Um short film de animação que segue, basicamente, a história comentada por Van Helsing durante o encontro com Mr. Hyde na Catedral de Notre Dame no início do filme. Era um história necessária? Não, mas é um complemento a mais na história do filme, não é algo que me agrida.

ENG. An animated short film that basically follows the story commented by Van Helsing during the meeting with Mr. Hyde at Notre Dame Cathedral at the beginning of the film. Was a story necessary? No, but it's one more complement to the film's story, it's not something I dislike.

Alan Partridge: Right, OK. Van Helsing, Dracula Untold, The Mummy. What does that say to you about reboots based on Universal Horror that attempt to start a cinematic universe?

Tony Hayers: There's too many of them?

Alan Partridge: That's one way of looking at it, another way of looking at it is, people like them, let's make some more of them. A horror film based in Norwich called "Swallow". Swallow is a vampire who tackles vandalism. Bit of a maverick, not afraid to bite a few necks if he thinks it's necessary. Spend 2 hours last night looking for this 30 minute shortfilm and finally www.bilibili.tv/en/video/2001367373

Its basically Catholic Batman in the victorian era. Also still cant get over the fact that we lost multiple spin offs and series bcz of bad reviews on the movie. This short shows how passionate they were. wouldv loved to see more of Huge Jacked Man take on gothic literary monsters.

Universal. DVD 1.78 :1 Color  Digital  12 A nice little prologue of the Van Helsing character with a decent amount of depth. Jackman's accent feels a little off but his voice work is great and dynamic with Wenham sounds and works well. The animation itself looks great and surprisingly violent throughout. It's twist on events in London was interesting but barely touched the surface.

I would have preferred this short cartoon to have developed into a Van Helsing movie because even this little bit we got is much better than the movie.

This short cartoon is a the story of Jack the Ripper combined with the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The cartoon starts mysteriously and provides a good basis for the further story, but due to its short duration, it quickly jumps to parts of the chase in order to make some kind of complete ending.

The animation is also well done, and I'm sorry that this cartoon isn't a bit longer, because it would have been much better and more popular.

Remember that Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie that was massive in 2004 and no ones really talked about it since? This was like a promo or cash in animated movie from around its release. It's not horrible, change the names of the characters and you're just watching an animated Batman movie.

Pretty cool, I actually this concept works better for animation than live action. I wish this were a series that got picked up.

Ni idea que había una precuela animada de Van Hellsing Es como el equivalente a ver un episodio de Batman y está bastante bueno

Man, I really wish this would’ve developed into a proper franchise.

This, in particular, makes me wish for a Van Helsing animated series. He could’ve had a different Universal monster every week, with some recurring ones (Dracula, of course, but also maybe the Invisible Man or Imhotep).

At 30 mins this probably should’ve just been an extra on the Van Helsing DVD but I checked it out from the library so I don’t really care.

Instead of a 30 minute prequel I would have loved this to be a full length animated movie or even a tv show.... we were robbed!

The London Assignment is a short animated Supernatural Action Horror Mystery Fiction Prequel to Van Helsing , both released in 2004 with the prequel produced by Production I.G and animated by Sunwoo Entertainment . It stars Hugh Jackman who returns to provide the voice for Van Helsing.

A string of strange murders are going on in London, and the Vatican sends Van Helsing ( Hugh Jackman ) and Carl ( David Wenham ) to look in to the matter. They then discover a fiendish plot by one Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde ( Dwight Schultz / Robbie Coltrane ) which involves Queen Victoria ( Tara Strong ).

This prequel has examples of:

  • Absurdly-Spacious Sewer : After the underground train crashes, Van Helsing and Friar Carl chase after Mr. Hyde through rather spacious sewer lines.
  • Badass Boast : Mr. Hyde: Who are you? Van Helsing: What you fear most. ( Dramatic Thunder )
  • Big Bad : Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.
  • Blunt "Yes" : A humourous example- Victoria : Are you giving me an order?! Van Helsing : Pretty much.
  • Deadpan Snarker : Van Helsing, Carl and Hyde all have their moments. Hyde : You're no policeman! Van Helsing : You don't miss much.
  • Dem Bones : While making their way to Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde's lair through a patch of underground fire, Van Helsing and Friar Carl are attacked by a horde of undead beefeaters.
  • Disguised in Drag : Van Helsing makes Friar Carl dress as a woman and hang around London at the night to lure out Mr. Hyde. Van Helsing : Stop squirming! Carl : If you'd brought me the proper size corset , I wouldn't have to squirm! Van Helsing : There! A vision of loveliness! Carl : I told the Cardinal when he got your cable, I am not a field man! Van Helsing : There's not much danger of you being mistaken for any kind of man, Carl. Carl : Ugh, you put on too much powder, and this lip rouge with this scarf?! No real lady would be caught dead (Beat) ... Perhaps not the best choice of words . Van Helsing : Carl, for a friar, you know an awful lot about lip rouge. Carl : Anything worth doing is worth doing well ...even being demon bait.
  • Evil Plan : Dr. Jekyll plans to use the souls stolen by him to turn Queen Victoria young again, and then marry her.
  • Foregone Conclusion : If you have seen the original film, you know that it would end with Mr. Hyde escaping and Van Helsing following him to Paris.
  • Groin Attack : While disguised as a woman, Friar Carl has to fend off advances from a man by kicking him in the groin.
  • The Jekyll Is a Jerk : The original Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde feature as the main villains of the story, with both being monstrous in their own way. While Hyde is still the murderous brute he was in the live-action film, Jekyll is a self-deluding stalker who's been more than willing to profit from Hyde's murders in order to advance his own scheme.
  • Monumental Battle : The hot air balloon that Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde tries to escape with crashes on the London Bridge, where the final battle takes place.
  • My God, You Are Serious! : Van Helsing's reaction to Victoria's true identity (since he's more used to seeing her as the old woman she should be at the time of the story, rather than the young woman in front of him). Victoria : Sir, since it is obvious that you do not recognise me, I am Alexandrina Victoria Wettin by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith. Van Helsing : Queen Victoria?! [He bursts out laughing, only to then catch sight of Victoria's Death Glare ) Seriously?
  • Prequel : The animated film takes place before the events of the original film.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning : Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde's lackeys have red glowing eyes.
  • Slashed Throat : The story opens with Mr. Hyde cornering his latest victim and slicing her throat open.
  • Royal Brat : The young Victoria has shades of this, she improves after Van Helsing saves her… until she returns to her older form .
  • Stalker with a Crush : Dr. Jekyll has been obsessed with Queen Victoria (and convinced that she returns his feelings) since he first saw her on her coronation day.
  • Traintop Battle : Soon after discovering Mr. Hyde in the underground train, Van Helsing has to battle him on top of it.
  • Two Aliases, One Character : It turns out that Jack the Ripper was actually Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.
  • Wham Line : Victoria : Why would I need someone to give me youth?! I'm only twenty years old! Van Helsing : Your Majesty...you're seventy .
  • Would Hit a Girl : Dr. Jekyll is Jack the Ripper , killing prostitutes in Whitechapel to use their souls in his plans to de-age Queen Victoria.
  • Your Soul Is Mine! : After killing his victims, Mr. Hyde uses a special vial to collect their souls, which are then used to de-age Queen Victoria .

Watch Van Helsing: The London Assignment

  • 6.1   (2,967)

Van Helsing: The London Assignment is a 2004 animated movie that tells the story of Van Helsing, the famous monster hunter from Bram Stoker's Dracula. It is a prequel to the live-action movie Van Helsing, which starred Hugh Jackman as the titular character. The movie is set in London in the late 19th century, and it begins with the brutal murder of a young woman. The authorities are unable to solve the case, so they call upon Van Helsing to help them. Van Helsing is initially hesitant to take on the case, but he is persuaded to do so by the promise of a large sum of money.

Van Helsing teams up with his trusty sidekick, Friar Carl, and together they set out to investigate the murder. They quickly discover that the killer is a werewolf, and they begin to track him down. Along the way, they meet a young woman named Victoria who has a connection to the werewolf.

As Van Helsing and Friar Carl get closer to finding the werewolf, they uncover a sinister plot that involves a secret society of vampire hunters. The society is led by a man named Balder who has his own agenda and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.

As the story unfolds, Van Helsing and Friar Carl must navigate a dangerous world of supernatural creatures and political intrigue. They face numerous obstacles and setbacks, but they remain determined to uncover the truth about the murder and stop Balder's evil plan.

The animation in Van Helsing: The London Assignment is top-notch, with detailed character designs and impressive action sequences. The voice acting is also excellent, with Hugh Jackman bringing his characteristic intensity to the role of Van Helsing. Robbie Coltrane also shines as Friar Carl, providing a much-needed comic relief in the midst of all the horror and suspense.

One of the highlights of the movie is the depiction of London in the late 19th century. The animators have done an excellent job of creating a dark and atmospheric city that feels both real and fantastical at the same time. The movie also features some impressive visual effects, particularly in the scenes involving the werewolf transformation.

Overall, Van Helsing: The London Assignment is a thrilling and entertaining movie that will delight fans of horror and adventure. While it may not have the same budget or star power as the live-action movie, it more than makes up for it with its engaging story, stunning visuals, and memorable characters. Whether you're a fan of the original Dracula story or just enjoy a good monster movie, Van Helsing: The London Assignment is definitely worth checking out.

Van Helsing: The London Assignment

cast of van helsing the london assignment

Ever since The Matrix made a killing selling animated add-ons to its sequels called “The Animatrix” everyone has been out to cash in by re-treading the same idea, even though The Matrix sequels themselves are now regarded as somewhat of a failure. Van Helsing: London Assignment is just another iteration in a never ending trend of copycatting as a way to squeeze as much money as possible out of potential fans pockets. Only, how many seriously hardcore fans does a movie like Van Helsing actually have? Not enough to justify releasing a half-hour animated feature on DVD. But they’ve gone ahead and done it anyway. Van Helsing: London Assignment is something of a prequel to the theatrical movie that debuted this summer to mediocre reception and initially strong, but fast fading box office numbers. If you saw it, like me you probably enjoyed it. If you didn’t, you probably don’t feel like you missed out on anything… and will no doubt live happy lives without giving it another thought. But interested or no, London Assignment picks up right before the movie begins, with an animated Van Helsing (voiced by Hugh Jackman) in his first encounter with the infamous Mr. Hyde. For this adventure, he’s again accompanied by the mousey friar inventor Carl. Of course if you’ve seen the movie this makes absolutely no sense since Carl’s first encounter with Van Helsing comes in the movie… maybe I should shut up, it’s just a cartoon. Shut up it’s just a cartoon seems to be London Assignment’s general philosophy, with the story shooting all over the map in tone and scattered storytelling being the order of the day. At times it’s pretty gory, no doubt trying to sucker in all those rabid anime fans and their disturbing obsession with blood. If that’s their goal, they’ll probably succeed, because bad animation without coherent plot progression and lots of entrails is generally standard fare for most of the beloved anime hanging around out there. Maybe this thing just wasn’t created for me. Anyway, Mr. Hyde’s dastardly plot is to murder young women, steal their souls, feed those souls to the Queen of England, make the Queen of England young, beautiful and stupid, and then marry her so he can presumably have sex with her in wedlock, thus avoiding pissing off god. Mr. Hyde’s lair is hell… or something that is a close approximation of hell and coincidentally exists in the basement of Buckingham Palace. You’d think the palace guards might notice the smell of sulphur. So Van Helsing tracks down the monster, shoots off all sorts of gadgets, sprays Holy Water, things happen and Mr. Hyde’s evil and confusing plot is defeated. Oh and Hyde turns into Dr. Jekyll once in awhile. I mean really, what’s the point here? The only good thing about London Assignment is the voice acting. So often in these things they get lame impersonators to mimic the voices of the actors who made the characters famous. But both David Wenham and Hugh Jackman show up to voice their characters. Heck, they don’t’ just show up, they do a fantastic job. Both sound like they’re really into it, which tells me that neither of them read the script in advance. Somewhere in the muddle of extra features thrown on this DVD, Hugh Jackman claims that they spent as much time making this thirty minute animated feature as they did on making the Van Helsing movie itself. This tells me that either they hired extremely slow animators or that Stephen Sommers is some sort of pepped up, high speed, super director because I can’t believe they spent more than a week or two creating London Assignment or the extra stuff on this disk. But first let’s talk about presentation. They let you skip the trailers. That’s always a good thing. On a budget release like this, you can’t take that for granted. Oh and the movie is on the disc… um and it’s clear I guess and also in widescreen. It’s just mediocre animation, I mean how much do you really care about things like visual quality or sound? You probably don’t, but it’s there and all done up typically sharp. Moving on, there’s some nice interviews with Hugh Jackman in which he deludes himself into thinking London Assignment is some great, important thing. He talks about how cool it is to be a cartoon character and then seems to be doing some sort of paid advertisement for London Assignment . Does he really believe it’s great? Hugh is such a nice guy, I think he’s just being generous. Still he’s affable and charismatic, so the interviews aren’t painful. He could be selling aspirin and I probably still wouldn’t mind listening. There’s extra info on Van Helsing the movie on here too in “Van Helsing: Behind the Screams”, a special which looks like it was designed to air on the WB and hosted by Josie Maran, one of the models who played as a luscious bride of Dracula in the film. Josie delivers all of her lines like she’s reading from cue cards, but stopped taking reading lessons some time after third grade. She’s pretty though, so whatever. Also included is a making of the Van Helsing video game… which is irrelevant and another feature called “Animatic to Animation”. Storyboards folks. Is there anything more boring than staring at storyboards? Ok, maybe production stills. Look, this isn’t a good cartoon none of you are going to buy the DVD, so what does it matter if it has extras? Actually, lets give them some credit for even bother with extras. I don’t think I would have.
