2. Sacred Teaching for Earthly Living

"Sacred Teaching for Earthly Living" is among the pastor's anniversary speech examples for pastors whose ministries are in the early stages. Jeremiah 3:15 provides the idea behind the role of a pastor.

The scripture is a safe passage for a guest pastor who may not have a direct relationship with the person getting celebrated. The individual also doesn't require a strong knowledge of the church that called them to speak.

The message reminds the congregation that pastors are chosen for moments such as this, and they are ordained by God. It doesn't matter if the pastor is a seminary graduate or started as a street preacher.

Jeremiah 3:15

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

  • How to Know the Pastor was Chosen by God
  • How to Know the Pastor was Sent by God

3. Is There a Word from the Lord?

In tough times like those the world has experienced in the past two years, congregations need reassurance that God hasn't abandoned those that seek Him. "Is There a Word from the Lord" provides the reassurance that the Lord is still a present help in times of uncertainty?

The sermon topic fits the current times because there are moments in the pastoral journey where the pastor needs a reminder that the congregation is closely watching how they handle adversity.

The message approaches the spirit of doubt by showing the servant of the Lord understands there are moments of doubt. Yet they show up consistently with fresh manna from heaven.

Jeremiah 37:17

Then King Zedekiah sent for him and had him brought to the palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there any word from the Lord?”

  • God Has a Word for the Congregation
  • God Has a Word for the Church Leaders
  • God Has a Word for the Pastor

4. Trust the Strategy

The biggest moment of strife in a pastor's journey is when they try to move the church from its current status to the next level. God gives pastors a vision for growth, and the pastor has the dubious task of creating a plan that the church leaders and congregation will adopt.

"Trust the Strategy" is a pastor anniversary speech best given by faith leaders familiar with the pastor and his struggles with implementing the plan. The guest pastor reminds the congregation there is a plan for the future. The speaker also encourages the congregation to trust the pastor, whose leadership has not failed in the past.

Ephesians 4:11

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

  • Define the Strategy
  • Develop the Strategy
  • Demonstrate the Strategy

5. I Won't Let Satan Win This Time!

Faith leaders struggle with demonic forces and principalities even in the brightest hour. These struggles don't stop because it's time to celebrate the pastor. When dealing with toxic church culture , the pastor may not see a reason to celebrate.

"I Won't Let Satan Win This Time" is a pastor's anniversary speech to encourage the pastor, church staff, and church leaders. God always has a plan for faith leaders to overcome adversity and come out victorious despite negative forces.

In the message, the speaker reinforces God's promise to the church. In the midst of trouble, God will always have the final say on matters, and it is always for the good of the church.

Judges 7: 1- 9

...During that night, the Lord said to Gideon, “Get up, go down against the camp because I am going to give it into your hands.

  • Satan, You can't Have God's Church
  • Satan, You Can't Have God's People
  • Satan, You Can't Have God's Shepherd

6. The Reward in Waiting

Long-term pastors are specialists in waiting. Their longevity at one church speaks to their level of patience. James 1:12 points out that it is a blessing to have the patience to persevere even when your ministry faces challenges.

The wise pastor knows that in everything, there is a time when God will reveal His presence to the believer. Choosing "The Reward in Waiting" as the pastor's anniversary speech acknowledges faithfulness and endurance.

Choosing the right words for an anniversary speech can come down to understanding what it takes to become a successful pastor. Faith leaders know firsthand their reward isn't always in the church's success but their faithfulness.

James 1:12

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

  • A Time to Seek Wisdom
  • A Time for Spiritual Renewal
  • A Time to Reap the Rewards

7. The Journey Continues

Without a doubt, serving in a ministry is a never-ending journey. The pastors' work is never finished because there's a new opportunity to win souls for Christ.

"The Journey Continues" highlights that the work continues after the pastor's anniversary celebrations have come to a close. For this reason, the pastor must continue to seek knowledge in order to grow and evolve.

Submitting to the will of God will help the pastor gain focus and stay the course. A committed pastor leaves a legacy that future leaders will follow for decades to come.

Judges 18:5-6

Then they said to him, “Please inquire of God to learn whether our journey will be successful.” The priest answered them, “Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord’s approval.”

  • Submit to the Will of God
  • Strengthen Your Faith
  • Show Thyself Approved

8. I Won't Leave Without My Blessing

God's faithfulness comes with great rewards. "I Won't Leave Without My Blessing" speaks to how the pastor should prepare for and react to receiving the blessing.

There is a mischaracterization in ministry that pastors get paid huge salaries. The vast majority of pastors with multi-million dollar incomes earn a large percentage of their money via speaking engagements, image rights, and book deals.

However, the average pastor receives a stipend over a salary. This method of payment is more common in small churches. Therefore, a pastor understands that blessings are not always monetary but come in other meaningful ways.

Promotion on the job, a community partnership, their children receiving college scholarships, or overcoming illness are all blessings. They serve as reminders that the work done in Jesus's name is not in vain.

Hebrews 6:10

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

  • Understand Why You're Getting Blessed
  • Be Patient While Waiting on the Blessing
  • Rejoice in Receiving the Blessing

9. Serving the Lord Without Fear

The key to becoming a fearless leader is having the right team surrounding you. A church's staff plays a vital role in a pastor's success. They are a support system that blocks interference from outsources.

The pastor has more time to focus on church business without small distractions. It also allows someone to minister without fear. The end result is a successful pastor who is strong and courageous when doing what's right.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

10. Beautiful Are the Feet

Romans 10:13-15 is a popular scripture for acknowledging the commitment of pastors. You'll find it as a common theme for pastor's anniversary celebrations.

The scripture acknowledges the core admiration for those who take their calling as pastors to heart. Their selflessness becomes the central theme of ministry.

Pastors continue to serve those who are unwilling to serve. They teach those who aren't always open to learning. The pastor's anniversary speech speaks to their desire to love people who sometimes seem unlovable.

Romans 10:13-15

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

  • A Desire to Love the People
  • A Desire to Serve the People
  • A Desire to Teach the People

11. I Shall Be Known by My Flock

Church members are to be a reflection of Christ. That reflection is often a representation of the church's pastor. In the form of a message to the church, pastor anniversary speeches should focus on the member's responsibility to represent the church at all times.

Like children reflect the teachings of their parents, church members reflect the pastor's leadership.

Pastors have a reputation to uphold. Sample pastor anniversary speeches on shepherd that successfully leads the flock is a reminder to the pastor and members of their responsibility to each other.

I Thessalonians 5:12-13

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

  • Teaching the Flock
  • Releasing the Flock

12. Great Is Thy Faithfulness

The ultimate goal of the pastor's anniversary celebration is to acknowledge the faithfulness of faith leaders. Having a theme and anniversary speech centered around God's faithfulness to the church is fitting.

In theory and practice, God sends those chosen to shepherd churches. These individuals make immeasurable sacrifices to their congregation. They wear many hats and take on duties that far exceed their job description.

For this pastor's anniversary speech example, the speaker gives instructions on honoring the pastor. This topic is important because congregants often begin to worship their pastors as if they are God in the flesh.

Understanding the distinction is critical to the pastor and the church members because there must be boundaries between appreciation and worshipping.

I Timothy 5:17

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.

As a member of a church community, you are probably familiar with the importance of an anniversary celebration. Whether it’s the 10th, 25th or even 100th anniversary, this special occasion is a great opportunity to bring together your congregation to honor and celebrate the growth and achievements of your church.

One way to make your church anniversary program more memorable is by incorporating meaningful and inspiring quotes that capture the essence of your church’s values and mission.

Here’s how you can step-by-step guide to incorporating church anniversary quotes into your program:

Step 1: Choose Relevant Quotes

The first step in incorporating quotes into your program is choosing inspirational and relevant ones. Your goal should be to select quotes that resonate with your audience and align with the values of your church.

Some great sources for finding relevant quotes include religious scriptures, approved books for use in worship services, and even online sources like Pinterest or Goodreads. Make sure you double-check these resources before quoting them though; always ensure they are verified as trusted sites.

Step 2: Know When And Where To Use The Quotes

Next, determine where in the program you want to use these quotes. You can place them in between speeches or performances throughout different portions of the event such as at the beginning, middle or end.

It’s also important to consider who will be reciting these quotes – whether it be clergy members or volunteers from the congregation – you’ll need somebody qualified enough on this matter so their tone matches accurately among different people using these throughout an event representing one common message.

Step 3: Add Some Life To The Quotes

When adding inspirational words into any program, it pays off well if they were spoken aloud in a fun yet professional way that will best resonate with everyone present during the event. A good strategy could be assigning someone from within the leadership team capable enough in delivering such messages effectively during events.

Adding some background music would also enhance this experience, help to energize the audience and uplift everyone’s energy level.

Step 4: Practice, Practice, Practice

Take time to rehearse sharing these quotes with other members of your church leadership team . Practicing how you will deliver this message can help smooth out any kinks or issues before the actual event takes place. Include inflections in your tone, breathing pauses and emphasis when delivering an inspiring quote during the event.

By practicing with another person as well would give reassurance while enabling your delivery of an appropriately captivating experience for everything from children’s homecoming celebrations to cherished worship events.

Incorporating inspirational church anniversary quotes into your program is an excellent way to add deeper meaning and showcase the values that guide and inspire your congregation. Following these steps will ensure a seamless integration of these inspiring words into even the most intricate programs. Happy celebrating!

Church anniversaries are always a special occasion that holds great significance for the members of a religious community. They represent an incredible milestone for any church and provide an opportunity for members to reflect on the growth, achievements, and challenges of their church throughout its history.

To mark this important event, many people like to include inspirational quotes and messages in their speeches or messages. However, selecting the right quote can be a challenging task for most people. This article aims to answer some frequently asked questions about Church Anniversary Quotes and provide you with all the essential information you need to make your selection.

Q: What should I look for when choosing a Church Anniversary Quote?

A: When selecting an anniversary quote, you should choose something relevant and meaningful to your church’s history or ministry. You may want to use inspirational verses from the Bible that express your gratitude towards God’s grace and mercy or highlight Jesus Christ’s teachings that have helped shape your church into what it is today.

Additionally, consider selecting quotes from renowned Christian leaders that resonate with your church’s beliefs or values. The main goal here is to choose words that will encourage, uplift, inspire faith and bring hope to everyone present during the anniversary celebration.

Q: Can I personalize my Church Anniversary Quotes?

A: Yes! Personalizing your anniversary quotes is not only permissible but also highly recommended if it is reflective of the history, events you’re celebrating and honors particular individuals who’ve contributed significantly to building up such beautiful space of worship over time. Adding personal touches make these selected words even more memorable while showcasing unique traits specific to your congregation.

Through customizing chosen sayings meaningfully validates each member’s role in creating such beautiful moments which may center around remarkable feats achieved by different departments within the church community such as children’s ministries programs, missionary outreaches services among others.

Q: Do I need permission before using someone else’s quote?

A: If you plan on using quotes from someone else other than the Bible, it is advisable to seek permission or attribution from the original author or copyright owner, giving credit where due. This can typically be done by including a citation, reference or citation per copyright laws – and acknowledging this as either direct or indirect quotes to honor their contributions.

Some authors may even have restrictions on the use of their work for certain purposes, so check beforehand if possible. When in doubt always be professional by honoring intellectual property rights rather than risking legal lawsuit issues out of your good intentions.

Q: How should I incorporate my Church Anniversary Quotes into my message?

A: The easiest way of incorporating church anniversary quotes into speeches is by reading them directly. Alternatively, you can add quotes within paragraphs of sayings after outlining crucial events that took place during earlier eras such as moving from a different location or adding new services to cater for different age groups within their premises over time.

To create an exciting experience, consider engaging your audience – either through reciting with them at selected intervals while providing clear directions like “everybody please rise” pause for a moment before phrasing these words and use key details communicated during planning sessions such as specific dates/historical moments upon which these writings were crafted to solidify each’s importance from fresh perspective while encouraging engagement throughout your message.

A church anniversary celebration creates an opportunity for bringing together past and present members together with everyone else who makes up such faith-based communities around the world. It’s essential that every member feels valued and appreciated-no matter how long they’ve been part of this beautiful journey– because without everyone’s contribution; none would receive accolades alone! A well-crafted quote can indeed serve as a reflection point to those values shaping unique church chemistry overtime resulting in beautiful moments experienced throughout its lifetime.

As someone who has attended many church anniversary celebrations over the years, I can tell you that one of the most important elements of any such event is the selection of appropriate quotes to share with the congregation. But have you ever stopped to consider just how much thought and effort goes into choosing these quotes ? Here are five fascinating facts about church anniversary quotes that you probably didn’t know before.

1. They reflect the church’s values and history Church anniversary quotes are carefully chosen to reflect the values and history of the congregation being celebrated. This means that they must resonate with the beliefs and practices of that specific faith community, while also capturing some of its key moments from throughout its past.

2. They carry special meaning for congregants The right quote can inspire religious leaders, uplift those who feel spiritually lost, provide comfort to those experiencing difficult times, or simply add a touch of levity to a joyful occasion. Church anniversary quotes are special because they represent something meaningful and profound to everyone within a particular faith tradition.

3. They can come from anywhere While many churches turn to religious texts like the Bible or Qur’an as primary sources for their commemorative quotes, others look to poets, philosophers or inspirational figures like Nelson Mandela or Gandhi instead. Still others may draw heavily from pop culture – there’s no limit when it comes to inspiration for selecting an impactful quote !

4. There is an art behind their use To bring out the full impact of a quote during a church anniversary celebration, it’s not enough for a speaker simply read it aloud from paper; rather, they must understand how best use timing and pacing effectively so as to engage listeners in reflection on their message.

5. They remind us all what matters most about our faith communities Ultimately, church anniversary quotes help us all remember why we got involved in our respective faiths in first place; by highlighting key beliefs and values underpinning these traditions even after centuries have passed, they remind us all of what matters most about our faith communities. So the next time you’re at a church anniversary celebration and hear some inspiring words spoken – whether they come from scripture, poetry or elsewhere – be sure to take a moment to reflect on their deeper meaning!

Church anniversary celebrations are an essential part of religious life. They provide us with a unique opportunity to honour the rich history and tradition of our faith, celebrate the accomplishments of our community, and look forward to a bright future filled with hope and promise.

One important aspect of any church anniversary celebration is the sharing of inspiring quotes from famous leaders and religious figures. These quotes serve as powerful messages that inspire us to strive for excellence in all aspects of our spiritual journey.

Here are some inspiring examples of Church Anniversary Quotes from Famous Leaders and Religious Figures:

1. “The church is not a building but a family” – Unknown

This quote reminds us that the church is not just about the physical structure or location where we gather, but it is more about the people who make up the community. Our connection, love, support ,and care for one another is what truly makes our faith come alive.

2. “The church exists by mission as fire lives by burning.” – Emil Brunner

This quote highlights how important having a mission is when driving change or good works through anything including church communities. This serves as motivation for everyone in leadership positions to keep pushing forward with their plans while keeping this ultimate goal in mind.

3. “The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement” – Billy Graham

Billy Graham’s quote emphasises that even religious leaders go through times of abundant self doubt when trying to push forth narratives through faith even though these moments exist; resilience always must shine true within those circumstances reminding us we have much more power than we give ourselves credit for.

4) “I cannot lead you into battle; I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else – I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all peoples” –Queen Elizabeth II”

Queen Elizabeth II’s quote highlights selfless dedication which can be applied also into spiritual contexts. As a leader in our church communities when we give our complete heart and devotion to our religious foundation this creates an immediate impact on others.

5. “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.” – Vince Lombardi

Vince Lombardi’s quote emphasises the profound importance of constantly striving towards excellence and betterment in all aspects of life; faith included. By maximising efforts about spreading hope, love and care it will always come back around to promote more positive change within not just one individual but into the larger community where the heart strives positively for collective growth.

In conclusion, these inspiring Church Anniversary Quotes from Famous Leaders and Religious Figures act as powerful messages that grant spiritual upliftment, guidance & clarity. Through these words, we are reminded of the sanctity and power found amongst each other’s beliefs which helps us keep moving forward as one multifaceted reliogious family unit adherance to values such as compassion, generosity, gratitude and benevolence always remembering how far faith can unite not divide us.

The power of words is undeniable. Words have the ability to inspire, motivate and uplift us in ways that other forms of communication simply can’t match. For many people, words of wisdom from their spiritual leaders hold a special significance. As a result, church anniversary quotes are an excellent way to connect with your community and provide them with the inspiration they need to continue growing in their faith.

The use of quotes has been a staple in churches for centuries. Church leaders have taken to using inspirational quotes from religious texts to convey important messages. These messages are intended not just to motivate and inspire but also to remind individuals that they are part of a greater community united by shared values.

When you reflect on famous quotes from history, it’s easy to understand why these pearls of wisdom stand the test of time. Take this one by Mother Teresa, “Spread love everywhere you go, let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” This quote serves as an inspiring reminder that we all hold within us the power to make someone else’s day brighter if we choose.

Now think about how much more impactful such messages become when applied directly within a larger spiritual context.

Whether through sermons or services, church anniversary quotes remind us all what our shared faith is truly about: connecting us through grace and kindness towards our fellow man. These wise words carry a unique power over anyone who reads or hears them.

Here are some examples:

“Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16)

This quote reinforces the idea that we should be living like Christ daily though small actions helping others whether big or small—routinely acting out good intentions puts forth powerful change over time.

“The Lord will fight for you; You only need be still.” (Exodus 14:14)

As Exodus teaches, sometimes it can feel like everything is crumbling around us. This verse reminds us that God will fight for and protect his followers through any turbulent times.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Cor. 5:17)

Many recognize this as one of the greatest glimmering examples Paul’s letters delivered. It emphasizes that all who follow Christ are free from sin and allowed to cultivate a better life with heavenly purpose.

Taking verse out of context can be dangerous leading to misinterpretation so digging into their origin narratives allow for meaningful application commentary.

In summary, Church anniversary quotes serve as an excellent means of connection between a congregation and their faith. These words inspire us to remember why we hold our values dear and how we should strive towards embodying them in our everyday lives in every way possible. By incorporating these messages into regular church activities or even incorporating them into personal devotionals or religious blogs leads us on the right path towards spiritual fulfillment while exploring biblical doctrines that enable growth become self-aware and loving towards others.

As an expert in church anniversary quotes, I have seen many powerful and inspiring messages over the years. The right quote can commemorate a special occasion and encapsulate the values of a congregation with just a few words. When selecting a quote for your church’s anniversary, consider one that reflects your community’s unique identity and history while also speaking to the larger spiritual themes of faith , hope, love, and unity. Whether you choose a well-known scripture or classic hymn verse, or create your own words to represent your church’s story, let the sentiment be meaningful and profound.

In 2021, the Catholic Church celebrated the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s Reformation, which marked a pivotal moment in Christian history and led to the formation of Protestantism.

Proven Practices for a Better, Bigger Church

10 Great Strategies for Church Anniversary Celebrations

10 Great Strategies for Church Anniversary Celebrations

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since we had our first service in that Community College auditorium. So much has happened.

So many lives have changed.

You can see the service here.

Anniversaries are a big deal. Or they should be. Humans were wired up to celebrate and remember.

Paul talked about the discipline of looking back in Romans 15:4-6:

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We look back to learn, to gain endurance and encouragement, so that we can look forward with unity and hope.

Here’s how to celebrate your church’s anniversary in a way that honors God, builds momentum and culture, encourages hearts and fosters belonging.

Pastor's Personal Toolbox

The Benefits of a Church Anniversary Celebration

1. parties make life fun..

Think birthday parties. Wedding anniversaries. Celebrating Christmas and Easter.  Consider the Old Testament festivals and holidays. When the church celebrates together, life is more fun.

During our 25th Anniversary Service we cheered, laughed, whistled, clapped, and woo-hooed. Don’t underestimate the value of fun in the health of your church.

2. Church Culture is reinforced.

As you tell stories of people who have served and sacrificed, and of ministry the church has accomplished, you’re teaching lessons about what your community of believers values.

You’re building a mindset in newcomers and you’re reinforcing it with old-timers. Anniversary celebrations are prime time for building church culture.

3. Momentum is sparked.

Momentum gets re-ignited when people see that they are standing on the shoulders of saints and warriors who have gone before them in your town.

They want to take their place in the legacy. They see that their ministry can make a difference. They have new energy for their own ministry and new enthusiasm for what the church can accomplish.

4. Vision catches on.

Dr. Hal Seed at New Song's 25th Anniversary Celebration

When you celebrate the past, it’s easier to believe in a bright future.

This may be the time to initiate a new program or campaign that will take your church’s ministry into the future.

The Sunday prior to our Anniversary, I did a vision-casting sermon, announcing that our strategy for reaching our city in the next few years is  Each One Reach One , and our strategy for kingdom expansion is to plant 100 churches and help 100 churches do the same. I call it the Each One Reach One, 100 x 100 Strategy.

During my abbreviated Anniversary message, I referred back to these strategies. Casting vision in the context of what God has already done is like mounting your vision on rocket boosters.

While people are thinking about what God has   done, it’s easy to imagine Him doing more in the future.

Strategies for Successful Church Anniversary Celebrations

1. make some anniversary celebrations a big deal..

Every year on the anniversary weekend, we do some something special, but it isn’t usually the focus of the service.

We make a bigger deal of the anniversary every fifth year – our 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and recently, the 25th anniversaries.

Most years, I’ll tell stories of our founding and use the anniversary as an excuse to cast vision. The rest of the service is a normal worship service.

Here are some of the things we’ve done on five year anniversaries:

  • For the 5th Anniversary, we rented a local performing arts center on Saturday night and replayed the best moments of the first five years. We produced a video called “Roller Coast Ride” that has stuck as the theme of the early years.
  • For our 10th Anniversary, we held a dinner and celebration on our grounds on Sunday night.
  • For our 15th Anniversary, we rented a local amphitheater and held one service there together.
  • For our 20th Anniversary, we held the gala in our building and invited back alumni staff and founding members.

Don’t go all out every year, but some years…

…go all out.

2. Be clear about your purpose and goals.

Our goals for the 25th celebration were to give God glory for what He has done among us, to build a memory, and to celebrate servants.

You may want to help newer attenders understand the church’s history. Or see some reconciliation with former staff people. Or rally people around the next big hill.

Communicate those goals to the anniversary planning team and the people who are programming the service. Part of the reason our 25th was so powerful was because the programming team created an experience where our church worshipped, and laughed, and cried, and owned the future.

3. Start planning 6-8 months ahead.

First thing, Pastor, do some prayerful thinking:

  • What’s your vision for the anniversary celebration?
  • What leaders will you need for the areas of the event?
  • Who could help with those responsibilities?
  • What kind of budget can you generate for this event?

Then invite people to come to an anniversary planning meeting.

At the first meeting, cast your vision and let the people around the table begin to divide up responsibilities and flesh out your ideas. Pay attention to things you didn’t think about and if some people need to be invited to join the team.

Schedule the next meeting for a week later and welcome any you just invited onto the team. Check in on progress, continue to make decisions about plans, and to delegate responsibilities.

Schedule ongoing meetings as needed to check in on progress, make decisions, and share resources.

I started the team with volunteers, but staff got brought in as the anniversary got closer.

4. Keep it in your own building, not off-site.

We’ve done big anniversary celebrations off-site, but for the 25th anniversary, we decided to use our own building.

The people on the fringe won’t drive to a different location – it’s probably farther from their home – for the anniversary. Core people will go to the moon for the celebration, but newcomers and marginally connected people tend to stay home.

That’s no bueno. Those are the people that we really want to come! They need the fun, the culture, and the vision more than anybody.

After the 25th, I heard people say that they loved hearing the history and seeing the people they had heard about. But even more they loved being part of this new day in New Song’s history. More than one person said to me, “Now I’ll be able to say that I was here for the 25th anniversary!”

That’s a memory better made in your own building.

New Song Church 25th Anniversary Celebration Stage

5. Squeeze into fewer services.

We normally have three services on Sunday and one on Saturday at the Oceanside location, and two on Sunday at the Carlsbad location.

We decided to have one mega-service at 5:00pm on Saturday night and another mega-service at 10:00am on Sunday morning.

Then we didn’t have to worry about turning over the crowd for the next service, so we were able to go longer – we went nearly two hours – and follow with a meal. The crowded lobby and auditorium raised excitement. And it was easier to connect with old friends from out of town.

Squeezing into two services brought logistical challenges, for sure. We put every chair in the auditorium. We set up every table for the meals. And we figured very carefully how to safely maximize the number of children we could handle in PromiseLand.

We asked people to reserve their service so we could balance attendance between Saturday and Sunday, so we knew how many children to expect, and so we could ask them to bring food for one of the meals.

6. It’s not a party if there isn’t  a meal.

One decision we made is that it’s not a party if there isn’t food.

But we didn’t have money to feed everyone.

So, lacking a budget, we went old-school and had a potluck.

You should know that potlucks aren’t usually a good thing in Southern California. You can only serve so many grocery store chicken wings and potato wedges, and veggie trays from Costco. The team leaders were praying for another feeding of the 5,000 story.

Well, New Songers cooked like champs, we filled in with some chicken wings, and everyone had enough to eat.

Eating together made the party.

7. Get everyone involved.

We asked people to come to one service, and to serve one service.

We needed extra volunteers in our children’s ministry.  The worship team drew in former worship leaders, and musicians and actors.

The meal team built a pop-up special events team who handled setting up every table and chair we own, serving the food, and cleaning up the meal on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. There were hundreds of people eating in our Café.

All those extra servants were part of our strategy to reap the benefits of an anniversary celebration. The volunteers had more fun, caught more church culture, created more momentum and gained more vision.

A church anniversary celebration that is just a show isn’t as dynamic corporately as a big family party where everyone pitches in. Everyone was happy and tired on Monday.

8. Tell the story of life-change in the service.

Our programming team has some team members who have been around for 20+ years, so these folks generated a list of highlights of our greatest moments.

Our Worship Pastor then organized these greatest moments into service elements and sewed them together like an essay: an intro, main points with supporting evidence, and a conclusion. He picked elements that tell the story of God’s working for life-change in and through our church.

Three video testimonies. Teens were involved in two of the pieces: with the Kids Camp video where they’re the volunteers, and telling some of the stories of suicide prevented because of the movie, To Save a Life , that we made. We had one live drama because pre-video days we were all about the drama, and another piece that told of our international reach. A short message by me. And lots of worship.

It felt to me like an anointed, clear story of what God has done.

Get the download to see the order of service . Or watch the video here .

9. Invite “formers” to come.

We planned to invite dozens of former New Songers, but hit a glitch on that, so a month out, I started emailing former staff and other friends I’ve kept in touch with.

It was meaningful to have two former worship leaders, some of the initial core, and the elderly couple who kept us going financially in the early days. A number of former staff members came in from out-of-town.

The celebration wouldn’t have had the same impact without recognizing that the fruit of their ministry brought us to where we are, and seeing their satisfaction in what God did through them and out of their investment of time and resources.

The reunions, and the satisfaction for ministry done, was sweetness itself. It felt like a taste of heaven to me.

10. Provide a Remembrance

I’ve heard of churches that use a significant anniversary as a catalyst to write a history of their church. Others do prayer experiences.

We made T-shirts.

That’s how we roll.

And this time we went all out. Both a polo and a regular tee.

We always lose money on T-shirts, so this time we asked people to order them in advance. It was a little more complicated, but it kept us from losing money on extra shirts.

25 years! I am so thankful! We didn’t sleep well on Sunday night. We were too happy!

This anniversary celebration did more than we could have done in a year to create community, momentum, and vision. I encourage you to figure out when you should celebrate an anniversary in your church.

church anniversary poem

Your anniversary poem should highlight the sense of community, fellowship and opportunity for growth that the church offers.

Of course, a big part, is to also give thanks for all the blessings received and the insight gained.

Happy anniversary - your speech is sure to make your church anniversary an extra-special celebration!

Celebration, praise and worship,

Honoring our Lord and Savior -

Uplifted, consoled, forgiven and protected

Remembering as we celebrate and give thanks -

Chronicling another anniversary as a church community

Held together as a congregation in the palm of His Hand.

And today as we celebrate our church's anniversary

Near to us we feel His Presence,

Never forsaken or forgotten -

In His Light we radiate.

Victoriously we raise our voices,

Echoing again our thanks for blessings received,

Recollecting triumphs and tribulations in the year gone by.

Steadfast and constant we turn to the year ahead,

Awed and buoyed by his radiating Love,

Reborn and renewed -

Yesterdays remembered and tomorrows praised.

Anniversary poem - great for a printed church program to celebrate an important anniversary!

Bound together as a congregation, His guidance at hand.

And now, as we mark our church’s anniversary,

Close to us, His presence we understand.

Never forsaken or forgotten, His grace bestowed —

In His light, our spirits grandly expand.

Triumphantly, we lift our voices,

Resounding our gratitude for blessings that we hold,

Reflecting on victories and challenges in the year’s passages.

Steadfast and resolute, we turn to the future bold,

Amazed and uplifted by His love that’s ageless.

Reborn and invigorated,

Yesterday’s moments cherished, tomorrows praised with zest.

Blessings through time: Celebrating Our Church’s Journey

Blessings through time Celebrating Our Church's Journey images pictures quotes

In prayer today, O Lord, we lift our voice, For your gift, our hearts forever rejoice.

A pastor sent to guide and lead, Planting your word as a sacred seed.

You, a shepherd kind and true, For your calling, our gratitude we renew.

On this day of anniversary grace, Bless our shepherd in every space.

Grant our pastor a heart of care, Each of us, a role to bear.

As a chosen flock, on Christ we stand, May we follow your divine plan.

May days for our pastor multiply, Blessings abundant, reaching the sky.

May his efforts yield a fruitful bloom, For which, dear Lord, we always assume.

May faith be his compass, unwavering and strong, As he receives eternal rewards, a lifelong song.

Safe in Heaven’s embrace, with joy anew, May your entire flock find solace in you.

Amen, we say, with hearts sincere, May our pastor’s journey be ever clear.

Church Dedication Anniversary Prayer

Church Dedication Anniversary Prayer images pictures quotes

  by Paul Berchtold, February, 2011

Let us celebrate a grand feast, From the greatest to the least, Let us rejoice, on this happy morn, The special day our church was born.

God bless those who planted the seed, And those who gave to every need, And those who labored, with such care, To build this church, God’s House of Prayer.

May we follow their example bright, Generously live, do what’s right, Like them, may we, give God our best, So our souls can find his rest.

May all who come find peace and light, May God’s presence and his might, Gently guard this holy place, May all find joy, abundant grace.

Thank you, God, for what’s been done, Here at this place, through your Son, May your work, keep on growing, Love and peace overflowing. Amen.

O House of God

      by Paul Berchtold, February, 2011

O house of God, his dwelling on earth, Today we honor your day of birth. Let us celebrate with jubilation, This special feast of dedication. (consecration)

O gift of God, from his hand, May you always bravely stand, A beacon to our community, Calling all to Christ in unity.

O loving witness to the work of others, Strong in faith, our Christian brothers, Great their sacrifice in times past, May their memory always last.

May we your children take every care, That this remains God’s house of prayer. May God be worshiped in reverent praise, That he may dwell within always.

O holy symbol of God’s bride, May your doors be open wide. Inside of you, be always heard, God’s truth and grace, his holy word.

O welcome arms, with open door, Solemn beauty, ceiling to floor, Your inner vault, so calm and spacious, Shows how our God, is big and gracious.

You are here, when things go well, Christmas, Easter, and wedding bells, You’re the place where we find, Joy of heart and peace of mind.

You are here when we cry, Comes pain and death, and questions why. You call to mind our home hereafter, When tears give way to joy and laughter.

O silent teacher, by your steeple, You point to heaven all God’s people, Standing tall for all the years. A place to come with all our fears.

You invite us to deeper grow, In God’s word, so that we know, To love, to serve, give God our best, In you our souls can find his rest.

O home for sinners to repent, By Christ’s death, the veil was rent, Christ rose again, that we may live, Thank you, church, for what you give.

As we depart, the service ending, Help recall that Christ is sending, Each of us to show his peace, His kingdom, come, will never cease. Amen.

From modest origins, we’ve grown and thrived, In God’s embrace, our spirits revived. Through tempests weathered, faith endures, A testament to love that reassures.

Today, we honor years bygone, With hearts of gratitude, voices dawn. For friendships formed, lives reformed, God’s eternal love, in our souls adorned.

From Foundation to Forever: Our Church Anniversary Story

Within this sacred haven, tranquility resides, Where God’s grace and love forever abides. We gather to honor the passage of years, Counting blessings that wash away fears. Through deep valleys and atop peaks high, God’s faithful hand leads, our guide in the sky.

Welcome Speech For Church Anniversary

If you’ve just stumbled upon this post, it’s probably because someone’s asked you to give welcome to church speeches—or maybe it’s something you do regularly and you want to improve. We’ve got you covered.

Not only will you find 10 welcome to church speeches to kick off your next church service or large event, but also some suggestions for keeping your people engaged beyond your Sunday service.

Are Welcome to Church Speeches Necessary?

Whenever you have a large number of people gathered, it’s important to round them up and focus them on the reason that you’re all together. Even though we’ve come to call this initial address a “welcome speech,” it’s so much more than that.

When done right, a welcome speech gets people focused, sets the tone for the meeting, gives some sense of the agenda and outcomes, and gets everything off on the right foot.

Because welcome speeches tend to be brief and are seen as perfunctory, they’re often given without adequate preparation. Even the most seasoned speaker should shy away from completely improvising.

Pastor Anniversary Welcome Speech

Dear friends,

It is with great joy that we gather here today to celebrate the anniversary of [church name]. We are so grateful for all that our church has done over its history and continues to do in the world today.

We have come together today to celebrate this milestone, but also to look forward–to consider the ways in which we can grow and improve as a community and how we can best serve others in need.

We believe that it is through our faith in God that we will be able to make a difference in this world. It is through His guidance that we will be able to bring about change for the betterment of mankind.

We thank God for bringing us together as one body under His leadership, and we look forward with excitement at what lies ahead for us!

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this special occasion. We are gathered here today to celebrate the anniversary of [church name]. For over [number of years] we have been a part of this community and have seen God’s hand at work in our lives. We have seen many changes over the years, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to serving God through our service.

We are grateful for all that he has done in our lives and we look forward to many more years of working together as a community of believers who strive to make a difference in the world around us.

Welcome, friends! It’s so good to see you all here today. We’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, and now it’s finally here.

We’re celebrating our church anniversary today, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. This is a day when we can take stock of all the progress we’ve made over the past year and think about how far we’ve come as a community. It’s also a day when we can look forward to all the great things that are still to come in our future together.

So let’s celebrate together! Let’s raise our hands in praise, sing some songs, and give thanks for every moment spent with each other over these past twelve months–and all those moments yet to come.

Hello, everyone. I’m so excited to be here today!

I know that many of you have been coming to this church for years, and I’m honored to be a part of your community. But for those of you who are new, welcome! We’re glad you could join us.

Today is an important day for us because it marks the anniversary of our church’s founding, and what better way to celebrate than by gathering together as one? We’re all here because we believe in something bigger than ourselves: the idea that God loves us unconditionally and wants nothing more than for us to love each other in return. And so today, let’s take a moment to reflect on what it means for us to be part of this community–what it means for us as individuals and how it helps us grow together as a whole.

Let me close by saying how grateful I am for each one of you–for your support and encouragement over the years, but also for being here today with me as we mark this important milestone together!

Welcome, friends!

We are so glad you could join us today to celebrate this milestone in the life of our church. We’re excited to be with you as we look back on all we’ve accomplished together and look forward to what’s next.

It’s been a long journey, and it’s not over yet! But it’s been worth every step because of the people who have made it possible: our members, volunteers and staff. So let’s take a moment to acknowledge those who have made this day possible by sharing their stories with us.

The Dangers of Not Planning Your Welcome to Church Speech

While it’s entirely possible to give a fantastic impromptu speech, there are reasons why it’s best to give some thought to your welcome to church speech. Here are some of the hazards of inadequate preparation:

1. RAMBLING

One of the surest signs that someone hasn’t done their work in preparation is babbling. It’s easy to come up with a couple of points you want to hit on and imagine you’re prepared. What you inevitably forget is how unnerving it becomes when 100 pairs of eyes are fixed on you.

At that moment, you might remember your speech’s intended destination, but entirely forget how to get there. That’s when the rambling starts. In the moment, it becomes really hard to know when you’ve sufficiently made the point you wanted, so you just keep talking…

2. FLUSTERING

The other side of the rambling coin is the stammering. When you haven’t cemented the opening remarks you want to say, it’s so easy to get stuck in a mental loop. Your brain’s going 1,000 miles a second trying to construct your speech. In the meantime, the stuttering starts and you have a hard time getting back on track.

3. POOR JOKES

Both the person who’s rambling and the one who’s flustered try to ease their stress by cracking wise. Nothing breaks tension like jokes, right? Well, not so fast. Jokes are like pork: wonderful if properly prepared, but when you start serving them up only half-baked, you have a good chance of turning off everyone.

When your brain is struggling to feed you the next line, it’s not going to do a good job of assessing the quality of a joke. In this situation, it’s easy to throw out a quip that’s incoherent, inappropriate, or awkward.

4. NEGLECTING IMPORTANT INFORMATION

It’s likely that there are important points or directions that need to be communicated during a welcome speech. You might think, “It’s only a couple of items. What are the chances that I’ll forget them?” The chances are higher than you think.

Rules to Follow with These Welcome to Church Speeches

Before we get into the content of a welcome to church speech, here are a couple of rules to remember when you’re giving your address:

1. DON’T READ IT

You’re setting the tone of this gathering, and most of the time you’re trying to make people comfortable. The key to being prepared lies in being able to speak in a way that feels extemporaneous.

You can definitely bring a card with some notes on it, but it’s there as a guide, not a crutch.

2. MAKE EYE CONTACT

Being personable isn’t too difficult. You just want to appear cool, calm, and confident. Preparedness will help you get there. Meeting the gazes of people in the room is going to help sell it. Just don’t stare them down.

3. SPEAK SLOWLY

Talking too fast is almost inevitable when you’re not used to speaking in public. You get up there and the adrenaline starts pumping through you, and you end up speaking three times faster than you intended.

As crazy as it sounds, speak a little more slowly than feels comfortable.

4. BE BRIEF

Polonius speaks the truth in Hamlet when he says, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” Keep your welcome tight and concise and everyone will think you did brilliantly!

6 Key Elements of a Good Welcome Speech For Pastor Appreciation Service

Most welcome to church speeches are going to share some common components. But they might need to be packaged or delivered differently based on the kind of event you’re greeting people for. Here are six things every good welcome to church speech should do:

1. INTRODUCE THE EVENT (AND YOURSELF)

Start by welcoming everyone to the event and introducing yourself. This can be as simple as “Welcome to Redeemer Lutheran Church. My name is Susan.”

2. SET EXPECTATIONS

This is just a brief explanation of what people can expect to happen at the event. This should be as simple as possible. You’re not breaking everything down at an atomic level; you’re just giving a quick synopsis.

3. GIVE IMPORTANT PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Let people know what they may need to know in order to enjoy themselves. This could include things like the location of restrooms, a reminder to turn down cell phones, or the location of refreshments.

4. ACKNOWLEDGE NEWCOMERS

Let visitors know that they’re welcome. It’s amazing how much tension is alleviated in visitors when they’re told, “We know there are some new people here.” This gives them permission to figure stuff out as they go.

You’ll also want to address any methods you use to capture their contact information. A simple, “If you’re new here today, we want to extend to you a special welcome. In the pew in front of you is a contact card. We’d love for you to fill it out and drop it in the offering basket so we can get to know you better.”

5. LET THEM KNOW WHAT’S NEXT

After you’ve welcomed everyone, your job is to smoothly transition to the next thing. That might mean that you’re encouraging them to welcome a speaker or releasing them to get food or refreshments. Whatever it is, make sure that you’re helping to facilitate the next steps.

6. DON’T FORGET TO PRAY

If the situation calls for it, you can also open in prayer. The same general rules apply to public prayers as they do to welcome speeches. Unless you have some experience under your belt, it’s better to over-prepare than it is to wing it.

I want to take a moment to welcome you, and I hope that you feel at home here. We are a community of people who come together to worship and celebrate our Creator, Jesus Christ, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We believe that God wants us all to live life with purpose, so we have created an environment where you can be yourself and grow in your relationship with God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

We hope that you will find a place in this community that makes you feel right at home as we learn more about each other and grow closer together through friendship and fellowship.

Welcome to our church.

Hello, everyone!

I’m so glad you’re all here. I know it’s been a long week and we’ve all been working hard. So let’s take a minute to celebrate what we’ve accomplished and look forward to the future together.

I’d like to thank our pastor for his dedication and leadership, as well as the rest of our staff for their hard work. I’d also like to thank you—the congregation—for your commitment to this church, which is how we were able to build this new building and make it a place where all are welcome and can feel comfortable worshipping our Lord.

It’s an exciting time in the life of our church, and we’re so grateful that you’re part of it!

Welcome to [church name]! My name is [name], and I am excited you’re worshiping with us this Easter. If you’re a visitor, we want to thank you for joining us on the most celebratory Sunday of the year. Welcome to our church. We are so glad you are here!

We have a lot of exciting things happening, and we hope that you will be able to join us for some of them.

We have a new music program coming up—it’s going to be an acoustic guitar rendition of all your favorite hymns. We’ll also be doing a special service on the first Sunday in October where we’re going to honor our veterans, but more on that later.

Our new sermon series is called “The Art of Being Human,” and it will start on Sunday, January 25th. We hope you can join us as we learn how to listen with empathy, express ourselves with grace, and act with integrity.

Welcome to church! We’re so glad you’re here.

We know that the world can be a scary place, and we want to help you find a safe space where you can feel comfortable and accepted.

The Bible says that God loves us all so much that He sent His only son—Jesus—to die for our sins so that we could go to heaven when we die. But He also sent His son so that we could have a relationship with Him right now, too.

So if you need an escape from the pressures of life, or if you’re struggling with something and want help dealing with it, come talk to us! We’ll do whatever we can to make things better for you.

We are so grateful for each and every one of you who chooses to spend time with us here today.

Connect with Your People Beyond Sunday

After the events of 2020, church shopping is on the rise. According to Pew Research Center, many Americans are experiencing virtual services for the first time. Additionally, most virtual worshippers have watched congregations other than their own. Have you considered ways to engage new people beyond your virtual Sunday service?

As your congregation grows, both in-person and online, it’s not easy to connect with (and stay connected with) everyone. Fortunately, there are some great tools to help keep people from slipping through the cracks.

CHURCH APP

With a church app, you can easily connect with people where they’re already at the majority of the time—their smartphones. If you use a platform like Pushpay, you’ll have access to church app features such as:

  • A streamlined  App Media Experience  that makes it easy for your people to stay connected and engaged
  • Custom Church App Profiles  so your people can choose what information they’d like to receive regularly.
  • Live Polls and Fill-in-the-Blank Notes  allow your people to engage with your sermon from the pew or their couch.
  • Push Notifications  so you can send the right messages at the right time to the right people.

CHURCH MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

  • Groups  to help leaders know where their people are at and the next steps they can take in their spiritual journey.
  • Process Queues  that make it easy to follow up with first-time guests, connect someone with a volunteer opportunity, and more.
  • Check-in  from a tablet or touchscreen, freeing you up to welcome gu

Most young people these days do not attend church regularly, perceiving the services as dull or restrictive. To expand your congregation, you must take measures to ensure that everyone feels welcome, and giving great welcome speeches is one way to achieve that. However, mastering the art of giving welcome speeches in the church can be challenging. What tone should the best speeches adopt? How can you be inclusive without being too direct? What other actions should you take aside from speaking?

1. Tailor Your Speech for Every Occasion

To deliver an effective welcome speech, it’s crucial to understand the nature of the event you’re welcoming your guests to. For an average Sunday service, your tone should be positive and encouraging, while for a more solemn occasion like a funeral, a more serious tone may be more appropriate.

Your speech should also provide practical information, such as the duration of the service or whether food will be served, and include a brief description of the event to give the audience a sense of what to expect.

If you’re uncertain about what to include in your welcome speech for church, you can refer to church quotes and speech ideas for guidance. Opening with a prayer is usually appropriate, and if you’re struggling with writer’s block, leading the congregation in a prayer that reflects the event’s theme or reading a relevant passage from the Bible or another religious text can also be effective.

2. Give a Warm and Welcoming Greeting

When delivering a welcome speech, it’s important, to begin with, a brief introduction of yourself. Simply stating your name is sufficient, although you may include additional details. If you are a pastor or priest from another church, it’s helpful to mention this to avoid confusion with other staff members.

After the introduction, you can transition into the body of your speech. A statement such as “I am delighted to welcome all of you” can serve as a greeting to your audience and help you move forward.

Avoid using cliches such as “I welcome you on behalf of…” as they have lost their impact due to frequent use. Additionally, it’s best to avoid introducing someone else unless specifically requested.

When delivering the greeting, maintain a smile and raise the pitch of your voice slightly. Gesturing with an open palm signifies hospitality and openness.

Finally, when greeting anyone who joins you on stage, be sure to say their name and title, and provide a brief overview of what they will be discussing. Avoid asking for applause, as the audience will typically applaud naturally.

3. Evoke Emotions

Aside from smiling and using varied tones, employ creative language and dynamic verbs to inspire and captivate your audience. Avoid overusing adverbs or adjectives, and instead, seek out verbs with comparable meanings. For instance, “We’ll get through that quickly” can be phrased as “We’ll speed through that.”

While some speakers use humor to entertain their audience, it may not always be appropriate or effective, especially on somber occasions. If you choose to tell a joke, opt for puns or wordplay instead of potentially offensive material. Avoid making jokes at someone else’s expense and be cautious with self-deprecation. Experiment with rhyming as another way to connect ideas and capture your audience’s attention.

4. Keep It Short

Welcome speeches typically do not exceed 150 words. Avoid lengthy exegesis of the Bible or introducing a guest during this time. Simply convey the necessary information to commence the occasion and proceed. Try drafting your speech verbatim and then revise to eliminate any unnecessary details, in addition to adverbs and adjectives. If the priest or pastor will address specific points later, exclude them from your speech.

Announcements and in-house business should be postponed for another opportunity. Reminders for upcoming events can be disseminated through emails and text messages.

When welcoming worshippers, aim to appeal to first-time visitors. Avoid using phrases such as “Welcome members of my church,” and instead try using inclusive language such as “Welcome brothers and sisters.”

It’s also helpful to acknowledge first-time visitors by saying something like, “We’re glad you’re here with us today.” However, avoid singling them out by name or making them feel uncomfortable. Providing directions to key areas of the church, such as the welcome center or restrooms, can also be useful, especially in larger churches.

To put first-time visitors at ease, consider mentioning that they are not expected to participate in singing or stand up during the service. While you should avoid promoting upcoming events, it is okay to mention that your church meets every week and that visitors are welcome to join for the next service. Additionally, consider inviting newcomers to a gathering specifically designed for them.

5. Practice, Again, Perfect!

Write a draft and read it aloud to ensure its coherence. Then rehearse gestures and facial expressions in front of a mirror. Record your speech to identify areas for improvement and rehearse those parts until perfect. During delivery, maintain eye contact with the audience and avoid focusing on a single person. Lastly, get feedback from the service leader and other speakers to avoid repetition and ensure a smooth introduction.

WATCH: Harris marks 59th anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday’ at Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma

SELMA, Ala. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris told thousands gathered for the 59th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday attacks on civil rights marchers in Selma, Alabama, that fundamental freedoms are under attack in America even today.

Watch the event in the player above.

Harris joined those gathered at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where voting rights activists were beaten back by law enforcement officers in 1965. The vice president praised the marchers’ bravery as they engaged in a defining moment of the civil rights struggle.

“Today, we know our fight for freedom is not over, because in this moment we are witnessing a full on attack on hard-fought, hard-won freedoms, starting with the freedom that unlocks all others, the freedom to vote,” Harris said.

She criticized attempts to restrict voting, including limits on early voting, and said the nation is again at a crossroad.

“What kind of country do we want to live in? Do we want to live in a country of freedom, liberty and justice? Or a country of injustice, hate and fear?” Harris asked, encouraging people to answer with their vote.

She said other fundamental freedoms under attack include “the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body.”

Harris paid tribute to the civil rights marchers who walked across the bridge in 1965 knowing they would face certain violence in seeking “a future that was more equal, more just and more free.”

Harris drew parallels between those who worked to stifle the Civil Rights Movement and “extremists” she said are trying to enact restrictions on voting, education and reproductive care.

Earlier Sunday, Attorney General Merrick Garland spoke at a Selma church service commemorating the anniversary of the attack by Alabama law officers on civil rights demonstrators. He said recent court decisions and certain state legislation have endangered voting rights in much of the nation.

“Since those (court) decisions, there has been a dramatic increase in legislative measures that make it harder for millions of eligible voters to vote and to elect representatives of their choice,” Garland told worshippers at Selma’s Tabernacle Baptist Church, the site of one of the first mass meetings of the voting rights movement.

“Those measures include practices and procedures that make voting more difficult; redistricting maps that disadvantage minorities; and changes in voting administration that diminish the authority of locally elected or nonpartisan election administrators,” he said. “Such measures threaten the foundation of our system of government.”

Decisions by the Supreme Court and lower courts since 2006 have weakened the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was passed in the wake of the police attacks in Selma, Garland said. The demonstrators were beaten by officers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965, as they tried to march across Alabama to support voting rights.

The march and Garland’s speech were among dozens of events during the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which began Thursday and culminated Sunday.

The commemoration is a frequent stop for Democratic politicians paying homage to the voting rights movement. Some in the crowd gathered to see Harris speak about the upcoming November election and what appears to be a looming rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Khadidah Stone, 27, part of a crowd gathered at the bridge Sunday in light rain before the march, said she sees the work of today’s activists as an extension of those who were attacked in Selma in 1965. Stone works for the voter engagement group Alabama Forward, and was a plaintiff in the Voting Rights case against the state that led to creating a second Alabama congressional district with a substantial number of Black voters. Voters will cast their first ballots in that district on Tuesday.

“We have to continue to fight, because they (voting rights) are under attack,” Stone said.

Nita Hill wore a hat saying “Good Trouble,” a phrase associated with the late Rep. John Lewis, who was beaten on the bridge during Bloody Sunday. Hill, 70, said it is important for Biden supporters to vote in November.

“I believe Trump is trying to take us back,” said Hill, a retired university payroll specialist.

Decades ago, images of the violence that at the bridge stunned Americans, which helped galvanize support for passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The law struck down barriers prohibiting Black people from voting.

U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, a Democrat of South Carolina who is leading a pilgrimage to Selma, said he is seeking to “remind people that we are celebrating an event that started this country on a better road toward a more perfect union,” but the right to vote is still not guaranteed.

Clyburn sees Selma as the nexus of the 1960s movement for voting rights, at a time when there currently are efforts to scale back those rights.

“The Voting Rights Act of 1965 became a reality in August of 1965 because of what happened on March 7th of 1965,” Clyburn said.

“We are at an inflection point in this country,” he added. “And hopefully this year’s march will allow people to take stock of where we are.”

Associated Press reporters Terry Spencer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Stephen Groves in Washington, D.C.; and Jeff Martin in Atlanta contributed to this report.

No, no, no! You need a great church welcome speech that’s going to welcome first-time visitors and set the right expectations.

Well, look no further because you’ve stumbled upon a goldmine of 10 dynamic church welcome speeches guaranteed to kickstart your service with a bang 💥

So let’s make your next service a service to remember , where hearts are touched, souls are stirred and lives are forever changed.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

What Is A Church Welcome Speech?

5 key elements of a church welcome speech, 10 church welcome speeches you can use, 4 great church welcome speech examples.

A church welcome speech is a brief address delivered at the beginning of a church service, usually by a church MC or worship leader..

More than a mere greeting, a church welcome speech is an opportunity to connect with both new and old faces, create a warm and inviting atmosphere, give valuable information and set the stage for a great worship experience.

Whether your church is big or small, black or white, Baptist or Pentecostal, in the US or the Philippines, a great church welcome speech has 5 key elements.

Let’s walk through each one 👇

1. A Simple Introduction

The key here is to keep it short and sweet, yet warm and friendly.

As they say: less is more.

Especially when it comes to opening your church service. Say what needs to be said and move on.

A good church welcome officially starts the service and gets everyone focused, so give a quick introduction of yourself and the church.

This can be as simple as “Good morning and welcome to Grace Church. I’m Abi and it’s great to see you all here.”

2. Set Expectations

When done right, the person opening the service can help raise the faith level of your church right before entering into worship.

Help set the tone by giving everyone a general idea of what’s going to happen. You don’t need to give a minute-by-minute breakdown of the service, just a quick overview is good enough.

This is a good place to mention your current sermon series  or special guest speaker if you have one.

3. Give Useful Information

Give everyone the practical information they need to relax and feel comfortable.

Gently remind people to put phones on silent, tell them they’ll be coffee afterwards and point out where the Kid’s Church and bathrooms are.

4. Welcome Visitors

It’s good to take a moment to specifically welcome first-time guests and let them know you’re glad they’re here.

Launching your service this way is not only a great way to make church visitors feel at home :

It also helps outward-focused culture and sends a clear message to members that this is a safe place they can invite their family and friends to.

If your church has visitor connect cards (so you can do follow-up later) ask them to fill them out and drop them in the offering basket as it passes by.

5. End With What’s Next

Now you’ve officially opened up the meeting, it’s time to transition into the next part of the service.

If you’re going into worship, have everyone stand. Lead everyone in a faith-filled prayer welcoming the Holy Spirit to move in hearts and minds.

If it’s the sermon next, thank God for His Word, pray that their hearts and minds be ready to receive what God has to say to his people, then have everyone clap their hands to welcome the preacher.

Let’s stand together and pray as we enter into worship. [PRAYER]

I wanted to end things here with some real-life examples and give you my thoughts on what I think works well.

It’s good to keep your speeches becoming predictable by mixing them up a little.

Here are 4 different styles and approaches you could take in your church:

1. The Comedic Approach

What a clever and funny way to open the service! Almost rapping, he does a great job of welcoming visitors, having them stand while the church applauds.

I also like how he sets expectations, saying “Today is Youth Sunday” .

2. The Evangelistic Approach

This wonderful woman has a really warm but powerful way of welcoming people to the church.

She starts off by getting people ready to worship and hear the Word. This can be a powerful way to set the tone for the rest of the service.

She introduces the church pastors and even points them out individually. This might work well depending on your style of church.

I was surprised to hear her nearly do an alter call saying “Don’t leave here today without knowing Jesus.”

She’s passionate and friendly, everything you want in someone giving the welcome at your church.

3. The Helpful Approach

This welcome takes less than a minute but works really well and is a great example of how we can make our church services more welcoming for guests.

He leads by introducing himself saying he’s part of the hospitality team and makes himself available if he can help them in any way, right before asking first-time visitors to stand up and thank them for coming.

4. The Faith-Fuelled Approach

This next one is short and sweet, but it’s a masterclass on how to use your church welcome speech to raise the faith level through the roof!

This was very helpful

thank you so much it is very helpful

very helpful and we’ll articulated

You made a good point that having a strong welcome speech that has emphasis on evangelization can help a lot in making the people ready for worship. I’m planning to get church worship services for my neighborhood association that will be celebrating its foundation day on December. If the quarantine has been lifted by then, I think having a thanksgiving Mass would be ideal for that gathering.

Very helpful, glad I found your site.

Thanks so much for this write up. I found it when looking for welcome Speech. It’s very detailed. Thanks

Great examples/ very usecul

I feel so bless coming across your site. I was assigned to do a welcome remark and I was about to refuse but thought of like saying “no” to Jesus. I prayed for guidance and Holy Spirit led me to it. Thank you for the wonderful ideas. Bless you Bishop!

  • Lots of free printable Anniversary Speeches that you can customize
  • And also help to structure you own speech to wow your guests.
  • Plus Anniversary Speech Samples that you can personalize

Anniversary Speech Structure

Just like every great story your speech needs a

  • middle
  • and an end.

Anniversary Speech Introduction

Your beginning or introduction will need to grab your guests attention.

This could in the way of a question ...

What is love?

What makes a Happy Marriage?

Where have the last … years gone?

quotes for anniversary speeches

Or it could be in the way of a quote

They say “Time flies when you are having fun” and that could not be truer for the past … years that I have spent as … husband (or wife)

“If I know what love is, it is because of you” Herman Hesse

You could paraphrase that quote to be more personal and start with If I know what love is, it is because of ….., I have loved him with all my heart since the day I met him at…

Or you could tell a joke, just be mindful of your audience!

Or start by telling everyone how you met.

Anniversary Speech Samples

Your middle is the main part of your speech

And it needs to lead on from your introduction.

If you started with a question, look at answering it.

What is love? According to Websters dictionary Love is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person  and I know that I have been lucky to love …. for … years.

Then go on to explain why you love them – their kindness, silliness or whatever it is. Share a story about when you knew you loved them or a time when they were amazing.

What makes a Happy Marriage? If you ever need an answer to that question just take a look at Mom and Dad. The little looks they give each other, the way they support each other through everything that life throws at them and how much they enjoy each other’s company. And then go on to share a story about them both.

You can end with a quote…

And to quote Robert Browning “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be”

“Real love stories never have endings” and I look forward to being in love with you for eternity.

Or end with a thank you…

I would like to end with a thank you to Mom and Dad for being such a great example and for the love and help they have given all of us.

Don’t forget to end with a toast!

I would like to thank … for putting up with me and my snoring for the past … years. You are my love, my rock and I am your number 1 fan.

Perfect Your Anniversary Speech

To give the best anniversary speech you will need to

  • Practise – lots!
  • Perfect until you have nailed it.

Timing with all speeches is so important and one way to make sure you have yours spot on is to either record yourself, time yourself and video yourself. The camera on your mobile will be fine for this.

You can then play it back and either add extra bits to your speech or take things out.

Also, see if you can say your speech to a few people so you can check if your jokes work and also get feedback from them.

Anniversary speech for your wife or girlfriend.

Thank you to all of you for being with us today to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, it means so much to both of us that you have been part of our lives and we love each and every one of you.

And for me, I need to say an even bigger thank you, to one very important lady… my wife….

For the past 25 years you have been my rock, my inspiration, you have lifted me through the bad times and cheered me on to great ones.

You are my one true love

And I am very lucky.

I won the lottery the day I met you and knew from the moment I saw you at … that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.

But how do you get a great woman like ….. to take notice of a kind of geeky/scruffy/sporty guy.

I would love to say it was through my charm, my looks and great wit.

But the truth is it was more my friend ….

*Tell story of how you met

Thank you …. For introducing us and vouching for me! We all need friends like that in our lives.

-           Toast to friend who introduced you

From then till now we have been blessed with 5 great children, 6 hamsters and have lived surrounded by family and friends.

Through that time my love for …….. has grown.

I am in awe of her ability to make a home where ever we live.

Her incredible tapestry, painting, writing or swing at golf. (Choose your wife’s hobby)

And her love of …….

She is an incredible woman and I would like to raise a toast to ……. Thank you.

Anniversary Speech For Your Husband or Boyfriend

A massive thank you to everyone for coming tonight to celebrate our 40th Anniversary, thank you for being part of our lives, you make ours richer by being you and we hope in some way we add to yours.

But wow, 40 years that’s quite a time and it has gone in a flash.

And all of this would not have been possible if 40 years ago I hadn’t married …… and if he hadn’t been such an easy man to love.

Although neither of us are perfect, we have our own strange little ways which I won’t be sharing with you tonight!

He is without doubt my perfect husband.

He is perfect for me, which reminds me of a quote I heard years ago…

A Perfect Marriage Is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on Each Other

Thank you ….. for being you

For laughing with me and at me. From the time when …. (add a fun story of the two of you)

For being a great dad to …. And ……

(add a sweet story showing him as a great dad)

And for being a perfect husband for me.

Looking forward to our next adventures.

I would like to raise a toast to ….. Happy Anniversary my love.

Anniversary Speech For Parents and Grandparents

Good evening everyone, I am ……. and honored to be with you all this evening and proud to be the son/daughter of …….. and ……….

This evening we celebrate their Golden Anniversary, 50 years of being Mr and Mrs

And wow what an amazing 50 years it has been.

They met … (tell the story – maybe quote their friends who were there at the time)

And luckily for me they fell in love and were married on …..

They have supported each other through …. (tell story of them helping each other)

And have enjoyed (share stories of hobbies, vacations and fun times they have both enjoyed)

I am lucky to have such great parents, they have shown me over the years what love is and have been selfless in their love for me and my brothers and sisters.

List why they are a great couple

They are a great example of what a strong and Happy Marriage is.

Thank you and raise a toast to your parents.

Anniversary Speech For Friends

Good evening everyone, I am …………. I have known ……….. and …………… for . years and feel that gives me an insight in to how they have such a Happy marriage.

For those of you that don’t know …….. and …………. met on (date) at (place) where ……… was looking as beautiful as she does this evening and …….. was looking his usual charming self.

Quote from husband about when they first met

Quote from wife about when they first met

As you can see they were both thinking the same thing from that first moment. (this can be said more as a joke if the quotes don’t say the same thing)

They are the perfect match.

 They both love ……

And enjoy spending time together and with their family.

Their children are here this evening and I know that they couldn’t be prouder of the people you have grown in to.

And I am proud to have them as friends.

They have shown me over the years what a great marriage is and tonight I would like us all to raise a toast to …. And wish them a very Happy Anniversary.

Short Anniversary Speech Ideas

If you would prefer to give a short Anniversary speech then that is perfectly fine, it really doesn't have to be a long-winding journey through all the years of marriage.

Instead a short and punchy speech that covers all the essentials works really well. Plus your guests may appreciate it too!

As with all speeches lets stick with the plan

  • A beginning - this is the why we are here today

Kamala Harris, Merrick Garland to march in Selma Crossing Jubilee to mark ‘Bloody Sunday’

  • The Associated Press

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to be among those marking the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the day Alabama law officers attacked Civil Rights demonstrators on the iconic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.

The demonstrators were beaten by officers as they tried to march across Alabama on March 7, 1965, in support of voting rights. A march across the bridge, which is a highlight of the commemoration in Selma every year, is planned for Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s march is among dozens of events during the annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which began Thursday and culminates Sunday. The events commemorate Bloody Sunday and the signing of the Voting Rights Act.

“During her speech, the Vice President will honor the legacy of the civil rights movement, address the ongoing work to achieve justice for all, and encourage Americans to continue the fight for fundamental freedoms that are under attack throughout the country,” the White House said in announcing her visit.

Harris joined the march in 2022, calling the site hallowed ground and giving a speech calling on Congress to defend democracy by protecting people’s right to vote. On that anniversary, Harris spoke of marchers whose “peaceful protest was met with crushing violence.”

“They were kneeling when the state troopers charged,” she said then. “They were praying when the billy clubs struck.”

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland was also expected to participate in Sunday’s events, the Department of Justice announced.

Images of the violence at the bridge stunned Americans, which helped galvanize support for passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Clyburn said he hopes the weekend in Alabama would bring energy and unity to the civil rights movement, as well as benefit the city of Selma.

“We need to do something to develop the waterfront, we need to do something that bring the industry back to Selma,” Clyburn said. “We got to do something to make up for them having lost that military installation down there that provided all the jobs. All that goes away, there’s nothing to keep young people engaged in developing their communities.”

U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland also is expected to attend the event in Selma.

Merrick Garland seeks a reset with Black voters at 'Bloody Sunday' anniversary

A ttorney General Merrick Garland’s remarks in Selma, Alabama, over the weekend, commemorating the anniversary of Bloody Sunday, sounded like a desperate affirmation to people likely unimpressed with his work to support voting rights.

In a speech at Tabernacle Baptist Church , Garland gave the audience a history lesson on the centuries-long fight for Black voting rights and said the Supreme Court decision gutting the Voting Rights Act freed up states to introduce voting laws that "threaten the foundation of our system of government." Then he touted things he says the Justice Department has done to shore up Black voters’ access to the polls, like filing lawsuits to challenge new voter identification requirements and restrictions on voting by mail, as well as lawsuits challenging gerrymandered congressional maps that dilute Black voter power.

Garland also touted the DOJ’s task force for prosecuting threats against election workers.

But from my vantage point, the most important thing he said acknowledged a widespread criticism of the DOJ’s voting rights work. He said that “there is so much more to do.”

The reality is that Garland has faced widespread criticism for what appears to be his department’s unwillingness — or unpreparedness — to defend voting rights with the vigor this moment demands.

Up till now, Garland’s DOJ has faced criticism from various federal officials over sentences it sought for convicted Jan. 6 rioters. It’s faced criticism from activists who’ve noticed a delay and lack of aggressiveness in the DOJ’s protection of voting rights. Despite launching the DOJ’s election worker task force, it’s faced criticism from state-level elected officials, including Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes , for its alleged meekness in defending election workers. And Garland is routinely dragged by liberal writers for his plodding efforts at holding former President Donald Trump accountable for election interference. Liberal writers have criticized his deference to conservative prosecutor Robert Hur in a special counsel probe over President Biden’s handling of classified documents. Hur's report seemed designed to hurt Biden’s re-election chances.

In hindsight, I imagine the Biden administration regrets nominating Garland to his position. While it may have felt nice to stick it to Republicans by appointing Garland to AG after they’d undemocratically denied him a chance to join the Supreme Court, he’s ultimately proven to be a pretty feckless attorney general. And that’s why, to me, Garland’s Bloody Sunday anniversary speech sounded like a man aware of the side-eyes he’s earned from liberals.

“We promise you that we will do our part,” he said, going on to add that “we know our democracy depends on it.”

And that sounds great. But no one’s ever doubted Garland’s ability to give a good speech. So damn the promises. When it comes to Garland’s support for voting rights, the proof will be in the pudding this fall.
