A broad topic like good habits for an essay can be complicated for young students to understand, and that’s why kids need a lot of practice and exposure to language to learn how to write well. If you’re also unsure how to write an essay on good habits for children, consider a few points.

  • Everything you write should back up the central point.
  • Write a sentence that sums up what you want to say. Lastly, use facts and examples to back up your point.
  • There should be an introduction, the body (one to three paragraphs), and the end. Each paragraph should have about three to four sentences, which can change depending on your writing.
  • Start your essay by saying what the main point is, and at the end of your essay, you should restate your main point.

Good habits are essential for having good education and behaviour. It is the foundation for the growth of everyone. We need time and determination to develop good practice. We need to be disciplined as it’s difficult to leave bad habits behind. Having good manners is a stepping stone. We need to practice all positive values such as hard work, punctuality, honesty and more until it becomes a routine. Everyone loves and looks up to someone with good habits. If we have clean habits, maintain good hygiene, appear well-groomed and remain tidy, people will find us attractive and will want to be our friends. Right from children to elders, we all should have good habits to be better people.

Good habits have a great impact on a person’s lifestyle and progress in their work. Writing an essay on good habits will allow kids to know more about this crucial asset of life and they will feel encouraged to embrace some good habits in their disposition. Here is a template for your reference:

Healthy living needs a healthy body as it is the base of progress and happiness. For our body and mind to stay healthy, we must follow some good habits. We can have a healthy lifestyle by taking essential steps as follows.

Structured Timetable

Keeping a good schedule every day is very important. We should try to eat three to four healthy meals a day, drink a lot of water, and maintain a fitness routine like walking, jogging, or running. This regime keeps the body healthy and balanced, which is the key to keeping the mind healthy.

Sincerity And Honesty

Being honest is an essential good habit because it shapes our overall disposition. We can show honesty in many ways, such as by telling the truth, admitting mistakes, recognising and fixing errors, not slandering other people, and analysing and improving ourselves.

To succeed in all aspects of life in today’s world, we must be honest and work hard. The goal should be to do the best work that benefits us and the people we are with. Work ethic and honesty are the best traits to develop for school or a job.

Punctuality

Being on time is one of the best habits to succeed in life and is an essential aspect of life. Being on time gives us confidence because it creates a good impression and shows how interested and honest we are in our work.

Whether old or young, we need to learn to value other people. What we offer always comes back to us. People will respect us if we treat them with respect. We should always be respectful enough to say “thank you” and “I’m sorry” when appropriate.

Cleanliness

We need to keep our surroundings clean. We need to make sure that our habits are good for the environment, and don’t cause any damage to it. Small acts like not littering, reducing the use of plastic and using dustbins will help us keep our environment clean. We need to maintain the same habit of keeping everything neat and tidy at home. When things go wrong, it’s hard to find anything if the place is messy.

Sharing is one of the most important values that helps us show love and care towards others. It develops the feeling of compassion, empathy, and togetherness.

Here are some reasons why good habita are important:

  • To help you reach your goals and dreams.
  • To make lifelong friends.
  • Family, friends, and people, in general, will respect you more.
  • Having good habits makes your life better.
  • You will achieve more success.
  • People will be willing to help you when you need it.

These good habits will help you succees in life:

  • Wake up, and go to bed early
  • Always be kind and polite to other people
  • Respect your friends, teachers, and elders
  • Have fun with good people
  • Read and learn all the time
  • Have a plan to study

Writing a composition on good habits will teach your youngster to organise their thoughts. In this way, they will learn how to structure their thoughts and ideas into the paragraphs that make up the body of their essay. They will feel motivated to absorb some good habits in their routine too.

Good habits take time to form and need discipline. Children need to learn good habits from an early age. We can live a healthy life if we keep up with good habits.

40 Good Habits for Students to Practise Every Day

Updated on June 6, 2023 By Daniel Wong 55 Comments

Students

Why are some students more successful than others?

While there are many possible reasons, it often comes down to one thing…

They know the good habits for students they ought to practise.

Students with good habits achieve the most success. These habits give them the structure they need to reach their goals.

So I’ve created a list of 40 good habits for students to practise every day.

As you develop these habits, you’ll become a happier, healthier and more successful student.

Enter your email below to download a PDF summary of this article. The PDF contains all the tips found here, plus  5 exclusive bonus tips that you’ll only find in the PDF.

Here are the best habits for students.

Good habits for students are ones that will serve you well in all areas of your life, not just in school.

The following list includes habits to improve your physical health, motivation, self-discipline, and more.

1. Write down the three to five most important tasks to accomplish for the day.

Without a written list to help you stay on track, it’s easy to overlook and put off important tasks.

By writing down your three to five most important tasks for the day, you’ll focus on the critical tasks, not just the urgent ones.

If you want to study smart and become more productive , start cultivating this habit today.

2. Update your calendar with key dates and events.

A calendar is a great way to stay on schedule, day after day, while also planning for the future.

Using a calendar for things related to school is one of the most important habits for students to stay organised.

You can use a physical calendar or an online one like Google Calendar to record test dates, project submission deadlines, term breaks, etc.

This way, you’ll be on top of things at all times.

3. Work on your most challenging task during your most productive time of day.

Tackle your most challenging task when your mind and body are fresh.

This will ensure that you have the energy to complete the task most efficiently. It’ll make the rest of your day more productive too!

4. Write down at least one thing you’re thankful for.

Are you thankful for your friends? How about your family? What about your education?

Gratitude is a good habit for students to practise daily. It only takes a couple of minutes to write down something you’re thankful for .

But this useful habit will help you find long-term success and happiness.

5. Perform focused deep breathing for two minutes.

Stress can negatively impact academic performance, but there’s a quick solution to this.

Deep breathing is scientifically proven to reduce stress and even increase willpower.

So take just two minutes and perform focused deep breathing every day.

I recommend that you do these deep breathing exercises right before tests and exams to relieve stress as well.

6. Read your favourite inspirational quote.

For a quick boost of motivation to study , read your favourite inspirational quote.

My personal favourite is this one by Jim Rohn: “Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” If you don’t have a favourite, here is a list for you to refer to.

7. Perform a random act of kindness.

You’ll feel better about yourself, as well as life in general, when you get into the excellent habit of performing a random act of kindness at least once a day.

This good habit for students to cultivate doesn’t require a lot of time.

It could be something as simple as giving someone a genuine compliment or giving up your seat on the bus.

8. Get five minutes of sun.

Sunlight

Be sure to include going outside in your list of healthy habits to practise.

There are many benefits of getting some sun every day.

For example, it improves brain function, enhances sleep quality, and reduces the risk of certain cancers.

So don’t spend your entire day cooped up inside!

9. Do something that scares you.

This is the best way to build courage and develop confidence.

Yes, it’s scary to face your fears, so I encourage you to start small. List your fears and decide on a tiny action you can take today to overcome just one of those fears.

10. Spend time with like-minded people whom you want to learn from.

As a student, you come in contact with many people throughout your day.

Spend time with like-minded individuals whom you want to learn from.

These people will change the way you think, while giving you advice about how to improve your life.

11. Eat breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up.

Eating breakfast is a healthy habit for students that you shouldn’t overlook.

It’s easy to find a reason to skip breakfast, but this is a mistake.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you should eat it within 30 minutes of rising.

This will give you the energy you need to take on the day.

12. Drink at least eight glasses of water.

The health benefits of drinking water are tremendous. Everyone knows they should drink eight glasses of water a day, but few people actually do this.

Make this a habit and your body will thank you down the road.

13. Exercise for at least 15 minutes.

You may not have time to hit the gym for an hour or two, but a short burst of daily exercise is an essential healthy habit for students.

Everyone can find 15 minutes in their day to exercise.

This can be as simple as going for a brisk walk or doing some calisthenics.

Over time, you’ll find that you’re more energetic and that you fall sick less often too.

14. Go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time every day.

It’s hard to be well-rested when your sleep schedule is all over the place.

You might find it hard to go to bed and wake up at exactly the same time every day, but try to stay within a 30-minute window.

15. Get at least eight hours of sleep every night.

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is a healthy habit that many students struggle to incorporate in their lives.

Most people need at least eight hours of sleep every night in order to function optimally.

So set your schedule to ensure that you’re working toward this goal.

(Learn how getting eight hours of sleep a night helped me to become a better – and happier – student.)

16. Follow a bedtime routine.

If you lack a bedtime routine, you may find it difficult to wind down and enter “sleep mode”.

Establish a routine that you can follow, night in and night out. This can be as simple as:

  • Take a shower
  • Dim the lights
  • Put on some relaxing music
  • Read a few pages of your favourite book
  • Journal for a few minutes
  • Turn off the lights

17. Set up your phone so that you receive reminders for things you have to do.

With a reminder or task app like Todoist , you can turn your phone into your personal assistant.

Set up your device to remind you of things you have to do, a meeting you have scheduled with your advisor, or a phone call you need to make.

18. If you’re trying to change a bad habit, set up a reward and punishment system.

Bad habits are hard to break . To give yourself an extra incentive, set up a reward and punishment system.

When you make progress, reward yourself. But when you take a step back, enforce a punishment. This holds you accountable, allowing you to change the habit sooner rather than later.

19. If you don’t understand something that was taught in school, clarify your doubts on that same day.

Even the best students don’t understand everything at first.

If you don’t understand a particular concept that your teacher talked about in class, clarify your doubts that same day. This good habit will ensure that you keep up with the material.

20. Create a study plan for any upcoming tests or exams.

Without a study plan to enable you to concentrate , you’ll lack the structure you need to best prepare for an upcoming test or exam.

Make your plan clear and specific, and add in timelines too.

If there’s one study tip you should implement , it’s this one!

21. Be at least five minutes early for every appointment.

Arriving late for an appointment is never a good idea.

It’s a good habit for students to arrive five minutes early for every appointment, as this will ease your stress and show the other person how much you care about the appointment.

22. Review your homework list.

Writing

There’s nothing worse than finding out you have an assignment due the next day that you haven’t even started on.

Guard against this by keeping your homework list current and combining it with reminders on your phone (see Point #17 above).

23. Before you start work, make sure you have all the materials and resources you need.

Organisation is essential to reaching your goals.

Before you start any task, make sure you have everything you need, e.g., notes, stationery, textbook, calculator.

Not only will this keep you organised for school-related tasks , it will also help you avoid unnecessary distractions and interruptions.

24. When memorising information, use mnemonic devices whenever possible.

For example, if you’re trying to memorise the electromagnetic spectrum, you might use this mnemonic device:

  • R icky (Radio)
  • M artin (Microwaves)
  • I s (Infrared)
  • V ery (Visible)
  • U nique (Ultraviolet) and
  • e X tremely (X-rays)
  • G lamorous (Gamma rays)

Such mnemonic devices help you to learn information faster, while aiding in recall too.

25. Focus on one task at a time; don’t multitask.

Research shows that multitasking negatively affects productivity. If you think you’re more productive by multitasking, you’re just tricking yourself.

So choose one task to work on and stick with it until you’re done. This study habit alone will make you a much better student!

26. Before you get down to work, remove all distractions.

There are many things you can do to avoid distractions while studying.

Before you begin your study session, remove as many distractions as possible, e.g., phone, Internet, games, unnecessary notes on your study table.

27. Break down a big task into several smaller ones.

A big task, such as a 10-page report, can be intimidating. But if you break that task down into 10 writing sessions of one page each, you’ll find it much easier to complete the report.

Adopt this approach and you’ll gradually overcome your habit of procrastination.

28. Whenever possible, do your regular homework at the same time and place every day.

Just as you should establish a sleep routine, you should also establish a homework routine to ensure that you don’t procrastinate .

Have a time and place for completing your regular homework, as this will improve your overall productivity and allow you to get your homework done faster .

29. Check through your homework after you’ve completed it.

Doing homework

As you reach the end of a homework assignment, you’ll probably begin to think about what you’re going to do during your break.

But don’t mark the assignment as “complete” until you’ve checked through it for mistakes.

This little bit of extra effort will pay off in the long run!

30. Take regular breaks – at least one every hour.

Research shows that taking regular breaks improves attention and productivity .

Taking one break an hour will keep you fresh, allowing you to work at your peak concentration for a longer period of time.

31. Give yourself a small reward after you complete each major task.

Reward systems don’t just work for young children.

Students benefit from such systems as well, as it gives you the incentive to work through a task in a timely manner.

32. Organise your notes and assignments.

Being organised is essential to succeeding in school , so establish good habits for staying on top of your schoolwork.

Take just 5 to 10 minutes every day to organise your notes and assignments.

When it’s time to prepare for your next test or exam, you won’t find yourself looking all over the place just to find the resources you need.

33. Clear your study table at the end of each day.

When your day comes to an end, clear your study table so that you’ll have a fresh start the following day.

You don’t want your day to start with a desk full of clutter, because this will likely make you feel unmotivated.

34. Read for at least 10 minutes a day.

With so many benefits of reading – from reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease to lowering stress levels – it’s something you should do every day.

I recommend that you include reading as part of your bedtime routine (see Point #16).

35. Whenever you face a problem, ask yourself: “What is one thing I can do right now to make the situation better?”

This is a difficult habit to get into, as many people instinctively shy away from a problem or try to think past it.

Don’t do this. Instead, find the one thing you can do right now to make the situation better.

This may not solve your problem immediately, but it will put you on the road to doing so.

36. Ask for help, if necessary.

This doesn’t mean you should always rely on others for answers, but there’s nothing wrong with reaching out for help when you’re stuck.

Furthermore, research shows that asking for advice makes a good impression on others.

37. Learn something outside the syllabus.

School has a syllabus, but life doesn’t. Learning for the sake of learning is an excellent habit for students to cultivate that will last a lifetime.

Every day, strive to learn something outside the school syllabus. I encourage you to read a book , take an online course, or learn a new skill.

There are so many resources available on the Internet, so the information is really just a click away.

38. Spend a few minutes reflecting on the day gone by.

Reflecting

At the end of each day, take the time to look back and reflect on what happened during the day.

Did you make progress toward your goals? What were your successes and failures? What good (and not-so-good) decisions did you make?

This simple habit of reflection will help you to get better, day by day.

39. Spend at least 15 minutes talking to your family.

You probably already know you should do this.

Family is one of the most important things in the world, so don’t take it for granted.

40. Spend 20 minutes doing something relaxing.

Maybe you enjoy listening to music to relax your mind and body. Or maybe you enjoy reading.

Whatever you prefer, give yourself 20 minutes a day to do something relaxing. This will help you to be a calm, relaxed, and positive person.

Start with just one new good habit

As you review this list of good habits for students to practise daily, remember that you’re always in a position to make a change.

It takes 21 days or more to develop a new habit , so there’s no such thing as overnight success.

But the process will be worth it.

Just make sure you don’t pick up any bad study habits along the way, which will hold your progress back.

As you develop good habits, you’ll experience positive changes. You’ll become a healthier, more productive, and more successful student. So get started today! 🙂

Short Speech on Good Habits

Category: Speech (English) On March 18, 2019 By Ananda

It has been always said that good habits lead to a good life. Good morning respected teachers and fellow students . Today I’m here to give you a speech on good habits. Since our birth, our parents start teaching us good habits because they want us to be a good human.

It’s always good to apply good habits in your life because they can make your life more hygienic, simple and enjoyable. You should always follow good habits like sleep early, wake up early, brush your teeth daily, have a bath daily, wash your hands after and before eating, avoiding junk food and so on.

Putting yourself into bad habits means inviting many germs and diseases in your life. You will be always troubled and could not manage to live a healthy and happy life. Habits always express your character . You show what type of human you are by your habits.

Shouting unnecessary, hitting while playing, not respecting elders, not obeying the rules are the characteristics of a person with bad habits. If you will follow them, then nobody will like to have a conversation with you or be your friend. Everyone will have you if you will not follow good habits.

In the last of my speech, I just want to say people come close to us by seeing our habits. If we will not follow good habits then no friends will be staying with us. We should always follow good habits to stay happy and healthy. Good habits always help us to be a good man and a good citizen. We should always neglect bad habit and if in case we attempt something wrong then we should know to accept our mistake and say sorry.

Short Speech on Good Manners

Possessing good manners refers to one's ability to behave properly in social situations. Living a social life depends greatly on having decent manners. Particularly in youngsters, it should be instilled from an early age. The most crucial aspect of our nature and life is how we behave, whether it is in a good or negative way. While bad manners disgrace us, good manners assist us in gaining respect and dignity in society. Good manners give a proper shaping to a personality.

Good manners makes every person extraordinary in their own way. In everyday life, manners are crucial. Our body language, temperament, demeanour, civility, and manners are all reflected in them. We do our duties in every aspect of life, and our moral character is put to the test. Here are some examples of good manners.

Helping people.

Greetings others respectfully.

Say thank you after receiving something.

Say sorry after making any mistake.

Don't talk back.

We must constantly stand for people who are suffering.

Before touching or utilising someone else's property, we must obtain their consent.

To leave a positive impression on others in daily life, good manners are crucial. They aid in enhancing your sense of self-worth and identity. Good manners should be used anywhere you go, including at home with children, at work with coworkers, and with friends.

Long Speech on Good Manners

Our character is created by our manners. Both good and bad manners are possible. Our reputation is ruined by bad manners. It is referred to as bad manners when we treat people poorly, such as when we are impolite or fail to communicate with them appropriately.

Children should start learning manners at a young age.We rarely lose the virtues and conduct that were instilled in us as children. Good manners are a set of characteristics that support us in life. A person should always act politely. That demonstrates moral integrity. A person's good manners are not truly a part of them if they are only used when there is a profit to be gained or to make others think well of them.

Practicing Good Manners

I believe that using excellent manners is essential for success in daily life. The modern man is hard-pressed and impatient. In order to function in society, one must also develop social graces. These are frequently referred to as manners or etiquettes. For instance, if there isn't another seat available, one must offer one to an elderly person. One must cover their lips with a handkerchief or at the very least their hand when they cough or sneeze in public.

Additionally, when in a social setting, one must wait their turn to speak. It's impolite to interject in other people's conversations. Students who behave well benefit from their own personal development and become better people overall. Anyone who is kind to us deserves our gratitude. Being polite is essential to having a great and honourable personality in society. It supports our soul's and mind's positivity. Our admirable conduct demonstrates the strength of our character. To foster constructive contact, we ought to reverence and respect others.

Examples of Good Manners

When you first meet someone, introduce yourself by name. Introduce yourself by name and ask the person you are meeting with their name if you haven't met them previously.

For example, You may say, "Hello, my name is James. Which is yours?" When it comes to introductions, different cultures and nations have distinct customs, so be sure you are aware of them where you are.

Use the words "please" and "thank you" while making requests. Start with saying "please" whenever you need to make a request or need anything. In this manner, it won't appear as though you are expecting the other person to perform tasks for you.

For instance, you might ask, "Could you hand me that book please?" Upon receiving the book, "Would you kindly hand the book to me?" Say "Thank you" after receiving the book.

To demonstrate that you are kind and considerate, offer to assist others. Ask if there is anything you can do for someone if you see them in need.

Take the time to help the other person if the request is reasonable and you can complete it without difficulty. You might not always need to ask someone for aid. You can give your seat on a bus to someone who needs to sit down, or you can hold a door open for someone who is approaching from behind.

Speech on Good Habits (857 words)

March 5, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Greetings to one and all present over here. I request you all to bear with me as I present in front of you my speech on the topic ‘Good Habits’.

I urge you to pardon me for any mistake that I commit knowingly or unknowingly while presenting my thoughts.

Good habits. What are good habits? And why it is needed? Have you ever reflected on these questions?

Well, Google defines good habits as a behaviour that is beneficial to one’s physical or mental health, often linked to a high level of discipline and self-control.

In simpler words we can state it as the regular works to be done by an individual which will not harm or affect his mental and physical health, but in turn will benefit him and make a better person out of him.

A person is known by the character that he projects in the society. In a society you have to literally ‘earn’ respect.

And that can be done only when you are a disciplined person which good habits. Only when you establish yourself as a self-righteous disciplined person, only then will the society take you seriously.

Otherwise, you will remain as an incongruous, unimportant piece of the big mass of such people about whom nobody ever bothers.

In India this number is high, since in maximum parts the literacy rate is low, hence the people do not give much importance to good habits.

They indulge in rather bad habits such as – drinking too much alcohol, talking loudly in public, talking on the phone while driving, spitting on walls, doing toilet out in the open and many more.

Hence, we should all start cultivating good habits at a young age. Otherwise, those children will face humiliation in their later life for their inappropriate habits and methods.

Here is a list of some good habits to start with. There are some basic habits which one should develop to lead a healthy life:-

  • Going to bed on time . Minimum eight hours of sleep is necessary for proper digestion.

Remember the age-old phrase “ early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. “?

Doing regular exercises – Exercises are very important to keep our body in good working condition. Exercise in the early morning is the best therapy one can possibly get.

Eating healthy food – Food regulates our digestion. Our eating habits speak a lot about us. It tells how much importance we give to our body and mind. Hence, good food habits are a must.

Brushing twice a day – A healthy smile not only will make you happy but will make others happy too. Hence, to have a good smile you need healthy teeth.

To have healthy teeth you need to brush twice a day. Brushing twice a day removes all the germ attack that occurs in our teeth all throughout the night.

Do not keep any pending work – Not keeping any pending work or not being lazy is the most important habit that parents should teach children in recent days.

Often laziness leads to work build-up, which in later days forms a burden, sometimes this burden is so much that it becomes hard to finish. Hence, we should all give up on our lazy selves and start completing what is required of us on time.

Table manners – Table manners speaks about a person’s upbringing. People without proper upbringing do not know how to behave sophisticatedly when they are eating at a table with others.

Often such people are laughed at in high-class societies. Hence, to save oneself from embarrassment it is important that we should learn good table manners.

Cleaning up mess – Cleaning up what we have made dirty is our responsibility. This is an important teaching especially for children.

Children usually create a mess but forget to clear it up. They should be taught to clean up their own litter so that when they grow up they don’t get embarrassed in any public place.

Being responsible with money – Money matters are such which trouble even the elders. Money is a very conditional item.

Today it’s there, tomorrow it’s not there. Hence, it should be used very judiciously when it’s there with us. Saving money is also an art. Children should be made to learn its importance.

Sharing is caring – When we share we feel good. When we share with others it shows that we care for them.

Not littering public spaces – Public spaces are meant for everyone and not for an individual alone. Littering public spaces means you are breaching the rights of other people as well.

Respecting women and elders – Respecting women and elders not just for gender or age but for humanity.

These habits and some other habits can together build up a good citizen. Remember a good foundation only leads to a good building which stands erect for lifetime.

Hence, from childhood only we should start cultivating good habits to have a better tomorrow.

Not only this we should help others who lack such knowledge and encourage them to give up on their bad habits and adopts a better means to lead a healthy life.

Goals and Skills

Students will:.

  • Understand and explain the difference between healthy and  unhealthy habits
  • Demonstrate how to make decisions in their best interests
  • Practice and refine language and communication skills

SUPPLIES AND PREPARATION:

  • Chart paper
  • Healthy and unhealthy habits sentence strips (see page 3 of PDF)
  • Make copies of the student handout My Healthy
  • Habits Chart (see page 4 of PDF)

Instruction Steps

Start by reviewing the use of present tense to discuss habitual action, as in “I run every day.” Have students practice by each sharing one thing they do every day, using this format.

Introduce the activity by telling students that the class will be looking at personal habits and sorting out those we believe are healthy from others that are not.

SORT HABITS.

Divide the board in half. Label half “Healthy Habits” and the other half “Unhealthy Habits.” Have each student choose several sentence strips (listed on page 3 of PDF) from a bag and tape them to the appropriate side of the board.

Compare and contrast the choices as a class, moving strips when necessary.

EXPLORE AND DISCUSS.

As a class, define and rephrase the terms “healthy habit” and “unhealthy habit.” Next, ask students to provide additional examples of each.

Discuss ways to add more healthy habits to their day. Explore motivations for doing more healthy things, and why we do unhealthy things, even when we know they’re bad for us.

EXTEND THE LESSON.

Give students a copy of the chart (page 4 of PDF). Explain that they will use this chart to track three healthy habits they can do each day for one week.

Remind students about their chart each day. Provide incentives for students to complete the full chart, such as a special sticker or badge. After a week, discuss how doing those healthy things makes them feel each day, and over time.

HOME CONNECTION.

Encourage parents to get involved by signing off on their child’s chart and stating that they also completed the activity as a family.
