BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, Episode 1 – Another Brilliant Start
Bleach: who was masaki kurosaki, bleach: why were the vizored so disappointing, key takeaways.
- Uryuu Ishida is the new Sternritter A - The Antithesis, with a powerful ability gifted by Yhwach.
- The Antithesis ability allows Uryuu to reverse circumstances with his enemies, showing his immense power.
- Uryuu's dangerous ability contrasts Ichigo's straightforward powers, elevating him to a new level of Quincy strength.
The Quincy Army, the Wandenreich, is led by powerful warriors called the Sternritters. Their king, Yhwach, granted each of them power. He etched a letter into their souls, bestowing them with an ability with that letter, a Schrift. The Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War anime has shown powerful Schrifft, Äs Nodt's The Fear, Gremmy's The Visionary, and Giselle's The Zombie. Powerful, intricate abilities each of the Sternritters use in their war against the Shinigami.
Uryuu Ishida was named Yhwach's successor and was granted the same letter as his majesty: A. Uryuu has already quietly utilized his brand-new power, but what can he do now? What is this special ability Uryuu received from his king in the new season of Bleach ?
The third cours of the final arc of BLEACH kicks off, and like the first episodes of the parts before it, it's another amazing start.
A Power Befitting the Successor, The Antithesis
The same letter as his majesty.
Uryuu underwent the usual Sternritter ritual, drinking Yhwach's literal blood. After which, his soul received power directly from his majesty, a new powerful Schrift . With this newfound strength, Uryuu stood at Yhwach's side along with Jugram Haschwalth as his majesty's right-hand man. Uryuu may in fact possess power that rivals Haschwalth.
"This is Uryuu Ishida, I hereby name him...my successor"
Uryuu Ishida is now Sternritter A - The Antithesis. Uryuu's Schrift is extremely powerful and dangerous, but it has to be utilized well, not just thrown around. Of course, this fits Uryuu, as he's known for being incredibly smart and resourceful , not to mention courageous. Uryuu's new Schrifft elevates him to a new level of Quincy power.
Kurosaki Masaki was an exceptional mother, and Quincy, however her time was cut short. But what was Masaki's heritage? Why is it important to know?
The Antithesis reverses the circumstances between Uryuu or his target and his enemy. Uryuu previously used this power to switch Yhwach's position with his medallion, getting him out of Kirio Hikifune's cage. Now, he's used this power to swap positions with Senjumaru Shuutara, entraping her in her own Bankai . Uryuu Ishida is essentially a comeback tactic, an uno reverse card if you will, he completely switches his predicament with his enemy's safety.
"On my honor as a Quincy...I will kill you"
The Antithesis is a sort of another form of Jugram Haschwalth's The Balance. Jugram can balance out someone's fortune with equal misfortune, casting great pain on an advantageous target. Uryuu's The Antithesis is a more free-form version of this. His Schrifft doesn't make use of ethereal concepts, but rather the physical, tangible circumstances of his targets. Uryuu can use this ability on him and his enemy , or an ally and even an inanimate object, as seen when he uses it on his king.
The renegade Soul Reapers with Hollow powers were built up to be very powerful and important, but they sadly fell to the wayside.
Uryuu's new ability is in direct contrast to Ichigo. While Ichigo's Zangetsu's powers are straightforward, Uryuu's Antithesis is a hax, treacherous power. Zangetsu is known for being a Zanpakutou made for direct combat , pairing great speed with his energy-based Getsuga Tensho and Getsuga Juujisho. While Zangetsu's Hollow Powers are standard, Espada-level abilities. Uryuu's The Antithesis is in line with the rest of his brethren. Äs Nodt's The Fear inflicts paralyzing terror on his victims, Gremmy's The Visionary manifests his imagination into reality, and Giselle's The Zombie turns people into her obedient, mindless zombies. The Sternritter often has intricate and otherworldly powers.
Uryuu's The Antithesis allowed him to defeat Senjumaru Shuutara , a member of Squad 0, and one of the most powerful characters in all of Bleach . This depicts Uryuu as much more powerful than he seems and on a completely different dimension to what he's always been in the series: a standard, yet strong Quincy. What will Uryuu do with this power, and what lies ahead for him on this path, next to his majesty? Only time will tell what Uryuu's future is.

10 Anime Villains Way Smarter Than Bleach's Yhwach
15 ways the bleach anime has aged poorly, 10 weakest bankai in all of bleach.
The following contains spoilers from the Bleach manga's "Thousand-Year Blood War" arc by Tite Kubo, now available in English from Viz media.
As the mysteries of Bleach 's "Thousand-Year Blood War" arc continue to unravel, the story grows more complicated. Fans are left with a lot of questions about Uryu Ishida's shocking decision to join the deadly Yhwach and become a Sternritter. Of Ichigo Kurosaki's many friends, Uryu is among the most powerful and the most intriguing. The series shows his tremendous growth in every arc, making him all the more likable. In terms of strength, Uryu is Ichigo's only friend who can regularly fight side-by-side with him.
However, Uryu's apparent betrayal in the recent anime suggests he will become Ichigo's enemy. As a Sternritter, Uryu has gained an extraordinary ability and is now stronger than ever. It would only add to the protagonist's problems if such a close ally were to turn against him. Here's a full explanation of Uryu's true intentions — and whether he achieves what he's aiming for.
Updated on August 30, 2023, by Ajay Aravind: Shonen anime like Bleach consistently center around a single male protagonist, although the main character's friends are just as important. In fact, each of Bleach 's four overarching storylines revolves around one of Ichigo Kurosaki's pals. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc is about the Quincy and has everything to do with Uryu Ishida, which leaves fans wondering if Ishida betrays Ichigo.

Ishida's Betrayal in Bleach Was Neither Random Nor Unexpected
Uryu Ishida begins acting uncharacteristically right at the start of the "Thousand-Year Blood War" arc, and Bleach drops a few hints that something will happen between him and Ichigo. Orihime, for example, points out that she's glad Ichigo and Uryu are close friends now. During his battle with one of the Quincy, Ichigo himself remarks that he hasn't been attacked with Uryu's arrow for a long time, setting the possibility for a future clash between the two. However, Uryu suddenly declines to go to Hueco Mundo to help Dondochakka, saying that the Quincy exist to defeat hollows.
Considering Uryu didn't hesitate to work with Hollows in the past, this rejection seemingly comes out of nowhere. He'd also previously fought alongside Pesche, Dondochakka, and Nel to save Orihime. Despite how much he loathed the Soul Reapers in the "Soul Society" arc, Uryu was genuinely worried about Nemu being mistreated by Mayuri Kurotsuchi. The young Quincy has always tried to help those in a weaker position, therefore it was all the more confusing to see him refuse to help a former comrade.
Uryu never previously distinguished among races and, despite being rather aloof, always did his best to help those in need. This time, however, the rest of the team left him behind and went to Hueco Mundo, separating from him for a long time. The next time they meet Uryu is when they're on opposing sides. Whether intentional or not, Bleach had never once portrayed Uryu as evil. After joining the Sternritter , however, his true intentions soon became clear.

Why Uryu Ishida Betrays His Friends in Bleach
After his separation from the group, Uryu insists on learning about the history of the Quincy — despite his father's countless efforts to stop him. His research turns up a rather shocking piece of information regarding his mother's death. Though she supposedly died from some sort of illness, she actually passed away because of Yhwach's Auswählen (Holy Selection). Incredibly, Ichigo and Uryu both lost their mother on the same day because Yhwach decided to steal their powers for himself.
As a result, Masaki Kurosaki died from a lack of power in her fight with Grand Fisher. Kanae Katagiri, who always had a weak body, died from her sudden loss of energy. Therefore, Uryu joined the Sternritter and even became Yhwach's successor in a plot to infiltrate the Wandenreich Empire and act as a double agent for the Soul Society.
To prove he really was on Yhwach's side, Uryu attacked his "former" friends head-on, declaring he would deal with them before Yhwach woke up. In truth, Uryu had deduced a key weakness in Yhwach and learned the villain is not invincible as everyone had believed. As long as Yhwach shares his Almighty ability with Jugram, he could potentially be defeated. Through this discovery, Uryu did achieve the initial goal behind his supposed betrayal.

Why Yhwach Chose Uryu as His Successor
Yhwach choosing Uryu as his successor was even more surprising to Bleach fans than the latter joining him in the first place. The mighty villain is a shrewd character who thinks of his subordinates as mere tools, never trusting anyone except his right-hand man Jugram Haschwalth . By many counts, Jugram — the strongest Sternritter and the one who shares Yhwach's ultimate power — should be the successor. Yhwach is impressed by Uryu as well, however, especially considering he's the only "impure" Quincy to have survived the Holy Selection nine years prior.
Therefore, Yhwach declares Uryu as his successor in front of his entire army and even bestows the letter "A" on him, giving immeasurable powers to the young Quincy. The letter stands for "Antithesis," which literally translates to "Perfect Anti-Setup". With this power, Uryu can reverse anything that happens between any two targets. For example, if he is injured by an opponent in battle, he can easily transfer his condition to that person, simultaneously healing himself.
Though Yhwach never outright explains why he chose Uryu as his successor, Jugram is perceptive enough to see his intentions. He explains that Uryu only received the honor so he'd be in a position where everyone else could keep an eye on him. Yhwach is by no means a gullible individual, so he probably saw through Uryu's "betrayal" from the start. Instead of directly killing his descendant, however, Yhwach decides to put him on a pedestal and give his subordinate Jugram a chance to deal with him. In the end, however, Uryu didn't betray Ichigo.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Debuts a New Bankai, Proving Kyoraku's Godly Strength
Bleach sparks new cg debate, but is the controversy even justified, naruto explains how boruto's new jutsu puts him on par with the fourth hokage.
Warning: Spoilers for Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War 's second part wasted no time getting down to the plot, with its opening scenes promoting Uryu to a position of prominence in the Quincy organization, as well as granting him a new power. It's the nature of this new power, however, that just might make Uryu too overpowered for the plot.
In Thousand-Year Blood War , Quincy leader Yhwach gives his subordinates a special power, known as a "schrift," which corresponds to a letter of the alphabet. These powers can be quite strong, as seen with Bleach's Stern Ritter Y , who disguised himself as Yhwach and was able to fight at an incredible level while in that state. These Schrift powers are all enough to make their wielders a serious threat, and that goes for Uryu, too. There is one noteworthy aspect to Uryu receiving his schrift, though, and that's the fact that Yhwach says it is the same as his own.
Uryu's "A" Schrift Is One Of Bleach 's Strongest Powers
Uryu was given the "A" Schrift, which in the manga is said to stand for "Antithesis." The Antithesis ability allows its wielder to take what has happened and reverse the outcome. If Uryu were losing and taking a lot of damage, for example, he could use the Antithesis ability to transfer all the damage he had taken to his opponent, while whatever had been dealt to his opponent would be transferred to him. Uryu isn't just limited to using this on himself, or even just on injuries; any two objects that have interacted are eligible for this reversal.
It's not hard to see how this ability could become story-breaking very soon. In some ways, it's similar to Orihime's ability to "reject" the occurrence of events, but the ability to not only undo, but reflect it back at one's opponent makes it far more powerful. While Uryu has only briefly used this ability on screen in the Thousand-Year Blood War anime, during the Quincy elite guard's battle with Squad Zero , which he used to help Yhwach escape the prison that Squad Zero created.
How Uryu's Schrift Power Stacks Up Against Ichigo
Of course, fans are very much looking forward to the inevitable moment when Uryu clashes with Ichigo. Antithesis is very powerful, and it's especially useful in the hands of someone as intelligent as Uryu. Ichigo, however, has gotten some major power-ups of his own since they last spoke, reforging his Zanpakuto and undergoing some brutal training in the Soul King's Palace. Ichigo's upgraded Bankai has yet to be used on-screen, so it's impossible to say just how powerful he has become, and whether it will be enough to defeat Uryu. One can't forget, however, that Uryu has access to Vollstandig and other Quincy powers in addition to his schrift, and that combination of powers makes him extremely formidable.
Uryu's Quincy Powers Are Only Growing Stronger In Thousand-Year Blood War
In part 3 of Thousand-Year Blood War , Uryu utilizes the Antithesis in his anime-original battle against Senjumaru Shutara, a member of Squad Zero. While Senjumaru has Uryu trapped and seemingly at her mercy, Uryu is able to use the Antithesis (empowered further by Yhwach's Almighty) to swap places with her, putting her at his mercy--which she receives none of. It's clear that despite being fairly new to this power, Uryu has already found a very effective way in which to utilize it, and that power may only grow stronger in the coming episodes.
But Uryu's schrift power isn't his only new ability. Another added fight scene in the anime, this time between Uryu and Ichigo, sees Uryu deploy his Vollstandig (translated as Voll Stern Dich in the anime), an ability which he never got to use in the manga. Uryu's Vollstandig grants him many powerful new techniques, such as manifesting feather-like projectiles which he can use to attack opponents en masse, preventing them from being able to block his attacks. Uryu's Vollstandig's ultimate technique is the Sternenstaub, which brings these feathers together into a single massive arrow that rivals Ichigo's Getsuga Tensho in power.
Uryu is already far, far more powerful in the anime than he was in the manga as a result of these changes, making him a truly formidable foe for Ichigo. The changes have been received with overwhelming support from fans, who have long felt that Uryu was not an active enough participant in Thousand-Year Blood War , despite the arc ostensibly focusing on him and his dilemma.
Uryu Gets One Of The Many Broken Powers That Appear In Thousand-Year Blood War
As manga readers know, many of the abilities shown by the Sternitters in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc are absolutely broken, or sometimes not explained enough - as is the case with Yhwach's power, the Almighty, which enables him to see all possible futures. Uryu has often struggled to keep up with power creep in Bleach , but with this ability at his disposal, that certainly won't be a problem any further. As Yhwach's successor and wielding the Antithesis ability, Uryu has gone from a run-of-the-mill Quincy to one of the Soul Society's greatest threats in all of Bleach .

Uryu Ishida's Engraving Ritual.
When promoted to the ranks of Sternritter , a Quincy of the Wandenreich undergoes a ceremony called the Engraving Ritual (刻印の儀式, Kokuin no Gishiki ), involving the Quincy in question drinking a cup of Yhwach 's blood, after which Yhwach is able to carve an initial of the power he wishes to bestow directly into the select individual's soul . In addition, the granted power returns to Yhwach should the Sternritter die. [3]
The power of a Schrift can be greatly enhanced by the usage of Quincy: Vollständig , [4] while also allowing the Quincy in question to access new techniques that they normally could not use. [5]
History [ ]
Yhwach had the ability to share part of his soul with other Quincy to empower them from when he was born. [6] At some point in his later life, Yhwach discovered how to improve upon this ability and thus grant unique powers to other Quincy. [7] Lille Barro was the first Quincy to ever be bestowed a Schrift by Yhwach. [8]
List of Schrift [ ]
- In the original release of Chapter 646, Lille says he is the last Quincy to be given a Schrift . It was changed to first Quincy in Chapter 656. The Japanese release of Volume 71 corrected 646 and changed it to first ; however, the official English release of Volume 71 keeps the mistake.
- In Ryōgo Narita 's short story Beginning of the Revive of Tommorow , Shaz Domino was assigned a letter, Ϛ or Stigma ( Ϛ ( スティグマ ) / 聖痕 ( スティグマ ) , Sutiguma ; Japanese for " Stigma " or " Holy Scar "), by Yhwach more as an honorary designation than a genuine Schrift , in the same manner as Pernida and Gerard. [38]
- In Narita's novel Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World , Haschwalth's aide declined a Schrift despite her powers being far superior than most Sternritters as her foremost loyalty was to Haschwalth, with Yhwach second. [39]
Klub Outside Trivia [ ]
- According to Q&A #281 by Tite Kubo on his fansite "Klub Outside", Yhwach can see in advance which Schrift a chosen Quincy would receive on their soul, and thus selects Quincy to empower based on those criteria, both concerning the power and which letters are unaccounted for. [40]
- According to Q&A #626 by Tite Kubo on his fansite "Klub Outside", Yhwach could grant Schrift to Shinigami and Arrancar as well should he so choose. [40]

[The Antithesis] can “reverse an event that has already happened between two targets”. So if one person gets stabbed, Uryu can reverse who got stabbed, or who is on the brink of death, or who is standing in front of an oncoming train, etc.
Uryu Ishida, in betraying Yhwach, would need only one. And thus concludes my thesis for the one with the ultimate power. The one who is the personification of the very word he was given as an epithet which would reach above of the highest power of all.
