My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

Tips for Writing a "What I Did on Vacation" Essay

  • Writing Essays
  • Writing Research Papers
  • English Grammar

  • B.A., History, Armstrong State University

Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

Pakistan is a country filled with warm people and deep traditions. My vacation to Pakistan allowed me to obtain a first-hand experience of the different aspects of its culture, such as the food, clothes, music, and historical places. During my vacation, I was able to visit all four province of Pakistan: Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Even though all four provinces have their own history and unique culture, they all share a common humanity and tenderness for people and their land. The purpose of this paper is to offer a first-hand experience of the different cultures and traditions in each of the four Pakistan provinces.

The first province of Pakistan that I visited was Punjab. I was very especially excited because my mother and father both have a Punjabi background. The people in Punjab were especially warm and kind-hearted, and eager to share their customs with us. During my stay in Punjab, I had the opportunity to attend a beautiful and lavish wedding that lasted for 15 days. The wedding in Punjab was very different than most weddings in the United States. The actual marriage ceremony occurred on the first day. The next five days consisted of dancing, music, different competitions, and games. After that, there was a bridesmaid party, a bachelor party, a and a night out for the families of the bride and groom. To me, it was not like going to a wedding, but rather watching a beautiful fairy-tale movie.

During the rest of my stay in Punjab, I visited the city of Lahore. My family and I took the opportunity to really explore it. I was excited to visit the most famous Wagah border ceremony, or the “beating retreat ceremony.” The ceremony is a power-packed parade by Pakistani Rangers and takes place every evening before the sunset. In my opinion, the beating retreat ceremony is one the best experiences and is a “must-have” destination for foreigners and native Pakistanis.

After visiting Punjab, I traveled to the province of Sindh. The Sindhi culture is unique because it has roots in Indus valley civilization. While staying in Sindh, I attended a Sindhi musical concert hosted by one of the most famous Pakistani music legends Abida Parveen. Her voice was magic; the type of Sufi songs she sang sent peace to my soul. The Sindhi people were so kind-hearted and readily welcomed me into their lives. One example of their unique customs is the traditional and very expensive gift exchanging ceremony. The Sindhi people always give a traditional and expensive Sindhi shawl and hat to their guests or anyone who becomes attached to them. In addition, the Sindhi outfits are very different than in any other Pakistani provinces. Most of the Sindhi outfits are white and reddish color with traditional prints. Witnessing so many people in these unique and beautiful clothes make the Sindhi culture seem that much more peaceful and mesmerizing.

After visiting Sindhi, I traveled to the province of Baluchistan. At first I was struck by its vastness. Baluchistan is an area of barren lands, mountains, and desert. The Baloch culture is known for its traditional arts and crafts, festivals, and storytelling. The people of Baluchistan speak the Balochi language. The roots of the Balochi language are from the Iranian culture. During my stay in Baluchistan, I had a chance to visit Balochi fair. I was amazed at all of the vibrant colors; yet there was something soft and refreshing about the experience. People dressed very pleasingly in white loose salwar, or pants, and a long white knee-length shirt. Some men even wore beautiful turbans. Women wore knee-length shirts with intricate embroidery in the front. The embroidery consisted of embedded round mirror-work. Baluchi women had to wear a long dubbata, or scarf, to cover their hairs and shoulders. I was surprised to find that in Baluchistan, men and women ate separately. Men were served first, and then women were able to eat their food. Another difference was that in Balochi culture, men0 have more freedom of speech than women. Other than the inequality of men and women, the Balochi culture is very peaceful and colorful.

My last visit was to the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The people of KPK are known for their hospitality and relaxed attitudes. During my stay in KPK, I visited their famous markets, which have a huge variety of goods at traditionally low prices. Even though I was only able to stay for two days in KPK, I found the visit to be very stress-relieving. The environment was peaceful and very clean. During my stay in KPK, I had a chance to drink the most famous tea of KPK, the Peshawari Kawa. The Peshawari Kawa is a traditional green tea, served in tiny cups with a small amount of saffron. KPK is very different than all the other provinces due to its serene atmosphere. I would have liked to have extended my stay in KPK. However, I but am glad that KPK was the last province that we visited, because it gave us a chance to recuperate for our long trip home.

Experiencing Pakistan was a chance not only for me to explore my family’s history, but to also better understand their culture. Even though there is some tension and conflict between the United States and the Middle East, experiencing Pakistan first-hand allowed me to appreciate its people as individuals. The Pakistani culture was warm and inviting, and each province had their own unique tradition. I feel blessed; because not only that I was able to better understand my heritage, but that I am now able to able to say with authority that people in Pakistan are not like the stereotype portrayed in the media. Pakistanis are warm and welcoming, and the fact that this blood flows through my veins fills me with a sense of pride.

How to Write an Essay on How You Spent Your Summer Vacation

Last Updated: January 4, 2020

This article was co-authored by Alexander Peterman, MA . Alexander Peterman is a Private Tutor in Florida. He received his MA in Education from the University of Florida in 2017. This article has been viewed 52,581 times.

Writing an essay on how you spent your summer vacation is a classic way of starting a new school year. Think about this essay as an opportunity to tell a story about your summer while reflecting on the experiences you had. Choose a memorable moment you had this summer and start crafting your essay, giving as many details as possible.

Choosing a Topic

Step 1 Look back on mementos you kept from the summer.

  • These can also make nice visual aids if you are asked to present your essay.

Step 2 Make a list of the things you’ve done over summer vacation.

  • A list might be full of things like babysitting, attending a camp, working at a local store, taking a road trip, etc. This type of brainstorming can help you pick major events and other important moments from your summer.

Step 3 Write about a memorable moment.

  • For example, maybe you spent your summer traveling around Japan. Think of a memorable moment you had while traveling — maybe you walked up a mountain in the pouring rain — and write about this moment, adding lots of details.

Step 4 Create an outline...

  • For example, if you're writing about spending time at the beach, your outline could remind you to talk about the sandcastle building contest you entered, the dolphins you saw, and the ice cream you ate every day.
  • Details might be what the other sandcastles looked like, how far away the dolphins were, and what kind of toppings were on your ice cream.
  • Your outline is just to help you organize your thoughts — it can be written by hand or typed.

Crafting the Essay

Step 1 Focus on your feelings, interactions, and thoughts.

  • Instead of saying that you worked in a pet store, ate a PB&J sandwich, and walked home every day, talk about more than just your actions. You could talk about which pets are your favorites to work with, how it felt to eat the same sandwich every day, or what you thought about on your walk home.

Step 2 Use your 5 senses to explain your experiences.

  • Using sensory details like these will help your readers visualize and engage with your writing. These help your audience make your experiences feel real to them, even though they weren't there.

Step 3 Describe activities you did in each place you went.

  • For example, instead of saying “I went to the beach this summer,” try saying “I spent my summer swimming in the frigid water at Virginia Beach.” The more details you can provide, the more engaged your reader will be.

Step 4 Choose precise, descriptive adjectives.

  • Instead of saying “the burger was really good,” you could say, “the burger was juicy and filling.”

Step 5 Revise and edit your essay carefully.

  • Don't just rely on spellcheck. It will help catch some errors, but it will miss some things, too.
  • Ask a parent or other adult to read over your essay too, if you'd like.
  • Setting your essay aside for a little while will give you a fresher perspective when you go back to revise it.

About This Article

Alexander Peterman, MA

If you need to write an essay on how you spent your summer vacation, there are simple ways to take your writing to the next level. Choose a moment that stands out to you, like playing at the park with your friends or watching a movie you enjoyed. Think about all the feelings and thoughts you had, and use them to write sensory descriptions that will take the reader on the journey with you. Use your introduction to set the scene and draw your reader in. Then, use each paragraph to explore different aspects of your favorite moment. For example, if you won a video game competition with your friends, you can talk about the rivalry between you, the rounds of the game, and how you celebrated. The sign read “Grizzly Bear Scene: June 15”. It was June 16th. The sign was posted to the billboard at the head of Flattop Mountain Trail. Hikers are required by law to post to the trailhead when they see a bear. A bear had been sighted at this trail the day before. This was a typical day hiking in Alaska. This was a typical day on the best vacation I ever had. Alaska is a place full of adventure and life. Its exciting wild areas and vast expanses of unexplored territory truly make it the Last Frontier. Yet, it is also a place where few people choose as a vacation destination. Few people decide to make Alaska their goal. Most tend to opt for beaches or theme parks or islands. People are mistaken to avoid such a beautiful, complex, and wondrous place and instead go to cliché vacation spots. Why Alaska? That is the question I repeatedly asked my parents when they announced we would be vacationing there for an entire month. In June 2009, my family and I boarded a plane to Alaska, where we would stay for a full month. The first thing I noticed is that it only gets dark at night for about two hours. The sun stays in the sky well past midnight and it reappears shortly after it sets. This feature alone is enough to give Alaska a strange and surreal feeling. The whole state has a kind of surreal, otherworldly feeling. As soon as the place touches down, you notice that something is different about this place. It simply doesn’t feel like the rest of the western world. It is surely one of the few places where a trip to Walmart can find you trampled by a moose. The trip started with an exploration of the city of Anchorage. Anchorage is not that capital of Alaska, but it is the largest and most populated city. Anchorage is a city of about 500,000 people. Alaska has a population a bit larger than one million and half of that population lives in Anchorage. It is an odd city. It is small and yet it still retains the particular feeling and life of a city. It certainly has particulars that set it apart and give it a true Alaska feeling. We went to museum and hunting stores and Walmart (just to see what Walmart is like in Alaska). The city was our base camp, but it was only the beginning. The next few weeks would take us far beyond the contours of civilization. One interesting thing about the city is that since the sun stays high in the sky far past midnight, the city tends to stay awake with it. Going to a late night movie in broad daylight is truly a surreal experience, especially when the sky is still bright when you leave the movie. Most of the younger people tend to stay out late into the night. They say that this is because darkness is what tells our brains that it is time to sleep. We were told that Anchorage is the most sleepless city in America, although no official studies were produced. We enjoyed hanging out in to the city late into the night and found that the businesses had adapted to the upside down schedules and most of them stayed open all night. One day in the city, we went to a bowling alley. Other than the fact that we went at three in the morning because the place was twenty-four hours, it was pretty much a standard bowling alley, except for the fact that the interior was covered in bears. It was like the interior decorating committee decided to use only bears in their decorated and when they finished, they got even more bears and stuffed them in too. It was bizarre. There were bears at the entrance, in the bathrooms, at the bar. They even had stuffed bears sitting in the seats (taking up space) so that you were literally sitting next to a bear that used to be alive. Apparently, the state of Alaska had an abundance of bear carcasses and the downtown bowling alley volunteered to take care of literally every single one of them. After a few days in the city, we made our way North toward the wilder part of the state. We drove amongst beautiful, gigantic mountains that dwarfed any landscape I had ever seen. I realized that I had never actually seen a mountain before Alaska. The difference between a mountain and hill is quite grand. We drove past wild places, mountain lodges, and even bear/moose crossing signs. We even had to stop our car for a while to let a moose cross the road. There was one section of road where we past a section that claimed simply to be called “The Marshes.” The signs said that this was one of the most dangerous parts of the state. While the marshes looked like a wet, sandy beach, they were actually extremely dangerous. Tourists often went walking on them and sunk in the sand or got stuck and drowned in the tide. Once someone ends up in The Marshes, it is nearly impossible to get them back out, especially racing against time as every night the tide rolls in and covers them in many feet of water. One day, while we camped out in the woods, we met another family from Florida who seemed to simply be copies of us from another state. We stayed at the sight for two days and hung out with our newfound friends. They took us down to the river to go fishing for king salmon. We did not catch a single fish that day, but we had a great time in our failure. They swore repeatedly that king salmon fishing was easy and we were bound to catch many fish. Then, when we caught none, they swore that this was simply an odd day for fishing. We fished again the next day to the same result. No one caught a single fish. Once again, they swore this was not typical. In the end, we decided the family was cursed and simply was not meant to be king fishermen. Another day, we made our way up Flattop Peak and at the top we found a bunch of white stones had been arranged into the words, “Will You Marry Me?” It was a lovely gesture and we figured that some couple must have had a special moment at some point. A few minutes into our stay at the top a man and woman showed up walking hand in hand. They walked right up to the stones and it seemed like we might not have missed the engagement at all. Sure enough, the man dropped to one knee and the couple were engaged right there in front of us. It was a lovely moment in front of a breathtaking view. They even asked us to take their picture for them. Some things simply cannot be planned, yet these moments can be the most memorable and meaningful ones. At Juneau, we boarded a train that took us on a scenic tour of the wilderness. This was a comfortable yet fascinating way to view a wild and new place. The train was made for tourists and ran for the singular purpose of showing off the gorgeous Alaskan wilderness. For this reason, it did not run directly to its destination. Instead, the tracks were built through some of the most beautiful areas in the state, winding through seemingly endless mountains and valleys. The train had a second floor made only of glass windows that showed the gorgeous landscapes in all their glory. We ended up in a small tourist town that used to be a bustling mine. The mine was now abandoned and used as a tourist attraction. It made for an interesting afternoon of exploring deep caves. We ate all kinds of strange and adventurous foods, like moose and bear and other exotic meats. However, none of this excitement matched the most interesting and memorable part of our trip. Of course, the longer you spend in Alaska, the more you read about people who have been eaten or mauled in bear attacks. You start to notice the news stories about people who went hiking and never came back, only to have their remains found on some nearby trail. I still wonder why we actually chose to go hiking in those places where people actually did die in bear attacks, yet that is what we did. We were greatly rewarded for it. Fortunately, not one of us was eaten by a bear. Those hikes remain as some of my fondest memories of a truly amazing experience. We found places throughout that month that were unlike anything we had ever seen. From breathtaking views to hidden waterfalls, we saw things we will likely never seen again. For that, hiking will always stand out as the high point in a truly wonderful trip. Often times, it is the simple things that are the most meaningful. One does not have to spend tons of money to make great memories. Alaska has been called the Last Frontier for its vast, unsearched spaces. It has been called the North Star, for its presence above the United States as a beacon to the north. Less positively, it has been called Seward’s Folly, demonstrating the true lack of foresight that some had regarding the land. I do not know what I would call it, but for me, Alaska will always feel like a small piece of home. The places we walked and talked and laughed and the feelings I had in those places are something that cannot be repeated or replicated. They live in my nostalgia and memory like simmering coals. They are delicate. To blow on them in hopes of relighting their fire would only quench their glow. What is it that makes Alaska so special? Why Alaska? I still cannot answer, but I suppose that is why they call it a personal experience. I suppose that is why it was the best vacation I ever had.

How to Write a Summer Vacation Essay

Summer break is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy yourself and, if you’re lucky, to go on an awesome trip! But how can you translate your amazing vacation into a narrative essay for English class or work it to fit a common application prompt? Here’s some tips to help you out:

Save Mementos From Your Summer

Even if you’re not the sentimental type, make sure to document your summer travels. Take pictures, write diary entries, save train stubs. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll remember your summer well enough to look back and write about it later.

Write an Outline Before Writing Your Essay

Regardless of whether you spent your summer break in Madison, Wisconsin or Madrid, Spain, you should plan out what you’re going to write before diving in. Make a list of what you’ve done over the summer so that you can later narrow down a focus for the essay itself. Keep in mind that the best essay topics aren’t always on the most exciting activities an essay about getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport on the way to Denver could work better than an essay on hiking the Grand Canyon and looking out at the incredible view.

Be Specific

Since you’re going to keep a record of your trip and come up with an outline before writing your essay, you should be able to put some detail into your essay. Be as specific as possible when it comes to your word choice. If you’re talking about some gelato that you ate in Italy, don’t say that it was “delicious.” Instead, say that it was “creamy and chocolatey, with a note of vanilla.”

Focus on Feelings About Your Trip, Not What You Did

If you spent the summer on the beach in Cape Cod, you shouldn’t write about what you did. You should write instead about how you felt while there. An essay that reads “I went to beach, then had lobster for dinner” is not quite as exciting as one that goes, “As I went for a walk on the beach, I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy nature.” Feelings translate better into text than events, and you should try to place those feelings into context.

Stick to Writing About a Small Moment

With any essay you write especially a short one it’s important to focus a narrow moment in time. Don’t write about your entire week in Paris. Instead, write about the moment you got lost in the city at midnight and fumbled your way home in the dark. You don’t have to pick a particularly glamorous moment from your trip, but you should pick one that meant something to you.

Edit Your Essay Carefully

The shorter the essay, the more important precision is. Regardless of length, make sure to carefully read over what you’ve written to make sure every sentence conveys the message you most want displayed. The editing process matters just as much as the writing process, even if it seems less so.

“T he roots of vegetables … attach them fatally to the ground,” the philosopher George Santayana wrote in his 1964 essay “The Philosophy of Travel.” “They are condemned like leeches to suck up whatever sustenance may flow to them at the particular spot where they happen to be stuck.” I don’t know why Santayana was so hateful toward vegetables, but I understand what he means: that to travel is to be fully human.

Clearly, millions of Americans agree: Nearly a quarter say what they miss most from before the pandemic is travel. Now that COVID-19 case numbers remain low and more than half of American adults are fully vaccinated, the country is looking to the summer travel season with great gusto. In a survey of 2,000 Americans fielded by Motel 6 this spring, 60 percent of respondents said they have a stronger desire to take a trip this year than in previous years. Nearly everyone I meet asks if I have summer vacation plans, a question that just a couple of years ago would have sounded quaintly European .

After so many months of travel restrictions, the pressure is on to have a vacation that isn’t just okay—we need our first big post-quarantine sojourn to be great. To that end, I propose a quick guide to designing the happiest possible summer travel. Everyone wants different things from their vacations, but the research offers some universal clues about what sorts of holidays will help you most joyfully shed your inner vegetable.

If the end of the coronavirus shutdowns stimulates more vacation travel than normal, it may simply return Americans to the late 20th century, when American adults took, on average, 20.3 vacation days a year, according to the U.S. Travel Association. By 2018, the annual average had fallen by 14 percent, to 17.4 days. And lest you think this is all due to rotten work rules, Americans left 768 million vacation days voluntarily unused in 2018. Some of this is company-specific, in places that reward people for leaving their days off unused, but I believe much of it can be blamed on a national culture that valorizes work .

Read: Why more vacation doesn’t always mean happier workers

Skipping vacation may be common, but it’s a mistake for well-being. In 2012, a study published in the journal Annals of Tourism Research showed that vacations increase perceived quality of life for most people more than health, money, family, and work, losing out only to spiritual life. Of course, one needs health and money for vacation, and being with people we love is key to a good getaway, so these things can’t be effectively disentangled. This effect may be short-lived, as we will see below. But temporary or not, the big point remains that most people find that vacations enhance their happiness.

In order to ensure that your particular trip makes you happy—and to avoid a vacation from hell —you have to understand the characteristics of vacations that tend to bring the greatest enjoyment, satisfaction, and sense of purpose. Here are nine rules to follow for a great vacation this summer.

1. Discern your motive.

Different people enjoy different vacation spots, depending on their tastes, their associated memories, and even their psychological wiring. One study shows , for example, that introverts tend to prefer the mountains while extroverts prefer the beach. (This seems obvious, considering which group is more likely to be comfortable getting almost naked in front of strangers.)

Read: What will we want when we can travel again?

One way to find your ideal spot, based on a 2015 study of Danish tourists, is to start by identifying the vacation motive that most appeals to you: exploration, escape, seeing family and friends, prestige, nature, or history and heritage. (One caveat: Based on rule No. 6 below, if your motive is prestige, best to reconsider.) No matter your motive, you will get more from your vacation if you share it with the people you love.

2. Savor the anticipation.

One of the happiest parts of vacation is the planning. Dutch and Chinese research shows that vacationers already see a significant happiness advantage over non-vacationers in the weeks leading up to their holiday. In fact, a large body of evidence indicates that one of the greatest sources of happiness from a pleasurable activity is its anticipation. Some neuroscientific research suggests that anticipation stimulates one of the brain’s reward-processing regions called the nucleus accumbens. Use that to your advantage by setting up your vacation agenda in advance, and studying up on your destination. But keep in mind that too much anticipation can backfire if you imagine your vacation will put you in a state of constant bliss.

Rick Steves: I’m traveling, even though I’m stuck at home

3. Manage your expectations.

Time away may raise your perceived well-being, but that high doesn’t usually last. In truth, the satisfaction we gain from getting away tends to wear off fairly quickly. A 2010 study of Dutch vacationers found that while on holiday, people are healthier, less stressed, more energetic, more satisfied, and in better spirits. Unfortunately, those effects largely disappeared during the first week back at work. Some studies find a longer-lasting effect, but annual vacations are clearly not a long-term fix for what ails us in our daily lives.

4. Break your trip into vacation-ettes.

One way to deal with the fleeting afterglow of a trip is to take more frequent, shorter vacations . That way, the pleasant punctuations in well-being will be spread out over time, even if they fade. Research shows that this strategy can bring vacationers a higher life satisfaction and a better mood overall. This might mean opting for multiple long weekends at the Jersey Shore instead of one epic journey to Borneo. Maybe that sounds wrong, or even boring, especially if you’ve been to the Jersey Shore many times. If so, your mind could be tricking you into overweighting novelty in your happiness calculus.

Henry Wismayer: A future without long-haul vacations

5. Take fewer pictures.

Experimental research from 2019 showed that when people were engaged in highly enjoyable activities, they typically had more fun when they did not take pictures. The authors speculated that, by trying to document their experience, the participants unwittingly distracted themselves. Taking a million pictures on vacation so that in the future you can reminisce about the past is a great way to miss out on the present.

6. Don’t post.

If you’re dead set on photographing your trip, make sure you’re doing it to savor the experience later, not share it on social media now. Research published in 2018 in the Journal of Consumer Research showed that taking pictures with the intent to share them on social media leads people to enjoy their experiences less because it increases “self-presentational concern.” In other words, you are distracted from the beauty of the beach and fun with your family by worrying about how you look to others. Take a vacation from concern about what other people think.

Annie Lowrey: Too many people want to travel

7. Leave work at home.

Vacation can be hard on workaholics . One way they sometimes cope is to take along a little work, with an excuse such as “This way, emails won’t pile up.” Don’t do it. This strategy won’t just lower your satisfaction during the trip; you’ll also have a worse vacation hangover when you come back. In a study in the journal Stress and Health , researchers found that engaging in work-related activities lowered the positive effects of vacation measured one, three, and 10 days after “returning” to work. Taking a mental break from work is one of the main points of vacation; we fail to achieve that goal when we are unwilling to disengage.

8. Come home early.

To prolong the happiness benefits of vacationing, researchers have found that easing back into your work routine is better than traveling up to the very last second. One study of Austrian tourists found that stress-free days at home are more highly correlated with a sense of recuperation than even the vacation days spent away from home. This suggests that you should come home before the weekend rather than returning on a Sunday with a full workweek ahead. Leo Tolstoy once said, “Happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon and the last day of your vacation.” By this he presumably did not mean that you should feel scared and stressed out, but rather hopeful and rejuvenated. You have a better chance of doing so if you don’t spend the final hours of your trip dreading what awaits you the second you step off the plane.

9. Brace yourself when you return.

If all goes well and you have a great vacation, you will have increased your enjoyment and life satisfaction over your status quo. That’s the good news. The bad news is that coming back to ordinary life might be surprisingly disappointing, like eating a strawberry after a piece of candy. A 2013 study from Purdue University found that vacationers can become less content with their friends, home, interpersonal relationships, neighborhood, and even themselves after returning.

The best way to prepare for this letdown is to understand that such a reaction is to be expected, and not necessarily an indication that something in your ordinary life is seriously amiss. I have a policy of not making any significant changes in my life for at least two weeks after vacation, to allow time for my happiness meter to return to normal. You might want to try setting similar rules for yourself. After all, the goal is not just a great post-quarantine holiday, but a post-pandemic routine that is happier too.

My last vacation essay

Vacation is something wonderful and enjoyable and you can use it to spend enjoyable and useful times that make you feel relaxed  and all that gives you a push forward so that you can complete your work or study, all of this you will find here in My last vacation essay .

  My last vacation

When the exams are over, the parents start looking for places to spend their vacation with family. They need to take a break from work and the continuous pressure of life in order to try to recharge the body so that they can continue to work actively.

I am a person who loves to travel to different countries and to know different cultures and traditions. I have traveled in the past vacation to many different countries and I enjoyed very much to know about these countries. I will tell you about these countries  and the advantages of each country of them.

Jordan has a Mediterranean climate; in the winter, temperatures often reach 1 ° C, rain falls and sometimes snow falls;  So it is advisable to visit Aqaba and enjoy its warm atmosphere and beautiful beach, and visit the famous Wadi Rum and pink Petra carved in rock.

While in the summer temperatures reach an average of 30 degrees Celsius, so it is recommended to visit the mountain highlands in the Ajloun and Jerash, where the temperature is moderate.

The Egyptian Arabic Republic

It contains many famous and ancient tourist sites,  You can go on a trip to Cairo to enjoy the ancient monuments of the region, such as churches and ancient mosques.

Visiting the pyramids located in Giza is one of the greatest built by the Pharaohs. But avoid sunny and hot days to enjoy exploring the pyramids, walking the desert sands, riding horses and camels, and taking a tour of the Khufu ship or the sun boat.

I really enjoyed visiting all of these areas ,and took advantage of a lot of information that I did not know before, and I hope that everyone goes to these picturesque areas.

My last trip essay

My last trip was to the Maldives. I woke up one day to a loud voice from my mother who was happy and asked us to come.

So I told her what’s going on, Mom, she simply said (Write your name). We are going on vacation to the Maldives. Gosh, there’s this crazy, jumping, happy, dancing moment.

We all talked to my father before that we wanted to go to the Maldives, but because of his permanent work, we could not go. So it was surprising to go on vacation outside the town, especially to the Maldives.

I am very happy with this trip. I enjoyed a lot of swimming in the wonderful turquoise water, which you can see the smallest details through.

We stayed on the island of Mali, which is one of the most beautiful places in the Maldives. Where there are some exciting  areas .

I also enjoyed very much visiting Isidhu and spending all night there. The place was very cool, candles near the water and sitting on the floor everything was great. I liked this place very much and the drinks also.

At the end of the trip, we went to the National Museum, where I enjoyed learning a lot about some wonderful information about the former civilization of the Maldives and its origins.

It was great to have a trip like this and I hope to do it again.

Write a paragraph on my last vacation

My last vacation was so amazing. My name is(..). I study in class (..). I loved the last trip that I and my family took. We went to visit and entertain cancer patients. We agreed to go on vacation for my father and mother, and bring some presents for young children so that they are happy with it. We already knew about such visits from a family member.

My father told us that there is a social responsibility in our visits to cancer patients. And that there is respect for time and we should not prolong our visit. We must go with a smile and carefully choose the type of dress and speech so as not to affect the psyche of others.

My father also warned us not to show any kind of pity, because that affects the patient’s psychology very much. So it was very important that we pay attention to all these things.

We went there and all our concern was to add a smile to them and to help them through support and love. We spent the day with them but my happiest moment was when I managed to make the first person I met smile. That upset me so much.

This day is one of the most beautiful days for me, and it was a very useful holiday because it makes us feel the suffering of others. I would very much like to repeat this visit and support them a lot and make friendships with them.

Short paragraph on my last vacation

My last vacation was very interesting as I was able to participate in one of the activities that I dreamed of participating in for a long time.

I love to play tennis a lot. I joined one of the small clubs in my area to learn this game and train until I can become professional.

The coach told us that there is an upcoming tournament and we can participate in it to determine our level. So I loved joining so much and told him I wanted to join.

Indeed, I was able to participate and train well before the tournament to raise my level of concentration and improve my general level.

At the time of the championship, I was fully prepared, and I went and played with confidence and happiness, despite feeling a little scared, but I quickly recovered myself and managed to win and get the third place. I am looking forward to improving my level in the upcoming tournaments and achieving first place.

Paragraph about last vacation

Last vacation I was able to enjoy a lot visiting my grandfather’s town and gathering to attend a relative’s wedding. I enjoyed a lot getting to know my family members, talking and getting close to my ancestors.

They miss us so much because of the distance between us. We live in the city of (type the city name here). My grandfather lives in the city of (type the name of the city). So we travel there by train,

I really loved riding the bullet train and seeing the countries between us. I really liked the simple life in their city. There are many green spaces and wide spaces, and there is no big traffic congestion like my city.

I was able to learn to use the kite, and I found that all of my relatives enjoy playing it more than electronic games, and they race to raise it high in the air, and the person who can lift it the most is the victor.

So I liked it so much I laughed and had fun and ran a lot more than ever. I would very much like to try again.

Describe Your Last Vacation

My last vacation did not have many outings and activities, or traveling abroad due to the Corona pandemic. But I can describe it as wonderful because the family members were able to gather and enjoy some simple games and talk.

It was a special holiday filled with popcorn and sweets and watching modern movies. I enjoyed a lot of playing cards with my father and my grandfather who was a big fraud and I didn’t know about that. He made me laugh a lot and I learned some tricks from him.

I loved sitting at home this holiday too because I was able to help my mum make more food and learned some great new recipes.

I find that it is a wonderful vacation despite the absence of my friends around me or being in luxury places or tourism in other cities . We enjoyed the simple things and the holiday went by without any problems.

Essay about my last vacation

There is no doubt that I liked my last vacation very much, as I was able to get to know my family members from my father’s side during this vacation.

He had many relatives living in the same town but we don’t know each other or even know what we look like, So my father decided to take me and my younger sister and go to stay in the family house and invite the family to gather and get acquainted, so that the younger generations can get to know their relatives and their children, and make friendship.

So we stayed at my grandfather’s house near the lake and enjoyed a lot of barbecue and some fun activities. I would very much like to repeat this experience. It is good to feel that you are with your family and get to know them.

What i did during last vacation essay

Every year I learn a lot of experiences, both good and bad, from which I gain some experience. The last vacation was the best for me, because I was able to benefit a lot from it and learn some new skills that may benefit me in the future, such as learning how to prepare  sweets.

Last holiday I was able to participate in a training course to teach the preparation of sweets professionally. I was able to take back a lot from it as I learned to prepare all kinds of dough, learned how to prepare the cream and coordinate the cake to look completely professional.

I was very happy to learn this craft and I feel that in the future I can benefit from it in one way or another. I am thinking of creating a website or a YouTube channel and posting recipes and preparation methods to teach others Through it.

I work to improve my speaking and public speaking skills and gain some fame in this specialty. Maybe it will be my field of work in the future.

My last vacation with my family

It is great to take advantage of the time we spend in a gathering with the family, especially if it is long. I can say that the last holiday was a long time gathering with my family members due to the spread of the Corona virus.

Therefore, staying in homes was semi-compulsory by the state, and going out only for necessities, and preventive measures must be taken before leaving and returning.

Therefore, there were dangers to my father or mother whenever they went out to fetch food or any other living requirements. So I am very grateful to them.

It was great to be with my family for a long time. In the beginning, it was very difficult and there was some negative energy because we used to go out and do many outdoor activities.

But after a while, sitting became more comfortable, and we became involved in some home activities and hobbies, which helped in soothing the atmosphere, and getting out of boredom and depression.

I really enjoyed doing some activities with my mum like doing yoga, preparing famous meals and playing cards. I found her very cool at that and I didn’t know it, she always beats us and knows a lot of good tricks and moves.

Write about your last vacation

My last vacation was not very interesting, despite the slow return to life after the spread of the deadly Corona virus, however, many families still avoid going out, mixing, and exposing their children or themselves to danger.

Therefore, I could not do many of the normal activities that I used to do before, we only watch TV, play some video games and talk on the Internet.

Certainly there are some happy moments that happen inside the house when all the family members gather and prepare some entertaining meals. We can then perform some games or scenes to add a nice family atmosphere. But I can’t wait to get back to normal life and get out and discover life and gain some new skills and experiences.

My last vacation essay for class 5

My last vacation was special and wonderful. We are now in the summer. There are many places to go and enjoy, such as amusement parks, the beach, picnics in the streets, clubs and cinemas. It was a great vacation, I enjoyed a walk with my family, whether on the beach or in the city.

I learned some new games from my brothers, and my father and we raced a lot. He made me win in some races to make me happy with that.

I also enjoyed going with my mother to shop and buy vegetables, she taught me how to choose some good fruits and vegetables.

I am very happy when I feel that I have learned something new, so I feel that the time I spend is valuable and that I have a role in society. I hope to continue learning and developing.

How did you spend your last vacation essay

I spent the last holiday of this year wandering with some of my close friends, going swimming or playing some electronic games, or playing soccer. Some days we went cycling in town, talking to some friends.

It was a nice vacation and I enjoyed it a lot after what we went through from the Corona crises, not mixing, no wandering and sitting at home.

So it was great to go out and walk with friends and feel the return to normalcy again. And there are some group activities we can do.

How I enjoyed my last vacation essay

The last vacation was a lot of fun and had a lot of funny activities that I enjoyed. I also made some fun new friends, and got to hang out with them a few times, where we could go to the beach and enjoy the sunshine and  swim.

We enjoyed camping and sitting by the fires, eating some snacks while talking and having fun. It was definitely a great vacation more than  the past two years, breathing, meeting new people, gaining some new skills, developing myself, and feeling more confident and fun than I was before.

Map: 4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes New Jersey

By William B. Davis ,  Madison Dong ,  Judson Jones ,  John Keefe ,  Bea Malsky and Lazaro Gamio

Shake intensity

A light, 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck in New Jersey on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake was felt across the New York City metropolitan area, and from Philadelphia to Boston.

The temblor happened at 10:23 a.m. Eastern about 4 miles north of Whitehouse Station, N.J., data from the agency shows.

As seismologists review available data, they may revise the earthquake's reported magnitude. Additional information collected about the earthquake may also prompt U.S.G.S. scientists to update the shake-severity map.

Aftershocks in the region

At 5:59 p.m. Eastern on Friday, a light aftershock with a magnitude of 3.8 struck near Gladstone, New Jersey, according to U.S.G.S. (The agency initially gave the quake a preliminary magnitude of 4.0.)

An aftershock is usually a smaller earthquake that follows a larger one in the same general area. Aftershocks are typically minor adjustments along the portion of a fault that slipped at the time of the initial earthquake.

Quakes and aftershocks within 100 miles

Aftershocks can occur days, weeks or even years after the first earthquake. These events can be of equal or larger magnitude to the initial earthquake, and they can continue to affect already damaged locations.

How this quake compares

The U.S.G.S. has logged 188 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or greater within a 250-mile radius of New York City since 1957. In that timeframe, only seven have had a magnitude at or above 4.5. Today’s quake had the third-highest magnitude in the available data.
