1. Write the expanded form of $563408$.
Ans: This number has $8$ at one’s place, $0$ at tens place, $4$ at hundreds place, $3$ at thousands place, $6$ at ten thousand places and $5$ at a lakh place.
$5,63,408=5\times 100000+6\times 10000+3\times 1000+4\times 100+0\times 10+8\times 1$
$5,63,408=500000+60000+3000+400+0+8$
2. Find the difference of place values of two’s, $6$’s in $65810624$.
Ans: In $65810624$, place values of $6$ are $60000000$ and $600$ .
First value is $60000000$ and second value is $600$.
Difference $=60000000-600$
$=5,99,99,400$
3. Write the greatest and smallest $4$-digit number using $5,6,0,9$.
Ans: from the given $4$digits $5,6,0,9$
Greatest $4$-digit number is $9,650$.
Smallest $4$-digit number is $5,069$.
4. What comes after and before $10000000$?
Ans: Add one to $10,000,000$ then we can find the after count.
$1,00,00,001$ comes after $1,00,00,000$
Subtract one from $10,000,000$ then we can find the before count.
$99,99,999$ comes before $1,00,00,000$
5. Which is lesser: $85740264$ or $85610784$.
Ans: Here both numbers have the same number of digits. Further, the digits at the first two places are the same in both. Then consider moving to the next digit, that is to the digit at the lakhs place. The digit at the lakhs place is lesser in $85\underline{6}10784$ than in $85\underline{7}40264$. Therefore, $85610784$ is less than $85740264$.
Short Answer Questions (3 Marks)
1. How many $6$ digit numbers are there in all?
Ans: Total number of six-digit numbers can be calculated by subtracting smallest six-digit number from the largest six-digit number and then by adding 1 to the obtained difference.
The largest $6$ digit number is $999999$
The smallest $6$ digit number is $100000$
$\therefore $Number of all $6$ digit numbers $=\left( 999999100000 \right)+1$
2. Round off $14850$ to nearest $10$’s, $100$’s, $1000$’s place.
Ans: Round off $14850$ to nearest $10$’s, $100$’s, $1000$’s place can be done like this,
To nearest 10’s place: $14850=14,850$
To nearest 100’s place : $14850=14,900$
To nearest 1000’s place : $14850=15,000$
3. Estimate the sum $\left( 304+243 \right)$ to the nearest hundred.
Ans: Here $304$ is greater than $243$. Round off to hundreds and then find the sum.
Estimation nearest $100$’s place:
$3\underline{0}4=400$
$2\underline{4}3=200$
Estimated Sum of $\left( 304+243 \right)$ to the nearest hundred.
$\Rightarrow 300+200=500$
4. Estimate the difference of $\left( 973-368 \right)$to the nearest hundreds place.
Ans: Here $973$ is greater than $368$. Round off to hundreds and then find the difference.
Estimation nearest $100$’s place for $9\underline{7}3=1000$
Estimation nearest $100$’s place for $3\underline{6}8=400$
Estimated Difference of $\left( 973-368 \right)$ to the nearest hundreds place.
$\Rightarrow 1000-400=600$
5. Estimate product of $\left( 24\times 85 \right)$.
Ans: Here $85$ is greater than $24$. Round off them to $10$’s place then find the product.
Estimation of $24$: $10$’s place considered $=20$.
Estimation of $85$ : $10$’s place considered $=90$.
Estimated product of $\left( 24\times 85 \right)$ to the nearest $10$’s place
$\Rightarrow 20\times 90=1800$
6. Estimate quotient of $\left( 725\times 25 \right)$
Ans: Here $725$ is greater than $25$. Round off $725$ to $100$’s and $25$ to $10$’s place then find the quotient.
Estimation considering $100$’s place for $725=700$ Estimation considering $10$’s place for $25=30$

1. Write the smallest and greatest $6$ digit numbers formed by using digits $1,0,5,7$ with repetition.
Ans: consider the given $4$ digits $1,0,5,7$ and with repetition allowed form the greatest and smallest $6$ digit numbers. For the $6$ digit, the greatest number $7$ is the first digit, whereas for the smallest number $1$ will be the first digit.
Greatest $6$ digit number with repetition $=777,510$
Smallest $6$ digit number with repetition $=100,057$
2. Arrange in Descending order $4123676,71204381,176489,3240973$
Ans: From the given numbers it’s clear that each number differs in their digit count so first count the digits.
$4123673=7$ digits
$71204381=8$ digits
$176489=6$ digits
$3240973=7$ digits
Now considering this digit counts, write the given numbers in ascending order. From the greatest number to the smallest number.
Descending order: $71204381,4123676,3240973,176489$.
3. The difference between the two numbers is $3856749$. If the smaller number is $2565638$. Find the greater number.
Ans: we know that difference is obtained by subtracting subtrahend from minuend.
Minuend $-$ Subtrahend $=$ Difference
In the problem it is given that, the difference between two numbers is $3856749$ and the smaller number is $2565638$ That means Subtrahend.
Hence, minuend $=$ Difference $+$ Subtrahend
$\Rightarrow 38,56,749+25,65,638=64,22,387$

Ans: in the problem it is given that,
Mass of a bag $=2kg 890g$.
So, to find a mass of $14$ such bags multiply $14$ with one bag weight .
$\therefore $ Mass of 14 bags $=\left( 2kg\text{ }890g \right)\times 14$
$=40kg\text{ }460g$
5. A thread of length $20m$ has been divided into $5$ pieces. What is the length of each piece?
Ans: in the problem it is given that, A thread of length $20m$ has been divided into $5$ pieces.
Total length of the thread $=20m$
Number of thread pieces $=5$
Hence length of each thread piece $\dfrac{20}{5}=4m$
6. A man had Rs. $2,08,78,560$ amounts in his bank. He withdrew Rs. $48,36,980$ in the month of January, Rs. $3,95,648$ in the month of February and Rs. $45,000$ in the month of march. What is the amount remaining in his bank account by the end of march?
Ans: In the problem it is given that,
Total amount in bank = Rs. $2,08,78,560$ Amount withdrawn in January = Rs. $48,36,980$ Amount withdrawn in February = Rs. $3,95,648$ Amount withdrawn in March = Rs. $45,000$
Amount remaining in bank account by end of march
$=2,08,78,560-48,36,980-3,95,648-45000$

Now we have 22, 48 and 27. We now arrange them by choosing the smallest and the biggest, and that’s how you write the ascending order for the given numbers. The final number line will be 5,22,27,48, and 99.
Descending Order
The descending order is the total opposite of the ascending order. In this, you need to put the highest number in the first place and the smallest number at the end. The descending order means first comes the biggest, and from there, the numbers will only become small, and the last digit will be the smallest from the whole set of numbers.
For example, there are 5 numbers present in the box which are 22, 48, 99, 5 and 27. So if a student needs to arrange them, he needs to put the highest number in front and the smallest number at the back or end. So now the number line will look like this. 99, 22, 48, 27 and 5. Just like that, we use the descending order again, and this time we get 99, 48, 27, 22 and 5. This is the descending order of the example.
Place Value
