I have a pet dog and his name is Chandler. He is named after my favourite “ Friends ” character and has been with us for the last nine months. His colour is golden and his tail is bushy as he is a golden retriever. Chandler is very energetic and likes to play a lot with all of us. He runs extremely fast when chasing cats. He is very playful. We take good care of his diet. I give him foods like eggs, meat, fish, bread, rice, etc. Whenever I return from school, he wags his tail in joy and jumps and hops all around me as if celebrating. Chandler knows everybody in our family and whenever he sees a new person, he barks at them, but he is sweet and does not bite anyone. He is very intelligent as well and gives us handshakes with his paws. He understands whatever we tell, and on command, he sits and rolls over too. He is an essential part of our family and we all love him very much.

My pet dog is a Golden Retriever and his name is Cheddar. He is named after a dog seen on the famous sitcom “Brooklyn 99”. Cheddar is a very energetic and playful dog. He likes to go on walks a lot and play with frisbees and balls. My dad brought him home a year ago. Although I somewhat wanted a cat, now I love him the most. Bella, my sister is crazy about dogs, she wanted a dog since time immemorial. At first, our mother was sceptical about getting a pet, but now Cheddar is her favourite. She treats him just like the way she treats us.

My sister is particular about his timely vaccinations, eating habits, cleanliness, etc. She bathes him twice a week and every evening, we take him out for a stroll in the neighbourhood as well as the park. As mentioned before, Cheddar is quite active. Hence, we play with him in the park a lot. We throw a ball or a frisbee and play a game of fetch with him. He likes to roll in the leaves and it is fun to watch him do so. Along with being active, Cheddar is smart as well. At home, when his food is served, as long as we don’t say the word “go” he patiently waits. On command, he jumps and shakes hands with us using his paw. When told, he can roll over too. He amuses us with his daily fetching of random things like slippers, or one of his toys. We love him with all our heart and he has become an essential member of our family.

My pet’s name is Mario. He is a two-year-old German Shepherd. I was in 6th grade when my father brought Mario home when he was just 45 days old. His cute little face was so fluffy I could just hug and kiss him all day. I bought a soccer ball, with which he and I used to play all day long. Being in school, I used to think about what is he doing right now or today I’ll take him for a walk to the park, where we will play soccer, etc.

His unconditional love has always been there as a stress reliever. His loyalty, unwavering support and companionship have been with me in my good and bad times. Now that he is an adult, I have taken all his responsibilities like feeding him, bathing him, taking him for walks, etc.

Mario once fell ill due to a cold, and whatever he was eating, he was not able to digest it. I got s worried that I took him to the vet, where he was given a penicillin shot as an antibiotic treatment. I was so scared that I held him with my hands and he was lying there, unconscious. Two hours later, he gained his consciousness and started licking my face. All my sorrow and sadness vanished away in a second, seeing his beautiful eyes and fluffy tail wavering all over the table.

Now that he is completely healthy, I take him for his walks every day, where he is always filled with excitement to explore the other world. As a loyal friend, my dog, Mario, has never demanded anything except for 3 times of meals and a walk. Whether it’s a game of fetch in the backyard or a stroll in the park, every shared moment is a treasure that adds richness to my life.

Both cats and dogs make wonderful pets, each offering unique qualities that appeal to different people. Cats are generally more independent animals. Dogs are social animals that thrive on companionship. They usually need more attention, exercise, and social interaction.

Dogs are known as the best friends of humans because they bring loyalty, joyous moments, unconditional love and life-teaching lessons. Some of the best dog breeds for domestication are German Shepherd, Siberian Huskey, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Beagle and Boxer.

500+ Words Essay on My Pet Dog

Pets are a great blessing in anyone’s life. They are the only ones who love us unconditionally. Pets always offer us everything they have without asking for anything in return. The main aim of any pet’s life is to make their owner happy. Nowadays, even the term ‘owner’ is changing. People prefer their pets as kids and to themselves as parents. This is how the relationship between pets is evolving. People treat them no less than humans. For instance, they celebrate their birthdays; get those matching outfits and more.

In my opinion, I feel the pets rightly deserve it. The most common pet you can find at anyone’s place is dogs. A man’s best friend and the most faithful animal, a dog. I also have a pet dog that I love to bits. We got him when he was a little baby and have watched him grow into a beautiful dog. All my family members love him with all their heart. We love his silly antics and cannot imagine our lives without him. We named him Sasha.

Sasha – My Pet Dog

My father adopted Sasha when he was a little baby. His friend had given birth to puppies and they decided to put the puppies up for adoption. We convinced our father to get one for us. Considering they knew our family well, they immediately agreed. Little did we know that our lives would change forever after his entrance.

Essay on My Pet Dog

Sasha came in like a blessing for our family. He belongs to the breed of Labrador. Sasha was black in colour, pure coal black. He came in as a puppy with his cute little paws and eyes. We couldn’t stop gushing over this beauty. My siblings used to fight with each other as to who will get the maximum time to play with Sasha.

As and when Sasha grew up, he learned various tricks. We trained him to follow our instructions and he even learned a few tricks. We loved showing him off to our colony friends and relatives. I always took Sasha out with me as he loved taking a walk on the road.

Furthermore, my siblings and I took on the responsibility of keeping Sasha clean. Every week, we took turns to bathe him and brush him nicely. I remember I even got a bow for him from my pocket money. Sasha loved it and wagged his tail in excitement. Sasha has been with us through thick and thin and we will forever be indebted to him for his loyalty.

A Changed Life

Before having a pet dog, we didn’t know what all we would experience. After Sasha came into our lives, he changed it forever. Sasha changed the meaning of loyalty for us. We learned how this faithful animal always worked for our happiness and safety.

Certainly, Sasha made us better human beings. We are now more compassionate towards animals. There was one instance where the stray dogs were going to harm a kitten, and to our surprise, Sasha saved that little kitten and got her home.

In other words, we have learned a lot of things from Sasha. He protected us when we slept at night. He tried to cheer us up whenever anyone of us was sad. Sasha’s obedience inspired me a lot to be kind to my parents. Therefore, all the credit for changing our lives goes to Sasha.

My Pet Essay

Everyone should have a pet in their life. They are the only ones who genuinely love us. Animal companions always give us everything they have without expecting anything in return. Here are a few sample essays on the topic ‘my pet’.

100 Words Essay On My Pet

I have a pet dog who is very beautiful. I named him Tommy. He has been with us for the last nine months. He is black in colour and has a bushy tail. He runs very fast, especially when he is chasing cats. Tommy is healthy and playful. I always give him healthy food like meat, egg, fish, bread, rice, etc. When I come back from school, he wags his tail with joy and licks my face. Tommy knows everybody in my family and he barks when he sees a new person, but does not bite anyone. He is very intelligent and he has become an important part of my family now.

My Pet Essay

200 Words Essay On My Pet

Keeping a pet was the best decision of my life. I have owned many types of home pets, like fish and tortoises. I love taking care of them. Fish and pets are considered very auspicious. They bring good fortune and good luck. Fishes are perfect pets for those who don’t have time, as they don’t require any training or grooming. Fishes are easy to care for as they shed no hair and require low maintenance. I have a goldfish. Her fascinating colour grabs much of my attention. I adore feeding her because when I do so, she jumps in the aquarium to grab it.

My tortoise, on the other hand, is very quiet and cute. He plays with logs, dirt mounds, and rocks. He eats cabbage, beans, sweet potatoes, and earthworms. Tortoise drinks water in the most simple yet fantastic way. He outstretches his neck, lowers his head, and places their nose at the bottom of the bowl. I always try my best to give them a happy and healthy environment. I devote a good time to their supervision. I like taking care of them whenever I can and when I’m feeling upset about something, I have a habit of talking to them about troubles after which I always feel better.

500 Words Essay On My Pet

Cats are the cutest pet I have ever seen. I got my cat as a gift from my grandmother. She gave me the cat on my 16th birthday. I was so excited and happy to see her for the first time. My grandmother carried her in a beautiful bamboo basket decorated with many ribbons and flowers. Her cute little eyes, mesmerizing purr, and white fur made me fall in love with her. I love spending time with her.I named her Sparkles because of her beautiful eyes. The way she drinks milk by licking her tongue in the bowl intrigues me.

Every morning I play with her to make sure she stays physically and mentally active. She loves to play with Teddy bears and balls. Her favourite toy is a yellow sponge ball. She loves to throw it around. I sometimes sit still and observe her. She is very friendly. I love to click pictures and selfies with her. Cats are easy to keep. Cats are magical, and many believe that they bring good luck. My cat has been a lucky charm for me.

Food For My Pet

Pets come with many responsibilities and duties. I admire Sparkles the most, but there are many aspects of her life where I have to take my mom's help. My mom looks after the food for my cat. She always conducts a good amount of research about her diet before buying food for her. She takes good care of her diet, which contains all the required vitamins and minerals. As meat is one of the cats' favourite food, I always make sure to bring meat for her. Liver, cooked egg, meat, and chicken are suitable for cats.

Cats are carnivorous, but they can eat some veggies. Cats can eat bread, bananas, and blueberries. Cats also enjoy dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. Cats love to sip milk. Many food items such as grapes, onion, garlic, and chocolates are poisonous for cats.

Safety Tips For Pet Cat

We need to take good care of our pets diligently. If a pet has a thick coat of fur, then they need to be taken for a regular haircut to keep them clean and comfortable. We need to keep our pets away from fireworks, as burns and injuries can be fatal and the sounds scare them away.

We also should be mindful about keeping away the food we eat as most of our food can be harmful to their health. Garbage bins should be kept out of the reach of pets. Their nails have to be cut and trimmed properly so they don't hurt themselves or anyone else and they have to be updated with all their vaccinations as it is good for their health. Human beings are also safe with pets if they are vaccinated.

Advantages Of Having A Pet

Pets are sensible and helpful creatures. They support and boost our mental health. Pets have also proven to help us with depression by giving us companionship. Regular walking with pets can help in keeping blood pressure and keep our cholesterol low. Pets bring positive energy into the house, and they also energize you. If you are looking for a loyal friend and companion, you should consider having a pet.

He’s certainly more than just man’s best companion –he’s my partner-in-crime who stands loyally by at all times!

My pet dog loves to cuddle and enjoys curling up with me on the couch or in bed. He isn’t shy about his appetite either, eagerly awaiting even a crumb of food! Nothing brings him more joy than getting some loving attention – just give him a few pats on the head or rubs under his belly and he’ll be wagging that tail quicker than you know it!

Essay on My Pet Dog for Students

Essay writing is a crucial part of language studies. Not just that, it is also a mandatory question in the school exam. Essay writing is included in the exam to check students’ imagination and how well they can weave their thoughts into words. It also evaluates someone’s understanding of language and grammar. Many people love to have dogs as their pets as they are friendly, loyal and a great stress reliever. Students can get a free essay on My Pet Dog at Vedantu’s site.

An Introduction On My Pet Dog

The relationship between humans and dogs can’t be expressed in words. Dogs are loyal and friendly and their love is unconditional. Make friends with dogs and you will never feel lonely. A dog is a domestic animal. Dogs are harmless unless someone attacks them.

On the way back from school, I found a helpless hungry puppy lying on the roadside. I brought it home. It was obvious, my mother burst with anger on seeing this. But with time, my mother accepted him and allowed him to stay with us. He has sparkles in his eyes which attracted us. My sister called him Sheru and that’s how he got a new name. Sheru does not demand much but good food, frequent conversation, exercise and a little fun activity.

Sheru is a member of our family. He loves to play and jumps all around the house. Everyone in the family loves him dearly as he is a stress buster for us. He is loyal and is a protractor of our family. There are a lot of lessons for why everyone must have dogs at home. Life becomes easy when you have an anytime available mate like them. They provide sympathy in our bad times, behave like a bodyguard in times of crises and a loving sibling at the time when we are lonely.

Long Essay on Pet Dogs

Around the world, people keep various animals as their pets. Some are fond of cats, while others prefer fish aquariums, some love to play with cows in the cattle field. But by far, the most adored animal on the planet is a dog. It is called a man’s best friend for the same reason. The loyalty of a dog is unmatched and unbeatable. The best instinct in dogs is to protect their owner. In a world that is constantly changing and there is a rush in every aspect of life, pets provide a sense of security and peace for their owners. When the owner returns home, he/she finds a dog waiting and jumps towards them with a sense of joy and excitement. Dogs are an excellent company. A loyal confidante and undeniably cute. There are various instances in which dogs have shown their bravery, saved the lives of their owners. Some dogs, even though they aren't physically savage, still manage to rescue their owners from danger. The dogs can sense something wrong before it even happens. Animals are gifted with a sixth sense.

For introverted people, dogs tend to be the perfect companions. The company of a dog is what a person needs when he/she is sad or upset. Dogs provide love and support, and they accurately detect when their owner is sad or crying.

Studies have shown that being in company with a dog can result in less anxiety. For someone battling with anxiety disorder, I can vouch for it, that dogs are the greatest stress busters, and sometimes even replace therapy sessions. A long walk with a dog can do the trick.

Types of Dogs

Dogs come in a variety of breeds. The most famous dog breeds are Labrador retrievers, bulldogs, german shepherds and pugs.

Although all the dogs are extremely friendly, nothing can beat a labrador when it comes to friendliness. They are loving and understand when their owner is upset or happy. The German shepherds, Dobermann and the bulldogs are quite protective, they serve well if the owner is living alone. The smaller breeds like pug and chihuahua are cute and are not that hard to tame. Pomeranians with their long hair are a little hard to maintain, but still can be done.

In a real-life incident that happened in 2013, a mountain dog called Bella saved her owner out of a burning house. That's how protective and caring the dogs are.

The reason dogs are so protective when it comes to their owners is that they consider them a family. But for a dog to act right when it's being protective it needs to be trained. Most dogs act aggressively when they are protective.

Short Essay On My Pet Dog

Owning a dog is also a huge responsibility and commitment. Owning a dog means taking care of it like a family member. It is like having a younger sibling or a small child in the home that constantly needs care and attention.

Before owning a pet, one also needs to know how to train a dog as it is quite important.

The dogs also need timely health checkups and they need to be taken to the vet constantly. The diet should also be taken care of since most dogs are allergic to some things.

How Do Dogs Positively Affect Human Health?

Research has shown that, in the company of dogs, humans are more cheerful and happy. It is also known to reduce anxiety in humans as well as lower blood pressure. In severe cases, being in the company of dogs has cured depression and other mental health issues.

Health Around Dogs

Any scratches or bites from dogs can be painful and may even be infectious, especially when dogs don't feel safe around something or are scared. The dog injuries can be prevented by training them and also taking a handful of precautions. Regular visits to the vet clinic can be helpful to keep any dog's infections or mites on the bay.

When petting the dog make sure the hands are washed before and after. This will reduce the risk of infections if any.

The dogs also need hygienic surroundings. The food supplies and the dog utensils should be kept clean.

It is a human need to be loved and appreciated, and dogs do that pretty well. With the company of a dog, a human can seldom feel alone. Humans are more likely to recover from illnesses when they are in the company of a dog. The interesting fact is that owning a dog will increase one's physical activity and well-being, as you need to consistently take them out for a walk outdoors, it is a win-win for both the owner and the dog.

I still remember the day me and my sister went to the pet shop with my father to bring it home. I somehow wanted to pet a cat but my elder sister, Riya is almost crazy about dogs and was adamant that we get a dog as a pet. Other members of my family also believed that keeping a dog as a pet was a better choice and so a cute little one month old pug came home with us that day and became a part of our family.

Though everyone in the family takes care of Swigi, my sister is especially particular about its cleanliness, vaccinations and eating habits. We make Swigi bath twice a week. It is actually my favourite time of the week. We take it to the terrace and bathe him with a pipe. We make sure it gets its food on time and goes for stroll twice every day. Swigi also accompanies us everywhere we go.

Swigi is quite an active dog and loves playing with ball. It is super fun playing with it.

At the time of the first event, Barney was just 10 months old. It was hyper active and won the hurdle race. During the second event, it was 2 years old won the bird hunt game. In the third event, it again participated in a race and came third. Barney was 4 years old then.

My Pet Dog is Very Vigilant

Barney remains vigilant all the time. It barks at the sound of any hustle near the home especially at night. It has a strong smelling sense and grows suspicious if it experiences any strange or unfamiliar smell. Dogs are extremely faithful and want nothing but the best for their masters. Barney is no exception. It is very protective about our family and thus guards our house at all times.

I love spending time with Barney. It makes me forget all my tensions and worries. It stands near the front door waiting for me when it is time for me to come home from school and wags its tail as soon as it sees me. We are both extremely delighted to see each other.

My Pet Dog Essay – 400 words

I have an adorable Dachshund as my pet. It is an extremely lively dog and always keeps us on toes whenever we are out to play with it. We have named it Buddy and it indeed is our best Buddy. Dachshunds are very friendly and cheerful. Buddy has gelled along extremely well with our family and loves all of us dearly. We also love it with all our heart.

My Pet Dog’s Features

With their long and low bodies, Dachshunds look quite different from the other breeds of dogs. Here is how my Buddy looks like and behaves:

  • Buddy is chocolate brown in colour and is long haired.
  • It is a miniature sized Dachshund.
  • It has a very strong smelling power.
  • It has a very pleasant and friendly disposition. It befriends all our friends, neighbours and relatives who come home and is eager to play with them.
  • It is also very brave and clever. It always remains cautious about who roams around in the street next to our house and barks at any suspicious or unfamiliar person around.
  • It is also very curious about things.
  • It is Fun Playing with Buddy

Dachshunds are hyper active and always keen on playing different games. Buddy particularly loves playing with the ball. So every evening we take it out for around half an hour and indulge him in this activity. It is not only fun for Buddy but an extremely amazing experience for me and my brother too.

Buddy also loves travelling. We often go for weekend outings and Buddy is always super excited to go along with us. Since it is small in size, it is not a hassle to take it along. It does not even require much food which makes it quite travel-friendly.

It has been a year that we have brought him home and our friends and cousins have started visiting us all the more since then. A cheerful soul that it is, everyone is fond of it and wants to spend time with it.

We mostly keep it tied with a chain when it is home. My mother particularly makes it a point that Buddy is tied with its chain near the balcony. This is because the moment we untie it, it runs around the house breaking every single thing that comes its way.

Pet dogs are fun to be around and especially if it is a Dachshund, you can never get bored. Each day seems exciting and fun in its company. Buddy is the lifeline of our family.

My Pet Dog Essay – 500 words

When I was young, we had a Doberman as a pet. It became a part of my family even before I was born. So, I knew him from the time I was born. Doberman have a strong sixth sense and always remain vigilant. However, you can see their soft side when they are in the company of little kids and I have experienced this side of my pet Doberman whom we lovingly called, Bruno.

Why My Parents Decided to Pet a Dog?

My parents shifted to Goa soon after their marriage. They found a house on rent. It was a beautiful house that was well-suited for a family of two. However, the only problem was that the house stood aloof. It was at a distance from the other houses in the vicinity. In order to ensure the safety and security of my mother as my father went to the office, it was decided to bring home a pet dog. They decided to go for a Doberman as it is a fearless, brave and sturdy dog. Owing to this nature, Doberman dogs are also preferred in police and military services all around the world.

My mother was already fond of dogs and Bruno became her best friend in the new city. Since, Doberman require exercise every day, she took it for walk twice every day. My dad also enjoyed its company. Bruno grew extremely fond of me as soon as I was born and guarded me all the time. It also played with me.

Why We Had to Give Away Our Doberman?

I was extremely attached to Bruno and so was my mother. However, we had to give it away as my father got a good job opportunity in the United States and we had to shift there for two years. With heavy heart, we gave him to one of our neighbours who gladly took it home. We often called them up to ask for Bruno’s well being.

How I Found An Indian Spitz?

We shifted back to India after two years however, this time to a different city. I wanted to keep a pet dog again but my mother was not keen on it. However, it seemed like God heard my wish and fulfilled it.

One day when I was walking back home from school, I saw a Spitz struggling to get its leg out of a cycle tyre. I immediately went to help it. It was someone’s pet but seemed like it had lost its way. I helped it get rid of the tyre and gave a pat on its head. Spitzs are known to be quite affectionate. It began licking my arm. I looked around for its master but could not find anyone. As I began walking home, it started following me. I kept taking it back to the place I had found it for weeks in the hope to find its master but did not find anyone. Since then, it stays with us. I have named it Jiggles.

Dogs are very loving and caring. They shower love and are faithful to their masters. It is an amazing feeling to have a dog as a pet.

My Pet Dog Essay – 600 words

I have a pet dog named Roger. It is a German shepherd and it has been a part of my family since the last 3 years. It is very warm, friendly and playful. However, outsiders often find it dangerous. This is because of its built and colour. It is vigilant and guards our house all the time.

Why I wanted to keep a Pet Dog?

Everyone in my family is fond of Roger. We all treat him like a family member. We cannot imagine life without him. However, I still remember the time when I wanted to keep a pet dog and all my family members were against the idea. I was 8 years old that time and my friend, Aanya owned a very cute little pug. She always brought it to the park. Whenever I visited her place, I saw her playing with it. Both of them looked so happy and loved each other’s company. Many a times, I called Aanya to play with me at my home but she refused saying she was busy feeding or bathing Roger. I felt really bad and wished that I too had a dog as a company. It is then that I decided to bring home a pet dog.

How I struggled to get My Pet Dog?

I knew I wanted a dog as a pet but I wasn’t aware that it would be such a struggle for me to convince my parents to get one home. As soon as, the thought of keeping a pet dog came into my mind, I rushed to my mom and told her that I want to get one home. My mother just laughed and dismissed my request with a pat on my cheek. I repeated my wish and she again took it lightly. This infuriated me and I told her that I really wanted a pet. It was then that my mother realized that I was serious about it. So she made me sit and explained as to why we could not keep a pet.

Both my parents are working. Though my grandparents live with us, they are old and taking care of a pet would have been too much to ask from them. Besides, my brother was a toddler then and my mother feared that he might catch infection. She tried to explain all these points to me. But I did not listen to any of her explanations. I went to my grandmother and requested her to convince mom to get a pet dog. My grandmother also tried to explain the same points. However, I kept convincing her for days and she finally agreed to take care of the dog for half the day until I came home from school. The rest was all my responsibility.

Somehow, I also convinced my father. Since he has a liking for dogs, convincing him was not that difficult. So finally my mother had to agree. We went to a nearby pet shop and my heart went drooling over this 2 months old German shepherd who was sleeping peacefully in a small cage. I knew at once that I wanted to keep him.

Roger won everyone’s Heart

Roger was so small and cute that almost everyone in my family fell in love with it as soon as I brought him home. My mother who detested the idea of bringing a pet home also found it cute and grew fond of it over the time. Dogs love babies and are very protective about them. Roger and my younger brother thus became friends almost instantly. Super excited about including Roger in the family, I told all my friends about it the same day.

Roger has become an inseparable part of our lives today and I just love it. Dogs are really adorable. I feel that everyone should keep a pet dog.

Essay on My Pet Dog for Students and Children in 1000+ Words

Animals have a major role to play in balancing an environment . Apart from that, in certain respects, they are useful to humans. People love to have a lot of animals in their homes. Among them, the dog really is an animal that you can see “my pet” as a companion in many homes.

Pets are an immense gift to anyone’s life. They’re the only people that love us unconditionally. Pets still give us everything they have without waiting for much in exchange—the primary aim of every pet’s life to make their owners pleased.

Even the word ‘owner’ is growing today. People prefer their dogs to be children and be their guardians. This is how the bond with pets is increasing. People should not treat them worse than people. E.g., they’re celebrating their birthdays, have the matching outfits, and much more.

The canine has been a human partner since prehistoric days, so we find these dogs worldwide. There are hundreds of these breeds. However, every variation has one common factor, honesty , and fidelity to the lord.

My favorite pet dog

I believe that pets deserve it. Dogs are the most popular pet you can see in anyone’s location—the greatest friend of man and the most loyal animal, the canine. I love bits whenever it happens to my pet.

We got him once he was a kid, or we saw him develop into a big dog. Both my members of the family love them from all their souls. We love his dumb shenanigans, and without him, we can’t picture our lives. Well, we call him Bruno.

My family likes dogs very much. There are only a few dogs with various types in my neighborhood. Still, Bruno is the name of my favorite dog amongst all these breeds.

I chose him, along with his few distinctive attributes. Bruno refers to a popular dog breed named Labrador retriever. Bruno is a full-bodied chocolate-colored body with such a black border across the neck.

Bruno is my pet dog, and he is faithful , genuine, and very devoted to his owner. Bruno is quick to train.

In quite a short time, he learned to dive, comprehend, and follow my orders. He takes up my orders easily and executes them immediately. Bruno is a very healthy dog, guy.

My dad adopted Bruno while he was a child. His friend had given birth to pets, and they wanted to put the pups available for adoption. We’ve persuaded our dad to buy one for us.

Considering that they knew our families well, they readily decided. Little did we realize that after his arrival, our lives would forever change.

Bruno came in as a gift to our family. Belonging to a Labrador breed, he is black, and pure black tar. He became my companion as a puppy with his adorable little paws and eyes. We haven’t been able to stop gushing about this charm. My brothers and sisters used to compete with one another to have the most opportunity to enjoy with Bruno.

When my pet Bruno grew up, he learned a lot of tricks. We taught him to follow our orders, and he really knew two tricks. We enjoyed introducing him to friends and family in our community. I’ve always taken Bruno out with me since he loves to take a stroll on the lane.

Besides, my brothers and I have taken on the task of keeping Bruno tidy. We took turns each week to bathe him or clean him neatly. I recall getting a bow for him out of my pocket money. Bruno liked it, and he wagged his tail in happiness . Bruno has been here thru thick or thin, and we’ll be forever grateful to him for his dedication.

At midnight, the fire broke out during our home. He saw the risk that we were in. My pet dragged my quilt aside and kept me awake. He took me to a kitchen. To my utter surprise, I noticed that a heap with dry fuel was lying there, and then all the fire climbed to the roof, or at once, and the other house members climbed from sleep. They kept the fire under control in the next few minutes. This action of Bruno cherished us all the more.

I’m taking excellent care of him, and every day I bathe him with soap. I feed him with milk and wheat. Occasionally, I even give bones and skin. It is regarded as a family member. Any member of a household is respected and valued. Visitors who visited the house enjoy it, too.

Several proposals were made for me, but I’m not going to be aware of it at any time. Separation is now out of the question, as he reacts to my affection. He’s still by my side, and his faithfulness is unquestionable. My pet is really loyal to me.

My Pet Changed my Life

We did not realize what we’d learn until we got a pet dog. He changed things forever since Bruno came through our lives. Bruno has shifted the definition of allegiance to us. We have heard how this loyal companion has always served for our comfort and wellbeing.

Certainly, Bruno has made us stronger human beings. We are much more humane for animals today. There was one incident where the stray dogs will hurt a kitten, or to our delight, Bruno rescued the little kitten or took her home.

In many other words, we learned many things from my pet. He was shielding us while we sleep at night. He was trying to cheer us up if any of us was down. Bruno’s obedience has encouraged me a lot and is kind to my family. So, all the praise for improving our life goes to Bruno.

10 line on My Pet

  • The name of my pet dog is Bruno. That’s from the German Shepherds’ group.
  • He’s two years old, fluffy, black, and tan.
  • He’s going to be happy to see me once I come back from training.
  • It prevents our houses from intruders, particularly during the nights.
  • He spends much of his time with my dad or me.
  • He’s very patient with us, but he’s highly violent when he spots an outsider.
  • He’s going with my dad for morning hikes, and with me for evening hikes.
  • We’re feeding him with nutritious food, new milk, and poultry.
  • He likes to move, hop, and run. He’s been swamped all the time.
  • 10. When I get angry, my pet perks me up by kissing me and showering a lot of affection. I do enjoy him too much.

Pets are also a member of the house. They give the owners genuine affection. In reality, the word “keeper” is fading some days. People imagine their dogs to be their offspring and their own guardians. This is how the relationship with dogs has grown over the years. From honoring their special days to dressing them up in quirky clothing, we treat pets like children.

And all of them have held dogs as the companion of animals for some point in time. Dogs are the safest pet creatures you can hold. They are obedient to their owner & even supportive in their everyday tasks.

The obedience that a dog displays to its owner is the best lesson human beings can gain from them. They are the companions of men who are always true to them and in their good or poor days. Further, all they have to is a little piece of bread as well as a lot of affection.

My pet essay is an essential children’s essay subject. Essay composition is a talent that young people are increasingly cultivating by practice. It helps to develop a sound comprehension of the language and strengthens students’ writing skills. Hope you liked this essay on my pet.

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Pet’ for Class 1, 2 and 3 Children

Few lines on ‘my pet’ for children, short essay on ‘my pet’ for kids, long essay on ‘my pet’ for kids in english, what will your child learn by writing an essay on pets.

Growing up with a pet is the most wonderful experience. Having a constant buddy around to play with, children are most excited about having a pet at home. In fact, it is often the children who plead with their parents to adopt and bring home a pet. The pets, too, form a close sibling-like bond with the children of the house. So when it comes to writing about their pets, children will have several ideas to pen down. Let’s help them organise their thoughts and feelings and write an essay that will be engaging for the reader. Most children will be confident about this topic but may need a structure to help them articulate their ideas. There may also be some children who don’t have pets of their own and may have to write this essay from their imagination. These tips will help children write a few lines, small compositions and long essays on the topic of ‘My Pet’.

Children who have a pet may be full of ideas in their minds. But those who don’t have a pet at home will have to write based on their experience with someone who has pets, maybe a friend or a relative. When guiding a child on how to write an essay on pets, there are a few things you can ask them to incorporate in the write-up. Here are some key points that could help them write an impressive essay:

  • Start with an introduction about how animals are important to humankind.
  • Progress to the next step by stressing how bringing home a pet can be a different experience and contribute to one’s well-being.
  • Go on to describe which animal would be ideal to have as a pet.
  • Describe the qualities of the animal and how they came into your life.
  • Elaborate on the pet – name, behaviour and qualities.
  • Mention how you look after them and care for them.
  • Speak about how you spend time with the pet and the facilities you have made for the pet to feel safe at your home.
  • Speak about how popular the pet is in the neighbourhood.
  • Write about who the pet is closest to.
  • Conclude by stressing the importance of the pet’s presence at home and how it completes the family.

A short essay on ‘My Pet’ for a first-grader would entail writing a few descriptive lines about the pet. Here’s is an example of how to help your child write a few lines on the topic:

  • The pet I have is a dog, a man’s best friend.
  • We call him ‘Rafa’.
  • Rafa is a Labrador and white in colour and has a bushy tail with a black tip.
  • He eats pet food that we buy especially for him from the supermarket.
  • We have trained him to perform some actions like “Sit”, “Fetch the Ball,” and “Shake hands.”
  • We have a small kennel for him where he rests during the day when we are all away at school.
  • Once we come back home, we take him for a walk around our apartment complex.
  • He is the star of the apartment as everyone loves him. He is also playful with them.
  • Rafa is also our watchdog as he keeps a close eye on strangers who enter the apartment.
  • My dog is a part of my family, and we love him very much.

Students of class 2 are expected to display a higher level of writing proficiency. By now, children are familiar with linguistic aspects of English like grammar, punctuations and spelling. When asked to write about their pet, they would be required to compose a paragraph on the topic that would carry more weightage in terms of marks or points awarded. Here is a sample of an essay on ‘My Pet’ for Class-2 students:

A pet is like a family member. Having a pet is more like looking after a child, but pets cannot speak. If you shower them with love and affection, they will be most affectionate and loyal to you. My family and I always wanted a pet, so we got a cat. We call him ‘Tom’. Black and white in colour, Tom has a long tail that he curls when he’s hungry or wants us to cuddle him. We feed him pet food from a small bowl that we got for him. We take him for walks around our small bungalow, during which he loves climbing on our walls. Tom loves chasing mice and is scared of the dogs around our house. We love spending time with Tom, and he loves us too.

Children in the third grade will generally be expected to write a long essay on their pets. This might sound challenging but let’s make it simple for them. Guide them to split the topic into various points and then elucidate their thoughts to compose a long paragraph. Here’s a guide that will help your child write a long essay on ‘My Pet’.

Dogs are a man’s best friend. It is indeed true as dogs are the most loyal and friendly animals. My parents also love dogs. They both have had dogs as pets when they grew up. So, when we moved into our new home, the first thing that we did after setting up the house was to go and get a puppy.

We reached the animal rescue centre, and our eyes fell on a little puppy who was just two weeks old. It was a Golden Retriever, and we got him home immediately. We named him Marco and set up a kennel for his home. We placed him there and looked after him for the next few weeks till he became comfortable. Once he started moving and jumping around, he followed us just like every other puppy. He would wag his tail if he wanted to go out or just jump on us if he wanted to fall asleep.

Every night my father takes him out for a walk. Marco enjoys this time with my father and eagerly looks forward to it. Just when I am going to be back from school, Marco waits behind the door for me. As I enter, he jumps all over me to welcome me home. He gives my mother a cuddle when he finds her relaxing on the chair when she is tired. Marco is a part of our family, and we love him very much. He has made us better human beings by showing his affection through actions and words.

Writing an essay on ‘My Pet’ will help children understand how to express their thoughts about a pet and write in a manner that will make an impact. Expression, writing creatively, and structuring are the most important takeaways from this essay. Children will also get a deeper understanding of caring for animals. The ones who don’t have a pet at home will be encouraged to think creatively and write based on their observations and imagination.

Encourage your child to follow these tips and read through these essays before writing their own essay on their pet. This beginner’s guide will help children channelise their ideas and ace the skill of essay writing. Children will learn the depth and nuances of creative writing, which will help them not just in the English subject but other subjects too.

The Day I Lost My Pet Dog Essay:

It was a sunny summer day when my family and I went out for a picnic in the park. We had packed sandwiches, fruits, and some snacks to enjoy while we played outdoor games. My younger sister and I were excited to spend the day playing with our dog, Max.

Max was our family pet who brought so much joy into our lives. He was a golden retriever with shiny fur and bright brown eyes. He loved to play fetch, go on walks, and cuddle with us whenever he could. Max was always there for us no matter what, and we loved him more than anything in the world.

After we finished eating lunch, my sister and I decided to take Max for a walk around the park. As we were playing fetch with him, I noticed that his leash had come loose. Before I could react, Max ran off chasing a squirrel into the dense woods nearby. My heart sank as I realized he was gone.

My family and I searched for hours, calling out his name and asking people if they had seen him. But there was no sign of Max anywhere. We were devastated and didn’t know what to do. As it started getting dark, we had to go back home without our beloved pet.

The next few days were filled with sadness and worry as we continued to search for Max. We put up posters around the neighborhood and even contacted local animal shelters. But it seemed like Max had vanished without a trace.

Losing Max taught me that life is unpredictable and we should cherish every moment with our loved ones. Even though we never found him, the memories we shared will always hold a special place in our hearts. Max may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

He was not just a pet, but a member of our family who will always be missed and remembered with love. So, it’s important to appreciate and treasure the moments spent with those who mean the most to us because we never know when they might be taken away from us. Cherish your loved ones while you have them by your side.

That way, even if they’re no longer with you physically, their memory will continue to live on within you forever.

Losing Max also taught me the importance of responsible pet ownership. We should always make sure to keep our pets safe and secure, especially when in public places. As much as we may love them, they are also vulnerable creatures who rely on us for their safety and well-being.

My family and I still miss Max every day, but we have learned to cope with his loss. We know that he is now running free and happy somewhere over the rainbow bridge, looking down on us with those bright brown eyes filled with love.

Rest in peace, Max – you will always hold a special place in our hearts. So, never take your loved ones or pets for granted because you never know when you might lose them. Cherish each moment spent together and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

Remember , love knows no boundaries and transcends time – it will always live on, even when our loved ones are no longer physically with us. So hold them close, tell them you love them, and make the most of every moment you have together.

Because in the end, those precious moments and memories are all that truly matter. Never forget to appreciate and cherish the bond between you and your loved ones, whether they have two legs or four. And always remember to keep your pets safe and secure because they are not just pets – they are a part of our family who deserve our love and protection.

Essay on My Pet Dog in English For Students

One of the best things about having a pet dog is the unconditional love they give. They are always excited to see you, wagging their tails and showering you with kisses. Whether you’ve had a good day or a bad one, your dog will always be there to cuddle with you and make you feel better. Having a dog by your side can make you feel less lonely and more connected to the world around you. Pets dogs are not just great company; they can also improve your physical and mental health.

In return for all the love and joy they bring into our lives, it’s important to take good care of our pet dogs. This includes providing them with proper food, shelter, exercise, and regular veterinary care. In this article, we will provide you essay on my dog.

500 Word Essay on My Pet Dog

From the moment I first laid eyes on that bundle of golden fur, I knew we were meant to be best friends for life. Cody, my golden retriever, has been an unconditional source of love, loyalty, and laughter for over a decade now. He is truly one of the greatest companions I could ever ask for. Cody came into my life as an 8-week-old puppy, with the most adorable teddy bear face and warm, curious eyes that could melt your heart. But don’t let that sweet look fool you – he was a rambunctious ball of energy from day one. My family and I spent months patiently potty training him, teaching him obedience commands, and redirecting his friendly puppy nipping. It was challenging but rewarding work.

As Cody grew into an adult dog, his true golden retriever personality blossomed. He is the gentlest, most affectionate creature, always eager to shower us with wet kisses and snuggle up for belly rubs at a moment’s notice. With his eternally wagging tail and bright, inviting expression, Cody makes an immediate connection with anyone he meets. One of the things I love most about golden retrievers is their eager-to-please demeanor and high intelligence. Cody lives to make his human family happy. He studies our faces and actions intently, following commands and picking up on our routines with ease. We’ve been able to train him to do all sorts of tricks and tasks – from fetching objects to cleaning up his toys to even pulling off the perfect “play dead.”

At the same time, Cody has a wonderful goofy, playful side that keeps us laughing every day. He gets intense and bouncy when he wants to play tug-of-war or fetch. He makes us chuckle by tilting his head inquisitively at new noises. And sometimes he just does silly things like drooling while he sleeps or getting the classic “zoomies” for no reason. Having a dog like Cody has been an amazing source of joy but also an incredible lesson in unconditional love, patience, responsibility, and living for each moment. Dogs don’t dwell on the past or future – they are fully present. Cody takes the good and bad of each day in stride. Even if I’m frustrated after a long workday, Cody is always ecstatic to greet me with a wagging tail when I walk through the door, his only care being that I’m home.

Cody’s deep loyalty and steadfast companionship has helped me through some tough times in life. He has an incredible intuition for emotions and always seems to know when I need an extra cuddle or kiss on a difficult day. No matter what, I know Cody’s unconditional love for me will never waver. That’s something special that every dog owner understands about the beautiful human-animal bond. After over a decade together, Cody is now an elderly dog with graying fur. But his warm, loving spirit and puppy-like zest for life remain as strong as ever. He reminds me daily to embrace each new experience with that same innocence, loyalty and joy. Cody is more than just a pet – he is a true friend for life. I feel so blessed to be able to share my life with such an amazing, loving animal.

800 Word Essay on My Pet Dog

I was walking home from class, huddled against the crisp wind, when I noticed a scruffy little dog sitting all alone under a streetlamp. His big brown eyes were wide with caution yet brimming with hope as our gazes locked. In that moment, I knew he needed me as much as I needed him. I cautiously approached, offering a few soothing words and holding out a hand to sniff. Rather than cowering or running away as I expected, the pup seemed to appraise me with wisdom beyond his years. After a moment’s pause, he tentatively nudged my hand with his cold, wet nose. My heart melted as I scooped him up into my jacket, feeling his warmth pressed against me. So began my journey with Tommy, the most remarkable indie pup I’ve ever known.

From the start, Tommy proved to be incredibly smart, obedient, and adaptable despite his life on the streets. Within a couple weeks, he had adjusted seamlessly to living indoors, grasping potty training and basic commands. But he was much more than an ordinary pup. Tommy always seemed to sense my shifting emotions, responding with the perfect mixture of playfulness, affection, and calm presence as each situation required.

His emotional intelligence allowed us to form a profound, unbreakable bond. Tommy became my shadow, greeting me with excited tail-wags and sloppy kisses whenever I walked through the door after class or work. He loved to snuggle up on my lap as I studied, seemingly content to just soak up my company and affection. During stressful periods, Tommy’s warm, grounding presence and deep brown eyes could instantly subdue my anxiety and remind me of what really mattered most. Despite being on his own at such a young age, Tommy never developed behavioral issues like excessive barking, aggression, or separation anxiety that many strays struggle with. Instead, he showered everyone he met with endless puppy energy and enthusiasm, his whole body seeming to vibrate with wriggling excitement when offered a pat or a treat. Even kids, strangers, and other pets were instantly accepted as friends in Tommy’s eyes.

As an indie mix, Tommy’s exact breed makeup was anyone’s guess. His scruffy tan and white coat gave him a coyote-like appearance. His tall, pointed ears and muscular build hinted at some terrier ancestry. But most striking were his wildly mismatched eyes – one a warm brown, the other an icy blue-gray. Whatever his origins, Tommy was simply one-of-a-kind. He loved to chase squirrels and birds into the brush, requiring me to wrestle him out of dense bushes or scale trees to retrieve my muddy, leaf-covered pup. He also had a bad habit of counter-surfing to swipe any tempting human food left unattended. More than once, I returned home to find him proudly licking his chops surrounded by a mess of scattered wrappers and crumbs.

But his best trick was his fearless composure around larger animals. Despite his small stature, Tommy never hesitated to strike up play with bigger dogs at the park or boldly approach horses. He seemed to lack any sense of self-preservation or awareness of his diminutive size. I’ll never forget the image of Tommy emphatically barking up at an enormous, bewildered draft horse while I chased him in mortified embarrassment.

As the years passed, Tommy transformed from a pup into a more dignified, albeit slightly mischievous adult dog. His protectiveness over me became more pronounced as his youthful enthusiasm mellowed slightly with age. Tommy appointed himself as a watchdog of sorts, keeping a keen eye on anyone who came by the house. Yet he never lost his loving, gentle demeanor with people and furry friends. Now Tommy has been by my side for nearly a decade, his face graying around the muzzle. With each passing year, I’m reminded how lucky I was to cross paths with this spunky, loving canine on that fateful autumn night. Tommy filled a void in my life that I never knew needed filling until he arrived.

From his endless affection and patience to his silly antics and misbehavior, Tommy has brought me more laughter, companionship, and joy than I ever could have imagined. Gazing into those mismatched but warm, trusting eyes, I know our paths were truly destined to cross that night under the streetlamp. Tommy will forever be one of the greatest gifts the universe has blessed me with – my furry little soul mate in a scruffy tan and white coat.

Essay on My Pet Dog- FAQs

What’s the best breed for a family pet dog.

The best breed depends on your family’s lifestyle and preferences. However, some breeds known for their gentle and friendly nature include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and Bulldogs.

How much exercise does a pet dog need?

Dogs require daily exercise to stay healthy and happy. The amount of exercise needed varies depending on the breed, age, and size of the dog. Generally, dogs should have at least 30 minutes to an hour of physical activity each day, which can include walks, playtime, and mental stimulation.

What should I feed my pet dog?

A balanced diet is essential for your dog’s health. High-quality commercial dog food that is appropriate for your dog’s age, size, and activity level is usually recommended. You can also include fresh fruits and vegetables as treats or supplements, but be cautious about feeding them human foods that may be harmful to dogs.

How do I house train my pet dog?

Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key to house training your dog. Establish a routine for feeding, potty breaks, and crate training. Supervise your dog closely indoors and take them outside frequently, especially after meals and naps. Reward your dog with praise and treats when they eliminate outdoors.

How can I prevent behavioral problems in my pet dog?

Proper socialization, training, and providing mental and physical stimulation can help prevent behavioral issues in dogs. Enroll your dog in obedience classes, provide plenty of toys and activities to keep them engaged, and ensure they receive enough exercise and attention.

How do I keep my pet dog healthy?

Regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive care are essential for maintaining your dog’s health. Practice good hygiene by grooming your dog regularly, keeping their ears clean, and brushing their teeth. Watch for any signs of illness or discomfort and address them promptly.

What’s the best way to introduce a new pet dog to my home?

Slow and supervised introductions are key when bringing a new dog into your home, especially if you already have other pets. Allow them to sniff and interact with each other in a controlled environment, and provide separate spaces for each pet initially. Be patient and give them time to adjust to each other’s presence.

500 Words Essay on My Favourite Pet

Pets are an integral part of human life, offering companionship and unconditional love. Among various pets, my favourite is the dog, specifically, the Golden Retriever. This essay delves into my relationship with my pet, Max, and the reasons behind my preference.

The Appeal of Golden Retrievers

Golden Retrievers are known for their friendly and tolerant attitudes. They are great family pets, exhibiting an exuberant and devoted nature. Their intelligence makes them a favourite choice for roles involving search and rescue, guiding, and even acting. What sets Max apart is his radiant personality, which is a characteristic trait of his breed.

Max, My Companion

Max is not just a pet; he is a family member. His playful antics and warm cuddles have a therapeutic effect, reducing stress and anxiety. His loyalty is unwavering; whether it’s a cheerful greeting at the door or a comforting presence during tough times, Max’s companionship is constant. This bond is not one-sided; caring for Max has taught me responsibility, compassion, and the importance of non-verbal communication.

The Intellectual Stimulation

One might wonder how a pet could stimulate intellectual growth. Training Max, understanding his behaviour, and learning about his breed’s specific needs have broadened my knowledge and honed my problem-solving skills. Dogs, like humans, have a complex set of emotions and behaviours. Decoding these requires patience, observation, and understanding, thereby promoting cognitive development.

Physical and Emotional Health Benefits

Having Max as a pet has significantly contributed to my physical and emotional health. Regular walks and playtime with him ensure a certain level of physical activity, promoting fitness. On the emotional front, his unconditional love provides a sense of belonging and emotional security. Studies have shown that the mere act of petting a dog can lower blood pressure and heart rate, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Social Benefits

Apart from personal benefits, having Max has social implications as well. Dogs are known as ‘social catalysts’ that facilitate human interactions. Walks in the park or visits to the vet often lead to conversations with fellow pet owners, fostering a sense of community. Additionally, Max’s friendly nature makes him a favourite among friends and neighbours, enhancing social relationships.

In conclusion, my favourite pet, Max, is more than just an animal living in my house. He is a companion, a stress-buster, a responsibility, and a source of joy and learning. His presence has enriched my life in numerous ways, and the bond we share is beyond words. The Golden Retriever’s friendly, intelligent, and loyal nature makes it an ideal pet, and my experience with Max only reinforces this belief. Pets, indeed, make our lives whole.

Essay on My Favorite Pet

My Favorite Pet

My favorite pet is different from that of my friends. On my seventh birthday, my father bought me a little goldfish. We kept it in a glass bowl on my table. Since then it has been my best friend.

I call my fish Goldie. It is very beautiful. It has a golden tail and lovely fins. Its big black eyes are a treat to look at. It swims in the bowl like a mermaid.

I share all my secrets with my goldfish. I make sure that I feed it on time.

When I go to school, my mother looks after it. I miss it a lot when I am not at home. All my friends love it too. I wish I could play with it more often and take it along with me wherever I go. But I cannot take it out of the water.

My father has promised to buy a big aquarium for Goldie, as it has grown too big for its small bowl.

I hope Goldie will be happy in its new home. I also want to get some more friends for it, so that it does not feel lonely when I am not at home.

Best budget: Hunger for Words Talking Pet Starter Set

Pros: Includes four easy-to-press buttons, comes with activity guide, easy to record sounds

Cons: Mat and batteries not included

The best dog talking buttons don't have to cost a lot. The affordable Hunger for Words Talking Pet Starter Set was developed by Christina Hunger, the speech pathologist whose Blue Heeler-Catahoula mix Stella went viral after learning to communicate using dog buttons. It comes with four different colored buttons that are easy for dogs to press. You can record simple phrases like "outside" or "food" and use the included step-by-step teaching guide to introduce them to your dog. The recordings are clear and easy to hear. During testing, the buttons were simple to set up and record words, which was a nice bonus.

Hunger For Words makes add-on sets and a button mat for teaching more advanced communication. How quickly your dog learns depends on a variety of factors, says Sara Scott , a professional dog trainer. "A dog with a long history of training may pick it up really quickly, but a dog who is green might take considerably longer," she says. "It also depends on how efficient you are as a trainer and how much work you're putting in."

Best customizable: Talking Products Talking Tiles

Pros: Fully customizable, can record sound using a computer or smartphone, includes six buttons in different colors

Cons:  Pricey, mat and batteries not included, must turn buttons on and off for use

According to Scott, you can either teach your dog new words one at a time or simultaneously work on a few words with different meanings. Talking Products Talking Tiles consists of six different-colored buttons that you can customize with audio messages and images.

Each 4-inch-wide hexagonal button can record sound using a built-in microphone or a smartphone or computer using the audio-input jack. You can further customize each button by adding a picture or symbol underneath the removable transparent cover. Each button runs on three AAA batteries, which must be purchased separately. A downside of these buttons is that they need to be powered on and off individually using a switch on the bottom. This may be tedious for frequent users.

<h3>Do dog buttons work?</h3><p>Yes. A dog can learn to communicate using buttons programmed with words.</p><h3>Can dogs talk using buttons?</h3><p>Yes, sort of. A dog can learn how to communicate using programmable buttons but their ability to "talk" is not the same as ours, Pathasarathy told Insider Reviews. "It is unlikely that dogs understand human language in the same way that we understand human language," she said. "Dogs learn that certain words are associated with certain activities, situations or items."</p><h3>How many words can a dog learn? </h3><p>Current research suggests that the average dog can learn around 89 words.</p><h3>Can cats learn to use dog buttons?</h3><p>Yes, though no formal research has been done on the topic. "Cats are as good at making associations as dogs so it stands to reason that they can also learn to use the buttons and associate them with certain situations or activities," explained Parthasarathy.</p><h3>Do dogs need buttons to learn words?</h3><p>No. If you've trained your dog to sit, come, or stay, you've already taught them to recognize human language. "Dogs also learn words and phrases that are associated with certain outcomes such as [when] 'do you want to go out' equals being let outside or 'dinnertime' means food will be put in the bowl," said Parthasarathy.</p>

Dog buttons FAQs

Do dog buttons work.

Yes. You can teach your dog to communicate using buttons programmed with words. But your pup isn't the only one who may be able to communicate with buttons. "Cats are as good at making associations as dogs, so it stands to reason that they can also learn to use the buttons and associate them with certain situations or activities," says Parthasarathy. For example, a cat may be able to communicate with you when they want to play with the best cat toys .

Do dogs need buttons to learn words?

No. If you've trained your dog to sit, come, or stay, you've already taught them to recognize human language. "Dogs also learn words and phrases that are associated with certain outcomes such as [when] 'do you want to go out' equals being let outside or 'dinnertime' means food will be put in the bowl," says Parthasarathy.

How do I teach my dog to talk using buttons?

First, Scott says your dog must learn to push the button with their paw or nose. Begin by recording a word like "treat" on a button. Press the button to make the word sound, then immediately reward your dog. Repeat this 10 to 20 times so your dog associates pressing the button with getting one of the best dog training treats , then wait in front of the button for your dog to begin exploring it.

If your dog moves toward the button, quickly press it yourself and reward them with a treat even if they don't manage to activate it. Eventually, they'll hit the button on their own. Each time they do, immediately reward them with a treat. When you're not training, put the button away so your dog doesn't become frustrated when pushing it doesn't result in a treat.

Once your dog understands the concept of pushing the button, you can start pairing it with objects and actions common to their everyday life. "Some of the easiest behaviors to teach first would be patterns of routines you already have set in your life," says Scott. Some good words to start with include "outside," "food," and "play."

Both repetition and reinforcement are essential to your dog learning a new word. If you want to teach the word "outside," for example, record the word on a button and place it by the door. Ask your dog to press the button, then immediately open the door to let them out. If your dog loves to go out, the action acts as positive reinforcement. If it's not an activity they love, offer them a treat after they've gone through the door. Repeat the sequence every time you let your dog out. In time, they will understand that pushing the button opens the door and begin to do it on their own.

While it's much harder for dogs to learn more abstract concepts like emotions, dog buttons can be used to address some problem behaviors, according to Scott and Parthasarathy. "Using these buttons can potentially be helpful in cases where a dog uses an undesired behavior such as barking at their guardian to obtain something they want," says Parthasarathy. The button doesn't have to be pressed by the dog in order to be useful. A shy dog who's startled by sudden movement might appreciate a warning that you are about to stand up from your desk. Pressing a button that says something like "up" before you stand lets them know what's about to happen.

The Chom Chom Roller is reusable, works well, and is large enough for a variety of surfaces but small enough for easy portability.

  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. May be a little large for some clothing items
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Must empty the roller after each use

The effectiveness and versatility of the Chom Chom Roller make it one of the best pet hair removers you can buy, and it's a great alternative to single-use lint rollers. For one thing, it really works. It did a great job pulling up cat and dog hair on every surface we tested, and we didn't need to spend a ton of time or elbow grease working it.

To operate the tool, you run it back and forth across the surface and hair collects inside the roller. You need to empty it after each use, but this is easy to do. We tested it on knit socks and leggings after other pet hair removers failed and found that the Chom Chom Roller did a better job removing hair. Although it's no substitute for a vacuum cleaner due to its small size, we also tried it on furniture and rugs. The rugs looked like they had just been vacuumed when we finished.

A true test of the Chom Chom Roller was the Halloween hat pictured here. After pets napped and chewed on it, it became pretty much unusable as a costume, but the roller got the hair out when nothing else did.

The Gonzo Natural Magic Pet Hair Lifter is a sponge that gently and effectively gathers pet hair from clothing and other surfaces.

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Great for clothing
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Affordable
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Very portable
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Noticeable latex odor
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Doesn’t collect hair
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Not great for loosely woven clothing

The Gonzo Natural Magic Pet Hair Lifter works by gently collecting pet hair from clothing and other fabrics. Like the name suggests, it only lifts hair. It doesn't collect it, so you need to gather the hair as you go to keep it from spreading back across the garment or furniture. We alternated between pulling the hair clump off with our hands or using a lint roller to grab it up.

This tool is easy to grip and use, and it effectively lifts hair from different types of clothing, including tights, sweaters, and jeans. However, we don't recommend it for loosely knit garments. It loosened the knit on one of the openwork sweaters we tested. We also tested it on dog beds. Among all the products we evaluated, this was the only one that could effectively lift hair (along with bark, grass, and dirt) from a dog bed made of shaggy fabric.

The Gonzo Natural Magic Pet Hair Lifter is made of all-natural latex rubber and feels like a slightly sticky, rough sponge. It also has a slight odor. You use it dry, but you can wash it as needed, though it may take a day or two to dry completely. This pet hair remover should last a long time, too. We used it regularly over a few weeks and didn't notice it breaking down at all.

The Lilly Brush Pro Pet Hair Tool Kit is a two-in-one pet hair removal tool that quickly and effectively scrapes pet hair off furniture and car seats.

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Comfortable to hold and use
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Works on many surfaces
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Very durable
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. A little pricier than other pet hair removers
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Doesn’t work as well for clothing

The product packaging recommends the Lilly Brush Pro Pet Hair Tool Kit for use in cars, and it definitely removes pet hair from car seats and floor mats. But we consider this tool one of the best pet hair removers because it also does a great job removing pet hair from furniture and carpeted surfaces like cat trees.

It did a great job removing hard-to-see fur from the sofa, and the long-handled crevice tool does an excellent job cleaning corners and tricky surfaces, like narrow spaces between chair cushions and car seats. On a carpeted cat tree, it pulled up several months' worth of embedded cat hair with several good scrapes — and it only took about 20 minutes to thoroughly clean the tree's three levels.

This tool didn't work as well on clothing, in part because of its broader shape, but it's not totally ineffective, either. We love the stretchy band that keeps the tool firmly in your hand as you use it. The Lilly Brush Pro Pet Hair Tool Kit costs more than nearly all of the other tools we tested, but it's effective, durable, and well-made, so we think it's worth the price.

The Neater Pets Fur Dozer Pet Hair Remover is a sturdy, portable tool that can pull embedded pet hair from even thick and shaggy carpets.

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Comfortable grip for different hand sizes
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Sturdy and made to last
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Easy to use
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Less effective on non-carpeted surfaces

The Neater Pets Fur Dozer Pet Hair Remover isn't the best option for pulling pet hair from clothing, but it really shines on carpet. We tried it on different types of carpet, furniture, and dog beds and found that it works best when it gets some resistance from the material, so it's a good option for rugged fabrics, like the dog bed pictured, and higher pile carpeting.

This sturdy tool is made to last, and its small size means you can store it pretty much anywhere, including your bag or car. But even though the Fur Dozer is small, it's wide enough to quickly cover even larger surfaces, like area rugs.

We liked how it's comfortable to hold or use with either hand, which means you can switch off hands for longer cleaning jobs. The quiet operation was another plus. Some pet hair removers make scratching or scraping sounds that can bother some sensitive or anxious dogs, but the Fur Dozer worked quietly enough that our pets didn't mind sticking around during testing.

Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls help remove pet hair from laundry, including bedding, towels, and clothing.

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Wool from humanely raised sheep
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Reusable
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Fragrance-free
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Good for sensitive skin
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Less effective over time
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Doesn’t reduce static cling
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Makes thumping noise in dryer

If you wash a lot of fur-covered garments, blankets, and pet towels, the Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls can help your laundry come out of the dryer hair-free — and all you have to do is toss them in the dryer with the wet clothes. We loved how well they worked and cut down on drying time. A trip through the dryer with one of these balls got most of the cat hair off the curtain pictured, which is a favorite space for cat naps.

The Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls are easy to use, contain only wool, and don't have any fragrance. While they don't last forever, they do last a long time. The package directions say they'll still work once they begin pilling, but they removed a little less hair after drying more than 15 loads, especially loads of hairy items like dog blankets.

Unlike dryer sheets, the balls don't do much to reduce static cling, but they're one of the best pet hair removers you can find for laundry. Plus, not only are they more effective than the dryer sheets we tested, they're better for your clothing and the environment. Just make sure to store them out of reach of your dog, since they can easily grab and shred any stray dryer balls that escape your laundry basket. (This happened during our trials!)

The Analan Mini Pet Hair Detailer is a small but powerful pet hair remover that quickly pulls pet hair from car seats, car floors, furniture, and clothing.

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Durable
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Can use on multiple surfaces
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Works fast
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. May be harder to hold in larger hands
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Not ideal for large areas

The Analan Mini Pet Hair Detailer is a small tool that works best for removing pet hair from car seats and floor mats. The triangular tool has teeth running along its edges — three different sides with different tooth sizes. Starting with Side 1, which has the largest teeth, you work the tool over the cleaning area, using all of the sides to remove the hair.

We loved how well it worked in the car and on furniture. In fact, we found that most of the hair came up when we used the first side. We tried this on car seats and floor mats, dog beds, clothing, and household furniture. It works best on carpeted or upholstered surfaces, like rugs and car seats, but it does an OK job removing pet hair from clothes, too. It's less effective on very shaggy fabrics, however.

This tool's small size makes it very portable, too — you can easily stash it in a bag or car glovebox. The small size may be a drawback if you have larger hands, since you may find the tool harder to hold or manipulate. The size also makes it less ideal for very large surfaces, like floors or area rugs.

The Scotch-Brite Pet Hair Pickup has extra-sticky sheets designed to pick up pet hair and other dirt and debris from your clothing and furniture.

If you prefer a standard roller, the Scotch-Brite Pet Hair Pickup is a good option. It has super sticky sheets specially designed to pull pet hair from clothing and furniture. It worked on everything we tested, including a sweater that defeated some of the other best pet hair removers, and does a better job removing pet hair than many other sticky rollers.

However, it's not perfect. The sheets spin loosely on the roller, making the tool less effective unless you grip it firmly and press down hard. This also makes it more difficult to tear off the sheets. We found that the roller would spin too far when we tried to tear off the used sheet, and the clean sheets would end up sticking together.

This is a great choice for quick pet hair removal, especially if you want something to keep in your car or bag. However, we don't recommend it for large areas or deeply embedded pet hair.

What to look for in a pet hair remover

The things you'll want to consider when shopping for the best pet hair removers will generally depend on what you want to use the tool for. A few things to keep in mind include:

Recommended surfaces: Not all pet hair removers work the same way, and some do a better job on some surfaces than others. If you mostly need to remove pet hair from clothing, you may want a smaller tool, like a roller or sponge, that's designed for delicate fabrics. You may find a different tool works better for larger, carpeted surfaces, like your rug or sofa.

Shape and size: If you know you'll use the pet hair remover often, you'll want to make sure you can hold it comfortably and use it easily. People with very small or very large hands may find certain tools harder to grip and use over a longer period. The shape of a tool can also affect how well it works for different surfaces and situations. For example, the Chom Chom Roller has a larger size that makes it a little awkward to use on clothing you're already wearing.

Operation: Before purchasing a pet hair remover, read the directions and product reviews. This information can give you a better idea of how the tool works and whether people found it easy to use as directed. Most pet hair removers are fairly easy to use, but some may require more steps or cleaning than others.

Price: When shopping for pet hair removers, you'll find plenty of options for different budgets. The prices of our top picks range from $5 to $33. While $30 may seem like a lot to spend upfront, a more expensive reusable tool may be worth the expense, especially if you go through single-use lint rollers quickly.

How we tested the best pet hair removers

To find the best pet hair removers for all of your needs, we tested 13 tools across seven different categories. We scored each product in the following categories.

Effectiveness: We tested how well each tool worked when used for its intended purpose according to the product directions. We also checked how well the tool worked on additional surfaces not listed in the directions.

To test effectiveness, we used each pet hair remover for both dog and cat hair on the following surfaces:

  • Clothing and bedding in several different fabrics, including T-shirts, jeans, sweatshirts, tights, sweaters, jackets, sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers
  • Furniture, including sofas, chairs, and cat trees
  • Flooring, including high and low pile carpet, area rugs, tile, and concrete
  • Dog beds, including plush, shaggy, and carpeted beds
  • Car floor mats and seats, though only some removers were tested on leather seats

We tested the effectiveness of pet hair removers designed for laundry by adding dryer sheets or dryer balls to wet clothes in the dryer.

We used sticky single-use rollers on all of the testing surfaces listed above.

Ease of use: For each product, we evaluated the ease of operation, effort required to pick up pet hair, and effort required to clean the tool after use.

Durability: To test durability, we used each pet hair remover daily on a few different surfaces over a period of two weeks. We used the dryer sheets and dryer balls in 15 loads of laundry containing a variety of fabrics.

Size: We evaluated whether anyone could comfortably use these tools or if they worked better for people with larger or smaller hands. We also considered whether the tool needed a very tight grip to work as intended. To check this, we had people with different hand sizes hold each tool and try using it.

Price: We checked prices for similar products to determine whether each tool had a comparable price.

Other functions: We tested other advertised functions of the product, like picking up leaf debris and dirt or reducing static cling.

Portability and storage: We considered whether these pet hair removers were easy to take on the go or store at home, depending on their intended purpose.

Pet hair remover FAQs

What is the most effective pet hair remover.

You'll find plenty of different options when shopping for the best pet hair removers, and there's no single most effective fur remover for all situations. The best tool for your needs can depend on the surface you want to use it on, how much hair you want to remove, and how often you need to use the tool. Our best overall pick, the Chom Chom Roller, was the most effective pet hair remover for the most surfaces and types of pet hair.

What picks up dog hair the best?

Many pet hair removers work well to pick up dog hair, including all of our top picks. You may need to try a few different tools to find the one that works best for your dog's fur. We particularly liked the Gonzo Natural Pet Hair Remover and the Fur Dozer for picking up dog hair embedded in furniture and carpet. However, some dog fur may prove extra resistant. If you don't get the results you want from a handheld pet hair remover, you may want to consider investing in one of the best vacuums for pet hair .

How do I keep pet hair off my furniture?

If you have pets, you probably won't be able to keep their fur off your furniture completely, but you can use a pet hair remover to pick up any hair your pet leaves behind. Brushing your pets regularly can also help reduce the amount of hair they shed on your furniture. Furniture covers will also protect your furniture from excess pet hair.

‘Oppenheimer,’ My Uncle and the Secrets America Still Doesn’t Like to Tell

An illustration, rendered in soft yellows and oranges, of a group of spectators facing a bright light that casts long shadows behind them.

By Ariel Kaminer

Ms. Kaminer is an editor at Times Opinion.

The darkened sky stretches over miles of desert sand as in the distance, from an illuminated scaffold, the object rises that will change the world. The first atomic test is the defining scene in “Oppenheimer,” which won seven Academy Awards on Sunday night, including best picture. The scene plays out over seven or so minutes of steadily escalating tension: No one knew whether the bomb would go off at all that night and, if it did, whether it would incinerate the whole world.

Watching the film on opening weekend, I found the scene excruciating, even though history had long since recorded the outcome. I just kept staring at the Los Alamos scientists who gathered to witness the big event, lying under the stars as though taking in an outdoor movie, with nothing more to protect them than a small eye shade. The physicist Edward Teller is the only one who seems to recognize the need for any precautions, and he addresses it by applying sunscreen.

“Oppenheimer” is a movie about a singular genius, an extraordinary collaboration and a turning point in history. But it’s also a lesson in applied physics: the way a lone catalyst may trigger a chain reaction whose impact cannot be predicted or controlled. J. Robert Oppenheimer’s greatest triumph set into motion forces that brought about his downfall. An innovation designed to make the world safer in the long term made it manifestly more dangerous . And in subsequent atomic tests through the postwar years, many Americans were deliberately exposed to radiation, to see what the blast and its aftermath would do to them.

Soldiers were marched through detonation sites when the sand cooled down enough to walk on; pilots were sent through the still-billowing clouds; sailors were lined up on nearby boats. At the Yucca Flat testing grounds in Nevada, an Army band was even summoned to play. I know that last part because my uncle Richard Gigger was the band’s leader.

Richard enlisted in 1946. He was a 16-year-old Black kid in a still-segregated Army, but it got him from East St. Louis to Germany. While there, he got permission to attend a music training program in Dachau, of all places, led by members of the Berlin Philharmonic. It changed his life. Over the next decades he performed for heads of state, led ticker-tape parades through Manhattan and made numerous appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

On multiple occasions between 1952 and 1955, his responsibilities also included playing “Shake, Rattle and Roll” to accompany the most destructive force in human history.

Other atomic veterans , as they have come to be known, were in the South Pacific, wading through radioactive water while filling in blast craters. You can hear former service members speak about a range of these experiences — with pride, honor and a deep sense of betrayal — in a documentary called “ I Have Seen the Dragon .” Richard’s in it, too.

After 25 years spanning three wars, he retired from the Army and met my aunt Ellen. Together they started teaching music at San Fernando High School, where they led the marching band to so many championships — 13 in all, 11 of them consecutively — that it almost wasn’t fair. Along the way they mentored hundreds or maybe thousands of kids, many of whom still credit them with changing their lives. A school building and an intersection were renamed in tribute. There’s a huge mural , too. But eventually Richard’s military service caught up with him, as it did for so many others.

For Richard it started with a pituitary tumor. Surgeons removed it, but the result, a few years later, was a cranial bleed and brain damage that worsened over time.

As a kid I found my uncle kind but intimidating, a larger-than-life mix of showman’s bravado and military rigor. After the bleed, all that was gone. He moved slowly and said little. He could still play musical instruments, but in the documentary, it’s my aunt who speaks. Richard sits, silent. He died three months later.

For five decades, atomic veterans were forbidden to tell anyone about their experience, not even a spouse or doctor. That has made it hard to get a reliable accounting of their numbers, or of the medical consequences they suffered, which include leukemia, thyroid cancer, esophagus cancer and multiple myeloma. It has also made it hard for them or their family members to get needed support. To prove her case to the Department of Veterans Affairs, my aunt spent long hours in the library reading scientific articles about atmospheric ionizing radiation (many of which she first had to get translated from Japanese), went digging through the archives of old Nevada newspapers, consulted doctors. She was rebuffed many times but finally, after seven years, the V.A. relented. It confirmed that Richard’s condition was most likely caused by his exposure. That qualified her to receive modest compensation.

A number of conditions are now “ presumptive ” for atomic vets, meaning that they’re assumed to be a result of their service. But there’s no way to know how many people suffered or died before that policy was adopted or how many other conditions may also be the result of exposure — nor how many families couldn’t undertake the kind of research my aunt did or persevere through so many setbacks. The veterans’ numbers are dwindling, but these questions remain urgent, since the effects of radiation can be passed on to children and grandchildren.

“Oppenheimer” has been criticized for not showing the devastation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I think it was the right choice. It would have been offensive, maybe even obscene, to reduce that suffering to a subplot of a great-man biopic, a movie that, however deeply based in fact , is ultimately an entertainment, a fiction. Leaving Japan’s horror to the imagination, or to the intrusive thoughts you can see Oppenheimer struggling to shut out, felt to me like appropriate humility about the limits of representation, as when the film goes all but silent when the blast first registers.

As for the bomb’s effect on American bodies, the sight of those unprotected scientists is the closest the film comes. The scene plays like a metaphor for how naïvely optimistic the nuclear program was, how unprepared the nation, or even the world, was for the terrors it would unleash. After the test, when the Army guys crate up the remaining bombs and drive them away, Oppenheimer tells Teller, “Once it’s used, nuclear war, perhaps all war, becomes unthinkable.” Equally unthinkable, I suspect, would have been the idea that the United States would intentionally inflict some of the bomb’s harmful effects on its own service members.

If “Oppenheimer” were a more traditional film, Japan’s surrender might have been the climax. But the movie continues for another hour, turning its attention to Oppenheimer’s struggle to retain his security clearance, a fight that plays out in parallel with a Washington insider’s struggle to secure a cabinet post. It’s possible to leave the theater with the impression that, in the United States at least, the main victim of the bomb was Oppenheimer’s career.

For my uncle, the fallout came later. For some other atomic vets or their families — or for people living near test sites such as those in Nevada and the Marshall Islands and of course for people in Japan — it may yet be in the future. The film honored at the Oscars told a very specific story, but countless other lives trace back to that day, too. In one way or another, no one emerged untouched. We are all living downwind of that first momentous blast.
