What is The Presentation Experience?

The Presentation Experience is a school-based role play experience that allows players to take turns presenting randomly selected topics that are either created by the AI teacher or other players/students in the classroom. Once the teacher calls on you to present, you better be ready—you only have a few minutes to make a great impression! During presentations, other students can clap, scream, jump out of their seat, sleep, burp, and more to interrupt or cheer on their peers. The teacher will do her best to control the class, but it's only a matter of time before things get out of hand!

About The Presentation Experience

Put your presentation skills to the test in The Presentation Experience, a roleplaying presentation game. Starting out as a student in a school classroom, you'll have to sit tight until a random player is chosen to give a presentation about a randomly selected topic. As a student, it is your job to interrupt the presentation as much as possible, whether that be through crying, farting, or even vomiting. If chosen to give a presentation, you'll need to wow the audience in order to receive a good score. Higher scores will earn you more points, which can be spent in the shop on cool new emotes and interruption methods!

Winter Roblox Week 2023

We kicked off 2023 with Roblox Week at HQ in San Mateo, CA. Roblox Week takes a typical company all-hands to the next level – our team gathers in person for a week of activities that foster employee connection, create a sense of community, and celebrate the technical innovations we’re building to drive the future of our platform and business. Following the success of our first Roblox Week in July of 2022, we decided to kick-start the new year with another event, bringing everyone together to align on our shared vision to move the company and product forward.

Roblox CEO and Founder Dave Baszucki reflected on the power of our people and the Roblox Operating System: “If we have amazing people and leaders, strong processes to build our teams, responsibility at all levels, innovative ways to offer autonomy in our work, and a plan to keep it all linked together, that's really the product we work on. If we build this product, take responsibility and build it really well, we then end up building this other product called Roblox, challenging each other to achieve our vision, and executing at an incredible level.”

Momentum Around Our Vision

Throughout the week, employees had the chance to connect at various hosted happenings on and around our campus. The main event? An in-person Town Hall where the Roblox executive team talked about our ambitious product roadmap for 2023, detailed the technical challenges we’ll need to solve to achieve our roadmap, and celebrated wins from our strong 2022 . The energy in the room was palpable as employees heard about the exciting expedition ahead for our company.

"It was great to hear from a variety of Roblox’s leaders about the ambitious vision we have for the future. True passion and dedication to the platform was evident in every word they spoke, and it was inspiring to see the direction we are heading," shared John Stauffer, VP of Engineering for the Engine group.

Collaboration Drives Innovation

In addition to the broader company events, many teams and groups used the intentional time together to hold their own collaboration sessions – facilitating events like strategic offsites, whiteboard jam sessions, employee resource group mixers, and more.

People leaders were also invited to attend our Roblox in Leadership event, where they heard from a panel of our executive team on anecdotes and learnings from their own experiences as managers. “It was helpful to hear perspectives from other leaders about what they’ve learned from their people management experiences. The strategies that worked, some of the things that didn’t, and how I can apply those learnings in my day-to-day,” shared Kim Centeno, Head of Product Marketing at Roblox.

Roblox Week culminated in a sendoff gathering featuring dozens of innovation booths, where teams across the company created presentations to provide a peek into their day-to-day work. Employees had the chance to connect with teams they might not work with on a regular basis, bridging collaboration gaps and providing the entire organization with a broader understanding of our business.

“[Roblox Week] was a great experience, giving me a chance to meet and connect with so many folks around the company. The innovation demos and booths were also a wonderful way for a new employee like me to see the innovative things happening across the business in other groups,” shared Reza Nouri, a Technical Director who joined earlier this year.

Barbara Messing, Chief Marketing and People Experience Officer, summarized the three-day experience: “Roblox Week is about employees coming together, building on ideas together, learning from one another, and developing new possibilities that take our company forward.”

Driving Quality, Performance, and Bug Fixes

Our top priority is to deliver a stable platform that constantly improves quality and performance. Since our last update on April 26th, we have closed or responded to 899 bugs and counting — one of our key focus areas.

We’re working on a next-generation Studio and rolled out a beta designed to be extendable and customizable for your new use cases. We launched the ability to set your maximum framerate , and have been hard at work optimizing and improving framerate and jitter on all client platforms. We’re also shipping quality-of-life improvements like Path2D , roll-off curve editing for the Audio API , and shipping grass length into production .

Upcoming roadmap

We’ve updated the Creator Roadmap with several new capabilities designed to help you be more productive. One notable addition is Engine Open Cloud API for Running Tasks, which allows you to run automated tests. Why did you launch something that wasn’t on the roadmap?

The Creator Roadmap is not a comprehensive list of everything Roblox is doing (it’s hard to summarize what 2000+ people are working on!). Some examples of reasons why products may not show up on the roadmap are:

• User-facing products that require no action from creators
• Products that require us to coordinate or integrate with third parties, for example, Meta Quest and 17+ experiences; This can result in uncertainty in our ship dates or we may not be able to communicate in advance until the other party is ready
• Products we’re holding to announce at RDC
• Products we aren’t sure are going to be impactful or have enough funding to hit their dates

Why did a feature slip past its target date?

• We do our best to forecast realistically, but sometimes, features take longer to ship than anticipated, or other features take precedence. As some of you may know, software scheduling estimation is an imprecise art.

I didn’t see anything in reference to Dynamic Clouds, are you able shine light on what we should expect for Dynamic Clouds future? It was promised 3 phases but never even managed to get to the 2nd phase to where you can go above the clouds?

Great! It’s a real pain to add a lot of items to viewports currently.

I’m still waiting on Viewport particle rendering… I believe this is a feature which has been requested countless times. This would save me a significant amount of time and effort when creating things such as shop UIs.

Roblox you know I love you but this is cringe. I really do not want to rely upon Open Cloud to run tests. Please, please just give us a way to run them locally.

One thing I might have missed is the ability for players to adjust the placement of accessories / UGC items. It’s a big one that will help “fix” a lot of item fits to work together.

Two major things, are there any plans to improve terrain optimization? On a large scale it is unusable. The other, any plans to change from the low floating point precision used right now for map sizes?

I was in the closed beta for file syncing so I’ve actually seen that feature before. It hasn’t really changed since I saw it months ago though, so I’m eager for some updates on it!

Awesome changes! Especially the UGC stuff because that’s my domain. One question I have however,

• Can we have the option to rename bundles
• Can we have the option to archive bundles & 2D/Classic clothing?
• How is this going to work with limited items?
• When are we getting limited bundles & 2D/Classic clothing?

Most of the new roadmap items in this post aren’t added in the Roblox Creator roadmap site, only a few items got added. Also some of the items aren’t updated too.

God full avatars are exciting. Imagine bundles that can contain a full avatar INCLUDING clothes to put on it. That’d be sick.

Love seeing info like this! Excited for deeper marketplace analytics! Also sounds like we will be getting more ways to communicate with collaborators in studio, that’s ALWAYS helpful!
