Traditional Publishing

Your thesis will only be made available by ProQuest through their ProQuest Dissertations and Theses subscription database and for sale through their Dissertations Express service. Authors are entitled to royalties for these sales as set out on the full Traditional Publishing Agreement .
- The thesis will not be freely available in PQDT Open.

- The thesis will be freely available in PQDT Open.

- The thesis will be available for purchase through ProQuest.
- The thesis will appear in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, a subscription database, and in PQDT Open
- A record of the thesis (may include citation, abstract, preview, etc.) will appear in other ProQuest resources, in library catalogs and in indexes such as ABI, Art Bibliographies Modern. Ebsco and others.
Comparison of the two options
As part of the ProQuest thesis submission process you will have the option to pay for ProQuest to register your thesis for US Copyright on your behalf and deposit the necessary copies for you with the Copyright Office. The cost is $55. Registration offers certain legal benefits if someone infringes on your copyright and you wish to bring suit. More information is available in the "Optional Copyright Registration" section of this page: http://www.proquest.com/products-services/dissertations/submitting-dissertation-proquest.html
- How do I get copyright for my thesis/dissertation? As the author of a thesis or dissertation, you own the copyright to your work. Under U.S. Copyright law, a creator of an "original work" created in a "fixed tangible medium" is immediately and automatically the copyright owner of the work, and your work is protected.
- Do I need to register my work with the U.S. Copyright Office? As stated above, your thesis or dissertation is automatically protected under copyright. However, there are some important practical and legal benefits to registering your copyright, particularly the right to collect " statutory damages " in a successful infringement lawsuit. Essentially, if at some point you might want to take legal action in order to protect your work, you should register it with the U.S. Copyright Office .
- How do I register my work? In the course of this submission, you can request that ProQuest/UMI file for copyright with the U.S. Copyright on your behalf. ProQuest charges a $55 fee for this service. You can also do the filing yourself directly through U.S. Copyright Office at copyright.gov . You will be charged a $35 registration fee.

Ordering Dissertations & Theses
Depending on the dissertation or thesis desired, UTD-affiliated users should first check the appropriate dissertations and theses database for availability. If a full-text digital copy of the dissertation or thesis is not available, the user will have several options to obtain the document:
- Sometimes, dissertations and theses of outside universities are available to borrow via Interlibrary Loan (ILL) . Fill out the form and we will let you know if the document in question is available.
- In the case of UTD-only dissertations and theses, a paper or microfilm copy may be your only option. Search the catalog to find out the document's availability and call number. The library has equipment for viewing, scanning, and e-mailing or printing paper and microfilm documents.
- In some cases, it does not hurt to contact the author of the dissertation or thesis. You will likely have to conduct a web search for the author's contact information. If the author in question has a digital copy, it is not uncommon for him/her to share the document.
- Non-UTD-affiliated users may purchase a copy of the dissertation or thesis through ProQuest's Dissertations Express service. If a UTD-only dissertation or thesis is available only in paper or microform format, the user must come to the library to view and digitally scan or copy the document. The Eugene McDermott Library cannot scan/digitize and transmit its paper- or microform-only theses and dissertations to remote users.

Answer & Links
There are two main routes for purchasing a printed copy of your thesis or dissertation. First, WVU has an institutional partnership with Proquest. After your thesis or dissertation is published in the WVU Research Repository, Proquest will add a copy to the Proquest Theses and Dissertations database. When your thesis or dissertation appears in the Proquest database (usually several months after your original submission), you can purchase a physical copy of it .
The second option is to go through a third party vendor. WVU has no affiliation with any of the vendors in this list. All of these vendors can accept a PDF copy of your dissertation and provide you with a range of printing and binding options.

UT Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Permanent URI for this collection https://hdl.handle.net/2152/11
This collection contains University of Texas at Austin electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). The collection includes ETDs primarily from 2001 to the present. Some pre-2001 theses and dissertations have been digitized and added to this collection, but those are uncommon. The library catalog is the most comprehensive list of UT Austin theses and dissertations.
Since 2010, the Office of Graduate Studies at UT Austin has required all theses and dissertations to be made publicly available in Texas ScholarWorks; however, authors are able to request an embargo of up to seven years. Embargoed ETDs will not show up in this collection. Most of the ETDs in this collection are freely accessible to all users, but some pre-2010 works require a current UT EID at point of use. Please see the FAQs for more information. If you have a question about the availability of a specific ETD, please contact [email protected].
Some items in this collection may contain offensive images or text. The University of Texas Libraries is committed to maintaining an accurate and authentic scholarly and historic record. An authentic record is essential for understanding our past and informing the present. In order to preserve the authenticity of the historical record we will not honor requests to redact content, correct errors, or otherwise remove content, except in cases where there are legal concerns (e.g. potential copyright infringement, inclusion of HIPAA/FERPA protected information or Social Security Numbers) or evidence of a clear and imminent threat to personal safety or well-being.
This policy is in keeping with the American Library Association code of ethics to resist efforts to censor library resources, and the Society of American Archivists code of ethics that states "archivists may not willfully alter, manipulate, or destroy data or records to conceal facts or distort evidence."
