The Concept of Fair

Even though the world of entertainment and recreation has changed to a greater extent, and it kept on changing at a greater speed, “Fair” is still, and will always be close to our hearts. Because it is not just a place of recreation and entertainment, rather it is a traditional event that takes us to the roots of our culture in a fun and loving manner. You may be in any part of the world, but once in a year, you will be hyped about the word ‘fair’. Fair is a place where you can find all sorts of entertainment, food as well as business talk. In a fair, the mass of people gathers together, some for entertainment while some for business talk. Below is a presentation of both long and short-type essays where we will relive the moments of fair.

Essay on Fair in English

Writing an Essay on the fair is just as fun as attending the fair because it takes you on a walk-in memory lane so that you can write about it from your experience. But it is also a good idea to have some guidance while writing the essay in English, and hence Vedantu provides that Guidance to all the students for completely free.

Some information about the Fair

Fair can be considered as one of the oldest recreation activities, at least in India, in which hundreds of people gather at a time. We can trace the beginnings of the fair in 1000 AD. And the reason behind it was to boost the businesses and hence in return, it helps in boosting the overall economic condition of the country. Interestingly, the same thing can still be seen in modern times in events like that of “Book-Fairs” where the writers and readers all come together.

In modern times the fairs have taken a place of an annual break, where everyone from the city can go for recreation, and to be relaxed. Fairs are generally set for a few days or a week. More often than not, the supply of the seller’s stock comes directly from the manufacturer, and hence the things can be brought at the fair at a relatively low price. In this way both the seller and the buyer get benefits.

Things that Happen at Fair

It is important for the students to learn about the things that happen at the fair in order to write an essay on it. The first thing, one may notice in the fair is the rides, there are many rides at the fair, such as Giant wheels that takes the riders to the sky, merry go round horse ride which can be considered as an unofficial trademark of Indian Fair, stalls of Magic Tricks, many toy shops, interestingly the toys that are available in these shops are, for the most part, not available in the shops of the city. Along with these rides the store of many fun activities, such as Balloon shooting can be found in the Fair as well. Also, if you ever had visited the fair, you must refresh your memory for writing the essay on fair.

While writing about the Fair these are the things that you must take into consideration. An important thing is that we eat lots of different things at Fair, and many of them are either packet food or the food that comes in the plastic, and plastic is not good for the environment, hence you must try to avoid it.

Essay on Fair for Students

‘Fair’ this particular word takes us into an imaginary world of a big ground full of different kinds of people and different kinds of joy rides. On those rides, where people sit on them screaming with joy and amusement. We also imagine many different types of stalls which are selling dazzling earrings, fancy clothes, tasty food and even selling toys for the kids. In a coinage, fairs are a representation of these different types of people who come to sell and buy and also have fun at a single place. After all, a fair is a place where there is no boundary set for people or for fun.  Also, in another sense, we can perceive fairness as an exchange of the creativity and productivity of different cultures around the globe.

The culture of fair started somewhere between the early 1000s or 1200s. Fairs actually started as an economic activity different from the redundant business processes and activities of the year. Now the fairs are viewed as an annual break to the year when everyone in the city or town is fed up with their routines throughout the year, fair then serves as a refreshment aided with knowledge, creativity, and business. Fair is set for a multiday, this proves to be a huge benefit for all the buyers and for all the sellers, even products are supplied from the foreign merchants.

Fairs in India

The oldest fair in the history of our country, India is the ‘Kumbh Mela’ which is almost more than 2000 years old. When the planet Jupiter, and the sun, and the moon aligns, those dates are considered appropriate for this Kumbh Mela to take place. Kumbh Mela takes place every after 3 years. The Kumbh Mela in 2013 made a world-record gathering of 10 crore people. If someone is looking for beautiful and rich fabrics, shining earrings, and a variety of other things, then he must go to Pushkar Mela in Rajasthan.

A Village Fair Essay

A village fair is a colorful fair held in a small village, the fair is held during festivals, like Dussehra and Diwali. Village fairs are also held annually during the celebration of a local deity or the religious beliefs of the villagers. A village fair is generally much smaller than a city fair in appearance as well as in the activities performed. An Indian local village fair is marked by relatively small shops that are selling mostly toys and sweet items.

The hawkers who sell small toys on the hand-held wooden frames are seen roaming in the fair. Flutes, whistles, and a variety of lightweight toys are also seen in a village fair, this attracts children a lot. The Hawkers in a fair constantly play their flute or whistle in order to attract the children to buy those items from them.

Descriptive Essay About the Fair

Once in the spring season I went to a fair in my village, the fair was set up in honor of a local deity worshipped here. I wish my uncle and aunt visited the fair. As we entered the fair, I felt a different sense of enjoyment in the air, the fair was lit with a lot of hubbubs. We passed the stalls till we came to my favorite stall wherein large kadhai jalebis were being fried, the smell of the sweet made my taste buds active to savor the same. We had jalebis and kachori in the stall and went further to explore the fair. I played a shooting game where I won a beautiful flower vase. Nearby, was a shop selling big and small earrings, my aunt got a pair, the earrings had mirrors shining on them, which dazzled my sight. Walking a distance I saw a big merry-go-round where children rode the ride merrily. I stood there and watch them enjoy wondering why I grew up for now I could never sit on that merry-go-round. Instead, now I can ride the camel my uncle assured me. I enjoyed the ride on the hunch of the camel.

All was a lovely time spent well in that fair. I will carry this memory to my heart. As I proceeded towards home, I decided to share, my experience in my diary so that I can always relive the moment.

Fair, be it a city fair or a village fair, provides a fun activity to the children, as well as serves as a refreshment for the young and elderly. No doubt the fair is a fun event, but this is also a source of livelihood for the vendors who depend on this event. Many small vendors, also the hawkers depend on these fairs for their businesses. Fairs provide a platform for them to gain customers. They serve as a place for having quality time with family and friends. Parents also ensure that safety precautions are required to be properly taken before sending their children to the rides or to the ferry wheels.

A Village Fair Essay

100 Words Essay on a Village Fair

India has a large number of villages, notwithstanding the rapidly occurring urbanisation. A village fair is one that takes place within the community. It is a customary event in rural life, and often a place to unwind for those living in the villages. Village fairs, usually held annually, are held in the marketplace or in an open space. What is the purpose of a village fair? Here, villagers can buy toys, wooden utensils, clay pots, baskets, cosmetics, and more. These local fairs offer some unique attractions. Circus parties, jatra parties, puppet performances, magic shows, etc. are among the most alluring offerings. Both kids and adults have fun here.

200 Words Essay on a Village Fair

A village fair is a time of amusement for the villagers and a time away to unwind from their monotonous routine. A village fair helps small-scale trade flare up their business, encourages the local industry and agriculture to grow more. Village fairs usually have temporary markets put up where the shops sell sweets, fruits, and toys. Often, there are hawkers selling various items like those for household or personal use. Children often purchase things like toys and kites. People relish sweets like ice cream, kulfi, faluda, and more in village fairs. However, the attending villagers often need to stay careful since pickpockets taking advantage is a common occurrence in such crowded events.

The most anticipated event is a village fair, especially for children. Village fairs are like exhibitions with a lot of hustle and bustle. Weavers, artisans, blacksmiths, and carpenters often set up stalls at village fairs to sell their products and earn money. For the people of the village, a village fair is a source of enjoyment. Village fairs are an indispensable part of village life and culture. It offers not only the village where it is held, but also the adjacent communities, great entertainment options. Visitors to the fair from nearby and distant villages could be seen coming with their families and friends.

500 Words Essay on a Village Fair

Festivals and fairs abound throughout India. A village fair is a typical celebration of village life. Rural fairs still have historical value, despite the fact that they have steadily become less common owing to the influence of contemporary culture and technology.

Village fairs come as a good break to the monotonous routines of the villagers, who are often excited about them. Children enjoy sweets, and buy toys and balloons at these fairs. Both children and adults participate in games. Often, village fairs have swings and other rides that can be enjoyed by everyone alike. Jugglers perform feats and entertain audiences. A village fair also features items from cottage industries, wooden furniture, agricultural implements, etc., which greatly appeals to adults.

How is a Village Fair?

The entire fair is filled with the chatter of rural people discussing news and opinions about their village. It serves as a gathering place for people of neighbouring villages as well. Everyone is dressed to the nines in their finest attire. Women wear dazzling "dupattas" with sequin or zari work, colourful matching blouses, swirling long skirts, silver anklets that jingle on their feet, and silver bangles. In addition to the children being dressed in their brightest attire, the males also wear colourful shirts and dhotis.

Another prime attraction of a fun fair is different rides and Ferry Wheels. Miniature trains, vehicles, and horses make up the majority of the rides at a fair that are intended for children. The rides are usually painted with bright colours and adorned with lights of different colours to enhance their appearance at night. Apart from the fun activities, a fun fair has various food stalls for the children and their elder companions.

The fair's area is decorated by vibrant tents housing a variety of entertaining events, including magic shows, circus acts, stunts, and movies, among others. There are open booths for games like Throw the Ring, Air Gun Shooting, and dart shooting. Anyone who throws a ring precisely over a far-off item in such a manner that the object lands inside the ring has a chance to win a reward in the game "Throw the Ring." The winner receives the item as their reward.

Similarities Between City and Village Fairs

A village fair is similar to the fairs held in our cities, with the exception that the goods sold are tailored to the requirements and preferences of the villagers. There are stalls with a variety of goods for sale. Food stands are often the busiest, both in city and village fairs. Vendors sell various household items like "matkas," pots and pans, tiny colourful boxes for holding trinkets or medicines, and so on. Other items include clay or aluminium kitchenware. Women can often be seen bargaining and buying things that catch their attention.

My Visit to a Village Fair

Last year, I went to the Baisakhi fair in my native village. Many people from nearby villages attended the fair. Everyone appeared to be in a festive mood. Their laughter had no bounds and there was a lot that intrigued and attracted me. The locals were dressed in beautiful attire. The kids were ecstatic in every way. All around, people were laughing. The villagers sang traditional songs. I had a good time while dancing to the sound of drums.

There was a lot of excitement and commotion. The marketplace was crammed. Jugglers and rope dancers were present. They entertained the locals by performing feats and tricks. I loved the swings and my favourite were the merry-go-rounds. The fair was a medley of sounds and sights. I came across dance performances and also a wrestling match and a juggler's show. In the evening, there were races and matches. Prizes were awarded to the winners. At nightfall, the crowds began to disperse with armfuls of sweets and toys. I had a great time.

Introduction

This chapter retells a story written by Munshi Premchand. The story involves a situation that demands two close friends to make difficult choices. It addresses the question of what is more important- justice or friendship.

Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chawdhry were best friends. Both of them were respectable figures in their village. Like true friends, they supported each other in difficult times.

But once a complicated situation arose. Jumman’s old aunt went to the village panchayat regarding her demand of a monthly allowance from her nephew. She had transferred her share of property to Jumman in return for a promise to be looked after by his family. But Jumman’s wife had begun to mistreat the old woman and Jumman had dismissed her request of an allowance that would enable her to look after herself.

The old woman sought help from the villagers. She requested Algu to intervene. Algu expressed his helplessness in the situation as Jumman was his dear friend. But the woman appealed to Algu’s conscience. Algu was left torn between the need to save his friendship and to preserve justice.

At the panchayat , the Aunt nominated Algu as the head Panch . Algu was, therefore, stuck in a tricky situation. He finally overcame his dilemma and decreed that the Aunt’s demand was justified and Jumman should agree to pay her an allowance. Jumman felt Algu had betrayed his trust, thus severing their bond of friendship, and Jumman vowed revenge.

A few days later, another situation arose. A cart driver named Samjhu Sahu refused to pay the price for the bullock he had bought from Algu. Algu’s bullock had died a month after Sahu bought it. So Sahu was determined not to pay even a single penny for the dead animal.

Like the poor aunt, Algu also reached the panchayat . This time, Jumman found himself in a tight spot as he was nominated the head Panch . Jumman had an opportunity to take revenge but he also understood the importance of his position. He decided to be fair and decreed that Sahu should pay the amount, thus causing a reconciliation between the two friends.

Both Jumman and Algu choose justice over personal biases. Their story concludes that justice and truth are most important. They should not be comprised with for the sake of personal friendships.

Fair Play Summary

Fair Play Summary will take us through the life of two friends with a fair sense of justice. Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chaudhary are good friends. They are famous for their loyalty and service to each other. Jumman’s aunt transfers her property to Jumman only if he agrees to take care of her. However, after a few years, he changes and starts ill-treating her. She takes the matter to the Panchayat and chooses Algu as the head Panch. Even though he is Jumman’s best friend , he favours the truth and Jumman’s aunt wins. Jumman starts hating Algu but when another case comes regarding Algu, Jumman has to make the correct choice and give the right decision in favour of Algu despite his hatred. Thus, he realizes the position and responsibility of a Panch and says that the voice of the Panch is the voice of God.

Fair Play Summary

Fair Play Summary in English

It is a story about two best friends, Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chaudhary. Fair Play Summary will help you understand the chapter in detail. The loyalty and service of Jumman and Algu towards each other are famous throughout the village.

Being friends, they also support each other’s families. So, everyone in the village respects them a lot for this. Jumman’s aunt transfers her property to Jumman. Her only condition is that he must take care of her for the rest of her life.

Jumman agrees but after some years, his behaviour changes. He does not treat her well and she has to face a lot of trouble. He does not give her food. When things go beyond limits, she asks Jumman to give her some money every month.

It is because she wishes to run her house independently. However, Jumman does not even listen to this and insults her. With no other option left, she takes the matter to the Panchayat.

Jumman’s aunt chooses Algu to be the head Panch of her case. As Algu becomes the head Panch, he decides to speak the truth without favouring his best friend. So, the judgement is given in the aunt’s favour.

This angers Jumman and he agrees to give her the fixed monthly amount as per the judgement. Nonetheless, Jumman does not take it well and starts hating Algu. Within a few days, Algu finds himself in a tough situation.

One of Algu’s pair of bullocks dies so she sells his other bullock to Samjhu Sahu. He had to pay the money within a month’s time but the sold bullock died before the expiry of the payment’s period.

Thus, Samjho declines to pay the money to Algu. Now, Algu goes to the Panchayat to get justice. However, Samjhu Sahi appoints Jumman as the head Panch as he knows very well he is now Algu’s enemy.

But, when Algu sits at the position of the head Panch, he realizes what the position means and the gravity of the responsibility. He understands how his position is above everything in this world.

Even though Algu is afraid of losing the case, Jumman speaks the truth. Thus, the judgement is passed in the favour of Algu. Consequently, Sahu has to pay the money to Algu.

The feeling of bringing justice was so overwhelming to Algu that he declares how the voice of the Panch is the voice of God.

Conclusion of Fair Play Summary

Fair Play Summary helps us realize that justice must be equal for all. Moreover, it tells us how we must all favour the truth and understand the responsibility given to us and act accordingly.

Short Summary of Fair Play

Summary of Fair Play in English

Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chowdhry were very good friends and were greatly respected in the village. Jumman had an old aunt who had transferred her property in his name. In return, Jumman was to look after her till her last breath. But in two-three years, Jumman and his wife were tired of the old lady and started ill-treating and insulting her for food.

The aunt then decided to cook her own food and asked Jumman for a monthly allowance. Jumman refused shamelessly.

The aunt then complained to the people of the village, some laughed at her, some sympathised but nobody helped her. Even Algu said that although he respected her, he could not go against his best friend. So the old lady decided to hold a Panchayat and asked Algu also to come.

The Panchayat was held under a Banyan tree the same evening and when asked to nominate a Panch, Jumman’s aunt named Algu to the delight of Jumman. He expected the decision to be in his favour as Algu was his friend. But his happiness did not last long because Algu gave the decision in favour of the old lady and ordered Jumman to pay her a monthly allowance or return her property. This decision severed all ties between the two friends.

Jumman decided to avenge the wrong done to him. He soon got a chance. It so happened that Algu was in financial trouble so he sold one of his bullocks to Samjhu Sahu, but unfortunately the bullock died soon after being sold. Samjhu Sahu was to pay the money for the bullock in a month’s time which he refused to pay.

Algu took the case to the Panchayat where Sahu nominated Jumman as the Panch hoping that Jumman would definitely want to take revenge and hence will take the decision in his favour. As soon as Jumman became the head Panch, he realized the responsibility attached to this seat of honour. He decided fairly in favour of Algu and ordered Sahu to pay for the bullock.

Algu was overjoyed. The two friends embraced each other. They agreed unanimously that a Panch has no friend or enemy. He knows only justice.

English Essay on “India: Land of Festivals and Fairs” Full Length Essay, Paragraph, Speech for Class 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 Exam.

India: land of festivals and fairs.

India, the land of varied cultures and traditions is a land of festivals and fairs. It is a land of festivity – religious as well as folkloristic. Whether you go to the East or the West, North or the South you ‘would be able to enjoy every month a festival or a fair. Be it cultural or religious, it gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy and join the festivity.

Festival is the time to rejoice and have fun. Many festivals celebrate the various harvests, commemorate great historical figures and events, while much express devotions to the deities of different religions.

Every celebration centres around the rituals of prayer, seeking blessings, exchanging goodwill, decorating houses, wearing new clothes, music, dance and feasting.

In India, every region and every religion has something to celebrate. The festivals reflect the vigour and lifestyle of its people. Vibrant colours, music and festivity make the country come alive throughout the year.

The emphasis laid on the different festivals differs in different parts of the country. For instance, Navaratri is celebrated with maximum fervour in West Bengal as compared to that in other parts of the country. Holi is celebrated with gusto in the north, and although it is also observed in the western and eastern parts of India, in the south it is almost unknown.

There are also a few regional festivals like Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Onam in Kerala and the various other temple festivals devoted to the specific patron Gods and Goddesses of the temples, which are celebrated exclusively in those areas which may be limited to one or a few villages.

The galaxy of festivals that exist does contribute to inter-spicing Indian life with gaiety and colour as also in giving the country the distinction of having the maximum number of holidays. In this chapter, you would find a selection of the major festivals. But there are countless others not included in the list. For further information, please contact the Indian Tourist Office. The Indian calendar is a long procession of festivals; if you can find yourself in the right place at the right time, it is possible to go through your visit with a festival each day.
