Complete the Housing Application

Access the Housing Application by clicking the听 My ResLife 听link on the听.听Be sure to complete the Housing Intent and听Residency Agreement pages within the application. The housing application is due on Friday, February 2nd.

Care for each other and plan for various outcomes

Before housing selection begins, have conversations about Plan A, B, C, and D with your entire group.

Determine if you'll be part of a group

  • If you are part of a group, select a group leader who will register your group.
  • If you are听 not 听part of a group, sign up for Open Registration.听 For Open Registration you will give your top 3 preferences on where you would like to live, and will have the opportunity to give specific information if you so wish.听 In the middle of June,听you听will be informed of your assignment.听

Determine if you want to block

Blocking is a process where groups of students can request adjacent rooms. For example, a group of 16 students can "block" with the intent of living in two adjacent eight-person suites in Walsh Hall.听

Random Drawing

After registration closes, the computer system will randomly select the participants for each day. All members of the groups that participate in each drawing will receive an email informing them of their drawing results.

If your group is selected to pick a room, your group leader will receive an email with a scheduled "pick time" and other important details. There is no waitlist to move to alternate spaces after your selection. After you have selected your space, your selection is final for the next academic year.听

Open Registration

Any student that is eligible for housing during room selection, but does not wish to form a group and select a space, is welcome听to participate in Open Registration. Open Registration Sign-Up will be available for students to complete for several days before and after the group process. In the sign-up students may rank their room type preference (traditional, suite or apartment) and provide any roommate preference,听if applicable. Students will be assigned to available spaces starting in June.听

Group Selection Day

Group room selection dates, group registration and selection times:.

  • Room selection will start on Monday, March 13, and continue through Monday, March 27.
  • Groups register from 10am-1pm EST on each room type day.
  • Room selection begins at 4pm EST the day after groups register.
  • Group registration and pick times are different than previous academic years. If you have questions, please contact听 placement@bc.edu .

Group Selection Process:

Registration times for each day will begin at 10:00 am EST and end at 1:00 pm EST. Room selection pick times will begin at 4 PM EST the day after you register your group. We understand that with many students in different time zones, there may be challenges or complications with registration and selection times. If you foresee having issues with any dates or times, please let us know and we will do our best to work with you and your group.

Group Leader Responsibilities

  • The Group Leader is responsible for creating the group during group registration from 10am-1pm EST.
  • The Group Leader then verifies the group. Verified groups cannot be changed.
  • Groups will randomly be selected to participate in the group selection process.
  • If your group is selected to pick a room, your Group Leader will receive an email with your group pick time.
  • If your group receives a pick time, your group must select housing on that day
  • If your group is not selected you will be able to form a new group for another selection day.
  • You do not have to register for a room type on every听consecutive day

Helpful Hints

Don't register for housing you do not want.

Your social life will be what you make it, no matter where you live.

Pick one direct roommate and don't leave each other during the process.

Make plans where no one gets "cut out." Blocking can help with this.

Blocking allows several groups to select housing at the same time.

The number of blocked groups allowed is based on room type:

  • Two-person apartments: Four blocked groups
  • Three-person apartments: Three blocked groups
  • Four-person apartments: Three blocked groups
  • Six-person apartments: Two blocked groups
  • Eight-person suites: Two blocked groups
  • Nine-person suites: Two blocked groups
  • Six-person suites (Stayer): Two blocked groups
  • Six-person suites (Triple): Two blocked groups
  • Four-person Suites: Three blocked groups
  • Traditional style rooms: Eight blocked people

Groups must be the same size and apply for the same type of housing.

Blocked groups have one leader who registers for everyone.

Blocking does not improve or hurt your chances of housing.

Special Considerations

Living & Learning Communities

If you are interested in applying to one of our听Living & Learning Communities听be sure to complete the appropriate pages within the same Housing Application.听

Sophomore Living Experience

For the 2023-24 academic year, we are establishing a new living community in Walsh for sophomore students. If you are interested in selecting one roommate, developing relationships with new students, and confirming your housing assignment prior to room selection, this option might be good for you. If you are interested in this opportunity, please make sure that you complete that section of your housing application by Friday, February 3rd. More information about the sophomore living experience can be found below:

Housing Accommodations

Any student requesting a housing assignment based on a medical condition, psychological or physical disability must register or re-register with the Disability Services Office 听by the priority deadlines established for each semester.

To be considered for needs based housing accommodations, students should:

1. Complete the Disability Services online.

2. Submit documentation (either attach it with your online registration, or email/fax it to the Disability Services email disabsrv@bc.edu ). Please review Documentation requirements 听on their website.

3. Make an initial registration meeting with Disability Services staff. Your meeting will take place via phone/Google Hangout. To schedule a meeting please use their听. If you encounter issues, please call (617) 552-3434. (Please note that both the registration and documentation steps must be complete prior to your meeting.)

4. Documentation will be reviewed by the Office of Disability Services on a rolling basis. Students will be notified via their BC email account once their request(s) have been reviewed and a decision has been made.

I missed the Housing Application deadline. What do I do?

Room selection is a deadline-driven process and students that miss a deadline may no longer be eligible for University housing. If you do not submit your housing application听by the deadline and would still like to live in University housing, you must file a housing appeal via the MyResLife link on the听.

Where is the room selection process held?

The entire room selection process is held online, in the MyResLife area on the Agora portal.听

How does the room selection process work?

Students can choose to participate in room selection as a group (Group Selection) or as an individual (Open Registration).

There are four main parts to the Group Selection process:

Housing Application: In order to begin the room selection process, eligible students must indicate their housing intent within the returning student housing application via the MyResLife link on the Agora Portal.

Group Registration: The Group Leader registers the group for a particular room type via MyResLife. Group registrations take place between 9am and 1pm.

Room Draw: Following the close of registration, a computer-driven random drawing will select the participants for each day. All members of the groups that participate in each drawing will receive an email regarding their drawing results.

Room Pick: If a group is selected to pick a room, the Group Leader will receive an email with the scheduled time at which he/she will select next year's room assignment online. The selection will take place later that same day. If your group receives a pick time, your group must select housing on that day

After a group has picked a room, the process is over. If a group was not drawn for a particular accommodation type, that group will have to continue through the process for the next available day.听

If a student decides to participate in Open Registration instead of Group Selection, he/she must complete the Open Registration portion of the housing application, located on Agora under MyResLife.

I have three years of housing. Can I live off campus my sophomore year and live on campus my junior year?

If a student was granted three years of housing, the mandatory year off campus is junior year. Students are not permitted to change this. If a rising sophomore student with three years of housing chooses to move off-campus, he/she will have to remain off campus for both sophomore and junior years; but will be eligible to move back on campus senior year.

How do I apply for a Living & Learning Community?

Applications for Living & Learning Communities (LLC) are made available within the Housing Application. Students should answer all required questions regarding Living & Learning Communities within the Housing Application. The upperclassmen LLC options are: Sustainability, Honors, and Healthy Living Community. To learn more, please visit the Living & Learning Programs page.听

Eligibility Codes & Categories

Individual eligibility codes.

Each eligible student is given a number code based on their class year. Note that a student with one semester left to complete their degree is coded as a junior, even though their current class year is senior.

Juniors & Seniors = 1 Sophomores = 2 First-Year = 3

Categories and Blocking

Students can form groups and combine their individual eligibility codes to make a group total. The totals then fall into the categories below. Groups of students can then block together with other groups so as to share the same pick time to choose their separate rooms. Groups can only block within their own category, meaning a group that falls into category 1 can only block with another group from category 1, category 2 can only block with category 2, and so on.

Students have the option to live in mixed-gender housing groups. The free exchange of ideas and ability to make your own decisions extend beyond the classroom to all aspects of campus life, including University housing.

Some Guidelines

  • No student will be required to live in a gender-neutral room, suite, or apartment.
  • Students in gender-neutral housing can choose their roommates and those they share their dorms, suites, or apartments with.
  • Students do not need to indicate their reasons for wanting to live in gender-neutral housing.
  • Dormitory-style residences with shared community bathrooms cannot accommodate gender-neutral housing.
  • BU Housing works with new students who do not identify with their birth gender.
  • BU Housing will work with all transgender students individually on their room assignments.

Some Specifics

In keeping with the above, we’ve set the following parameters:

  • Students selecting gender-neutral assignments agree to the rules established regarding the filling of vacancies. For more information on vacancies, check out our FAQs page .
  • When creating a gender-neutral unit during the room selection, students need to fill all of the spaces within the room, suite, or apartment.
  • Gender-neutral housing is not a specialty program and does not require programmatic approval.
  • Due to shared common area bathrooms, rooms in Claflin, Rich, and Sleeper Halls; the Warren Towers complex; and The Towers cannot have gender-neutral rooms.
  • Rooms within Specialty Communities and Living-Learning Communities (except Global House) are not eligible to be gender-neutral.

How to Participate

If you want to live in a gender-neutral room, suite, or apartment, you will create a multi-gendered room selection group in the Continuing Student Housing Application section. During room selection you will have the following options:

  • Same Room Pull-In: Want to stay where you are? Pull in other students from your mixed-gender roommate group to the room you currently occupy.  For more information, read our room selection overview .
  • Gender-Neutral Community Room Selection: Looking to create a gender-neutral living space somewhere else on campus? Once the Same Room Pull-In period ends, you and your roommate group can choose from a select number of bed spaces across campus area, room size, room type, and price range. For more information, read our room selection overview .
  • First Year and Transfer students who want to live in gender-neutral housing should contact BU Housing at [email protected] , or via telephone at 617-353-3511. We also offer a Zoom or Teams meeting option.  To schedule a video consultation before making any housing decisions, please email us.

If you want to change rooms or if there is a vacancy in a gender-neutral unit, there are options to fill the unit. For more information, see the gender-neutral housing room change overview .

  • Housing Concerns
  • Community Expectations

It is our hope that students find their residential living arrangements to be a positive part of their college experience. In the event that roommate concerns or life changes necessitate a change in residence, the Residential Life office has established protocols to help students plan for a smooth transition.

Roommate Concerns

Housing appeals, leave of absence, housing accommodations.

Students should live together based upon personal compatibility factors such as lifestyles, habits, and preferences. It is the Office of Residential Life's feeling that who you live with is more important, ultimately, than where you live.

Students with roommate concerns should first speak with their Resident Assistant, who will work with them to mediate roommate conflicts. If the mediation process is not successful, students should then speak with their  Resident Director , who will evaluate the situation to determine if a room change is necessary and, if so, assist students with that process.

The university housing appeal process is available to full-time undergraduate students that do not wish to live off-campus and are requesting university housing for an additional semester/year outside of their guaranteed housing eligibility. Students are provided guaranteed academic years of housing through their admissions offer, and the guaranteed years begin with the enrollment start date. If a student does not wish to live on-campus during a guaranteed year, they are not able to transfer the housing year to another academic year. Students that appeal for university housing should select their reason for not being able to live off-campus (Financial, Returning from Leave, or Other).  Due to a limited number of available beds, we are not able to approve the majority of requests for on campus housing.

Residential Life staff review all appeals on an individual, case-by-case basis and may contact and confer with staff from other departments as needed to verify information and make decisions.  All decisions are made on an individual need basis.

Students that are submitting housing appeals should provide information about why they are unable to live off-campus. Please note that we are not able to provide on-campus housing to all students that request it. We will do our best to provide as many additional years of housing as we can. Students not initially approved may be placed on a waitlist, for the following reasons:

  • Requesting to live in university housing to live with friends
  • Requesting to live in university housing because of a busy academic and work schedule
  • Requesting to live in university housing due to student organization or club involvement
  • Requesting to live in university housing because of an internship requirement
  • Requesting to live in university housing due to not finding off-campus housing
  • Requesting to live in university housing due to dissatisfaction with prior housing
  • Requesting to live in university housing for non-specific reasons

Off-Campus Housing Resources

On the  Off-Campus Housing Database , you as a student can review apartment listings, post a roommate profile, add your own sublet listings, and review resources. Simply log in using your Agora username and password. If you have specific questions related to off-campus housing, please visit Off-Campus Student Living at  www.bc.edu/offcampus , email  offcampus@bc.edu , or call 617-552-3075.

Students living on-campus who intend to leave housing or students with a tentative or reserved housing assignment who no longer require housing must  submit a Leave of Absence form on the Agora Portal (under the "My Res Life" link)  to officially notify the Office of Residential Life of their intention to leave housing or not live on-campus. Every student submitting a leave of absence form should carefully review our Housing Cancellation Fee and Refund Policy.

Students who take a leave of absence from housing are not guaranteed a specific room assignment upon return. However, preferences will be honored whenever possible. Students taking a leave of absence from the college will be required to submit a housing appeal form once they have been readmitted as a full-time day student. Please contact  placement@bc.edu  with any questions.

A Leave of Absence is Complete When:

  • A housing leave of absence form has been electronically submitted to the Office of Residential Life via the Agora portal.
  • If you are currently living on-campus, all personal belongings and unwanted items have been properly removed from the student's housing assignment and any issued keys have been returned directly to the Residential Life central office.

A leave of absence between the  first  and  fifth  week of classes for students no longer enrolled will be in accordance with the University refund schedule, as published in the Conditions for Residency.  No refund is possible after the fifth week of classes.

Please Note: If you are a three-year housing guarantee student, you are required to live off campus during your junior year. A leave of absence in any other year cannot be substituted for your mandatory junior year off-campus.

Any student requesting a housing assignment based on a medical condition, psychological or physical disability must register or re-register with the  Disability Services Office  by the priority deadlines established for each semester.

To be considered for needs based housing accommodations, students should:

1. Complete the Disability Services  Registration Form  online.

2. Submit documentation (either attach it with your online registration, or email/fax it to the Disability Services email  disabsrv@bc.edu ). Please review  Documentation requirements  on their website.

3. Make an initial registration meeting with Disability Services staff. Your meeting will take place via phone/Google Hangout. To schedule a meeting please use their  online scheduling calendar .

Appropriate documentation must include the following:

1. A clear diagnosis from a licensed professional who is qualified to evaluate and diagnose such conditions. This professional may not be a member of the student's family.

2. Description of the student's history with this diagnosis.

3. Description of the functional impact and limitations of the disability/condition relevant to an academic setting.

4. Current treatment plan, including medications.

5. Recommendation for specific accommodation(s). **Justification for why recommended accommodation is medically necessary. There must be a very clear connection between the functional limitation(s) described and the recommended accommodation.**

6. Documentation must be in English, on the provider's letterhead, and signed and dated.

7. Documentation must be current, within one year.

Documentation will be reviewed by the Office of Disability Services on a rolling basis. Students will be notified via their BC email account once their request(s) have been reviewed and a decision has been made.

Housing Assignment

<p>I’m anxiously anticipating my room assignment, and the other day I was checking my account on the student link and it had posted that I owed $3,855 for housing for the fall semester. So total I would have to pay $7,710 which I believe is the annual cost for the non suite dormitory style rooms. So my question is does everyone who is entering their first semester have this exact cost until they are assigned or is it indicative that most likely I am in The Towers which was my second choice on the housing survey?</p>

<p>I’m not sure what your first choice was, but if it was a suite/apartment, chances were already not in your favor to get one of those freshman year. I think they only save 10% for all freshmen. With the student link charges, I’d definitely think that you were put into Towers. We’re supposed to find out for sure by July 1st, if you submitted your housing relatively early! I can’t wait to know either!</p>

<p>Well I probably should’ve clarified I’m actually a transfer. So I am going to be a sophomore. But my top three were Myles, Towers, Shelton</p>

<p>I think you’re still treated as a freshman in the housing process for your first year though.</p>

<p>Warren and Towers are great to meet people, or so I hear, for Freshman year. However, the rooms are very, very small. The walls remind me of prison cells and the lighting is dim. You also have to share the bathroom with everyone in the floor. I suggest Hojo. Plenty of Freshman get in there. There’s no dining hall, but it has Late Nite and Towers is right behind Hojo. Here are the room rates:</p>

<p>[Boston</a> University Housing](<a href=“ http://www.bu.edu/housing/living/rates/year2009-2010.html]Boston ”> http://www.bu.edu/housing/living/rates/year2009-2010.html )</p>

<p>Got assigned to the Myles Standish Annex with just one roommate. Anybody have any experience with the annex positive/ negative?</p>

<p>the annex is hard to find the first time u go. very quiet, not much hanging out in the halls like the freshman dorms. bigger rooms though. u should find out if u have a bathroom for ur room or if it’s a common one down the hall.</p>
