It's somewhat limited depth.

Doesn't provide much about why an answer is incorrect.

Mathematics can be one of the most challenging courses for students, with complicated steps that are quickly forgotten after a long school day.

Especially challenging is that many parents struggle to help their children with subject matter that they haven't been acquainted with for years. Photomath is an excellent solution for struggling mathematicians.

Children can scan complex or simple math problems, learning how to solve them with step-by-step instructions. A built-in calculator improves the experience, allowing for smart, on-the-fly calculations and 2D graph plotting abilities. Linear equations, logarithms, trigonometry, functions, and basic algebraic expressions are only a few of Photomath's vast capabilities.

Great music learning app.

One school subject that is sadly overlooked is music. If your child is trying to learn a musical instrument and struggling, consider investing in Yousician. This app allows students to practice guitar, bass, piano, or ukulele.

Students can practice their instruments along with the charts and diagrams that display on the screen. They'll receive real-time feedback when they miss a note or fall out of tune. Included step-by-step video tutorials are available to show your child how to be proficient in a specific skill set.

Practicing an instrument has never seemed so natural. With different genres of music available, your child can quickly sort out their favorites.

Quizlet Flashcards

Digital flashcard platform suitable for all ages.

The focus on memorization is ideal for studying.

The ad-supported platform may be distracting.

Quizlet digital flashcards allow students of all ages to practice and excel at various topics using their smartphones. In addition to basic flashcards, Quizlet offers multiple modes to encourage different methods of memorization.

If your child attends the same class as another student using Quizlet, the two can share flashcards. Those who use the app to study foreign languages can hear keywords spoken to them in 16 languages.

PowerSchool

Parents/guardians can monitor child's education.

Access to handouts, attendance records, etc.

Complicated interface.

Steep learning curve.

Here's an app that both children and parents can enjoy: PowerSchool Mobile. Many school districts use the PowerSchool system to manage grades and reports. If your child's school is a participant, you can use the mobile app to keep a close eye on your child's educational progress.

While not every school offers support for the PowerSchool Mobile application, it is worth checking with your child's teacher to see if the option is available. Depending on how a teacher chooses to use the tool in their classroom, you may also have access to handouts, attendance records, school bulletins, and more.

In addition to keeping up with teacher-provided classroom documents and updates, parents can manage what push and email notifications they receive from the child's school. This simple mobile app can help parents become more involved and aware of their children's school performance.

10 best English learning apps for Android

Published on June 8, 2022

This is the featured image for the best english learning apps for android

English is a complicated but popular language. It’s one of the most popular languages in the world, in fact, and it’s prevalent in many countries. Learning English is a bit tough but rewarding because you can use it almost anywhere. There are a surprising number of apps to help people learn English. They fall into a few different categories. You have your full learning experiences like Memrise or Drops, practice apps like HelloTalk or Tandem, and then phrasebook-style apps like Simply Learn English. We have a mix of all three below. You probably already have at least a little bit of knowledge if you found your way here and can read this whole paragraph. So here are the best English learning apps for Android!

The best English learning apps for Android

  • Drops: Learn English

Hello English

Google translate, learn english phrases, simply learn american english.

  • Tandem and HelloTalk

Price: Free / $69.99 per year

Busuu screenshot 2022

Busuu is a popular language-learning app. It also supports English from a variety of other languages. It uses somewhat traditional methods. You learn grammar, spelling, words, phrases, and conversational English. The app also includes accent training and it’s one of the few good offline English learning apps. It’s a tad expensive for its yearly subscription. However, you do get a decent amount of content for free to get yourself started. The app itself is about the only other potential issue. It has its quirks, but it is functional.

Drops: Learn American English

Price: Free / $7.49 per month / $48.99 per year / $109.99 once

Language Drops actually has two English learning apps. One is for British English and the other for American English. That’s a nice choice to have. The app uses an aggressive vocabulary method. It doesn’t teach as much grammar. Instead, it teaches conversational English and you learn the grammar yourself as you go. It also includes offline support, games, and a variety of subscription tiers and prices. These are fairly decent apps, especially for those who don’t have a ton of time to study every day.

Price: Free / $9.99 per month

Duolingo screenshot 2019 final

Duolingo is one of the best free English learning apps. It supports well over two dozen languages in total and English is one of them. Duolingo uses a fun method for teaching. You do a bunch of grammar and vocabulary lessons disguised as games. Thus, it’s a little more colorful and fun than the more serious apps like Mondly, Memrise, and others. The bite-size lessons also make it great for quick learning sessions over your lunch break. This is definitely one of the English learning apps we recommend first to people.

Price: Free / Up to $15.99 per month / Up to $99.99 per year

EWA screenshot 2022 1

EWA is an excellent app for learning English. It has an appealing UI, various levels of learning, and it works in small chunks, so it’s great for learning on the go. Additionally, the app offers over 1,000 books to help you practice your English reading skills. Some of the other tools include 40,000 flashcards, various learning techniques, and it’ll even use things like a TV show or movie snippets to teach you more. The entertainment aspect seems to keep people engaged while they learn. The only downside is the expensive monthly subscription. Definitely go for a longer term to save yourself a bunch of money.

Price: Free / $8.99 per month / $29.99 per year

HelloTalk screenshot 2021

Hello English is a popular app for learning English. It lets you learn the language from 22 other languages. That should work for most people. The app features 475 lessons, offline support, a 10,000-word dictionary, and teachers to assist you. It also uses some fun teaching methods, like daily news, audio and video clips, and even ebooks. People seem to really like this one and it worked well during our testing. The subscriptions are also fairly reasonably priced, although we recommend a year subscription as it is vastly cheaper.

Price: Free / $1.99-$4.99 per month / $21.99-$29.99 per year

HelloTalk is one of the more interesting English learning apps. It uses a social network of sorts to teach. You pair up with other individuals. They teach you their language, and you teach them yours. The exchange helps with conversational English, vocabulary, and even grammar. The app supports over 100 languages and also includes voice calls, video calls, text messages, picture messages, and audio messages. We recommend using this as a secondary form of study. This, with something like Duolingo, should get you most of the way there without too much of a hassle.

Price: Free

google translate is one of the best English learning apps for android

Google Translate is an excellent app for language scholars and travelers. The app has three main features that make it really useful. The first is your standard text-to-text translation. It works with 103 languages online and 59 languages offline. The app also translates speaking in real-time. This is an excellent tool for practicing your vocabulary and diction. Finally, you can point the camera at stuff. The app translates the stuff on camera in real-time as well, and that works great for menus, street signs, etc. Google Translate is free, and anyone learning a second language should have it. Microsoft Translator ( Google Play link ) is also surprisingly good for learning languages as well.

Price: Free / $4.99

Learn English Phrases is one of the best english learning apps

Learn English Phrases is a simple, accessible app for learning English. This one works best as a phrasebook or reference guide. It has a bunch of English words and phrases along with American and British pronunciations. You can also record your own voice and hear how you sound. This is also one of the better offline English learning apps, even if it works better as a study aid. This, along with another app like Duolingo or Busuu makes for a really good combination.

Price: Free / $9 per month / $59.99 per month

Memrise is one of the most powerful and popular language learning apps. It supports a variety of languages and also English. Memrise is a community site, and it uses a lot of different teaching methods. That includes your basic vocabulary and grammar lessons along with games, conversational English, a pronunciation guide, and a lot more. It even has offline support. It’s a little more expensive than most. However, there is enough content here to keep you busy for a long time. Mondly is another app with support for English that works pretty well.

Price: Free / Up to $7.99

Simply Learn is one of the best american english learning apps

Simply Learn American English is a very simple app. However, this one is most useful as a phrasebook. The premium version contains over 1,000 words and phrases across 30 categories. The free version gets about 300. The app also includes audio pronunciations, quizzes, and flashcards for easier study. This is an excellent secondary study aid when paired with a more serious app like Busuu, Duolingo, or Memrise. It also works offline in case you wanted to know.

Price: Free / $6.99 per month / $34.99 per year

Tandem screenshot 2022

Tandem is a community app for learning languages. It’s very similar to HelloTalk. You pair with people, teach them your language, and they teach you theirs. The app supports voice and video calls along with pictures, text, and audio messages. It supports over 150 languages. Thus, it shouldn’t be difficult to find a pair. Tandem even offers professional tutors. You can also pick the topic you want to study more on any particular day. It, along with HelloTalk (which is very similar in both scope and premise), works great as a secondary learning platform alongside your main one.

Overall Best English Learning Apps

The apps included in this category cover just about all aspects of English to some degree. If you’re a beginner looking for a comprehensive resource to start out with, this category is for you. Common features include lessons that build on each other as well as interactive exercises which are essential in English learning.

Best for Oral Communication Skills

best english homework app

Compared to most of the apps on this list, Pimsleur has been around for a very long time. Its tried-and-true method uses audio lessons to teach listeners their target language. You’ll hear native English speakers right away and will be asked to start speaking right away as well. Especially for aural learners, this app can give you a head start with spoken English. As a tradeoff for the mostly-audio content, learners won’t acquire much in the way of reading or writing skills here. There aren’t really any grammar explanations either. The idea is that you’ll pick up all the grammar you need while actively listening to and producing the language. Courses are available for speakers of fourteen different languages.

See our Super-Detailed Pimsleur Review

Best for Structured Courses

best english homework app

This is another very popular language-learning platform. It offers English courses in six languages and teaches through explanations and interactive exercises. The biggest appeal with this app may be how well the course is structured. Lessons are thorough and build on each other in a way that makes for natural and effective progress. You’ll be exposed to everyday language, short dialogues, and native speaker audio, all of which are accompanied by explanations. The app’s stylings may not be the most exciting, and there might not be anything revolutionary going on, but the no-nonsense approach seems to work for many.

See our Super-Detailed Babbel Review

Best Test-Prep App

best english homework app

English proficiency is a valuable skill in both the professional and academic worlds. In both of these contexts, English ability is often measured by way of standardized tests, whether it’s for admission to an English-speaking university or for a position at a company that requires skills in the language. Magoosh helps learners prepare for nine important exams, ranging from IELTS to LSAT. The platform allows users to progress at their own pace and includes video lessons, timed practice questions, vocab flashcards, progress tracking, a competitive feature, and more. It’s one of the most popular solutions for learners looking to leverage their English ability in the professional world.

See our Super-Detailed Magoosh Review

Best for Interactive App Content

Rocket english.

best english homework app

The Rocket Languages series is fairly popular and is known for providing decent language courses, though we don’t think any of them are outstanding. The English course is taught entirely in English, meaning you’ll need some of the basics to actually get started.

Best Immersion Approach App

best english homework app

Yabla is a language-learning platform that uses videos with interactive subtitles and language games to help users learn a language. It’s currently available on the web and for iOS, with an Android app in development. Its videos are of varying difficulty levels and types, and are either sourced from the internet or originally produced, but all videos use native speakers.

See our Super-Detailed Yabla Review

Apps for Practicing Reading and Listening

Reading and listening might not seem all that impressive compared to speaking and writing, but they are equally as important. They are known as receptive language skills because they usually involve receiving information. The apps in this category will help you improve your listening and reading comprehension through focused practice and interaction with authentic content.

Best Podcast-Style Lessons

Englishclass101.

best english homework app

EnglishClass101 is brought to you by Innovative Languages, a language instruction company with courses in a range of different languages. Their courses are known for being full of useful material and for the energetic native-speaking hosts, and the English lessons are no different. There are podcasts available for all levels, starting with some solid beginner lessons. In addition to teaching the language, these podcasts offer valuable cultural insights and some extra features like quizzes and vocabulary practice. You’ll also get exposure to both American and British English.

Best Side-By-Side Reading Practice

Beelinguapp.

best english homework app

Beelinguapp is a solid option for getting good reading practice. It takes a unique approach to helping learners read English by presenting a translation of the text side-by-side with the original. You can toggle the translation on and off, but having a translation of the full text so easily accessible while you read is super helpful. There’s also a “karaoke function” which highlights text as it’s read aloud for listening practice. There’s a variety of content available on the app and new material is always being added. 13 languages are currently supported in the app.

Best for Authentic Content

best english homework app

One of the most exciting things about learning a new language is being able to interact with authentic content, whether it’s music, movies, or interviews on interesting subjects. In addition to being exciting, exposure to authentic native speech in a language is also a powerful way to speed up your journey to fluency. FluentU and Yabla both use videos with interactive subtitles to make this possible. FluentU has a higher price point, but it’s got a nice interface and a subscription grants access to multiple languages.

See our Super-Detailed FluentU Review

Compared to FluentU, Yabla is the less expensive of the two, though English is the only language you’ll be able to study if you sign up for a subscription. The course also offers a greater variety of exercises to accompany the videos than FluentU.

Best Reading Content

best english homework app

LingQ and Readlang are resources that work really well for getting interesting reading practice. LingQ is an app that makes translating unknown words as you read very easy. It also keeps track of which words you know and which words you have to look up, using this information to color-code the text you’re reading. It’s cool to be able to visualize how difficult a given piece of reading will be. One of the reasons there’s interesting content on LingQ is that uploading your own content is quite easy.

See our Super-Detailed LingQ Review

best english homework app

Readlang is a free browser extension that works well on mobile devices and does many of the same things as LingQ.

Apps for Practicing Speaking and Writing

Speaking and writing are productive language skills and maybe more exciting. Being able to communicate your thoughts and ideas in English for the first time can be thrilling, and reaching advanced levels in speaking and writing can open lots of doors both professionally and personally. The apps mentioned below will be most useful for improving these skills.

Best for Speaking English from Day 1

Best for pronunciation practice.

best english homework app

Good pronunciation is one of the most important aspects of speaking a language — all the vocabulary and grammar in the world won’t help you if no one can understand what you’re saying. Unfortunately, it can also be one of the hardest to perfect. Getting personalized instruction from an instructor may be the most effective way to practice, but apps like Elsa Speak are leveraging technology to make practice more accessible. The basic version of Elsa Speak is free, and it uses voice recognition technology to provide detailed feedback on your pronunciation. Record yourself reading example sentences to see what individual sounds you need more practice with and take focused practice lessons.  Save 10% on a subscription to ELSA Speak with the coupon code ‘ALRELSA’.

See our Super-Detailed ELSA Speak Review

Best for Pronunciation Feedback

best english homework app

Like Elsa Speak, this app’s focus is helping learners improve their pronunciation. They both provide detailed feedback but take a different approach. Speechling provides even more personalized instruction by involving real teachers. Record yourself speaking English and submit the recording for a native English speaker to evaluate and provide feedback. Practice happens through mimicking exercises, and you can send a limited number of recordings to be evaluated each month for free. A subscription to the platform allows you to submit an unlimited number of recordings.  You can save 10% on a subscription with the coupon code ‘ALR123’.

See our Super-Detailed Speechling Review

Best for Writing Feedback

best english homework app

This popular platform is probably best known for being an online tutor directory with literally thousands of available English tutors. It’s also, however, got some nifty extra features. One of these is its Exercise feature, which is available for free in the italki app. It’s one of several community features and is a great place to get feedback on writing of any kind from native English speakers. To use the feature, simply write something and post it for the community to see. You can write anything you like as long as you’re comfortable with sharing, but there are also prompts to help you get started. Other users will then have the chance to read what you wrote and provide corrections and feedback. The system works well and it doesn’t usually take long to get a response. Learn English Vocabulary with Apps

When we think about learning a new language, vocabulary is usually the first thing that comes to mind. After all, what is a language if not words? The apps in this next category will help you learn new words, know how to use them, and commit them to long-term memory.

One thing to look for in vocabulary apps is a spaced repetition system (SRS), which makes memorization and retention of new vocabulary more efficient.

Best for Learning Words in Context

Clozemaster.

best english homework app

Both Clozemaster and Lingvist use SRS flashcards to teach English, and they present new language items in context sentences. This is helpful for seeing new words as they’re actually used in English and helps learners get accustomed to the flow of the language. Clozemaster is mostly free, and it’s the more game-like of the two. There’s an arcade feel, leaderboards, points, and levels to keep things interesting. Translations are available in more than ten languages, but it’s not best for absolute beginners.

See our Super-Detailed Clozemaster Review

best english homework app

Lingvist is like Clozemaster’s grown-up cousin, although much less of it is available for free. The interface is slick, and there are actually some language explanations to go along with the material. You’ll also be able to get some extra practice in the form of challenges that test various language skills. Instructions are available in nine languages.

See our Super-Detailed Lingvist Review

Most Enjoyable Vocabulary Practice

best english homework app

Gamified flashcards and SRS are part of what makes this app so popular. It’s also popular for the fact that there are tons of courses available for free. The official Memrise courses for English require a paid subscription for full access, but they come with videos of native speakers and high-quality audio. The free, user-created courses are of varying quality, but there are certainly some good ones available. There are so many that you should be able to find one to suit just about any difficulty level. You’ll also be able to study specific language related to certain grammar points or categories and be able to choose between US and British English.

See our Super-Detailed Memrise Review

Best Vocabulary App for Kids

best english homework app

This app is aimed at teaching kids aged 2-8 years old, but parents can certainly learn along with their children. The curriculum focuses on building vocabulary through engaging games that will catch the attention of kids. The app also aims to teach skills beyond English, such as critical thinking and collaboration. The basic version of this app is completely free and includes three games, songs, or videos each day. With a paid subscription, you’ll have access to the full library of content as well as a progress tracker and offline capability.

Tutors and Language Exchanges

Another important method to learn and become proficient in English is interacting with other people that speak English. This can be challenging if you don’t live in an English-speaking country or just don’t have anyone to connect with. Fortunately, as with just about everything else, there are apps that try to solve this problem for people. Below are a few apps that make it easier to interact with English-speaking individuals.

Best for Finding a Tutor

italki is a fantastic online tutor platform that connects learners to language teachers. For English, there are well over 4,000 tutors available. Each teacher sets their own schedule and price, meaning you’ll have almost unlimited flexibility in finding a teacher that suits your needs. You’re also able to filter results by type of class as well as where your teacher is from or what other languages they speak. italki also has some neat community features that are free to use in the italki app. You can ask questions about your target language, get writing corrected, and message other language learners that are interested in language exchange. Right now get a $10 credit with your first purchase.

Best for Casual Conversation Practice

best english homework app

If longer lessons aren’t what you’re after, or if you want the ability to pick up your phone and start talking with a native English speaker at a moment’s notice, Cambly might be more your speed. The app also lets users schedule classes with their favorite teachers once they’ve found some favorites. The flexibility is the main draw here, along with inexpensive one-on-one tutor time and loads of authentic speaking practice. Classes can take pretty much any form depending on your level and whether you’re looking for more structure or general conversation practice; you can even study for IELTS or TOEFL exams.

Best for Language Exchange

best english homework app

HelloTalk and Tandem make it easy to get in touch with native English speakers no matter where you are in the world. Language exchange happens on the apps via text, audio messages, and even video calls. The platforms have active communities of language learners that are ready and willing to help you practice English in exchange for help with a language that you’re proficient in. The built-in language tools are an integral part of these apps — they make it possible to communicate with an English speaker even with a low level of English. They also turn the experience into an efficient learning opportunity. HelloTalk’s free version is all most people will need, although it limits the number of translations you can use in a day. The app is more playful and may appeal more to learners that enjoy emojis when it comes to aesthetic.

See our Super-Detailed HelloTalk Review

best english homework app

Tandem connects language learners with native speakers, which makes finding language partners a breeze. It is mostly similar to HelloTalk in functionality, but they each have their own aesthetic. Tandem is a little bit slicker and might be right for someone looking for an app that’s more serious. The app also offers a tutoring service apart from its chat capabilities and language tools.

See our Super-Detailed Tandem Review

Maybe Try These English Learning Apps

The apps below didn’t make our list of favorites for studying English, but they’re still worth considering. This is also where we’ve included extra popular resources that we aren’t necessarily fond of and those that we just haven’t tried out yet. You might find the right app for you in this section.

Busuu is known for quality courses (except those teaching Asian languages), a really nice interface, and a cool social feature that’s free to use. Its English course is available in 11 different languages.

See our Super-Detailed Busuu Review

Like edX and Coursera, this is an online platform boasting tons of courses in English and for learning English. Udemy is different because courses are created by anyone and they aren’t free. The quality can vary significantly from course to course, so it’s worth checking out reviews to find the right one. It’s also worth waiting for a sale if you’re interested in a course (they’re frequent and significant!).

Lingodeer is something like a more mature Duolingo. They both offer language practice through gamification and interactive activities, but Lingodeer’s courses tend to be a bit more thorough and have better audio. The English course on Lingodeer is available in Chinese.

See our Super-Detailed Lingodeer Review

Mango Languages

One of Mango Language’s subscription options grants users access to over 70 languages, including English taught in over 20 languages. You can even learn Shakespearean English if that’s what you’re after. You can also pay less if you only need access to one language. The app is easy to use and has a slick design, but it’s really only useful for learners below an intermediate level.

See our Super-Detailed Mango Languages Review

Mondly provides English instruction in more than 25 languages, but we think there are better apps to choose from. The design and course material aren’t the best we’ve seen, and you won’t get much practice producing the language. Still, it’s inexpensive and could potentially serve as a basic first-exposure to English.

Best Free(mium) Apps for Learning English

This category features free and freemium apps for learning English. If you want to get your daily dose of English vocabulary and grammar while on a budget, we have our Bargain Basement options below.

Best Free Gamified App

best english homework app

This is surely one of the most popular language apps for learners of just about any language. The gamified approach to teaching and the fact that it’s totally free make it incredibly appealing. The app is easy to use, and the exercises are all short enough to pick up whenever you’ve got a spare moment. Duolingo also excels at motivating users with frequent reminders to practice. While its convenience is a major appeal, it’s worth noting that it won’t take you all the way to fluency on its own. Grammar explanations are present but aren’t detailed and don’t play a central role in instruction. You’ll also see nonsensical sentences and won’t get much in the way of pronunciation or speaking practice. Still, it’s an easy way to get exposure to English and build some basic vocabulary. Courses are currently available in over 20 languages.

Best Free Audio Course

This one’s for Spanish speakers looking to learn English. The app is totally free (there aren’t even ads) and provides thorough instruction via 40 audio lessons. The lessons take a close look at the similarities between Spanish and English, using the relationship between them to outline a unique way of thinking about English. There are no games, pictures, or videos with this app, but some may really appreciate how straightforward the app is. For Spanish speakers looking to develop a solid foundation in English, this free app is a fantastic place to start.

The complete app is available in English, Spanish, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, though there is also supporting material available in Italian and Arabic.

Best Dictionary App

This is one of the most versatile and comprehensive multi-language dictionary apps out there. It makes it easy to perform translations in a wide range of language pairs with extensive dictionaries, and it’s free. It also has an active language forum where learners can get answers to nuanced questions or for language they can’t find in a dictionary. There are also some WordReference extras that add some value to the resource. It’s got a Word of the Day function that teaches new words each day at varying difficulty levels and a verb conjugation tool. There are also English usage and collocation dictionaries available.

Best Customizable Flashcard App

This app can do just about anything you want it to when it comes to memorization practice. It’s an SRS flashcard app that’s lightweight, powerful, and totally customizable. You can create flashcards with images, audio, example sentences, and tags, as well as program how many new items you’d like to learn each day. There is a bit of a learning curve with Anki — its design definitely puts function over form. For those that aren’t interested in spending the time to create their own decks, there are also plenty of  premade decks  for studying English. Anki is free most places but costs $25 in the Apple App Store.

Best Mini-Games

Improve english: word games.

best english homework app

With activities like Space Pursuit, Jelly Fizz, Panda’s Trail, and Fly High, this app takes gamification to a new level. Participate in bite-sized activities to get enjoyable English practice whenever it’s convenient for you. Though the focus here may be on making English practice fun, the app doesn’t fall short on educational value. There’s a Vocabulary Builder feature available for learners at different levels, idiom practice, grammar exercises, IELTS test-prep, and even games for practicing math. There’s a reason this one’s got over three million downloads and a high rating in app stores.

Coursera is an online platform that offers access to structured and quality university courses for free and works similarly as edX.

best english homework app

edX is an online learning platform that offers free university courses. A certificate is usually available upon completion for a fee. The platform offers the structure and quality you can expect from a university course while allowing learners to progress at their own pace. Course topics vary widely; take one of the various English language courses or one on another topic that’s taught in English.

Best for Quick Questions

best english homework app

In your journey learning English, you’ll inevitably come across some hard-to-answer questions. While there’s no shortage of quality online resources to answer most questions learners have, there are some things you simply can’t look up in a dictionary or conjugation table. Maybe you’re interested in the subtleties of Australian slang, or you’ve got a question about daily life in the southern United States. HiNative aims to be the place to go for all of these questions, and it makes for a pretty convenient solution. The app is mostly free to use and lets you post questions for native speakers to see and respond to. The HiNative community is active and usually quick to respond.

  • Google Play rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

When it comes to handling homework, Google’s very own suite of apps can be really useful. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are here to help out. In the case your homework is some sort of presentation, well, Google Slides are the way to go.

You can use these tools as an alternative to the Microsoft Office suite of apps, as these apps are completely free, and they automatically save your work online. These apps won’t exactly directly help you solve some issues with your homework, but it will help you deliver it, and will also help you to correct some mistakes along the way. All three of these tools are excellent, it only depends on what you need to do for your homework.

The last app on the list is called simply ‘HomeWork’, interestingly enough. This app can be a great help when it comes to organizing your school assignments, and homework organization is at the forefront of it. The design of the app is very graphic, and that’s a good thing. The app is really enjoyable to use. You can create really nice-looking timetables with this app, and also utilize the calendar view, if you want.

It will help you keep track of everything you need to do. The app does focus on timetables, which is arguably the best way to organize your daily assignments. The HomeWork app also delivers several homescreen widgets you can choose from, so you can keep an eye on your schedule at all times. This app does come with ads, by the way, but you won’t find any additional in-app purchases here.

Various other reminders are included in the app, and the UI looks great. Classify actually uses a lot of color for in the app, but that’s a good thing in this case. body-homework-chalkboard

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

exclamation-point-g8c97d47db_640

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

body-gold-piggy-bank-money

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

Best Agenda App

I’ve tried a few apps like this in the past and they were alright. I even tried a physical notebook but that’s not as convenient or useful as this. It’s simple, professional, and just a great design overall. I love the calendar, it’s a great feature to see the little dots. absolutely amazing. And I love how you can put notes in the individual assignment and organize them by classes/color and type of assignment. The notes in the assignments are so helpful idk. Like another review said, i wish there was something for repeated assignments. Also it would be cool if we could pick any color we wanted in hex you know. A cool feature would also be like a reminder type thing. Just something where you can pick a time for it to send you some notification for a specific assignment. Or what about being able to pin assignments to the top? Those are just ideas idk. This app is great and I’ve never had trouble with it. I love the little click buzz thing idk how to describe it when you complete an assignment it’s so satisfying now. I always recommend this app to everyone i know because of how much it helps me. To be honest it was kind of hard to get into at first but now i’ll be checking it in each class to make sure everything is up to date. Thank you to the developer(s) and great job!

Great but I would add a few things

This is a great app. It’s very useful. However, I would add something where you could put in the time something is due. Like in the same section for a due date, a spot for times. Then instead of just organizing by date, it could organize by what is due when. (Like something due 1st period vs 7th period would be in the same slot usually, but I want them to say the time and be in order of that.) For example, sometimes my teachers will have something due by the start of class, the end of class, the end of the school day, the start of the school day, or even midnight. Something due 1st period at the start of class would be better at the top of the section then something due at midnight. I’d also add different notifications. For example, today, I got the notification, “6 assignments due tomorrow.”. This isn’t entirely true. I have 2 tests, a quiz, and 3 assignments due tomorrow. Yes, I put them as the correct types of things. It would just be nice for it to say something more like ‘2 tests, 1 quiz, and 3 assignments due tomorrow’ instead of ‘6 assignments due tomorrow’. I’d even add another type of item, such as a ‘reminder’ section. This would help in that i could put ‘Band Rehersal’ or ‘Ask such&such a question’. This isn’t necesary-if you add any of my suggestions, then please do the first 1 or 2 before this one. Thank you for considering my suggestions!

Really Great, only one thing

This app is amazing and is so helpful! For the past couple of years I’ve hopped back and forth planners and different homework apps but never stuck with one more then a couple of months because it was ok but not good enough. This app however is a lot easier to use, notifies me how many assignments are due the next day, it lets me view my assignments as a whole or individually. The calendar is also a very nice feature. Most apps I’ve used have one but the nice thing about this calendar is that 1. It shows me the little dots on what days I have homework and 2. The dots are color coded to whatever color that class has. The only thing that I would like to see is recurring assignments. I have to do French homework every Friday for the entire year, however I can’t seem to make it so I can tell the assignment to repeat every day, week, month, etc. and it’s kinda irritating that I either have to create a brand new assignment every week or make them all at once or go back to a planner or my reminders that come with the phone. If that could be added this app would be PERFECT 👌 that and maybe some personalizations around the app like themes and profile pics too.

The lessons are short and simple. After you finish them, you get feedback from ELSA immediately. This feedback helps you understand what you need to practice. ELSA isn’t a replacement for an online English tutor, but it’s certainly a helpful (and less expensive) tool for improving your pronunciation. • Easily determine your speaking level
  • Immediate and detailed feedback

Why You Should Use Apps To Learn English

The Best Homework Apps For iPhone and iPad

By Justin Meredith 0 comments Last updated February 26, 2021

Today, we get to write about everyone’s favorite subject: Homework . More specifically, we’re going to talk about homework apps for iPhone and iPad.

Of course, most of us don’t actually get excited about homework. It’s boring, stressful, challenging, time-consuming, and lots of other adjectives that none of us like too much.

I hope, however, that by sharing some of these apps with you, you’ll be able to alleviate some of the negativity that’s attached to assignments. I’ll cover apps to help you schedule, solve, save, and prepare for your homework.

Let’s get started!

  • 1. myHomework: The ultimate homework planner
  • 2. Mathway: Get step-by-step solutions to your math homework
  • 3. Class Timetable: A beautiful way to view your class schedule
  • 4. Wyzant: Find a great tutor at a moment’s notice
  • 5. IELTS Essays: Take the pressure off of your essays
  • 6. Microsoft Lens: Save your notes, assignments, instructions, and more
  • 7. The Homework App: An alternative to myHomework
  • 1. Khan Academy: The ultimate learning resource
  • 2. Google Docs: Collaborate, write, and take notes for free
  • 3. Microsoft OneNote: The ultimate note-taking app for typed notes
  • 4. Wolfram Alpha: Every calculator ever in a single app
  • 5. Stack Exchange: Get answers in advanced subjects
  • 6. Apple Notes: The best note-taking app for handwritten notes

Start using the best homework apps for iPhone and iPad

The best homework apps for iphone.

First, we’re going to cover homework apps for iPhone. Many of these apps are available on iPhone and iPad, so be sure to download them to your device of preference.

I’m separating these apps based on how I suspect most of us use our iPhones vs. how we use our iPads. In other words, I’m going to be focusing on scheduling, calculating, and saving your homework on iPhone with the following apps.

Let’s start with a classic.

1. myHomework : The ultimate homework planner

myHomework is without a doubt the most popular homework app there is. If you only take one thing away from this article, it’s to download myHomework. I used this app through college and wish I had discovered it in high school.

best english homework app

myHomework combines your assignments and your class schedule into a single app. This allows you to use it to see when assignments are due, when classes are coming up, and how these two things relate to each other.

Even better, you can link assignments to your classes. And you can color-code your classes, too. This means that you’ll easily be able to see when assignments are due, what class they’re due for, and you can check these things on all of your devices (including a computer). You can even schedule recurring assignments and set reminders.

2. Mathway : Get step-by-step solutions to your math homework

Mathway is a great example of a tool that would only be possible in today’s day and age. It allows you to take a picture of your math homework (in any level or area of math) and instantly receive the answer.

While that’s a convenient way to get your homework done, it’s also not so great for learning. This is why Mathway also provides you with step-by-step directions on how to solve the problem. If you miss class, didn’t take enough notes, or are simply struggling to understand certain concepts, this can be a lifesaver.

Mathway even has a chatbot that you can interact with. You can ask it about certain types of problems, for definitions, and much more. It should be noted, though, that you’ll need to subscribe to the app for anything more than just getting the solution to a problem. If math is a major part of your coursework, however, it’s well worth the subscription.

3. Class Timetable : A beautiful way to view your class schedule

Like myHomework, Class Timetable allows you to enter your classes into a schedule and view them in a calendar. Unlike myHomework, however, you can view your courses in a much more visual and pleasing layout.

best english homework app

Rather than just listing out your classes and their times, Class Timetable shows you a visual calendar where your classes are represented by blocks. You can see how long classes are compared to one another in an instance and quickly see where your free time lies.

Class Timetable offers notifications, exporting, and more. It’s one of the prettiest apps for keeping track of your classes and can help you plan out your day way faster. It’s one of the best looking homework apps for iPhone to be sure.

4. Wyzant : Find a great tutor at a moment’s notice

As someone who has since left college, one of the resources I woefully ignored was tutoring. I was worried about embarrassing myself, admitting that I was struggling, and my grades suffered as a result.

This is why I think it’s super important for high schoolers and college students to use an app like Wyzant. Wyzant is like Yelp for tutors. You can quickly find tutors in your area, see their reviews, and message them to set up a meeting.

Wyzant hosts tutors for students in kindergarten through college. They even offer tutors for PSAT, ACT, SAT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and more. In other words, you’ll find someone who can help. And getting that help is so important that I had to include this on this list of homework apps for iPhone.

5. IELTS Essays : Take the pressure off of your essays

As someone who now writes for a living, I can confidently tell you that apps like IELTS Essays are a godsend. You can use this app and others like it to get past writers’ block and make essay writing less daunting.

best english homework app

IELTS Essays is an app that provides you with tips, advice, and examples for your essay writing. You can use it to come up with a response to a prompt, see how you should structure your essay, and brainstorm ideas.

The app even helps you outline your essay and polish your introduction. It’s a pretty simple app, but if you’re new to essay writing, the simple stuff can go a long way. It’s deserving of a spot on our best homework apps for iPhone.

6. Microsoft Lens : Save your notes, assignments, instructions, and more

Unlike everything else on this list of homework apps for iPhone so far, Microsoft Lens was not made specifically for homework. I doubt too many users even use it for this purpose. But I loved using it in college.

If you don’t know, Microsoft Lens is a simple app that allows you to quickly scan documents into your phone. You just point the in-app camera at a sheet of paper or whiteboard and snap a pic. It’ll automatically crop the image so that all you can see is the document. You can tweak the crop if you like as well as use it to edit photos in your Photos app.

You can save the photos you take with Microsoft Lens to your Photos app, Files app, export them as PDFs, and more. There are other apps like Microsoft Lens ( read here ) but Microsoft Lens is the one that’s stayed on my phone for years.

7. The Homework App : An alternative to myHomework

Ok, so I still think that myHomework is one of the best homework apps for iPhone. However, there are alternatives, and I’d be remiss not to suggest any. Just in case you end up not liking myHomework.

best english homework app

The Homework App is very similar to myHomework, with some slight adjustments. First, I think it’s a huge visual improvement. It looks way better, is much simpler, and all-around looks like an app made in 2021.

Second, The Homework App allows you to break your homework up into subtasks. For a basic assignment, this might not seem like a big deal. But when you’re working on a project that takes weeks and maybe even has graded milestones, this is an appreciated feature.

Third, you can add your instructors’ details to each of your assignments. This makes this app more of an all-in-one tool; you won’t be flipping back to your notes so often.

I recommend trying this out alongside myHomework and seeing which one better suits your needs.

The best homework apps for iPad

Next up, we have the best homework apps for iPad. As mentioned, these are going to differ slightly from the homework apps for iPhone, even though many of these apps are also available on iPhone.

In this list, I’ve tried to include apps related to note-taking, research, and studying, as I feel like these tasks are better suited to iPad users.

1. Khan Academy : The ultimate learning resource

First up on our list of homework apps for iPad is one of my favorite apps of all time: Khan Academy. If you don’t know what Khan Academy is, it’s a free education resource for pretty much everything. Any subject, question, course, or problem most likely has a resource on Khan Academy.

best english homework app

Khan Academy is a completely free app filled with lesson plans and video tutorials on everything. From basic math to calculus to chemistry to programming to English, there are Khan Academy courses that will teach and test you.

One of the best parts of Khan Academy is that it doesn’t care about grading you – its goal is to teach you. So it’ll keep helping you through a subject until you achieve mastery, not necessarily a good grade.

If you need a free alternative to a tutor, learn something new, or just keep your skills sharp, download this app.

2. Google Docs : Collaborate, write, and take notes for free

You probably already use Google Docs, but I couldn’t help but mention it in a homework context. If you already have a Google Account, then you already have free, unlimited access to Google Docs. It’s a robust word processor that you can use on all of your devices.

What makes Google Docs so great, though, is that it’s cloud-based. This means all of your assignments, notes, and essays are stored online for free. You’ll never lose the files. And you won’t be stuck using Apple Pages or Microsoft Word.

Additionally, Google Docs allows you to collaborate with other users on a doc in real-time, remotely. That means two people can be editing the same doc without needing to be in the same place. Super helpful for group notes or projects. It’s one of the staple homework apps for iPad.

3. Microsoft OneNote : The ultimate note-taking app for typed notes

If you prefer to type your notes like me, then OneNote is going to become one of your favorites. It’s a simple note-taking app that makes organization and layouts super easy.

First off, this app is separated by notebooks, which you can also divide into different sections. So a simple organization technique would be to have a notebook for each of your classes and then a new section of notes for each lecture. Everything can be color-coded as well, which is easy for quick identification.

Secondly, you can type anywhere, instantly. OneNote creates a new text box wherever you start typing. So you don’t have to take notes linearly. You can quickly add photos, too. In my opinion, this is superior to Apple Notes for anyone who prefers typed notes over handwritten ones.

4. Wolfram Alpha : Every calculator ever in a single app

Wolfram Alpha is one of those apps that you’ve probably used countless times without realizing. It has a web-based version that you can access at any time and that many websites incorporate into their own site. Like Google Images or Wikipedia, it’s just one of those internet things you bump into a lot.

best english homework app

Well, the Wolfram Alpha app for iPad is even better than the web version. The design is clean and simple, the features are extremely robust, and it contains everything you would ever need when it comes to calculators, graphs, and data.

In addition to its numerous calculators, Wolfram Alpha has features like hints, step-by-step solutions, an expanded keyboard, data pulled from websites, fitness information, and so much more. If the internet is like having a library in your pocket, this is like having every calculator in your pocket at once. It’s by far one of the best homework apps for iPad, and it’s only $2.99.

5. Stack Exchange : Get answers in advanced subjects

When I started college, I was surprised to find for the first time that I had questions Google couldn’t answer. The further you get into a particular study, especially if that study is complex, the harder it’s going to be to find information online. And you might have a professor that uses terms and concepts that are unique to them.

That’s where a forum like Stack Exchange can help you fill in the gaps. Similar to Reddit, Stack Exchange is a vote-based forum for people to ask and answer questions. Unlike Reddit, however, Stack Exchange is pretty serious. You’ll find that there are lots of rules, which can be tricky at first, but this creates a much more reliable resource in the end.

You can get educated and interactive answers on all kinds of topics. Many think that Stack Exchange is just for programming, but not so! Stack Exchange has forums dedicated to all kinds of disciplines and subjects, so you can find the one for your major and get personalized, educated advice to all of your questions. It’s like an upgrade for Google, which is why it’s made our list of homework apps for iPad.

6. Apple Notes : The best note-taking app for handwritten notes

I almost didn’t include this app since every iPad user already has this app and probably uses it. But just in case, I wanted to throw it out there.

By now, the majority of iPads have some form of Apple Pencil support. And thanks to iOS 14, that support includes handwritten text detection. This means that iPad can detect the words you write with the Apple Pencil and help you edit, spell check, and relocate your handwritten notes.

If you have an Apple Pencil and like to write your notes down, you should be taking notes in the Notes app. You can search your handwritten text, keep it stored and organized, and reduce the number of notebooks you’re carrying from class to class. And even if you like typing notes on your iPad, using the Notes app with the Apple Pencil makes it easy to include sketches and graphs with your notes.

And that’s all of the apps I have to suggest! I’ve used and loved most of these apps, and I hope that you do, too. They’re all great and useful and can make your school life so much easier. Not to mention that some of these apps can completely save your grade when you’re struggling.

  • Increased productivity: An English speaking app is always with you. Sometimes, you waste time while waiting for an appointment or on your commute, but by using an app you’ll have the chance to use that time more productively: reviewing, learning and playing.
  • Fun and motivation: Yes! You can learn while having fun. These apps let you play games and complete exercises while learning the language. Plus, with an element of fun, English apps will help you stay motivated to keep practicing. Many of them will also track your learning progress, which can further boost your motivation.
  • Affordability: Maybe the biggest benefit of English speaking apps is that they’re affordable—sometimes, they’re even free! Many apps offer free lessons, activities and resources for reaching English fluency .

Now you have some of the best English speaking apps that’ll help boost your pronunciation and conversational skills.

7 Apps That Can Do Your Homework Much Faster Than You

7 Apps That Will Do Your Homework For You

In the field of educational technology, some apps might be getting too smart.

More and more apps are delivering on-demand homework help to students, who can easily re-purpose the learning tools to obtain not just assistance, but also answers. Whether or not that’s cheating—and how to stop it—is one of the concerns surrounding a new app that can solve math equations with the snap of a camera . While the software has inspired teachers to create real-world homework problems that can’t be automatically solved , that strategy doesn’t hold up to other apps that tap into real-life brains for solutions.

Here’s a look at 7 apps that can do your homework for you, and what they have to say about cheating:

Price : Free Availability : iOS, Android app coming in early 2015

The new, seemingly magic app allows users to take pictures of typed equations, and then outputs a step-by-step solution. As of Wednesday, the app is the number one free app on the App Store. But the biggest issue, one teacher argues , isn’t if students will use the app to cheat, because many will. Rather, it’s about how teachers will adapt. A PhotoMath spokeswoman said educators have welcomed the app with positive reviews, but the software remains “quite controversial.”

“We didn’t develop PhotoMath as a cheating tool. We really wanted kids to learn,” said Tijana Zganec, a sales and marketing associate at tech company MicroBlink, which created PhotoMath. “If you want to cheat, you will find a way to cheat. But if you want to learn, you can use PhotoMath for that.”

Whether you’re a high schooler with eight periods of classes or a college student tackling dozens of credits, there’s one thing you’ve got for sure: a mess of assignments. iHomework can help you keep track of all your work, slicing and dicing it in a variety of ways. Sorting it by due date, week, month, or by course, the app is more organized than a Trapper Keeper. And in integrating data from Questia, you can link your reading material to your assignments so you don’t have to dig through a pile of papers to find the right information.

A scheduling feature can help you keep track of those random bi-weekly Thursday labs, and you can even mark the location of your courses on a map so you don’t end up on the wrong side of campus. And finally, with iCloud syncing, you can access all this information on whatever Apple-compatible device you’re using at the moment — no need to dig for your iPad.

Google Apps for Education

Taking the search giant’s suite of free browser-based apps and sandboxing them so they are safe for school use, Google Apps for Education is an excellent alternative to the mainstream installable productivity software, but this one has a perk that almost school board will love—it’s free. Packaging together favorites like Gmail, Hangouts, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive with Classroom, a digital hub for organizing assignments and sending feedback, the goal of this collection is to make learning a more collaborative process.

Though Google Apps for Education is cloud-hosted, the programs can be used offline, ideal for when your student needs to escape the internet and work distraction-free. And since it works on any device, it also helps students avoid buying overly expensive hardware. That means more money for extracurricular activities.

Price: Free, but some homework services require payment Availability: iOS and Android

HwPic is a tutoring service that allows students to take send pictures of their homework to tutors, who will then respond within minutes to your questions with a step-by-step solution. There’s even an option to expedite the answers if a student is in a hurry. HwPic Co-Founder Tiklat Issa said that the app was initially rejected by Apple’s App Store, which believed it would promote cheating, but he successfully argued that just because someone uses the app in a way that it’s not meant to be used doesn’t mean the app should be punished.

Issa added that HwPic prohibits cheating in its terms and conditions. Tutors don’t solve homework that has words like “Quiz” or “Exam,” and they often know if a student is sending a photo during a test if they’ve paid for expedited answers, and if the photo is dim, blurry and taken under a desk. “We’ve minimized cheating,” said Issa. “We haven’t eliminated it. That’s kind of unrealistic.”

Wolfram Alpha

Price : $2.99 Availability : iOS and Android

Wolfram Alpha is similar to PhotoMath, only that it targets older students studying high levels of math and doesn’t support photos. The service also outputs step-by-step solutions to topics as advanced as vector calculus and differential equations, making it a popular tool for college students.

“It’s cheating not doing computer-based math, because we’re cheating students out of real conceptual understanding and an ability to drive much further forward in the math they can do, to cover much more conceptual ground. And in turn, that’s cheating our economies,” said Conrad Wolfram, Wolfram Research’s Director of Strategic Development, in a TEDx Talk . “People talk about the knowledge economy. I think we’re moving forward to what we’re calling the computational knowledge economy.”

Homework Helper

Price: Free Availability: iOS and Android

Chinese Internet search company Baidu launched an app called Homework Helper this year with which students can crowdsource help or answers to homework. Users post a picture or type their homework questions onto online forums, and those who answer the questions can win e-coins that can be used to buy electronics like iPhones and laptops.

The app has logged 5 million downloads, much to the dismay of many some parents who argue that the students spend less time thinking about challenging problems. A Homework Helper staffer admitted to Quartz , “I think this is a kind of cheating.”

Price: Free, but some homework services require payment Availability: iOS

Slader is a crowdsourcing app for high school and college students to post and answer questions in math and science. While students can post original homework for help, many questions in popular textbooks have already been answered on the app, according to Fast Company . An Illinois high school said earlier this year that it suspected students were using the service to cheat on their math homework.

Slader argues that it’s “challenging traditional ideas about math and education,” and said that the ideas behind its app “aren’t a write-off to teachers,” according to its blog . Slader told San Francisco media outlet KQED that it shouldn’t be dismissed as a cheating tool, but rather considered a way for students to access real-time help.

Best PDF Editor for Mac

Best PDF editor for Mac

Many workplaces and educational institutions have completely switched from paper documents to digital ones. Consequently, Mac users are increasingly dealing with PDFs and other e-document file formats.

We’re here to help you find the best PDF editor for your Mac from the multitude of options. There are various PDF editing apps that cater to various budgets and workflows and among them are a few that stand out in terms of features, performance, and design.

When selecting a PDF editor, consider one that can create, convert, and export PDFs from various file types, while preserving the original formatting and making the text searchable and editable through OCR technology.

The editor should also allow for content editing, including modifying text, inserting, resizing, and moving images, and reorganizing pages. Additionally, it should enable users to add comments and annotations to PDF files during review, with tools for marking up both text documents and graphic-heavy files. Security features, such as password protection, permissions setting, and content redaction, are also important for access control. Lastly, consider a PDF editor with mobile support, either through a dedicated mobile app or cloud access.

If you’re looking for basic annotation and page organization, the free Preview app that is available as part of macOS may be sufficient. If you need more in the way of editing tools, then one of these apps could better support your needs.

We have reviewed all the PDF editors below, so read on to find out exactly what we thought.

1. Apple Preview

Apple Preview

  • Pre-installed and free
  • Clear user interface
  • Lots of handy tools
  • No iOS or iPadOS apps
  • Doesn't allow you to edit existing text

Apple Preview is the default document and image viewer on macOS, offering a range of useful features beyond just viewing photos and PDFs.

Click on any PDF (or any image format) to open it and it will launch in Preview. Alternatively, open Preview and it will open the Finder, allowing users to browse through folders to locate the file they want to view. The app features a toolbar at the top of the screen, which allows users to view file details, zoom in or out, share the file, fill in a form, or mark up the file.

The Markup button reveals tools for selection, doodling, inserting shapes or sticky notes, signing, and typing text. These tools are easily customizable, allowing users to control the color and size of a shape or text box, as well as pick between multiple fonts when typing. There is also an autofill helper.

Apple Preview is not designed to replace image or PDF editors, but it still offers some power-user features. The menu bar’s Tools button allows users to reveal more advanced image controls, such as granular resizing, color adjustments, and automatic background removal. The File menu includes a Export button that allows users to choose the output’s quality and file format, allowing them to convert images to various formats.

When viewing a PDF file in Apple Preview, users can easily re-order or delete its pages using the sidebar, allowing them to limit the file to the important bits they need. If exporting the PDF using Preview, users can optionally add a password, quartz filter, or file restrictions.

If you’d prefer not to pay for Adobe Acrobat or another solution, Apple Preview may be more suitable for you. Apple Preview offers free tools that Adobe has paywalled, including PDF page organization/deletion, password protection for PDF files, and document scanning.

2. Readdle PDF Expert

Readdle PDF Expert

  • Wide range of handy tools
  • Intuitive user interface
  • Flexible pricing
  • Lifetime license only enables use on Mac, not mobile
  • Unavailable on Android and Windows

PDF Expert has a wide range of reliable tools and an intuitive user interface. It’s a great option if you are looking for more than Preview offers for free.

Upon launching PDF Expert, users are greeted by a Tools tab with shortcuts to various features, such as organizing, optimizing, protecting, reviewing, or converting documents. The app runs smoothly and gives you everything you need to fully control a PDF file, including edit text and images, sign, fill checkboxes, add links, redact content in multiple ways, insert shapes, highlight text, doodle, and even measure the distance between two points or calculate specific areas.

The PDF Expert toolbar features layout settings, an advanced search bar, and an AI Chat button. The AI Chat button allows users to interact with the integrated chatbot, summarize PDFs, list key points, generate hashtags, and more. The toolbar’s center includes commonly used PDF editing functionalities, such as annotation, editing, file conversion and exporting, signing, and optical character recognition (OCR).

For most users, PDF Expert’s features are sufficient, as it allows users to manipulate a document’s content, add or remove elements, protect the file with a password, and shrink its size. While Adobe Acrobat offers more advanced tools, PDF Expert’s core functionalities are sufficient for most users.

There are two payment options on macOS: a lifetime license for $139.99/£139.99, or a annual license for $79.99/£72.99 per year, which induces future updates and mobile support. Students can get 50% off and there is a free 7-day trial. It is available for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but is not available on Android or Windows devices.

3. Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat

  • Cross platform and available on all relevant operating systems
  • Advanced PDF manipulation tools
  • Supports signature collection from other users
  • Mac app is bloated
  • Free version is limited compared to Preview in macOS
  • Paid subscriptions are expensive

Adobe Acrobat is a popular PDF viewer and editor on Mac, offering basic annotation tools. However, the free Acrobat Reader tier offers the same basic annotation tools that are present in Apple’s built-in Preview app, which is far superior in most cases. One point in its favor is that Acrobat is available across macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Windows, Android, and even the web, making it accessible from most modern computing devices, while Preview is limited to macOS.

Subscribing to Adobe Acrobat Standard for $12.99/£13.14 per month provides access to all PDF editing functionality, including more control over the PDF’s content, reorganization of the entire document’s layout, and more advanced tools like object measurements, accessibility preparation, JavaScript support, and search index insertion.

For the advanced Adobe Acrobat Pro features it’s $19.99/£19.97 a month. Pay that to get permanent redaction, web form creation, PDF comparisons, accessibility checks, audio/video insertion, and much more. Acrobat Pro is necessary for tasks like converting scanned documents into searchable and editable PDFs.

Adobe Acrobat’s paid subscriptions are expensive and do not offer one-time purchase options. The slightly higher monthly ‘cancel anytime’ price is a good option if you only need the features temporarily.

4. ABBYY FineReader PDF for Mac

ABBYY FineReader PDF for Mac

  • Reasonably accurate and reliable OCR functionality
  • Supports scanning and importing documents from iPhone
  • Can convert from PDF to a wide range of file format
  • Similarly priced apps include superior PDF editing tools

Other PDF editing apps offer optical character recognition (OCR) as an added perk, Abbyy FineReader PDF leads on its optical character recognition software and file converter, and, while it offers reliable OCR and file conversion functionalities, it falls short when it comes to PDF editing.

FineReader PDF is a simple user interface with three main tabs: viewing PDF documents, quick and advanced file conversion tools, and importing documents. It has been optimized for macOS and offers a modern design. FineReader PDF supports viewing and highlighting PDF files, with preset highlight colors and comments.

The quick conversion feature processes inputted files to detect content and then selects the output’s format. Supported file formats include PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, EPUB, FB2, TXT, HTML, RTF, ODT, and CSV. It doesn’t support Apple’s HEIC image format, so users may need to convert HEIC iPhone shots to JPG first. Each format offers its own customizations, such as ebook title, author, layout, and page size.

FineReader PDF exports the document, making it more editable. However, it doesn’t support proper PDF editing, so it may not be the ideal PDF solution for manipulating files.

It doesn’t offer a one-time purchase option and has relatively high recurring fees. It’s $69/£59 a year plan on the Abbyy website, or $11.99/£11.99 a month on the Mac App Store (which is a good option because you can cancel at any time). There’s a full-featured 7-day free trial.

Do Macs have built in PDF?

Macs have a built-in PDF editor called Apple Preview, which offers a comprehensive set of PDF markup tools, including form filling and password protection. This editor is superior to Adobe Acrobat’s free tier in terms of PDF editing capabilities. The PDF editing tools in macOS can be accessed through Quick Look or the Preview app, and they allow users to add text, highlight, underline, and strikethrough text, rotate pages, add and remove pages, add arrows and other shapes, and add comments to PDFs. Additionally, Apple Preview allows users to add their signature to a PDF. However, it’s worth noting that Apple Preview has limited native sharing options and is only available to Mac users.

How to make a PDF on a Mac

To create a PDF on a Mac, you can use the built-in Preview app. Simply create a document on your Mac, then choose Print > PDF and edit in Preview. The Preview app also allows you to export PDFs with options for quality and file format, and add password, quartz filter, or file restrictions. Alternatively, you can use tools like Adobe Acrobat Pro or Standard, one one of the other options in the list above, but these require a subscription.

How to fill in a PDF on a Mac

Filling in a PDF with Apple Preview is easy. The Mac app, included on every Mac, includes a form-filling feature that automatically detects fields and allows easy filling. In addition, AutoFill, a feature introduced in macOS 14.2, uses Contacts to select the necessary information and makes filling out PDFs faster and more secure. If you need more advance features then one of the options above will give you additional viewing, editing, converting, and PDF signing abilities.

Can I edit a PDF for free on a Mac?

Yes, you can edit a PDF for free on a Mac using Apple’s built-in Preview app, which offers a full set of PDF markup tools, including encryption, password protection, and permissions for files . Adobe also offers a free Acrobat Reader for reading and filling in PDFs, but it lacks some features that Apple’s built-in Preview app offers.

What’s the difference between Preview and Acrobat?

Adobe Acrobat and Apple Preview both offer basic annotation tools. While both have a form-filling feature, Preview automatically detects fields for easy filling, unlike Acrobat which requires manual alignment. Preview also offers free tools that Acrobat charges for, including PDF page organization/deletion, password protection, and document scanning . Furthermore, Preview is preloaded on Macs, providing faster performance and a sleeker design. However, Preview’s editing functionality is limited and it is not designed for advanced editing, unlike Acrobat which offers more functionality – it you pay for it.

About Tablet Hotels

Tablet Hotels was added to the Michelin family in 2018 when it merged with the MICHELIN Guide and became the source of the hotel selection.

Tablet Hotels is all about discovering the world's most exciting hotels — places where you'll find a memorable experience, not just a room for the night. For 20+ years we've scoured the earth, evaluating hotels that meet every taste and budget, creating a hand-picked selection that's proven and inspired. In fact, our painstaking curation led to Michelin making us the official hotel selection of their legendary MICHELIN Guide. The MICHELIN Guide had always been a benchmark in gastronomy. Now it's setting the same standard for hotels.
