Your files will be read-only, but you can download or delete files to get back under your storage limit . If you don't remove enough files within 30 days, your account will be frozen once more and you won't be able to unfreeze it again.

OneDrive for Business fully encrypts data in transit and at rest . When data is in transit, OneDrive for Business uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption. This prevents hackers from intercepting and reading data being transmitted between your systems and Microsoft data centers.

In short, Google Drive is better for independent users who store a normal amount of stuff . OneDrive makes more sense for businesses and teams that are doing heavy-duty storage or large-scale syncing. Realistically, though, most users will fall somewhere in between the two, where either platform would meet their needs.

Exclusive: Microsoft quietly ends unlimited cloud storage option on OneDrive

Microsoft no longer offers OneDrive for Busines (Plan 2), with new users now capped to 1TB by default

OneDrive logo on a smartphone in front of stationary

Microsoft has killed unlimited storage from its OneDrive business plans, with organisations now limited to just 1TB per user on default configurations.

OneDrive for Business (Plan 2) was popular with large organizations that needed a limitless storage capacity to, for example, manage a countless and growing number of media files, like videos or artistic assets. One of the best unlimited storage deals out there, it was available for approximately $10 per user, per month, excluding tax.

But Microsoft appaears to have eliminated this option entirely for new customers at some point between 28 July and 14 July , according to Archive.org, with new users instead only limited to OneDrive for Business (Plan 1). This caps each user to 1TB by default, but this can rise to 5TB depending on the number of users on the plan. Nevertheless, it’s a far cry from the unlimited storage option that potential customers could once opt for.

OneDrive limits

“In response to customer demand, Microsoft has streamlined the purchasing process for customers who use OneDrive for Business standalone plans,” a spokesperson told TechRadar Pro. “Customers currently on these plans will still be able to add seats and renew their license.”

Customers can now only purchase OneDrive plan for Business (Plan 1) for $5 per user, per month, if they want to use OneDrive without the rest of the Microsoft 365 suite. Otherwise, the Microsoft 365 Business Basic package costs $6 per user per month, with Microsoft 365 Business Standard costing $12.50 per user per month. All packages, however, limit OneDrive storage to a default of 1TB max.

OneDrive for business (plan 2) offered customers unlimited storage, but only if they qualified. Organizations, first of all, needed five or more users with a OneDrive for business (plan 2) subscription, with Microsoft providing an initial limit of 1TB per user. Admins, though, could raise this to 5TB per user.

Customers could then contact Microsoft support directly to request additional storage, up to 25TB per user, should they need it. Beyond that, storage would be provisioned as 25TB SharePoint team sites to individual users.

While OneDrive no longer offers unlimited storage, there are plenty of other options out there, including offers from Box, Carbonite, OpenDrive, and others Check out the best unlimited cloud storage dealS for more details.

Skype for Business Online service description

  • 12 contributors

Microsoft Teams is now the primary client for messaging, meetings, and calling in Office 365. Starting October 1, 2018, new customers with 500 seats or less will be onboarded to Microsoft Teams and will not have access to Skype for Business Online. As of September 1, 2019, this applies to all new customers. Tenants already using Skype for Business Online can continue doing so (including provisioning new users) until they complete their transition to Microsoft Teams.

Skype for Business Online Plan 2 retired from sale on July 1, 2019. This means that you will no longer be able to acquire Skype for Business Online Plan 2 for instant messaging, presence, meetings, and peer-to-peer voice and video. These features will continue to be supported in all plans that include Teams, including Office 365 suites. When your plan expires at the end of your current term, in order to have continued access to these features, you'll have to switch to a different plan. We recommend that you evaluate the Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Premium, or any other Office suites for users that currently have Skype for Business Online Plan 2 assigned.

Do you want to know what licenses you need to buy to get certain Skype for Business features? See the Skype for Business add-on licensing .

An Exchange Online ( plan ) plan can't be used for voice mail. 4 An Office 365 F3 user may participate in a sharing session if invited by a Skype for Business Online Plan 2 or enterprise plan user. 5 Audio Conferencing can be added to Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Office 365 E1, and Office 365 E3 subscription plans as an add-on. 6 Communication Credits can be added to Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription plan as an add-on to support Audio Conferencing only. 7 Emergency Calling isn't available on Mac and mobile clients. 8 Customer Key lets you control your organization's encryption keys and then configure Microsoft to use them to encrypt your data at rest in Microsoft data centers. Data at rest includes data from Exchange Online and Skype for Business that is stored in mailboxes and files that are stored in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. Customer Key helps you meet compliance obligations because you control the encryption keys that Microsoft uses to decrypt data. For more information, see Service encryption with Customer Key .

Feature availability across Skype for Business Online standalone plans

The following table lists Skype for Business Online feature availability across standalone plans. For a description of these features, go to Skype for Business Online features .

Skype for Business Online Standalone Plan 2 licensed users will get the Skype for Business Basic client, not the full Skype for Business client. If you want users to have the Skype for Business client, you will need to upgrade them to a license that includes it, such as an Enterprise-based license. To deploy the Skype for Business client to your users, see Deploy the Skype for Business client in Microsoft 365 or Office 365 .

1 The Skype for Business (Lync) client is supported for use with these subscription options, but it is not included. Lync 2013 Basic is available for all customers. The Lync Basic desktop client is a locally installed application that provides presence, instant messaging and conferencing features for plans that include Skype for Business Online. Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, and Office 365 E3 include the full Skype for Business (Lync) application, which include additional features including advanced telephony support, archiving & compliance features. A Skype for Business Online license must be assigned for each user. For more information on Lync Basic features, see Desktop client comparison tables for Lync Server 2013 . 2 A Skype for Business Online Plan 1 user may participate in a sharing session if the user is invited by a Skype for Business Online Plan 2 user. 3 Archiving for Skype for Business Online depends on the Exchange In-Place Hold feature, which is not included in this plan. 4 Tenants with a standalone Skype for Business Online plan can access reporting features if the tenant also has at least one active Exchange license, such as Exchange Online Plan 1 or Exchange Online Plan 2. 5 Not supported if Exchange Online was purchased as part of a kiosk plan.

Xbox’s Promise to Bring More Games to More Players Around the World

  • Jeff Rubenstein, Xbox Wire

microsoft business plan 2

Today, on a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast, we shared an update on plans to continue to bring more games to more people around the world, with the exciting news that the first Activision Blizzard game on Xbox Game Pass will be Diablo IV , beginning March 28.

Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty also shared the vision on game exclusivity, the future of Xbox hardware, and the overall Xbox promise. There’s a lot to talk about, so we encourage you to watch the full episode here:

With the combined creativity across Team Xbox, players can expect an incredible 2024 with the likes of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II , Indiana Jones and the Great Circle , Avowed , Ara: History Untold , Towerborne and more coming your way, alongside continued updates for our blockbuster franchises Call of Duty , Minecraft , Forza , The Elder Scrolls Online and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

There will be even more to play as we begin to fulfill our commitment to offer Activision and Blizzard games with Game Pass, both new releases and classic games from its legendary catalog. We’re excited to bring more of the biggest games to our 34M XGP subscribers. Diablo IV will be playable on Xbox and PC for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers on March 28! This is only the start of Xbox players being able to enjoy Activision and Blizzard games on Game Pass – we look forward to sharing more soon.

Our combined studio teams already ship some of the biggest franchises and critically-acclaimed adventures across multiple platforms: Minecraft , Call of Duty , Overwatch , Diablo , The Elder Scrolls Online , and more have built communities across consoles, PC, and mobile. Likewise, Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda have brought dozens of games to Steam alongside Xbox consoles on launch day; the teams at Xbox have extensive experience supporting multiple platforms, while continuing to invest heavily in our studios, our consoles and services.

Indeed, our games are reaching more players than ever; across Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, King, and Xbox Game Studios, we reach hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile.

To ensure long-term success for both Xbox and the industry as a whole, we must continue to evolve. Today we announced that we will expand the communities we reach: we are currently in the process of bringing four Xbox games to other platforms. These are titles which have been available to Xbox players for at least a year, including hidden gems that deserve to be experienced more widely, and live service games whose communities will benefit from welcoming even more players. We will share more details on these titles soon.

By bringing these games to more players, we not only expand the reach and impact of those titles, but this will allow us to invest in either future versions of these games, or elsewhere in our first-party portfolio. There is no fundamental change to our approach on exclusivity.

Likewise, our commitment to game preservation is unwavering. Xbox players should have confidence in building your digital library in the Xbox ecosystem.  We will continue to reward that with the most robust, player-friendly experiences, including backwards compatibility, cross-play, cross-save progression, convenient cloud gaming, and more. Xbox consoles will continue to provide a flagship experience for players; it’s where you get the best value and convenience, it’s where Game Pass provides unprecedented access to an ever-evolving library of games. To be clear: Game Pass will continue to be only available on Xbox platforms.

This is what it means to be part of Xbox:

  • The biggest games in the world will be on Xbox.
  • Our games will come to Game Pass day one .
  • A robust and innovative multi-year hardware roadmap
  • Compatibility with your library is a priority , inclusive of cross-play, cross-save, and robust cloud features.
  • Xbox will continue to help game creators find the biggest audience possible.

Whether you’ve been with us since 2001, recently joined Game Pass to enjoy games like Starfield or Palworld , or are looking forward to the next season of Call of Duty , the creative teams at Xbox are stronger together – no matter where you play. Xbox will be around for decades to come – we hope you’ll join us on this journey.

Editor’s Note (February 16) : We’ve clarified the Game Pass subscriber plans where Diablo IV will be playable starting on March 28, 2024.

Does Microsoft 365 Business Standard Package allow upgrading of email to 100GB storage?

My company is using only Exchange Online Plan 1 & 2.

We're in the process of moving some users to Microsoft 365 Business Standard.

As understand from the official information, the package only offers email up to 50GB.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-sg/microsoft-365/exchange/compare-microsoft-exchange-online-plans

Sadly, some of those users assigned for the upgrade are currently using Exchange Online Plan 2 (w/ 100GB email).

Is there a way to increase the users' mailbox size without having to purchase additional Exchange Online Plan 2 license?

You can upgrade to Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3/E5 plan or buy add-on Exchange Online Archiving for Exchange Online as a workaround.

For the Exchange Online Archiving, is this the correct page?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-sg/microsoft-365/exchange/microsoft-exchange-online-archiving-email

It does not provide the available storage space for the plan.

Generally, each Exchange Online Archiving subscriber initially receives 100 GB of storage in the archive mailbox. The archiving feature (called  auto-expanding archiving ) provides more storage space in archive mailboxes, up to a maximum of 1.5 TB. 3 Free Alternatives To Microsoft Excel

' src=

Richard Wilson

3 min. read

Updated February 21, 2024

Microsoft Excel is one of the most commonly used applications in the world of computing, but as you might already know, it isn’t free. Excel is part of the Microsoft Office “suite” of programs which, while it isn’t  that  expensive to purchase, is still an unnecessary cost for many of today’s fledgling businesses.

When you boil it down, Microsoft Excel is simply a spreadsheet program, for which there are many alternatives. Even better, many of those alternatives are free!

But just how good are these free alternatives to Excel? And which ones are the best? Here’s a roundup of what we consider to be the three absolute best free alternatives to Microsoft Excel.

1. Google Docs Spreadsheet

Chances are you already use a lot of Google products on a daily basis (e.g., Gmail, Google+, etc.) and therefore, you likely already have a Google account. If this is the case, you’ll have access to the Google Docs Spreadsheet application without any extra effort at all.

Essentially, Google Docs Spreadsheet is Google’s own version of an Excel-like spreadsheet application; the only differences are that it’s available for free, without having to download anything to your desktop.

Google Docs Spreadsheet looks pretty similar to Excel but as you’ll notice, it actually operates inside your web browser. It has much of the same functionality as Excel including a range of charts and the ability to create formulas, so it’s a pretty good alternative if you’re looking to save that bit of extra money on previous Microsoft Excel expenses.

What’s more, you can actually use Google Docs anywhere you are, so long as you have an internet connection. This makes working remotely on your spreadsheets easier than ever, as you can be sure that your files are backed up online automatically too.

2. OpenOffice

OpenOffice is a solution that is being utilized by more and more businesses these days. It’s yet another extremely feature-rich and completely free alternative to Microsoft Excel.

Unlike Google Docs Spreadsheet, OpenOffice is a downloadable program and operates locally on your personal computer (much like Excel). It works on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux, so no matter which operating system you’re using, OpenOffice is pretty much guaranteed to work perfectly.

In terms of functionality, OpenOffice is very similar to Microsoft Excel. It looks very similar and has charts, macros, and most of the other features you might be familiar with if you’ve previously used Microsoft Excel.

One of the benefits of OpenOffice over Google Docs Spreadsheet is that once downloaded, you won’t need access to the internet in order to use the program. It should also be noted that OpenOffice allows you to open, edit, and create Excel worksheets, so it’s perfectly easy to make the switch from Excel to OpenOffice without much hassle.

3. Zoho Sheet

Lastly, we have Zoho Sheet . This is another cloud-based application (like Google Docs Spreadsheet and the Excel Web Application), so keep in mind that you’ll need an internet connection in order to use it.

Zoho offers a lot of cloud-based web apps, many of which aren’t free. But luckily for us, Zoho Sheet is. All you need to do is create a free account with Zoho and then sign in. At this stage, simply head to “Productivity” on the menu and select the “Sheet” app from the list.

Zoho Sheet looks very similar to Microsoft Excel and it allows you to work with local files on your computer or Google Docs files if you prefer. And of course, you can also create files from scratch in the Zoho Sheet app.

For most small business owners, this is yet another great alternative as it offers most of the functionality that you’ll be familiar with from Excel.

What’s your biggest business challenge right now?

A few years ago, there were virtually no good alternatives to Microsoft Excel. But these days, things are entirely different. All of the alternatives mentioned in this list offer just about all the functionality that SME’s (subject matter experts) are likely to need from their spreadsheet application.

Sure, they might not offer absolutely everything that Excel offers, but they come pretty darn close. And to be honest, the difference isn’t worth paying for unless you use Excel’s more in-depth functions on a regular basis.

Sam Altman wants Washington's backing for his $7 trillion AI chip venture

  • Sam Altman wants US government approval for his trillion-dollar AI chip venture, Bloomberg reported.
  • Altman has been attempting to raise up to $7 trillion to boost his GPU-chip supply.
  • Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, has expressed skepticism about the hefty sum.

Insider Today

Sam Altman is trying to get Washington's backing for his trillion-dollar AI chip venture.

The OpenAI CEO is working to secure US government approval for the project as it risks raising national security and antitrust concerns, Bloomberg reported .

Altman has reportedly been attempting to raise up to $7 trillion to boost his GPU-chip supply. The Wall Street Journal reported that the tech CEO had held talks with investors including in the United Arab Emirates.

Altman told potential investors that he can't move forward without Washington's approval, Bloomberg reported.

Altman's proposals are aimed at helping to solve the  global chip shortage , according to the reports. He's said to be presenting his pitch as a partnership with OpenAI, chip makers, and investors who can finance GPU chip plants, the report says.

Representatives for OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Jensen Huang , the CEO of leading chipmaker Nvidia, hasn't been overly positive about Altman's plan.

He told the United Arab Emirates' AI minister, Omar Al Olama, that developing AI wouldn't cost as much as the amount Altman was seeking to raise.

Huang said: "There's about a trillion dollars' worth of installed base of data centers. Over the course of the next four or five years, we'll have $2 trillion worth of data centers that will be powering software around the world."

He also took an indirect shot at Altman, joking that $7 trillion could buy "apparently all the GPUs."

Google Joins Effort to Help Spot Content Made With A.I.

The tech company’s plan is similar to one announced two days earlier by Meta, another Silicon Valley giant.

A large and colorful outdoor stage with a sign saying “Bold and responsible AI.”

By Tiffany Hsu

Reporting from San Francisco

Google, whose work in artificial intelligence helped make A.I.-generated content far easier to create and spread, now wants to ensure that such content is traceable as well.

The tech giant said on Thursday that it was joining an effort to develop credentials for digital content, a sort of “nutrition label” that identifies when and how a photograph, a video, an audio clip or another file was produced or altered — including with A.I. The company will collaborate with companies like Adobe, the BBC, Microsoft and Sony to fine-tune the technical standards.

The announcement follows a similar promise announced on Tuesday by Meta , which like Google has enabled the easy creation and distribution of artificially generated content. Meta said it would promote standardized labels that identified such material.

Google, which spent years pouring money into its artificial intelligence initiatives, said it would explore how to incorporate the digital certification into its own products and services, though it did not specify its timing or scope. Its Bard chatbot is connected to some of the company’s most popular consumer services , such as Gmail and Docs. On YouTube, which Google owns and which will be included in the digital credential effort, users can quickly find videos featuring realistic digital avatars pontificating on current events in voices powered by text-to-speech services.

Recognizing where online content originates and how it changes is a high priority for lawmakers and tech watchdogs in 2024, when billions of people will vote in major elections around the world. After years of disinformation and polarization, realistic images and audio produced by artificial intelligence and unreliable A.I. detection tools caused people to further doubt the authenticity of things they saw and heard on the internet.

Configuring digital files to include a verified record of their history could make the digital ecosystem more trustworthy, according to those who back a universal certification standard. Google is joining the steering committee for one such group, the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, or C2PA. The C2PA standards have been supported by news organizations such as The New York Times as well as by camera manufacturers, banks and advertising agencies.

Laurie Richardson, Google’s vice president of trust and safety, said in a statement that the company hoped its work would “provide important context to people, helping them make more informed decisions.” She noted Google’s other endeavors to provide users with more information about the online content they encountered, including labeling A.I. material on YouTube and offering details about images in Search.

Efforts to attach credentials to metadata — the underlying information embedded in digital files — are not flawless.

OpenAI said this week that its A.I. image-generation tools would soon add watermarks to images according to the C2PA standards. Beginning on Monday, the company said, images generated by its online chatbot, ChatGPT, and the stand-alone image-generation technology, DALL-E, will include both a visual watermark and hidden metadata designed to identify them as created by artificial intelligence. The move, however, “is not a silver bullet to address issues of provenance,” OpenAI said, adding that the tags “can easily be removed either accidentally or intentionally.”

(The New York Times Company is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, accusing the tech companies of using Times articles to train A.I. systems.)

There is “a shared sense of urgency” to shore up trust in digital content, according to a blog post last month from Andy Parsons, the senior director of the Content Authenticity Initiative at Adobe. The company released artificial intelligence tools last year, including its A.I. art-generation software Adobe Firefly and a Photoshop tool known as generative fill , which uses A.I. to expand a photo beyond its borders.

“The stakes have never been higher,” Mr. Parsons wrote.

Google has temporarily suspended the ability of its Gemini chatbot  to generate images of people, after the A.I. generated images of people of color in German military uniforms from World War II  — an obvious historical inaccuracy.

Nvidia, the Silicon Valley chip maker, released quarterly financial results that reinforced how the company has become one of the biggest winners of the A.I. boom .

OpenAI announced that it was releasing a new version of ChatGPT that would remember all prior conversations with users  so it could use that information in future chats. The start-up also unveiled technology that creates videos that look like they were lifted from a Hollywood movie .
