Essay on Goat

Goats are one of the most common types of farm animals. They are domesticated widely. They live in a wide range of environments and have always been the most reliable source of income for poor people. Goats are an important source of extra income and work for many farmers and landless workers in rural India. Small ruminant farming ensures that you can work for yourself and provides a buffer in times of trouble like drought and famine.

Goats are ungulates or small animals. The size of adult goats range from 65 to 105 cm (2 to 3.5 feet) at the shoulder and weigh between 18 and 150 kg depending on the species (40 to 330 lbs). Their bodies are coated in dense hair that keeps them warm in the winter.

Both male and female goats have horns, with the male having a larger horn. The horns are curved or spiral in shape and can reach a length of 165 cm (5.4 feet). Male and female goats both use their horns to fight among themselves and to ward off predators (Nowak 1983).

Goats typically dwell in groups of 5 to 100 or more animals. Adult goats may live alone at times. The groups tend to move around a lot, which aids them in finding food in their scarce habitats.

Goats, like other bovids, have a digestive mechanism that allows them to live on abrasive, low-quality plant material like leaves and grasses. Goats may consume a wide range of foods.

Goats are regarded to be smarter than most other hoofed animals, with a natural curiosity. They will occasionally climb up into trees to nibble on the leaves (Nowak 1983; Voelker 1986).

A male goat is known as a buck or billy, and a female is known as a doe or nanny. T The young ones of goats are called kids.

Depending on the species, goats give birth to one or two kids after a gestation period of 150 to 180 days. Newborn goats, like the young of most other bovids, can stand and follow their moms practically immediately after birth. Goat milk is very rich, and young goats grow quickly. Mother goats are fiercely protective of their young ones and will fight to protect them (Nowak 1983).

Goat meat is higher in nutritional content and has more health advantages than other red meats. Goat meat, which is lower in calories, total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol than traditional meats, has higher iron levels when compared to a similar serving size of beef, hog, lamb, and chicken. In comparison, goat meat has a higher potassium level and a lower salt concentration.

Goat milk is easily digestible due to the smaller size of the fat globules and serves as a simple source of family nutrition. Goat milk is advised for children, the elderly, and the sick since it is easily digestible and may have medicinal properties.

Today, goatskin is still used to produce gloves, boots, and other items that require a soft hide. Kid gloves, which were popular in Victorian times, are still manufactured today. The Black Bengal breed, which is indigenous to Bangladesh, produces high-quality skin.

Cashmere goats produce one of the best fibres in the world, “Cashmere wool.” Cashmere fibre is extremely delicate and silky, growing beneath the guard hairs. Kashmir is known for pashmina (Persian pashmina, meaning fine wool) in South Asia, and these goats are known as pashmina goats (frequently confused for sheep). Because these goats are native to upper Kashmir and Laddakh, their wool became known as cashmere in the West. Kashmiri pashmina shawls are well-known for their exquisite needlework.

Goats have distinct social, economic, and biological benefits. They can be maintained on a small scale and can withstand a wide range of agro-climatic conditions. Goat meat (chevon) is one of the most popular types of meat among customers in numerous nations, including India. In India, both demand and production of goat meat have steadily increased over the last decade, and despite the rising production trend, the country will need to treble the number of goats to meet the predicted demand for goat meat from the growing human population in the next decades.

India has the highest goat population. The demand for meat, milk and fibre is gradually increasing and is predicted to climb more in the future due to significant increases in per capita income and people’s health consciousness. Consumers throughout the world desire products that are “clean, green, and ethical.” As a result, goat farmers are transitioning to animal husbandry approaches that do not jeopardise animal welfare. The medicinal characteristics of goat milk have boosted societal interest in employing it as a therapeutic health food neutraceutical; also, biotechnologists are focused on designer milk for human health.

Goats: Facts and Figures

There are male and female goats. A buck is a male goat, and a doe is a female. Young ones are called “kids.” But did you know that when a goat gives birth, it is called “kidding”?

Goats are social animals who become sad when they are separated from their friends. However, unlike sheep, goats are not flock-oriented.

A lot of people think goats are dirty. They are one of the cleanest animals, and they pick their food a lot more carefully than other animals, such as cows, sheep and even dogs.

Goats are very smart and curious animals. Their inquisitive nature is shown by their constant desire to explore and investigate anything that is new or different.

They communicate by bleating to one another. Mothers would frequently call to their children to ensure that they remain nearby. Soon after giving birth, mother and child goats recognise one other’s sounds.

Goats may be taught to respond to their names and to come when called.

They are extremely finicky eaters. They have extremely sensitive lips, which they utilise to “mouth” things to find clean and appetising food. They frequently refuse to eat hay that has been stepped on or that has been laying around loose for a day.

The sneeze sound is used as an alert by goats. They sneeze to warn one other of impending danger, whether real or imagined.

Goats do not like water. They would rather jump over puddles and streams than step in them.

Goats were one of the first animals tamed by humans and herded 9,000 years ago.

Goat meat is the most consumed meat per capita on the planet.

A goat’s life span is comparable to that of a dog.

Goats have a five-month gestation period (pregnancy), and the average birth rate is 2.2 children per year.

Within minutes of birth, baby goats (kids) are standing and taking their first steps.

Each child has a distinct call, and together with its fragrance, it is recognised by its mother from birth — not by sight.

Goats are very picky eaters, which is not what people think. They have very sensitive lips that they use to “mouth” things to find clean and tasty food. They do not like to eat hay that has been stepped on or that has been loose for a day.

As a group, goats are very happy. They will be sad if they are left alone. It is bad for a goat if a family only has one as a pet.

Goats, being mountain animals, are excellent climbers; they have been known to scale the tops of trees and even dams!

The kids of goats, like those of many other hooved mammals, are rectangular. This allows them to see 320 to 340 degrees (as opposed to humans’ 160-210) around them without moving, and they are known to have superb night vision.

Goats forage rather than graze. Grazing a goat on grass is essentially unnatural and increases the likelihood of them catching up  dangerous parasites. In their natural habitat, they roam mountaintops, reaching as high as they can to seek out tasty morsels of food.

There are four “stomachs” in goats. Their meal enters the rumen first (and is regularly regurgitated for more “cud-chewing”), then the reticulum, then the omasum, and finally the abomasum (which is most like a more sensitive human stomach).

The goats are burpers .This is because the rumen does this job. There are about four or five litres of plant material in a mature goat’s rumen. Cellulose is broken down there, and it also serves as a fermentation tank. There is no doubt that fermenting food makes gas. This gas comes out in the form of loud, healthy burps. Our goats often burp in the barn.

Two silly goats story in english.

Kids love short stories in which animals are always up to something! This goat story in English is one such interesting fable that also teaches an important life lesson to the kids. The story is about two silly goats who get into an argument and have an expected end.

So, let’s read together to find out why the goats get into a fight and what happens to them in the end!

The Two Goats

Once upon a time, there were two goats who lived in a dense jungle. They were both equally and often got into arguments with each other. The two goats didn’t like each other. A river passed by the forest on which a narrow bridge was built to allow the animals to cross it. The bridge was narrow enough to allow only one animal to cross at a time.

One day, one of the silly goats was crossing the bridge when he saw the other goat in the opposite direction who was also trying to cross the bridge. Since the bridge was so narrow, it was impossible for the two goats to pass at the same time.

Goats standing at the edge of the bridge.

Goats standing at the edge of the bridge.

Both the goats stood at the edges of the bridge, waiting for the other to go back. Suddenly the first goat said, “I want to go first. Allow me to pass." The other goat replied, “No. You move aside. I have come a long way, so I shall pass first.” They continued arguing for a while and neither of them was willing to move.

The Consequence

Tired of waiting, the two goats started crossing the bridge from their ends at the same time. Soon, they reached the middle of the bridge over the river. The goats again started arguing about who would cross first. In no time, the argument turned into pushes and blows where one goat struck the other with its horns.

The fight turned furious, and since the bridge was too narrow, the two goats lost their balance amidst the fight and simultaneously fell into the river below. The river carried them away with its swift current. Both the silly goats drowned and died.

A Horse and Two Goats Summary

A Horse and Two Goats Summary in English

The story focuses on a villager “Muni” who once owned a herd of forty sheep and goats. However, he has only two goats now. Muni takes his breakfast and then shakes down his drum sticks from the tree in front of his residence. Then he expresses his wish for a drumstick sauce. However, his wife asks him to bring groceries for the house. Muni makes efforts to arrange for the groceries from the village shop on credit but fails. Furthermore, he gets humiliation from his wife for his failure. Then, he takes his goats and moves to a place in the outskirts of the village beside the highway for grazing his goats.

Then, Muni sits under the horse statue made of clay to protect himself from the sun.  He watches the trucks. Furthermore, he sees a yellow station wagon coming towards him. A red-faced American gets out of the wagon and enquires about the nearest gas station . Muni thought him to be a policeman or a soldier who had come to enquire about the crime that took place in the nearby village. This misconception took place due to his Khaki dress. However, on finding the American friendly through his gestures, he tells him his story.

Both of them tell each other their story. Muni tells how his cattle were taken off by cheetahs and jackals. Due to miscommunication, Muni took the dealing for his goats. He always dreamt of selling his goats and start a shop with the money. So he was happy. Moreover, the American was happy to buy the horse.

Muni tells his wife about the dealing. She could not believe his words and accused him of theft. Her suspicion gets stronger when the two goats return home just after that.

A 200 Word-Essay And $150 Could Win You An Entire Goat Farm

If ditching your cubicle to milk goats in Alabama is your pipe dream, get writing.

Julie Kliegman

BuzzFeed Staff

Leslie and Paul Spell own Humble Heart Farms in Elkmont, Alabama. For $150 and a heartfelt 200-word essay, their 20 acres could be yours.

goat essay in english 150 words

The couple, who started the farm 10 years ago, decided to have an essay contest to choose their successor(s), who will have to tend to 60 goats, milk and package cheese, and have the option of growing the business how they choose.

goat essay in english 150 words

The contest runs through Oct. 1. The Spells hope to get at least 2,500 entries, which would pay off the farm's mortgage, leave them with enough money to move, and start the new owner off with $20,000 in operating cash.

If they don't meet their goal, they'll return all the fees to applicants.

Trying to sell their business the traditional way didn't work for the Spells. Investors who didn't seem to care about farming were the only ones who could afford to buy it.

goat essay in english 150 words

"There's no personality with it," Leslie Spell told BuzzFeed News. "They're just looking for businesses they can grow bigger."

After reading about an essay contest to take ownership of a Maine inn , the Spells wondered if running a similar contest could ensure they'd leave the farm in the hands of people passionate about the work.

Leslie and Paul Spell, 55 and 64, respectively, along with their 14-year-old son Isaac, plan to stay in Alabama. They're selling the property so they can spend some time helping missionary friends in Costa Rica start a goat farm of their own.

Humble Heart Farms sells about 600 containers of goat cheese per week in different flavors, both at farmers' markets and to local restaurants.

goat essay in english 150 words

And for whoever takes over, having farming or cheese-making experience is not required.

goat essay in english 150 words

"Maybe you're an organization that wants to help kids or teens that need something to do," Leslie Spell said. "You could even look at special-needs adults. They could do a lot of this."

The farm is about an hour and a half from Nashville and Birmingham, and about two hours from Chattanooga, which to Spell represents local opportunities for selling she and her husband haven't fully pursued.

"We’re not selling this because we’ve tapped out of what’s possible," Leslie Spell said. "We’re not young kids anymore. I would love to see some energy come in and just take this and see what they can do."

Climate change has been one of the most significant long-term consequences of this. What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels . The greenhouse gases consist of methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon dioxide, water vapour, and chlorofluorocarbons. The weather prediction has been becoming more complex with every passing year, with seasons more indistinguishable, and the general temperatures hotter. The number of hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, floods, etc., has risen steadily since the onset of the 21st century. The supervillain behind all these changes is Global Warming. The name is quite self-explanatory; it means the rise in the temperature of the Earth.

According to recent studies, many scientists believe the following are the primary four causes of global warming:

  • Deforestation
  • Greenhouse emissions
  • Carbon emissions per capita

Extreme global warming is causing natural disasters , which can be seen all around us. One of the causes of global warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases that become trapped on the earth’s surface, causing the temperature to rise. Similarly, volcanoes contribute to global warming by spewing excessive CO2 into the atmosphere.

The increase in population is one of the major causes of Global Warming. This increase in population also leads to increased air pollution . Automobiles emit a lot of CO2, which remains in the atmosphere. This increase in population is also causing deforestation, which contributes to global warming.

The earth’s surface emits energy into the atmosphere in the form of heat, keeping the balance with the incoming energy. Global warming depletes the ozone layer, bringing about the end of the world. There is a clear indication that increased global warming will result in the extinction of all life on Earth’s surface.

Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates emit more carbon than the average citizen. Nonetheless, activism and community effort are the only viable ways to slow the worsening effects of global warming. Furthermore, at the state or government level, world leaders must develop concrete plans and step-by-step programmes to ensure that no further harm is done to the environment in general.

Although we are almost too late to slow the rate of global warming, finding the right solution is critical. Everyone, from individuals to governments, must work together to find a solution to Global Warming. Some of the factors to consider are pollution control, population growth, and the use of natural resources.

One very important contribution you can make is to reduce your use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of global warming, and recycling it takes years. Another factor to consider is deforestation, which will aid in the control of global warming. More tree planting should be encouraged to green the environment. Certain rules should also govern industrialization. Building industries in green zones that affect plants and species should be prohibited.

Global warming is a real problem that many people want to disprove to gain political advantage. However, as global citizens, we must ensure that only the truth is presented in the media.

This decade has seen a significant impact from global warming. The two most common phenomena observed are glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage. Glaciers are rapidly melting. These are clear manifestations of climate change.

Another significant effect of global warming is the rise in sea level. Flooding is occurring in low-lying areas as a result of sea-level rise. Many countries have experienced extreme weather conditions. Every year, we have unusually heavy rain, extreme heat and cold, wildfires, and other natural disasters.

Similarly, as global warming continues, marine life is being severely impacted. This is causing the extinction of marine species as well as other problems. Furthermore, changes are expected in coral reefs, which will face extinction in the coming years. These effects will intensify in the coming years, effectively halting species expansion. Furthermore, humans will eventually feel the negative effects of Global Warming.

Sample Essays on Global Warming

Here are some sample essays on Global Warming:

Global Warming is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide levels in the earth’s atmosphere and is a result of human activities that have been causing harm to our environment for the past few centuries now. Global Warming is something that can’t be ignored and steps have to be taken to tackle the situation globally. The average temperature is constantly rising by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the last few years. The best method to prevent future damage to the earth, cutting down more forests should be banned and Afforestation should be encouraged. Start by planting trees near your homes and offices, participate in events, and teach the importance of planting trees. It is impossible to undo the damage but it is possible to stop further harm.

Over a long period, it is observed that the temperature of the earth is increasing. This affected wildlife , animals, humans, and every living organism on earth. Glaciers have been melting, and many countries have started water shortages, flooding, and erosion and all this is because of global warming. No one can be blamed for global warming except for humans. Human activities such as gases released from power plants, transportation, and deforestation have increased gases such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere. The main question is how can we control the current situation and build a better world for future generations. It starts with little steps by every individual. Start using cloth bags made from sustainable materials for all shopping purposes, instead of using high-watt lights use energy-efficient bulbs, switch off the electricity, don’t waste water, abolish deforestation and encourage planting more trees. Shift the use of energy from petroleum or other fossil fuels to wind and solar energy. Instead of throwing out the old clothes donate them to someone so that it is recycled. Donate old books, don’t waste paper.  Above all, spread awareness about global warming. Every little thing a person does towards saving the earth will contribute in big or small amounts. We must learn that 1% effort is better than no effort. Pledge to take care of Mother Nature and speak up about global warming.

Global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening! A person denying it or unaware of it is in the most simple terms complicit. Do we have another planet to live on? Unfortunately, we have been bestowed with this one planet only that can sustain life yet over the years we have turned a blind eye to the plight it is in. Global warming is not an abstract concept but a global phenomenon occurring ever so slowly even at this moment.

Global Warming is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute resulting in a gradual increase in the Earth’s overall climate. Brought about by greenhouse gases that trap the solar radiation in the atmosphere, global warming can change the entire map of the earth, displacing areas, flooding many countries, and destroying multiple lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct consequence of global warming but it is not an exhaustive consequence. There are virtually limitless effects of global warming which are all harmful to life on earth.

The sea level is increasing by 0.12 inches per year worldwide. This is happening because of the melting of polar ice caps because of global warming. This has increased the frequency of floods in many lowland areas and has caused damage to coral reefs. The Arctic is one of the worst-hit areas affected by global warming. Air quality has been adversely affected and the acidity of the seawater has also increased causing severe damage to marine life forms. Severe natural disasters are brought about by global warming which has had dire effects on life and property.

As long as mankind produces greenhouse gases, global warming will continue to accelerate. The consequences are felt at a much smaller scale which will increase to become drastic shortly. The power to save the day lies in the hands of humans, the need is to seize the day. Energy consumption should be reduced on an individual basis. Fuel-efficient cars and other electronics should be encouraged to reduce the wastage of energy sources. This will also improve air quality and reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is an evil that can only be defeated when fought together.

It is better late than never. If we all take steps today, we will have a much brighter future tomorrow. Global warming is the bane of our existence and various policies have come up worldwide to fight it but that is not enough. The actual difference is made when we work at an individual level to fight it. Understanding its import now is crucial before it becomes an irrevocable mistake. Exterminating global warming is of utmost importance and each one of us is as responsible for it as the next.

Always hear about global warming everywhere, but do we know what it is? The evil of the worst form, global warming is a phenomenon that can affect life more fatally. Global warming refers to the increase in the earth’s temperature as a result of various human activities. The planet is gradually getting hotter and threatening the existence of lifeforms on it. Despite being relentlessly studied and researched, global warming for the majority of the population remains an abstract concept of science. It is this concept that over the years has culminated in making global warming a stark reality and not a concept covered in books.

Global warming is not caused by one sole reason that can be curbed. There are multifarious factors that cause global warming most of which are a part of an individual’s daily existence. Burning of fuels for cooking, in vehicles, and for other conventional uses, a large amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, and methane amongst many others is produced which accelerates global warming. Rampant deforestation also results in global warming as lesser green cover results in an increased presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas.

Finding a solution to global warming is of immediate importance. Global warming is a phenomenon that has to be fought unitedly. Planting more trees can be the first step that can be taken toward warding off the severe consequences of global warming. Increasing the green cover will result in regulating the carbon cycle. There should be a shift from using nonrenewable energy to renewable energy such as wind or solar energy which causes less pollution and thereby hinder the acceleration of global warming. Reducing energy needs at an individual level and not wasting energy in any form is the most important step to be taken against global warming.

The warning bells are tolling to awaken us from the deep slumber of complacency we have slipped into. Humans can fight against nature and it is high time we acknowledged that. With all our scientific progress and technological inventions, fighting off the negative effects of global warming is implausible. We have to remember that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our future generations and the responsibility lies on our shoulders to bequeath them a healthy planet for life to exist.

One good action in a day is to combat the heat.

Global Warming and Climate Change are two sides of the same coin. Both are interrelated with each other and are two issues of major concern worldwide. Greenhouse gases released such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere cause Global Warming which leads to climate change. Black holes have started to form in the ozone layer that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays. Human activities have created climate change and global warming. Industrial waste and fumes are the major contributors to global warming. Another factor affecting is the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and also one of the reasons for climate change.  Global warming has resulted in shrinking mountain glaciers in Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic and causing climate change. Switching from the use of fossil fuels to energy sources like wind and solar. When buying any electronic appliance buy the best quality with energy savings stars. Don’t waste water and encourage rainwater harvesting in your community.

150 words paragraph #5

Unity means living and working together. At first, the man was alone in this world. But he found it impossible to live alone. Then the idea of unity came to him because unity is strength. Unity gives us strength. “United we stand, divided we fall.” Unity is needed in a family. A family breaks down for want of unity among the members. A united joint family is the source of happiness. Unity 1s needed for the welfare of society. A man alone in society is weak. Even a strong man cannot protect himself. United effort can give us social security. Unity is very important in our national life. History gives us many examples of the value of unity. We lost our independence for want of unity. We had to divide our country because we were not united. Even at this moment, we are not conscious of the importance of national unity.

150 words paragraph #6

A good and true friend should possess some qualities. It is said that a friend in need, is a friend indeed. But we should not seek a friend only when we feel the need. A true friend not only helps us in need but also corrects our faults and shows us the right path. He always stands by us in our difficulties. A friendless man is an object of pity. But true friendship is rare. An open foe is better than a false friend. A true friend is a blessing, a false friend is a curse. A false friend may lead us to the way to hell. So, we should be careful in selecting friends.

So, it is our duty to obey them. We should obey our teachers to learn. Our teachers are no less important than our parents. We cannot learn anything if we do not obey our teachers. Everybody wants to live in peace in society. So, we should obey the laws of the country, Laws teach us how to live and behave in society. We should be obedient to our superiors. It is the key to success. Obedience in the army is a must. The absence of obedience in the army cannot be imagined.

150 words paragraph #8

A memorable day or an unforgettable experience.

Human life is a mixture of weal and woe, smiles and tears. However, once what had seemed to be a memorable day turned out to be the saddest day of my life. We had planned for a picnic with all our classmates after the examination on the bank of the river Ganga. We started early in the morning and reached at 10 am. After the cooking was completed, we wished to take a bath in the Ganga. Our class teacher warned that only those who knew swimming would be allowed to bathe in the river. Rajesh, our youngest classmate, did not know how to swim. But he came unnoticed and tried to imitate us in the river. And what was feared happened? Rajesh drowned. After a long search, we recovered the body. The sight made us dumb and tears trickled down our cheeks. The horrible sight still haunts me whenever I am alone.

150 words paragraph #9

Papermaking.

Everybody knows that paper is made out of trees. But when one looks at trees, one cannot imagine something as soft and fragile as paper is made out of something that is so hard and strong. Plant matter such as wood is made of fibres known as cellulose. It is the primary ingredient in papermaking. Raw wood is first converted into a pulp consisting of a mixture of cellulose, lignin, water, and some chemicals. The pulp can be made mechanically through grinders or through a chemical process. The short fibres are created through mechanical grinding. The paper thus created is weak and is used for making newspapers, magazines, and phonebooks. Through the chemical pulping process, stronger varieties of paper are made. The cellulose pulp is sprayed on moving conveyor screens to make mats. These mats are then dried, coloured, and cut according to the requirement.

150 words paragraph #10

Power of positive thinking.

Positive thinking is an attitude or mindset characterized by optimism and happiness. A positive person hopes for the best and anticipates success in his life. Although many may scoff at the idea of always being positive, it has a plethora of benefits not only for the mind but also for the body. Positivity imparts happiness to the soul and makes one lighter. This causes us to exude goodwill and joy. People are drawn towards such individuals. Being negative in one‟swords and actions causes the exact opposite reaction. It is a known fact that people try to avoid people who relay negativity. They do not want to be around someone who brings down the energy of the room. Positive feedback to yourself can improve your health and increase your chances of success in life. It is advisable that one refrains from using harsh words in their thoughts or words.
