చిన్న చిత్రాల సంద‌డితో ఈ వేస‌వి సీజన్ ప‌రుగులు పెడుతోంది. ఈ వారం కూడా ఓ మూడు సినిమాలు బాక్సాఫీస్ ముందుకొచ్చాయి. వాటిలో కాస్త అంచ‌నాలున్న చిత్రం ‘పారిజాత ప‌ర్వం’. ‘కీడా కోలా’తో ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని మెప్పించిన చైత‌న్య రావు, స్టార్ క‌మెడియ‌న్ సునీల్, శ్ర‌ద్ధా దాస్ త‌దిత‌రులు ప్ర‌ధాన పాత్ర‌లు పోషించారు. టీజ‌ర్‌, ట్రైల‌ర్లు ఆస‌క్తిరేకెత్తించేలా ఉండ‌టంతో దీనిపై ప్రేక్ష‌కుల చూపు ప‌డింది. మ‌రి ఈ సినిమా క‌థేంటి? ఇది ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని ఎంత వరకూ ఆకట్టుకుంటోందో తెలుసుకుందాం.. 

క‌థేంటంటే:  హీరో కావాలన్న ల‌క్ష్యంతో భీమ‌వ‌రం నుంచి భాగ్య‌న‌గ‌రానికొస్తాడు శ్రీను (సునీల్‌). స్టూడియోల చుట్టూ కాళ్ల‌రిగేలా తిరిగినా త‌ను అనుకున్న‌ది సాధించ‌లేక‌పోతాడు. ఎలాగైనా అవ‌కాశాలు అందిపుచ్చుకోవాల‌నే ల‌క్ష్యంతో సినిమా వాళ్లు ఎక్కువ‌గా వ‌చ్చిపోయే కృష్ణాన‌గ‌ర్‌లోని ఓంకార్ బార్‌లో వెయిట‌ర్‌గా చేర‌తాడు. అక్క‌డే పార్వ‌తి (శ్ర‌ద్ధా దాస్‌) డ్యాన్స‌ర్‌గా ప‌ని చేస్తుంటుంది. ఓసారి త‌న‌కు ఆ బార్ ఓన‌ర్ నుంచి పెద్ద స‌మ‌స్య ఎదుర‌వ‌గా.. ఆమెను కాపాడ‌బోయే క్ర‌మంలో శ్రీను ఆ ఓన‌ర్‌ను చంపేస్తాడు. అప్ప‌టి నుంచి తాను బార్ శ్రీనుగా మారి సెటిల్‌మెంట్లు చేయ‌డం మొద‌లు పెడ‌తాడు. ఇత‌ని క‌థ‌నే సినిమా స్ర్కిప్ట్‌గా తీసుకొని ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వ ప్ర‌య‌త్నాలు చేస్తుంటాడు చైత‌న్య (చైత‌న్య రావు). అయితే, ఆ క‌థ కొంద‌రు నిర్మాత‌ల‌కు న‌చ్చినా.. చైతూ త‌న‌ ఫ్రెండ్ హ‌ర్ష (హ‌ర్ష చెముడు) హీరోగా చేస్తాడ‌నే స‌రికి వాళ్లంతా వెన‌క‌డుగేస్తుంటారు. దీంతో విసిగిపోయిన చైతూ త‌న క‌థ‌ను తానే నిర్మించాలనే నిర్ణ‌యానికొస్తాడు. అందుకు కావాల్సిన డ‌బ్బు సంపాదించ‌డానికి ఎవ‌రినైనా కిడ్నాప్ చేయాల‌నుకుంటాడు. త‌న‌ని బాగా అవ‌మానించిన నిర్మాత‌ల్లో ఒక‌రైన శెట్టి (శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్‌)ని ల‌క్ష్యంగా చేసుకొని.. అత‌ని భార్య సురేఖ‌ (సురేఖ వాణి)ను కిడ్నాప్ చేసేందుకు రంగంలోకి దిగుతాడు. స‌రిగ్గా అప్పుడే బార్ శ్రీను గ్యాంగ్ కూడా ఆమెను కిడ్నాప్ చేసేందుకు వ‌స్తుంది. మ‌రి ఆ త‌ర్వాత ఏమైంది? వీళ్లిద్ద‌రిలో ఆమెను ఎవ‌రు కిడ్నాప్ చేస్తారు? ఈ క్ర‌మంలో చైతూ గ్యాంగ్‌కు.. బార్ శ్రీను గ్యాంగ్‌కు ఎదురైన‌ స‌వాళ్లేంటి? సినిమా చేయాల‌న్న చైత‌న్య ల‌క్ష్యం నెర‌వేరిందా?  లేదా? అన్న‌ది తెర‌పై చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి.

ఎలా సాగిందంటే: కిడ్నాప్ చేయ‌డమూ ఓ క‌ళ‌.. అన్న‌ది ఈ చిత్ర ఉప‌శీర్షిక‌. దీన్ని బ‌ట్టి ఇందులో కిడ్నాప్ డ్రామాను ఎంత కొత్త‌గా.. ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా చూపించారోన‌న్న ఉత్కంఠ ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్లో క‌లుగ‌క మాన‌దు. టీజ‌ర్‌, ట్రైల‌ర్‌లను క‌ట్ చేసిన తీరును చూసి ఇందులో ఆ కిడ్నాప్ డ్రామా బాగా పండిన‌ట్లే క‌నిపించింది. కాక‌పోతే దాన్ని చూసి ఎన్నో అంచ‌నాల‌తో థియేట‌ర్ల‌లోకి అడుగు పెట్టిన ప్రేక్ష‌కుల‌కు ఇది శ‌రాఘాత‌మే. ఆరంభంలో క‌థను న‌డిపిన విధానం కాస్త కొత్త‌గా క‌నిపించినా.. అస‌లైన కిడ్నాప్ డ్రామా మొద‌ల‌య్యాక సినిమా పూర్తిగా గాడి త‌ప్పినట్లైంది. సాధార‌ణంగా ఇలాంటి డ్రామాల్లో క‌నిపించాల్సిన సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ‌, స‌స్పెన్స్‌, మ‌లుపులు, వేగం ఏవీ మ‌చ్చుకైనా ఉండవు. దీంతో ఏ ద‌శ‌లోనూ ప్రేక్ష‌కులు ఈ క‌థ‌తో క‌నెక్ట్ కాలేని ప‌రిస్థితి.

బార్ శ్రీను క‌థ ప‌ట్టుకొని చైతూ ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వ ప్ర‌య‌త్నాలు చేయ‌డం.. ఈ క్ర‌మంలో త‌న‌కెదుర‌య్యే అవ‌మానాలు.. మ‌రోవైపు అత‌ని నేరేషన్ ద్వారా స‌మాంత‌రంగా అదే క‌థ‌ను ప్రేక్ష‌కుల‌కు ప‌రిచ‌యం చేయ‌డం.. ఇలా సినిమాని ఆరంభించిన తీరు ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగానే ఉంటుంది. ఈ మ‌ధ్య‌లో స్టోరీ సిట్టింగ్స్‌లో వైవా హ‌ర్ష హీరో అని చెప్పిన‌ప్పుడ‌ల్లా నిర్మాత‌లు స్పందించే తీరు.. ఈ విష‌య‌మై హ‌ర్ష‌-చైతూకు మ‌ధ్య జ‌రిగే వాదనలు న‌వ్వులు పూయిస్తాయి. చైత‌న్య కిడ్నాప్ చేయాల‌ని ఫిక్స్‌ కావడంతో క‌థ మ‌లుపు తిరుగుతుంది. సురేఖ‌ను కిడ్నాప్ చేసేందుకు చైత‌న్య వేసే ప్లాన్ ఏమాత్రం ఆస‌క్తిరేకెత్తించ‌దు. కాక‌పోతే స‌రిగ్గా అదే స‌మ‌యానికి బార్ శ్రీను గ్యాంగ్ కూడా ఆమెనే కిడ్నాప్ చేసేందుకు రంగంలోకి దిగ‌డంతో విరామ స‌న్నివేశాలు కాస్త ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా మార‌తాయి. ద్వితీయార్ధంలో ఈ కిడ్నాప్ వ్య‌వ‌హారం చుట్టూ ఓ క‌న్ఫ్యూజన్‌ డ్రామాను అల్లి ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని న‌వ్వించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. అది వ‌ర్కౌట్‌ కాలేదు.  అంతేకాదు, అస‌లు శ్రీను క‌థ‌లో సినిమా చేసేంత విష‌యం ఏముంద‌న్నది ఎంత‌కీ అంతుచిక్క‌దు. అందుకే ఈ క‌థ‌తో ప్రేక్ష‌కులు ఏ ద‌శ‌లోనూ క‌నెక్ట్ అవ్వ‌ని ప‌రిస్థితి క‌నిపిస్తోంది. ఇక కిడ్నాప్ చేశాక‌.. చైతూ, శ్రీను గ్యాంగ్స్‌ శెట్టి నుంచి డ‌బ్బులు డిమాండ్ చేసే తీరు మ‌రీ సిల్లీగా అనిపిస్తుంది. క‌థ అస‌లు ఏ ద‌శ‌లోనూ సీరియ‌స్‌గా లేదు. క‌థ‌నానికి త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగానే ముగింపు కూడా ఉసూరుమ‌నిపించేలాగే ఉంటుంది.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: ద‌ర్శ‌కుడ‌వ్వాల‌న్న ల‌క్ష్యంతో జీవించే కుర్రాడిగా చైత‌న్య త‌న పాత్ర‌లో స‌హ‌జంగా ఒదిగిపోయాడు. త‌న న‌ట‌న‌ను ప‌రీక్షించే సీన్స్ పెద్ద‌గా లేకున్నా.. అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా త‌న‌దైన కామెడీ టైమింగ్‌తో మెప్పించాడు.  త‌న‌కు.. మాళ‌విక‌కు మ‌ధ్య సాగే ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌లో ఏమాత్రం ఫీల్ క‌నిపించ‌దు. వారి ట్రాక్ సినిమాకి అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా స్పీడ్ బ్రేక‌ర్‌లా అడ్డు త‌గులుతుంటుంది. సునీల్, హ‌ర్ష‌, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్‌ల పాత్ర‌లు క‌థ‌లో అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా న‌వ్వులు పంచే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాయి. సినిమా మొత్తంలో కాస్త కాల‌క్షేపాన్నిచ్చేది వీళ్లు ముగ్గురే. సురేఖ వాణి, స‌మీర్‌, ముర‌ళీధ‌ర్ గౌడ్ త‌దిత‌రుల పాత్ర‌ల‌న్నీ ప‌రిధి మేర ఉంటాయి. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు సంతోష్ రాసుకున్న క‌థ‌లో లోపాలున్నాయి. స్ర్కీన్‌ప్లేలో మెరుపు లేదు. క‌థ‌లో ఎక్క‌డా బ‌ల‌మైన సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ క‌నిపించ‌దు. కిడ్నాప్ డ్రామా పూర్తిగా తేలిపోయింది. నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. ఛాయాగ్ర‌హ‌ణం బాగుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువ‌లు క‌థ‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగా ఉన్నాయి.

Eeshwarudu OTT release date: When and where to watch Silambarasan, Nidhhi Agerwal’s film

Eeswaran was one of the first major Tamil films to have commenced shoot after the lockdown induced by the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team shot the film amidst several restrictions in record time and managed to release it for Pongal 2021. Suseenthiran directed the film that starred Silambarasan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nandita Swetha, Bharathiraaja in pivotal roles.

The rural entertainer met with a modest response on the ticket window and didn’t help itself owing to the clash with Vijay’s Master. The film was criticised for its dated plot and stereotypical execution. Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, Kali Venkat, Manoj Harish Uthaman, Stunt Siva formed the supporting cast of the film bankrolled by Balaji Kapa under D Company Production, Madhav Media.

Due to the several constraints amidst which the film released, the makers couldn’t ensure a theatrical release simultaneously in Telugu. Now, the Telugu version titled Eeshwarudu has begun streaming on Amazon Prime Video earlier this month. The OTT giant has categorised the film under the pay-per-view model and is available for viewers to watch it at Rs 79.

The sons of a village patriarch Periyasamy plan to visit him along with their families. While the protagonist, who is his caretaker, takes care of the preparations for their arrival, he stands up for the family in the hour of need. S Thaman has scored the music for the film and Tirru is the cinematographer for the same. Anthony is editor of the 123-minute long film.

The Tamil version, Eeswaran, had begun streaming on Disney+ Hotstar right in mid 2021. Silambarasan a.k.a Simbu was last seen in Pathu Thala, the Tamil remake of the 2017 Kannada hit Mufti, directed by Obeli N Krishna. The Telugu version of the film is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video too. His film with Gautham Menon, Vendhu Thanindadhu Kaadu, was dubbed into Telugu as Life of Muthu.

Eeswaran Movie Review: Simbu excels in this largely satisfying rural drama

Eeswaran isn't a great film, but director Suseenthiran gets many things right. At a time when fans are longing to witness that energetic Simbu on screen, which has been missing for years now, Suseenthiran delivers a perfect rural entertainer that serves just that. The screenplay has been developed in a manner to please both the star’s fans and family audience. Unlike the actor’s previous films, there is adequate emotion in the script which works big time.

The film begins with the introduction of Periyasamy (Bharathiraja), his wife Paapathi (Vinodhini) and their four kids, who lead a happy life in a small village near Tenkasi. The director takes almost 10 minutes to introduce his family members to the audience and these scenes are structured very similar to director Pandiraj’s Namma Veetu Pillai and Kadaikutty Singam. After his wife’s death, Periyasamy raises his kids all alone and helps them lead a better life in the city. His only request to them was to visit him every year on their mother’s death anniversary. However, their busy lives don't let them keep their promise.

After almost 20 years, Periyasamy’s sons and their family members decide to stay in their hometown for a month due to the increase in the spread of Covid-19 in Chennai. Eeswaran (Simbu), a caretaker of Periyasamy, is delighted and makes all the arrangements for them to reach home safely despite the lockdown. Eeswaran’s only motive is to safeguard Periyasamy’s family and help him to lead a peaceful life.

Trouble begins when an astrologer visits their place and predicts that their family is in danger. Much to their grief, a rape accused, who served a sentence because of Periyasamy, sends them death threats. Can Eeswaran save Periyasamy’s family or will he become the most misunderstood person in the house?

Though Eeswaran revolves around Simbu’s character, he isn't glorified. That’s one of the reasons why the film works. Bharathiraja and his son Manoj Bharathiraja (who plays the younger version of Periyasamy) occupies major screen time and it’s refreshing to watch. With Eeswaran, Suseenthiran once again proves he can make commercial films that strike a chord with all. There’s nothing quite new, and it's pretty much everything that we have witnessed before. But he has managed to put it across in a different way. The father-son sentiment, which comes in the second half of the film, is one of the highlights.

Simbu and Bala’s scenes together have worked big time and it is something to watch out for. Their comedy track helps one overlook the flaws in the film, which comes with such rural dramas. Suseenthiran also managed to incorporate a romantic track between Simbu and Niddhi Agerwal, keeping the audience engaged. Though too many characters disturb the flow of the film, the director makes sure that the screenplay is engaging. The flashback portions featuring Manoj Bharathiraja (Periyasamy) and Parvathy reveal secrets about Simbu’s past which comes as a surprise in the second half.

S Thaman’s background score has helped the audience connect with some of the emotional sequences in the film. Especially songs like Velli Nilavu and the Eeswaran title number add a lot of value to the script.

Saving the best for the last though Simbu’s last few films didn’t do well at the box office, the charm and the energy that he carries throughout this film would help him to get back his lost fans. His transformation in the lockdown did help bring back the aura that we missed in him for a long time.

It looks like the star is truly back in business. Overall, Eeswaran, is an engaging rural drama that will largely satisfy the family audience this festive season.
