Teacher Speech

The role of a teacher in the life of a student is significant and by and large the most important. The excellence of a teacher decides the academic and other mile stones achieved by his/her students. We all are like a bundle of infinite potential, but, to unlock that potential and to realize our own abilities, we, up to large extent, depend on our teacher. A teacher recognizes our individual talents and treats us accordingly so that to bring out the best in us.

She/he is the person who makes us realize our own blessings and guides us until we have full explored them. A teacher, like our parents, always stays by our side, either in joy or in sorrow. By encouraging the youth and making them educated, a teacher does excellent service to the society and to the nation.

Short Speech on Teacher – 1

Good Morning everyone! As we all know that today is Teachers Day, so I am being asked by my classmates to give a speech on “teacher”.

A teacher, my dear friends, going by the meaning, is someone who teaches. But, this is only the most basic definition of a teacher. If I have started stating the ways in which a teacher contributes to the society, I will most probably run short of words.

A teacher is the craftsman who helps building the foundation of a nation by teaching its wards. Without a teacher there would be no students, but only boisterous citizens with no clue on where they are headed.

Happy Teachers Day to all and don’t forget to cheer your beloved teachers today by pampering them with praises and gifts.

Short Speech on Teacher – 2

Very well Good Morning to all of you present here today, especially the teachers. As we all know that today is Teachers Day and I am requested by some of the friends of mine to give a speech on teachers.

From kindergarten to graduation, every step that we took was accompanied by a teacher whose sole interest was in our own growth and welfare. I think teaching is one of those rare professions, which someone chooses out of passion, rather than necessity.

There are so many teachers, a few of them I personally know, who could have easily chosen a lucrative profession; nevertheless, they chose to go with their inner voice. That is, they chose to enlighten the minds and transform lives. Could there be a social work more elegant than transforming noisy, stubborn and rambunctious kids into disciplined, concerned and progressive adults.

While most of us strive for materialistic accomplishments – decent package, house, car etc; a teacher wishes for something more sensible, that is, to transform his/her students into productive and sensible citizens.

There is nothing by which the society or the nation could ever repay the services of a teacher. S/he is the very foundation of a society.

Having said that, I would like to request you all to celebrate the day with your beloved, respected teachers, with as much fun and joy as you can. It is a day when you make them happy and cheer them up for the noble task they have chosen.

Wishing you all Happy Teacher’s Day! Once Again!

Long Speech on Teacher – 3

Respected Principal, Respected teachers and my dear fellow Students,

It feels great to welcome you all to this auspicious occasion; since we have gathered here to celebrate one of the most admirable occasions i.e. Teacher’s Day, it’s an opportunity for me to share few words about teachers, their role in schools and colleges and their influence on the students.

Teachers are the backbone of our society because they majorly contribute in shaping the future of a nation, i.e. students and guide them in becoming an ideal citizen of the country. Teacher’s job is full of responsibility and challenges because not every student is same and thus the teacher has to be dynamic and adopt different teaching patterns for different students. Teaching is a social practice and more than knowledge, a teacher must be a good human being who can very well shoulder the responsibility of his/her job and understand the sensitivity of the situation where students from different backgrounds have come together for learning and thus apply skills and knowledge to the best of his/her capacity while teaching.

Some of the qualities which every teacher must possess in order to become most acceptable are:

  • Enthusiasm – It is a known fact that teachers who show enthusiasm while teaching create a positive atmosphere and learning environment which help students in gaining knowledge fast and with fun. These teachers don’t follow the uniform pattern instead, they innovate teaching methods to keep the students engaged and enthusiastic.

The most important role a teacher plays is in motivating the students; some of the students find their teacher to be a role model and try to imitate them. Thus it is very important that the teacher leaves a positive impression on each student.

  • Interaction with learners – It is very important for the teacher to indulge into transparent and open discussion with the students in order to understand the capability of the learner. Some students are shy, while other may be afraid of failure. A teacher is highly trusted to build up the student emotionally and practically.

Conventionally, teaching is considered equivalent to praying. In olden days, parents used to leave their children in gurukul (a kind of residential school where students live with the teacher for studies). This tradition was greatly supported by the trust and bond between the parents and teachers. Even today, trust is one of the most important factors which motivate parents to get their children admitted in a particular school. A teacher is considered to be the alternate parents; this makes teaching all the more challenging and full of accountability.

In recent days, we get to hear a lot about corporal punishment. Some of the teachers get barbaric and beat students so badly that some of them don’t even survive. This is highly restricted in all over India. Though it is important for the teachers to be strict sometimes but there can be alternate methods to punish the students than harming them physically.

Well, I would like to end this note with a huge thanks to our teachers who are so caring and compassionate. We are highly honoured to be a part of this School.

Long Speech on Teacher – 4

Good evening everybody!

I welcome you all to this grand occasion. In our lifetime each of us has some or other teachers whom we consider as our idol.

Alright, so today I would like to talk to you about the one who lays the foundation of the existence of any school – ‘The Teacher’. Teacher is that one entity who strengthens the educational power of the students. They are the ones who link the students to the school and vice versa.

While I was young, I always used to associate my subject by the name of the teacher who used to teach that and also more the favourite teacher, more the marks in that subject… Yes, it’s a fact. Isn’t it, kids?

It is a proven fact that a teacher’s job is not just a job but it has an impact on the growth and well-being of the entire nation. Teachers play the most essential role in delivering what is desired. They are considered as the backbone of the society because they continuously contribute in building up the student’s characters, shaping their future and also help them to become ideal citizens of the country. A good teacher always inspires the hope, ignites the imagination, and instils the love of learning within us.

It isn’t true that the teacher works only when they have a class to address, before coming to the class they have a long handed homework to be done, yes… believe me, they do have! They need to be prepared for the topic to be taught, they have to get the tests prepared, the exercises ready and all that To-Do list prepared before they actually come on desk to perform their role. It is the responsibility of the teachers to continue doing their hard work and go through a variety of material that enriches their knowledge for the betterment of the society.

Teachers give us the moral support and encourage us to live a quality life in the society. They have the power to let the students understand the aspects of career growth, and future prospects in their desired fields.

Teachers help a student to shape their character and make their future bright. They enable us to stand strong in this world by building us from within, by making us sensible and knowledgeable so that we become capable of dealing with numerous challenges coming our way and helping us succeed.

As a conclusion, I would ask you all to always cherish the bond with your teachers. They are the ones who have educated you and have put in the efforts to bring you up in this society. We owe our respect and gratitude towards our teachers, they have empowered us with education, they have nurtured us with their love and affection just like our parents. Our respect makes them feel contended; they build the new blood to be a worthy soul in this nation.

Teachers have always been special and will continue to do so in all times to come.

Speech on Teacher – 5

Our most respected teachers, dear friends and students,

How may we express our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers? Friend, philosopher and guide all rolled into one. Yes, every teacher of ours has been just that.

Our teachers have facilitated our scholastic abilities and aptitudes. They have helped us cross the thresholds to possess the academic prerequisites to clear exams and qualify at different levels in our academic pursuits. They have been patient with us even as they got us grounded in the fundamentals of every subject. They have taught us with love. And that has often lightened even subjects that we found very tough.

But then our teachers have done much, much more than that. And we have learned from our teachers in so many different ways. Our teachers have guided us when we have faced difficult situations and dilemmas. When we have been low, and down and dejected they have been successful in raising our spirits and putting us right back on track. They have loved us even when we played truant and were mischievous and played pranks. They have offered us support in so many ways that made the process of education enjoyable. They have striven hard to inculcate in us human values and right ethics so that we may have a future guided by goodness and righteousness. They have helped us seek the truth and live by it at all times. They have given their time most generously, and offered advice most willingly. Isn’t it?

And naturally our teachers have been our role models. We have always looked up to our teachers with respect, awe and love. And we have always wondered if we could ever match up to them. Right?

Really speaking, it may never be possible for us to say all that our teachers have done for us and made possible for us so that we may work hard, excel and have a bright and happy future.

As we come together to thank our teachers, we find words are insufficient to do that. Words seem to pale before our teachers’ selfless service and devotion to the cause of educating, enlightening and moulding our minds, hearts and lives in totality. Words can never equal what our teachers have done for us with no expectation whatsoever.

Nevertheless, we have to resort to saying verbally a thank you to our teachers which is, of course, backed by our most sincere gratitude and deep love and appreciation.

Dear teachers, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to you all. You mean so much to us. What you have given us will help us go into the world for building our future.

All the beautiful flowers that could go into making a fragrant and extravagant bouquet would whither after a time, but dear teachers, our love and respect and regard for you for all that you have done to bolster and buttress our strength, and courage shall remain fresh always, in fact, will only grow and grow.

Speech on Teacher – 6

Dear friends, respected teachers and Principal Ma’am,

It is indeed so wonderful to be here on the occasion to mark Teacher’s Day.

As we look back there is a sense of nostalgia, of course, as we reminisce the academic institutions we attended as we went from school to college and then to university and other institutions of higher learning.

But at the root of it all is the great sense of gratitude we feel for our teachers at every level of our study and learning.

What would life have been but for our teachers? They, who taught us the alphabets and then through all the years of our study till we submitted, perhaps, our post-doctoral research work.

Education is so inter-linked with teachers. And when we glorify education as the means of enlightenment, emancipation and empowerment of people, men and women, we must really realize that the possibility becomes a realization through the patience, love, service and devotion of millions of teachers.

Go back in time and the person you most fondly remember will be the teacher who taught you, perhaps at kindergarten. That was the time when you, as a little child, left the comfort of your home and parents and went into a completely new environment and started to study and play with other children. And that kindergarten teacher was the person who was loving and caring, making the initiation to learning less painful, more comfortable.

As you grew up your teachers also became your mentors, advisers, supporters, counselors, sympathizers and role models. And your teachers were persons who made you independent thinkers, adventurous learners and inquisitive researchers. And they fostered you at every step. Even when our teachers seemed harsh or tough with us it was to make us strong and capable to deal with the reality most ably and most aptly that awaited us in the world. We realized that later. And we were only overwhelmed with gratitude.

These memories flood our minds and hearts as we remember our dear teachers. Yes, indeed!

Years may roll on and time flies, yet our teachers have a very special place in our hearts. That it seems is the power of sharing. When teachers teach us it is really that they share so much of their time, learning and life skills with us. Teachers are indeed so generous, and that is what transforms the lives of students year after year.

When we come together on occasions such as today to celebrate the lives and work of teachers, let us determine to share, in our own way, something that we may be endowed with, with those who may lack it. When we can do something akin to what our teachers did for us, it would only make our teachers happy and proud of us. It may be one way of saying a big thank you to our teachers.

Nothing can equal what our teachers have done for us. But we can try in whatever small way we can.

Teachers are the ones who open the minds of the young ones to the world. They impart knowledge and show them what matters the most. Teachers have a lot of students to take care of, and they all look the same in the eyes of a teacher; whereas, the same teacher can appeal to each student differently. They make an impact on their lives and change them for the good.

The influence a teacher has on their students is huge. No matter what, a student always looks up to the teacher for help and guidance. Teachers are like second parents. Teachers have a fair share in the moulding of a child from the time the child is around 4 to 5 years old. So it is important that children have good teachers who could make them intellectually, emotionally and morally sound and strong.

‘A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others’, says Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Teaching has always been considered as a noble profession. No good teacher looks for their own success and endeavour; they always have their students’ present and future in mind. When one chooses to be a teacher, it is understood that a number of qualities are embodied in that individual.

A teacher is looked upon as a guide, a mentor, a friend and a selfless abode of love and care. No matter how young or old a teacher is, they consider their students as their own children. The influence of a teacher extends beyond the classroom. The best teachers tell their students where to look but don’t tell them what to see, according to Alexandra K Trenfor. Teachers let their light shine bright even on the darkest roads so that the little ones do not lose track of their destination. You are everything a teacher should be. To the world, you may be just another teacher, but to us, you are our hero. We respect you for what you have been doing for us all through these years. We know we are not the best students, but you are the best teacher we could ever ask for. Thank you for accepting us for who we are and for loving us as much.

Teachers play a pivotal role in the life of each and every student. A teacher need not be perfect, but a teacher ought to be knowledgeable so as to provide the students with the right information and considerate so as to be able to try and understand every little child. Teachers are often a source of inspiration. There are children who follow the footsteps of their teachers. A good teacher is like a treasure that has to be cherished and valued.

Joyce Meyer said, “Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges”. It is true that as teachers, they always chalk out the right direction and overcome the challenges on the way. Teachers can do more than just guide. They pave the way and let the children choose their own paths to become the best version of themselves in the future.

Why are teachers important in our life?

Teachers impart knowledge and guide us in the right directions. Our life would definitely not be the same without dedicated teachers who selflessly work in order to make our lives better.

How do you end a speech?

There are numerous ways in which you can end your speech. You can simply sum up and conclude, use a quote that sums up the whole idea of the speech, motivate everyone listening to you to join in with you to make a difference and so on.

What is the best speech for a teacher?

If you are thinking about what would be the best thing to say when you are asked to speak about your teacher, here is a tip. You can share your experiences about your teachers and thank them for all that they have done for you.

Speech on the Importance of Teachers in Our Life

The importance of teachers can be highlighted by their direct influence in shaping the character and personality of students. It is the teachers who have the greater responsibility of setting examples for the students.

1. I have heard from my childhood days the saying that ‘no man is an island of himself.’ This is so true, especially when you come to a point when you meet a major pillar of your life and it isn’t easy to let go. A major reason for the success you have been to me and an encouragement to keep going on in life. I wish that your land of knowledge never becomes a desert but be fruitful with many of your breeds like me. Thank you!

2. It is an honor to be a teacher. The truth be told if there’s no birthing without mothers, then society is also barren without teachers. Teachers take in knowledge ceaselessly, birth personalities, and still nurture them for the proper administration of those knowledge and skills passed across to them. I love and appreciate my teachers!

3. Doctors prescribe drugs for you but would not teach you how to know what to do in another situation. Mechanics repair cars but it is definitely not in your place to know about those cars. Teachers are the only set of people who don’t just give a solution but also prepare you to take charge in other situations. They leave you smiling with victory and ready to face the life ahead.

4. Teaching is one profession that everyone seems to overlook, but on the other hand, teachers seem to have the world’s interest at heart. Seeking to make the world better, they transform individuals and with every experience, bring out a new person in us. I am ever grateful for going through this very important set of people in life.

5. I am proud to announce to everyone that there’s indeed an entity that is an embodiment of knowledge which is even more than what books offer to us. Such entities are teachers, a gift of knowledge, wisdom, and guidance to lives from God. You have never neglected this role of yours and you have passionately dispensed it to us over the years. Thank you for being a joy to me, the school system, society, and the world.

6. With so much investment of time and attention you have put into us, no doubt you should be the richest one in the world! With patience, commitment and love, you have tirelessly made us feel how pleased you are to be a teacher. May you reap a bountiful harvest according to your desires for your students.

7. Who took so many positions for my sake as you have done over the years? You have been a father, mother, friend, sister, brother, and advisor at different times and the right moments. Ever timely with words of affection and guiding words. I love you, teacher.

8. For all apologies I never made, I am sorry. For all deeds I never appreciated, I say thank you. I remember meeting you for the first time, it seems too short a time to spend with someone as impactful as you. The little time I’ve spent with you has left me leaving a good mark on everyone around me already, I wish I could spend more time with you. I cherish you!

9. Chefs make the best taste out of recipes. Artists make the best out of materials. Teachers make the best out of their students . We came raw to you, and in such a little while, you have made us better and I know we’ll keep getting better. Thanks to the best teacher!

10. The center of education is our teachers . Knowledge revolves around them, just as the earth revolves around the sun. As the sun lightens up the earth, so do teachers enlighten us. What can we do without knowledge on earth? What can we do without teachers too? There’s no learning and improvement without them. You’re the best. Thank you!

11. When we seem lost during lessons, you take the pain of going through it again as well as going to each individual’s level of assimilation. You are the most blessed with skill. Many love to pass something known across to others, but you do so exceptionally with a unique method. You’re blessed ma’am. Thank you.

12. Teachers are the most solid foundation on which educationists stand. The most fertile ground on which intellectuals grow. Also, the most beautiful garden of knowledge is full of fruitful and responsible individuals in society. We’ll never forget you, teacher!

13. A perfect blend and bridge between the theories of life and their application in life are teachers. You help us to cross from one part of the bridge to the other. You have made life so much better for us, making us believe even in dreams becoming reality. Standing by us even when others desert us in our decisions. Thank you!

14. God gave us stones and teachers tell us how to use these stones to build. God gave plants, teachers teach us how to groom the plants. God gave us life, but teachers lead us to how to walk this life well. Loving you is definitely a way to love God who has blessed you with the ability to pass such knowledge across. I must say yours is indeed a blessed profession. I love my teachers!

15. An ever-flowing stream of knowledge that never stops refreshing all that surrounds them are teachers. The number of individuals you have supplied consistently over time is overwhelming. Day by day, week by week, month by month, and year by year. You quench the thirst for finding answers to various issues of life. Thank you for choosing to be a teacher!

16. The borders of education are so broad and wide! You have been able to break it down into bits I can comprehend per time. In no time, I have covered a wide landscape of knowledge. It is amazing though how you know so much, but you keep learning, having the assurance that I also can know so much and pass it on. Making the world never ignorant of things we should know. Thank you for being my teacher!

17. Teachers are the channels through which knowledge and value keep on going from generation to generation. It would be lost without them! Imagining a world without teachers is imagining a world without knowledge. How disastrous it would be. I’m so glad to be learning and be opportune to pass it on to the surviving generation for the betterment of the world we live in. All hail our teachers!

18. From teaching ‘simple to difficult’ and from little to large chunks of information. You have gained mastery of these processes over the years and I desire that you get better. This attribute of yours has made us excellent in all stages of our learning process, helping us learn the right thing at the right time. Thank you for being there for us, and being patient with us. Wish you the best in life.

19. Disappointments do not show on you when we seem not to measure up to the expected performance. Still, you encourage us to keep going up the ladder . You keep letting us know, ‘falling is not defeat’, but refusing to stand and fight on is defeat. These words of encouragement ring in my ears and now I must say, I’m so familiar with success that failure is way behind me. Thank you!

20. As seasons go and come, I ask myself if I could find another like you. Your methods of approach to us students do not change because of seasons. Rather, you ensure that we are not discouraged by the seasons. You even make all seasons make more expression and meaning to us. Making education fun all the way. How you do this is amazing and unique!

21. I remember you telling us that we were your strength, then I asked myself ‘how could that be true?’ Knowing fully well that you have been a strong support to us in academics, and every other area. Now, I think I’ve gotten my answer. You teach with so much passion that it breaks your heart to see us not doing well. If this breaks you, then I promise to always do well, and keep you strong and happy for us. You deserve to be the strongest on earth.

22. Intelligent, passionate, enthusiastic, understanding, wise, patient, and many more are words that describe you. Even the best words are not enough to describe what you are. Exceptional and outstanding are the qualities that make you up. No wonder you build up exceptional individuals for their families and society at large. Thank you!

23. The world’s most precious instrument of peace is a teacher. The reason is, they can turn hearts with words. Whatever way we treat teachers affects society directly or indirectly. Teachers should really be celebrated, they are worth it.

24. Who else is as priceless as teachers? We can not pay them enough for the knowledge they pass across. If we were to pay a dollar for every piece of information given to us students, we might have to spend our whole life paying them. How valuable they are!

25. Just as precious stones that cannot be worn casually. Teachers can not be celebrated casually. The world should know and reverence teachers more than we have always done. There’s no replacement for the place of teachers in the world system.

26. As much as it is necessary to do so, we don’t have to wait till a particular day before celebrating teachers. Teachers are worth more than gold, with hearts beautiful as flowers and precious words as rare gems. If anything could make the world better every day, it is the art of teaching. Let these precious hearts keep on passing knowledge and making the world better.

27. There’s no argument to the fact that only the teaching profession is mostly recognized worldwide and in all spheres and strata. It is the profession that reaches out to the rich and poor and even the physically impaired. Other professions try to reach out.

Only teachers find it natural to do it. Everyone learns every day and everywhere. It is not like a business that needs so much capital, but rather a good heart. I love and celebrate all the teachers!

28. An archive of knowledge that never gets old but is always updated even on modern issues of life. With mastery of subject matters and personal affairs. All these describe teachers. Some were born to be teachers with natural teaching abilities. While some learn to be able to pass on knowledge effectively. Either way, I celebrate all teachers as a student , knowing how much work it takes for one to understand concepts and terms. Thank You!

29. It takes so much consciousness to take note of and even remember some little details. Just think of the volume of details teachers manage to retain! It’s definitely amazing! I have found a blessed one who has turned me into a blessed one too. Thank you for being my teacher.

30. Crossing bridges in life, making decisions, and finding the right path has become a much easier task for everyone now because of the guidance teachers give to us. Right from a very young age, individuals are now able to make vital decisions about life, not just academic wise, but in various aspects of life. I can testify to this because I have been opportune to be taught by one of the best of them all.

Ladies and gentlemen, respected dignitaries, esteemed teachers, and my dear friends, I am extremely delighted and grateful for the opportunity to speak before you today on an immensely significant topic – ‘The Importance of a Teacher in Our Life’.

We all know that teachers hold a prominent place in our lives. They are responsible for shaping our minds, molding our character, and guiding us towards the path of wisdom, knowledge, and success. Behind every successful person, there is a teacher who has invested their time, energy, and love to help them reach their full potential.

To begin with, let us take a moment to acknowledge the herculean task that teachers undertake daily. They wear multiple hats – they serve as our educators, mentors, counselors, and friends – all to ensure that we become better individuals and responsible citizens. With their unwavering patience, they teach us subjects that range from the simple to the complex, from basic manners to intricate theories, and from learning the alphabet to understanding the nuances of literature, science, and mathematics.

Furthermore, teachers play a crucial role in fostering a love for learning within us. By employing innovative teaching methods, they make the process of education enjoyable and engaging. When we find a subject difficult or uninteresting, it is often the passion, creativity, and dedication of a teacher that can reignite our interest and drive us to excel in that field. Teachers also recognize our unique strengths and weaknesses, and they take it upon themselves to provide us with personalized guidance and constructive feedback, which ultimately helps us to grow and succeed.

Beyond academics, teachers are instrumental in instilling moral values, ethics, and principles in us. They help us differentiate between right and wrong, good and bad, and they encourage us to make wise decisions. Through their words and actions, teachers inspire us to be honest, disciplined, empathetic, and kind, not only in school but also in every aspect of our lives. By nurturing our emotional intelligence and social skills, they enable us to build strong relationships and face challenges with a positive attitude.

Moreover, teachers serve as invaluable role models for us, showcasing the power of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Their unyielding belief in our abilities motivates us to dream big and strive to achieve those dreams. They celebrate our successes, guide us through our failures, and support us in our endeavors to grow intellectually and personally. A good speech in school will earn you the admiration of your teachers and peers alike. You probably won't deliver the kind of speech you hear in the movies, but that's a good thing: people will enjoy your original take much more. From getting an idea to conquering stage fright, here are the steps to take if you want to make your final speech a memorable, exciting success.

Sample Speeches

short speech on school teacher

Writing the Speech

Step 1 Choose a topic or theme.

  • If you're not sure which theme to choose, write down or summarize a few stories and statements you could include in your speech. Pick the ones you like best and see if there's a unifying theme to tie them together.
  • See What to Do and What Not to Do for more advice on themes.

Step 2 Pick a tone that makes you comfortable.

  • Don't interrupt one point with a clause, or section set aside by commas or parentheses. Instead of saying "Our tennis and basketball teams, which we all know won the regional championships two years ago, need increased funding to compete," say "Our tennis and basketball teams both won the regional championships two years ago. Now we need to increase their funding to compete with other schools."
  • You can reference your school's slang once or twice to get a laugh, but don't overdo it, especially if there are parents in the audience.

Step 4 Write down original stories and messages.

  • Find a broad message that your whole audience can connect to their own life, but still deals with a specific idea. For instance: "Become an even better version of the hero who inspired you." (But don't steal your "original" idea from this website!)
  • Your stories can be specific incidents in your life or from history, but you should connect them to a more general idea. For instance, you could tell a story about your sibling's hospital visit, then go on to talk about overcoming fear and hardship in general.
  • If you like what you're writing but it doesn't fit the theme you had planned, it's fine to adjust your topic or switch it entirely. Switch back and forth between writing stories and brainstorming a theme if you keep getting stuck.

Step 5 Find a gripping way to begin your speech.

  • Surprise your audience by diving right into a tough story. "When I was ten years old, I lost my father."
  • Make your audience laugh by telling a joke, especially one that everyone in the room will get. "Hello everyone. Let's have a round of applause for the guy who installed air conditioning."
  • Start with a grand, thought-provoking statement. "Our galaxy contains billions of earth-like planets, and we're only just beginning to discover them."
  • Most likely, someone else will introduce you, and many of your classmates know you already. Unless you're asked specifically to introduce yourself, you can get right to the good stuff.

Step 6 Make the theme clear.

  • To use an example from earlier, if your theme is "Become an even better version of the hero who inspired you," you could begin your speech with two or three sentence about your hero, then say "You all have heroes who inspire you, but you don't have to just follow them. You can become even greater than the people you look up to."

Step 7 Move from one idea to the next in a natural order.

  • Include phrases such as "Now I'd like to talk about..." and "But we should also remember..." when moving on to your next idea.

Step 8 End with a memorable statement that captures your speech.

  • Build up to a big ending, then crack a joke to wrap up a funny speech. "And I know when you walk to the ballot box tomorrow, you'll be ready to do the right thing. Protect the interests of yourself and your school by washing your hands afterward. Do you know how many people touch that thing?"
  • If you're giving a commencement speech, leave people feeling excited or awed about the future. This is a big moment and you have the power to help them realize it. "Years from now, you will be the father or mother your kid looks up to. The writer who changes the way we think. The inventor who creates new ways to live. Come up to the stage and start becoming heroes!"

Step 9 Edit and polish it as much as possible.

  • Have a teacher, family member, or trusted friend check it over for grammar mistakes and offer feedback. Spelling isn't as important, since you'll be speaking out loud.

Step 10 Consider visual aids.

  • If your topic involves a lot of numbers, plan to write them on the board so your audience can remember them

Step 11 Turn the speech into note cards, then practice!

  • Your notes are there to remind you what to say next and of important facts. "Move on to bear wrestling story (guy's name is Paul Bunyan)" is the level of detail you need.

Practicing and Delivering the Speech

Step 1 Think about movement and materials.

  • Practice giving your speech in as situation as similar to your actual speech as possible.
  • In general, you should stay fairly still while giving a speech. Small hand gestures and occasionally moving to a new spot are fine, especially if they help you feel and appear confident

Step 2 Practice speaking loudly and clearly.

  • If you speech is too long, you absolutely need to cut some material out of it or shorten the longer stories or ideas. If you're giving a commencement speech, aim for a 10 or 15 minute maximum. An election speech should be no more than a few minutes, and your teacher should be able to tell you the time limit for a class assignment speech.

Step 4 Talk slowly and pause between ideas.

  • If you can't stop rushing, work out how long you should spend on each section and write the number of minutes at the top of each index card or paragraph. Practice near a clock so you can check whether you're on pace.

Step 5 Deliver your speech to a mirror until you can do it without reading.

  • Use slightly different words each time once you have the main ideas down. Try not to get caught up on exact memorization; using a new phrase to communicate the written idea makes your speech sound more natural.

Step 6 Pay attention to other details once you become comfortable with the content.

  • Practice varying your facial expression if your face looks fixed and mechanical.
  • Try to vary the tone of your voice as well. Don't make it sound like you're reciting every word from memory; pretend you're speaking in ordinary conversation.

Step 7 Practice in front of a test audience.

  • Try to make eye contact with different members of your audience throughout the speech. Don't stare at any one person for too long.
  • Resist the temptation to hide by standing near a corner or large object.
  • Don't fidget, tap your foot, or make other nervous gestures. Try slowly walking back and forth across the stage to get rid of your nervous energy.

Step 8 Use their feedback to practice more.

  • Dressing nicely will increase your confidence and gain respect and attention from your audience.

What to Do and What Not to Do

Step 1 Choose an appropriate theme (for an election speech).

  • Memories your class shares and personal memories that many people will connect to, such as your first day at the school.
  • Overcoming obstacles. Talk about how your classmates overcame problems related to academics, finances, and health, and how proud everyone is that they're standing here.
  • The diversity of your classmates and celebrating the rich variety of experiences, personalities, and interests at your school. Describe some of the many ways people will go on to do good in the world.

Step 3 Use techniques to make your speech more memorable.

  • Address your audience directly. Ask them questions to get them thinking, although you shouldn't expect an answer.
  • Use groups of three. The human brain loves repetition, and especially trios. Start three sentences with the same phrase, speaking louder each sentence.
  • Use emotive language. Try to provoke a strong emotional response in your audience, not present a list of facts to them.

Step 4 Thank specific people, but don't go on too long.

  • Don't tell stories that only a few friends will understand. Even references that your whole class will get should be used sparingly if there are parents in the room as well.

Step 6 Avoid clichés.

  • Go change the world!
  • Today is not the last day of your education, but the first.
  • The future belongs to you.
  • If elected, I will be the voice of the students.
  • It's time for change!

Step 7 Don't insult or offend anyone.

  • If you're giving a high school commencement speech, remember that not everyone in your class will be attending college. Don't joke about your education letting you avoid a "bad" profession; chances are good there's a parent who has that job out in the audience.=

Schools are the first place where we learn about various new things which help in our growth. Schools help us to learn how to balance life properly. Similarly, my school played an important role in my life. The man I am today is all because of what I learned during my school days.

I studied in an all-boys school which was established in 1979. It has a very old building which looks like a huge mansion. It is the oldest school in my town. It has a history of producing toppers to the country. It has a  building which stands tall and has a renowned name across the city and  I am sure it will be for many years to come.

For the past 30 years, my school has a track record of producing the highest number of toppers in the board exams, and that’s the reason many students want to get into it.

The unique quality of my school is that it not only focuses on only academics but also gives a lot of importance to sports.

When it comes to sports my school has the biggest playgrounds in the city for various sports like badminton, cricket, volleyball, throwball and many more. Because of this reason every year, an inter-level sports competition is held in my school’s playground. Fortunately, I was also part of the badminton team that won 2nd place at the all-school badminton championship. The various competitions held at my school help me realize the importance of fitness in my life and I want to thank my school for that.

In addition to the sports competition, various science competitions were also held annually in my school. Different science projects were presented and the best one was awarded a cash price and a trophy. During these competitions, students’ presentation and public speaking skills were tested. Despite being shy I participated in the competition but lost it as I was not very good at presenting my science project. During that time my teachers helped me and pointed out the mistakes which I made. It helped me a lot in the future as I worked on those mistakes and now I am not afraid. I thank my teachers for that.

To conclude this speech, all I want to say is that I loved attending my school. It was my second home. A home where my friends were like my family members who cared for and loved each other. I feel lucky to have such friends in my life. It was the place where I felt enthusiastic to learn new things. A place where I learned the skills which helped me in facing the challenges fearlessly. Last but not least I would like to thank my teaching and non-teaching staff who were always polite and helped me whenever I needed them.

School Speech For Students

A school is one of the only places which act as a temple of education. The place is not only for teaching the students the many facts of life but also to have them develop their brains. With the schools playing an important role in a student’s life, many institutions require the students to write or give a speech on the topic “My School”. This might be introduced at any point of time in a student’s life. They may be asked to do this when they are in the 1st standard or when they are in the 10th standard. The marks, scores, or grading system may vary as per the students who are chosen to participate.

Students can have a good preparation regarding such speeches which can make them realize their own potential for giving such speeches. These can also build their confidence.

Teachers - A Helping Hand

Students might be asked to give a long speech or a short speech. It all depends on the decision that the school has taken. Though it might be a competition among students, the teachers are encouraged to get involved as well. They can most certainly help the students in the whole process.

The duty actually falls onto the English teachers. They are the ones who can help the students more effectively. They can have the students take the step forward on their own and give the best speech without any grammatical or vocabulary errors.

Teachers' Day is not just a day to offer flowers and gifts; it's a day to express our deep gratitude and appreciation for the selfless work our teachers do. They play a pivotal role in shaping our future and moulding us into responsible citizens of society. Their dedication goes beyond the classroom as they inspire us to dream big and believe in ourselves.

As students, we are fortunate to have teachers who not only impart knowledge but also instil values that stay with us for a lifetime. Long Speech on Teacher’s Day for Students

Respected Principal, teachers, dear students, and esteemed guests,

Good morning to all of you,

Today, we are gathered here to celebrate a day that holds immense significance in our lives – Teacher's Day. This day provides us with an opportunity to express our deep appreciation for the invaluable contributions that our teachers make to our education and personal growth.

Teachers are the architects of our futures. They are the guiding lights that illuminate the path of knowledge, wisdom, and character-building for us. Their impact goes far beyond the classroom, shaping not only our academic pursuits but also our values, aspirations, and outlook on life. As we celebrate Teacher's Day, it is essential to reflect on the profound role teachers play in moulding us into responsible citizens and lifelong learners.

The history of Teacher's Day dates back to the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished philosopher, scholar, and teacher. His dedication to education and his belief in the power of knowledge to transform lives have left an indelible mark on our society. It was his humility and commitment that led him to suggest that his birthday should be celebrated not as his own, but as a day to honour teachers. This gesture exemplifies the humility and selflessness that define the teaching profession.

The journey of education cannot be traversed alone. It requires the guidance, mentorship, and support of dedicated teachers who nurture us along the way. They invest their time, energy, and passion in ensuring that we are equipped with the tools we need to succeed, both academically and in life. They believe in us even when we doubt ourselves and encourage us to reach for the stars.

Every teacher is unique and brings their own style and approach to the classroom. Some teachers are strict taskmasters, pushing us to achieve our best, while others are compassionate listeners, ready to offer a guiding hand when we face challenges. Regardless of their methods, all teachers share a common goal – to empower us with knowledge and skills that will enable us to thrive in an ever-changing world.

The impact of a teacher goes beyond academic subjects. They are role models who teach us values like honesty, empathy, and perseverance. They inspire us to be curious, to question the world around us, and to seek knowledge beyond the confines of textbooks. Teachers shape our character, instil in us a sense of responsibility towards society, and encourage us to contribute positively to the world.

Think back to the teachers who have left a lasting impression on your life. Perhaps it was a teacher who patiently explained a difficult concept until you grasped it, a teacher who recognized your potential and encouraged you to pursue your passions or a teacher who offered a listening ear and words of comfort during challenging times. These are the teachers who go above and beyond, and who make a difference not only in our education but in our hearts.

As we celebrate Teacher's Day, let us not forget the challenges that teachers face. The teaching profession is one of dedication and sacrifice. Teachers often work long hours, spend countless evenings grading papers, and invest their own resources to create engaging learning experiences for us. It is important that we acknowledge their efforts and show our appreciation not just on this day but throughout the year.

So, how can we make this Teacher's Day meaningful? Firstly, let us express our gratitude. A simple "thank you" can go a long way in letting our teachers know that their hard work is recognized and valued. Secondly, let us strive to be active participants in our education. Engage in class discussions, ask questions, and take ownership of your learning journey. Lastly, let us carry forward the lessons our teachers have taught us. Let's be kind, curious, and committed to making a positive impact on the world around us.

In conclusion, let us celebrate Teacher's Day with genuine appreciation for the teachers who shape our lives. Let us honour their dedication, recognize their impact, and express our heartfelt gratitude. Remember that the knowledge and values they impart will continue to influence us long after we leave the school gates. As we embark on our journey of learning and growth, let us carry the torch of knowledge that our teachers have passed on to us and make them proud in all our endeavours.

How To Conclude Teacher's Day Speech?

  • Extend gratitude to your listeners and offer a heartfelt "thank you."
  • Concluding with a resonant quote about teachers while expressing your sincere appreciation can be especially impactful.
  • Don't shy away from weaving in your encounters and experiences, as these anecdotes can infuse authenticity and emotion into your speech, making it all the more impactful.

How to give a speech for teachers' day- a guide for students and teachers

A teachers’ day speech is a special occasion speech. It is a speech where you acknowledge your teachers, gurus or mentors for being an absolute human guide and encouraging you to dream. On this special day, you express your gratitude towards them, it can be in the form of a speech or stage performances.

‘When one teaches, two learn.’  Robert Heinlein

Teachers’ Day is that one event which not only excites the students, but the teachers as well. It is an important day for the students, as it gives them a chance to recognize the efforts put in by their teachers to ensure that they get proper education and ethics in life. Likewise, the teachers also await the Teachers’ Day celebration, as their efforts get acknowledged and honoured by their students.

But why is it important to celebrate Teachers’ Day?

Teaching is considered to be the most sacred and noble professions of all, as teachers are the ones to craft the other professions.

Teachers have the ability to change the students’ life for the better. Teaching is a tough job; however, it is that one job where you can make the optimum impact on another person’s life.

However, we often tend to forget the importance teachers have in our lives. So, on this day you make them realize how important they are in your life along with this you appreciate their existence, their efforts and their guidance.

How to appreciate your teachers or students in your teachers' day speech

Not only students, but teachers also express their views to the students because their profession is nothing without their students.

If you are looking for tips on how you can draft a heart touching speech for teachers’ day, don’t worry we’ve got some suggestions for you (teacher or student).

But remember, the only key to give a heartwarming speech is Authenticity.

importance of being authentic or genuine in your teachers' day speech

Tips to Remember Before you Draft your Teachers’ Day Speech:

1)  appreciate, do not exaggerate.

When you give a speech on occasions like teachers’ day, it demands you to be authentic while sharing your experiences or showing gratitude. Being authentic will help you make your speech pure and impressive at the same time.

Try to articulate your feelings in the simplest form which will make your speech sound genuine.

Exaggeration in a speech might make you lose your credibility, making it sound unreal.

In case of students giving a speech for their teachers, you can appreciate their efforts, praise them, or the way in which they helped you garner knowledge, improve your skills, grow confidence as well as to help you choose the right path to success.

In short, when thinking about the best way to thank your teacher/s, consider what exceptional they did or above their call of duty? How did they inspire you or change your thinking? Did they inspire some new academic avocation or activity? What skills will you hold dear in future?

You are basically trying to acknowledge the efforts that your teachers have put in. So try and make your acknowledgement sound genuine and speak from your heart and not just for the sake of saying it.

In case of teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more on the lines of how your students have been motivating you or how happy you are to see their efforts to do better everyday, for instance, showing their interests in the extracurricular activities or competitions.

Pro tip- Do not overdo it, for instance over praising your teachers or students, the listeners will understand it is not coming from your heart.

2) Dedicate your Thoughts

The speaker should be expressive about one’s emotions. Your speech is dedicated to the event of Teachers’ day, so everything you speak has to support the event.

For students giving a speech on teachers’ day, the speaker can dedicate the speech mainly to acknowledge his teachers, communicate gratitude towards them and applaud them for being a beacon of light in their lives.

For teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more about why it is celebrated, the importance of a teacher in a student’s life, what motivates you to be a teacher.

3) The PURPOSE should be at the Heart of your Speech

One thing you need to bear in your mind is the purpose of your speech. Purpose means, why is the speech drafted or for what are you drafting the speech.

For instance, in case of students , the speech is drafted for your teachers in order to pay them a tribute or acknowledge their efforts.

Similarly, in case of teachers , your speech is drafted for the students as well the fellow teachers, so your purpose of talking would be the joy you experience while teaching or guiding your students or expressing your gratitude for the efforts the students have taken to make your day special.

Therefore, your speech needs to revolve much around teachers’ day, so that you don’t deviate from the purpose of your speech.

4) Duration of the Speech

The goal of any speaker is to make his speech memorable and at the same time the one which has a long-lasting impact.

While drafting your speech, try to keep it short and sweet, as it is more likely to hold your audiences’ attention. It also forces you to say what you mean and nothing more. Meaning, you will cover only those points that are central to your message or speech.

Stick to your topic and then draft your speech accordingly – use as few words as possible and limited anecdotes to retain your audiences’ attention without sacrificing the essential information.

Make sure the points you want to make come out clearly.

We’ve written an article on How to Deliver a 1 Minute Speech: Tips, Examples, Topics & More . Check it out to get some tips on how you can deliver a short speech.

After keeping in mind these few suggestions, the next step would be to organize your content, so that your speech flows smoothly.

Here’s an article on How to make your speech flow smoothly . You can review this article to get a better understanding regarding the same.

In order to give a clear and a structured speech, your speech needs to be divided into three parts, mainly- Introduction, Body and Conclusion.

How to Organize your Teachers’ Day Speech?

1) introduction.

An introduction can be best considered as the foundation of your speech. Just as you can’t build a building without forming its base, you cannot build your speech until and unless you don’t introduce your topic.

Introducing your topic will help you gain the audiences’ attention because you’re revealing the purpose of you standing in front of them.

The goal is to start your speech with impact and to do this, you can start by telling a story or a quote, or by asking an interesting question.

Here’s an article that we’ve written on various storytelling approaches that you can consider for your next speech.

You can start your speech with, say like a story or a quote and then connect it to the occasion of Teachers’ day or teachers in general.

For instance, a student can start his speech with a hypothetical situation, supposing a life without a teacher and then connect it to being thankful for having them in your life as torch bearers.

A teacher can start her speech by expressing her gratitude towards the program that has been organized for them along with a few lines regarding why is teachers’ day celebrated

To start your speech with a bang, you can review the article that we wrote on 15 powerful speech opening lines and how to create your own.

After choosing an impactful opening remark, the next part would be the body of your speech.

Oftentimes, more importance is given to the opening and closing remarks and everything in between is considered to be filler. This should not be the case because the body of a speech is where you offer the evidence or data to support your main message.

Taking the previous example in case of students , you can actually start expressing your gratitude towards them, recognize their efforts, explain their importance in your life, and much more.

In case of teachers , you can build your speech on the basis of how your students motivate you or how you feel about teaching as a profession, or what joy you experience while teaching.

3) Conclusion

The conclusion of your speech should restate your main message.

You basically summarize the main points of your speech which will help you to create a long-lasting impression in the minds of your audience.

You can end your speech in much the same way you began- with a story, quotation, or a question.

In case of students ending their Teachers’ day speech, you can thank your teachers for being an essential part of your journey.

In case of teachers ending their Teachers’ day speech, they can provide a bunch of advice to their students.

We have a few suggestions or tips on Ways to end your speech with maximum impact .

To make this simple, here are some points that you can cover while drafting your speech.

4 Points Students can cover in their Teachers’ Day Speech :

  • Teacher’s importance in your life
  • Acknowledge their efforts that they have put in for you
  • You can highlight the significance of teachers’ day
  • Express your gratitude towards them

Sample Speech by Students for their Teachers

Education without teachers is like a body without a soul.  “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning” , says Brad Henry. Let’s pick the first keyword over here – ‘HOPE’. A teacher is capable of returning the lost light in a student’s life. Therefore, teachers are the torch bearers who show us the path of success and walk us through the entire path until we achieve something. Today we all have gathered here to celebrate the presence of those unsung heroes without whom no profession would have existed, our teachers. It is said that parents give birth to a child, but it is the Teacher who makes sure that the child is not only raised as a tough individual, but also as an ideal citizen. We students have sometimes made it so difficult for a teacher to survive, especially if we personally find a subject boring, but it is the teacher who has made us learn a lesson which is To Never Give Up. Even if we are disrespectful, intolerant, and sometimes cross all our limits of being bearable, she still continues to motivate us.  What a teacher writes on the blackboard of life can never be erased. The values, the skills and the life lessons taught by them are something we all will hold dear in our lives. You are the reason behind our dreams and our farsightedness. You have prepared us to become the fittest and the finest individuals. Without your presence we wouldn’t have learnt how to dream. Thank you for guiding us when we were wrong and being on your toes to get the best out of us, we all are very grateful to have you all as our teachers. I would like to conclude my speech through a short poem called Teachers by Kevin William Huff that summarizes the role of a teacher in a student’s life. Teachers Inspire a love of knowledge and truth As you light the path which leads our youth For our future brightens with each lesson your teach Each smile you lengthen Each goal you help reach For the dawn of each poet, each philosopher and king Begins with a teacher And the wisdom they bring

Sample Speech by Teachers for their Students

“There’s no word in the language I revere more than teacher. My heart sings when a kid refers to me as his teacher, and it always has. I’ve honored myself and the entire family of man by becoming a teacher.”  —Pat Conroy, Author It is said that Teachers have got their designation because of the existence of students, who are taught lessons for life. Welcoming the Principal, my fellow teachers and my dear students. It gives me immense pleasure to thank each and every student present here for putting up such a lovely program. We teachers feel highly privileged to have students like you all, so I would like to dedicate this day to all our students. Teaching for me is one of those careers, where you learn something new every day as well as impart knowledge and skills to train individuals and make them ready to face the real world. We really appreciate all the support that you’ve been giving us over the years and continuously reminding us about the value of our work and our potential to impact your lives for the greater good. In short, your support helps us remain mindful of our ultimate purpose and hold on to the passion that fuels our fire.  This special day reminds me of my own gurus and their impact on my life. I remember one of my teachers telling me this, “Beyond the undone and unseen lies the unachieved.” Meaning, to do something that nobody has done or seen and that’s when you will achieve what nobody has. To achieve something extraordinary you need to conquer the 3 D’s- Desire, Determination and Discipline.  Desire means being passionate about something you love.  Determination refers to being dedicated towards something that you are passionate about. Discipline refers to practicing what you are determined about. As teachers, we strongly believe it is our key responsibility to dig in the foundation to construct pillars of great strength. And I truly appreciate the efforts all the teachers have been putting in so as to achieve this. Before I sign off for the day I would like to give you all a piece of advice. Each one of you is different, each one of you has a different caliber, challenge yourself and chase your dreams. There will be a time in your life when you might fail, but don’t give up. Your success lies without your level of patience. Do great for the society and help everyone possible. Never take your profession on your head because at first, you have to be a good human before becoming a good professional. Hence, I proudly say teaching for me is sacred and I revere teaching as a profession.

My School Speech for School Students

Short speech on my school.

Every school is special in its own way and the same is with my school as well. It is a place where people from different backgrounds and temperaments come together with the purpose to learn. It offers magic in the form of experiments in laboratories, sports in the field, creativity in the art room and more. Schools are a place where we get to make friends, learn new things and grow every day. In fact, it is so hard to imagine a world without schools. They are the first place where we learn about life and many other things. Similarly, my school plays the same role in my life.

My School Speech

My School’s Uniqueness

I study in a convent school which has centuries-old buildings. It has two buildings which divide into the senior category and junior category. The red walls of my school are the trademark of our uniqueness. They are renowned all over the city and have been so for many years.

Every school carries some uniqueness in some way and so does my school. It is the only school in the whole city to cover the largest area. Moreover, my school produces the highest number of toppers in the board exams.

Other than that, the big playground of my school has the most modern swings which the kids absolutely love. In addition, the science lab of my school has all the gear and equipment one requires to successfully carry out experiments.

Another accomplishment of school is that it has got the largest library in the whole town. It consists of every book you can ever think of in many languages and genres. Most importantly, my school’s staff is very loving and inspirational. They love and care for us like their own children.

My Second Home

It would be only fit to call my school my second home. After all, it is the place where I spend most of my time after my home. Not only that, the atmosphere in my school is so comfortable that it makes me feel at home.

I have always loved attending school and never miss out on an opportunity to do so. Further, it is my second home also because I have my friends here who are nothing less than family to me. Thus, they make my school life easier and full of joy. It is truly a blessing to have them in my life.

Most importantly, my school is my second home because it teaches me a lot of things each day. It is a safe space that allows me to grow every day and reach greater heights. As you all know, we have our parents and older siblings at home who protect us at all times.

Similarly, at my second home which is my school, I have my teachers and seniors. They make sure I reach my full potential and encourage me to do the right thing always.

Therefore, I will forever be grateful to my school for being a pillar of strength in my life. Everything that I learn here stays in my mind and heart forever. One day I will have to bid farewell to these beautiful red walls and inspiring teachers, but it won’t change anything. It is so because my school is a part of who I am and it’ll always remain the same for my entire life.

Sample Motivational Speech for Teachers to Kick off the Year!

funny motivational speaker for educators

Summer is in full swing and with fall just around the corner, schools are busy planning back to school professional development events. Every year, school administrators need to find new ways to motivate and inspire teachers . It's important to start the year with excitement and energy, so below are some thoughts pulled together in a motivational speech that can be borrowed to motivate educators. I am a keynote speaker for over 10 education events per year and I find educators and support staff need inspiration more than ever.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT Subscribe to  Climb Outside Yourself

Below is a basic script( not one of my own motivational speeches) that will build momentum in the school year

Motivational Speech for Educators

As we kick off the new year, many of you come here will new enthusiasm, excitement, and energy.

Every new year you stand in front of your classroom, and you ask, how am I going to take this group from where they are to where they need to be?

Because every student deserves a great education. However, building people up takes energy, Building people up takes passion and grit. Building people up takes determination.

We've heard all of this before, and if you say it long enough, and if you say it with passion- people start to believe it.

Many days you come to work when you don't feel like it -but you fake the enthusiasm and muster the energy anyways. Because you won't let your students down.

Teaching requires passion and joy . We know passion is contagious; Energy is contagious, Ambition is contagious.

We are grateful for the positive motivation you bring to each school year.

The most valuable thing we have is time and attention. If time is the most valuable and precious thing we have, it's also the most precious thing we can give. Every day you give that to a student, a student that may not get much of anyone's time or attention.

Today students spend too much time on technology, instead of connecting and building real relationships.

However, when you talk about a world of instant gratification, there’s a problem with it.

If you grow up in a world where you are instantly gratified to do what you want to do, a lot of things that build success don’t require that.

Now we need to teach students delayed gratification, because If you don’t sacrifice for something you don’t value it.

One of the most important things we bring to the classroom is the work ethic. Are we working harder? Are we getting better?

Let’s teach students to solve problems , instead of looking for opportunities.

This year, let's bring the energy, passion, and determination back to our school. Students deserve the best education they can get, and we are prepared to give it to them.

Long Farewell Speech for Teacher by Students

It is with mixed emotions that I stand here today to bid farewell to one of the most beloved members of our faculty, Mrs. Chandra. After 25 years of dedicated service to our school, she has decided to retire and embark on a new chapter in her life.

For many of us, Mrs. Chandra has been more than just a teacher, she has been a mentor, a friend, and a role model. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to her students has been an inspiration to us all. She has impacted countless lives and has left a lasting legacy at Hindustan Academy.

Her love for the English language was contagious. In her classrooms, we learned not just the rules of grammar and the intricacies of literature, but also the beauty of expression and the power of words. She encouraged us to think critically, to ask questions, and to embrace the unknown.

Her dedication to her students was unparalleled. She made every student feel seen, heard and valued. She went above and beyond to help us understand difficult concepts and to instill in us a love of learning. Whether it was staying after class for extra help, or writing personalized notes of encouragement, Mrs. Chandra always made us feel like we were her top priority.

But her impact went beyond the walls of her classroom. Mrs. Chandra was an integral part of our school community. She was always there to offer support, to lend an ear, and to provide wise counsel. Her unwavering positive attitude and her infectious smile brightened the days of all who knew her.

Mrs. Chandra, on behalf of the entire Hindustan Academy community, I would like to express our gratitude for the years of hard work and service that you have given to our school. Your contributions to the education of our students will always be remembered. Your lessons will continue to shape us and influence the path we choose in life.

As you embark on this new chapter in your life, we wish you all the best. May your retirement be filled with happiness, health, and endless opportunities to pursue your passions. We hope that you will look back on your time at Hindustan Academy with pride and joy, knowing that you have made a positive difference in the lives of so many students.

In closing, I would like to share a quote that I believe perfectly sums up the impact that Mrs. Chandra has had on all of us: "The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book." And that, dear friends, is exactly what Mrs. Chandra did. She taught from the heart, and her love for her students, her subject, and her school, was evident in everything she did.

As we say goodbye to Mrs. Chandra, let us take a moment to reflect on the memories we have shared with her and the lessons she has taught us. Let us remember her smile, her laughter, and her kindness. And let us vow to continue her legacy by always striving to be the best versions of ourselves and to make a positive impact on the world around us.

Delray Beach teacher's firing exposes soaring staffing shortages in special needs programs

A longtime teacher with the school district was fired this month after she left a student alone for the third time in two years. what happened.

short speech on school teacher

A special education teacher of nearly 20 years years has been fired by the school district after she left a student with special needs behind and alone in the cafeteria at Pine Grove Elementary School while the rest of her students went to the classroom to start school for the day.

Although she'd worked at the school district for 17 years without incident, it was the third time in two years she'd left a student by themselves at the Delray Beach school, according to district investigative records.

Alisa Wampler got a reprimand from the school district for one incident in February 2022 and was suspended for five days in April 2023 for another. She called the latest incident a "horrible mistake" in interviews with district investigators but said that the morning breakfast scene with students is "chaotic." She detailed the difficulties of corralling 21 students, several with special needs, through the cafeteria with the help of just one paraprofessional.

Her firing shines a light on a bleak reality for students with special needs, their families and the teachers trusted to educate them: There aren't enough paraprofessionals to cover all the needs of students in district ESE programs.

In fact, the number of unfilled paraprofessional positions in the district has more than doubled since the 2020-21 school year. That year, there were 70 openings representing 5% of the total paraprofessional workforce.

Last year, district records show there were 156 positions were open, representing 13% of the total workforce of 1,151 paraprofessionals. More than 60% of the openings were at elementary schools where young students typically rely on their paraprofessionals the most.

"There's a lot that's lost when we don't have enough (paraprofessionals)," West Palm Beach education lawyer Shahar Pasch said. "We lose out (on) safety for students and safety for teachers, because there's a lot of ways kids can get hurt when they're not properly supervised. And we lose out on education. If a teacher is disrupted, that child is not learning and the other children in the classroom aren't learning."

More: Legacy of Dwyer High student who choked to death in cafeteria is to help prevent other incidents

The consequences can also be deadly. In 2015, a 19-year-old student at William T. Dwyer High died after he choked on food in the school's cafeteria. His regular paraprofessional worked with him one-on-one and knew to cut his food and supervise him closely at meals because he had a history of choking.

But on the day Kedar Williams died, school officials told his mother that paraprofessional was "no longer available." He was supplied a substitute paraprofessional who was in charge of supervising him and another student in the cafeteria.

What is a paraprofessional?

Paraprofessional employees, called "paras" by many school teachers, are noninstructional employees who help support special education teachers and students with special needs at the elementary, middle and high school level.

Paraprofessionals are not issued a teaching certificate by the Florida Department of Education like a teacher is but must pass a statewide assessment that evaluates their reading, writing and math skills as well as their ability to use those skills to help students in the classroom.

Paraprofessionals who work with students with special needs often take on many other duties, Pasch said. They can help clean up messes at meal time, help a child use the bathroom, redirect their focus during a lesson, help them take breaks if they're overstimulated or manage bad behavior in accordance with the child's IEP, or individualized education plan.

More: Graduation rates creep back to pre-pandemic levels. See how your Palm Beach County school did

While teachers are paid a minimum salary of $51,500 per year, paraprofessionals' starting salaries are between $16,600 and $22,500 based on their job title. Paraprofessionals are covered by one of two different unions depending on their job titles.

The low pay hardly represents the crucial role paraprofessionals play in special education and in general education classes, Pasch said.

"How much do you think you would want to pay someone to feed your child? To make sure your child stays safe? To help your child toilet? To be there when your child is so escalated that they become physically violent or to run and catch your child?" she asked.

Special education teacher concerned about staffing shortages in previous investigations

Wampler wasn't new to the world of teaching students with special needs. She was hired at Pine Grove Elementary in 2005 after earning a master's degree in special education.

She had an unremarkable first 10 years at the school where she achieved positive evaluations from the principals at the school. But in January 2022, Wampler was reprimanded by the school district after a student with special needs became separated from her class at recess and was missing for nearly an hour. The student was found off of school grounds, although the district investigative report does not say where.

In the minutes before the student went missing, Wampler told investigators, her two class paraprofessionals were supervising recess from a bench with her before she saw another student who had wet their pants and needed to be changed inside the school. After she changed the student's pull-up, she returned to recess before bringing her class inside.

Although she told the paraprofessionals she was bringing half the class inside and they should round up the remaining students and meet her back in the classroom, Wampler didn't do a headcount. As a result, the paraprofessionals brought three students back to class instead of four because they thought all the remaining students were with Wampler.

Wampler was adamantly remorseful in her interviews with investigators. She said she thought the student came inside with one of the paraprofessionals.

"I am so, so sorry, I let the student's mother know, there was no excuse, I should have done a headcount when I got back to the playground and I didn't, it's something I will live with," she said in an interview with investigators.

'Overjoyed': Alum of historic West Palm Beach high school convene for groundbreaking

But a similar incident unfolded in Wampler's classroom in November, when she left a young student alone as she took her other students to lunch. The student was alone for about 20 minutes on Nov. 22 before another teacher found him.

Principal Shauntay King told investigators that "no one seemed to realize that the student had been missing." Fellow teacher Cherline Collot told investigators that she found the student playing with toys in the dark classroom and that he did not appear upset that he'd been left behind.

Although the student wasn't alone for long, any situation in which a student is unsupervised can be dangerous, mental health counselor and child behavior analyst Natalia Herrera said. Students with special needs may put toys in their mouths and choke, fall and be unable to ask for help or have seizures, depending on their medical history.

"Especially with our neurodiverse community, especially in a classroom where you are trusting the teacher to keep your kids safe, it’s not OK to leave a child with special needs unattended," she said. "That is the teacher’s responsibility to their students."

Wampler was suspended for five days. She served her suspension in April 2023 and returned to the classroom.

'We have been very short staffed,' special needs teacher says

In her interviews with investigators, she lamented the lack of staff and support.

"I have been teaching (special education) for 19 years. For the past two years, we have been very short staffed," she wrote in a statement where she explained that two paraprofessionals were "shuffled" between her class and another class.

"I have the lower functioning students. The other class had the more independent students," Wampler said. "Mine were non-verbal, non-independent in the bathroom, (and) needing lots of support."

After the latest investigation began, Wampler was moved to Lantana Elementary for the 2023-24 school year.

School program offers tuition assistance for paraprofessionals

Despite increasing numbers of vacancies for paraprofessionals in public schools, the school district is trying to make the job more desirable. One plan is creating pathways for employees to move from non-instructional positions to teaching jobs.

School Board Chair Karen Brill said a new district program is covering up to $700 per course for paraprofessionals who go to school to earn a bachelor’s degree in special education, deaf education or visual disabilities.

Brill, whose son worked with a paraprofessional as a child in Palm Beach County schools, said they're needed in both special education classes and general education classes.

"Paras are really important. They play a critical role in the classroom, ss critical as the teachers," Brill said.

Politics latest: Supermarket boss accused of 'sour grapes' after switching to Labour

Thanks for following along on an extremely busy day in Westminster.

Before you go, here are the highlights:

  • The second reading of the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill has passed the House of Lords and will move on to the next stage;
  • A Liberal Democrat-backed motion which served as the law's first major hurdle in the Lords was also comfortably defeated;
  •  The Archbishop of Canterbury has made a powerful intervention in the debate over the government's Rwanda plan. Justin Welby says the bill to declare the country safe for asylum seekers to be sent leads the UK "down a damaging path";
  • The protesters outside were to be expected but no one anticipated details of the DUP's highly confidential executive meeting to be live tweeted from inside, our Ireland correspondent David Blevins reported;
  • An independent inquiry published its report into claims of corruption linked to the controversial Teesworks development.

We'll be back from 6am with all the latest.

One year ago, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.

The prime minister met his pledge to halve inflation by the end of 2023 - even though there was a surprise increase in the 12 months to December - leaving four pledges outstanding.

When it comes to the NHS, while both waiting lists and waiting times are shrinking slightly, the waiting list is still longer than in January last year, and the junior doctor pay dispute has not been resolved.

And as the Rwanda plan divides the Tory party, small boat crossings continue.

So, with the general election approaching, how is the prime minister doing on delivering his other promises?

You can see the progress for yourself below.

Last week, the government's plan to grant new oil and gas licences every year passed its latest hurdle in parliament.

The bill's supporters say it will improve energy security, as the UK still relies heavily on fossil fuels.

Critics, however, argue it will not cut energy bills and instead will break the UK's promise to phase out fossil fuels.

One of those critics is Chris Skidmore ,  who recently resigned as a Conservative MP over the government's net zero strategy and its decision to boost new oil and gas production.

Mr Skidmore, who led the independent government review into net zero, talked about the decision and Rishi Sunak's climate agenda with Sky's science and technology editor Tom Clarke on the latest episode of ClimateCast.

The second reading of the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill has passed the House of Lords and will move on to the next stage.

This came after six hours of debate by peers, and a defeated amendment vote.

An amendment to the Rwanda bill proposed by Liberal Democrat peer Lord German has been defeated in the Lords tonight.

The motion had been designed to block the legislation.

There were 206 not content votes to 84 content, marking a significant government majority of 122.

After a six-hour debate, peers are now voting on a proposed Liberal Democrat amendment to the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill.

This was proposed by Lord German.

By David Blevins, Ireland correspondent

The protesters outside were to be expected but no one anticipated details of the DUP's highly confidential executive meeting to be live tweeted from inside.

The running commentary, shared on X by loyalist activist Jamie Bryson, made a mockery of the party's attempt to debate a potential deal in private.

But his account must be read in the context of him being the arch-opponent of any compromise to restore power-sharing government in Northern Ireland.

"DUP meeting descends into mayhem," he writes. "Jeffrey Donaldson saying texts being sent to Jamie Bryson who is giving a blow-by-blow account of the meeting.

“DUP meeting now halted.  Fury and mayhem.  Jeffrey Donaldson says Police Service of Northern Ireland brought in to try and block phone signals."

The Democratic Unionists have boycotted power-sharing government for two years in protest over the power-Brexit trade border in the Irish Sea, between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

But their negotiations with the UK government are now understood to have concluded and Party Officers have been weighing up a possible return to Stormont.

Having kept the venue for tonight's meeting secret until the last minute to limit opposition outside, it ironic that the disruption has come from inside.

The surge of Reform UK continues as the party overtakes the Liberal Democrats in the polls for the first time.

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about different political parties.

Labour is still sitting comfortably on a roughly 20-point lead, averaging at 44.3% in the polls, and the Tories on 24.6%.

In third is Reform UK on 10.3%, followed by the Lib Dems on 9.8%, the Greens on 6.2%, and the SNP on 3.1%.

Rishi Sunak kicked off 2024's political season with a hint at when the next general election will be - saying earlier this month that it's his "working assumption" it will happen in the second half of the year.

Speculation has been rife for months about when the prime minister will choose to go to the polls, with some pundits  believing he would call one in May to coincide with the local elections.

UK general elections have to be held no more than five years apart, so the next one must take place by 28 January 2025 at the latest.

This would be five years from the day since the current parliament first met (17 December 2019), plus the time required to run an election campaign.

The phrase  "working assumption"   does give Mr Sunak wriggle room should circumstances change, and he has not ruled out a spring election.

Sky News spoke to pollsters about the factors the prime minister will be weighing up in making his decision - and when they think the election should be.

Kenneth Clarke's mobility is severely limited these days, and he perches on a walking frame when he attends the House of Lords.

But there's nothing slow moving about his intellect, as he demonstrated with a powerful speech opposing the government's Rwanda bill.

His reliance on his walking frame means he doesn't sit with his colleagues from John Major's cabinet on the front bench below the gangway on the government side of the chamber.

Instead, he and his frame sit directly in front of the cross-bench peers, with Lord Clarke facing the wool sack and the throne, rather than facing the opposition benches like the rest of the Tory peers.

But while this physical limitation means there's no opportunity for any theatrics, dramatic arm-waving gestures or the sort of rhetorical flourishes for which he was famed in his pomp in the 1980s and '90s, at 83 he's still a class act.

A grandee and national treasure these days, Lord Clarke said the bill was "a step too far" and it risked moving the UK towards an "elective dictatorship".

And on Rwanda's suitability for deportations, he claimed the country had been ruled by a "one-man dictatorship" and had "a dodgy record on human rights".

Vintage Clarke: the kind of plain speaking for which he has been renowned for decades.

Criticising the government's response to the Supreme Court ruling on the Rwanda policy, he said: "They have decided to bring an act of parliament to overturn a finding of fact made by the supreme court of this country."

And vowing to back amendments to the bill, he said the government had "dug a hole for itself" and it was guilty of  "follies in crashing on" with the policy.

Of course, we're used to listening to Lord Clarke speaking with gusto and flair.

But he wasn't the only member of John Major's cabinet to attack the bill. And it was someone we might not have expected to speak out so passionately.

Douglas Hogg, now Lord Hailsham, made a fiery speech of the kind we didn't hear from him when he was a cabinet minister in the 1990s (see 20.10 post).

"This bill trashes our reputation for domestic and international probity," he declared angrily.

And on ditching human rights protections, he quoted Martin Niemoller, a German pastor who spoke of his failure to speak out against the Nazis.

He admitted the circumstances were very different from those of the 1930s, but warned "best not to step on to a slippery slope because it can end in some very murky places."

But another member of the Major cabinet and a former home secretary like Lord Clarke, Kenneth Baker, backed the bill, as did Boris Johnson's former chief of staff, Eddie Lister.

Well, it was Eddie's old boss who launched the Rwanda plan back in 2022.

Also backing the bill was Lord Frost, who has been threatened with losing the Tory whip and being dumped from the candidates' list for would-be MPs over claims he's linked to the plotters against Rishi Sunak.

Well, up to a point, he backed it.

"I think it would certainly have been better if it had been amended to strengthen the exclusion of international law as proposed in the Commons, in my view we will one day have to go there in this area," he said.

"But it's done now, the Commons debated it fully and has now spoken, I support the government in bringing it into force swiftly.”

He appeared to be saying he backed the rebel amendments proposed by Rober Jenrick and Sir Bill Cash in the Commons. On that, he was a lone voice in the House of Lords.

When Tory rebels were plotting against John Major, Ken Clarke famously declared at a Tory conference: "Any enemy of John Major is an enemy of mine."

That was more than 30 years ago. These days, despite his mobility being impaired, Lord Clarke's ability to make a decent speech certainly isn't.
