Smaller stores or shops sell specific things. For example, a toy store sells toys, a book store sells books, and a clothing store sells clothes.

Another place to shop is at a market. Markets can be indoors or outdoors. They often sell fresh food, handmade items, and second-hand goods. Some markets are only open on certain days of the week.

Essay on Shopping with My Mother:

Shopping with my mother is always an interesting and exciting experience. As a child, I used to accompany her every time she would go out to buy groceries or clothes. It was our special bonding time, where we would talk about anything and everything while browsing through the aisles of the supermarket or trying on different outfits at the mall.

One of my favorite parts was watching my mother haggle with the shopkeepers, trying to get the best deals and bargains. It was like a game for her, and I loved seeing her win.

But as I grew older, shopping with my mother took on a different meaning. It became less about buying things and more about spending quality time together. We would still talk and laugh, but now it was about deeper conversations and understanding each other’s perspectives.

My mother would also give me little shopping tips and tricks, teaching me how to be a smart and responsible shopper. She taught me the importance of budgeting and only buying what we really needed.

Even now, as an adult, I still love going shopping with my mother. It may not be as frequent as before, but it’s still a cherished tradition that I hope to continue for many years to come. It’s not just about the material things we buy, but the memories and moments we create together while shopping. And that is something truly priceless.

So, no matter how old I get, I will always look forward to going shopping with my mother. So, these were some interesting experiences that I have shared with my mother while we went shopping. But, going shopping with your mother is not just about spending quality time together or buying things, it also teaches us many life lessons.

From my mother’s bargaining skills, I learned the importance of being confident and standing up for yourself. She showed me that a little persistence can go a long way in getting what you want. And from her budgeting tips, I learned to be responsible and wise with my money.

But most importantly, shopping with my mother taught me the value of family and the importance of cherishing every moment spent together. As we get caught up in our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook these simple yet precious moments. But when we go shopping together, all distractions and worries fade away, and we are just two individuals enjoying each other’s company.

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s rare to have such moments of quality time with loved ones. So, I’m grateful for every shopping trip I’ve had with my mother and look forward to making more beautiful memories in the future.

It may seem like a mundane activity to some, but for me, shopping with my mother will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just about the things we buy, but the love and connection we share while doing so. And that is something I will always cherish.

Paragraph about Shopping Online:

Online shopping has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the convenience it offers. With just a few clicks, shoppers can browse and purchase products from the comfort of their own homes. This eliminates the need to physically visit multiple stores, saving time and effort.

Moreover, online shopping allows for a wider variety of products to choose from compared to physical retail stores. Consumers have access to products from all around the world, making it easier to find unique or niche items. Additionally, online shopping often offers lower prices and discounts compared to traditional brick-and-mortar stores.

However, there are also some drawbacks to consider when shopping online. One of the main concerns is the security of personal information and payment details. It’s important for consumers to ensure they are using a secure website and to be cautious when providing sensitive information.

In conclusion, while online shopping offers convenience and a wider selection of products, it’s important for consumers to stay informed and take precautions to protect themselves. With the right knowledge and practices, shopping online can be a convenient and enjoyable experience.

Essay about Shopping Habits:

Shopping is a common activity that almost everyone engages in. Some people shop as a form of leisure, while others do it out of necessity. Regardless of the reason, shopping has become deeply ingrained in our daily lives.

In today’s fast-paced world, consumers are constantly bombarded with advertisements and new products to purchase. This has led to an increase in impulsive buying and an overabundance of material possessions. As a result, many people have developed a habit of mindless shopping, often buying things they don’t need or can’t afford.

This type of shopping habit can have negative consequences not only on an individual’s financial well-being but also on the environment. The constant production and consumption of goods contribute to pollution and waste, which in turn harms our planet.

To break this habit, it is important to become more mindful of our shopping behavior. This can include creating a budget and sticking to it, making a list before going shopping, and questioning whether we really need an item before purchasing it. It’s also important to consider the ethical and environmental impact of our purchases.

By being more aware of our shopping habits and making conscious choices, we can not only save money but also contribute to a more sustainable future. Additionally, by reducing mindless consumption, we can learn to appreciate the things we have and find happiness in experiences rather than material possessions.

Shopping should be a purposeful and intentional activity, not just another mindless task on our to-do list. So the next time you go shopping, remember to shop mindfully and make choices that benefit both yourself and the world around you. So let’s all start breaking our shopping habits and strive towards a more conscious and sustainable future. Let’s make every purchase count.

Finally, it is important to note that breaking a habit takes time and effort. It won’t happen overnight, but with persistence and determination, we can all develop healthier shopping habits.

So let’s continue to educate ourselves on the impact of our consumerism and make small changes in our daily lives that will lead to a larger positive impact on society and the environment. Shopping is inevitable, but how we choose to shop can make all the difference.

Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

Shopping: IELTS Speaking Part 2 Questions & Sample Answers

Describe a shopping experience that you enjoyed..

You should say:

  • where you went shopping
  • what you bought
  • what made who you were with

and explain why you enjoyed this shopping experience.

Sample Answer:

I recently had a great shopping experience at a local boutique with my best friend. We went to a boutique called “Le Chic” in downtown. I was looking for a dress to wear for an upcoming wedding, and my friend was looking for a new handbag. I ended up finding a dress that was perfect for the wedding. While I was trying on dresses, my friend found a beautiful leather handbag that she loved. The sales associate was really helpful and friendly, which made the experience even better. I enjoyed this shopping experience because the boutique had a great selection of clothes and accessories, the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, and I got to spend quality time with my best friend.

Describe a shopping mall that you have visited.

  • where the mall is located
  • what stores are in the mall
  • what you like about the mall

and explain why you would or wouldn’t recommend this mall to others.

I recently visited the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. It’s a massive mall with over 500 stores spread across four floors. They have everything from high-end designer brands to more affordable stores like H&M. What I like most about this mall is the variety of stores and the fact that there’s something for everyone. They also have a ton of restaurants and entertainment options, like an aquarium and an indoor amusement park. I would definitely recommend this mall to others, especially if you’re looking for a fun day out with friends or family. However, it can get quite crowded, so be prepared for a lot of people if you decide to go.

Describe a product that you researched before buying.

  • what the product was
  • why you needed it
  • how you researched it

and explain whether or not you were satisfied with your purchase.

I recently researched and bought a new pair of running shoes. As an avid runner, I needed a high-quality pair of shoes that could provide both comfort and support. To research the best options, I started by reading reviews online from other runners. I also visited several sports stores to try on different brands and styles of shoes. I asked the sales associates for their recommendations and compared the features and prices of each option. Ultimately, I decided on a pair of Nike running shoes. They were a bit more expensive than other brands I considered, but the quality and comfort of the shoes were worth the investment. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend them to other runners.

Packing the duffel with the bare essentials and hopping into the car, getting behind the steering wheel and driving with no perfect destination in mind – we all dream to live such a life, don't we? Travelling to unseen places and exploring what it has to offer can be an enriching experience. However beautiful can travel be as an experience, writing a travelling essay can be quite a challenge. It may seem easy to come up with the ideas that you want to include in the essay but putting them into coherent sentences can be difficult. Your words should be impactful enough to be able to sweep the readers off their feet and take them on the cliff or make them feel the saline breeze on a beach.

A perfect travel essay must reflect the journey and highlight the little-known facts about the region. It should be infused with the character and culture of the place. If you are feeling stymied while writing a travel essay, then we have some brilliant tips for you that can make the task considerably easy for you.

8 tips for an outstanding essay on travelling

Here are 8 tips that you can cash on to produce a winning travelling essay:

  • Be specific with the destination

Before you choose a topic for your travel essay, keep the time spent in the location in mind. If your trip is just for a couple of days, then do not make the mistake of writing about an entire city. Think it out practically – is it possible to travel through a city in just a few days? Take for instance your essay is about London. It is quite an insurmountable task to be able to cover all the distance even in a week. So stick to a particular destination so that you can include the nuances and minutest details of the place to paint a picture in the reader’s mind with your words.

  • Less guide, more exploring

Also, the destination need not be about an exotic locale. It can be a story about an idyllic rustic location in the suburb of the teeming city. It can be about a cottage up on the hills with just the view of snowy valleys and iced peaks. Your words should give the sense of exploring and not touring. The essay should not be like a guide. It should be a view of the location through your lens.

  • Know the location like the back of your hand

Before starting to write a travel essay, do your research. A travel essay isn’t a made-up story so there should not be any fake information. Readers will be looking for more than just the necessary information about the must-visit tourist attractions. So you need to go beyond the surface and include more about the history of the place. Just do not write about the restaurants – talk about the cuisine of the place and the story behind it, if any. To get into the innermost recesses of the location, you can speak to the residents of the area. To bring richness in your travel essay, you must reveal another side of the destination.

  • Include the nitty-gritty

The key to an impressive travel essay is to be able to break down the location into kernels and write the core details about them. As mentioned earlier, so not just write about the tourist attractions and restaurants in the destination. Write about the lesser talked streets and unknown landmarks and the history behind them. If the place is known for its delicacies, write about how the cuisine has evolved and who had started it. From quaint bookstores to ice cream parlours to run-down shabby pubs – shed light to such nuances to bring your essay to life. You can even mention the negative things that you have faced in the place – like irregular transport modes or impolite locals. These little details will help you make your essay more impactful.

  • Be creative with the writing style

Since a travel essay is more like an anecdote, there is no specific format to write it. Therefore, a travel essay gives you the scope of setting your foot into the unchartered areas of creativity. You have got the creative freedom to write what you want. You can study how the natives of the locale speak and learn some of the basic words and phrases they use. To put them into writing you can read the local newspaper to get the pulse of the city you are in. Using the colloquial lingo can help the reader get a closer peek into the lives of the people living in the place. It will reflect a slice of how they live their way of life. Your words should be simple and yet impactful to portray and not just merely narrate. Touch every bit of the rust in the roof to make the reader feel like they are on the same journey with you.

  • Make it personal

The travel essay is your story. So add some personal experience in the story and at the same time do not make it self-indulgent. Include stories that can resonate with all your readers. Your experiences should be able to bring the reader back to the travel destination and connect him with the place. It should be the perfect blend of narration of the experiences you had while on the trip along with a vivid description of the place. To achieve the balance, write your essay in first person perspective to give a real touch to the story. Include the most interesting bits that will help the reader connect with you. You can even include the quotes of natives living in the area you had visited.

  • Start with a captivating catch

Like every essay, the introduction is the key to make it an impressive read. The opening should be capturing enough to attract the reader’s attention. It should leave an impact and should make them want to go on reading the piece. Start with an unknown fact about the place and leave it hanging from the cliff. Use a tone of suspense to excite the readers to keep them guessing about the contents of the essay.

  • Make it vivid with images

For certain places, words may fall short in being able to explain the exact description of a place. You cannot describe how the sky looked with the mountains seemingly touching the clouds or the horizon fading beyond the sea. Certain things cannot be explained in words – like the color of the sky or the water! This is where pictures come in! Providing real images of the place in between can help the readers stay connected. Vivid photos can also make the readers understand the story better by bringing them closer to it. So make sure you take breathtaking pictures of the place you are writing about. The images will help your essay stay in the readers’ mind longer.

With the above tips, we are sure you will be able to write an excellent travelling essay  that will impress your professor and fetch you a good grade.

And if you are still unsure about putting these to use, then below is a winning sample to show you how it is done!

I have visited London several times, and yet it is amazing how I find something new to explore every time I visit the capital city. My visit last autumn too did not fail to surprise me. With the hustle and bustle and the rich royal history, London city has a lot to offer. Since I just had a few days to spare, I wanted to make the best out of this trip.

Although vast and sprawling, I decided to visit most of the city on foot this time. Now since in my previous visits I had seen most of the tourist-y attractions already, I wanted to take the path less travelled this time to discover the hidden gems of the city. The last time I had been to London, I had missed out on the chance to visit the chock full of literature and history that awaited me in the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. Being a student of literature, visiting the place where the Bard of Avon once enacted the plays he wrote was a spellbinding moment. And guess what? I also caught a staging of the Macbeth before I left the place. Before heading towards the Hyde Park tube station, I grabbed some of London’s famous Fish ‘n’ Chips from the oldest food market of the city, the Borough Market. From Hyde Park to Tower Hill in under fifteen minutes by Tube, I began exploring the Tower of London. It was there that I heard a guard speaking about where he hailed from. A quick conversation with Peter, I had gotten intrigued to know more about his village – Suffolk in Lavenham. I asked him how to get there and Peter, being the quintessential helping guide that Londoners are known to be, told me that I could either take a car from central London. Or I could wait for the next day and take the train from Liverpool to Sudbury and then take the bus route 753 and reach in around two hours. Having nothing to do, I spent that day in the British Museum and walking on Oxford Street.

The next morning, I started my journey to the quaint village of Suffolk. I had picked up a book about the village where I learned that the village had once housed Henry III in 1257. And a bonus for all the Harry Potter fans – the village also starred in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ as Godric’s Hollow where Hermoine and Harry are seen to be visiting Bathilda Bagshot. On reaching the village, the first thing that grabbed my attention was the picture-perfect silhouette of prosperous medieval England with all the half-timbered houses. The lime-washed and brightly coloured buildings added an idyllic element to the village with the De Vere House standing out from the rest. Adding to the rustic touch was the fifteenth-century St Peter Church with its soaring height of a 141ft tower. The autumn breeze welcomed me as I walked on the leaf-covered high streets. I saw some young guns cycling around in a park and called out to them for directions. My stay for the trip was an Air BnB home-stay where I had to put up with an elderly couple – the Havishams. I still remember how on reaching the gate of the house, I had caught a waft of crumpets and hot scones. After an exchange of banalities followed by me gorging on the scones, I had found out about the hidden gems from Mr Havisham who happened to be quite a cheerful talker. He told me what a must-visit Hadley’s was when in Suffolk. I had then set out with a local map to find the hidden gem. On reaching I had found that Hadley’s was a cutesy ice cream shop, almost run down, run by an old lady. Here Rebecca told me how the ice cream parlour was opened back in the 1850s and was still known for their hand-made sorbets.

Like the sorbet, my stay in Suffolk had been a sweet experience – a trip of revelation. The tour – with all the lonely walks – had in an inexplicable way helped me to get my perspectives right. It isn’t the exotic locales and the flight above the clouds that make travelling my drug. Rather, it is little but beautiful discoveries like Suffolk that feed my wanderlust. Thank you, London. Thank you for being a wonderful experience, once again.

Narrative Essay on Whether You Enjoy Shopping

Essay about shopping.

Everybody has their own way of relaxing and escaping from gloomy and mundane everyday life. As for myself, whenever I feel blue, disappointed with anything or just bored, I go shopping.

Undoubtedly, every person has to buy things from time to time. In fact, for some people, it is only a part of a daily activity that needs to be done to supply their family with necessities. Such people would hardly write an essay on shopping and its influence on their life. At the same time, others get a lot of pleasure wandering around stores, very often without any purpose. And that’s what my shopping essay is about.

Although you can’t call me a shopaholic, I have to admit, that sometimes my desire to buy new shoes or an outfit makes me leave all my current plans behind and go to the nearest shop searching for something that would make me happier. It may sound corny, but for most girls, a clothing store feels like a sanctuary, where they are free to express themselves among fancy dresses and shoes. After all, I am one of them, and every time I have some money, energy and desire to bring something new into my life, I cannot but assume that the easiest way to do so would be by going shopping. Clearly, a store is a place where I can relax and forget about all the troubles I had to deal with during the day and just let my personality shine. Besides, shopping is a perfect way for me to avoid stress, as it distracts me and calms me down.

All things considered, I cannot but wonder:…

Trip to the grocery store.

640 words | 3 page(s)

1. The most common items available in the store are dry, packaged goods. This includes cleaning products and several aisles of non-food items, as in one aisle offering pet food and pet supplies. Frozen and refrigerated foods make up about one-quarter of the displays, just as a single large section is for produce and baked goods. The products most difficult to find are specialty items, such as ethnic foods and less identifiable brands.

2. Both the store and the products make claims to appeal to buyers. The store’s claims consistently emphasize deals, or bargain pricing for certain items temporarily discounted. With the products, the claims more relate to taste, ease of preparation, and nutritional value. Many also stress value, as in how many more servings the brand offers as compared to other brands, or how much more cleaning may be done with that particular product for a lower cost.

3. Generally speaking, the refrigerated meats are the most expensive items in the entire store, with the better cuts of beef asking the highest prices of all. Dry goods are arranged in ways gradating price; the more expensive items are at eye-level, while generic brands at lower process are on the lowest shelves. This is true in all the aisles, from food to non-food products.

4. Shopper behavior is consistent in one way: interactions are rare and shoppers behave with little awareness of others. There is a reflex of courtesy, at the same time. Few or no words are exchanged when shoppers maneuver the carts around one another, but it is clear that most are considerate of sharing the physical spaces. Interactions seem to happen only when there are pauses in such maneuvers, and brief apologies are made. Far more evident is shoppers interacting with employees, and mainly asking about locations of items. Silence, however, usually defines the shopper experience regarding others in the store, and no matter the crowd.

5. As is usual, meat and poultry products are displayed in clear packaging, to allow the shopper to see as much of the product as possible. Labeling provides information as to weight, price per pound, date of packaging, and many such items have larger labels promoting the quality, as in being farm-raised, lean, and non-GMO. Virtually no packaging here suggests the original animal, and the language refers only to parts and styles of cuts. Only whole chickens and turkeys suggest the actual animal, and simply because the shapes must indicate this.

6. With so many products available in different sizes, the implication is that different consumers are targeted. For example, all candies and snack foods are offered in wide ranges of sizes, and the labeling indicates “party size” for the largest. The same strategy is in prepared and frozen meals; the larger are presented as “for the whole family” and smaller items are marked as “single-serving.” All this implies the understanding that different customers live differently, with some alone and others more social, and/or interested in feeding friends or family.

7. Foods from various racial/ethnic groups can be found in most aisles, but are usually not at eye-level. Sauces, beans, and other such items tend to be placed on high or very low shelves, as with lower-priced items. At the same time, the more expensive such items are prominently placed. This indicates ideas of ethnic product quality as determined by cost, or that the expensive ethnic food is “better” and more exotic, and desirable, simply because it costs more.

8. In terms of cultural values, the entire supermarket experience powerfully presents a single idea: homogeneity. This, in turn, is connected to a kind of overt Americanism. Bright colors, emphatic punctation, and appealing product packaging combine to express a sense of goodness as necessary, if the shopper is to enjoy a good life. Adding to the effect is the popular music playing and the very bright lighting.

A couple of short essay examples on an adventurous trip.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example 1

Traveling is one of the most exciting experiences one can have in life. It allows us to explore new places, meet different people, and create unforgettable memories. My recent adventurous trip was one such experience that I will cherish for a lifetime. The trip involved hiking through a dense forest, crossing a river, and reaching the summit of a mountain, where I enjoyed a breathtaking view. Despite facing challenges such as unpredictable weather and rough terrain, the trip was a memorable and rewarding experience. In this essay, I will share my experience of this adventurous trip, highlighting the challenges, the exhilarating moments, and the memories that I will cherish forever.

Our trip started with hiking through a dense forest. The forest was full of tall trees, colorful flowers, and chirping birds. The trail was steep and rocky, and we had to be careful while walking. The forest was so dense that we could hardly see the sun, and the air was full of freshness. We had to take breaks in between to catch our breath and hydrate ourselves. As we walked, we could hear the sound of a river, and after a few hours of hiking, we finally reached the river. The river was wide and had a strong current, and we had to cross it to continue our journey. We had to be careful while crossing the river, and we held hands to maintain our balance. The water was cold, and we could feel the current pushing us, but we made it to the other side, feeling proud of ourselves.

The highlight of our trip was reaching the summit of the mountain. The climb was steep and exhausting, but the view from the top was worth every effort. From the top of the mountain, we could see the entire valley, and it was a sight to behold. The sky was clear, and the sun was shining brightly, making the view even more beautiful. We took pictures and sat there for a while, enjoying the serene beauty of nature. We could hear the sound of birds and feel the cool breeze on our faces. It was a moment of pure bliss, and we felt grateful for being able to witness such a beautiful view.

Despite facing challenges such as unpredictable weather and rough terrain, the trip was a memorable and rewarding experience. We had to face unexpected rain and strong winds, which made the climb more challenging. We slipped a few times, but we managed to keep going, motivated by the thought of reaching the summit. The journey was long and tiring, but the memories we created were worth it. We bonded with our fellow travelers, shared laughter, and created memories that we will cherish forever. The trip taught us to be resilient, to push ourselves beyond our limits, and to appreciate the beauty of nature.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to explore the beauty of nature, push my limits, and create memories that I will cherish forever. Hiking through a dense forest, crossing a river, and reaching the summit of a mountain were challenging but rewarding experiences. Despite facing unpredictable weather and rough terrain, we persevered and created memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. The trip taught us the importance of resilience, perseverance, and appreciation for the beauty of nature. It was an experience that I will always treasure and would love to relive again.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example 2

My adventurous trip was an experience of a lifetime. It was a chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and explore the great outdoors. The trip was filled with activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking. The beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings made the trip memorable. Overcoming challenges such as inclement weather and physical exertion added to the sense of accomplishment and adventure. In this essay, I will share my experiences of this unforgettable trip.

Hiking was one of the most exciting activities of the trip. We started our hike early in the morning, and the trail was challenging, but the view was worth it. The trail led us through dense forests, and we saw wildflowers, butterflies, and birds along the way. We stopped for a break at a small waterfall, and the sound of the water was soothing. As we continued our hike, we came across a steep incline, which was physically demanding, but we pushed on. At the peak, we were rewarded with an incredible view of the valley below. The sense of accomplishment we felt after completing the hike was indescribable.

Camping was another activity that added to the adventure of the trip. We set up our tents near a lake, and the view was breathtaking. We spent the night sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows, and sharing stories. The night sky was clear, and we saw countless stars, which was a beautiful sight. The next morning, we woke up early to go kayaking on the lake. The water was calm, and we saw fish jumping out of the water. We even saw a family of ducks swimming nearby. Kayaking was a peaceful and relaxing experience.

The trip was not without its challenges, however. We faced inclement weather during our kayaking, and it was physically demanding. The waves were strong, and the water was choppy. We had to navigate our kayaks through the waves carefully. At times, it was nerve-wracking, but we were able to push through and complete the activity. Overcoming these challenges added to the sense of adventure and accomplishment.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an experience that I will cherish forever. The activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking, the beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings, and the challenges we faced made the trip unforgettable. It was an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone, explore the great outdoors, and create memories with friends. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example 3

Going on an adventurous trip is an experience that many people crave. It is an opportunity to explore new destinations, push oneself to the limit, and create unforgettable memories. I recently had the chance to embark on one such journey, and it was an experience that I will never forget. My adventurous trip involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall. Along the way, I encountered challenging terrain and had to navigate through rough terrain. Despite the difficulties, the stunning views and sense of accomplishment made the trip a truly unforgettable adventure. In this essay, I will describe my trip in detail, highlighting the challenges and the rewards that came with it.

The first part of my adventurous trip involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall. The trail was not well-marked, and the terrain was challenging, consisting of steep inclines, muddy patches, and slippery rocks. The dense foliage made it difficult to see the path ahead, and we had to rely on our instincts and map reading skills to find our way through. The forest was alive with the sounds of birds and small animals, and the air was fresh and invigorating. As we got closer to our destination, the sound of rushing water became louder, and we knew we were getting close. Finally, after several hours of hiking, we arrived at the waterfall, and the sight before us was breathtaking. The waterfall was a powerful force of nature, cascading down from a height of over 100 feet. The water was crystal clear, and the surrounding rocks were covered in moss and ferns. It was a sight that made all the hiking and exertion worth it.

The second part of my adventurous trip involved navigating through rough terrain. The terrain was rocky and uneven, and we had to be careful not to slip or fall. At some points, the trail was so steep that we had to use ropes to climb up or down. The weather was also unpredictable, and we had to be prepared for sudden rain or wind. Despite the challenges, the sense of adventure and excitement kept us going. We were a group of friends, and we encouraged and supported each other along the way. We shared food and water, helped each other over difficult patches, and cheered each other on when we reached a milestone. The journey was not just about reaching the destination; it was also about the bonds we formed and the memories we created.

The final part of my adventurous trip was the sense of accomplishment that came with it. After several hours of hiking, navigating challenging terrain, and enduring unpredictable weather, we finally reached our destination. The feeling of standing in front of the waterfall, surrounded by the beauty of nature, was indescribable. It was a sense of accomplishment that came from pushing ourselves beyond our limits, from facing our fears and overcoming them. We took pictures, laughed, and savored the moment. It was a feeling that stayed with us long after the trip was over. The adventurous trip was not just a physical journey; it was also a journey of the mind and the spirit.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an experience that I will never forget. It involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall, navigating through rough terrain, and the sense of accomplishment that came with it. The trip was challenging, but it was also rewarding. It reminded me of the beauty of nature, the importance of perseverance, and the power of friendship. It was an experience that taught me to appreciate the simple things in life and to embrace the adventure that comes with it.

On a trip to Korea, I rediscovered myself in the food

Until recently, I’ve always felt confident identifying as Korean. But this past winter, I visited Korea for the first time in years. In planning the trip, I realized my relationship to the country had always been mediated by my parents. As the date approached, I began to feel a lot of self-doubt creep in. If I stepped outside the bubble of my family, could I still hold my own?

Hofstra University senior's D-Day essay earns him Normandy trip to mark 80 years since invasion

Hofstra University senior Dominick Pursino's winning essay, intertwining the 1944 D-Day invasion’s military significance with his family history, earned him a trip in June to Normandy, France for the 80th anniversary of the allied assault. Credit: Howard Schnapp

A Hofstra University senior has won the Museum of American Armor’s D-Day essay contest. His prize is a professionally guided tour that will put him on the beaches of Normandy, France, on June 6, the 80th anniversary of the largest amphibious invasion in history.

Dominick Pursino, 22, of Commack, wrote an essay that intertwined the invasion’s military significance with his family history. Pursino's connection was indirect but powerful: His late grandmother had lived under Nazi occupation in Italy during World War II and heard about the Allied operation on the radio.

From her, Pursino wrote, he heard stories about the “synchronous stomping of the German troops in formation,” forced labor and severe punishments, and later, the chocolate handed out by American troops.

Had D-Day failed, he wrote, so might have the Allied war effort. His grandmother might never have immigrated to Brooklyn and suburban Long Island. Were it not for the soldiers on Normandy’s beaches, he wrote, “my existence on this planet would be extremely unlikely.”

Pursino, an education major who hopes to teach middle school social studies and special education, said in an interview that his grandmother, Christina D’Agostino — who died several years ago at 92 — was in her teens in 1941 when the Nazis appeared in her small hometown of Giovinazzo. They left in 1943. Pursino said D’Agostino was a professional artist who settled in Kings Park.

He said he’d listened avidly to his grandmother’s stories about life under occupation: the strict rules, the curfews, the neighbors who sometimes disappeared. D-Day, when the Allies used 7,000 vessels to land 133,000 troops, of which more than 10,000 were either killed or wounded, is now considered a watershed moment in the war. But as it unfolded for Pursino’s grandmother, “it took a while for it to be deemed successful,” he recalled.

Leading up to his June Normandy trip, Pursino said he plans to read up on the history of World War II. His 10-day adventure will start in London “in the war rooms where they planned the whole campaign.” A ferry ride over the channel waters crossed by the troops will follow, then on to the beaches where the troops landed.

But it's the stories his grandmother told to him of her life and how the invasion changed it that Pursino hopes to one day tell his students.

“In history, you always learn about the big names, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But sometimes there are more interesting personal stories that can be taken from those who didn’t get representation in textbooks,” he said.

In an interview, Gary Lewi, a museum board member and one of the contest judges, said Pursino’s essay was chosen from roughly 100 entries. It “put together, in a very cogent way, the sacrifice of thousands of GIs on the beach and the liberation of a continent from a terror that is still unimaginable,” Lewi said. “It wasn’t just a recitation of statistics, how many ships, how many men, but the human dimension of what that sacrifice on June 6 meant to humanity.”

While Pursino is in Europe, the museum will commemorate D-Day with a ceremony at its Old Bethpage grounds, Lewi said. Scheduled to attend are British and French diplomats, military veterans, along with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine.

The ceremony will honor two Long Islanders killed in the invasion, Charles T. Byrnes and Sidney Dudgeon , Lewi said.

Seventy-five years ago this past week, Sam Snead won the Masters Tournament and became the first champion to receive one of Augusta National Golf Club’s green jackets.

Until he died in 2002 , the jacket was his to wear every time he returned to Augusta. These days, it is a sartorial symbol of how, beyond a freighted history and marvelous azaleas and golf’s geopolitical machinations and gallery roars that ripple from Amen Corner to the clubhouse, Augusta National is more enchanted by champions than most places.

Since the start of the month, Lottie Woad has captured the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Eight children were named champions of a junior golf competition after playing at Augusta. More than 30 past Masters winners gathered for dinner to honor Jon Rahm , last year’s champion, and Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson hit tee shots to start this year’s tournament. Many of their brethren played afterward, because they are allowed to for life. On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler, who was already familiar with the locker room reserved for past champions, won the 88th Masters.

There may be no place in men’s golf where hope, dazzle and ambition are as abundant as Augusta.

But this past week, all of the possibilities seemed to be on greater display than usual. There was the solar eclipse on Monday, when fans peered skyward, just as Ben Crenshaw and Nick Faldo did here, too. Later on, Tiger Woods , 48 years old and two years removed from the last time he finished a major tournament, made his record 24th consecutive Masters cut. But he faded on Saturday.

Higher up the leaderboard during the third round, players like Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai Hojgaard, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele hunted for their debut major title, while Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Smith looked to build on the magic that had made them champions elsewhere not all that long ago. Scheffler occasionally stumbled, but on Sunday, he dominated and locked down his second Masters victory before the birth of his first child.

Golf enthusiasts often regard a trip to the Masters as the stuff of dreams. It certainly is for players. The Masters represents a shot at becoming one of those champions written into history, with the green jackets and the possibility of forever enchanting Augusta.

Best Carry-On Luggage 2024

These are some of the best carry-on luggage you can buy today, including these popular styles from Samsonite and CALPAK. Amazon, CALPAK

  • Dawn Magyar | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

If you have a vacation planned this year, you’ll definitely want carry-on luggage to keep your most important essentials by your side.

These all-important carry-on bags can hold everything you need while on the plane but don’t trust to pack in your checked luggage. This may include your laptop, medications, a change of clothes and other valuables you want to keep an eye on.

Making carry-on luggage even more crucial to your trip is the ability to skip the dreaded wait at the baggage claim with all space to pack your belongings inside. Plus, there’s often plenty of pockets and storage features to keep your necessities organized and in place.

But with so many different carry-on luggage options on the market today, it can be a real challenge to decide which one to buy.

To help, here are some of the most recommended carry-on luggage available, including styles from Beis and CALPAK .

  • Beis The Carry-On Roller: “This brand from actress Shay Mitchell has gone viral on TikTok thanks to its stunning monochromatic designs and its unique features, including a built-in weight indicator that lets you know if your luggage is over 50 pounds. It also has an extendable strap in the front that lets you attach a smaller bag, helping to free up your hands while traveling,” Good Housekeeping says.
  • CALPAK Ambeur Mini Carry-On: “They’re slim, sleek, sport a rock-solid polycarbonate shell, feature an assortment of pockets and plenty of storage space, but its low price point makes it an especially attractive option for thrifty travelers,” Time says.
  • Samsonite Freeform Carry-On Spinner: “Even after six months of regularly traveling with this bag, it shows no signs of wear and tear, and any scuffs it has accumulated have been easily buffed out. Considering the reasonable price, durable construction, and spacious capacity, we think it’s a great choice for frequent fliers and anyone in need of a high-quality carry-on,” Travel + Leisure says.
  • Away The Carry-On: “The lightweight polycarbonate-shell suitcases come in a spectrum of Instagram-worthy colors at a reasonable price. You can pick and choose upgrades like suitcase or luggage tag monogramming or an ejectable USB charger that keeps tech juiced up,” Forbes says.
  • Travelpro Platinum Elite Softside Carry-On Spinner: “This bag is designed to disappear by your side. It earned top marks in both ease of transport and for design and functionality. Well-placed grab handles and adequate adjustment stops on the telescoping handle make it easy to carry, load, or roll the bag, depending on the situation. There is even a grab handle on the bottom side of the case, so you won’t find yourself patting around to find an extra handhold when you need it,” GearLab says.
