The Levels of Operations Management Implementation

The management of the operations is primarily done at the following three levels –

  • Strategic Level: Work on the broader terms, where the goals of the company are defined, and the operations managers are assigned the task to develop the strategies accordingly. For example, if we try to define all the three levels with respect to an organization engaged in furniture business, then the strategic level of operations management would include the preparation of blueprint for the location and the layout of the furniture factory.
  • Tactical Level:  The tactics are used by the employees at the managerial level to accomplish those strategies step by step. These include the tasks or the steps that are defined to successfully implement the strategies. The tactical level shall incorporate the hiring and training of the workforce to function as per the strategic needs and set the roadmap of executing the third level.
  • Operations Level: The final level where all the components of production are brought together and materialised. These include the purchase of wood and fabric, the availability of raw materials and cutting tools and all the other fabrication equipment. It is widely regarded and practised as the final level of operations management before the final product or service gets its final shape.

The students who frequently reach us for dissertation help are assigned with the operations management homework somehow revolving around these three levels only. When experts having real-life practical understanding of the things get involved in the assignment writing process, it reflects in the submitted work word-by-word.

We are surely not expecting the students to submit a miracle of an assignment homework once they go through the provided set of dissertation topics below. The quality of the work still be dependent upon the consistency with the language, syntax proficiency, delivery of citation in instructed referencing style, and conducting plethora of concrete research to back each argument. Not to mention, crisp editing chops and seamless proofreading of the final draft is also somehow not related to the selection of the topic.

But what we are expecting out of this whole effort is to ensure that our students do have a wide range of pertinent topics to pick from. Our efforts are directed to the fact that our students pick a topic that is trending in the contemporary age and does make sense in the eyes of the evaluator.

Additionally, our prima-facie motto is to help our management students to save time, energy, and resources. The most complex dilemma faced by our students is the exploration and selection of the right topic. What, and why? Most of the students fight these conundrums to reach the most suited topic selection and spend an exhaustive amount of time and research. Exploring the topic at the personal level of the student could be a relevant choice in case he or she have months at disposal before the final submission of work. It is the privilege accessible to the scholars submitting their paper or thesis for research purpose only.

Management students following a conventional curriculum are required to submit their homework assignments with a stringent deadline. That is the point where not only days, even the hours count! Here, the accessibility to strong dissertation topics, and that too for free could become a real game-changer for the students. Besides, their request for online assignment help is served on priority right from topic selection to the dispatch of purely refined final homework draft.

The PhD Experience at Booth

For Vishal Ahuja, PhD ’13, a key strength of the Chicago Booth community is its interdisciplinary nature.

Vishal Ahuja

Video Transcript

Vishal Ahuja '13: 00:03 I find one of the strengths of University of Chicago is the interdisciplinary nature of the work, and then as long as you've got ideas people like to work together. I started getting interested in health care after I took a course in public policy. My research deals with clinical trials. What we are trying to do is to improve the way trials are conducted. As patients come in and are allocated one to the treatment arm and one to the placebos. Now, let's say after a year you find that one treatment in particular is doing extremely well, which means great patient outcomes. On the other, it's just bad.

Vishal Ahuja '13: 00:40 Wouldn't you want to allocate the patients on the bad arm to the better arm? The problem is that if you find out after a year that one arm is better than the other, or one treatment is better than the placebo, or the generic, you can't stop, because otherwise that you're violating the protocol. There has to be a scientific protocol that says, if this, this, this, and this happens, then do this. If eight out of 10 patients see success, and four out of 10 on B don't see success, then allocate one patient, move one patient from B to A. There has to be a scientific, what I call a policy, that the FDA is aware of, and is building the protocol.

Vishal Ahuja '13: 01:15 The fundamental idea is being adaptive about how you allocate patients, but do so in a scientific way, and when there are multiple patients present. My dissertation committee was very much interdisciplinary in nature, one from economics, three from operations and one for Pittsburgh School of Medicine. And I think I benefited a lot from having that interdisciplinary committee. I find that medical community is much more amenable to these kinds of methodologies and the ways of addressing the problem. What I find is that we're missing that language barrier where we think we're doing this great work and they think these guys are just doing some work that's not applicable. So fighting that communication barrier, I think, is the key. And you get to appreciate how some of the work that Booth students do, including myself, it could potentially impact patient lives.

Consumer returns and environmental sustainability greatly impact the operational decisions that firms make. Focusing on consumer returns, lenient return policies aid consumers with resolving uncertainty but impose additional reverse logistics costs on retailers. The current retail landscape has largely eliminated the possibility of offering more stringent return policies since consumers have come to expect such policies as a given. This has driven retailers to look for innovative solutions while still offering costly free return policies. With respect to environmental sustainability, a number of operational decisions have been examined in the academic literature. These have ranged all the way from examining closed loop supply chains to understanding the impact of operational decisions in varied contexts such as food waste and energy markets.

While returns and sustainability have been jointly examined in the context of closed loop supply chains, in this dissertation, we look at how they independently manifest in unique ways in the apparel industry as well as in the context of crowd-funding. Specifically, in Chapter 2, we examine whether an online apparel retailer can maximize profits by encouraging the seemingly deleterious consumer practice of bracketing. In Chapter 3, we compare two commonly used supply chain approaches to apparel retail (fast fashion and the traditional approach) in terms of environmental impact. We shift gears in Chapter 4, where we empirically examine whether business ventures with a sustainability orientation achieve higher success than those without such an orientation in a crowdfunding setting.

Operations Management: Theory and Practice Essay

Operation management explains the processes that a product or service passes through during its production. It deals with the design, manufacture, services, and supply of the product. Operations management deals with the procedures that ensure that a firm delivers the desired product and service to the client.

It considers the concepts of quality, efficiency, and responsiveness to customers (Mahadevan, 2010). These concepts relate to the methodologies of operation management, which includes; operating budget, productivity enhancement tools, peripheral operations, and open line of communication within the staff.

This paper reflects on the relevance and the practical applications of concepts and methodologies of operation management.

The operating budget finances the continued activities of the organization. The money kept under the operating budget primary function is to fund the activities of all units in the business. In addition, the productivity enhancement tools cut down the costs and concurrently, increase the profits.

This makes the products relatively expensive for the customers. The organization makes use of pie charts, flow charts and the other presentation models to enhance better understanding. Moreover, every employee in the organization is accountable for an effective operations management (Mahadevan, 2010).

For this reason, the organization uses open line communication between the different departments. This process is virtually important to everyone within the firm, both the employees and the clients. Therefore, these methodologies relates to the concepts of quality, efficiency, and responsiveness to customers.

Operation management is of significant benefit to the organization. When the business effectively uses its available resources and work force in production process, it will meet their clients’ requirements. Therefore, the management must be creative, energetic, and innovative to improve the production process.

This will increase the company’s profits because the customers will be satisfied due to the high quality of products and services. The organization also cuts on the cost of production.

Mahadevan (2010) explains that operation management provides a background to the future innovations by supporting new ideas and knowledge of employees within the business. Therefore, the operation management is of importance to the success of the business.

The operation management is a chain of activities that all depend on each other for successful outcome. The processes are inter-related, therefore, operation management has to effectively check and monitor these activities.

This is the principal disadvantage, the marketing functions, finance, procurement, production, distribution and all other activities has to co-relate well for a successful completion. If the processes are not in place to work together, then the process will fail.

It is of value to have a clear understanding of this topic. Operation management is a wide topic that covers an important part in any organization (Mahadevan, 2010). If ignored, then the management must prepare for low profit margins and customer dissatisfaction.

Finally, the concepts and methodologies discussed above apply to all working environments. Importantly, the business responsiveness to customer satisfaction is vital. The organization must work with the aim of meeting the demands of their clients.

Again, the methodologies involved gives more credit in meeting the clients satisfaction. On the other hand, if these concepts and methodologies are not applied, the business is at a risk of customer dissatisfaction and lack of production. This affects the profit profile of the business, as their profits decreases.

Anyone recommending these concepts and methodologies of operation management ought to present them as critical requirements in an enterprise. For a less knowledgeable audience, this topic is an inclusive monitoring of all the processes that a product or a service undergoes to completion.
