UNICEF has concentrated much of its effort in areas in which relatively small expenditures can have a significant impact on the lives of the most disadvantaged children, such as the prevention and treatment of disease. In keeping with this strategy, UNICEF supports immunization programs for childhood diseases and programs to prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS ; it also provides funding for health services, educational facilities, and other welfare services. Since 1996 UNICEF programs have been guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), which affirms the right of all children to “the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health and to facilities for the treatment of illness and rehabilitation of health.” UNICEF’s activities are financed by both government and private contributions.

Transcript: Effects of Individuals The victims that UNICEF goes to assist is primarily children and their mothers who are in need of vital materials in order to survive. These people are all around the world and UNICEF helps wherever they can. UNICEF is constantly collecting money and donations for their cause. They are always donating and assisting in any way they can around the world World Response Background UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. In 1954, UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations System. Risk Taking In the past the perpetrators would be the people who started World War II. That led to many countries being in need of many essential items and thus led to the formation of UNICEF. Nowadays there isn't really a one person to say caused these hard times. One could say the governments of the affected countries for not providing assistance to its people but its really hard to say who's really to blame. What is UNICEF? • UNICEF is an agency run by the United Nations whose goal is to advocate for the protection of children's rights to help them meet their basic needs and expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.

History of UNICEF • After World War II, European children face famine and disease. UNICEF is created in December 1946 by the United Nations to provide food, clothing and health care to them. • UNICEF later expands to the whole world to address the needs of the whole world child.

Successes of Unicef • Convention of the Rights of Children (1989) gives children right to health care, education, and proper nutrition • World under 5 mortality rate drop from 12 million in 1990 to 7.6 million in 2010 • Measles initiative (2001) has vaccinated <1 billion children • Breastfeeding initiative (1990) has 15000 education centers worldwide

How Unicef has not been successful UNICEF still struggles in changing the lives of many children globally. • 61 million children were not enrolled into school in 2010. • 130 million of the world's 15-24 year olds cannot read or write. • Undernutrition contributes to 2.6 million deaths of children under five years old.

The Impact of UNICEF • They have had a great impact on many peoples' lives, especially children. They have programs that help save children's lives, protect their childhoods, gets children educated, treating and preventing HIV/AIDS, and helping in emergencies. With continued funding and donations, UNICEF will continue making a positive impact on many lives.
