Jawan movie Twitter Review in Tamil : அட்லீ இயக்கத்தில் ஷாருக்கான் நடிப்பில் பிரம்மாண்டமாக வெளியாகி இருக்கும் ஜவான் திரைப்படத்தின் டுவிட்டர் விமர்சனத்தை இந்த தொகுப்பில் பார்க்கலாம்.

தமிழ் சினிமாவில் கமர்ஷியல் இயக்குனராக வலம் வந்த அட்லீ, பாலிவுட்டில் அறிமுகமான திரைப்படம் ஜவான். இப்படத்தில் பாலிவுட் பாட்ஷா ஷாருக்கான் ஹீரோவாக நடித்துள்ளதோடு தனது ரெட் சில்லீஸ் நிறுவனம் மூலம் இப்படத்தை பிரம்மாண்டமாக தயாரித்தும் உள்ளார். ஜவான் இந்திப் படமாக இருந்தாலும், இதில் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் ஆதிக்கம் அதிகமாக உள்ளது. 

அட்லீ தொடங்கி அனிருத், விஜய் சேதுபதி, நயன்தாரா, யோகிபாபு என மிகப்பெரிய கோலிவுட் படையையே இப்படத்தில் இறக்கிவிட்டு அழகுபார்த்துள்ளார் அட்லீ. இப்படம் தமிழ், தெலுங்கு, இந்தி, கன்னடம், மலையாளம் ஆகிய மொழிகளில் இன்று பிரம்மாண்டமாக ரிலீஸ் ஆகி உள்ளது. தமிழ்நாட்டிலும் இப்படம் அதிகளவிலான திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியாகி உள்ளன. இந்நிலையில், ஜவான் படத்தின் முதல் ஷோ பார்த்த ரசிகர்கள் தங்களது விமர்சனங்களை எக்ஸ் தளத்தில் பதிவிட்ட வண்ணம் உள்ளனர். அதன் தொகுப்பை தற்போது பார்க்கலாம்.

இதையும் படியுங்கள்....  அட்லீயை அட்டாக் பண்ண இத்தனை பேரா... இந்த வாரம் ஜவானுடன் மல்லுக்கட்ட தமிழில் இம்புட்டு படங்கள் ரிலீஸ் ஆகிறதா?

ஜவான் என்ன ஒரு அருமையான படம். ஷாருக்கான் ஒரு மாஸ்டர்பீஸ் படத்தை கொடுத்துள்ளார். கூஸ்பம்ப் காட்சிகள் நிறைந்த படமாக ஜவான் உள்ளது. விஜய் சேதுபதியின் நடிப்பு ரொம்ப நல்லாயிருக்கு. அனிருத்தின் பின்னணி இசை திரையரங்குகளை அதிரவைக்கிறது. இயக்குனர் அட்லீக்கு தரமான கம்பேக் படம். சந்தேகமே வேண்டாம் ஷாருக்கான் தான் பாலிவுட்டின் கிங் என பதிவிட்டுள்ளார்.

ஜவான் முதல் பாதி சூப்பர். குறிப்பாக சண்டைக் காட்சிகள் அனல்பறக்கிறது. இரண்டாம் பாதி முழுக்க முழுக்க கூஸ்பம்ப்ஸ் தான். ஷாருக்கானின் பிளாஷ்பேக் வேறலெவல். நயன்தாரா எண்ட்ரி, விஜய் சேதியின் நடிப்பு பங்கமாக உள்ளது. விஜய் கேமியோ இல்லை. அதே போல் எந்தபடத்தில் சாயலும் இல்லை இது தான் ஜவான் படத்தின் பிளஸ். நிச்சயம் பிளாக்பஸ்டர் ஹிட்டாகும் என குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

ஜவான் பிளாக்பஸ்டர். ஸ்டார் பவர், ஸ்டைல், பாடல்கள், பிரம்மாண்டம், சர்ப்ரைஸ் கேமியோ என அனைத்தும் கலந்த மாஸ் படமாக ஜவான் உள்ளது. 2023-ம் ஆண்டில் ஷாருக்கானுக்கு இரண்டாவது பிளாக்பஸ்டர் ஹிட் திரைப்படமாக ஜவான் அமைந்துள்ளது. அட்லீ அண்ணா நீ ஜெயிச்சுட்ட என பதிவிட்டு இருக்கிறார்.

ஜவான் முழுக்க முழுக்க ஷாருக்கானின் மாஸான சண்டைக் காட்சிகள் நிறைந்த படம். அதோடு ஸ்ட்ராங் ஆன எமோஷனல் டச்சும் படத்தில் உள்ளது. உறுதியாக இது பிளாக்பஸ்டர் ஹிட் ஆகும். யாராலும் இதை தடுக்க முடியாது என மார்தட்டி சொல்லி இருக்கிறார் நெட்டிசன் ஒருவர்.

ஜவான் மிகப்பெரிய பிளாக்பஸ்டர் படம். ஷாருக்கானை படத்தில் அட்லீ காட்டியுள்ள விதம் அருமையாக உள்ளது. பின்னணி இசை தெறிக்கிறது. ஜவான் மாஸ் தான் என அன்பைப் பொழிந்திருக்கிறார்.

புது கதைக்களம் இல்லை என்றாலும் திரைக்கதையும், கதாபாத்திரங்களும் அருமையாக உள்ளது. ஷாருக்கானுக்கு 2வதுப் 1000 கோடி லோடிங். விஜய் சேதுபதி கேரியரில் இதுதான் அவருக்கு சிறந்த வில்லன் கதாபாத்திரம். நயன்தாரா திரையில் கூடுதல் அழகு சேர்த்திருக்கிறார். தீபிகா படுகோனேவின் சண்டைக் காட்சியில் மெர்சலாக்கி உள்ளார் என பாராட்டு மழை பொழிந்திருக்கிறார்.

மேற்கட்ட விமர்சனங்களை பார்க்கும் போது இயக்குனர் அட்லீ, கத்துக்கிட்ட மொத்த வித்தையையும் பாலிவுட்டில் இறக்கிவிட்டார் போல தெரிகிறது. இப்படம் ஆயிரம் கோடி வசூலை நெருங்குமா என்பதை பொறுத்திருந்து தான் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.

Jawan Movie Review in Tamil:  ரெட் சில்லி எண்டர்டெயின்மெண்ட் நிறுவனம் தயாரிப்பில் இயக்குநர் அட்லீ இந்தியில் இயக்குநராக அறிமுகமாகியுள்ள படம் ‘ஜவான்’.(Jawan) இந்த படத்தில்  ஷாருக்கான், நயன்தாரா, விஜய் சேதுபதி, யோகிபாபு, தீபிகா படுகோனே உள்ளிட்ட பல நட்சத்திரங்கள் நடித்துள்ளனர். அனிருத் இசையமைத்துள்ள இப்படத்தில் ஷாருக்கான் இரட்டை வேடத்தில் நடித்துள்ளார். இந்த படம் பாலிவுட், கோலிவுட் திரையிலகில் பெரும் எதிர்பார்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ள நிலையில், இந்த படம் விமர்சனத்தை காணலாம். 

ஜவான் படத்தின் கதை 

இயக்குனர் ஷங்கர் படம் தொடங்கி ஏ.ஆர்.முருகதாஸ் படங்கள், விஜய் மேனரிசம் ஆகிய அனைத்தையும் தூசு தட்டி  பாலிவுட் திரையுலகின் ரசிகர்களுக்கு மட்டும் விருந்து படைத்துள்ளார் அட்லீ.

இந்திய எல்லையில் கதை தொடங்குகிறது. குற்றுயிராக மீட்கப்பட்டு ஊர் மக்களால் காப்பாற்றப்படுகிறார் ஷாருக்கான். உயிர் பிழைத்து வரும் அவர் தான் யார்? என்ற கேள்வியை எழுப்புகிறார். ( ஆமா... யாருப்பா நீ.. என்ற கேள்வி ரசிகர்களுக்கும் எழுகிறது)

அப்படியே 30 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு என்ற டைட்டில் போட்டு  தற்போதைய காலத்தில்  கதை தொடங்குகிறது. இந்த பக்கம் ஷாருக்கான் அவருடன் சேர்ந்த 6 பெண்கள் அடுத்தடுத்து அரசுக்கு எதிரான தவறுகளை தட்டிக் கேட்கும் இந்தியன் தாத்தாக்களாக மாறுகின்றனர். தங்கள் தேவைகளாக மக்களுக்கு அவசியமானதை கேட்கிறார்கள். இதனையெல்லாம் அரசாங்கமே செய்ய மறுக்கும் நிலையில் இதையெல்லாம் என்ன ஏதேன்று கேட்காமல் அசால்ட்டாக வில்லன் விஜய் சேதுபதி செய்கிறார்.

இதனிடையே ஷாருக் கூட்டத்தை பிடிக்கும் காவல்துறை அதிகாரியாக நயன்தாரா வரும் நிலையில், குற்றவாளி ஷாருக் தான் என தெரிய வருவதற்குள் இருவருக்கும் திருமணம் நடக்கிறது. திருமணம் நடந்த அன்று நடந்ததை சொல்ல ஷாருக் வர, அதற்குள் உண்மை தெரிந்து அவரை நோக்கி நயன்தாரா துப்பாக்கியை நீட்ட, அப்போது இருவரும் எதிர்பாராதவிதமாக வில்லன் கூட்டத்தால் தாக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்.  அங்கு ஷாருக்கை காப்பாற்ற வருகை தருவார் இன்னொரு ஷாருக்கான்.  இதன்பின்னர் இந்த இரண்டு ஷாருக்கான்கள் யார்?.. விஜய் சேதுபதிக்கும் இவர்களுக்கும் என்ன சம்பந்தம்? என்பதை 3 மணி நேரமாக படமாக கொடுத்திருக்கிறார் அட்லீ.

நடிப்பு எப்படி?

ஜவான் விக்ரம் ரத்தோர், போலீஸ் அதிகாரி ஆஸாத் என இரண்டு வேடங்களில் நடித்த நிலையில், அவற்றிற்கு வித்தியாசம் காட்ட முயற்சித்து இருக்கிறார் ஷாருக்கான். அவரின் நடிப்பு, டான்ஸ், ஆக்ஷன் காட்சிகள் அனைத்தும்  பொருந்தி போகிறது. குறிப்பாக பல இடங்களில் நடிகர் விஜய்யின் மேனரிசத்தை அப்படியே பின்பற்றுகிறார் (ரசிகர்களே சம்பந்தப்பட்ட அந்த விஜய் படங்களின் பெயர்களை சொல்வதை கேட்க முடிகிறது). அதேசமயம் நடிப்பில் மட்டுமல்லாது ஆக்ஷனிலும் ஷாருக்கானுக்கு இணையாக மிரட்டியுள்ளார் நயன்தாரா. ஷாருக் - நயன் 

பார்வையால், நடிப்பால், வசனத்தால் ஆங்காங்கே வில்லத்தனம் காட்டியுள்ளார் விஜய் சேதுபதி. அதிகாரத்தை கையில் எடுப்பது, பிரச்சினை வரும்போது டீல் பேசாமல் சம்பவம் செய்வது என பெரிய அளவில் காட்சிகள் இல்லாவிட்டாலும் கிடைக்கும் கேப்பில் ஸ்கோர் செய்துள்ளார். மேலும் தீபிகா படுகோனே, பிரியாமணி, யோகிபாபு ஆகியோர் சில காட்சிகள் வந்தாலும் நடிப்பில் குறைவில்லாமல் கேரக்டரை செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். 

ஜவான் படம் எப்படி?

பொதுவாக அட்லீ படம் என்றாலே பல படங்களின் இன்ஸ்பிரேஷன் இருக்கும் என்பது நம் அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். ஆனால் இதில் அவர் தமிழில் எடுத்த படங்களும், அவருக்கு பிடித்தமான விஜய் படங்களும்  இருக்கும் என்பதை படம் பார்த்திருக்க சென்ற ரசிகர்கள் கண்டிப்பாக  எதிர்பார்த்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள். இடைவேளை வரை நன்றாக செல்லும் கதை  அதன்பிறகு எங்கே போகிறது என தெரியாமல் நகர்கிறது.

கிளைமேக்ஸ் உட்பட பல காட்சிகள் "கண்ணாடியை திருப்புனா எப்பிடிப்பா ஆட்டோ ஓடும்" என்ற ரகமாக செல்கிறது. காட்சிகளில் இருக்கும் சுவாரஸ்யம் கொஞ்சமாது கதையில் இருந்திருக்கலாம். விரைந்து முடிக்க கூடிய கதையை இழுஇழுவென்று இழுத்து ரசிகர்களின் பொறுமையை சோதிக்கிறார்கள். படத்தில் ஜெயில் என்ற ஒரு இடம் காட்டப்படுகிறது. அது ஜெயிலா இல்ல டான்ஸ் ஸ்கூலா என கேள்வி எழும் அளவுக்கு அங்கு கைதிகள் செம ஜாலியாக இருக்கிறார்கள். படத்தில் 4 பிளாஸ்பேக் காட்சிகள் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 

படத்தில் குண்டுகள் எல்லாம் ஆங்காங்கே வெடிக்கிறது. ஆனால் யாருக்குமே பெரிதாக எதுவும் ஆகவில்லை. இதேபோல் லாஜிக் பார்க்கக்கூடாது என போர்டு வைக்கும் அளவுக்கு ஸ்டண்ட் காட்சிகள் சூப்பராக அமைந்துள்ளது. குறிப்பாக அந்த பைக் சேஸிங் காட்சி அட்டகாசமாக படமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆனால் அழுத்தமில்லாத, யூகிக்க கூடிய காட்சிகளை அடுக்கி ஜவான் மீதான எதிர்பார்ப்பை பொய்யாக்கி இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதே உண்மை.

படத்திற்கு பெரும் பலம் அனிருத்தின் இசை மற்றும் விஷ்ணுவின் கேமரா மட்டும் தான். ஆக மொத்தத்தில் பீஸ் இல்லாமல் பிரியாணி வைப்பது போல ஒரு படத்தை அட்லீ அண்ட் கோ கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

பின்குறிப்பு :   படம் பார்க்க செல்பவர்கள் இது ஒரு டப்பிங் படம் என்ற உணர்வுடன் சென்று மிகுந்த பொறுமையுடன் பார்க்கவும்.

ஜவான் Review: அட்லீ - ஷாருக் கூட்டணியில் மிரட்டும் மேக்கிங்... ஆனால் லாஜிக்?

வட இந்தியாவில் ஷாருக்கான் படம் வெளியாவது என்பது ஒரு திருவிழா போன்றது. தென்னிந்திய ரசிகர்களின் திரையரங்க கொண்டாட்டங்களுக்கு அவை சற்றும் சளைத்ததல்ல. இந்த முறை ஷாருக்கான் என்ற மேஜிக்குடன் தமிழகத்தின் அட்லீயும் சேர்ந்து கொண்டதால் பெரும் எதிர்பார்ப்பு தொற்றிக் கொண்டது. ரசிகர்களின் அந்த எதிர்பார்ப்பை ‘ஜவான்’ பூர்த்தி செய்ததா என்ற கேள்விக்கு ‘ஆம்’ என்ற பதிலை தாராளமாக சொல்லலாம். இனி வரும் விமர்சனத்தில் சற்றே ஸ்பாய்லர்கள் இடம்பெற்றிருப்பதால் படம் பார்க்காதவர்கள் படத்தின் கதைப் பகுதியை தாண்டிச் செல்லலாம்.

படத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில் இந்திய எல்லைப் பகுதியில் உள்ள ஒரு மலைக்கிராமத்தில் ஆற்றில் படுகாயங்களுடன் ஒரு நபர் அடித்து வரப்படுகிறார். ஊர் மக்கள் அவரைக் காப்பாற்றி உடல் முழுவதும் கட்டு போட்டு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கின்றனர். சில மாதங்களுக்குப் பிறகு ராணுவத்தினரால் ஊர் மக்கள் துன்புறுத்தலுக்கு ஆளாகும் சமயத்தில் படுத்த படுக்கையாக சுயநினைவின்றி கிடக்கும் அந்த நபர் வெகுண்டெழுந்து அந்த மக்களை காக்கிறார். அவர்தான் ஷாருக்கான். கட் செய்தால் 30 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு மும்பையில் மெட்ரோ ரயில் ஒன்றை மொட்டைத் தலை கொண்ட மர்ம நபர் ஒருவர் (ஷாருக்கான்), சில பெண்களின் உதவியுடன் கடத்துகிறார். மிகப் பெரிய ஆயுத வியாபாரியும் அரசாங்கத்தையே ஆட்டுவிக்கும் தொழிலபதிபருமான காளி கெய்க்வாட்டின் (விஜய் சேதுபதி) மகளும் அந்த ரயிலில் இருக்கிறார். இதனால் அந்த மர்ம நபர் கேட்கும் ரூ.40 ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாயை கொடுத்து விடுகிறார் காளி கெய்க்வாட். மறுநாள் அந்தத் தொகை அனைத்தும் நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள விவசாயிகளின் வங்கிக் கணக்குகளில் டெபாசிட் செய்யப்படுகிறது. பிறகுதான் தெரிகிறது அந்த மர்ம நபர் மும்பையில் உள்ள மகளிர் சிறை ஒன்றில் ஜெயிலராக இருக்கும் ஜெயிலர் ஆசாத் என்பது.

சிறையில் இருக்கும் சில பெண்களை பயன்படுத்தி நாட்டில் உள்ள சமூக பிரச்சினைகளை சரிசெய்கிறார். அவரை பிடிக்கும் பணி போலீஸ் அதிகாரியான நர்மதாவிடம் (நயன்தாரா) ஒப்படைக்கப்படுகிறது. இன்னொருபுறம் ஒவ்வொரு பிரச்சினையிலும் நேரடியாகவோ மறைமுகமாகவோ வில்லன் காளி சம்பந்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். முதலில் வந்த ஷாருக்கான் யார்? அவருக்கும் ஜெயிலர் ஷாருக்கானுக்கும் வில்லன் விஜய் சேதுபதிக்கும் இடையிலான தொடர்பு என்ன? நயன்தாராவால் குற்றவாளியை பிடிக்க முடிந்ததா? இதற்கெல்லாம் பதில் சொல்கிறது ‘ஜவான்’.

வழக்கமாக ஒரு அட்லீ படம் வெளியானால், அது பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு வெளியான ஏதோ ஒரு படத்தின் சாயலைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டு பரவலாக வைக்கப்படும். ஆனால், அதை திரையில் காட்டும்போது பார்வையாளர்களை சிந்திக்கவிடாமல் செய்வதே அட்லீயின் மேஜிக். அது இந்தப் படத்திலும் சாத்தியமாகியுள்ளது. இந்த படம் ஒன்று, இரண்டல்ல ஆறேழு படங்களின் கூட்டுக் கலவையாக இருக்கலாமோ என்ற சிந்தனை எழாமல் இல்லை. ஆனால், முந்தைய படங்களில் கைகொடுத்த அதே மேஜிக்கை இதிலும் பயன்படுத்தி மேக்கிங்கில் மிரட்டியுள்ளார் அட்லீ. பல ஆண்டுகளாக சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும்படியான வெற்றிப் படங்கள் இல்லாமல் வறண்டு கிடந்த பாலிவுட்டில் ‘ஜவான்’ மூலம் தனக்கென அழுத்தமான ஓர் இடத்தை பிடித்திருக்கிறார்.

படம் தொடங்கியது முதல் இடைவேளை வரை எங்குமே நிற்கவில்லை. மெட்ரோ ரயில் காட்சி தொடங்கி அடுத்தடுத்த காட்சிகள் வந்துகொண்டே இருக்கின்றன. லாஜிக் மீறல்கள், க்ளிஷேக்கள் இருந்தாலும் சில அழுத்தமான பின்னணிகள் அவற்றை பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளிவிடுகின்றன. ஷாருக்கின் அணியில் இருக்கும் பெண்களுக்கான ப்ளாஷ்பேக் காட்சிகளை உருவாக்கிய விதம் சிறப்பு. விவசாயம் குறித்து தமிழ் சினிமாவில் சக்கையாக பிழிந்திருந்தாலும் இதில் இயல்பாகவே எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. எந்த இடத்திலும் பிரச்சார நெடி இல்லை. சான்யா மல்ஹோத்ராவுக்கான ஃப்ளாஷ்பேக்கில் உ.பி.யில் ஆக்சிஜன் பற்றாக்குறையால் குழந்தைகள் இறந்த சம்பவத்தை இணைத்திருந்த விதம் அருமை. அந்தக் காட்சியும் நெகிழ்வான முறையில் படமாக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

மொத்தப் படமுமே ஷாருக்கானின் ‘ஒன் மேன் ஷோ’தான். 58 வயதிலும் படம் முழுக்க தனது ஸ்கிரீன் ப்ரெசன்ஸை அபாரமாக வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். ஆசாத் மற்றும் விக்ரம் ரத்தோராக நடனம், ஆக்‌ஷன் காட்சிகள், நகைச்சுவை என ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியையும் ஆக்கிரமிக்கிறார். படத்தில் அவருக்கான ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியையும் ஒரு இன்ட்ரோ காட்சியை போல பார்த்துப் பார்த்து செதுக்கியிருக்கிறார் அட்லீ. மெட்ரோ ரயில் காட்சி, இண்டர்வெல் காட்சி, இரண்டாம் பாதியில் வரும் கொள்ளை காட்சி ஆகியவை ஷாருக் ரசிகர்களுக்கு செம ட்ரீட். ஷாருக் - அட்லீ கூட்டணியில் இன்னொரு படம் உருவானாலும் ஆச்சர்யப்படுவதற்கில்லை.

இதற்கு முன்பு அட்லீ இயக்கத்தில் வெளியான ‘பிகில்’ படத்தில் நயன்தாராவுக்கு சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும்படியான கதாபாத்திரம் கிடையாது. ஹீரோவுடன் சும்மா வரும் கேரக்டர். அதற்கு நேர்மாறாக இந்த படத்தில் நயனுக்கு வலுவான கதாபாத்திரம். அதனை சிறப்பாகவே செய்திருக்கிறார். அவரது அறிமுகக் காட்சியே அதிர்கிறது. எனினும் சிறிது நேரமே வரும் தீபிகா படுகோன் - ஷாருக் கெமிஸ்ட்ரி அளவுக்கு ஷாருக் உடனான நயனின் கெமிஸ்ட்ரி பெரியளவில் எடுபடவில்லை. ஒரு சில காட்சிகளே வந்தாலும் தீபிகா படுகோன் ஸ்கோர் செய்கிறார். அவருக்கான காட்சிகளும் மிகவும் உணர்வுபூர்வமாக எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளன.

வில்லனாக விஜய் சேதுபதி சிறப்பாகவே செய்திருக்கிறார். ஆனால், அவரது கதாபாத்திர வடிவமைப்பில் புதிதாக ஏதுமில்லை. விஜய் சேதுபதி அலட்சியமான உடல்மொழியும், அவர் மேலும் சில நகைச்சுவையான வசனங்களும் பாலிவுட் ரசிகர்களுக்கு புதிதாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் வில்லன் பாத்திரம் இன்னும் புத்திசாலித்தனமாக எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தால் இன்னும் பேசப்பட்டிருக்கும் சான்யா மல்ஹோத்ரா, பிரியாமணி இருவரும் தங்கள் கதாபாத்திரத்துக்கு நியாயம் செய்துள்ளனர். யோகிபாபு எதற்கென்றே தெரியவில்லை. படத்தில் வெறும் ஐந்து நிமிடமே வருகிறார். விவசாய அமைச்சருக்கு தமிழில் குரல் கொடுத்திருக்கும் விடிவி கணேஷின் குரல் வரும்போது அரங்கம் அதிர்கிறது.

படத்தின் இன்னொரு ஹீரோ என்று ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் ஜிகே விஷ்ணுவைச் சொல்லலாம். தொடக்கம் முதல் இறுதிவரை படத்தின் ஒவ்வொரு ஃப்ரேமிலும் உழைப்பு தெரிகிறது. படத்தில் உள்ள குறைகளை மறைப்பதில் ஒளிப்பதிவும் பின்னணி இசையும் பெரும்பங்கு வகித்துள்ளன. அனிருத்தின் பாடல்களும் பின்னணி இசையும் படத்தின் பாசிட்டிவ் அம்சங்களில் ஒன்று. குறிப்பாக விக்ரம் ரத்தோர் தீம், ஒவ்வொரு ஃப்ளாஷ்பேக்கிலும் வரும் ஒரு சிறிய பாடல் ஆகியவை ஈர்க்கின்றன. படத்தில் பணியாற்றிய ஸ்டண்ட் இயக்குநர்கள் அனல் அரசு, சுனில் ரோட்ரிக்ஸ் உள்ளிட்ட ஆறு பேருக்கும் ஸ்பெஷல் பாராட்டு. ஒவ்வொரு ஆக்‌ஷன் காட்சியும் அனல் பறக்கிறது.

லாஜிக் மீறல்கள்தான் படத்தின் பெரிய குறை. என்னதான் காரணமாக இருந்தாலும் ரூ.40 ஆயிரம் கோடியை இவ்வளவு விரைவாக வாங்கிவிடமுடியுமா? அரசாங்கம்தான் வேடிக்கை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்குமா? விஜய் சேதுபதிக்கு எதற்காக இத்தனை சலுகை? அப்படி அவருக்கும் அரசாங்கத்துக்குமான டீலிங்தான் என்ன என்பதற்கு பதில்கள் எதுவும் இல்லை. அவர் சொன்னால் அதிகாரத்தில் இருக்கும் அனைவரும் செவிசாய்க்கிறார்கள். ஷாருக் - நயன்தாரா காதல் காட்சிகளில் ஈர்ப்பில்லை. ஒரே காட்சியில் அவர் ஓகே சொல்லிவிடுவதும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும்படி இல்லை. முதல் பாதியில் நயன்தாராவுக்கு வரும் ஒரு பாடலையும், இரண்டாம் பாதியில் தீபிகாவுக்கு வரும் ஒரு பாடலையும் பாரபட்சமே பார்க்கலாம் வெட்டியிருக்கலாம்.

அதுவரை சீராக சென்றுகொண்டிருந்த திரைக்கதையை க்ளைமாக்ஸில் ஜவ்வாக இழுத்தது தேவையற்றது. சஞ்சய் தத் கேமியோ, வாக்கு இயந்திரம் கடத்தல் என எங்கெங்கோ சென்று ஒருவழியாக படம் முடிகிறது. க்ளைமாக்ஸின் ஷாருக் பேசும் வசனங்கள் ஆச்சர்யம். உண்மையில் ஒரு மாஸ் மசாலா பாலிவுட் படத்தில் அரசை எதிர்த்து இவ்வளவு வெளிப்படையாக வசனங்கள் வைக்கப்படுவது மிகவும் கவனிக்க வைக்கிறது. க்ளைமாக்ஸில் ஷாருக் பேசும் அந்த வசனங்கள், அதற்கு முந்தையக் காட்சிகளின் இழுவையால் சோர்வு ஏற்படுத்தும் உணர்வை தவிர்க்க முடியவில்லை.

சில லாஜிக் மீறல்களையும், க்ளைமாக்ஸ் இழுவையையும் தவிர்த்துவிட்டு பார்த்தால் அட்லீயின் மிரட்டும் மேக்கிங், ஷாருக்கானின் அபாரமான ஸ்க்ரீன் ப்ரெசன்ஸ் என ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக ஒரு பக்கா ஆக்‌ஷன் கமர்சியல் சினிமாவாக வந்துள்ளது ‘ஜவான்’

‘Jawan’ Extended Cut Explained: How Different Is It From The Theatrical Cut Of The Shah Rukh Khan Movie?

Atlee’s Jawan , starring Shah Rukh Khan, was released theatrically on the 7th of September, 2023. It became an instant hit amongst fans and critics, and it went on to break all kinds of box-office records while receiving endless praise for its action, drama, and political commentary. I am not sure about every city in the country, but where I live, the movie is still available on the big screen. And, now that Netflix has premiered it digitally on SRK’s birthday, those who couldn’t take the trip to the theater and those who want to re-watch it for the umpteenth can view the film from the comfort of their homes. That said, as per Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment, it won’t be the theatrical version, but an “extended cut” of the film. It’s a bold claim because, at first glance, you’ll see a 5-minute difference between the theatrical and the extended version of Jawan . It’s only after you watch the entire thing that you’ll notice the incredibly subtle differences. Since I have done exactly that–thereby making this my eighth viewing of the film–allow me to discuss what has been added to the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, and whether it has earned its “extended cut” tag.

Spoiler Alert

The Health Minister’s Assistant, Pappu, Has A Change Of Heart

Precisely at the 1-hour mark, when Azad and his gang of girls brought the Health Minister to the dilapidated government hospital, we saw the minister being taken into the “operation theater,” while his assistant, Pappu, was stopped from going inside. Pappu was apparently still oblivious to the fact that what he was witnessing was actually a kidnapping. So, Ishkra had to state, in the most explicit manner possible, that the whole operation wasn’t a rescue mission. Hilariously enough, Pappu started crying, and Ishkra told him to shut up or get a bullet inserted into his skull. I don’t think Ishkra would have actually done that because she and her gang didn’t believe in killing anyone until it was absolutely necessary. Pappu was a slimy character, but he wasn’t the villain here; he was the one who needed to see who he was serving. When Pappu heard Eeram’s story and learned that the Health Minister was responsible for falsely imprisoning her, even though all she was doing was saving a bunch of children who were dying because of the minister’s unprofessional behavior, he told Azad and his gang to kill the minister. He promised that he wouldn’t tell the press and the government if the minister succumbed to his injuries or was suffocated with a pillow. Thankfully, it didn’t come down to that. There are many people like Pappu who blindly follow vicious monsters like the Health Minister and never question their actions. Yes, Jawan is optimistic that merely showing the consequences of a villain’s actions is going to convince someone like Pappu to do better. Real life is way different. But, hey, if a real-life version of Pappu comes to his senses after watching this film, it’s a win.

Lakshmi explains her backstory

I am sure many viewers at the theater were a little confused after witnessing glimpses of Lakshmi’s backstory as Vikram Rathore tried to revive her at around the 2-hour, 9-minute mark. I initially assumed that Lakshmi was a victim of the Bhopal gas tragedy. But the timelines didn’t quite match up. So, I just assumed that she was a victim of one of the many factories that belonged to Kalee Gaikwad. The extended cut of Jawan made it clear that Lakshmi was, in fact, a victim of the factory that was opened after getting Mr. Mukund Menon’s signature. Menon had warned Kalee about the danger that the factory posed, but Kalee didn’t listen to it, and that led to the deaths of Lakshmi’s children and many other families who lived around the factory. Lakshmi apparently approached Azad after that incident and joined his girl gang. That said, it’s still unclear how Lakshmi ended up in the Belamvada jail. All the other girls are supposedly criminals who have been wrongfully accused. Are we supposed to assume that Kalee and his lawyers blamed Lakshmi for the fire at the factory that led to so many deaths because she was one of the survivors? Was Lakshmi jailed for protesting against Kalee? I guess that’s a mystery that we have to live with.

Mr. D Threatens Kalee

At the 2-hour and 30-minute mark, Mr. D (my nickname for him is Darth Bane) called up Kalee after Azad forced the government to close down 13 of his factories. Kalee had promised Mr. D that he’d help him open the factories that Mr. D couldn’t launch in his own country due to environmental laws and protests. He had taken Mr. D’s money, too. That money was stolen by Azad and his gang. So, Kalee was obviously under a lot of stress. He was torturing Vikram and his team in the hopes that they’d buckle under all the pain and reveal the location of his cash. But Mr. D’s phone call forced Kalee to step things up, and he dangled the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning over Vikram’ team. I am assuming that Kalee was inspired by Mr. D’s strained breathing to resort to such a torture technique. By the way, Mr. D did say that he was as dangerous as the rumors say he was, but we don’t exactly get to see his villainy. We can predict that in the yet-to-be-announced Jawan sequel , Mr. D is going to go after Azad and Rathore for running away with the money that originally belonged to him. That said, he has to be really heinous because he has hyped himself up a lot. If he ends up being a damp squib, it’ll be really disappointing. 

Madhavan Naik Is Reprimanded At A Special Task Force Hearing

The theatrical cut of Jawan revealed that STF Officer Madhavan Naik was working with Azad throughout the movie, and he gave Azad the details of his next mission in Switzerland. At the 2-hour and 44-minutes mark, we see that Naik had to attend a hearing at the STF agency headquarters, where he was reprimanded by Kulpreet Mishra, Chandra Prabha, and Hitesh Sejal for making a mess of the Belamvada siege. Those who haven’t seen the theatrical cut and will be seeing Jawan in the form of the extended cut, they’ll probably assume that when Naik says that he is looking into the curious case of Azad Rathore, he actually wants to get his revenge. But it eventually becomes clear that Naik has the STF agency wrapped around his finger. Technically, he should’ve been fired after the botched job. However, he is such a decorated officer that the agency trusts him to pursue Azad. They are unaware of the fact that Naik is a vigilante, just like Azad, who knows that the system is never going to be responsive enough to bring about actual change. I don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up, but it’s possible that the sequel to Jawan will show how Naik and Azad became partners-in-vigilantism.

The Victims of Kalee’s Illegal Factory Are Compensated

At the 2-hour and 46-minutes mark, Naik says that the money that Azad and his gang had stolen from Kalee has been sent to the victims of the factory that killed Lakshmi’s family and several other families that lived in that locality. It does seem like an optimistic moment, but as the realization sets in that  that money probably belongs to Mr. D, those frames feel way more ominous. If Mr. D is as dangerous as he says he is, there’s a good chance that he’s going to go after these families because he knows that it’ll hurt Azad the most. These poor families will suffer all over again, thereby making Azad question his brand of vigilantism. FYI, this is just pure speculation, and it’s totally possible that those benefiting from Azad’s vigilantism will get their “happily ever after.”

Complete Versions of the Songs

The songs that were published on YouTube before the release of Jawan were “Zinda Banda,” “Chaleya,” and “Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya.” The theatrical cut of the film had different versions of all three of these songs, along with several other songs (that played in the background) and a music video called “Faratta.” “Zinda Banda” was cut short, and it had a cameo by Atlee. “Chaleya” was cut short, too, to accommodate the engagement ceremony. But the theatrical cut of “Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya” was longer than the one on YouTube. The “extended cut” of Jawan has the complete versions of all three of these songs. That’s it.

Is This Really An Extended Version?

Technically speaking, yes, this is an “extended cut” of Jawan . But an extended cut or a director’s cut of a film used to mean something different than whatever this is. I think you’ve all heard about the multiple versions of Blade Runner , Apocalypse Now , The Exorcist , The Wicker Man , Brazil , and most recently, Justice League . That’s because the version of these films that was released theatrically was probably more economical and took the test audience’s taste into consideration. If the director wanted to try something different, they were given the chance to re-edit the film. Then, all the different cuts were packed into a box and sold as a set, complete with commentary tracks and behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, so that viewers could get a complete idea about the making of the film and how editing can totally change the tonality of a narrative. Why am I bringing all this up? Because that’s what Atlee had promised in an interview with Pinkvilla! The man said that even though he was happy with the rhythm of the theatrical cut, he wanted to try a different vibe for the OTT version of the film. And, evidently, that was all a lie or a misdirection.

If you go through the trailers of the movie, you’ll notice at least four separate moments involving Kalee, Narmada, Lakshmi, and Jahnvi. Where are those scenes? Why aren’t they in the extended cut? Are they being kept in the locker so that they can be released as “deleted scenes” on YouTube? Not to sound like an old man, but back in the day, these deleted scenes used to be a part of the “extended cut” of a film. International movies that are still getting physical releases have the option to include all this stuff in their DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K packages. All India has are OTT platforms, and despite being the epitome of technological innovation, they can’t accommodate deleted scenes, commentary tracks, interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, etc. That’s why the studios aren’t interested in putting the time, effort, and money (that they are earning from the theatrical success of the film) to give viewers a 360-degree look at a film that has been loved by so many people. In conclusion, I don’t see this as an extended cut of Jawan . Studios have to do better to earn these labels. By the way, my issues with this particular trend (yes, Pathaan and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani have done this, too) don’t diminish my enjoyment of the film itself. I still think Jawan is one of the best movies of the year, and you should definitely check it out as soon as possible.

நேற்று வெளியான ஜவான் திரைப்படம் குறித்து ப்ளூ சட்டை மாறன் அளித்த விமர்சனம் இதோ:

‘‘படத்தோடு ஆரம்பத்தில் ஹீரோவும், அவருடன் 6 பெண்கள் சேர்ந்து மெட்ரோ ரயிலை கடத்துறாங்க. அதில் 300 பேர் இருக்காங்க. ஹீரோ சில நிபந்தனைகள் விதிக்கிறார். அதற்காக ஒரு ஆள் கேட்கிறார். அப்படி தான் அங்கு நயன்தாராவும், மந்திரி ஒருவரும் அங்கு வந்து சேர்கிறார்கள்.

‘40 ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் கொடுத்தால், இந்த ரயிலை விடுவிப்பேன்’ என்கிறார் ஷாரூக். அவ்வளவு பணத்திற்கு எங்கோ போவது என அரசாங்கம் கேட்க, ‘நான் சொல்ற ஆளிடம் கேளுங்க, அவருடைய மகளையும் சேர்த்து தான் பிடித்து வைத்திருக்கிறோம்’ என்று ஷாரூக் சொல்ல, பெரிய கார்ப்பரேட் வில்லனாக விஜய் சேதுபதியை காட்டுறாங்க. உடனே ஷாரூக் வங்கி கணக்குக்கு பணம் வருகிறது. அதை பல லட்சம் விவசாயிகள் வங்கி கடனை அடைக்கிறது. 

பிணையில் இருக்கும் பெண் ஷாரூக்கானை பார்த்து, ‘நீ ஒரு திருடன்’ என்கிறாள். ‘யார் திருடன்.. நானா திருடன்?’ என்று ஷாரூக் கூற, தன்னுடன் இருக்கும் 6 பெண்களில் ஒரு பெண்ணின் ப்ளாஷ்பேக்கை ஓப்பன் செய்கிறார். அவரது விவசாய தந்தை ட்ராக்டர் கடனை அடைக்க முடியாமல் தற்கொலை செய்கிறார். அதை சுட்டிக்காட்டி, 40 ஆயிரம் கடன் வாங்கிய விவசாயிக்கு இந்த நிலைமை, 40 ஆயிரம் கோடி கடனை வாங்கிய உங்க அப்பா, தள்ளுபடி வாங்கிட்டாரு. அதை தான் இப்போ வாங்கியிருக்கேன் என்று ஷாரூக் சொல்கிறார். 

எல்லாம் முடிந்து அவர்கள் அனைவரும் ஜெயிலுக்கு போறாங்க; என்னடானு பார்த்தா, அந்த ஆறு 6 பெண்களும் கைதிகள், ஷாரூக் தான் அதன் ஜெயிலர். இந்த படத்திற்கு தான் ஒரிஜினலா ஜெயிலர் என்று பெயர் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். ஜெயிலர் மாதிரி கூட இவர் இல்லை, ஜெயிலருக்கு ஓனர் மாதிரி இருக்காரு. 

இப்படி ஒரு ஜெயிலை பார்க்கவே முடியாது. படம் பார்க்கிற எல்லாரும் சொல்றாங்க, ‘இந்த ஜெயில் எங்கே இருக்குனு தெரியல.. நாமலும் இரண்டு கொலையாவது பண்ணிட்டு அந்த ஜெயிலுக்கு ஒரு முறையாவது போகணும்’ என்கிறார்கள். அந்த அளவுக்கு ஜெயிலர் குஜாலா இருக்கு.

அப்புறம் இன்னொரு பெண்ணின் ப்ளாஷ்பேக் வெளியாகிறது. அப்புறம் இன்னொரு பெண் கதை. அப்படா மூன்று பெண்ணின் கதை வந்துவிட்டது, இன்னும் 3 பெண்கள் இருக்காங்களே.. அதையும் தூக்கிட்டு வருவாங்க போல என பதறும் போது, இரண்டாவது பாகத்தில் வெச்சிருப்பாங்க போல.

ஒரே படத்தில் போபால் விஷ வாயு, விவசாயிகள் பிரச்னை, மருத்துவ ஊழல், ராணுவ ஊழல் பத்தி பேசுறாரு! அரசாங்கத்திற்கு எதிரான படம், ஊழலுக்கு எதிரான படம், இந்தியன் மாதிரி இருக்கும்னு பார்த்தா, வேறு ஒரு ரூட்ல போய் முடிக்கிறாங்க.

ஒரு கத்திரிக்காய் வாங்கப் போனால் கூட பார்த்து பார்த்து வாங்குறேல, 5 ஆண்டு உன்னை ஆளப்போறானை நீ பார்த்து தேர்வு செய்ய வேண்டாமா? என்று நம்மை பார்த்து கேட்குறாங்கே! ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்து ஒவ்வொரு சீன் வருவது, ஒவ்வொரு படத்திலிருந்தும் ஒவ்வ்வொரு சீனை எடுத்து வெச்சிருக்காங்கே.

நாம பார்த்த அத்தனை சீனும் இந்த படத்தில் இருக்கு. நாம பார்த்த சீன் தான் இந்த படத்துல வருதா, இல்லை போன ஜென்மத்துலவே இந்த படத்தை நாம பார்த்துட்டோமோ? அப்படி என்கிற பிரம்மை ஏற்படுகிறது. 

அட்லி எடுத்த படங்களே காப்பி, அதுல ஒரு காப்பி எடுத்து வெச்சிருக்காரு. என்னதால் பழைய சீனா இருந்தாலும், அதுக்கு திரைக்கதையாவது சுவாரஸ்யமா இருக்க வேண்டாமா? பார்த்தால் க்ரின்ஞ் தனமா எடுத்து வெச்சிருக்காரு. 

நயன்தாரா கதாபாத்திரமே என்னனு தெரியல! இவங்க சாதா விமனா? சூப்பர் விமனா? திடீர்னு ஷாரூக்கு பொண்ணு பார்க்க போனால், அங்கேயும் நயன்தாரா இருக்காங்க. பிரம்மாண்டம்னு சொல்லி, எங்கே பார்த்தாலும் ஒரே கூட்டம். கார் சேஸ் எடுக்குறோம்னு சொல்லி உயிரை வாங்குறாங்க. 

படம் முழுக்க சிரிக்கவும் வைக்கிறாரு, சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறாரு. அதாவது, ஒவ்வொரு சீன் பார்க்கும் ‘இந்த சீன் அந்த படத்தில் வந்திருக்கே.. அதுல வந்திருக்கே.. இது சீரியல் ஆச்சே.. அது வெப்சீரிஸ் ஆச்சே..’ என சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறார் அட்லி. கடைசியில் எங்களையே பார்த்து கேள்வி கேட்கிறார், ‘ஏண்டா.. அவ்வளவு யோசிக்கிற ஆளா இருந்தால், இந்த படத்துக்கு வருவமடா?’ என்று சிரிக்க வேண்டியதா இருக்கு. 

தயவு செய்து இந்த படத்தை ஓட வைங்க. சுயநலமா சொல்லல, பொதுநலமா தான் சொல்றேன். இந்த படம் ஓடினால், இவர் பாலிவுட்டில் சல்மான் கான், ஆரியன் கான் வரை எல்லார் கதையையும் முடித்துவிட்டு, அங்கே இருக்கிற ஆடியன்ஸ் எல்லாரையும் கிறுக்கு பிடிக்க வைத்துவிட்டு சுத்திட்டு இருப்பார். ஒருவேளை இந்த படம் ஓடவில்லை என்றால், ‘எங்க அண்ணனுக்கு நான் தாண்டா பண்ணுவேன்’ என மறுபடியும் கிளம்பி இங்கே வந்திருவார். அப்புறம் நம்ம நிலைமையை யோசித்து பாருங்க?,’’ என்று அந்த விமர்சனத்தில் ப்ளூ சட்டை மாறன் பேசியுள்ளார்.

Jawan Review: Strikingly Meta Vehicle Taps The Magnetism Of Shah Rukh Khan

Jawan review: in the final act, srk and vijay sethupathi (who is as brilliant as ever) square off in a scene that caps a magnificent crowd-pleaser that blends some sharp writing and a high level of technical finesse..

A young South Indian director with a 100 per cent success rate - every one of his four previous films has been a humongous hit - and a Bollywood superstar with an enduring fan following like nobody else's combine to unleash a Hindi mass movie that is as good as any we have seen in recent times.

Jawan , which also has Tamil and Telugu versions released nationwide, brings together the best of two worlds in a manner that borders on the delightfully frenzied and consistently captivating. Shah Rukh Khan, coming off the box-office record-smashing Pathaan, makes the most of a screenplay that has things to say and the wherewithal to making its pertinent points without losing its focus on the primary purpose of providing unalloyed entertainment.

Packed with all the ingredients that you would expect in a high-octane action film, Jawan is a strikingly meta vehicle in which a star communicates directly with his fan base and holds forth on themes that are crying out to be addressed. To that extent, it is somewhat like the 2017 Vijay starrer, Mersal, Atlee's third directorial venture.

In his first Hindi film, Atlee, who has written Jawan with his Theri and Mersal collaborator S. Ramana Girivasan, taps the magnetism of Shahrukh Khan and the spirit of the hot-button themes of the times in a superbly crafted potboiler that mixes big explosive action sequences with intimate emotional scenes.

Jawan tells the affecting story of a soldier without resorting to jingoistic bluster. If anything, the film does the exact opposite. It speaks up on behalf of the masses and touches upon issues that matter to people at the mercy of the politically and economically powerful.

Without naming names or specifying real-life parallels, Jawan weighs in on crony capitalism, bad loans, farmer suicides, neglected government hospitals, malfunctioning military weapons, election fraud and the plight of a citizenry stripped of access to resources that are rightfully theirs.

Jawan turns the spotlight on apathetic ministers, falsehood-peddling politicians and incompetent and compromised bureaucrats, none of whom are willing to be held accountable for a rotting system. The film delivers its message with great flair but without succumbing to gratuitous grandstanding.

Who is better equipped to do all this than SRK, who, even when he plays a larger-than-life action hero on a mission to take down a powerful industrialist who has wronged him and his nation in more ways than one, can stay rooted in the real world and animate the canvas with humanity even as he projects an invincible, superhero-like persona?

Jawan , produced by Gauri Khan under the Red Chillies Entertainment banner, erases the line that separates the actor playing a fictional figure and the star engaged in a conversation with his audience. The latter is inevitably one-way but as one watches the film in a packed hall its resonance with significant swathes of the audience is palpable.

SRK carries off the onerous task with such phenomenal panache that one barely notices when one entity gives way to the other. The narrative is never in danger of losing its balance even as the performer and the character shorten the distance between them.

On one level, Jawan  is a fan service masala film. On another, it is a tale of revenge that is also a political statement, and a loud and clear one at that. Jawan ends with the hero looking straight into the camera - it is positioned in a way that represents the eye of the audience - and tangentially echoing what SRK's character had said more than once in the action-comedy from a decade ago, Chennai Express ("Don't underestimate the power of a common man").

Ask questions, seek answers and use the power of your vote wisely, he exhorts the audience with all the solemnity that he can muster following an act of daring that compels the head of state to accept his demand to intervene.

Jawan opens in a hilly village on India's border - the exact location isn't specified - where a badly wounded soldier is nursed back to physical health. A few months later, he springs to the defence of the hamlet when it is attacked by a band of murderous infiltrators. He repels the aggressors but the brave warrior does not remember who is. A little boy who he saves from certain death promises to find out when he is old enough.

The film cuts to three decades later. A Mumbai Metro train with more than 300 passengers is hijacked by a group of six women (played, among others by Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya) and an ageing man (Shahrukh Khan) in the guise of an Army Captain. He demands that he will negotiate only with one particular police officer, Narmada Rai (Nayanthara, who hits all the right notes).

The parleys over the next few minutes brings an unlettered agriculture minister and a wealthy businessman, Kali Gaekwad (Vijay Sethupathi), into the picture. At one end of the spectrum, we hear the story of a farmer (Omkar Das Manikpuri) forced to kill himself because he has defaulted on a Rs 40,000 loan for a tractor. At the other end is the case of a bank waiving off an industrialist's Rs 40,000 crore loan.

The captain's first encounter with the law gives way to scenes in a woman's prison where he reappears as a jail warden, Azad, a man who has revolutionised life for the inmates with boldly progressive initiatives. The jailer, with the help of six women who have suffered at the hands of those who wield power, is determined to change how the prison - and the nation - functions.

The first half of the 170-minute film is fast-paced and replete with stylishly executed fight sequences and a track that witnesses Azad and Narmada, a single mother, entering into wedlock. Post-intermission, Jawan recounts the story of Azad's birth, the fate of his mother (Deepika Padukone in a memorable special appearance) and his relationship with the former women's prison jailer Kaveri (Riddhi Dogra).

The flashbacks out of the way, the film returns to the thick of the action around the villainous tycoon whose misdeeds extend to trying to influence the electoral process with money power. The hero and his supporters fan out to stop the baddie and his accomplices in their tracks.

In the chase sequences in the run-up to a rousing climax, director Atlee and his team pull out the stops and come up eye-popping action passages. In the final act, SRK and Vijay Sethupathi (who is as brilliant as ever) square off in a scene that caps a magnificent crowd-pleaser that blends some sharp writing (the Hindi dialogues by Sumit Arora are almost always on the ball) and a high level of technical finesse.

Jawan hits the bull's eye both as a movie that is out to entertain and a vehicle that demonstrates the power of a superstar endowed with a voice that is anything but ordinary. It manifests itself as much on the screen as it does outside its fictive confines.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan  resumes his much-anticipated comeback with “Jawan” (Hindi for “Soldier”), a high-toned action-adventure about a well-meaning terrorist and his crack team of hostage-taking girls with guns. 

Khan’s revival began a year ago with a prominent cameo in the otherwise meh mythofantastic superhero pic “ Brahmastra  Part One: Shiva .” Then in, January, he stormed the box office with the lead role in “ Pathaan ,” a manic spy thriller and the most recent installment in the Yash Raj cinematic universe. “Jawan” will probably delight Khan’s established fans, and maybe uninitiated viewers, too, if only because he’s comfortably playing the hits, now with somewhat greater conviction and a little more polish.

“Jawan” was produced by the star and his wife Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment production company, so it’s not surprising to see how well-worn and carefully navigated the movie’s contrived plot and conventional mood swings tend to be. This is a Shah Rukh Khan vehicle, and by now, that conjures certain formulaic expectations. Still, the makers of “Jawan” spend a little too much trying to convince viewers that we don’t  really  know Khan’s mysterious antihero, who, after an overproduced but still rousing flashback action sequence, takes a train-ful of commuters hostage. 

Khan’s character, soon revealed to be Azad, the warden of a women’s prison, seemingly executes a woman in a burqa, all while wearing a goofy bald cap, which he soon rips off. Khan, in character, rasps out his expectations-flouting demands to the generically incensed negotiator Narmada (Nayanthara): get the Agriculture Minister to pay off starving farmers’ extortionate loans, or more people will die.

“Jawan” careens from one twist to the next, fast enough that it almost doesn’t matter how familiar and ultimately staid its story and set pieces often are. A few plot twists are also easy enough to anticipate. Azad romances Narmada and charms her impressionable ten-year-old daughter Suji (Seeza Saroj Mehta). He denounces various government officials and combats their corruption with a handful of bloody, media-amplified demonstrations. Azad speaks for the common people but behaves erratically, performing a little soft-shuffle dance surrounded by terrified commuters. He proudly and laboriously explains that he’s actually a good guy fighting the real enemy: public servants who do not serve the republic.

There’s an involved and agreeably goofy subplot that ties Narmada and Azad’s story with the movie’s opening scene, set 30 years prior in an unnamed village that may or may not be Tibet (somewhere near “India’s border,” terrorized by Asian soldiers in white star-studded green caps). If you’ve seen Shah Rukh Khan movies before, you won’t be especially surprised at how these two subplots tie together, though you may be delighted anyway. It’s a major plot twist that predictably takes over the back half of the plot and re-orients Azad’s plot so that viewers know that this time, unlike all the other times, it’s personal. 

This time, there’s a nefarious weapons dealer, Kalee (Vijay Sethupathi), who is as malicious as he is violent. There’s also a surprise cameo from a big Bollywood star, whose presence isn’t really a spoiler if you pay attention during the opening credits. And be on the lookout for a duet dance number led by Khan and Deepika Padukone, who have great chemistry, possibly because they know that, by now, they don’t have to really compete for viewers’ affection. Oh, and a couple of the fight scenes are maximalist show-stoppers despite being over-edited and under-directed. Loud and rote, sure, but never boring.

The main reason “Jawan” doesn’t deliver more than what Khan has previously delivered is because its creators seemingly included every masala-style subplot they could think of. Still, “Jawan” is unlike Khan’s last two comeback trail stops because its creators are better at navigating its many hairpin twists and turns. Kudos to director Atlee, a former assistant director whose credits include the Rajinikanth vehicle “Enthiran” and its sequel “ 2.0 ,” and his creative team.

Most importantly, in “Jawan,” Khan looks more relaxed than in years past, toggling leisurely through his repertoire of tics and poses. He looks especially comfortable in undemanding musical numbers, and he still gives great Blue Steel looks every time he turns on a slow-mo heel to pout at viewers’ and/or co-stars. Shah Rukh Khan is still a star, baby, and “Jawan” uses him about as well as his fans might hope.

Khan even looks good delivering a corny but impassioned speech later in the movie. As Azad, Khan reminds us that he’s just like you and me, the apathetic public who, despite our best intentions, have not always exercised good judgment when voting for government officials. There’s a general election in India next year, and while the makers of “Jawan” could have otherwise taken bigger risks, their efforts are appreciated.

Jawan Review: What critics, public think of Shah Rukh Khan's latest outing

Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan which is also a production venture of his home banner Red Chillies Entertainment, released in theaters worldwide today i.e. September 7, 2023 in Hindi, Tamil (dubbed) and Telugu (dubbed) languages. The movie comes with a runtime of 2 hours 46 minutes and early reviews from critics and the general public have been mostly as per expectations.

Jawan marks the Bollywood debut of Tamil director Atlee and the film also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt, Sanya Malhotra, Priya Mani among others. The movie has Atlee, S. Ramanagirivasan for screenplay, Anirudh for music, GK Vishnu for cinematography, Spiro Razatos, Anl Arasu, Craig Macrae, Yannick Ben, Kecha Khamphakdee, Sunil Rodrigues for action and Ruben for edits.

Jawan review: A hard-hitting commercial entertainer that reflects the sorry state of affairs in the country

While there are portions that appear cinematic, the core plot is solid and therefore, one is able to relate to the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer.

Through Jawan , director Atlee delivers a hard-hitting film that not only entertains but also attempts to shine a light on the distressing state of affairs in the country.

It looks to highlight a series of problems in different departments — from banking to farming to public health systems to faulty equipment being provided to our jawans.

Without much delay, let’s see what the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer is all about:

A group of six women led by a man who calls himself Vikram Rathore (Shah Rukh Khan) hijacks a metro train in Mumbai and demands that the authorities transfer over ₹40,000 crore to an account number.

However, the minister of agriculture who is summoned by Rathore to the negotiation tells him that the government cannot pay such a huge ransom. To this, the latter says a businessman whose loans the government has waived off will offer to pay the whole ransom himself as his daughter, too, is one of the hostages.

As predicted by Rathore, businessman Kali (Vijay Sethupathi) offers to pay the amount. The money that Vikram Rathore gets as ransom is used to waive off the loans that small farmers across the country have borrowed.

And, this is just the beginning!

Vikram Rathore and his team of six girls embark on a series of unlawful activities with the motive of doing good to the general public.

Each time, Vikram Rathod and his girls target and strike a different department, the man at the receiving end is invariably Kali.

Kali, who has a limited education, believes in waiting for an appropriate time to hit back at Vikram Rathore.

Meanwhile, we learn that Vikram Rathore is actually Azad (Shah Rukh Khan), the jailer of a women’s prison in Mumbai.

Interestingly, Azad ends up getting married to Narmada (Nayanthara), the chief negotiator and the cop who is assigned the task of capturing Vikram Rathore.

Eventually, she manages to find out Vikram Rathore’s true identity. At the same time, Kali, too, decides that “enough is enough” and chooses to finish off Vikram Rathore.

What happens then is worth watching on the silver screen.

Crisp direction.

Atlee cleverly comes up with a plot that touches on almost all the core issues that the common man faces today.

While the first episode is about the issue of over 10,000 poor farmers committing suicide because of being unable to repay farm loans, the next is about the pathetic state of government hospitals and how politicians lie about having provided state-of-the-art infrastructure to such facilities.

The third episode is about the poor quality of arms provided to our armed forces. The fourth is about polluting factories and the final one is about the significance of voting for the right person.

While there are portions that appear cinematic, the core plot is solid and, therefore, one is able to relate to Jawan .

The film not only entertains but also seeks to create awareness about the distressing state of affairs in the country, ending by stressing the need to vote responsibly.

Performances.

The film boasts of some fantastic performances starting with Shah Rukh.

The Bollywood Badshah plays two roles in the film — as father Vikram Rathore and son Azad.

Shah Rukh scores handsomely as the Jawan Vikram Rathore. Sharp and stylish, he delivers a commanding performance even in his aged get-up.

Vijay Sethupathi as Kali impresses us. However, this isn’t Vijay Sethupathi’s best performance as his role offers him limited room to perform.

Nayanthara as Narmada comes up with another solid show. She owns her character and comes up with a realistic performance.

Jawan also has a fine performance coming from Priyamani who, after a long time, gets a meaty role to showcase her acting skills.

The movie also has neat performances from five actresses who play Shah Rukh’s team members.

On the technical front, Anirudh’s background score is fantastic and Vishnu’s visuals are breathtaking and a big plus to the film.

On the whole, Jawan is a proper commercial entertainer that works because of the important issues it touches upon.

Jawan Review: Shah Rukh Khan Dazzles in this Cocktail of Guts and Masala

A mass movie is a vessel, but it’s an empty one without the liquid to hold. Masala is hot, but it’s only ground dust without the dish. The ‘hero-entry moment’ is a legacy, but it’s only a stranger striding in slow-mo if we don’t know who he is. Atlee’s Jawan – a film I’d have watched in back-to-back morning shows if I didn’t have to write this review – celebrates the identity of this stranger. He is an overflowing vessel, but he’s also the dish of the year. When he asks “Main kaun hu? (Who am I?),” it’s a question in the shape of a reminder. The reminder is not just trapped by the big screen. It’s everywhere – it’s in his name, his narrative, his fatherhood, the interviews he’s stopped doing, the loyalty of his fans, the cheekiness of ‘Ask SRK’ Twitter sessions, the venom of his trolls, the boycott hashtags, the stoic nationalism, and a decade-long comeback in the making. If Pathaan was the first line of that reminder, Jawan is the whole punchline. And what a punchline it is.

Jawan (“soldier”) is not just any social drama. It’s a drama based in a country so embattled that the only mantra left is: When in doubt, Shah Rukh Khan . The leaders have failed, the system is corrupt, and a superstar has decided to take matters into his own hands. This intervention is disguised as one of the most enjoyable, pulpy, ditzy and progressive entertainers in recent memory. It’s Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000) with swag, Rang De Basanti (2006) with zero shame, and Ghayal (1990) on steroids. It’s anti-establishment rage with pro-people hope. It’s hard to write a single line of plot without spoiling the experience. So let’s just say that Khan in Jawan signifies the sort of happy-hour vigilantism that’s immensely satisfying to see. He’s a soldier and a jailer, a patriot and a saint. And he is fed up. Every time he appears, it’s a hero-entry moment – and there are at least ten of these. (I may or may not have hooted at the coolest pre-interval scene in ages; if you listen closely, you might almost hear Khan growl: Who’s your daddy now? ). Which is to say that things are so bleak today that Khan needs to be introduced – and remembered – multiple times. He needs to be there, even when he’s not. And he needs to keep arriving, by hook or by crook, as hero and antidote, as enforcer and protector.

Between Fact and Fiction

In other words, being fiction isn’t enough. In Jawan , the singularity of storytelling wears the plurality of life. For instance, the Robin Hood theme is timeless but also pointedly current. When a hijacking happens, the protagonist – who loves old Bollywood songs – pretends to be a baddie, and his first target is a burqa-clad passenger. Later, a woman is falsely charged and jailed for drug use; she takes the fall for government apathy. When a skirmish at the border goes wrong, soldiers become pawns in a political scam that leaves the army with faulty weapons. It’s all there: Farmer suicides, fumbling ministers, a shortage of oxygen cylinders, a billionaire who funds the government. It’s no surprise that electronic voting machines (EVMs) and an impending election play a key role in the premise, too. There’s a back-from-the-dead and memory-loss track, a nod to the fact that a (movie) soldier has had to rediscover his stature as a secular icon. There’s an all-female team of avengers – an ode to Khan’s unique image as both a feminist hero and beta-male lover – and an aspirational women’s prison that reframes the cage as a container of pent-up potential. All alleged flaws – a bandaged face, a bald head, middle age, pregnancy out of wedlock, macho cigar-smoking (which almost taunts the “cigarettes are injurious to health” disclaimer) – morph into superhero capes. When politicians are reduced to caricatures who transform at the drop of a hat, it’s not lazy writing. The rush suggests that the film perhaps has no time for figures who generally have no time for the people that vote them in. 

I’m usually not a fan of film-makers being in awe of the stars they cast. But Atlee’s blinding reverence for Shah Rukh Khan and his Daddy era (as well as Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi ) works wonders for the film. The lovesick treatment (Level: Hrithik Roshan in War ) ensures that when the director fast-forwards through the romance, flashbacks, climax and reaction shots in a hurry, our excitement is rooted in the anticipation of the next punchy scene. And the next, and the next. It stops mattering that the connective tissue is a formality, or that tears are used as narrative shortcuts. Everything else is a footnote, a filler in service of bold messaging, at a time when even silence is viewed through the lens of dissent.

More is Better

The directness of this courage (especially a monologue towards the end) is moving, because it reveals the cards of a film that isn’t afraid to request its viewers to reflect rather than tell them to think. Its activism is almost chivalrous, despite the loud tone. It doesn’t hesitate to break the fourth wall and use its commercial packaging – replete with the contradictions of a weak soundtrack but a terrific score, wanton violence and pan-Indian emotions – to reason with the very concept of democracy. Add to this the colour – like a delightfully unhinged villain, a cheetah chilling at a high-scale meeting featuring a Bane-styled billionaire, a vertically challenged henchman pulling his gigantic colleague as they record a video – and Jawan becomes an irresistible cocktail of guts and mainstream glory.

Most of all, the subtext is there for everyone to savour. The thrill of watching a Shah Rukh Khan film has long been defined by his uncanny ability to make it about himself. Over the years, he’s renovated the idea of celebrity narcissism, turning it into meta-entertainment at the movies. Khan has often let his life – or at least popular perception of his life – inform the spirit of his roles. Our enjoyment is derived from the illusion that we’re watching him as much as the men he plays. Earlier, this auto-fiction was limited to excavations of his own superstar duality ( Duplicate, Om Shanti Om, Fan, Ra.One, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi ). But it’s only as an action hero that this self-reverence has gone from entertainment to art. The genre physicalises (and mythologises) Khan’s journey, pitting him against real-world demons instead of imaginary people. While it’s natural to wonder why he took so long to do all-out action cinema, the timing is perfect – his underdog swag can now afford to be personal and political at once. It can be aggressive and kind at once. 

As a result, his heroes aren’t fighting against, they’re fighting for. The “bete ko haath lagane se pehle baap se baat kar (before threatening the son, deal with the father)” threat in Jawan brings the house down for a reason. The flashback of his character stars a child who resembles a young Aryan Khan in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), for a reason. A Lion King reference (Khan and his son voiced Mufasa and Simba in the Hindi version of the 2019 live-action remake) hits home, for a reason. None of it is grandstanding or self-homage anymore. Within the defiant parameters of action cinema, it acquires the grammar of self-expression. The fight is literal; the scale is fitting. It becomes more . And Jawan is that more. It understands that cinematic truth isn’t about logic but pop-cultural authenticity. It gets that mass is weightless without a sense of matter. And it proves that masala film-making isn’t about giving the audience what they want; it’s about asking them what they need.

Atlee worked as an assistant to director Shankar who is widely known as a big budget director. Atlee, who made everyone to look back at him with his first film, then teamed up with Vijay. Theri, Mersal and Bigil were super hits in Vijay-Atlee collaboration.

As a result, Atlee, who is in Vijay's good book, has become one of Thalapathy's favorite directors. Atlee, who has shown mass in Kollywood so far, has now directed Jawan with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Nayanthara, Yogi Babu, Priyamani and others, this film is releasing today (September 7).

Atlee To Enter Hollywood

Jawan is expected to give Atlee a good entry in Bollywood. In this case, it is not yet known which hero Atlee is going to direct after Jawan. Atlee, who spoke at Jawan Promotional event, opened up about his next project. Confirming that Vijay is not acting in Jawan, Atlee said that he will soon direct both Vijay and Shah Rukh Khan in the same film.

#Jawan the best booking is in south India, due to presence of #ShahRukhKhan and galaxy of South Indian stars in the film.
