Essay on Tiger in English 500 Words

Below we have provided an extended Essay on Tiger, suitable for class 7, 8, 9 and 10 school students.

Tigers are the most beautiful animals on the planet. They are found in the dense forest because of their characteristic feature to stay aloof from human contact. In India, they are found in the jungles of Sundarbans, West Bengal, Assam and Central India. They belong to the cat family and often referred to as big cats. Tigers are known to be a territorial and solitary animal who stands as the apex predator.

Habitat and Physical Features

Tiger possesses a muscular body with strong forelimbs. Its pelage is massive, and colouration varies from brown to orange with black stripes. The strips are unique for every tiger and help in camouflage in vegetation, especially in the long grass. Their hair growth is thick around the neck and jaws with long whiskers, especially in males. The skull of the tiger is like the lion’s skull.

Having blessed with padded feet and sharp claws, they display unique hunting skills which let them have a stronghold on their prey. Tigers are nocturnal as they sleep in the day and hunt in the night. Its eye glow like a fire in the dark night and their vision is six times stronger than humans during night. The tail plays a crucial role in hunting as it helps to balance while running fast. The teeth are divided into two parts-two in the upper jaw and two in the lower jaw.

Hunting and Diet

They usually feed on large or medium-sized mammals. The most preferred are deer, wild boar, cow, barasingha, etc. If not larger ones, then it feeds on smaller prey such as birds, hares, fish, porcupines and monkeys. Moreover, they also prefer other prey like leopards, bears, dogs and crocodiles.

Due to their antisocial behaviour, they hunt alone and ambush their prey using their body size and weight to knock the victim off balance. Like other predators, tigers also bite the throat of the prey and remains latched onto it till the target dies of strangulation. Tigers can even hunt swiftly in water because of its extraordinary swimming skills.

Causes for Tiger Endangerment

The tiger numbers are declining due to excessive cutting of trees, which causes to lose their natural habitat. They are forced to live in an unnatural environment. Tigers being territorial require more substantial space to roam and hunt. But with the reduction of the number of prey and surrounding, they suffer tremendously. Global warming brought climate change which leads them to become vulnerable. Poaching and hunting are the immediate threat to the species.

They are poached for their bones, organs, skin, fur, and sold in the black markets. Another danger is retaliatory killing which is caused when tigers enter the residential areas in the villages to kill cattle. Villages retaliate by killing them as loss of livestock means loos of livelihood for them.

Project Tiger

Project Tiger was commenced in the year 1973 with the objective to protect the striped predator from extinction. Under the project, few areas in India are identified as Tiger Reserves. Since then, special efforts are carried out to save the animal. Initially, nine reserves were set up later, which increased to 27 centres in the year 2003. The chief goal of the project is as follows:

  • Restricting and banishing all sorts of human activity in the core zones and minimalizing the action in the buffer zone.
  • Evaluating the damage done to the eco-system and implementing solutions to recover it to its original form.
  • Surveilling the changes brought and researching the conditions prudent for their survival.
  • Ensuring to increase the population through breeding in their species.

Furthermore, plans are devised to develop a wireless communication system to curb the evil act of poaching. Steps like relocating the villages away from core areas, control of livestock grazing in tiger area and assessments regarding the environmental changes have come to fruition by displaying positive signs. Although the government has tried to increase the number, still it is not satisfactory compared to the money invested in the scheme.

Nature has always helped mankind by bestowing immense bounties, thus flourishing human race. Therefore, it is essential as a human being to give back to nature in the form of love, care, protection and respect. Saving wildlife and taking precautionary measures is crucial to our environment as it will help those on the brink of extinction. Voluntary help is required by everyone to work together with the government and wildlife organizations to save mother earth.

The environment safety programs, nature projects, project tiger, nature camps etc. are started by the Indian government outspread awareness among the people. The projects not only have the aim to preserve our national heritage but also promote eco-tourism. Together as responsible citizens, we can make all the projects successful and help refloat the sabotaged conditions that hamper the peace of earth.

Short Essay on Tiger in English 250 Words

Tiger Essay, usually given for class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 students.

Tiger is the national animal of India due to its strength, agility and energy. It is found in the dense forest and considered to be the most powerful, attractive and aggressive animal. Although they live in a dense forest, they are usually spotted in villages and other residential areas due to the mass cutting of trees. They belong to the cat family because of its resemblance to a cat. It has enormous teeth and a long tail with the ability to jump from a very long distance.

Tigers devour on other animals like cow, deer, goat and rabbit. People often refer them to be the God of the forest as they are a symbol of wealth in the woods. Tigers average height and length is 8 to 10 feet and 3 to 4 feet. Generally, it sleeps in the day and hunts in the night. It uses chemical signalling as a form of conveying its physical dominance to other animals. The signal has a long-lasting effect than physical or auditory signalling and could be in the form of urine, excretions, glandular secretion etc.

The strips on its body assist in camouflaging due to which it appears unrecognised to the prey. This provides an opportunity to pounce on the victim and make a good kill. In India, tigers are found in Assam, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura etc. Poaching and hunting have led the population of the tiger to decrease rapidly, thus crippling the food-chain and ecology balance.

Short and Long Essays on Save Tiger

Tiger is the most charismatic and ferocious wild cat and the national animal of India.  Tiger symbolises India’s wildlife wealth. It is considered as the national animal because of its grace, strength, agility and enormous power. Also, India is the land of the largest number of tigers in the world and consists of 50% of the world’s tiger population. Yet this creature is the most slaughtered one in the country and is on the verge of becoming extinct. In 1970, the alarm was raised and hunting of tigers was made illegal. Many programs and initiatives were taken for the protection of the tiger population living in the wild.

Essay On Tigers 200 Words

In India, from the era of kings and princes, hunting tigers had been a popular source of entertaining sport, which continued during the British rule. The royal families and elites hunted tigers for several reasons; they were killed for the beautiful skin, which was used for making clothes, rugs, etc; for its multitude of medicinal properties and for other selfish interests. There was and there is a huge demand for tiger parts and products in the market outside India’s border, which is providing an added threat to the tiger’s very existence.

It is also perceived that large development projects like mining, thermal and hydroelectric dams are also affecting the tiger’s habitat as many forests have been destroyed to facilitate such projects.

Why Save Tigers?

As a large predator, tigers play a pivotal role in maintaining the equilibrium of the ecosystem. Tigers being the top predators, they are at the apex of the food cycle. They along with other predators keep a check on the herbivore animals, thus helping in maintaining the right balance of animals in the forest. This cycle can prevent deforestation. One tiger can protect several acres of forest in this way. In this way, the tigers and other animals will continue to get their natural habitat.

Essay On Tigers 500 Words

The very first thing anyone should do is to spread awareness among people regarding the matter of preserving the tigers. One can create and increase attention to “Preserve Tigers” by spreading adverts, leaflets, by the use of the Internet, by social media, by creating websites, etc. Public attention is crucial for such matters.

Protecting the jungles by all means necessary is the next most important phase in order to preserve the population of the tigers. The awareness that was spread earlier will come in handy as people will begin to join the cause on their own. Planting new trees in the areas around the forest is also a great idea.

Raise the voice against the projects that can seriously impact the already decreasing tiger population. The big corporations will eventually have to come down if a voice strong enough was created. Raising the issue and concerns regarding the tiger population with the government can also be helpful.

Project Tiger

Tiger Conservation has become the most crucial project for India and other countries for numerous reasons.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi initiated a conservation program called ‘Project Tiger’ in 1973 in Jim Corbett Park, Uttarakhand to save the tigers from becoming endangered.

The aim of this project was to create a safe and ideal environmental condition for the survival and growth of tigers and their prey.

The project started with nine tiger reserves and today there are 50 reserves across the country. Nagarjuna Sagar is the largest tiger reserve in India.

Over the years, this project has been able to identify and eliminate the factors responsible for the decline of the tiger population in the country and successfully saved tigers to a large extent.  Other than conservation, the aim of Project Tiger is to aid and facilitate the breeding of tigers within a safe environment and transport them to other forests so that their population can be scaled up.

Problems of Project Tiger

The Tiger Project was very successful in its endeavor and the population of the tigers increased up to 3500 tigers in the year 1990 from 1200 tigers in 1973. However, due to illegal poaching, the number drastically dropped. The project was not able to keep pace with the rapid changes and development.

In 2006, the National Tiger Conservation Authority resumed the responsibility of implementation of Project Tiger to protect the endangered tigers. Many other NGOs have supported this government project by implementing many conservation activities to protect tiger habitats, mitigate tiger-human conflict, tackle wildlife crime, monitor tiger population, raise awareness and improve the livelihood of people living near the tiger reserves.

Many social campaigns were launched to create awareness about the alarming state of tigers in the country. Well-known celebrities became the face of these campaigns to attract the public for this national cause.

Tiger is an iconic species and yet it is slowly getting extinct. There could be possibilities that our future generation never gets to see tigers in real life but only in pictures. So it is important that citizens of India become aware of this and take all preventive measures to save this species.

FAQs on Save Tiger Essay

Why should we save tigers?

The tiger is a large predator, which plays a significant role in the health and diversity of the ecosystem. Tigers are at the top of the food chain, maintaining the balance between the prey and herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Hence why keep the herbivorous animals in check and prevent deforestation in nature. With the help of this cycle, a single tiger can protect a whole acre of forest from the deforestation that happens due to the overgrazing by the herbivores. In this way, the tiger knowingly or unknowingly preserves the natural habitats for many other animals and also their own habitats.

When was Project Tiger launched and by whom?

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi launched the Project Tiger in 1973 in Jim Corbett Park, Uttarakhand. The program was launched in order to save the tiger population from becoming endangered.

The conservation of tigers from becoming endangered or worse from going extinct was a serious project for many countries and especially for the country of India as India harbours a great population of tigers and also the biggest species of tigers are also present in India by the name of Bangali Tigers.

Protecting the species of the tigers is a moral and ethical duty of the state of India and also the people living in the nation.

What is the aim of Project Tiger?

The Project Tiger aimed at creating a safe and ideal environmental condition for the survival and growth of tigers and their prey. The project started with making a total of 9 such safe and ideal places called tiger reserves. Nowadays, one can find a full of 50 tiger reserves. Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh is said to be the largest tiger reserve present in India.

The project tiger also works and has been able to identify and eliminate various threats that can lead to a decline in the population of the tigers in the reserves and also outside the reserves, like capturing and punishing hunters and poachers who kill tigers to sell their bodyparts in the international black market.

Mention two reasons why tigers are facing a genuine threat of extinction?

The two reasons for the extinction of tigers are encroaching on the natural habitat of the tigers for the development of industries and the poaching of tigers for their body parts, as there is a huge demand in the international market.

From the era of the kings and princes, Hunting tigers have been a popular source of entertainment sports. Rich and Elite people all around the world to this date demand the beautiful skin of tigers, for making of various materials, not just the clothes, which gives them incentives for the poachers and hunters to kill the tigers. Yet, in the past century, their population has drastically decreased by more than 90 percent. Historically, hunting down tigers was part of sports and was considered bravery, and tiger skin used to be displayed in old palaces to prove one’s bravery. The main reason behind extinction is hunting tigers down for their skin, which is in great demand in international and black markets. The extinction of tigers can lead to an unprotected ecosystem which will hamper the food chain. This reason is compelling enough to save tigers from going extinct. The Indian government launched a project to save the tiger by restoring safe environments for the tigers. Currently, we have around 2,967 tigers in India. Hopefully, this project and others will increase the existing number of tigers. We celebrate International Tiger Day on 29th July every year to spread awareness about protecting tigers.

Tigers are the largest members of the cat family. They are known for their speed, fierceness, orange and black striped skin, and undoubtedly unforgiving nature against prey. There is a threat looming on their existence as tiger populations and habitats have decreased due to poaching, deforestation, and other human activities. The tiger is the national animal of India, and we must spread awareness regarding its existence. Therefore, we celebrate International Tiger Day on 29th July every year to spread awareness about protecting tigers.

Why Is There A Need To Save Tigers?

Tigers are unique animals that play an integral part in the diversity of our ecosystem. A healthy ecosystem supplies people and nature with food, fresh water, and health. Protecting wild tigers and their habitats can benefit numerous species and millions of people. As tigers prey on herbivores, the balance between the forest vegetation that they eat and the prey animals is perfectly maintained.

Causes of Decrease In Tiger Population

Tigers are one of the most important animals that are highly threatened on this planet. In ancient times, hunting a tiger was considered to be a very brave thing to do. Many old palaces now have pictures of tiger hunts and displays of tiger skin. As new laws against killing and hunting tigers were passed, instances of tiger hunting came down. In recent times, tigers have been brutally poached by black marketers and their agents for the tiger skin, which is quite in demand in the international market. This skin is used to make rugs, clothes, etc. Deforestation is also another reason for the sudden steep decrease of these cat species in recent years.

How We Can Save Tigers?

The Government of India launched a project to save the tigers and to restore safe environments for the tigers. This project was introduced in the Jim Corbett National park, which focuses on the preservation and increase in the number of tigers. Tigers are declared to be the national animal of India to mark the act of poaching as an unpatriotic and punishable offence. Even though laws are introduced, enforcing laws is essential, and this needs dedicated officers to look after the tigers. Moreover, we should be aware of contributing to saving tigers so that the balance of the ecosystem is maintained. Given below are some points that can help in saving tigers:

  • Stop deforestation as the jungle is the tiger’s natural habitat
  • Say no to poaching, as it is the main reason behind the decline in tigers
  • Don’t buy animal skin clothing to discourage poaching and illegal hunting

Children will learn about the importance of saving tigers. They will grow up to be responsible and aware citizens who will take the necessary steps to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. They will also be able to gather a lot of information about tigers, their importance in nature, and how to increase their number. This will help them develop a better perspective about the topic and make informed decisions in the future.

We need to educate our kids regarding such crucial topics so they can make better decisions regarding the environment and wildlife.

Its distinctive coat, marked with dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur, serves as effective camouflage in various habitats.

Revered as the national animal of several countries, including India, South Korea, and Malaysia, it symbolizes the rich biodiversity of these nations. This essay delves into the significance of the tiger as a national animal, its ecological role, and the challenges it faces.

The Symbolic Significance of the Tiger

The tiger’s symbolism is deeply rooted in the cultures and traditions of the countries it represents. In India, for instance, the tiger is often associated with the Hindu goddess Durga, embodying power and protection. Its regality, ferocity, and grace are metaphors for the spirit of the nation – resilient, powerful, and dignified. Poaching for their skin and body parts, habitat loss due to deforestation, and human-tiger conflicts are major challenges to their survival. The global tiger population has seen a drastic decline over the past century, pushing them towards the brink of extinction.

The tiger chases its prey and kills it, and then feeds on its kill. Other animals too feed on the carcass after the tiger feeds on it. When a tigress hunts an animal for food, she and her cubs feed on it.

The coat of the tiger is orange in colour with black stripes. Each tiger has a unique set of stripes on its coat. A tiger can, therefore, be identified by its stripes.

The tiger is also called a big cat. There are many sub-species of the tiger in the world. In India the royal Bengal tiger is found. It is a critically endangered animal. It is, therefore, a protected species, and is listed in Schedule I of the Indian Wild life (Protection) Act, 1972. Many factors have contributed to the fall in the population of the tiger. The tiger sits at the apex of the food chain. When tiger numbers fall, a disturbance to the food chain is caused.

Paragraph on Tiger 4 (250 Words)

The tiger is a large carnivorous mammal. In the wild it lives in the deep forest. The tiger feeds on animals that also live in the forests.

The tiger can also be seen in a zoo within an enclosure. The habitat of the wild is re-created in the zoo for the tiger. The tigers in a zoo are fed and looked after. Tigers also mate and raise their cubs in a zoo. As the tiger is a critically endangered animal, captive breeding of the species helps in raising the animal’s population.

There are many different sub-species of the tiger such as the Siberian tiger, the Sumatran tiger and the royal Bengal tiger. In India it is the royal Bengal tiger that is found. The royal Bengal tiger has a beautiful orange coat with black stripes. The stripe pattern in each individual tiger is different. This helps in conducting tiger census in a forest as each tiger has a unique stripe pattern. The white tiger that is also seen in India is not a sub-species of the tiger, but is so coloured due to a particular genetic condition.

Forests are protected habitats of wild animals. They are known as national parks. Some of the dense forests where tigers are found are specially designated as tiger reserves, and are given special protection.

The tiger is India’s national animal. It is a protected wild animal, and is listed in Schedule I of the Indian Wild Life (Protection) Act that includes critically endangered wild animals.

Paragraph on Tiger 5 (300 Words)

The tiger is India’s national animal. The tiger is seen in dense forests. The tiger is a critically endangered animal in India. Its population has fallen drastically from what it was in the beginning of the last century.

The tiger needs protection

The tiger needs to be given protection. As forests are its habitats, the forests also need to be protected. Forests are, therefore, protected in India, and are known as national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Forests that are home to tigers are sometimes designated as tiger reserves to ensure greater protection of the tiger.

The tiger feeds on various species of deer such as the spotted deer, the barking deer and the nilgai. The tiger also feeds on other animals like goats, buffaloes, boar and monkeys. The tiger chases its prey, kills it, and then feeds on it. When a tigress kills its prey, it feeds on the kill along with its cubs. The cubs eventually learn to hunt for their food.

There are different sub-species of tigers

There are different sub-species of the tiger. The sub-species of the tiger found in India is called the royal Bengal tiger. The white tiger found in India is, however, not a sub-species. The royal Bengal tiger has an orange coat with black stripes. Each tiger has a unique pattern of stripes. A tiger can, therefore, be identified by its stripes. This feature of the uniqueness of a tiger’s stripes helps in conducting a census of tigers in the forests.

Several factors have contributed to the fall in tiger numbers. The poaching of tigers and the animals that they feed on, the loss of tiger habitats as also environmental degradation have been responsible for decimating the population of the tiger. As the tiger sits at the top of the food chain, a fall in its population disturbs the equilibrium in the ecosystem.

Paragraph on Tiger 6 (350 Words)

The tiger is a large carnivorous animal. It belongs to the mammalian family. It is also referred to as a big cat.

A mention of the tiger is found in Indian folklore and folk music. The tiger is an iconic symbol in India.

The habitat and food of the tiger

The tiger lives in deep forests. The animal feeds on various animals that live in the forests. Various animals such as the spotted deer, barking deer, swamp deer, black buck, buffaloes, goats, monkeys and boar are preyed on by tigers. The tiger chases its prey and kills it, and then feeds on it. When a tigress hunts for its prey, and gets its kill, her cubs too feed on it. Cubs learn to chase their prey and kill them to get their food.

When the present population of the tiger is compared to that at the beginning of the last century, we find the drastic fall in the numbers of the species.

Several causes have led to a fall in the population of the tiger

Several factors have been responsible for the fall in tiger numbers. The hunting of the tiger is one of the factors contributing to the decimation of the population of the tiger. Hunting was a sport of the royalty and the aristocratic classes. Poaching of tigers has also been carried on for trade in various parts of the tiger’s body. There has also been a reduction of other animals in the forest due to poaching, destruction of forest cover, and due to environmental destruction. This has caused a reduction in the prey base of the tiger, and this has meant a loss of food for it.

Similarly, the destruction of forests has been a loss of the tiger’s habitat. Various man-made activities have also led to ecological destruction that has affected the tiger in the wild. For instance, if a railway line passes through or near a forest it adversely affects the habitat of many wildlife species.

The tiger is a critically endangered animal

The tiger has, therefore, become a critically endangered wild animal. Since the enactment of the Indian Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, the tiger has been afforded the highest protection as it is listed in Schedule I of the Act.

Paragraph on Tiger 7 (400 Words)

The tiger is a large wild animal that lives in the forest. It belongs to the family of mammals. There are many sub-species of the tiger such as the royal Bengal tiger, the Siberian tiger, and the Sumatran tiger.

The royal Bengal tiger is found in India

The royal Bengal tiger is found in India. It is India’s national animal. The royal Bengal tiger has an orange coat with black stripes. Each tiger has a unique set of stripes, and a tiger can be identified by its stripes. The tiger is a part of many folk stories and songs in India.

The tiger is carnivorous, and preys on animals like the many species of deer, wild buffalo, goat and boar. When a tigress kills an animal, she and her cubs feed on it. Sometimes tigers turn man eaters. Such tigers attack man and kill him for their food. Efforts are made by people to locate the tiger and capture it without killing it.

The tiger is a critically endangered species

The tiger is a critically endangered mammal in India. Its population has fallen drastically since the early part of the last century. Many factors are responsible for the fall in tiger population in the wild. Poaching of the tiger and its prey, loss of habitat, and environmental destruction has resulted in making the tiger a critically endangered species.

As the tiger depends on animals like the deer for its food, when these animals are hunted, it affects the tiger’s food availability. Since the tiger sits at the apex of the food chain, when the tiger numbers fall, there is a disturbance in the food chain.

Loss of tiger habitats has threatened the species

Loss of habitat has also resulted in a fall in the population of the tiger. When forests are cleared, the tigers lose their home. They become vulnerable to be killed either by man or by such factors as vehicular movement as for instance of trains and trucks.

Increased tourism in wild areas may also result in spoiling of the natural habitats of the wild animals. For instance, the water bodies in forests may get polluted or plastic may be strewn around in the forest.

The fall in tiger numbers has deleterious consequences on ecological balance and equilibrium. The big cat should, therefore, be protected. It is protected under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, and is listed in Schedule I of the Act. Poaching of the tiger or indulging in trade of its body parts is punishable as per the Act.

Essay on Tiger

Tiger is the National Animal

India’s national animal is the tiger. As a result, tigers are regarded as sacred animals in India. Several folkloric tales include tiger stories. In Hindu mythology, tigers are frequently used as vahanas, or mounts, by Indian goddesses such as Durga. Tigers are magnificent creatures with unmatched courage. In contrast to lions, tigers are recluse animals in their natural habitat. Tigers, despite their bravery and power, prefer to stay inside their areas. A tiger’s house is known as a “lair.” As a result, the majority of tigers live in their lair and territory.

Characteristics of Tigers

The female tiger is known as a “tigress”, while her offspring is known as a “cub”. Male tigers, unlike lions, do not stay in their caves to protect themselves from attack. During the day, both tigers and tigresses hunt, and at night, they sleep. The roar of a tiger is tremendously loud and powerful. It uses its roars to communicate with the other tigers. Tigers are extremely intelligent creatures. They use a variety of hunting techniques, including hiding behind dense shrubs and making a surprise attack on their target. Deer, bullocks, antelope, and other small animals are commonly eaten by tigers. Tigers are commonly referred to as man-eaters, although they only prey on humans after they have been harmed by humans or when they are unable to find another animal to prey on.

Although this tiger essay discusses the tiger’s power, it would be incomplete without emphasizing the tigers’ kindness and generosity. Tigers are said to be kind creatures. They frequently share prey with tigers outside of their territory. A male tiger often raises cubs without the assistance of the tigress. Tigers also raise orphaned cubs that belong to other tigers.

Need for Conservation

Tigers are known to be very kind to unrelated tigers. Humans, on the other hand, have not been so nice to tigers. People abuse tigers for their valuable skin, nails, and bones. Tigers are one of the world’s most endangered species. Humans hunt them for their skin, nails, and bones, which are all valuable. Humans also catch tigers and confine them in zoos, away from their natural habitats, making the animals unhappy.

They must be allowed to live and reproduce in their original habitat, which should also be protected. In a forest ecosystem, tigers, like lions, are tertiary or third-level consumers. They eat primary (herbivores) and secondary (carnivores) consumers and help in energy transfer across the food chain. As a result, tigers must be maintained from an ecological viewpoint to maintain the ecosystem balance.

Tiger attacks are not uncommon in places of India where forests and residential areas are near together. When a tiger grows old or is unable to locate food in the wild, it frequently goes to such living areas for food and becomes a man-eater.

The famous hunter Jim Corbett, whose name is also a national park in Central India, documented such legends concerning man-eaters. During British time, Corbett was well-known for his hunting abilities, and he is still well-respected in many rural communities for taking down man-eaters. While tigers pose a threat to humans in one aspect, the bigger point here is that humans provide a greater threat to the lives of such creatures. The rate at which forests are removed for construction projects, the rise of eco-tourism, and the frequency of forest safaris, all contribute to the disruption of the natural habitat of the tiger. All these reasons cause the tiger to venture into human territory in search of food.

The behavior of tigers, their diet, and their hunting habits have all been described in this essay. It may be concluded from this tiger essay that tigers are extremely essential wildlife creatures.

Critical Analysis of Tigers Bride, paying particular attention to feminist views.

Authors Avatar

Critical Analysis of ‘Tiger’s Bride’, paying particular attention to feminist views.

In the Tiger’s Bride, Carter produces a very feminist view of men’s apparent role in human relationships. She suggests to us that men live materialistic lives, and care more about possessions and social status than their partners. Carter also portrays the world that we read about, as very saturated with femininity in the way she often describes elements of the house, or emotions, with links to menstruation, or original sin.  Finally, although Beauty is at first, in repulse of the sheer masculine power of the beast, Carter slowly titrates the tone of beauty feelings towards sympathy and love for the animalistic master.

Angela Carter expresses an opinion of men in the tiger’s bride. She implies that men care more for their social status, and their material goods, than their relationships and loved-ones. “My father’s circumstances had changed already; well-shaven, neatly barbered, smart new clothes […] The beast had clearly paid cash on the nail for his glimpse of my bosom, and paid up promptly, as if it had not been a sight I might have died showing. Then I saw my father’s trunks were packed, ready for departure. Could he so easily me here?” Here, Carter expresses how both Beauty’s father, and the Beast, care more for satisfying their desires than for the dignity and safety of Beauty, “and paid promptly, as if it had not been a sight I might have died showing”. This explains that the Beast handled the deal (if Beauty showed herself naked to him, he would return everything, including her, to her father), as if it were an impersonal business exchange, where as, if he had truly cared for Beauty, he would have know that it was a very delicate, and sensitive piece of Beauty’s innocence that she feels has shattered, and she is humiliated. “Then I saw that my father’s trunks were packed, ready for departure. Could he so easily leave me here?” We are led to believe that her father up until now has been distraught at the loss of his daughter, that he weeps and cries constantly. However, here we see that all he really missed was his material possessions’, and once he’s regained them, along with his dignity, he’s happy to leave without his only daughter. Angela Carter uses similar instances throughout the book to re-iterate this point that men are amoral, and care more for what they can see, touch and be seen with, than their emotional bond to other people.

This is a preview of the whole essay

Throughout the story Angela Carter repeatedly describes and aspect of biological/ religious, femininity. “It was not natural for humankind to go naked, not since first we hid our loins with fig leaves”. This links to the story of The Garden of Eden, in the bible, when Eve eats a fruit from the forbidden tree she has the knowledge that she is actually naked. This is the original sin, the action that persuades God to turn humans immortal. Its mention here is not only to explain the awkwardness that Beauty feels from being naked, but also that by returning to her naked form, and staying with the beast, rather than returning to her materialistic life, she is also regaining part of her immortality. However, Carter also compares Beauty’s discomfort at being naked, to having the skin flayed from her body, an incredibly strong image, which further shows the pain in which Beauty went to show the Beast her body originally. “The sables thereupon resolved themselves into a pack of black, squeaking rats that rattled immediately down the stairs”. This again associates to the natural meaning of being naked. The fact that Beauty’s clothes are comparable to dirty, unwanted, rats that flee at the first chance they get.

Throughout the last scene in the story, the tone titrates from one of disgust, pain and discomfort, to a more pleasurable, loving one. The section of story begins with descriptions from Beauty such as; “He had demanded the abominable. I felt as much atrocious pain as if I was stripping of my own underpelt”, “lacerating wind that raced along the corridors”. These repeated referrals to the removal and ripping apart of skin, create a deep, very gothic image in the reader’s mind, but as the story goes on, Carter begins to use a more positive lexis to describe the feelings of Beauty. Although what is described as a disgusting, zoo-like room, Beauty’s feelings are of lust as well as love for the masculine dominance of the beast. “I, white, shaking, raw, approaching him as if offering, in myself, the key to a peaceable kingdom in which his appetite need not be my extinction.” This shows the trust that Beauty now has in the Beast, how she feels enough belief in his love for her, to offer herself to him, and be safe in the knowledge that he will not devour her, and that they will both be able to live in a paradise. Even when Beauty exclaims that “[The Beast] will lick the skin off me!” it is not an exclamation of fright, disgust, or pain, but more like an orgasmic frisson at the utter power that the Beast has over her. The last sentence “My earrings turned back to water and trickled down my shoulders; I shrugged the drops off my beautiful fur.” Shows the change that Beauty has gone through within only this scene. Both physically and emotionally Beauty has reverted back to her natural form. She now feels beautifully, comfortable, both naked, and in the form of what she originally thought was a fearsome beast. Angela Carter uses role reversal from the basis of the fairy tale ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to put both characters within a comfortable state, where they can love each other, but in this versions, the Beauty, has learnt lessons of humility, and love from the masculine Beast.

Quality of writing

The tone here is good, and I particularly like the critical voice which is expressed. I would note that you don't need to refer to the author by their full name every time. Beginning the essay with Angela Carter in the first instance, and then using Carter from then on is fine. The essay is able to weave in ideas of the gothic well, yet sometimes these points are more akin to assertions rather than thorough analysis. I would note that the female in this short story isn't called Beauty.

Level of analysis

The analysis in this essay is good, but there could be more focus on the significance of the narrative on feminist views. I would note that there are a few instances where the quotes used are much too long. Using short quotes which are embedded in your essay will allow you to focus on specific techniques and really pick apart the language Carter is using. There needs to be more discussion around points such as "but in this versions, the Beauty, has learnt lessons of humility, and love from the masculine Beast." I would be asking myself: Why has Carter done this? Is this significant to her feminist agenda? A key aspect of Carter's short stories is the presentation of the rewards which can be gained from aspiring beyond limitation. The girl is lost by her father in the first sentence, yet Carter uses her as a first person narrator to reject society and be liberated. Discussion around this idea would've brought this essay into higher grades.

Response to question

This essay responds averagely to the prompt of exploring feminist views. Many of Angela Carter's short stories seek to express females in literature in a different light, and I liked how this essay is able to explore how this is achieved. I would've liked to have seen more discussion around what effect the short story has, as there is strong analysis around the metamorphosis and relationship with The Beast, but little explanation of why this is used. Higher level marks in A-Level are dependent on such discussions of the authorial intent.

Five Takeaways From Nikole Hannah-Jones’s Essay on the ‘Colorblindness’ Trap

How a 50-year campaign has undermined the progress of the civil rights movement.

essay of tiger in points

By Nikole Hannah-Jones

Nikole Hannah-Jones is a staff writer at the magazine and the creator of The 1619 Project. She also teaches race and journalism at Howard University.

Last June, the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action in college admissions was not constitutional. After the decision, much of the discussion was about its impact on the complexions of college campuses. But in an essay in The Times Magazine, I argue that we were missing the much bigger and more frightening story: that the death of affirmative action marks the culmination of a radical 50-year strategy to subvert the goal of colorblindness put forth by civil rights activists, by transforming it into a means of undermining racial justice efforts in a way that will threaten our multiracial democracy.

What do I mean by this? Here are the basic points of my essay:

The affirmative-action ruling could bring about sweeping changes across American society.

Conservatives are interpreting the court’s ruling broadly, and since last summer, they have used it to attack racial-justice programs outside the field of higher education. Since the decision, conservative groups have filed and threatened lawsuits against a range of programs that consider race, from diversity fellowships at law firms to maternal-health programs. One such group has even challenged the medical school of Howard University, one of the nation’s pre-eminent historically Black universities. Founded to educate people who had been enslaved, Howard’s mission has been to serve Black Americans who had for generations been systematically excluded from American higher education. These challenges to racial-justice programs will have a lasting impact on the nation’s ability to address the vast disparities that Black people experience.

Conservatives have co-opted the civil rights language of ‘colorblindness.’

In my essay, I demonstrate that these challenges to racial-justice programs often deploy the logic of “colorblindness,” the idea that the Constitution prohibits the use of race to distinguish citizens and that the goal of a diverse, democratic nation should be a society in which race does not determine outcomes for anyone. Civil rights leaders used the idea of colorblindness to challenge racial apartheid laws and policies, but over the last 50 years, conservatives have successfully co-opted both the rhetoric and the legal legacy of the civil rights era not to advance racial progress, but to stall it. And, I’d argue, reverse it.

Though the civil rights movement is celebrated and commemorated as a proud period in American history, it faced an immediate backlash. The progressive activists who advanced civil rights for Black Americans argued that in a society that used race against Black Americans for most of our history, colorblindness is a goal. They believed that achieving colorblindness requires race-conscious policies, such as affirmative action, that worked specifically to help Black people overcome their disadvantages in order to get to a point where race no longer hindered them. Conservatives, however, invoke the idea of colorblindness to make the case that race-conscious programs, even to help those whose race had been used against them for generations, are antithetical to the Constitution. In the affirmative-action decision, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority, embraced this idea of colorblindness, saying: “Eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it.”

The Supreme Court’s decision undermines attempts to eliminate racial inequality that descendants of slavery suffer.

But mandating colorblindness in this way erases the fact that Black Americans still suffer inequality in every measurable aspect of American life — from poverty to access to quality neighborhoods and schools to health outcomes to wealth — and that this inequality stems from centuries of oppressive race-specific laws and policies. This way of thinking about colorblindness has reached its legal apotheosis on the Roberts court, where through rulings on schools and voting the Supreme Court has helped constitutionalize a colorblindness that leaves racial disparities intact while striking down efforts to ameliorate them.

These past decisions have culminated in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, which can be seen as the Supreme Court clearing the way to eliminate the last legal tools to try to level the playing field for people who descend from slavery.

Affirmative action should not simply be a tool for diversity but should alleviate the particular conditions of descendants of slavery.

Part of the issue, I argue, is that the purpose of affirmative action got muddled in the 1970s. It was originally designed to reduce the suffering and improve the material conditions of people whose ancestors had been enslaved in this country. But the Supreme Court’s decision in the 1978 Bakke case changed the legally permissible goals of affirmative action, turning it into a generalized diversity program. That has opened the door for conservatives to attack the program for focusing on superficial traits like skin color, rather than addressing affirmative action's original purpose, which was to provide redress for the disadvantages descendants of slavery experienced after generations of oppression and subordination.

Working toward racial justice is not just the moral thing to do, but it is also crucial to our democracy.

When this country finally abolished slavery, it was left with a fundamental question: How does a white-majority nation, which wielded race-conscious policies and laws to enslave and oppress Black people, create a society in which race no longer matters? After the short-lived period of Reconstruction, lawmakers intent on helping those who had been enslaved become full citizens passed a slate of race-conscious laws. Even then, right at the end of slavery, the idea that this nation owed something special to those who had suffered under the singular institution of slavery faced strident opposition, and efforts at redress were killed just 12 years later with Reconstruction’s end. Instead, during the nearly 100-year period known as Jim Crow, descendants of slavery were violently subjected to a dragnet of racist laws that kept them from most opportunities and also prevented America from becoming a true democracy. During the civil rights era, when Black Americans were finally assured full legal rights of citizenship, this question once again presented itself: In order to address the disadvantage Black Americans faced, do we ignore race to eliminate its power, or do we consciously use race to undo its harms? Affirmative action and other racial-justice programs were born of that era, but now, once again, we are in a period of retrenchment and backlash that threatens the stability of our nation. My essay argues that if we are to preserve our multiracial democracy, we must find a way to address our original sin.

Clemson basketball vs Baylor prediction: Who has edge in 2024 NCAA Tournament 2nd round?

essay of tiger in points

CLEMSON —  Clemson basketball  defeated No. 11 seed New Mexico 77-56 Friday at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in program history.

After losing three of their previous four games, including a one-and-done appearance in the ACC tournament, the sixth-seeded Tigers (22-11) regained their edge to take care of the Lobos and will look to defeat No. 3 seed Baylor Sunday (6:10 p.m. ET, TNT).

"Scott Drew is an incredible coach, won the national championship and has a very talented team," Clemson coach Brad Brownell said. "So we'll have to be on the top of our game to win."

Meanwhile, Baylor (24-10) has won five of its past seven games and is coming off its 92-67 bludgeoning of No. 14 seed Colgate Friday, where it made 16 3-pointers, shooting 53.3%.

Here are three things to know and a score prediction for this second-round matchup:

FOLLOW THE MADNESS: NCAA tournament brackets, scores, schedules, teams and more.

Clemson basketball is coming off its second-largest win in its March Madness history

After their rough performance against Boston College in the conference tournament, the Tigers were motivated to impress, and they did so in their 21-point victory. Friday's win ranks behind only their round-of-32 win against Auburn in 2018, when Clemson won 84-53.

"We were ready, and I'm just happy that our guys were able to get past our last performance," Brownell said.

PJ Hall, Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin each scored in double figures, and Schieffelin recorded his 10th double double of the season. Clemson's bench added 13 points, and it held New Mexico to its lowest scoring total all season.

Can Chase Hunter continue his torrid play after season-high 21 points?

Hunter rebounded after his poor showing in the ACC tournament, where he scored two points, shot 0-for-10 from the field and had a minus-29. He scored 21 points Friday and added six assists, three rebounds and two steals, and finished plus-14.

"I wanted to make sure I impacted this game whether it was on defense, offense, making plays for my teammates," Hunter said.

The redshirt senior's production is critical for the Tigers to have a sustained run in the NCAA tournament. It will be interesting to see if he can replicate this production against Baylor.

What makes the Baylor Bears a tough opponent?

The Bears are offense-driven, having six players who average double-digit scoring — Ja'Kobe Walter, RayJ Dennis, Jalen Bridges, Yves Missi, Jayden Nunn and Langston Love. Bridges, Nunn, Walter and Dennis scored in double figures in their win against Colgate Friday.

Baylor has the second-highest scoring offense in the Big 12, averaging 80.9 points, and has the best 3-point shooting percentage in the conference with 39.4%. Dennis leads the Big 12 in average assists with 6.9.

Defensively, the Bears allow 71.1 points per game, and Missi has logged 50 blocks this season, which is third-most in the Big 12.

Clemson prediction vs Baylor: March Madness second round

Baylor 75, Clemson 71:  History is against the Tigers, who have made the Sweet 16 four times in 14 years in the NCAA tournament. Expect Baylor to continue a 3-point barrage that will be too much for Clemson to handle, thus ending its March Madness run.

March Madness 2024: Yale shocks Auburn, roaring back from 10-point deficit in first-round upset

The tigers had multiple opportunities to tie in the game's waning seconds, but couldn't convert.

yale-1.jpg

No. 13 seed Yale pulled off the biggest upset of Friday's first-round NCAA Tournament action with a 78-76 takedown of No. 4 seed Auburn . The Bulldogs were 11.5-point underdogs entering the game, trailed by as many as 10 points with 7:16 to go and faced a six-point deficit with 4:07 to go before finishing on a 14-6 run to advance to the second round for the second time in school history.

John Poulakidas led the charge to the finish line with 28 points, 16 of which came in the second half. He hit three big 3s in the final 20 minutes and finished 6 of 9 from distance on the game. Danny Wolf and August Mahoney added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Yale took the lead with 2:12 remaining in the second half off a Poulakidas 3-pointer and didn't relinquish it from there. Auburn had several looks at a game-tying or game-winning field goal in the closing seconds but failed to convert.

The win marked the Bulldogs' second-ever NCAA Tournament victory and first since upsetting Baylor in 2016. They'll be seeking their first-ever Sweet 16 appearance when they meet No. 5 seed  San Diego State  on Sunday.

"I don't know if that's the best win in Yale basketball history," Bulldogs coach James Jones said. "But I will tell you that is the best basketball team we've beat in Yale basketball history as far as I'm concerned."

Yale earned the No. 2 seed in the Ivy League Tournament and benefited from chaos when No. 1 seed Princeton was upset by No. 4 seed Brown in the semifinals. The Bulldogs defeated No. 3 seed Cornell in the semis and stunned Brown with a go-ahead basket at the buzzer , 62-61.

Essay on Tiger | Tiger Essay for Students and Children in English

Essay on Tiger: The tiger is a majestic animal that dawns on the forests of the world. The tiger is found in many locations across India and is often threatened by the presence of poachers who hunt them down. The reason for killing tigers lies in human greed and belief. The Chinese often make medicines out of the nails and other portions. The skin is sold off at enormous prices. Despite its might and strength, this makes the tiger be one of the most vulnerable creatures of the forest. There are, however, laws related to the caring and protection of such species in India and across the world.

Here we have written a long and a short sample essay for the benefit of students who are to appear in their examinations and might come across this topic.

Here we have provided paragraph on tiger which includes both long and short essays that can serve the purpose of a lot of students in light of their examinations.

You can read more  Essay Writing  about articles, events, people, sports, technology many more.

Long and Short Essays on Tiger for Students and Kids in English

We have written over here two sample essays on tiger which includes a long essay of 500 words, short essay of 100-150 words and ten important points that highlight the subject matter of the essay.

Long Essay on Tiger in English 500 words

Tiger essay can be used for students of classes 7, 8, 9, 10 for their exams and assessments.

The tiger is an exceptionally beautiful creature that is full of might and vigor. It is found in India mainly in the northern and central parts. This includes the jungles of Rajasthan, such as Sariska national park. In central India, tigers are found in the national parks of Kanha and Bandhavgarh. They can also be located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Neora Valley in West Bengal as well as other designated places that have been provided with a robust architecture of security. West Bengal in the Eastern part of India has a considerable number of tigers in the Gangetic delta region of the Sunderbans. The Sundarbans are an exquisite piece of mangrove forests that are separated by a river running between them. The nature of the landscape over there is such that the forests extend into Bangladesh.

You can find more on essays Animal Essay Writing

These forests are home to a variety of flora and fauna, which includes the Royal Bengal Tiger. However, as much as terrific, it sounds, for those who live in the Sunderbans, life is a daunting experience. And they owe it solely to the tiger. Reports of tiger attacks are not uncommon in parts of India where forests and living spaces are in close conjunction. When it gets old or when it fails to find any food material to the woods, a tiger often resorts to such living areas for food and turns into a man-eater.

Such tales about man-eaters have been documented by the famous hunter Jim Corbett, whose name is another national park in Central India. Corbett was known for his hunting skills during the British period and is often respected among many village communities today for taking down man-eaters. While tigers risk mankind in one way, the larger argument here is that mankind risks the living of such creatures in a more substantial way. The rate at which forests are cleared for development projects, the spread of eco-tourism, and the frequency of forest safaris tend to disturb the natural habitat of the tiger. This causes it to venture into a human territory for food.

A decade ago, the total estimate of the number of living tigers in the whole world was abysmally low due to weak regulation, lack of protection, and the advent of poaching. However, the coming up of environmental concerns and the need to maintain the balance of the food chain efforts have been made to increase the number of tigers in the entire world systematically. This has been possible due to increased environmental regulation and environmental activism on various animal rights groups. Also, there has been a significant increase in the quantum of punishment across countries on poaching charges.

The sale of animal byproducts like skins hides and nails has also been enacted to be wholly illegal, and anyone caught in the act thus commits a punishable offense. The most exciting feature about tigers is their ability to swim, especially the Royal Bengal Tiger. It has a unique way of understanding the flow of the water and current in the tides before it jumps into the water for a swim. This goes to show that the tiger is not just beautiful and majestic but creative and intelligent too.

Long Essay on Tiger

Short Essay on Tiger in English 250 words

Tiger essay can be used by students of classes 1, 2, 3, 4,  5, 6 for their respective exams.

The tiger is one of the animals children look forward to when they are visiting the zoo. Children are often attracted to the tiger as an animal because of the stories they hear about it. These stories are often about hunters like famous kings and princes who used to hunt down tigers as a favorite pastime. Often they used to keep the heads and skins of such tigers as trophies, which are well preserved as of today.

Tiger is a unique and majestic creature. They often become victims of poaching and other illegal activities that have often threatened their existence. Nevertheless, with missions like Project Tiger, it has been possible to increase awareness among people and ensure an increase in the number of tigers through several different approaches, including stricter laws and the creation of national parks. National parks, especially the core areas, are the best place to spot tigers during summer. we will soonly update Jan Dhan Yojana essay in hindi, Sanskrit, English, Tamil, Marathi and Gujarati.

Clemson basketball routs New Mexico in March Madness, advances to NCAA Tournament second round

essay of tiger in points

Clemson basketball returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021 and demolished No. 11 seed New Mexico 77-56 Friday at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, to advance to the round of 32.

The sixth-seeded Tigers (22-11) responded after their 21-point loss to Boston College in the ACC Tournament in their last outing to take care of the Lobos (26-10), whom entered on a four-game win streak.

Clemson will face No. 3 Baylor (24-10) in the round of 32 on Sunday.

Entering this matchup, No. 11 seeds were 3-0 in the tournament, and Clemson ended that streak with one of its finest performances of the season. It built a 32-13 in the first half behind PJ Hall's stellar offense and remained in control throughout the game despite many New Mexico runs.

Chase Hunter led all scorers with 21 points and Hall added 14 points.

FOLLOW THE MADNESS: NCAA basketball bracket, scores, schedules, teams and more.

Here are two takeaways from Clemson's first round of 64 win since 2018 and what lies ahead for the Tigers.

Clemson basketball responds after ACC Tournament loss

Clemson coach Brad Brownell described the way the team lost to Boston College as an “oddity,” and Clemson displayed why with an impressive showing Friday.

Hall showed why he is an all-conference player, knocking down 3-pointers and working in the post against Lobos defenders, and Joseph Girard III helped facilitate the offense and was his usual 3-point making self, scoring two 3-pointers with three assists.

However, unlike Clemson’s loss to the Eagles, other players chipped in to complement Hall and Girard. Hunter responded after his worst shooting outing of the season, and Ian Schieffelin and Jack Clark added inside, free throw and 3-point scoring to handle the Lobos. The Tigers also got a boost from their bench with 13 points.

Tigers limit New Mexico’s Jaelen House and Jamal Mashburn Jr.

Both players lead the Lobos in scoring with House averaging 16.1 points and Mashburn logging 14.4 points per game. Yet, neither could get into rhythm against the Tigers. Clemson contained both with their defensive length, forcing contesting shots that hindered New Mexico.

After combining for 49 points in the Mountain West tournament championship, House and Mashburn combined for 18 Friday.

NCAA March Madness: Grambling State Tigers Erase 14-Point Deficit To Defeat Montana State Bobcats In An Epic Overtime Classic

T he new "Kings of the SWAC," No. 16 Grambling State, erased a 14-point second-half deficit to rally and defeat No. 16 Montana State, 88-81, in overtime. Donte Jackson's team made an 18-6 run at 13:49 in the second period during the comeback.

The game had ten lead changes, as the G-Men extended their biggest lead by eight points with 22.5 seconds remaining. After the Tigers win the First Four matchup with the Bobcats, they will meet No. 1 Purdue in Indianapolis.

Guard Jimel Cofer had a career night, scoring 19 points and grabbing rebounds during the victory. His dazzling performance must be put in perspective, as Cofer averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in the 2023-24 season.

"I just know my team has my back," Cofer said. "Anybody on this team can get hot at any time. It was just my night." At one point, he had a six-point streak in the second half. Also, the 6-4 Sophomore did not play in the G-Men's win over Texas Southern to claim the SWAC Tournament title. Jourdan Smith and Antwan Burnett added 19 points each while hitting big free throws in the extra period.
