ನನ್ನ ಶಾಲಾ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ನೋದ ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು. ಈ ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಹೆಸರು ನವಾಬ್ ವಾಜಿದ್ ಅಲಿ ಶಾ ಝೂಲಾಜಿಕಲ್ ಪಾರ್ಕ್. ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಮೊದಲ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಭೇಟಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾನು ತುಂಬಾ ಉತ್ಸುಕನಾಗಿದ್ದೆ.

ಕೆಲವು ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ನಂತರ ನಾವು ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಮೃಗಾಲಯವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದೆವು ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತು ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಲು ತಮ್ಮ ಸರದಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆನ್‌ಲೈನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಟಿಕೆಟ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಬುಕ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಸರತಿ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರಾಗಿ ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋದೆವು.

ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರವೇಶ – ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರವೇಶದ್ವಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ದೈತ್ಯ ಮರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಈ ಮರದ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಎಲೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಂಗಗಳು, ಕರಡಿಗಳು, ನವಿಲುಗಳು, ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು, ಮುಂತಾದ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಆಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಗೇಟ್ ಮುಂದೆಯೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಿಂಹದ ಆಕಾರವನ್ನು ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಮರದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಜೀಬ್ರಾ, ಘೇಂಡಾಮೃಗ, ಜಿರಾಫೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಆಕಾರವನ್ನು ಸಹ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ನಮಗೆ ಮೃಗಾಲಯದೊಳಗಿನ ಭೂದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದ್ವಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಹಲವು ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದಿದ್ದೆವು.

ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಒಳಗೆ – ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ಸಿಂಹ, ಕರಡಿ, ಆನೆ, ಘೇಂಡಾಮೃಗ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಕ್ಕಿನ ಆವರಣದಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದ ಕಪ್ಪು ಜಿಂಕೆಗಳ ಹಿಂಡು ಇತ್ತು. ಜಿಂಕೆಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಯ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸುರಕ್ಷತಾ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಬೋರ್ಡ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಚಿಂಪಾಂಜಿಯ ಆವಾಸಸ್ಥಾನವು ತುಂಬಾ ಆಸಕ್ತಿದಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಚಿಂಪಾಂಜಿಗಳು ಕುಳಿತು ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಶಾಖವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಚಿಂಪಾಂಜಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು, ಅದು ನಮಗೆ ನಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಚಿಂಪಾಂಜಿಗಳು ತುಂಬಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು, ಅವರು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದರು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದು ಚಿಂಪಾಂಜಿಯ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಚಲನವಲನಗಳನ್ನು ಆನಂದಿಸಿದೆವು. ಅದರ ನಂತರ ನಾವು ಆಸ್ಟ್ರಿಚ್ ಅನ್ನು ಅದರ ಪಂಜರದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದಂತೆ ಅದು ತುಂಬಾ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹಕ್ಕಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಮೃಗಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಬಗೆಯ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳ ಪಂಜರವಿತ್ತು. ಇಂತಹ ಹೇರಳವಾದ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಾವು ಮೈಮರೆತಿದ್ದೆವು. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ವಿವಿಧ ಬಣ್ಣಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ತಳಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ನಂತರ ನಾವು ಸಿಂಹ ಮತ್ತು ಹುಲಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಸಿಂಹವು ತುಂಬಾ ಭಯಾನಕವಾಗಿ ಘರ್ಜಿಸಿತು. ಹುಲಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಆವರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಇಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಓಡಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ನಾವು ಮೃಗಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಹಿಮಾಲಯನ್ ಕರಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಅವುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಆವರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬಿಳಿ ಹುಲಿಯನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿದೆವು.

ಇದೆಲ್ಲದರ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ, ಮೃಗಾಲಯವು ವಿವಿಧ ಸ್ವಿಂಗ್‌ಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆಟಿಕೆ ರೈಲು ಕೂಡ ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ 4-5 ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಮೃಗಾಲಯದೊಳಗೆ ಇದ್ದೆವು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಮೃಗಾಲಯದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದೆವು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು.

ಮೃಗಾಲಯವು ಕಲಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮನರಂಜನೆಯ ಸ್ಥಳವೇ ?

ಮೃಗಾಲಯವು ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಲು ಬಹಳ ಮನರಂಜನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಸಕ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣ ಮುಂದೆ ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುವ ಸಿಂಹ, ಕರಡಿ, ಘೇಂಡಾಮೃಗ, ಬಿಳಿ ಹುಲಿ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೃಗಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಜೀವನ ವಿಧಾನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಡವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನಾವು ಬಹಳ ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ನೋಡಬಹುದು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಬಹುದು.

ಪ್ರಾಣಿಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾವು ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ. ನಾವು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಟಿವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈಗಷ್ಟೇ ನೋಡಿದೆ. ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ ನಂತರ, ನಾವು ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಮಯ ಕಳೆಯಲು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ನಮಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಡಲು ಮನಸ್ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃಗಾಲಯವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೋಜು ಮಾಡಲು ಮತ್ತು ಆನಂದಿಸಲು ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದೇ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ನಾವು ಮೃಗಾಲಯವು ಕಲಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮನರಂಜನೆಗೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.

ಈ ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ ನಂತರ ನನಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಯಿತು. ನಾನು ಮೃಗಾಲಯದೊಳಗೆ ಕಳೆದದ್ದು ನನ್ನ ಜೀವನದ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಅನುಭವ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೃಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವಾಗ ನಾವು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗಸೂಚಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಬೇಕು ಇದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಕೋಪವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಕಾಡೆಂದರೆ ಬರೀ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳಿರುವ ಜಾಗವಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಣ್ಣ!

ಕಾಡೆಂದರೆ ಬರೀ ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳಲ್ಲ. ಅವು ಸಿಗದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಬೇಸರ ಪಡಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಕಾಡಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೇನೋ ಇದೆ. ಗಾಳಿಯಿದೆ, ವಾಸನೆಯಿದೆ, ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯಿದೆ, ತನ್ಮಯತೆಯಿದೆ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಿದೆ. ಹುಡುಕುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕೇ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ..

ಕಾಡಿನ ಅನುಭವವೇ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ. ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಮರೆತು ಅದ್ಯಾವುದೋ ಪ್ರಪಂಚಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತೆ. ಅದರ ಪರಿಸರವೇ ಹಾಗೆ. ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಸಂಜೀವಿನಿಯ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾರವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದೊಯ್ದು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ನೀಡಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಕಾಲಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಕಾಡಿನಿಂದ ನಾಡಿನತ್ತ ಸಂಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿದ. ಕಾಡಿನ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುವುದು ಮರೆತುಬಿಟ್ಟ. ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮುಂದುವರೆದರೂ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಗೆ ತಲೆಬಾಗಲೇಬೇಕು.

ನಮ್ಮ ಪೂರ್ವಜರು ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಹತ್ವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಮ್ಮ ವೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡ ಕಾಡಿನ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಥರ್ವ ವೇದದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನಿಂದ ಏನನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳೂತ್ತೇನೂ, ಅದು ನಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಗ ಪುನಃ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಇದನ್ನೇ ಇವತ್ತು ಸಸ್ಟೈಬಲ್ ಡೆವೆಲಪ್‌ಮೆಂಟ್ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಒಂದು ಸಿದ್ದಾಂತವನ್ನು ಚಂದ್ರಗುಪ್ತ ಮೌರ್ಯ, ಅಕ್ಬರ್, ಶಿವಾಜಿಯವರಂತಹ ರಾಜರು ಕೂಡ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಬ್ರಿಟೀಷರು ಬಂದಾಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಾಡಿನ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಶೋಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆಯುರ್ವೇದದಂತಹ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ಕೂಡ ಕಾಡನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿದೆ. ಕಾಡಿನ ಸಿಗುವ ಬೇರು ಸೊಪ್ಪು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಖಾಯಿಲೆಗೆ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಕಾಡಿನ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮತೆಯನ್ನು ಅರಿಯಲು ಶುರು ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಅದರ ವಿಸ್ಮಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಡತೊಡಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೋ ಬೀಸುವ ಗಾಳಿ ಯಾವುದೋ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಯ ವಾಸನೆ ತಂದಿರಬಹುದು. ಇದನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಹಿಡಿದು ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ.

ಚಿಲಿಪಿಲಿ ಗುಡುವ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ಕಾಡಿನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಭಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ನೀವು ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ತಜ್ಞರನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಅದು ಏನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿರಬಹುದೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನೀವು ಸಾಕಿರುವ ನಾಯಿ ಏಕೆ ಬೊಗುಳುತ್ತಿದೆ? ಏಕೆ ಸಪ್ಪಗಿದೆ? ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಅರಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆಯೋ, ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಅವರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದುಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಕಾಡನ್ನು ಬರೀ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಇರುವ ಜಾಗ ಎಂಬ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾವು ಬಿಡಬೇಕು. ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಸಫಾರಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಕಾಣದಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಿರಾಶರಾಗಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಬಾರಿ ನಮಗೂ ಕೂಡ ಏನೂ ಕಂಡಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆಯುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಕ್ಷಣವು ನಮಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ.

ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನಮ್ಮ ತಂಡದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಂಡೀಪುರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೆವು. ಹಲವಾರು ಸಫಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ನಮಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಕಂಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುತ್ತುವ ಅನುಭವವೇ ನಮಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುವ ಹೊತ್ತಲ್ಲಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲೆ ನಮಗೆ ಚಿರತೆ ಕಂಡಿತು. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ. ಆದರೆ, ಚಿರತೆ ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನಾವು ನಿರಾಶರಾಗಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಿಕ್ಕರೆ ಅದು ಬೋನಸ್.

ನಾವು ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಕಾಡನ್ನು ನೋಡುವ ರೀತಿ ಬದಲಾಗಬೇಕು. ಏನನ್ನೂ ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸಿದೆ ಒಂದು ನಿರ್ಮಲ ಚಿತ್ತದಿಂದ ಹೋದಾಗ ಉತ್ತಮ ಅನುಭವವಾಗುವುದಂತೂ ಸತ್ಯ. ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಬಾರಿ ನಾವು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಹತ್ತಿರವಿದ್ದರೂ ನಮಗೆ ಕಂಡಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದರ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣ ಅದನ್ನು ಮರೆಮಾಚಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವು ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡದಿದ್ದರೂ ಅದು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಸೂಚನೆಯು ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಹಾಕಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ 70.2 ಮಿಲಿಯನ್ ಹೆಕ್ಟೇರ್ ಜಾಗದಷ್ಟು ಕಾಡಿದೆ. ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು ಇದರ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆಂದು ಶ್ರಮವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಕಾಡನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವವನ್ನೇ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಡಿಪಾಗಿಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಾಡಿನ ವಾಚ್‌ಗಾರ್ಡ್ಸ್ ವಷಾನುಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದರ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆ ದುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರಿಗೆಂದು ಆಂಟಿ ಕೋಚಿಂಗ್ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪ್ಸ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಈ ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಪ್ರಬಂಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳಿಂದಾಗುವ ಉಪಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಾಗಿವೆ.

ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಕುರಿತು ಪ್ರಬಂಧ

ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿರುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾಡು, ನದಿ, ಪರ್ವತಗಳಂತಹ ಅನೇಕ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು, ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು, ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು, ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳು ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಅನೇಕ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಕೊರತೆಯಿದೆ. ಭಾರತವು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳಿಂದ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. 

ವಿಷಯ ವಿವರಣೆ :

ಕಳೆದ ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ 20% ಸಸ್ತನಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು 100% ಸಸ್ಯ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳು ಅಳಿವಿನ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಇದು ನಮಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಸವಾಲಿನ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಇಂದು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ನಮಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಎಂದರೆ :

ಅಳಿವಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಸ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಜಾತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ವಿವಿಧ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನೀತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾವು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಭೂಮಿಯ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಮತೋಲನ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ದುಷ್ಪರಿಣಾಮವನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯರಾದ ನಾವೇ ಅನುಭವಿಸಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳಿವೆ.

ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆ

• ಕಾಡುಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳಿಂದ ಮನುಕುಲಕ್ಕೆ ಅನೇಕ ಅನುಕೂಲಗಳು ಆಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇವು ಮನುಕುಲದ ಏಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಆಧಾರವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಈ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿವೆ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಸಮತೋಲನವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುತ್ತಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪರೋಕ್ಷವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿವೆ. 
• ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರವು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನಗಳು, ಅಭಯಾರಣ್ಯಗಳು, ಮೃಗಾಲಯಗಳು, ವಸ್ತುಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಂದ ಅಪಾರ ಆದಾಯ ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ.
• ಅನೇಕ ಕಾಡುಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪಡೆದ ಚರ್ಮ, ಕೊಂಬು, ಗರಿಗಳು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವಿಧ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಲು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
•  ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಅಂಗರಚನಾಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವು ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಹೋಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ, ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಸಹ ಬಹಳ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿವೆ.
• ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರಂಜಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಯಾರನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಭಯ, ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ, ಸಂತೋಷ, ಕುತೂಹಲ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ.  ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಅಭಯಾರಣ್ಯಗಳು, ಹುಲ್ಲೆಗಳು, ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮನರಂಜನೆಯ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
• ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಆಹಾರ ಸರಪಳಿಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವುಗಳಿಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಭಾವದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮತೋಲನ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸಿದಾಗ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಮತೋಲನ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಭೂಕಂಪ, ಸುನಾಮಿಯಂತಹ ಪ್ರಾಕೃತಿಕ ವಿಕೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.
• ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯು ಅನೇಕ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಅನೇಕ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆಗಳು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಧಾರಿತವಾಗಿವೆ.
• ಜೇನು-ಜೇನುನೊಣಗಳು, ಪ್ರಾಣಿ-ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ಮುಂತಾದವು ಪರಾಗಸ್ಪರ್ಶ, ಬೀಜ ಸಂಸ್ಕರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬೀಜ ವಿತರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗಿವೆ.
• ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಹಿಕ್ಕೆ, ಮಲ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳಿಂದ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಗೊಬ್ಬರ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ನಿಜವಾದ ಸಹಚರರು. ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಕಾಡಿನ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಸಹಕಾರಿ. ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಸಂತೋಷಕ್ಕೆ ಆಧಾರವೂ ಇದೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಕಲ ಜೀವರಾಶಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾನಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹಣದ ದುರಾಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ಕಾಡನ್ನೇ ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಅಸಹಾಯಕ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಮನೆಗಳು ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಭಾರೀ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಾಡುಗಳು ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಿಂದ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ಆವಾಸವೇ ಇಲ್ಲವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಕಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದರೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ವಿಕೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವೂ ಕೊನೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಂದಿನಿಂದಲೇ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. 

ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಕ್ರಮಗಳು

• ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆ ಮೊದಲು ಕಾನೂನು ಬಾಹಿರ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಬೇಕು. ಅನೇಕ ಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಚರ್ಮ, ಉಗುರುಗಳು, ಹಲ್ಲುಗಳು, ಕೊಂಬುಗಳು, ಗರಿಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇಟೆಯಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಅಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಕಾರ ಕಟ್ಟುನಿಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕು. ಅಂತಹವರಿಗೆ ಕಠಿಣ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಂಡ ವಿಧಿಸಬೇಕು.
•  ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದರೆ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿನಾಶದಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದು. ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯುವುದನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕು.
•  ಜಲ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ, ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯವು ಪರಿಸರದ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕೂಲ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳ ಆವಾಸಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ನಾವು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವುದು ಸಹ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. 

ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮನುಕುಲವು ತನ್ನ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದರೆ, ಪರಿಸರವನ್ನು ಸಮತೋಲನಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು, ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಬೇಕು, ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರವನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಬೇಕು, ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಯಂಚಾಲಿತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಬೇಕಾದರೆ, ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಕು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಕಾಡು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿರಿಸುವುದು ಮಾನವ ಜನಾಂಗದ ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗಾಗಿ, ಮಾನವ ಜನಾಂಗವು ತನ್ನ ಕೆಲವು ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

The Mysuru Zoo or the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens is the most popular zoo in Karnataka and is one of the oldest zoos in the country, established in 1892. The zoo is home to abundant flora and fauna and is known for 1,450 species of animals and 168 species of birds belonging to more than 25 countries. Mysuru Zoo is a must-visit when in Mysuru , particularly for animal lovers and families with kids.

Adopt an animal : Mysore zoo has an adoption program where visitors can fund caretaking expenses of an animal and support a noble cause.

Timing: Mysuru Zoo is open from 8.30 AM till 5.30 PM on all days, except on Tuesday (weekly holiday). It is recommended to enter the Zoo campus at least two to three hours before closing hours for maximum experience. Also, note that animals often prefer taking rest between 11 AM and 3 PM due to intense heat. Birds and animals are most active during early morning hours or after 3 PM

Mysore Zoo – Of History and Animals

Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens or more commonly known as Mysore Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world. Established in the year 1892 by the Royals of the Mysore, this Zoological Gardens was formed from a part of Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar’s summer palace area.

Located within an area of 157 acres (64 hectares), Mysore Zoo is the second most visited place in Mysore after Mysore Palace. It is currently an abode to 1,450 specimens of animals and birds consisting of 168 species belonging to more than 25 countries.

History of Mysore Zoo

This century-old Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens has a very interesting history to be proud of. The then Maharaja Chamarajendra was a visionary and wanted to design a wee laid city. he envisioned the city with full of gardens, great landscape and owning a zoo of its own. Initially designed as a private zoo for the Royals which was named as Khas-Bangale and even Thamash Bangle. The entry of the general public started in 1920.

Mr. G.H. Krumbeigal, a German horticulturist, and landscaper were appointed to set up the Zoological gardens, which was originally 10 acres in size. The zoo was subsequently expanded to 45 acres in size over the next 10 years and the work of expansion and landscaping was given to Australian national called Mr. Huge. The administration of the zoo, post-independence was handed over by the then King to the Department of Parks and Gardens run by the then Mysore State Government.

Karanji Lake which covers an area of 77.02 acres is also a part of the zoo. This lake was taken over by the zoo in the year 1976.

The Planning

Meticulous planning is the special feature of Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, all the species of animals live in their natural habitat without any cages or barricades. The Zoological Gardens is designed on modern lines and enclosures for animals are provided using moats.

Maharaja Chamarajendra personally selected the animals from various countries of Europe and Africa. He brought animals like Primates, Antelopes, Chimpanzee, Giraffes, Orangutans, Gorillas and Bears. He also brought rare exhibits like American Bison, Polar Bear, Californian Sea Horse, Polar Bear, White Elephant, Penguin and Kangaroo and successfully exhibited them.

Animals and Birds at Mysore Zoo

The Zoological Gardens is proud to have a collecting of big cats like Cheetah, Jaguar, Tiger, Lion and small cats like Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Common Palm Civet and Small Indian Civet. It is the only zoo in India to exhibit a Gorilla. Other Primates include Baboon, Capuchin Monkey, and Marmoset, a variety of Lemur, Chimpanzee and common Indian Langur.

The Zoological Garden is also abode to large mammals like Elephants belonging to both Asiatic and African region, Black and White African Rhino, Gaur and Hippopotamus.

The Zoological Gardens is also proud to own flightless birds like Emu, Rhea, Ostrich, and Cassowary. There is also a huge collection of Terrestrial birds, aquatic birds, deers, antelopes, ducks, and reptiles.

Major Attractions of Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens

A massive aviary is built in the Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens. A bridge is made right in the centre of the aviary, to enable visitors to walk through the bridge and watch the birds closely. Painted Stork, Pelican, Blue and White Peacocks, colourful Flamingoes, Cranes, etc. can be seen in this aviary very easily.

Apart from exhibiting animals the Zoological Gardens also has an aquarium and a museum. The zoo museum exhibits stuffed animals. The Zoological Gardens also has a library and a veterinary hospital. The zoo regularly organizes essay and painting competitions to create love and awareness towards amongst children.

Animal Adoption Program at Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens

The zoo is into wildlife conservation programs like captive breeding for endangered species. To run these programs successfully requires financial support on a regular basis. In order to fund the same, the Zoological Gardens has launched an animal adoption program wherein the general public can adopt an animal for a complete year. Under this program, one can contribute towards the feeding expenditures towards the animal of their choice.

The adopter will have a few privileges like publicity in leading newspapers, complimentary entry to the zoo and a Certificate of Adoption. This innovative idea is launched to inspire people and generate sympathy towards animals and to promote wildlife conservation.

Short on a Visit to a Zoo Essay 

Last Sunday, my family and I went to the zoo. It was a sunny day and we got there at 8 am. When we arrived, there was a big crowd at the entrance. Some people were buying tickets, and others were just enjoying the nice weather and chatting.

Inside, we found a lovely lake with ducks and swans swimming around. It was pretty cool to see all those white ducks on the water. As we walked around, we came across a place with lots of birds – parrots, pigeons, eagles, and sparrows of different colors. The birds were making some enchanting music, and we stopped to enjoy it for a bit.

Next, we saw big cats like leopards, lions, tigers, and tigresses. One lion even rushed towards us, and its roars were really loud and scary. Moving on, we checked out a tiger's den. The tiger had sharp teeth and gave us a fierce look. It walked gracefully towards us, but its roar made us step back. We also saw bears and elephants. The elephants were majestic, swinging their trunks in the air, and the bears were happily playing together.

In another area, there were deer and stags taking strolls, and they were playful and beautiful. We then found a spot with baboons and monkeys in a big tree. They were jumping around, playing pranks, and some even came down for bananas. Kids were having fun making faces at them.

Later, we visited an aquarium with colorful fishes and dolphins happily playing in the water. Near the end, we saw sad polar bears in an enclosure, so we gave them some food. The black bear in another cage was doing tricks, and people were thrilled. We also checked out crocodiles, snakes like pythons and cobras, but the hissing cobras made us move away.
