Research Paper on Student Information System

With the help of Student Information System (SIS), student information can be stored and maintenance can be done. It is useful for educational institutions to maintain the records of students. The storage and management of information regarding a students’ academics is crucial in any institution. This system can be useful for all types of details, academic reports, institutional details, curriculum, and other resource as well. Student Information System software is very essential nowadays for all the educational institutions to store the information of students. For storing the student data, the institutions are spending a lot of money on paper, files, and other stationary stuffs including pens/pencil etc or some institutions are purchasing expensive systems to do this stuff. But here we are just creating software for the similar work it can save a lot of expenditure of an institution and also it will save use of papers which is ultimately beneficial for our environment also. This system is very useful to sort and search student records because sorting and searching in file system is time consuming also difficult to conduct manually. This software was developed in such a way that it remains to be user centric and easily understandable and usable by the user. The software is fully functional and tested over several testing techniques available and the software is functioning smoothly.

Context driven research has been conducted by many. However, very less work has been conducted in constructing a context driven data mining that helps in HEI decision-making. A Student Information System that interacts with Students, Faculties, Student Parents and Management might not have enough information of the background. Context driven data mining is an application intelligent enough to detect and examine the context from different sources and take suitable actions to improve performance and efficiency of decisionmaking by discovering the hidden factors. Dataset of Students’ Performance Using Student Information System, Moodle and the Mobile Application “eDify”

The data presented in this article comprise an educational dataset collected from the student information system (SIS), the learning management system (LMS) called Moodle, and video interactions from the mobile application called “eDify.” The dataset, from the higher educational institution (HEI) in Sultanate of Oman, comprises five modules of data from Spring 2017 to Spring 2021. The dataset consists of 326 student records with 40 features in total, including the students’ academic information from SIS (which has 24 features), the students’ activities performed on Moodle within and outside the campus (comprising 10 features), and the students’ video interactions collected from eDify (consisting of six features). The dataset is useful for researchers who want to explore students’ academic performance in online learning environments, and will help them to model their educational datamining models. Moreover, it can serve as an input for predicting students’ academic performance within the module for educational datamining and learning analytics. Furthermore, researchers are highly recommended to refer to the original papers for more details.

A Strategic Planning of Developing Student Information Management System Using SWOT Technique

The strategic planning of developing any information system is the key factor of progress any organization. Hence, SWOT (Strength, weakness, opportunities and threats) analysis for the strategic planning of developing information system has proved to be a good analysis tool for further development and progress of the universities/organization. Further, the implementation of computerized student information management system has become an important issue within the university campus to exchange such information between students and staff. Many studies have developed student information system through the converting of paper-based system to computer-based system in order to facilitate the work of staff. However, none of these studies focused on the development of such systems based on the strategic planning using SWOT technique. Therefore, this research focuses on the requirements needed to develop student information system based on the aforementioned strategic planning technique. Some universities located in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq have been tacking to do the investigation. Moreover, SWOT technique was selected to find strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of developing such system. The findings of this research were processed as matching strengths with opportunities and converting weaknesses or threats to strengths or opportunities. Based on the results, it has been found that the need to address student information systems is of utmost importance now more than ever in order to survive and continue in the competition environment.

This research was carried out to assess the impact of the centralised electronic student records management system at Africa University. The parameters of the research were to find out whether the current Student Information System at Africa University was adequate, consistent, and reliable. Questionnaires were administered to students and staff who use the system. It was then concluded the SIS at Africa University is only centralised in theory since there is no interaction between the accounts office, accommodation services, registration, library and the virtual classroom. Moreover, students are frustrated by the time and extra effort they have to put in whenever they have to register and make enquiries about fees as they have to stand in queues for hours.

The rapid growth of Information in today’s world call for technology to be used in handling the ever increasing Information. Universities and Colleges keep tons of information about their students, academic staff, research and etcetera. Through studying the current existing system, it was easier to design and develop a functional, scalable and efficient Information System for the College of Computer Science and Information Technology. In-line with today’s technology, the College Information System eliminates most of the paper work within the college. Information concerning students, Courses and lecturers can well be managed using the system as opposed to paper work, which is associated with; time wastage, loss of information, inefficiency in updating records, and inaccuracy. The use of an Information System in a College not only eliminates the paper work for efficiency, but also aids the College administration in the decision making process, since reports and other management information can be generated from the system.

The project name is STUDENTS INFORMATION SYSTEM (SIS) for UOM. An SIS is a website that creates a single point of access to information collected from different sources .e.g. Different departments like computer science, software engineering etc. For students information and records manual system is used which is a headache for both administration and students. The project is basically for department of software engineering department where a desktop base application is used for students records maintenance. The current system does not have any feature of students fee record, no logout feature and only the clerk of department can use this system. It has no connection with examination section or finance section. The system we are going to develop can be used by all departments of University Of Malakand.

The performance of school is increasingly being judged by the basis of effective usability of student information system. Information or data gathered on such critical systems are very important for the improvement in the student outcomes. The aim of this research is to study the use of student system by the staff and students of faculty of oil and minerals. To achieve this aim, the present reach attempts to answer the following questions: a) how do students and the staff of Instructional Technology Department use the system? b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of the system? c) Are there any statistical differences in the answers of the participants according to their scientific degree? d) Are there any statistical differences in the answers of the participants due to the training programs? On the basis of the research questions and objectives, the researcher uses the descriptive method which is appropriate to the objectives of the research. Results of the research revealed that emails and forums are used mostly by the students and assignments are used by the faculty members The researcher recommended adding standards for using the system as a learning management system to be part of evaluating the staff in Aden University and it is better for them to be paid for using the student system in order to motivate them. Also, it is recommended to publish a printed brochure about how students can use the system. The researcher suggested conducting further research that studies the use of the student information system at Aden University Faculty of Oil & minerals considering larger participants and limitations of the study

—A student information system provides a simple interface for the easy collation and maintenance of all manner of student information. The creation and management of accurate, up-to-date information regarding students' academic careers is critical students and for the faculties and administration of Sebha University in Libya and for any other educational institution. A student information system deals with all kinds of data from enrollment to graduation, including program of study, attendance record, payment of fees and examination results to name but a few. All these data need to be made available through a secure, online interface embedded in a university's website. To lay the groundwork for such a system, first we need to build the student database to be integrated with the system. Therefore we proposed and implemented an online web-based system, which we named the student data system, to collect and correct all student data at Sebha University. The output of the system was evaluated by using a similarity (Euclidean distance) algorithm. The results showed that the new data collected by the SAS can fill the gaps and correct the errors in the old manual data records.

Student work is one of the core tasks in colleges and universities. There are many tasks and complicated data. Nowadays, with the development of technology, the wide application of big data has opened up new and more effective ways for student work. In the daily student work of colleges and universities, teachers of all colleges and disciplines should explore how to implement “information system” in the management of college students, optimize data management mode, reduce the pressure of counselors’ work, and improve the accuracy of data from the process of building “big data”. The study concluded that it is necessary to establish a sound mechanism for monitoring and reviewing student work and to promote a systematic understanding of the knowledge and information operation processes of student management teams.
