectives you have.

In my case, I'm going to show several key milestones in my product development. Each of these provides a clear vision of how the problem is solved through your product.

Finwiz Story So far

Another slide choice: slide 25 is similar but a more minimalist choice to presenting a timeline. It's one of the quick slides to use from this  startup pitch deck template PPT .

5. Ask for Action

Why give a pitch if you aren't asking for action from the attendees? At the end of the presentation, it's time to ask for what you need to succeed.

Whether this is funding, advisory services, or a potential partner in the business, you need a slide that makes your intentions clear. Your audience can't possibly help you meet your goals if they don't know what they are.

For this pitch presentation PPT deck, let's use  slide 10  as the starting point for our action slide. It's a simple and clean slide that includes placeholders for images as needed.

Slide 10 Before View

You could use this slide and list the details of the status of your current fundraising round. In many pitch decks, this is ultimately the goal. Asking for funding in exchange for a share of the company. In most startup fundraising events, investors pool money to fund the company. So, it may help to show other investors that are already on board.

If you're asking for advice or board members for your company, tweak the design accordingly. You could offer bulleted reasons of why your company is worth helping and what you offer in return.

Another excellent slide choice: slide 57 has a circle chart. It's great if you want a more data-driven close to your pitch presentation PPT.

In the example slide decks I shared earlier; you can see that there are plenty of other slides you can include a pitch deck. There's nothing stopping you from building in more detail, but these five slides are crucial to success.

If Pitch Werk isn't your style, don't hesitate to spend time checking out some other PowerPoint templates on Envato Elements. There are a variety of startup business pitch PowerPoint styles and trending presentation designs that would work great for practically any purpose.

10 Tips for Creating a Successful Business Pitch

If you’re getting ready to create a business pitch deck for your startup or new business plan, there are several things you need to keep in mind.

We’re going to walk you through this guide to creating your own business pitch as well as share a variety of pitch deck templates that can help you see success.

1. Be Concise and to the Point

A good business pitch requires you to provide crucial points regarding your business. You can use statistics and visual presentation to explain your issues. Simplify the expression and ensure that the investors understand the facts right away.

Getting to the point will hook your potential investors into following your topic without losing interest. To achieve this, you have to focus on crucial aspects of your business and summarize them into simple terms.

This slide does a great job of summarizing company information into just a few bite-sized paragraphs.

2. Create an Elevator Pitch

An elevator pitch is a brief business presentation delivered quickly, such as during an elevator ride. Describe your business’ nature, what you do, and show why you are the best candidate for funding.

To compose an excellent elevator pitch, ensure you describe your business well to help investors understand it without any struggle.

Take a page out of this slide’s book. Pay attention to how they used a single sentence to convey what their business does.

3. Practice Your Timing

Practice whatever you are going to present and ensure that you keep time during the rehearsal. You may let your colleagues track the time and observe your body language and speech. That way, they will give you candid feedback regarding the quality of your practice.

Bear in mind that you’ll need to present your pitch within a short time. Depending on the organizer’s specifications, ensure to deliver your pitch within the allocated time.

Summarize your content, and focus on your selling proposition but don’t rush to finish your speech prematurely.

Using a tool like Visme can help you pay attention to how much time you’ve spent on your slides. The presenter notes feature allows you to type out speaking notes and track your presentation time.

Ready to create your own presentation in minutes?

  • Add your own text, images and more
  • Customize colors, fonts and everything else
  • Choose from hundreds of slide designs and templates
  • Add interactive buttons and animations

4. Pay Attention to Details

Once you’ve presented a brief description of your business, get into the details and justify why investors should invest in your business idea, and show how you will offer solutions to societal problems.

For example, based on industry analysis, demonstrate how your business compares with others in the niche and which approaches you will use to perform better than your competitors.

Additionally, don’t forget to add financial projection to your presentation. Potential investors take a keen interest in reviewing this information than others. Make the prediction simple and be ready to answer any questions that investors may ask.

Using a chart like the one below is the perfect way to visualize growth and financial projections.

A pitch deck slide with a line chart for visualizing growth and projections.

5. Understand Your Audience

Before you think of an effective business pitch, don’t hesitate to find out about your potential investors and create a pitch tailored to them. Give a brief description of how your product works and demonstrate how you intend to grow your business.

Let the investors understand what your business does and convince them that you deserve funding. More importantly, talk about your business idea and show the problem you are planning to solve.

Bear in mind that investors want to hear how your business will generate returns for them. Therefore, show them how you will create demand for your product and present realistic financial projections.

Showcasing something like a clear product roadmap can be a great way to get investors on your side.

A product roadmap pitch deck presentation slide available to customize in Visme.

6. Address a Real Customer Experience

Use real customer experiences to highlight an existing problem and demonstrate how your idea will solve it. Tell a story regarding real customer challenges and avoid the technical talk. More importantly, ensure that the story you give relates to your target market.

For instance, mention your customer’s name and show how your business managed to solve the problem they had. Be realistic and let your audience connect with your story.

Research shows that a compelling story will make investors relate to your business situation and better understand your business idea.

This slide showcasing testimonials is the perfect addition to your business pitch.

7. Outline Your Business Model

Once you furnish your investors with what your company does, they’ll be interested to know how to generate income. A business model entails your assets, business activities, and what you do to get customers and make money.

Inform your investors about the duration you’re likely to take in each stage of development. Have in mind that businesses are different. For instance, some companies’ product development may take many years, while others will take a few months.

Whichever stage your company is in, show the investors that your team is competent to manage your business at any particular stage.

In your revenue model, describe how you will generate income for the next few years. For instance, provide a five-year financial projection showing total revenues, profit before tax, operating expenses, and net income.

This basic slide is the perfect starting point for sharing your revenue model.

8. Talk About Your Team

Investors are interested to know if you have the right team to implement your business strategies. Highlight the most important details about your team, such as experience and qualifications.

You don’t have to give details of everyone working for you. However, you may talk about the founders of your company. Give a brief bio of members in the founding team, and ensure that they are diverse in gender and other aspects.

Investors believe that a diverse team has a unique approach to solving issues, which is right for your business.

In your presentation, ensure to highlight the following about the founding team:

  • A brief biography of each member
  • Names and titles
  • Members’ photos
  • Social media (e.g., LinkedIn) profiles

In any business, a team is one of the most important assets a company has. Investors are concerned with whether the topmost people in your company have the expertise and experience to lead your startup to success.

Here’s a great way to represent your team on a single slide.

9. Show How You’ll Deal With the Competition

In the competition slide, show investors what sets you apart from other players in the industry. Highlight the company’s vision and let investors determine your ability to become a key player in your niche.

Demonstrate how the product is competitive in the market and show your industry knowledge regarding possibilities and obstacles.

Ensure to quantify the product benefits you plan to include in the competition slide. For instance, you can say that your product is 3 times powerful than the competitors’. And don't forget to prove that!

List your product benefits in priority order based on your business’ value proposition and customer needs.

When creating your competitor slide, make your differentiators as straightforward as possible. For example, if your startup has a crucial benefit but competitors don’t have it, mark its column and leave those of competitors unmarked.

Ensure that your power grid competition slide looks clear to investors during the presentation.

Use a   competitor matrix to understand your market, learn about competitors, and create excellent business strategies.

10. Go-To-Market Strategy

Explain to investors how you intend to market your products or services. More importantly, show how much money you will spend to acquire new customers.

It is vital to demonstrate to investors that your projected value of revenues will be more than customers’ acquisition costs.

Here is what you are supposed to highlight in the go-to-market strategy.

  • Identify the problem in the market and show how you will address it
  • Provide details on how your product will solve the existing problem in the market
  • Describe the target markets in terms of size. Give details of the market’s buying power
  • Provide market research findings to support the viability of the product
  • Give information on how you intend to place products in the market to achieve maximum profitability

Your slide might look a little something like this.

team discussing on elevator pitch presentation

We’ve all been there – those brief, unexpected moments when you find yourself face-to-face with someone who could change the trajectory of your career. It could happen in an elevator, at a networking event, or even in line for coffee. In these fleeting moments, having a sharp, persuasive elevator pitch can make all the difference. But how do you distill the essence of your idea, product, or service into just a minute or two? How do you ensure your message is compelling enough to spark interest and leave a lasting impression?

Crafting a powerful elevator pitch deck is both an art and a science. It requires clarity, brevity, and a deep understanding of what makes your proposition unique. Whether you're seeking investment, pitching a new idea to your boss, or simply trying to network, a well-crafted elevator pitch can open doors and create opportunities you never thought possible. T his article delves into the essentials of creating an engaging elevator pitch presentation, offering practical tips, examples, and insightful case studies to guide you through the process.

What is an elevator pitch?

An elevator pitch is your golden opportunity to make a first impression – a brief, persuasive speech designed to spark interest in what you or your organization does. The name comes from the idea that it should be short enough to deliver during a quick elevator ride, typically ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

The essence of an elevator pitch lies in its ability to convey your value quickly and effectively, making the listener want to know more. Think of it as your verbal business card, a snapshot of who you are, what you offer, and why it matters.

example business pitch presentation

Basic components of an effective elevator pitch

Creating a great elevator pitch deck involves several key components. Each element plays a critical role in ensuring your message is clear, engaging, and memorable.

Your hook is the opening statement designed to grab attention. It should be intriguing and relevant, making your audience want to hear more. This is where you set the tone for your pitch, so it needs to be compelling. You might start with a surprising statistic, a thought-provoking question, or a bold statement. The goal is to spark curiosity and draw your listener into your narrative. An effective hook not only captures interest but also sets the stage for the rest of your pitch.

The Problem

Next, you need to clearly define the problem your idea, product, or service addresses. This shows that you understand the pain points of your target audience and sets the stage for your solution. By articulating the problem, you demonstrate empathy and insight into your audience’s needs. This step is crucial because it establishes relevance and makes your listener care about what you’re about to present. The more specific and relatable the problem, the more engaged your audience will be.

The Solution

Now that you've laid out the problem, it’s time to describe how your offering solves it. This is your chance to highlight the unique features and benefits of your solution. You should explain what makes your approach different and why it’s the best option available. Be clear and concise, focusing on the value your solution brings. This part of your pitch should make your listener see the potential impact of your offering and envision how it can address their needs or challenges.

Identifying your target market and the potential for growth demonstrates that there is a demand for your solution and that you have a clear focus. This shows that you’ve done your homework and understand the landscape in which you’re operating. Discussing your market also helps to build credibility, as it indicates that you have a realistic and informed view of your business environment. It’s important to convey who your ideal customers are and why they need your solution.

The Value Proposition

Your value proposition is the specific benefit your solution brings to the table. This could be cost savings, time efficiency, or any other advantage that sets you apart from competitors. Your value proposition should be compelling and easy to understand, making it clear why your audience should be interested. It’s about communicating the unique benefits that make your offering stand out and why it’s worth considering. This part of your pitch needs to resonate strongly with your audience’s needs and desires.

The Call to Action

Finally, conclude with a clear call to action. What do you want your audience to do next? Whether it’s scheduling a meeting, visiting your website, or trying your product, your call to action should be direct and achievable. This step is essential because it guides your listener towards the next steps and keeps the momentum going. A strong call to action turns interest into action and opens the door for continued engagement.

Crafting each of these components thoughtfully and integrating them seamlessly into your pitch can make all the difference. Remember, the goal is to leave a lasting impression and to make your listener want to learn more about what you have to offer.

How long should an elevator pitch presentation be?

The length of an elevator pitch can vary depending on the context, but the general rule is that it should be short enough to deliver in the time it takes to ride an elevator, hence the name. This typically means:

  • 30 seconds to 1 minute: For networking events or casual encounters.
  • 1 to 2 minutes: For formal presentations or investor pitches.

Why keep it short?

Attention spans are shorter than ever!

These days, most people have a limited amount of time to devote to any single interaction, especially in casual settings. By keeping your pitch short, you respect your listener’s time and increase the chances of maintaining their attention. A concise pitch helps ensure that your key points are heard and remembered.

Clarity is crucial

Brevity forces you to distill your message down to its most essential components. This clarity is crucial because it helps you avoid overwhelming your listener with unnecessary details. When you focus on the core of your message, it becomes easier for your audience to grasp and retain the information. A clear and concise pitch ensures that your value proposition is understood and appreciated.

To be remembered

A well-crafted, succinct pitch is more likely to be remembered and repeated. When you deliver a concise pitch, you make it easier for your listener to recall and share your message with others. This memorability can lead to further discussions and opportunities as your pitch lingers in the minds of those who hear it. A memorable pitch increases the likelihood of follow-up conversations and actions.

Tips to create a successful elevator pitch presentation

Creating an effective elevator pitch presentation involves structuring your content into concise and engaging sections to capture and maintain your audience's attention. Here's a breakdown of the sections, much like a seasoned novelist would, ensuring each part leaves your audience eager for more.

1. The opening scene: Introduction

Starting your elevator pitch with a strong introduction sets the tone for the entire presentation. Instead of resorting to startling statements that might distract rather than engage, aim for a natural, informative opening that captures the essence of your business.

Begin by introducing your business name and providing a concise summary in no more than two sentences. This brief overview should give a clear snapshot of what your business does. If relevant, include a breakdown of your top three products or services to give a quick glimpse of your offerings. Clearly defining your target audience is essential unless it is evident, such as in the case of social media platforms that cater to everyone.

Make sure this introduction is brief and to the point—ideally, no more than 18 seconds or 36 words. This ensures the potential investor or listener grasps the core of your business swiftly and effectively.

💡 Pro tip: Consider beginning with a thought-provoking question or an interesting fact for an extra engaging start. This can serve as a powerful hook that draws your audience in from the outset. You can then follow this with your concise introduction on the next slide.

Example 1 - Starting with a Question

example business pitch presentation

Example 2 - Starting with a Hook or Interesting Fact

example business pitch presentation

2. The conflict & resolution: Problem vs. Solution

In this section, your goal is to clearly articulate the problem your business aims to solve. This could be a single, significant issue, a series of smaller but related challenges, or one main problem broken down into a few key components.

The primary objective here is to show that you have a deep understanding of the challenge at hand. Clearly define the problem in a way that is straightforward and easy to grasp. Then, seamlessly transition into presenting your solution. The more straightforward and understandable your explanation, the more compelling it will be.

Whether you focus on one major issue or a few interconnected ones, make sure your audience can see the relevance and urgency of the problem. This sets the stage for you to introduce your innovative solution, highlighting how it effectively addresses the challenge. Simplicity and clarity are your allies that make a strong impact.

💡 Pro tip: Use real-life examples or data to illustrate the problem. This not only makes the issue more tangible but also adds credibility to your pitch. When your audience can see the real-world impact of the problem, your solution becomes even more compelling.

example business pitch presentation

3. Setting the scene: Market size & competition

Potential investors are drawn to opportunities that promise significant returns. Therefore, it's crucial to illustrate the scale of the opportunity your business presents and provide insights into the competitive landscape. This gives investors an immediate sense of whether your venture is worth their time and resources.

By detailing the market size, you demonstrate the potential for growth and the vast possibilities for your business. Additionally, highlighting your understanding of the competition shows that you are well-prepared and have a clear strategy to stand out in the market. This dual focus on opportunity and competition sets a solid foundation for investors to see the viability and potential profitability of their investment.

example business pitch presentation

💡 Pro tip: Use visual aids like charts and graphs to present market size and competitive analysis. Visual representations can make complex data more digestible and impactful, helping investors quickly grasp the potential and positioning of your business.

4. Business Model: How the story unfolds

A concise elevator pitch slide on your business model can quickly show investors how you plan to generate revenue. When your business strategy is clear and compelling, it significantly increases the likelihood of attracting investors. Presenting a well-defined business model demonstrates that you have a thoughtful and viable plan for profitability, making your venture more appealing and reducing perceived risks.

💡 Pro tip: Include key metrics and financial projections to back up your business model. Showing potential revenue streams, cost structures, and profitability timelines with concrete numbers can add credibility and help investors understand the financial potential of your business.

example business pitch presentation

5. The twist in the tale: Unique selling point (USP)

In this section, your goal is to showcase what makes your company unique and how it stands out from the competition. This is a crucial moment where potential investors decide whether to delve deeper into your business.

If you can capture their interest here, the chances of securing a follow-up meeting and, ultimately, funding increase significantly.

💡 Pro tip: You have a maximum of 20 seconds to highlight your USP, so keep your information concise and focused. Emphasize only the most critical details that your investors need to know.

example business pitch presentation

Additionally, if your product or solution involves advanced technology, consider adding a slide that explains it. If you have patented technology, make sure to highlight this aspect during your pitch. This not only demonstrates innovation but also adds a layer of credibility and competitive advantage.

6. The characters: Founding team

People invest in people. Investors want to know the credentials and backgrounds of the individuals behind the business. To build trust and confidence, always highlight your team's credentials, experience, and significant accomplishments. Showcasing the strengths and expertise of your founding team not only adds credibility but also reassures investors that their money and effort are in capable hands.

7. Plot points: Money milestones

Investors are captivated by numbers and will recall them long after your pitch ends. To leave a lasting impression, clearly outline your financial milestones and investment strategy from the outset. Demonstrating a well-thought-out financial plan highlights your business's growth trajectory and reassures investors of your strategic foresight.

example business pitch presentation

8. The closing appeal: Call to action

Ending your elevator pitch with a strong call to action (CTA) is essential as it generates excitement and creates a sense of urgency. A well-crafted CTA can inspire your audience to take the next step, whether it's learning more about your business or starting a partnership.

Consider these impactful CTAs:

  • Visit our website
  • Follow us on Facebook
  • Drop by our store
  • Explore our brochure
  • Sign up for our newsletter
  • Contact us for more information
  • Invest in our company
  • Partner with us

By including a clear and compelling CTA, you guide your audience toward the desired action and keep the momentum going.

💡 Pro tip: Make your CTA specific and actionable. Instead of a generic request, provide clear instructions or direct links that make it easy for your audience to follow through.

Bonus: Quick do's and don'ts

Crafting an effective elevator pitch is as much about what you say as how you say it. Here are some quick do's and don'ts to ensure your pitch resonates:

  • Keep it Simple: Use clear, straightforward language. Avoid truisms, buzzwords, and jargon that can confuse your audience.
  • Be Concise: Stick to the key points. Weed out fillers and unnecessary details.
  • Personalize Your Pitch: Tailor your pitch to your audience and refresh it as the situation changes.
  • Maintain High Energy: Speak with enthusiasm and energy to keep your audience engaged.
  • Create a Memorable Conclusion: End with a catchy phrase, a promise of value, or a summary that will stick in the investor’s mind.

Don'ts:

  • Avoid Hyperbole: Steer clear of exaggerated claims that can undermine your credibility.
  • Don’t Rush: Speak at a steady, clear pace to ensure your message is understood.
  • Skip the Monotone: Avoid speaking in a flat, monotone voice. Show enthusiasm and smile.
  • Don’t Overwhelm Your Audience: Avoid giving your pitch to people who seem uninterested or in a hurry.
  • One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Don’t use the same pitch for every situation; adapt as needed.

Speaking Tips:

  • Stay Relaxed: Keep a relaxed and steady rhythm in your elevator speech to convey confidence and credibility.
  • Time Management: Be mindful of the time, but don't let it make you rush. A clear and steady delivery is more effective.
  • Creative Ending: Conclude with a memorable statement or question. This could be a catchy phrase, a promise of value, or an invitation for further discussion.

Best elevator pitch examples to inspire

Creating an effective elevator pitch can be challenging, but seeing how successful companies might craft their pitches can provide valuable insights. Here, we’ll explore hypothetical examples from Airbnb and LinkedIn to illustrate how they could effectively communicate their value propositions.

An elevator pitch for Airbnb could resonate with travelers seeking unique experiences beyond the offerings of traditional hotels.

Hook: “Imagine wanting to explore the world authentically but struggling to find affordable and unique accommodations.”

Problem Statement: “Traditional hotels are expensive and often don’t provide the local experience travelers crave.”

Solution: “Airbnb connects travelers with local hosts who offer unique, affordable accommodations in their homes.”

Unique Value Proposition: “Unlike hotels, Airbnb offers a wide variety of unique spaces, from treehouses to castles, giving travelers a truly local experience.”

Call to Action: “Check out our website to find your next unique stay or become a host today.”

An elevator pitch for LinkedIn might emphasize the efficiency and effectiveness of their platform in meeting the professional networking needs of today’s workforce.

Hook: “Professionals need a way to connect and network in today’s digital world.”

Problem Statement: “Traditional networking methods are time-consuming and often ineffective.”

Solution: “LinkedIn is a professional networking platform that connects you with colleagues, industry leaders, and potential employers.”

Unique Value Proposition: “With LinkedIn, you can showcase your professional achievements, find job opportunities, and build valuable industry connections.”

Call to Action: “Join LinkedIn today and start building your professional network.”

By analyzing these hypothetical examples, it becomes clear that a successful elevator pitch requires a strong hook, a clear problem statement, a concise solution, a compelling, unique value proposition, and a direct call to action. Each element works together to create a pitch that is both engaging and persuasive, ultimately driving the listener to take the next step.

It often involves explaining features, benefits, and addressing objections. An elevator pitch, on the other hand, is a brief, high-level overview designed to spark interest and lead to further conversation.

Q: How long should an elevator pitch be?

A: An elevator pitch should typically be between 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the context. For casual encounters or networking events, aim for 30 seconds to 1 minute. For more formal presentations or investor pitches, you can extend it to 1 to 2 minutes.

Q: What are some common mistakes to avoid in an elevator pitch?

A: Common mistakes include using too much jargon, speaking too quickly, providing too much information, and failing to engage the audience. It's essential to be clear, concise, and to the point, ensuring your message is easily understood and remembered.

Q: How can I make my elevator pitch more engaging?

A: To make your pitch more engaging, start with a strong hook, use relatable language, and tell a compelling story. Incorporate visual aids if possible, and always end with a clear call to action. Practice delivering your pitch with enthusiasm and confidence.

Q: Should I tailor my elevator pitch to different audiences?

A: Yes, it's crucial to tailor your pitch to different audiences. Consider the interests and needs of your audience and adjust your pitch accordingly. Personalizing your pitch can make it more relevant and impactful.

Q: How can I practice my elevator pitch effectively?

A: Practice your pitch in front of a mirror, record yourself, and seek feedback from friends or colleagues. Rehearse in different settings and situations to ensure you can deliver it smoothly and confidently. The more you practice, the more natural and effective your pitch will become.

Q: How can I write an elevator pitch for a job interview?

A: To craft a compelling elevator pitch for a job interview as a job seeker, focus on highlighting your key strengths, relevant skills, and career achievements. Start by briefly introducing yourself and your background in a manner that is short and to the point. Then, concisely explain what makes you a strong candidate for the position, emphasizing your unique value proposition and how your experience aligns with the job requirements. End with a clear call to action, such as expressing your enthusiasm for the role and inviting further discussion.

Q: What are the key components of an elevator pitch template for a business pitch?

A: An effective elevator pitch template for a business pitch should include the following components:

  • The Hook: A compelling opening statement to grab attention.
  • The Problem: A clear description of the problem your business addresses.
  • The Solution: A brief overview of your solution and its benefits.
  • The Market: Information on your target market and potential growth.
  • The Value Proposition: The unique benefits of your solution.
  • The Call to Action: A direct request for the next step, such as scheduling a meeting or visiting your website.

Q: How can a project management professional create an effective elevator pitch?

A: A project management professional should focus on succinctly conveying their ability to lead and deliver successful projects. Start by outlining a key project you managed, highlighting your role and the impact of your work. Clearly state how your project management skills, such as problem-solving and team coordination, contributed to achieving project goals. Use specific examples to illustrate your achievements and conclude with a call to action, such as inviting a follow-up conversation or discussing potential opportunities.

Q: What are some real-life elevator pitch examples that effectively use analytics?

A: Real-life elevator pitch examples that effectively use analytics often include:

  • Hook: "Did you know that 70% of businesses miss out on growth opportunities due to poor data analysis?"
  • Problem: "Many companies struggle with integrating and interpreting their data effectively."
  • Solution: "Our analytics platform simplifies data integration and provides actionable insights, helping businesses make informed decisions."
  • Value Proposition: "Our tool reduces analysis time by 50% and increases data accuracy, driving better business outcomes."
  • Call to Action: "Visit our website to see how our analytics solutions can transform your data strategy."

Q: How should a creative elevator pitch differ from a formal elevator pitch?

A: A creative elevator pitch typically incorporates imaginative language, storytelling, and engaging elements to capture attention. It might include a unique hook or a memorable anecdote that illustrates the problem and solution in a compelling way. In contrast, a formal elevator pitch is more structured and straightforward, focusing on delivering clear, professional information in a concise manner. The formal pitch aims to provide a precise overview without embellishments, often used in business or investor settings where professionalism is key.

6 Tips for Writing a Sales Elevator Pitch as a Small Business Owner

6 Tips for Writing a Sales Elevator Pitch as a Small Business Owner

That brings us to the concept of the elevator pitch. In this article, we’ll explore what an elevator pitch is, why it’s essential, and how you can craft one that really sells your business. We’ll also share tips to help you perfect your pitch to make a lasting impression.

What is an Elevator Pitch?

Let’s get the basics out of the way first. If you’ve ever watched the TV show “Shark Tank,” you already know what an elevator pitch is. For those who haven’t, an elevator pitch is a short, snappy summary of your business that you can deliver in about 20-30 seconds – the time it takes for an elevator ride.

It’s like the logline in the movie industry, a one-sentence summary that hooks people and makes them want to know more.

To give you an idea, here are some famous sales elevator pitch examples:

  • Airbnb: “Airbnb helps people list and book unique accommodations around the world, whether it’s a room in someone’s home, an apartment, a villa, or even an igloo.”
  • Uber: “Uber is an on-demand transportation service that allows consumers to request a ride using a mobile app. The app shows available drivers nearby and gives accurate arrival times and fare estimates.”
  • Slack: “Slack brings all your business communication together in one place to help teams collaborate easier and get more done.”

Why You Should Refine Your Elevator Pitch

Now, as a small business owner, you may not be appearing on TV pitching your business to the likes of Mark Cuban, Daymond John, and Lori Greiner. But that doesn’t mean you don’t need an elevator pitch.

First, you never know when you’ll meet someone interested in your business or a potential investor. It could be at a networking event, a local business meetup, or even in line at the grocery store. Having a polished elevator pitch ready means you’re always prepared to make a great first impression.

Secondly, writing a sales elevator pitch will help refine your business concept and goals. When you’re knee-deep in the day-to-day operations, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. Working on your pitch forces you to zoom out and focus on what matters.

It’s a great exercise to narrow down your unique selling points and target audience. Let’s say you run a medspa that offers various services but has a core focus on anti-aging treatments. With all the new services you’ve added over time, you might have forgotten your roots. An elevator pitch exercise will remind you of your initial goal and refocus.

In short, even if you don’t end up pitching to investors, an elevator pitch can help you get to know yourself (or your business) better. It’s like a mirror that reflects the essence of your business.

6 Tips to Perfect Your Sales Elevator Pitch

There’s an art to crafting compelling elevator pitches. It’s not just about cramming as much information as possible into 30 seconds. It’s about hitting the right notes and leaving a lasting impression. Let’s explore six sales elevator pitch tips to help you do that.

Know Your Goals and Target Audience

One of the most commonly forgotten elements in a pitch is the goals and audience. People often focus on the idea or the product and forget to mention who they’re targeting and what they’re ultimately trying to achieve.

When working on your elevator pitch, clearly define your target audience and the goals you’ve set for your business. This shows whoever’s listening that you have a clear understanding of your market and what you hope to achieve.

Remember, goals also extend beyond business objectives. You should also know the goal of your pitch. Are you looking for new investors or a partner, or are you simply trying to network and make connections? Knowing this will help you tailor your pitch accordingly.

Highlight Your Unique Selling Proposition

Your unique selling proposition (USP) is what sets you apart from competitors. It doesn’t matter if you’re offering a service that others are offering, like legal counsel. There should be something that makes your law cabinet stand out. Maybe you specialize in a specific type of law, and that’s your USP. Or maybe you offer competitive pricing or a unique approach to legal services.

This USP should be front and center in your elevator pitch.

Follow the Traditional Sales Elevator Pitch Template

While we won’t suggest starting with the cliché “Has this ever happened to you?”, using a template helps guide you to include all essential pitch elements:

Here’s an example of a traditional template: “Hello, my name is [name], and I am the founder/CEO of [business]. Our business offers [product/service] for [target audience] to solve [problem/pain point]. We have seen success by [unique selling point/competitive advantage] and are looking for investment to help us expand our reach.”

Including all these elements in your pitch shows potential investors that you have a clear understanding of your business.

Keep It Short

The whole point of an elevator pitch is to be able to deliver it in the span of an elevator ride, which is typically 30 seconds to one minute.

Yet, one of the most common mistakes people make when crafting an elevator pitch is trying to include too much information. It drags on, and by the time you get to the main point, you’ve lost your audience’s attention. Or it looks like you don’t know your business well enough to pick out the most important points.

To keep it short, focus on the most critical aspects of your business, eliminate unnecessary details, and use concise language. Remember, less is often more when it comes to elevator pitches.

Be Passionate

An elevator pitch goes beyond cold, hard facts. It’s also about selling your vision and passion for your business. People are looking for someone who truly believes in their product/service and has the drive to make it successful. Your conviction can be contagious.

To show passion, use enthusiasm in your tone, share personal anecdotes or experiences that have motivated you to start this business, and convey your belief in the potential of your business.

Practice Makes Perfect

Even if you have a great pitch written down, it’s important to practice delivering it. Otherwise, you might freeze up or stumble during an actual pitch.

Practice in front of friends, family, or even a mirror. Get feedback and make adjustments as needed. But also remember that it’s important to sound natural and not rehearsed. The pitch should flow naturally and not sound forced or robotic. Like an actual conversation.

Another tip we recommend is recording yourself every time you deliver the pitch, whether you’re alone or in front of someone. This can help you identify areas for improvement and perfect your delivery.

Use a Business Management Platform to Streamline Your Operations

A well-crafted pitch can open doors for your small business. It can help you network more effectively, attract potential investors, and even clarify your own business goals and unique selling points.

As a small business, another thing you can add to your pitch is that you’re using a platform that handles your CRM, billing, payments, and marketing all in one place for convenience. That’s what you get with Townsquare Interactive’s business management platform .
