Reminder- NPTEL: Exam Registration is open now for July 2024 courses!

Dear Candidate,

Here is a golden opportunity for those who had previously enrolled in this course during the July 2023 semester, but could not participate in the exams or were absent/did not pass the exam for this course. This course is being reoffered in July 2024 and we are giving you another chance to write the exam in October 26, 2024 a nd obtain a certificate based on NPTEL norms. Do not let go of this unique opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs/IISc.

IMPORTANT instructions for learners - Please read this carefully  

1. The exam date for this course: October 26, 2024

2. CLICK HERE to register for the exam.

Please fill the exam form using the same Enrolled email id & make fee payment via the form, as before.

3. Choose from the Cities where exam will be conducted: Exam Cities

4. You DO NOT have to re-enroll in the courses. 

5. You DO NOT have to resubmit Assignments OR participate in the non-proctored programming exams(if applicable) in the previous semester

6. If you do enroll in the July 2024 course, we will take the best average assignment scores/non-proctored programming exam(if applicable) score across the two semesters.

Please check once if you have >= 40/100  in average assignment score and also participated and satisfied the criteria in the non-proctored programming exams(if applicable) that were conducted in July 2023 to become eligible for the e-certificate, wherever applicable.

If not, please submit assignments again in the July 2024 course and also participate in the non-proctored programming exams(if applicable) to become eligible for the e-certificate.

We will not be having new assignments or unproctored exams(if applicable) in the previous semester's (July 2023) course. 

RECOMMENDATION: If you want to take new assignments and an unproctored exam(if applicable) or brush up on your lessons for the exam, please enroll in the July 2024 course.

7. Exam fees: 

If you register for the exam and pay before August 12, 2024 - 5:00 PM, Exam fees will be Rs. 1000/- per exam .

8. 50% fee waiver for the following categories: 

Students belonging to the SC/ST category: please select Yes for the SC/ST option and upload the correct Community certificate.

Students belonging to the PwD category with more than 40% disability: please select Yes for the option and upload the relevant Disability certificate. 

9. Last date for exam registration: August 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM (Friday). 

10. Between August 12, 2024 - 5:00 PM & August 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM late fee will be applicable.

11. Mode of payment: Online payment - debit card/credit card/net banking/UPI. 

12. HALL TICKET: 

The hall ticket will be available for download tentatively by 2 weeks prior to the exam date. We will confirm the same through an announcement once it is published. 

13. FOR CANDIDATES WHO WOULD LIKE TO WRITE MORE THAN 1 COURSE EXAM:- you can add or delete courses and pay separately – till the date when the exam form closes. Same day of exam – you can write exams for 2 courses in the 2 sessions. Same exam center will be allocated for both the sessions. 

14. Data changes: 

Last date for data changes: August 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM :  

We will charge an additional fee of Rs. 200 each to make any changes related to name, DOB, photo, signature, SC/ST and PWD certificates after the last date of data changes.

The following 6 fields can be changed (until the form closes) ONLY when there are NO courses in the course cart. And you will be able to edit those fields only if you: - 

REMOVE unpaid courses from the cart And/or - CANCEL paid courses

Domain Certification

Domain Certification helps learners to gain expertise in a specific Area/Domain. This can be helpful for learners who wish to work in a particular area as part of their job or research or for those appearing for some competitive exam or becoming job ready or specialising in an area of study.  

Every domain will comprise Core courses and Elective courses. Once a learner completes the requisite courses per the mentioned criteria, you will receive a Domain Certificate showcasing your scores and the domain of expertise. NPTEL: Exam Registration is open now for July 2023 courses!

Dear Learner, 

Here is the much-awaited announcement on registering for the July 2023 NPTEL course certification exam. 

1. The registration for the certification exam is open only to those learners who have enrolled in the course. 

2. If you want to register for the exam for this course, login here using the same email id which you had used to enroll to the course in Swayam portal. Please note that Assignments submitted through the exam registered email id ALONE will be taken into consideration towards final consolidated score & certification. 

3 . Date of exam: October 28, 2023

4. Exam fees: 

If you register for the exam and pay before Aug 14, 2023, 5:00 PM, Exam fees will be Rs. 1000/- per exam .

5. 50% fee waiver for the following categories: 

6. Last date for exam registration: Aug 18, 2023, 5:00 PM (Friday). 

7. Between Aug 14, 2023, 5:00 PM & Aug 18, 2023, 5:00 PM late fee will be applicable.

8. Mode of payment: Online payment - debit card/credit card/net banking/UPI.

10. FOR CANDIDATES WHO WOULD LIKE TO WRITE MORE THAN 1 COURSE EXAM:- you can add or delete courses and pay separately – till the date when the exam form closes. Same day of exam – you can write exams for 2 courses in the 2 sessions. Same exam center will be allocated for both the sessions.

We will charge an additional fee of Rs. 200 to make any changes related to name, DOB, photo, signature, SC/ST and PWD certificates after the last date of data changes.

Conservation Geography:Welcome to NPTEL Online Course - July 2023!!

• Every week, about 2.5 to 4 hours of videos containing content by the Course instructor will be released along with an assignment based on this. Please watch the lectures, follow the course regularly and submit all assessments and assignments before the due date. Your regular participation is vital for learning and doing well in the course. This will be done week on week through the duration of the course.
• Please do the assignments yourself and even if you take help, kindly try to learn from it. These assignments will help you prepare for the final exams. Plagiarism and violating the Honor Code will be taken very seriously if detected during the submission of assignments.
• The announcement group - will only have messages from course instructors and teaching assistants - regarding the lessons, assignments, exam registration, hall tickets, etc.
• The discussion forum (Ask a question tab on the portal) - is for everyone to ask questions and interact. Anyone who knows the answers can reply to anyone's post and the course instructor/TA will also respond to your queries.
• Please make maximum use of this feature as this will help you learn much better.
• If you have any questions regarding the exam, registration, hall tickets, results, queries related to the technical content in the lectures, any doubts in the assignments, etc can be posted in the forum section
• The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
• The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
• Date and Time of Exams: October 28, 2023 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2 pm to 5 pm.
• Registration URL: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
• The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

About SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a program initiated by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity, and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching and learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants – (1) video lectures, (2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes, and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using audio-video and multimedia and state-of-the-art pedagogy/technology.

To ensure that the best quality content is produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed. They are:

•    AICTE  (All India Council for Technical Education) for self-paced and international courses
•    NPTEL  (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) for Engineering
•    UGC  (University Grants Commission) for non-technical post-graduation education
•    CEC  (Consortium for Educational Communication) for undergraduate education
•    NCERT  (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for school education
•    NIOS  (National Institute of Open Schooling) for school education
•    IGNOU  (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for out-of-school students
•    IIMB  (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) for management studies
•    NITTTR  (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research) for Teacher Training programme

Courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost to the learners, however, learners wanting a SWAYAM certificate should register for the final proctored exams that come at a fee and attend in person at designated centers on specified dates. Eligibility for the certificate will be announced on the course page and learners will get certificates only if this criteria is matched. Universities/colleges approving credit transfers for these courses can use the marks/certificates obtained in these courses for the same.

Credit Transfer in NPTEL

UGC has already issued the UGC (Credit Framework for online learning courses through SWAYAM) Regulation 2016 advising the Universities to identify courses where credits can be transferred onto the academic record of the students for courses done on SWAYAM. AICTE has also put out a gazette notification in 2016 and subsequently for the adoption of these courses for credit transfer.

You can indicate your grievances related to Credit Transfer at your parent university by submitting them in this  form .

The current SWAYAM platform is developed by the Ministry of Education and NPTEL, IIT Madras with the help of Google Inc. and Persistent Systems Ltd.

National Coordinators

To ensure the best quality content is produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed. They are AICTE for self-paced and international courses. NPTEL for engineering, UGC for nontechnical post-graduation education, CEC for undergraduate education, NCERT & NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out-of-school students, IIMB for management studies, and NITTTR for Teacher Training program.

Local Chapters

NPTEL has been offering self-study courses across engineering, humanities, and science streams for more than a decade. These are available at: http://nptel.ac.in. From March 2014 NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs! These are available  here

To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, we are setting up a SWAYAM-NPTEL chapter in colleges (with the approval of the management) which will be under the headship of a faculty member of the college, who would be our Single Point of Contact (SPOC). We will keep the SPOC updated about all the latest NPTEL initiatives and give him information that he can disseminate among the students. He can identify suitable mentors for various courses, who can ensure that students are active in a course, are submitting their assignments on time, and also clarify the doubts they may have.

We hope your college will be part of this initiative and thank you for your valuable time.

About NPTEL Awareness Workshops for faculty

NPTEL Awareness Workshops aim to create maximum awareness among faculty members about NPTEL and its various initiatives. The workshop will include sessions on NPTEL and its features, NPTEL Online Certification courses, and the concept of NPTEL Local Chapter. NPTEL and the host Institute will jointly organize the workshop. The host college will invite 2-3 faculty members from colleges (both Engineering Institutions and Arts and Science colleges) that are within a radius of 150 km. Typical duration of the workshop: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

NPTEL is now conducting e-awareness workshops also in association with its partner colleges.

Expected outcome: The faculty will become aware of NPTEL and how it can be used and can take it back to the Heads of their institutions for implementation in the best way to benefit their students. These members can also have a session with their students, where they can explain about NPTEL to them.

Note: Workshop requests from colleges will be entertained only under the following conditions: 1) Similar workshops have not been conducted so far in the region where the college is located (at least in the last 2 years) 2) Availability of NPTEL coordinators and Resource persons from the IITs / IISc

Problem-solving Live sessions every week

Every week there will be an online live interaction – where problems will be solved pertaining to content of the week and answer any additional questions/doubts.

• Sessions conducted: Friday – Tuesday every week from week 1.
• Session timings: will be announced on the respective course announcement page.
• The session reminder will be sent to the enrolled candidates and spocs.
• The recorded session will be updated later as a YouTube link on the course page.

● GATE Syllabus Mapping is made available for the following 10 disciplines: ○ CS, EE, EC, ME, CE, MT, CY, IN, MA & PH ● Mock Tests are available for 6 disciplines – EE, EC, ME, CE, PH & CY ○ Conducted a total of 115 mocks, 3500+ students attended these practice Mocks to date. ● The number of registered students in the NPTEL GATE Portal till date is 35,585. ● GATE Video solutions are available for the following 9 departments with 4191 videos in total & 420 hours of content approximately. ● Live sessions/Online assistance through mentors conducted in the following departments – CS, CE, CH, CY, EC, EE, ME, MT, PH – 890 sessions in which 7965 students participated in Live Mentoring Sessions conducted by GATE NPTEL.

Translation

More than 224 unique courses translated into various languages Soft copies can be downloaded from the NPTEL website

• Apply for translation via Google form, where a sample of the translated document has to be submitted
• The sample will be quality-checked
• Selected translators will be allocated to a course folder.
• We will provide the translators with the English doc files and the pdf files.

NPTEL partners with Microsoft and Ansys for certification courses

MICROSOFT ● Connecting active NPTEL LCs to set up Microsoft Learn for Educators (MSLE) accounts and enable students to obtain Microsoft Fundamental Certifications through the “Future Ready Talent Program” ● NPTEL Domain Scholars provided an opportunity to upskill on Microsoft certifications and create a project aligned to industry requirements and on completion of the project – eligible for off-campus placement drives conducted by Microsoft Partners / Career Fairs organized by the FRT partners.

• 20 NPTEL courses identified by Ansys – toppers of these courses would be offered Free track completion badges (worth Rs.12,000 each) for the mapped Ansys learning tracks

How do I enroll/register for an NPTEL online course?

Is there a fee to join/register for an online course?

No. Joining/enrolling for an NPTEL online course is free. Once enrolled, the videos and associated study material may also be downloaded for free. Learning from the course, submitting assignments, participating in the discussion forum is free. To write the final exam, you need to pay Rs. 1000/- per course. If you are taking exams outside India, please write to [email protected] with the country and city where you will be taking the exam.

What is the eligibility criterion for joining an online course?

There is no specific eligibility criterion for any of the NPTEL online courses. The faculty of a particular course may recommend some basic knowledge of certain topics for a person to fully grasp the contents of a course.

How old should I be to register for an NPTEL online certification course?

Anyone may join an NPTEL online certification course. There is no age limit.

Can I join for more than one course at a time?

Yes.You may join for any number of NPTEL courses you wish but you can write exams only for a maximum of six courses per semester. You can take one exam in the forenoon session and another during the afternoon session on the same day. 2 exams a day x 3 days = 6 exams in a semester. You cannot take more than 2 exams a day even though you have joined for more courses whose exams fall on the same day. NPTEL will allot the session (Forenoon/Afternoon) and it will be mentioned in the hall ticket. There is no option to change the date of the exams. You need to have the same registered email ID for all courses to have two different sessions on the same day in the same exam centre. NPTEL will allot sessions accordingly and the sessions will not clash.

I enrolled for a course but now I want to withdraw from this course and join another course. How should I do this?

Once you have enrolled to a course you cannot withdraw from a course. You may choose to “Unsubscribe from Announcement and Forum” which is available in the Progress tab of the respective courses. This way, you will not be receiving email notifications.

I have enrolled for an online course. What is the next step?

Those who have enrolled for a course will receive a confirmation welcome mail. After that, when the course begins and the weekly lessons are released, you will be notified via e-mail. Also, any news, announcements, etc. will be posted in the Announcement Page of the course. You can now start watching the videos. Please keep checking your course page for updates.

Will there be self-assessment assignments?

Yes. Certain courses will have these types of assignments. These are meant only for assessing your learning from the course. Typically, these assessments will not carry any marks. The answers for such assignments will also be posted in the course page. Please note that the faculty decides on the type of assignments for each course.

Will the score that I get for the assignment(s) be counted along with my exam marks for the final score?

Yes, the assignment scores also contribute to the overall score. 25% of the total score comes from Assignment marks; 75% from final exam.

I may not be able to submit all the assignments. Will this hinder my final score?

The final score may be affected as the assignment scores will be counted towards the final exam score. But this will not hamper your writing the certification exam.

What if I have limited internet access? How do I watch videos online?

You may download the videos and watch them offline. Available on  https://nptel.ac.in/courses  -> Courses, website where the same content will be posted. Also, for certain courses, transcripts are available which are relatively smaller in file size and easier to download.

How will these online courses fit into my curriculum?

You have to check with your college/University if they will take this into consideration and incorporate it into your certificate.

I live outside India. Can I still enroll for NPTEL online courses?

Yes. You may enroll for any online course no matter where you live and go through the course material.

I live outside India. Can I take the certification exam?

NPTEL conducts the final certification exam as a proctored exam where the candidate has to come in person to a designated centre and write the exam. If you are staying outside India, please write to [email protected] with the country and city where you will be taking the exam. We will enable Remote Proctored Exam, after verifying certain documents that have to submitted as evidence of your stay outside India. You will also have to pay an extra facilitation fee.

Will I get credit equivalents for NPTEL certification courses?

You will have to check with the authorities at your college/university. For 12 weeks/8 weeks/4 weeks courses, NPTEL recommends 3/2/1 credits respectively. NPTEL will share the e-certificate once the learner has passed, along with the score in the exam and the assignments as well. The university/college may use this information and convert it into their system of grades as per their requirement. My Experience This Year and Previous Year

In the previous year, Experienced there were questions from the assignment mostly(60% Quiz and 40% video Lecture And Some questions From handwritten notes).

But the sad part of the story is that I just did not study the question and did not study from handwritten notes, instructor notes, and videos.

So I had to stay in the examination room for a long time because I had to solve the problem by analyzing the code assigned to the question and numerical for some of them.

3 hours remained basically enough to fill out the document.

This year, NPTEL surprised me: NO QUESTIONS FROM ASSIGNMENT . 

But here comes the good part of the story. Fortunately, I also studied this time with handwritten notes, instructor notes, and videos.

So I was pretty comfortable with the questions. But yes, compared to last year, we had to think a lot to conclude the solution this time.

The conclusion is to study in-depth from the video and understand each concept explained. You can skip the instructor’s notes, but you can also skip the content of the video.

So, I encourage you to write notes while you watch the video. This saves a lot of time a day before the exam.

The boat from St.-Petersburg docks at Norther River Port near Rechnoi Vokzal metro station.

The distance from the port to the metro station is 10-15 min on foot.

Since the physical distance is about 15-20 km, the taxi will be quite expensive (around RUR 300-400). To compare, the metro costs RUR 17 per one.

Enjoy your visit

Forget distance, the main problem is time/traffic. We drove past it multiple times on the way to one of our frequent destinations. It is a long drive time-wise during the day from the city center. Do the Metro if at all possible.

Moscow vs St Petersburg – A Russian Rumble

Russian river cruises are a fantastic way to discover the rich history and culture of an iconic nation. Moscow and St Petersburg are arguably two of Russia’s most famous and popular destinations – but which one is better? Don’t get me wrong, I do think that St Petersburg is a nice city – but I also think that Moscow is a fantastic city and beyond doubt the best in Russia. The entire region is steeped in illustrious history, from Red Square in the heart of the metropolis, where impressive historic landmarks including the Lenin Mausoleum and St Basil’s Cathedral dominate the skyline, to the world-famous Kremlin. If its history and culture you’re after, St Petersburg simply does not compare.

Moscow also surpasses St Petersburg in terms of areas of natural beauty as well as tranquil parks and gardens. On a pleasant day, visitors can stroll through a number of the city’s wonderful green spaces, including the vast Gorkiy Park, the former imperial estate of Kolomenskoye and the ever-popular Park Sokolniki, filled with beautiful flora and a collection of charming attractions. Moving further off the beaten track is difficult in St Peterburg, whereas in Moscow, stunning outlying areas such as the Patriarshi pond area and the Japanese Garden in Botanichesky Sad offer the perfect place to spend a peaceful day.

When it comes to the shopping and dining experiences on offer, Moscow beats St Petersburg hands down. A wealth of authentic local food, delicious international cuisine and familiar fast food outlets are scattered across the city, offering tourists a plethora of culinary delights. Incredible mixes of gastronomic cultures are available in Moscow. Visitors will find everything from Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes to Armenian and Azerbaijani cuisine.

Tourist’s hoping to pick up some local gifts will find a treasure trove of souvenirs across Moscow, at the range of opulent shopping malls and quaint marketplaces located all over the centre of the city.

In my humble (and correct) opinion – based on the facts in front of me – St Petersburg doesn’t hold a candle to the amazing sights and sounds of Moscow, Russia’s world-famous capital city.

St Petersburg

Sure, Moscow’s the capital; it’s great for squares, overly-expensive cups of coffee and the like. But you can never take Russia’s second city out of contention. Yes, it was built on a swamp, but Peter the Great clearly knew what he was doing. St. Petersburg is one of the most vital modern European cities, don’t let the devotees to the (admittedly, pretty) sights of Moscow fool you.

Perhaps it’s because St. Petersburg’s architect was Italian that it manages to so thoroughly stand out from the crowd of Russian cities. Maybe it’s the winding canals and the classical architecture. Regardless of the past, St. Petersburg is a city which manages to straddle the sweet spot between historical importance and modern style.

But who says Moscow rules the roost when it comes to the historical? There are enough sights in St. Petersburg to keep tourists occupied for days, if not weeks.

Leading the pack is the iconic Winter Palace, an eternally magnificent reminder that Russia is always a hotspot for architecture. Beautifully pristine even after all these years, it remains a contender for the finest photographic subject in Europe – a grand mass of imperial pillars and colourful décor.

And then, of course, there’s the State Hermitage Museum. If the Winter Palace had Moscow on the ropes, this is where St. Petersburg draws back and flings out an uppercut to finish it off.  The museum remains firmly rooted in prodigious hype, but that never stops it from living up to it. Everything from Egyptian mummies to Picasso masterpieces can be found in the endless varnished halls of the State Hermitage, and like the city itself, you’ll wish you had days more to explore it.

And to top it all off, you can visit it all during the legendary White Nights, where on long summer days the sun never seems to dip below the horizon. St Petersburg might be known as a second city, but Moscow has best be looking over its shoulder.
